Speaker 1 (00:00):
Toby and chili mornings on demand on 97.1 wash fm.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Good morning dc it's 97.1 wash fm toby and chili
on a tuesday morning apparently uh the weather did not
get the memo that it's september we are uh like
in fall back to schools already happened and the temperatures
are going to be ridiculous today I know.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Just like yesterday, today, tomorrow, through Thursday, heat index and
the triple digits. Lord, Lord, Lord.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
It's so bad when a school district puts out an
email to say, hey, guess what? We might have air
conditioning problems. That tells you that something serious is going
on with this weather. But enough about that. You know
why I'm feeling really good this morning?

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Why is that?

Speaker 2 (00:46):
I'm feeling good because I brought in some new zero
sugar creamer.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
What flavor did you bring?

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Chocolate caramel.

Speaker 4 (00:53):
Really?

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Because, you know, I've been very predictable with what we.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
We usually either bring in the sweet, you know, Italian
sweet cream or vanilla. And sometimes the caramel macchiato.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
The caramel macchiato is back. This one is brand new.
And then I brought in something with pumpkin spice just
in case.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Oh, come on.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
I mean, I did it more or less for the
ha ha ha ha. And to do an unscientific experiment
to see how long it sits there.

Speaker 5 (01:19):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Because I think people have jumped the shark when it
comes to the pumpkin spice.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
So you think the sales team will or will not
drink these pumpkin spice creamer?

Speaker 2 (01:28):
I do not know, but you know I did not
put my name on these things. So, you know, it's
a wide open and general population for now.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Oh my gosh, that's funny.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
But we'll see because I'm going to take a sip
of this chocolate right now. Chocolate caramel. Oh, it's so.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
I'll have to try it later on.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Yes, chili. Oh, I was looking forward to this for days. Oh,
good for you.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
I look forward to it as well.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Good for us. Go and enjoy some. So why are
you feeling good this morning?

Speaker 3 (01:55):
I'll just piggyback on that. I'm looking forward to my
next cup of coffee with the new creamer.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
That's exactly right. So you're waking up this morning in
Ashburn or maybe D.C., Riverdale. Why are you feeling good
this morning? Hit us up and tell us this early
morning what it is that's bringing you some joy. It's contagious.
866-927-4361 is the number. Top Stories, top of the hour
on the way. Chili, what's going on?

Speaker 3 (02:19):
New research shows that sleeping in on the weekends might
not be so bad after all. I've got all the
details in just a few.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
Top Stories, top of the hour.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
The Supreme Court cleared the way for the White House
ballroom construction to keep going, ruling that a preservation group
likely lacked standing to sue.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
A D.C.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Police officer is dying after being shot inside the 2nd
District station. This happened early yesterday morning with police saying
that nobody else appears to have been involved and it's
unclear what led.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
To that shooting.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Washington Manassas Airport has cleared a major hurdle toward commercial
service receiving the FAA's Part 139 operating certificate yesterday. Leaders
say now they're close to signing an airline agreement with
the first flights hoped for by November of 2027. Fairfax
County has rolled out four new self-service kiosks for paying

(03:20):
car taxes in Fairfax, Alexandria, Reston, and Annandale. The machines
take cash, checks, and credit cards and let you check
your balance or print a receipt. Car taxes, by the way,
are due October 5th. Virginia voters in 47 localities are
going to be deciding in November whether to add a 1%
sales tax to fund school construction. In Northern Virginia, the

(03:44):
revenue could also support transportation projects. International soccer star Lionel
Messi retiring from the Argentina national team. He made the
announcement about his decision on Instagram yesterday. And it turns
out that weekend sleeping in may not be so bad
for you after all. New research finds that in moderation,

(04:08):
catching up on sleep on Saturday and Sunday is actually
linked to lower blood pressure risk. And the sweet spot
is about 90 minutes of extra sleep. Forecast today, partly
cloudy skies, highs around 95, but the heat index is
going to feel over 100. Right now, 75 in Alexandria.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Information briefing done for this Tuesday morning. We call it
Top Stories at the top of the hour. The news
you really need to start your day with 97.1. Watch FM,
tell me you're chilling in the morning. And next, your
morning mindset. Some words this morning that I think will
inspire all of us about the struggles that we go through.

(04:49):
Tuesday morning, 97.1 Wash FM. Thank you for listening to
us in Okiesville as you get those lunches squared away
for the little ones who have to go grab a
bus soon, or maybe you're doing the drive-through line shuffle
this morning. Thinking about you as you go and maybe
this morning these words will really help you.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
It's called our morning mindset we find and then share
a quote with you to think about as you take
on the rest of your day.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
From Frederick Douglass this morning who reminds all of us
and this could be very appropriate for right now this morning.
If there's no struggle, there's no progress. If there's no struggle,
there is no progress. That's Frederick Douglass. Now, what does
that mean to us today? Well, it means that the
thing that feels really hard, harder than maybe we thought

(05:37):
it would feel, yeah, don't let that be a sign
for you to stop doing what you're doing. When you're
learning and you're changing and you're getting better and you're
standing up for things that are important to you, you're
going to meet resistance, right? Struggle is not your destination.
Sometimes that struggle is a part of the road that
gets you somewhere. So embrace it. There's no struggle. There's

(06:02):
no progress. Keep going. Frederick Douglas with your morning mindset.
Need it? Find it. Toby and Tilly Page, washfm.com. Also
on our social channels too. And if you've got something
you want to share with the class, you know where
to find us. Hang out for a few because in
minutes with Toby and Chili in the morning.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
A second grade teacher in Atlanta has gone viral for
creating a very unique corner in her classroom.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
Oh, unique is one way of putting it.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
It may be inspiring other teachers in the DMV. Stick around.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
97.1 Wash FM. We're Toby and Chili in the morning.
And morning, you are going to hear a word that
is another way of describing flatulence just now. So if
that offends you, you probably should go ahead and turn
it down. If now you're interested, turn it up because
we're going to talk about this corner in a classroom

(06:52):
that's got people talking right now.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
A second grade teacher in Atlanta has gone viral for
creating a designated quarter in her classroom for passing gas.
This is our fart corner. If you need to fart,
simply come over here, fart, take about 10 seconds, get
your little spray going on.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Go sit down.

Speaker 4 (07:10):
Nobody's paying attention.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
Nobody cares.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
If we were on social media right about now, I'd
be going, why? God, why? God, why? What was she thinking? Why, God, why?

Speaker 3 (07:22):
Well, 36-year-old Candy Browning says the reason she came up
with this is because it's less disruptive than having students
raise their hands, going out in the hallway, and then
coming back in. This way, if they need to pass gas,
they go to the gas station or the fart corner
and And they take care of their business. But what
I what I'm having trouble with is nobody cares. Really,

(07:44):
they're second graders. Farting is funny. And I'm guessing when
their classmate goes up to that corner to pass gas,
they're going to be giggling. And let's not even get
into the how do you call it? The funk of
40,000 years.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
They're not enough Febreze for that. Because what if there's
a line? There's multiple kids who had something gassy for
lunch that mom packed. This is to me not a
good idea. I was a second grade boy once upon
a time. You would not have me paying attention to
anything you're trying to teach me because I'd be watching
who is going to that fart corner. And then I'd

(08:17):
be like, Sally had to fart. You know, it's going
to happen.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
But she's saying it doesn't happen. The concept proved so
popular that returning students asked for it again at the
start of the new school year. So if it was
as disruptive as we think it was, she wouldn't have
brought it back.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
I want cameras in that classroom to prove that point
that you just made, Chili. Until then, I'll stay open-minded
about said corner of flatulence. What did you call it earlier?
The gas station. Well, you know, either she's the smartest
teacher on the planet or she successfully found a way
to keep that class laughing and entertained all period long.
You decide. Read more if you want to. Toby and

(08:54):
Chili page, watchfm.com and hang out. Coming up, top stories
at the top of the hour. Chili Amar, what's in
the news this morning?

are mailing people iPhones that they never ordered. Ooh, how
tempting is that? You get one in the mail, you
turn it on, and boom, guess what? Hackers, they steal
your passwords, your account information, and your verification codes.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
Now, that's as soon as you set it up.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
That's as, yeah, you power it on and you go
through the motions thinking, oh, a new phone I never ordered.
Police say, don't do that.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Do not do that.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
Do not turn that on and go for it. And
that is just one of the many scams that are
out there circulating and... people are falling for.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
Yeah, be careful with that, especially as they start to
launch these new iPhones and whatnot. You got to hold
on to your money and protect yourself, your identity, your data.
There's a lot of scams that people have fallen victim to.
866-927-4361 is the number. Is there a scam that maybe
bit you in the backside? Got to tell us all
about it so we can be warned because of what

I fell for the AI one where you sing a
song and it's like your head in someone else's body.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
And what happened?

Speaker 6 (13:39):
I basically got my credit card information stolen.

Speaker 4 (13:42):
I was like, okay, yeah, I'm going to do this.

Speaker 6 (13:45):
This is so cool. And basically got charged. They took
my credit card information.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
Yeah, that's the big no-no with anything these days when
it comes to these apps. Don't fall for that free
trial thing, especially if you know you're not going to
cancel it. It's not going to cancel itself. And then
all of a sudden you wonder why you maxed out
that card.

Speaker 6 (14:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (15:45):
I thought that he was going to send me a
car and we supposed to go on a trip.

Speaker 3 (15:48):
I hope you caught on that it wasn't real before
it cost you anything.

Speaker 7 (15:52):
And I done sent him $ 200 and nothing has happened.
He just keep making these promises. So I have to
say that's my embarrassing.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
Like I said, Chili, if it's too good to be true,
it probably is. Keisha, thanks for the call this morning.
Have you fallen for a scam? Is there something we

The meeting comes as polls show growing voter concern about
the cost of living. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is resigning.
This all comes after months of reported tension between himself

A D.C. police officer has died after a shooting inside

release that heavy metal music provides. Forecast for today, partly
cloudy skies, another hot day. Highs around 95 with that

Oh, hello there and welcome. You've got the question for
the tickets to see Ed Sheeran at The Link in Philadelphia.
What is your guest this morning?

Speaker 3 (20:50):
Flavor of pumpkin spice. So you think people would be
turned off by the fact that someone's ordering something pumpkin
spice flavored?

Speaker 1 (20:58):
I hope so.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
I'm a lover, too.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
I don't know that I would break up with somebody
if they ordered a pumpkin spice, but I can see
how I'd be like, that gives me the ick.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
Be like, we got issues.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
That is an excellent guess. 52% of people would consider
breaking up with a partner because they love anything with
pumpkin spice. That's the right answer.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
Tickets, Ed Sheeran, Philadelphia, hopefully 95 Northbound. Ain't too much
of a mess as you make your way up there

More tickets tomorrow morning with another round of your Nearly
Impossible Question. Be here to play and win right around
7-10 after Top Stories at the top of the hour.
Also this morning.

Speaker 3 (21:55):
Right around 740, we're going to talk about a new
dating tool, Stud or Dud. Was there ever anything you
discovered about somebody after you started dating them?

Speaker 4 (22:05):
866-927-4361 because we're talking.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
Stud or dud, because that's just what the world needs.
Another dating app. It's 97.1 Wash FM. Toby and Chili
in the morning. Did you hear about this new one? Well,
the stud or dud is really going to be helpful.
It's a new tool that helps you look up public
records to vet any potential dates. So just enter your

(22:30):
date's name and see what any public information exists out there.
Isn't that like Googling somebody?

Speaker 3 (22:36):
Yes.

Speaker 6 (22:36):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
We all do this, right? We look at people's social media.
We look to see if they have criminal records. I
think this is just a one-stop shopping place that they
can kind of find anything that's out there about their financials,
their property ownership, employment history, all that is available. But
to your point, it's not that unique. But that's just
looking at one component of somebody like financials or property ownership.

(22:57):
You don't really learn a whole lot of person's character
by the stud or dud. So you may come to
find out something kind of shocking after the fact.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
And that happened with you, Stephanie in Alexandria. Good morning
and thanks for calling us at 866-927-4361. This went down
with your husband? Well, he's my ex-husband.

Speaker 5 (23:18):
Well, when we were dating, we went to church together
and I saw him get baptized and everything. And within

Well, I mean, for these seats, I mean, right behind
