Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
Michael Bumpus. Playfake, go to roll right, dumps it off
into the right plasf to Michael Bumpers, who bounces off
of one tackler, gets inside the forty down of the
thirty five yard line. Powered by seahawks dot Com. Matt
pumpfake's looking at the goal line, he throws it into
the m zone. Touchdown, Say Hawks, it's Michael Thumpers with
(00:22):
a diving catching the end zone.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
A ten yard touchdown reception for Bumpers, and the kid
out of Washington State has found himself.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
A place on this team.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Now here's your host, Nasa Choviie.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Welcome into another edition of Hawk Talk. The Seahawks getting
ready to travel down to Santa Clair to take on
the San Francisco forty nine. Ers were broadcasting live from
the Seahawks Podcast Studio, presented by Sony, the official partner
of the Seattle Seahawks. Bump It's been a little eventful.
Speaker 4 (00:50):
Week, it has, man, you know, it's been a half
some time off, some changes happened, but we are here
once again doing what we do.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Yes, we are the bye week. I'm hoping to treat
everybody well. The Seahawks got some time off, got to retool,
rethink some things, and like we said, there was some
moves this week. See. Seahawks made a change at linebacker
on Monday, releasing Tyrel Dotson, who started the first nine
games of the season. Also a cornerback, Josh Joe Will
sign off the practice squad to fill an open spot
on the fifty three man roster. On top of that,
tight end Nikhil Harry, former first round pick, was signed
(01:19):
to the practice squad. Now. Dotson was one of the
big free agent acquisitions this offseason, with Jome Baker coming
in at linebacker. He signed in March. And don't take
the word for me. Let's hear from the head coach
kind of about what went into the decision to release
Tyrel Dotson.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
Oh, well, you know, we really appreciate te dot I mean,
he's he's worked extremely hard, rehabbed, you know, throughout the offseason. Here,
I think is one was an opportunity for us when
we when we kind of sat and it took a
step back and realized where we were at, it was
really the best thing for us to move forward that way,
give the other guys in the room an opportunity to
step up. I help those guys grab that opportunity by
the horns and take it and run with it. And
(01:58):
and then it gives it gives to our an opportunity to,
you know, find another spot somewhere else so he can
finish the year strong.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
So that was the thought behind it.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
But when you saw that move, what's kind of your
first reaction.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
First reaction was, I appreciate them making moves now and
not just waiting and saying we'll figure it out. We'll
figure it out, because obviously they weren't getting what they
wanted out of Dots. And I also appreciate them letting
him go because that allows him to go find work
elsewhere instead of having him sit on the bench and
having a rookie kind of takeover in Tyree's night. And
now you lost your spot in your mentoring, you're not
(02:33):
getting plays. My man led the team in tackle. So
I appreciate just the business side of this, because this
is a business and people, if you didn't understand it now,
then you understand it now. Like if you're not doing
your job the way they want you to do it,
they're gonna let you go. But I was surprised because
you look at the stats and you feel like Dotson
was a big part of what they're doing, and the
numbers can fool you.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
That's why it's so tough at linebacker. Numbers can fool you.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
You see all the tackles, all the snaps, you go,
he must be okay, it's in the details.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
So now I'm just happy for the youngster, Tyree's Knight.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Yeah, it should be really fun to see what Tyree's
can do. He's gonna get the first crack, as coach
had said. And then Drake Thomas is another guy who
got to play a little bit earlier. And I think
it's a big thing that both of them got some
playing time early, started some games from Jerome Baker early
in the season to kind of get used to it.
So it's not gonna be the first time out there
against the forty nine ers starting Tyrell Dotson. And I
had nothing but good things to say about him. He
was a great dude in the locker room. He did everything.
(03:24):
It was ass of him. You know, he's a good
player too. It just didn't work out. He got picked
up already on the Dolphins, and we'll see now. But
the Seahawks moving on Ernest Jones, Tyree Knight taking over
in the middle at linebacker. Those are the roster moves. Now,
let's put our focus back into those forty nine ers.
What's on tap?
Speaker 1 (03:42):
What's on tap?
Speaker 2 (03:44):
The San Francisco forty nine ers. Seahow fans are pretty
familiar a little bit with this third five and four,
second place in the NFC West, with wins over the Jets,
the Patriots, the Seahawks, the Cowboys in the Buccaneers losses
to the Vikings, Rams, Cardinals, and Kansas City Chiefs, and
they're kind of on their way back. They've won two
(04:05):
straight and three their last four. They're only lost no
shame there to Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City Chiefs. And
they're getting a lot healthier. They're bringing back Christian McCaffrey,
the All Pro running back. But their game against the
Bucks bump actually came down to the wire, not the
game we thought it was gonna happen, but it was
a close one.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
It was a close one. It was interesting watching Christian McCaffrey.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
He don't look like he's one hundred percent, you see,
there's a little I still got to fiel my way
through this, so we'll see what happens.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
But let's talk about that game against the Bucks.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
Forty nine is racked up a ton of yardage, almost
doubling the Buccaneers four hundred and thirteen to two hundred
and fifteen, but left nine points off the board when
kicker Jake Moody mo missed three field goals and Deebo
Samuel was not happy about that.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
He was not And I mean things happened. I feel
like people made a big deal out of it. Energy's
hot on the sideline. You feel like you're doing your
job and that unit of the team is and things happening.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
It's accountability to me.
Speaker 4 (04:55):
It's like, yeah, he's walking over, like come on, dog,
like I see one, okay, I can take two three.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Come on, man, you gotta do a job. And that's
all he was saying.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
Baker Mayfield, he led a drive to set up the
game time field goal would help him three straight personal
foul penalties in a crazy fourth and seven conversion. My
man was running to the sideline. Bolso had one arm,
He's fighting the mall and he makes that throw. I
was losing it watching that game. I go there's no
way Baker Mayfield makes that throw, but that's exactly what
he did. After the field goal, the score was tied
twenty to forty. They starts tied at twenty with forty
(05:26):
one seconds Romain.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
Yeah, and at that point they got they really messed
in an opportunity there. It's like first and goal from
the five or something. When they didn't score, I was nervous.
I didn't think what was gonna happen is that they
were going to give that up as quickly as they did.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Man Brock.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Party waste no time right down the field, setting up
the redemption. Jake Moody gets out there, connects on a
forty four yard field goal and they win.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
To take him out to drink, take him out to dinner,
and all is good. You know, this is what happens football.
Things happen. Yeah, I don't think he too much.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
And now he didn't do that though, you know.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
Party finished the day twenty five and thirty six for
three hundred fifty three yards and two touchdown and his return.
Christian McCaffrey had one hundred and seven total yards. Thirteen
carris for thirty nine yards, six receptions for sixty eight yards.
The forty nine Ers also did not ease him back
into the game. He played eighty eight percent of the snaps.
They say you healthyrong Ooday, No, that's that.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
I mean. McCaffrey scares me because he's he is what
he is, yep best running back and weren't talk a
lot about him. The fact that he's back is tough.
But they got a ton of other weapons. Jennings seven
receptions ninety three yards coming off injury, Ricky Pearsol great story,
great story, four receptions seventy three yards in the touchdowns,
and there wasn't a whole lot offense for Baker. Mayfield
finished the day eighteen of twenty nine one sixteen to
(06:35):
one touchdown, So there was an opportunity the Seahawks were
hoping to get some help that didn't happen. The forty
nine ers find out a way to win, and that's
what they've been doing recently. Bump. When you look at
his head to head, what stands.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
Out and you look at the rankings on the Niner side,
there's a whole bunch of doub single digits out there
when it comes to their ranking, their second offense overall,
fifth when it comes to running the Rocks, second and
when it comes to throw on the thing, and seven
when it comes to scoring ports. Defensively, ninth overall, eighth
against the run, twelfth pass defense, and then seventeenth when
(07:07):
it comes to points on the Seahawks side. A lot
of twenties in there, but they still are the best
passing game in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
I like that. That's where we beat them. We are
number one, they're number two. Yeah, you look at it. Obviously,
defensively is what stands out. The Seahawks obviously have a
lot low numbers. Twenty fifth in total defense, twenty six
against the run, twenty eight against the past, twenty third,
and points allowed. Obviously, we've talked about this. A lot
damage was done early on in the run game. That's
why the numbers look like they do. Silver Lining. The
boys played a lot better against the Rams and hoping
they can kind of put that together, especially after this
(07:36):
bye week, and turn things around there. We are broadcasting
live from the Seahawks Podcast Studio, presented by Sony, the
official partner of the Seattle Seahawks. These two teams have
played a ton recently. Let's know the history, No your history,
Hawks leade all time series thirty to twenty three, twenty
nine to twenty two in the regular season, one to
one in the postseason including the playoffs. The Seahawks have
(07:59):
lost the last six matchups. Man, it pains me to
say that because it's wild, doesn't Felix have been that long,
But it has been because the dominance that was before
Seahawks were sixteen to four in the previous twenty and
the Niners have their number unfortunately right now. And last
game bump that last Thursday night, that was.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
A heartbreaker that wone hurt because.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Unfortunately most games have started during this losing street. The
Seahawks fell behind early trail twenty three to three with
ten minutes to go in the third quarter. That's when
Leviska Shanaal took things into his own hands, takes it
ninety seven yards back on the kickoff return, got the
Seahawks back in the game twenty three twenty Seahawks get
a stop and then their best drive probably we've seen
it in the last six years against the Niners. Thirteen
plays ninety four yards ending with a one yard touchdown
(08:38):
run Byken Walker made that a one possession game. Unfortunately,
a little bit of miscommunication. On the falling offensive possession,
Gino's trying to link up a DK metcalf. That ball
gets intercepted, the Niners getting the en zone a couple
plays later George Kittle, but the game was not over.
Seahawks will respond again with a fifteen play seventy yard
touchdown drive ending with a nine yard touchdown. It's Tyler
Lockett and the thing that sucked was Dika had a
(09:01):
long touchdown about three minutes earlier in the drive, which
really would have helped how that game finish. Fortunately, though
the Seahows were still in it one forty four left
in the game, Seahawks had all three timeouts one possession
game they needed to stop to try to come back
and win it. Unfortunately, on that first play, eyes At
Grendo takes a seventy six yards kind of ceiling the game.
Gino finished a day thirty of fifty two to three
(09:22):
hundred and twelve yards, one touchdown, two interceptions. Ken Walker
had just thirty two yards and fourteen carries in a touchdown.
Brock Perty on another side eighteen to twenty eight, two
to fifty five, three touchdowns, and Deebo had three receptions
for one of two in a touchdown box score wasn't great.
Seahawks were out gained four eighty three to three fifty eight,
and the turnover battle lost three zero, and the Seahawks
(09:43):
are out rushed to twenty eight to thirty two. Despite
all that bump, they had a chance.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
They did have a chance.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
And the reason why the rush numbers are so low
is because when you're down two to three scores from jump,
you gotta throw the football. Gino threw the football fifty
times that game. Fifty times. He's still the only quarterback
year to throw for three hundred yards against these guys.
Though that sounds good, balance will be nice this game. Balance, balance, balance,
but still had a chance. That's all you ask for
end of the game. No matter what happens, you still
(10:10):
have a chance. At the end of the game. They
have that just couldn't finish.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Absolutely and hoping that tied shifts a little bit because
we'll talk about a little later. You can't get down
to a good football team like that because it's hard
to play one dimensional with guys like Nick Bosa and
other people on the defense. It is hard. But let's
football attention to what's going on in the rest of
the NFC West. What's the word side.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
And the Seahawks or the NFC West champs?
Speaker 2 (10:34):
Again, what's the word in the West? On hot Talk?
Speaker 4 (10:40):
Everybody's still in the fight, everybody, Everybody's still in the fight.
Arizona Cardinals six and four at the top of the
NFC West. You got the Niners at five and four,
and the Rams and Seahawks are knotted up at the
bottom at four and five. The Cardinals, man, they won
four games in a row, five out of their last six.
It's probably time to start saying that these dudes are
for real.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
You gotta respect it.
Speaker 4 (11:02):
You are what your record is, and your record gives
you the number one spot in the NFC West. For
the Seahawks, they are now four and five and currently
in last place in the NFC West, but they're not
out of it. Like I mentioned, however, three of the
next four games are against divisional opponents. The next month
will be huge in deciding the Seahawks playoff. Faith, these
are must win games. Starts with the Niners. I'm glad
(11:22):
they're getting them off of by more time to prepare.
The guys are getting healthy.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
You've made a couple changes and now you get to
go out there and ball out.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Yeah, probably the first time I feel like we've in
this streak or the Seahawks have had the advantage in
terms of rest heading into this game, so they're definitely
gonna need to take advantage of that bump. Jets and
Cardinals going down.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
Man, Now, it was not close. From the opening whistle.
It wasn't close. Arizona labt twenty four to six. At
a halftime, the Cardinals had a two thirty nine to
eighty five advantage in total yards.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
Kyler Murray is looking good, man.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
The Jets were shut out in the second half of
the Cardinals roll tour thirty one to six victory. Kyler
Murray playing his best football in his career, and it's
that's why I look at Gannon and what he's doing
over there, and you see the progression. It takes time.
In the NFL. People want instant satisfaction. We saw the
struggles last year, but somehow he's gotten into Kyler Murray's
brain and has allowed him to flourish. He was twenty
(12:17):
two or twenty four for two sixty six, one touchdown
and also rushed for two touchdowns. At one point, Murty's
had a franchise record with seventeen straight completions. James Connor,
running back over there, had one hundred and three total
yards and one touchdowns. The Cardinals also out rusted Jets
one forty seven to seventy nine. Aaron Rodgers was less
than impressive. That's his whole year. Is this less than impressive? Yeah,
(12:39):
I mean this is who he is at this point. Man,
it's forty. He's forty goodness. Twenty two of thirty five
for one to fifty one, zero touchdowns, zero interceptions, and
he was also sacked and fumbled on fourth and goal
from the third yard line. It's almost like his mistakes
just they don't resemble the mistakes of the past. Like
the mistakes of the past were him trying to make
a fifty passed down the field when they really needed
(13:01):
him it's interception. It just feels like things are much
harder for him with the Jets, even though he got
the Homie DeVante over there, who had six receptions for
thirty one yards.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
Yeah, not good enough, it's not I'll just say this.
Things could be worse.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
It could be.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
Things can be worse as bad as it's been recently.
Things can be worse. Seahawks fans will keep minded that
the Cardinals have a bye week and they're gonna be
well wrested when they take on the Seahawks at Luminfield
in two weeks. So that's gonna be a big one,
a big game for sure. Elsewhere in the division, Dolphins
went to the Rams. The Seahawks finally got some help.
It is a solid finally, Thank you, thank you, Tua.
You're looking good now.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
Hey, but Tua, man, don't be trying to tackle nobody
after interceptions.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
You see that, Tua, get out the way.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
Come on, man, do that like the kicker like punter
drive by or you look are gonna do it?
Speaker 3 (13:44):
And yeah, the Genikowski remember Jenet Casti at that?
Speaker 4 (13:47):
Yeahs running let him go, man, tick a trip them,
get a pillant this trip and get a penalty.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
You're good anyway, Speaking of to it, he was twenty
twenty eight one touchdown, win, interception, not amazing stats, but
where he made his money was on third down nine
of twelve, one hundred and thirty seven yards alone. Tyreek
Hill only had three receptions, becaught his first touchdowns since
the season opener, and the Rams out gained the Dolphins
three twenty seven to two thirty eight held a slight
advantage time possession, but the difference was their inability to
(14:11):
score in the red zone, having to settle for five
field goals. Stafford finished the day thirty two to forty six,
two ninety three, no touchdowns, one interception. Kyin Williams was
held to sixty two yards on fifteen carries and fumbled once.
Who Ganacua let all receivers nine receptions for ninety eight,
so he was still doing his thing. And the Rams
are going to head to New England to play the
Patriots on Sunday, so hoping the Seahawks can get a
(14:33):
little bit more.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
Help there that's allowed to ask for though the Patriots.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
I don't know. DRAMs May is kind of slimming that day, though,
is he not? Though he's doing it.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
He's going. He's maturing in front of our very eyes. Yeah,
a little get them rake, Yes he is.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
Let's flip it back to these forty nine ers and
man ups, man man.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Up on Hawk talk.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
We always started with the quarterback bump. That could be
any different here Brock Party taking on this sea off
defense and Party again, he's an interesting one. We know
he's a good quarterback at this point. I think that's
pretty self to say. He set him up and down moments.
So far in twenty twenty four, he's also been without
some of his top guys. Brandon Ayuk done for the
season after Week seven towards ACL Christian McCaffrey was out
this entire year. He's finally coming back. Deebo Samuel has
(15:23):
only missed one full game, but he's been in and
out of the lineup a couple different injuries. That being said,
Party's coming off the best performance of the season last week.
He was twenty five to thirty six three hundred and
fifty three yards two touchdowns, which was the season high
passing yards. Also finished the day with a career high
one fifty eight point three passer rating that is the
best in his career obviously, and the best for the
forty nine ers in a game where he had at
(15:45):
least twenty five passing attempts. So Perty did his thing
last week. But the thing about Brock Party Bump is
turnout he'll turn that thing over, and it really if
you look at the numbers, it's the key to their success. Honestly, Party,
when you take care of the football, the Niners generally win,
and when he doesn't, they generally lose. Six of the
seven interceptions he has this season have come in losses.
The forty nine Ers are one in three when Perty
(16:07):
is throwing an interception, and they are four to one
when he doesn't throw a pick. And the Niners the
one thing they do struggle in is a red zone,
which is surprising. It's shocking because they're kind of struggling
in the red zone last time we played them. But
the numbers have not even doubt. They're only scoring touchdowns
forty seven percent of the time, which is twenty eighth
in the National Football League. On the year, he's won
eighty one for two seventy eight two four hundred and
(16:28):
fifty four yards, twelve touchdowns, seven interceptions, and two fumbles loss.
He also has two hundred and twenty seven yards on
the ground and three touchdowns. Last weeknd's the last matchup
against Seahawks. Two hundred fifty five yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions.
So here's the thing, bomb if you got to find
a way to turn the ball over. When he's taking
care of the football, he is really hard to defend.
He extend plays Paul Moyers talked a lot about this,
(16:50):
about his ability to extend plays and that the Seahawks
are actually in a lot of good places the last matchup.
But he would extend to play and then he'd kill you,
leak out ten yards down the field. He could play
some ball, and the way to beat them is taking
the ball away. So we'll see if se As can
get that done on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
Him extending plays is like a little toddler when they're
trying to run from you before the bad time or whatnot,
and you're right there and they to slip right balue.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
That's party man.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
He's got twenty three rushing first downs, that's second on
the team, so that third and short situation, he's good
for it. He has a quick burst. He's not going
to run for thirty five forty yards. He's not even
I would say he's quicker than Pat Mahomes, but Pat
Mahomes just has a feel for angles and stuff.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
But he's got that quick little burst. That's what makes
them dangerous.
Speaker 4 (17:30):
He will get you, so man, grab him, get him
to the ground, and do it often.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
Let's talk about our quarterback. Gino had an interesting game
last week.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
But it was twenty one to thirty four for three
hundred six three yards and three touchdowns. Has some clutch throws.
He looked good at times, but there was the turnover issue.
He had three interceptions. So he opened in this presser
following the Rams games with this comment. These comments he
took it look, he goes. Look, first of all, I
want to start off by apologizing to my teammates really
(17:59):
and to the city, to the organization. Smith said, they
put a lot of trust in me with my decision making,
and when they put the ball in my hands, when
my teammates played the way they play today and give
us a shot to win the game. I've got to
make sure we do the things I did today. Mistakes
I made they affect us negatively and really cost us
the game today. Meno on myself, I know how much
(18:19):
this is going to hurt. I'm going to step it
up though. That's how I feel about it. I'm going
to step it up. He did what a quarterback is
supposed to do, right. It ain't all on Geno, but
he is a quarterback. He's the face of the franchise.
He realizes that he steps with to the podium every
game win or lose, and he takes the bullets. That's
what he did right there, Gino, I know it ain't
just shoot though, Okay, you got to take some responsibility.
(18:41):
There were some throws at a throw that I felt
like that was on him. But there's some things that
happened that's out of his control. But he did what
he's supposed to do.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Yeah, But to your point, I don't even think that
was necessary because of it's a team game and all
that stuff. But I love to see accountability and that's
just the leader seven is.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
Yep, that's what he does. So Gino through ten weeks
and this is where he is.
Speaker 4 (19:00):
He's fourth when he comes to passing yards, he's eleventh
in completion percentage. He's thirty completions in fourth for attempts
against San Francisco, all right.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
In his five starts, he struggled a little bit.
Speaker 4 (19:11):
He's one twenty eight of one to eighty eight six
eight percent completion, eleven hundred eighty yards, four touchdowns, five interceptions.
He's been sacked fifteen times with a zero to five record.
That surprises me, even though you read out the stat
that they're old for the last six I just knew
Gino had at least one win against his dudes, but
it's been attributed to a lot of the pressure, right,
That's why he's struggled a bit. And there's no secret
(19:33):
this line of struggle. So obviously Gino is going to struggle.
So we'll see what he does against the ninth defense
overall and twelfth against the pass.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
Yeah, they're good football team, we know that, and part
of it is you can't get down to these massive
deficits because whether you're running the ball well or not,
it's about the illusion that you can. And if a
guy like Nick Bosa and all those guys can just
get ready for a passing down every single time, and
you're asking everyone to pass set a million times, that's
not a restpee to win, no, almost against anyone nation footballleague.
(20:01):
So I'm open the Seahawks and get that going and
Gino can get off to a little bit better start
against these forty nine ers. Footprint it two the do
everything Swiss army Knife Christian McCaffrey back taking on the
Seahawks front seven. We know how dangerous he is. It's
his resume speaks for herself. Three time Pro bowler, two
time All Pro twenty twenty three AP Offensive Player of
the Year, but he's been on IR since September fourteenth,
(20:24):
hadn't played until this last weekend. He had to go
down and see a specialist in Germany working on his
Achilles tenonitis. Wherever he got done, He's back in the lineup.
You talked about it earlier. One hundred and seven total yards.
He played eighty eight percent of snap So they didn't
ease him into the ball game, and they're definitely not
going to ease him into the Seahawks. Now another week
under his belt, and he's dangerous, and it's how you
attack him, and it's being your rush LANs, all the
(20:46):
things you have to be perfect against this guy. But
what makes me positive, It gives me a moment of clarity.
He's like, no, there's light at the end of the tunnel.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
It's what the Seahawks defense did against the Rams last week.
Before last week, the Seahaws had given up one hundred
and fifty yards war Street weeks. Okay, they held the
Rams to just six year yards rushing, first time they've
done that since the Detroit game. They ranked twenty six
in the NFL, allowing one hundred and thirty nine yards
per game. Obviously, that's not where they want to be,
but they showed us something last week. Now it's also
gonna be different because now you have a different linebacker
(21:16):
combination that's playing this week. Ernest Jones has been here
for a little bit longer, so he's getting even more
of his legs underneath him. Then you throw on the
rookie Tyres Knight, Slawt Strake Thomas. We'll see how dirty
and McDonald switched up the defense in terms of packages nickels.
They talked a lot about Devin Witherspoon. Is he gonna
get little bit more pressures because the number show when
he does when he does blitz, the Seahawks defense is
(21:36):
performing a little bit better. So we'll see what happened there.
But like when you're playing this team, bump, you gotta
be so right. Your eyes gotta be on point, that perfect.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
Your eyes gotta be on point because they're gonna make
a cross eye with all the stuff they're doing a
pre snap, but pull this way, roll that way.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
They gotta be on point. And I'm encouraged.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
I want to see what the young mister Knight can
do on with that squad. Let's talk about their wide receivers, Man, Goodness, Graces,
Deep Samuel, you know them, Man and Juwan. Jenny's coming
off a good game. Ricky Pierce saw great story. Like
you mentioned, my man was shot and discorded his first
touchdown last week. Every position group on this team has talent,
(22:13):
but they are without Brandon. Iuki towards acl as you
mentioned earlier in the Week seven, But you know what,
I don't feel too bad for them. I feel bad
for Brandon Au, but not for this team because they're good,
all right. They still got Deebo Samuel, and we know
he does a little bit of everything. Man, he's got
forty overall touchdowns in his career.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
Forty.
Speaker 4 (22:30):
It's like twenty twenty twenty past twenty run It's it's ridiculous.
He had one of his best games of the season
against the Seahawks, where he had three receptions for one
hundred and two yards, including that big seventy six yard touchdown.
Speaker 3 (22:42):
I believe was that right after halftime. It was like
after we answered.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
No, it was earlier. It was early in the game,
because remember it was a play that like looked like
Julian Love was trying to make up four. Kind of
misjudge it. I think that's went up fourteen three, But yeah,
big play yep.
Speaker 4 (22:53):
On the year, he has twenty nine receptions for four
hundred and sixty eight yards in one touchdown. Also has
twenty six cares for eighty yards and a touchdown.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Probably man.
Speaker 4 (23:01):
One of the biggest surprises of the season has been
the emergence of Jiuwan Jennys. Jenny's already has better numbers
than all of last season four hundred and ninety seven
receiving yards. He made his return to the lineup on
Sunday after missing several weeks with a hip injury. Against
the Bucks, he led all receivers with seven receptions for
ninety three yards and the first match up against the Hawks,
they have three for twenty seven. On the year, thirty
(23:23):
two receptions four hundred ninety seven yards in three touchdowns.
And now the young man from Florida Wrecky Piersoll caught
his first NFL touchdown this past week against the Bucks,
just ten weeks after being shot in the chest during
an attempted robbery. The fact that he's playing now is
just amazing. My man was shot, My man was shot.
Nash and he is in the league and making plays,
(23:46):
and I'll watch him on film. He's not just a
guy who's out there. No, he's a route runner. He
has great hands to run after the catch is crazy.
He's gonna be a problem. He was in a first
round pick for no reason.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
And the crazy thing about that story you read up
on it, the god was looking down on the fact
that the bullet went through didn't touch anything on either side.
I mean, first of all, and he was a g
he just walked up, got in the ambulance. I'm like, Holy,
he's a problem. And you watch this Bucks game and
you watch him and you're like, oh, he's gonna continue.
He's starting to get his legs underneath him. He's gonna
(24:17):
be a problem. And the Seahawks are definitely have to
come with it. They're twentieth against the pass, only two
hundred eighteen yards per game. So we'll see what between
Spoon and Reeke and now Josh Joe, who looks like
he's gonna be the next guy, that third guy at corner.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
So that's a good story too, Josh Joe, great story.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
What's footpoitar receivers DK Metcalf, Jason Tyler Lockett. Jaysen is
coming off one of the best games in Seahawk history.
That's the crazy thing. So he had seven receptions, one
hundred and eighty yards two touchdowns. Those are both career highs.
He joined the list with only Tyler Lockett and Steve
Margin as the only members to have one hundred and
eighty yards receiving and two touchdowns. That was with having
seventy eight yards receiving taken off the board. He would
(24:54):
have been number two all time in like two hundred and
fifty some reception yards if those penalties didn't happen. Unfortunately
they did. So it was Jason's second one hundred yard
receiving game and I hope he can build off that
because he's kind of showed you the blueprint. We talked
about this before he had that little screen. He showed
some wiggle. Now he's getting over the top all the
things that we thought we were going to see when
we drafted him, and he's always had it, so it's
(25:16):
really cool to see him kind of show that off.
Last week. He's tied with dk Metcalf for team leading
receiving yards. He's got fifty receptions, five hundred and sixty
eight yards on the year and three touchdowns. Last time
against the Niners, he was five receptions for fifty three yards.
Now DK metcalf. I'me on DK hoping to make his
return to the lineup after being out the last two
weeks with mcl injury. Coach McDonald's been optimistic all week.
(25:36):
We're gonna have to wait and see. They probably gona
take that up to game time, but we know how
dangerous DK is in what he does to a defense
when he's on the field. Despite missing two games, DK
still up there. He's got five to sixty eight three touchdowns.
The last game against the Niners, he had three receptions
forty yards, had a fifty yard touchdown taken away the penalty.
So hopefully DK is back out there and then got
the og J mister consistent on the season thirty four receptions,
(26:01):
four hundred and fifty six yards and two touchdowns. But
I saw this stat and it blew my mind. I
didn't even think it was real. But Tyler has not
had one hundred yard game since Week thirteen of twenty
twenty two lies. He's had a couple in the nineties.
Speaker 3 (26:14):
It's just crazy.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
It's just when you think about that, because he's just
so consistent.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
Yeah, all that tells me is, oh, boys, due, he's due.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
He's due for a big one because he's too consistent.
And if the Seahawks are running the ball and doing
different things, he can be a guy that's going to
be in there in the slot causing havoc against this
Niners team. We talked about twelve th against the pass.
There's six in the NFL in interceptions with ten and
eighth in the NFL passes defended. And the other dude
just got paid. So the Leonor and ward Tho's got
(26:42):
some good corners. So the Seahawks receivers were definitely gonna
have their work cut out for him.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
Yeah. Man, come on, come on, that's the triot right there.
Speaker 4 (26:48):
We need them to ball out and we need the
offensive line to take care of a man by the
name of Nick Bosa. If you don't know who he is,
he must have just started watching football, because in twenty
twenty two was a Defensive Player of the Year eighteen sacks.
He was voted to the Pro Bowl in finished six.
When it comes to MVP voting, the last game against
(27:09):
the Seahawks, he had himself a good game, but if
you don't know what you're looking at, then you might say,
what are you talking about? He had four tackles and
two QB hits, but he was all over that game,
man fourteen pressures. According to NFL next Gen Stats, it
was the league's most productive outing in that regard since
Bosa notch fourteen pressures in twenty twenty two and then
win over the Rams.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
So far on the year, thirty two tackles, five and.
Speaker 4 (27:31):
A half sacks, eight TFLs, fifteen QB hits, one force
fund but one pass defended, one interception. Nick Bosa will
be a problem for this defense, for this offensive line.
Speaker 3 (27:41):
Excuse me, Nick Bosa. Just watch him work his stance.
Speaker 4 (27:46):
Lets you know he's here for business right the way
he gets back there.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
And he's relentless.
Speaker 4 (27:51):
Man, he's one of the best defensive lineman I've seen
watching the game in the last twenty five years. And
he's going to be a problem. So we'll see what
cross looks like against him, because he'll see him. We'll
see if Abe plays, if he'll be a problem to
fingers crossed. So we shall see. But o line gotta
be ready to go because nick Bosa does not play.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
Gosh, I really want ab to come back. Man, he
just again, I don't want to put all the pressure
expecting to be the savior of this group and all
of a sudden there are gonna be a top line
in the game. But he brings that dog, that nastiness.
Abe was the nicest dude, silent, but when you get
on the football field there was seventy two is a
problem too. I'm excited to see, hopefully he can come back.
We'll definitely wait and see on that. Probably gonna take
(28:28):
that up to the game time and last match you
want to look at. You want to up another old,
reliable wan of the best to do it in the game.
George Kittle and man second in the NFL and receiving
yards among tight ends forty three receptions, five hundred and
sixty yards, seven touchdowns. His seven receiving touchdowns is second
in the entire NFL. He's a guy that will pancake you.
He'll beat you over the top. He's just a matchup nightmare.
(28:50):
Last game against the Hawks, five receptions, fifty eight yards
and two touchdowns. They got weapons, Bump, we know they
got weapons. Yeah, but I'm telling you man, I think
this is it? Will right? Please you?
Speaker 1 (29:05):
Right?
Speaker 3 (29:05):
I will.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
I'm with you.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
I'm with you.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
It's been a week. Come on, Donald got the boys right.
I'm feeling good about this one, bumba. Let's tell everyone
how the seas are gonna get this done. Path to victory.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
After forty five waits for the staff, Michael Dixon puts
it down. That kick is away.
Speaker 2 (29:20):
If that kick.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
Is gone, good, stay off.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
When it's gone. It's a path to victory. On Hawk Talk.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
If last week was one of the biggest games in
the Coach McDonald era in such a short time, this
one's even bigger. Fast Seahawks are owned two in the Division,
one in four in the NFC, and this game is
gonna have huge playoff implications. It's one of those things
you got to get in there and slay the Giant.
The Seahawks have lost six games in a row to
this forty nine er squad.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
Lay the Giant. I like that.
Speaker 4 (29:47):
In order to change their faith, the Seahawks need to
start fast and stop digging themselves in a hole man
six game. During the six game losing streak, the Seahawks
have trailed at halftime by combined score of one hundred
and four to thirty six. Matthing, my thing, but that
that don't sound good. That don't sound good. The Hawks
have led at halftime only once during that stretch too,
(30:09):
in twenty twenty two wildcard game against these guys, and
have trailed by double digits in four of the last
six games.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
You cannot win that way, you got it.
Speaker 4 (30:18):
I'm not even asking to be up by a bunch
at half right, just be within striking range.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
So now you can run the football.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
You can call the game that you want to call
if you are grub instead of saying, all right, gino,
let's throw the ball. They throwing the ball what three
hundred and eighty five times, and Gina's been pressured like
one hundred and thirty something times, Like it's it's a
lot to ask that offensive line to protect that that
much for that long, right, and for Gina to perform
at a high level.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
Yeah, you can't. You can't play for buying against a
good team. That just it's gonna be hard to beat
any in the NFL when you're behind that much and
you become one dimensional. The Hawks have also struggled to
run the ball during that six game streak. The Seahawks
are averaging just sixty seven yards per game, rushing three
point seven per carry, one hundred and eight carries for
four hundred and four yards. So that's also not going
to get it done. And then you alluded to it.
They gotta protect, you know, Nick Bosa cannot ruin the
(31:03):
football game. You can't have double.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
Digit pressures yep. And red zone. The red zone has
been an issue. Yeah, these are these past few games.
So take care of the ball and execute. We can't
have the high snaps or the interception. You just have
to be efficient down there, and if you do that,
you give yourself a chance.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
To score some dang points.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
Gotta have it SEWK. I don't want to say have
to play perfect, but they have to come out and
start fast and play well like we know they can.
They have enough guys on the strawsser to get it done.
The Niners aren't some They're not the Kansasity Chiefs right now.
They're five and four. They've lost four games, and they
look bad in some of those games. I know they're
a good football team. We just talked about about half
hour talking about how good a football team they are.
But the Seahawks have some dudes too. We're hoping they
(31:43):
can get that done. Reminder, you can hear us everywhere
on YouTube, seahawks dot com, podcast, Spotify, Serius XM, and
more Runner YouTube under the Seahawks Press Pass channel. We'll
be talking to you next week, hopefully about a Seahawks victory.
He's Michael Bombas, I'm Nasa Choby. This has been another
edition of Hawk Talk. Want to you guys next week.
Speaker 4 (32:02):
No good man, good many m
