Speaker 1 (00:04):
Welcome to NFL Daily, where we don't trust ourselves not
to honk too much.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
I'm Greg Rosenthal here in the Chris Wesleyan.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
Podcast studio with Steve Weish, Colleen Wolf, and Jordan Rodrieg
previewing week thirteen. Yes, the game's after Thanksgiving and Black Friday,
and Jordan, Yeah, I don't quite trust us not to
get out of here in less than two hours, So
we're putting a clock on every game only five minutes.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Are you wearing that yesterday?
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (00:33):
Outfit, repeat we yesterday.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
It's a little it's a little trick of the game.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
Hey, we got we got family, and my parents arrived
on Monday night, so that was exciting. My brother and
his wife are coming and we're actually gonna have the
entire family together.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
We bought a new table that extends out.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
It'll be the first time that we've all been together
for Thanksgiving ever, because the last time was when my
son and Walker wasn't even born yet. So cool, and
I love a sunny Thanksgiving. Like we're looking at the temperatures.
You were saying, it's gonna be like thirty degrees everywhere
I was driving into work today. It's in the seventies
(01:13):
and sunny, and you can see the snow on the
mountains in the diss.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
That's the combo you want, why.
Speaker 5 (01:20):
We pay the sunshine.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
So we're setting this up. We got twelve games. They
were randomly assigned. Jordan was upset that she didn't get
the Rams Panthers, but they were randomly assigned.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
It's the two teams that shaped my existence. Okay, but okay, yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:37):
I got you.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
I just went in order, and so everyone got three
games apiece. And what we're gonna do is we're gonna
start a clock and we're gonna start the discussion with
one thing that will blow your mind. Uh, for each
game and anything that you want to lead off the game.
And Jordan, you're gonna lead us off first with Texan
(02:00):
and Colts, probably the best game on Sunday. Colts are
favored by four and a half. With that number, but
two games left between these two teams. What do you
got for us? What's going to blow our mind?
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (02:14):
And if you love football, this is for you because
Houston's defense is magnificent. It is a work of violent art.
It is the thing that I have surprised myself about.
And that's one of the things that I look forward
to the most about every single week of this season
so far is certainly not to watch their offense, but
to watch Houston's defense.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
All of the cool stuff.
Speaker 6 (02:38):
Of all the cool things that's happening in football right now,
this defense is right at the top of the list
for me. They're loaded at every single position, but it
starts up front. Will Anderson Junior and Danil Hunter are
playing unreal football.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
They're also getting.
Speaker 6 (02:50):
Great pressure and run defense from the inside. They only
need to four in front to effectively rush, and they're
playing a ton of really cool like Murky zone behind it,
which is worrying the hell out of quarterbacks. Their second
in points allowed per game, and they allow their opponents
to run a successful play on just thirty eight percent
of their snaps, which is fourth in the NFL. That
(03:12):
is the thing that blows my mind is how good
this team has stayed even with all of its troubles.
Missing CJ. Sharges back this week and also their offense
in general.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Got to show it. This is their chance to do
it against a great cold Stevie. I think it was
a big moment for the Texans defense as a brand
and for something that blows you right that they actually
did get the stop late against the Bills, not just
because it saved their season, but the one thing that's
separating them in all time great, you know, really memorable
defenses is actually they have given up the drive at
the end of the game a few times this year
(03:43):
to the Broncos, to the Bucks, to the Jags. Even
that one was tough, but this time they stet up
and can they do it against them?
Speaker 7 (03:49):
Well?
Speaker 8 (03:49):
I was here that Thursday night and so that crazy
like hook and lateral players truli we call it was amazing.
And the thing that stood out talking to the Bills
players was like, not only are the off and talented,
but just the effort is relentless, Like they don't ever
give up. And something I know strategy heads love. They
don't play nickel. They go a true four three four.
(04:12):
They got Henry Bolt as he's al shire e j
speed because they can all go yeah. So that allows
them to do delayed blitzes and things like that. They're
really confused at quarterback. I love Houston and Indiana. You
know in that game last week, they just showed me.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
A little Are they ready for a moment like that?
Speaker 5 (04:31):
And that's exactly like, are they ready? I'm not quite sure.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
We'll see, I mean, we're gonna find out.
Speaker 7 (04:36):
And Will Anderson Junior, he's been so good as you
just mentioned, but how they can use him to effectively
slow down and sort of bottle up Jonathan Taylor and
then make Daniel Jones really rely on the pass, and
that I think is where the Texans are going to
win this game. So then with the Colts having lost
to the Chiefs and then losing to the Texans, where
(04:59):
would that he and put them in the AFC.
Speaker 6 (05:01):
Yeah, I think this, I mean I love that. I
love that point because the way that the Colts do
play offense actually is a great matchup for them versus
one of the NFL's best defense is because as solid
as this group is against the pass, they are more
susceptible than the rest of their top ten defensive counterparts
(05:22):
against the explosive pass. And also, unlike their counterparts in
the top five of these defenses, right now, they're the
only ones allowing over four yards per play on the ground,
so every piece of their focus has to be on
a not getting caught up by an explosive pass play
by one of the most explosive passing offenses still in
(05:44):
football right now. And also, like you said, Colleen, focusing
all of that effort on limiting Jonathan Taylor.
Speaker 8 (05:50):
And I love that they better play yeah, because if
he comes in here and he MUCKs it up, you're
gonna hear with some Davis millscote.
Speaker 5 (05:57):
I'm serious. Still, I was down there. You will no nills.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Its played at the perfect level where of course CJ.
Stratt has got to be an upgrade, but it did
enough to win. I love that every team, every season
is a story, and like, we don't know how these
two teams, this story are gonna end. They're gonna play
each other twice on this could be the season that
like shows how strong this Texans team are to like
(06:21):
bounce all the way back. And it could be or
or the Colts will really be that team this season.
But when I think about these two like coaches who
came around at the same time, like the Texans, despite
how young they are, they are the experienced team. They've
been in bigger games in these spots. So if you're
gonna go win the division, you gotta take it from
the Texans. Love it all right, but we didn't even
(06:43):
get to the buzzer. Here, look at us. Let's go
to the Rams and the Cardinals. Rams are favored by
ten and a half points in Carolina and the Rams Panthers,
rather the Panthers at home. Returning after Monday night football, Steve,
we got some news that Trayvon Marrek suspended for cup
(07:09):
check punching Juwan Jennings in the nether regions.
Speaker 5 (07:13):
You just don't do that at the end of the game,
and that's a big blow.
Speaker 8 (07:15):
I initially literally, So here's what blows my mind. I
initially said this was going to be a much closer.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
Game than a ten and a half.
Speaker 8 (07:21):
I thought it was gonna be more like a three
point game, just because the Rams are playing at such
a high level. To continue that is hard. But the
possibility not only Marry who's having a very good season out,
but jac Horn had the concussion forty nine. If he's out,
I'm gonna change my blow my mind to Matthew Stafford
throwing five touchdowns to different receivers because going two scoop
(07:41):
to DeVante Adams, because they've got something really working.
Speaker 5 (07:44):
All right, Jordan, the rest is your No.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
She's so excited about this game too. She sat up
really straight in her chair and just was smiling. Right
before I.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
Reckon, I saw my hands were folded. I was like,
what the f am I doing right now?
Speaker 6 (07:59):
Like it's so fun because so Bryce Young has simply
got to play better. There were a couple of throws
that he made that just he could have picked up
on the ground with his legs, including that interception in
the end zone when he could have he could have
scored a touchdown with his legs. I think that this
receiver group is going to have such a hard time
with the way that the Rams corners are playing right now,
(08:21):
Kobe Durant coming off multiple interceptions in the last couple
of weeks. Emmanuel Forbes has about that very quietly become
one of the best cornerbacks permmeitter cornerbacks in the NFL
this year. And he's playing he allowed no catches last week,
and he's coming down and tackling in space. And when
I look at the way the only thing that Dave
Canalis can seem to effectively get this offense going with
(08:45):
in the past game is on some of those screens,
which you're going to need to do against.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
This pass rush.
Speaker 6 (08:49):
The way that these corners are coming down and not
just tackling in space but quite literally taking the ball
out of the hands of a tight end. And exactly
so I just think that this defense, this Rams defense,
I and you guys know this. I've been honking about
the Matthew Stafford season all before the season, right, but
this defense to me under Chrishula against it, and also
(09:13):
on the opposite sideline, his former colleague at Joe Evro
and Jonathan Cooley's over there. This defense under Chrishula is
one of the biggest stories of the NFL season in
my opinion, because it's all young guys that they drafted
and a couple vets that they paid cheap deals.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
It's why there's no reason to think this is going
to be a good game. It's not going The Rams
have outscored one I sold forty nine to three in
the first quarter since their bye week. In the first
quarters of games, they've outscored opponents forty nine three.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
There's been like no let up with this team.
Speaker 5 (09:40):
It's hard to keep that up though. It's hard to sustain.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
That's fair and it's like a ten am n I
West Coast game.
Speaker 6 (09:46):
See Sean McVay take his foot off the gas many
a season against inferior.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
But this team has been different, to be fair, than
any other team like that.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
The Rams.
Speaker 7 (09:55):
There's no way in looking at them and saying, oh,
maybe the Panthers could get them here here or here.
They're just like such a complete team and they were
just steam rolling defenses with their passing game. They can
also run the ball against the Panthers too, So the
Panthers it's like, okay, their defense can maybe create turnovers
here and they're not against the Rams though, I mean
(10:15):
against other teams, and that's how they kind of can
create momentum with the short fields. For Bryce Young, we
saw what three picks in the first half in the
Monday Night game. But this is clearly advantage Rams Rams
Rams Rams.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
Right with the forty.
Speaker 8 (10:29):
Nine ery to Bryce was what teams are doing to
Bryce to make him look small, right, They were resetting
the line of scrimmage so he couldn't step into throws.
He doesn't, he doesn't have the arm to wing it
on arm strength and just a couple of he's seeing
his receivers late if you're watching on YouTube, he's late
that we since receiver was open for five yards and
I don't know why it took him so long to
(10:51):
find it. You know where you're supposed to go one, two, bang,
throw it. He's late right here and so that was
getting into his face and not a lot right here
in his face. The ball is coming out like you know,
a pop gun. And that's just something. If the Rams
those guys and the inside Kobe turning those guys.
Speaker 5 (11:09):
It could be tough.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
He could be ugly.
Speaker 6 (11:11):
One of the things that I didn't like about the
way that Bryce played earlier this week was he threw
that interception with a clear gimme yard pickup on the ground,
but he had gotten hit on a run the play before,
and so to me, it's like, you're thinking about that
and that's why you're a laid on the receiver and
you're late on deciding that you can just run in
(11:32):
this score right now. And so against the Rams, who
are We saw that early in the season against this
Texans team too. The Rams defense came out and showed
how professional of hitters they are and they are physical,
and I think that is going to be one of
the swing points. The thing that I think the Panthers
do have going in their favor is that They have
delighted in playing spoiler all season against these teams where
(11:55):
that's almost become part of their identity. They can't figure
out what the hell they are the rest of the time,
but give them a spoiler game and they might just
go and do something. And so I think that's where
they have an advantage. Yeah, the under advantage is I
might have cursed Matthew Stafford by writing this week in
my column that he should have been that he should
be the MVP because he's thrown and he's thrown no interceptions,
(12:15):
so it might be time for a Stafford interception.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
Yeah, but this is the game to load up on
those numbers. This is a team that can't pressure anyone.
And yeah, this is generally when the MVP race really
starts and Stafford kind of enters the stretch run the
important part as the.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
Favorite, they run the ball. Thanks, thanks, Colleen.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
Thanks for setting me up on that one there, Guys,
I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
We're excited for your game, Colleen. You are gonna tell
us this one, Colleen, what is going to blow your mind?
Between the forty nine ers and the Browns. The forty
nine ers are on the road and they're favored by
four and a half.
Speaker 7 (12:54):
Okay, the quarterback that signed a two hundred and sixty
five million dollar tracked extension will finish the game with
more turnovers than the fifth round rookie making his second
darn Love Rock Party will have more turnovers than Chadoor Sanders, and.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
She accepted the assignment, but it's.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
I could see this happening. There is absolutely a path
for this.
Speaker 7 (13:23):
The Niners are already on a short week, they're on
the road at Cleveland, and they're in the early window,
so that's going to be an interesting thing for their body.
And just in terms of uh like recovery, it's going
to be cold outside. Miles Garrett is going to move
all over that line wherever the favorable matchups are, and
that's right in front of Colton mckivitz. You have that
(13:46):
consistent pressure that is going to force Brock into rushed passes,
bad decisions, certain mistakes, and shoulder Sanders. The big question
is how can he build off of that performance against
the Raiders. San Francisco is a much better defense even
with the injuries than the Raiders.
Speaker 5 (14:05):
They're much better defense with three players.
Speaker 7 (14:08):
Yes, so can't stress that enough, but I'd love to
see his ability now because it's not a full strength
Niners defense, which would be I think, really difficult for
Shador Sanders. But let's just see even a water down,
a dialed back one which is still extremely good against Chador,
(14:30):
and how he is processing the information and how quickly
he can make these decisions and get the ball out.
And I wanted to see, like imagine that. I imagine
that the Browns in this situation would be more conservative
with him in terms of the game plan Shador Sanders like,
use lean on the run game, use play action to
(14:50):
help him sort of read defenses and get just a
nice start early, and just be conservative with him to
kind of protect him from himself.
Speaker 8 (14:57):
I don't think they're gonna be able to run the
ball that well again Snyder's defense.
Speaker 5 (15:00):
They're gonna sell out to force him to throw. I
mean I think that. And you saw how sticky of
hands they were in the second deary yeah that they have.
So I don't think Hevin Stefanski's gonna try and be conservative.
Speaker 8 (15:11):
I think he's gonna be like, okay, prove it to
a shooto or make some plays just the way things
have been handled with him, and I think she is
gonna be you know, I think it's gonna be up
for the challenge.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
I think it's a good matchup. The forty nine ers
have no pass rush.
Speaker 5 (15:25):
I think it's a good matchup. Not a good pass rush.
They've got a good secondary.
Speaker 8 (15:27):
The linebackers are playing very well, right, so the you know,
the winners, guys like that.
Speaker 5 (15:32):
So these are things where they're not gonna allow the
run again, they're gonna sell it out.
Speaker 8 (15:36):
But I think she is gonna be able to make
some plays and for rock Perty thirty four degrees to
project it high sun day.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
Oh god, that's that's the interesting side has nine degrees
because I think there's a path to the forty nine
ers being dangerous in the playoffs with an elite offense.
I think there is a path to them having a
top five offense. But obviously Perty needs to play better
and you cannot run on this Browns team. There are
a great defense overall, and you think of Miles Garrett
and how they get after the passer, but they are
number one in DVOA against the ground. It is going
(16:04):
to be really difficult, I think for Christian McCaffrey in
this running game, which has been inconsistent but better lately,
and so it's a great test for him because it's
not like they're going to give up on it. But
it's really a great test for Purty and this protection
and whether they can be a complete offense. They're getting close,
they haven't quite gotten Pierce All in the mix. I
don't think Juwan Jennings is going to get suspended for
(16:25):
that punch.
Speaker 5 (16:26):
Victim what he's the victim?
Speaker 1 (16:28):
I guess so, but he did deliver a punch, we
don't know. At this point, he has not been suspended.
So what a great matchup when they have the ball.
Speaker 4 (16:35):
I agree.
Speaker 6 (16:36):
I think that this Cleveland defense, I think they're going
to force the forty nine ers to have to try
to pass them.
Speaker 5 (16:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (16:42):
I want to play a game quickly with you guys.
How many tackles for loss do you think this Cleveland
defense has number one in the league.
Speaker 5 (16:49):
It's got to be high thirties.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Well, no, yeah, Garrett's almost got that on his own.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
Tackles for loss? How much?
Speaker 2 (16:55):
I have no conception of what would a lot or
a little would be.
Speaker 6 (16:58):
I don't think about how much you're thinking and then
probably double it ninety seven, No, ninety seven tackles for lost.
The next closest is a tie between the Vikings and Seahawks.
Speaker 4 (17:09):
It's seventy five.
Speaker 6 (17:10):
Still a lot, but ninety seven tackles for lost. I
don't think that they're going to be able to get
the run game going the way that Kyle.
Speaker 5 (17:16):
She gave babies too.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
So Eric has been on record he likes to hear
other voices in the show.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
Gets a little boring just listening to us.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
All the time. So let's listen to our friend Omar Ruiz.
I don't know why I'm taking shots. Let's listen to
George Kittle with Omar Ruiz grade and four. Now we
have a game in Cleveland next week, and then you
get to buy sous crazy.
Speaker 5 (17:37):
Yeah, Miles Garrett is coming for you.
Speaker 6 (17:39):
Man.
Speaker 5 (17:40):
Sure the whole interview was great, but that was beautiful.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
Great job.
Speaker 7 (17:46):
I did get to get by Miles Garrett on a
thirty four.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
That's best case scenario. Every day, it's going to be probable.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Famously, Jordan chose to get tackled by Miles Garrett multiple
times in the rest of her life.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
In a would you rather over.
Speaker 4 (17:59):
This sum versus being followed by cats?
Speaker 2 (18:02):
Yeah, the rest of my life, I would go for
the Cats.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
It's a tough just end it quickly, deal exactly.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
Forgot about that.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
Speaking of one shot deal, let's talk JJ McCarthy and
the Vikings Minnesota at Seattle minus ten and a half.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
I thought that joke deserved more. That was good.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
That was good, That was a great call.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
The Seahawks big time favorite.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
The one thing that will blow your mind, and yeah,
JJ McCarthy's not playing in this game is from our
friend Danny Heifitz, who noted that of eight hundred and
fifty two qualifying quarterbacks this century, JJ McCarthy was eight
hundred and fifty one in EPA per play, only ahead
of JaMarcus Russell, who had a little bit more of
(18:50):
a sample sized company and was dead last. If you
just boil it down to third round, so that is
your third down rather, that's what's going to blow your mind,
I guess in this game I'm looking for. I truly
am seeing how Max Brosmer looks against maybe the best
defense in football, because there was a lot of love
(19:10):
for Brosmer in the in the preseason, and Kevin O'Connell's
made almost everyone look good at quarterback, and so it'll
be interesting to compare how Brosmer looks versus what we
saw out of JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 4 (19:21):
Almost everyone with one glaring excession.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
I mean, Nick Mullens had some ups and downs. There
definitely were some downs in there.
Speaker 5 (19:28):
Oh, if you like to throw interceptions?
Speaker 1 (19:31):
Yeah, is there a route towards the Vikings with this
defense at least giving them a test?
Speaker 8 (19:38):
Sam Donald through four picks? Okay against the Rams, he
could throw four picks again.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
Does a team that will mix up their looks on him?
Speaker 5 (19:45):
Yeah, I mean there's there is a way. I don't
think he's gonna do it.
Speaker 8 (19:48):
In the fact that he threw four picks and they
were miss field goal away from still beating the Rams
tells me how good of a team Seattle is. But
that's the mind blowers if he comes out those four
picks again and the Vikings find a way to capitalize.
Speaker 7 (20:00):
But also the justin Jefferson, I don't know against Devin Witherspoon,
like that is that's gonna be really tough. I feel
like that's gonna be fun to watch in general, But
it would be really great if there.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
Was an accurate ball, like definitely going justin Jefferson.
Speaker 5 (20:14):
Probably good pump it now. Yeah, we have to see
if you gets it close to it right exactly.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
We'll see.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
And Riekwellen who's been playing well on the outside. He's
having a nice contract year. I'm also curious the Seahawks
running game. Yeah, I mentioned it during that Cardinals game.
Did their whole season turnaround when they had that eighteen
play drive where they just ran the ball and their
running game has been pretty good since then. It was good,
not great, but decent with Kenneth Walker. He had the
(20:41):
highest success rate of any running back in that Rams
Seahawks game. And then last week they really ran the
ball well against the Titans. So this is how you
attack the Vikings is running the ball.
Speaker 6 (20:50):
Yeah, and you have to because of any team I think,
maybe other than the Seahawks, because I think they could
do this too against opponents, but of any other team
in the league right now, Minnesota to is best equipped
to simulate the types of pressure that actually affected Sam
Donald previously, which is a lot of we mentioned it previously,
like the simulated stuff or like these these creepers where
(21:14):
you have an extra pressure player coming up to the
line of scrimmage, and also doing so on different delays
and timing based on where they're at in the cadence
and showing like they're going to come and rush the
quarterback and then dropping quickly and then making yeah, and
then making really cloudy looks when they do drop, and
and it really worries the quarterback. It certainly is worried,
(21:37):
Sam Donald, this is not something you want to see
if you're Max Brosmer, who yes to your point. On
the other side, I think Seattle can get a lot
of good pressure against this Vikings front. It sounds like
Ryan Kelly might be back this week as well, and
they really.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
Need some sarasaw that did not but at the.
Speaker 6 (21:57):
Center, but at the center the center position specific when
you have a guy in Max Brosner coming in and
started making his first start against this, Seattle the best
defense in the NFL right now, and you're going to
potentially be facing all kinds of similar types of funky pressure.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
We should give some background Max Brasban, by the way,
he's a twenty four year old Minnesota product who is
an undrafted rookie here.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
And that coaching sad loves him.
Speaker 5 (22:26):
Yeah, he's one of those guys who.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
He played at New Hampshire for five years before going.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
Oh Greg hates him.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
He's old, so he's got reps, he's got No, it's
more than New Hampshire was Chip Kelly there with him.
Speaker 5 (22:37):
Still like three years younger than bo Nicks.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
Sure, what do you think Mike McDonald is doing right now?
Speaker 4 (22:44):
Just like him and sipping broth and laughing.
Speaker 8 (22:46):
Yeah, him and Leslie Frasier are sitting back there. Let's
not forget less.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
Frasier's yeah, thinking about how he cannot go for it
on fourth and two. I see you, Mike McDonald, the
last conservative coach in the league. I want to see
get Rashid Shaheed in the mix. It's been interesting because
he is on the field a lot. He's in the
backfield sometimes he's getting some carries. He has not been
a part of this offense yet.
Speaker 8 (23:10):
So because yes, EN's just killing right now. I mean
he's just making so many plays.
Speaker 5 (23:13):
You keep going to it.
Speaker 8 (23:14):
But Rahi he will have some timely plays. That's what
he does. I mean, he he's Chris Carter. He only
scores touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
Can't top that.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
That's Steve Wish and uh, that's Colleen Wolf, that's Jordan
rodrig This is the four pack that is going through
each and every game. I like having the clock on.
It just makes you feel a little more alive.
Speaker 4 (23:33):
I'm very aware of it.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
Yes, that's it's good. Let's take a break.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
He's giving notes live on the show.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
We'll come back and uh, we'll break down the rest
of this week thirteen Slate. Yeah, back on NFL Daily.
It's Thanksgiving week and maybe the kids are out of
(24:04):
school because you know how there's a lot of tours
going through and it's usually it's usually adults. Here at
Sofi Stadium. You know, we're right next to it with
the NFL Network studios. There's been a lot of tours
going through, but this morning I noticed it's been all
like kids tours.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
You guys been waving at them.
Speaker 6 (24:21):
Usually don't get a lot of Colleen made a six
to seven joke and crowd, real crowd.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
It was amazing kids, real crowd. Please, I'm not embellishing
this story at all. I was coming into the studio
there was a tour and the woman giving the tour
points to a picture where the man's face is a
little covered. You guys will know who I'm talking about.
Don't give it away here and she says, can any
of you kids like recognize who this is by the eyes?
(24:50):
It's just total silence a bunch of like eight to
ten year olds. And then she goes, I'll give you
a hint. He's dating a twenty four year old. And immediately,
Bill Belichick, you.
Speaker 5 (25:00):
Know what.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
We're gonna be Okay.
Speaker 4 (25:04):
The culture is aware.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
This was like, if you had told me this entire
story a couple years ago, would Belichick still riding high?
Speaker 5 (25:13):
I would not have imagine? Can you imagine like seven
super Bowls?
Speaker 4 (25:20):
That's the clue. That's the clue.
Speaker 3 (25:24):
I never saw the simulation coming.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
I was already past them, and I just started laughing
so hard. I was like, I'm so glad I went
by at that exact moment to her.
Speaker 4 (25:36):
Woman here, who does I catch some of her?
Speaker 5 (25:38):
Like?
Speaker 6 (25:38):
She has great commentary. Sometimes she should do stand up
honestly like she didn't.
Speaker 5 (25:43):
Job. That's where we are.
Speaker 1 (25:46):
Let's talk about one of Bill Belichick's former homes. Yes,
the New York Jets. H there was a moment where
he had to resign as HC of the n y
J on a little piece of paper is breathing.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
He didn't even at times did he just did it?
Speaker 1 (26:03):
Now he's going up against the team where he wanted
the job desperately a couple of years ago, to the
point where his consiglieri Mike Lombardi, has been burying them
ever since for not hiring Bill Belichick.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
It's the Falcons minus two and a half at the Jets, and.
Speaker 8 (26:16):
We're an assistant coach is actually hiring members of staff
until the owner of the Falcons said, yeah, I don't
think we do want you.
Speaker 5 (26:23):
Okay, here's how I'm gonna blow your mind. It's gonna
be cold weather game, right.
Speaker 8 (26:28):
The New York Jets, who only have seven interceptions on
the season, gonna get at least two against kirk O.
Change because Zach Robinson's gonna believe so much in Kirko's
performance against the Saints that he's gonna have him throw
at thirty two plus times. Oh no, oh, yeah, that's
what happens.
Speaker 5 (26:47):
That's what happens with this organization.
Speaker 8 (26:50):
Start feeling really good about their quarterback and they go
go gets everything that analytics and competence will tell them.
Just give it the ball to seven or twenty five,
and it gave like this, But no Kurko chain number eighteen.
He's gonna get him back in the hut. They just
saw Tampa Bay Lows. He just saw Carolina. It's too
we're in the mix. We got a shot, and the
(27:10):
team with only seven picks is going to near double
digits by the time this is over.
Speaker 5 (27:15):
That's the New York Jets.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
There is kind of a path for the Falcons for
how bad this division is and the schedule. I don't
believe it, but we tried to make a case for
a Dolphins path that's not happening no matter how many
games the Falcons that division like N eight wins, good.
Speaker 6 (27:31):
Winning bucks sliding the way that they have been. Absolutely
that there is a path for the Falcons. You know, Steve,
what might make them sleep at night with the consequences
of their own actions, which I.
Speaker 4 (27:41):
Fully believe will happen.
Speaker 6 (27:42):
Just like what you're saying is that they're like, Okay,
we got everyone to shut up already about the pistol
formation we're putting. We got under center, which for all
of three plays and also in the gun, which he
was in the vast majority of his his snaps that
he did get only in the pistol seven times and
so I think that that sort of shift, maybe you're
(28:04):
listening to your quarterback a little bit more of It's
a similar, I guess, a spacing alignment, and it similarly
does not unlike the pistol, it does not give you
the benefit of just a built in run fake that
could happen.
Speaker 4 (28:17):
So those are the negatives. But clearly Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 6 (28:20):
Was more comfortable in a different alignment than what they
sort of had forced this offense into in a box
for the last several weeks.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
You played pretty well.
Speaker 7 (28:28):
Yeah, where's Drake the London in terms of his so
early in the week there was some reporting that they're
going to be conservative with him, which so that does
not sound good.
Speaker 1 (28:38):
And I think it's a sneaky big game for their
front office, for their coaching staff. Every every game is big,
but losing to the Jets, which is very possible because
I think the Jets are playing better and I think
play well. Yeah, Aaron Glenn and Tanner engstro and I
think they do have something. They've been talking all year
about that Lion season where you start out so slow
(28:59):
and at the end of the year they started playing better.
I think they're having a version of that here, and
they need some wins to to buttress that argument. I
think this could you know, they could win this game.
Speaker 8 (29:08):
Yeah, And if the Falcons lose this game, I mean
I'm telling you, I know the owner, well, the second
half of seasons, if there's a slide, he pays incredible
attention to that because that's where he's like, there's film
on us. If you're not adjusting to it, if you're
not fixing the things that we're supposed to fix, that's that.
So maybe getting under center helps them. But I just
have a feeling they're gonna have.
Speaker 5 (29:27):
Kerkco change trying to throw this ball, yeah, all over
the field.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
In like a windy, cold stadium.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
The Jets are going to win them.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
Yeah, Oh that's what I'm I think they can.
Speaker 6 (29:37):
And then I think that to your you guys point,
that has I think catastrophic consequences for the staff and
the yes to the front office. Oh yeah, oh, because
I mean you're starting to see when the narrative shifts
and sort of these spotlight columns start circling around, you know,
the the NFL conversation and columnsts like Mike Sando that
(29:59):
every owner in the league reads talking about malpractice at
quarterback and what's the next team that's gonna falcon in this.
Speaker 4 (30:06):
Way like that.
Speaker 6 (30:07):
That's a big deal to these owners who are paying attention.
Speaker 8 (30:10):
And for the first time since seriously, like two thousand
and six, they've got a defense with a pass rush.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
I can't believe it.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
I know at what cost?
Speaker 8 (30:19):
Right That's that's been the supposed one Achilles heel, and
now the offense can't score.
Speaker 4 (30:24):
The pendulum swings balance in the universe.
Speaker 7 (30:27):
Like Vic Beasley was the last power rush that I'd
like done anything.
Speaker 5 (30:32):
I'd like to skip over that here and go back.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
To Johnny don Abraham. He was the guy for the
Falcons and the Jets. You know, there could be a scenario.
I saw Josina Anderson putting out there that teams are
interested in Belichick, which I don't totally buy, but if
there was one that would take the meeting. No way,
speaking of long shots.
Speaker 5 (30:51):
They're not bringing that into them.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
How about I've been back in Carson Swessner all year
for Defensive Rick of the Year.
Speaker 2 (30:56):
Now he's a heavy, heavy favorite.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
I do think he's gonna win that award, But I
think if there was like a dark horse could Jalen
Walker over the last six weeks, come on strong. He's
up to like five or six secs and he just
looks good. He'd have to go on a monster tear.
Speaker 5 (31:09):
James Pearce might be playing better than him. Rush.
Speaker 6 (31:12):
That's the thing that is just such a killer about
the narrative of this Falcon season is everything is going
so wrong elsewhere. Their plan worked for bookending these two
draft picks together. They're playing in such chemistry.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
It didn't work giving away their first round, the Rips
to first round and the Super.
Speaker 4 (31:31):
I mean, it's working out.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
It's okay, it's okay, it's gonna work out. For that,
it's the next people that work there.
Speaker 4 (31:39):
Certainly, I'm not thinking about that.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
Colleen.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
We've we've got some of the lesser games in this block.
But you've got a banger. No, you've got a banger.
It's the Bills. It's the Steelers. It's in Pittsburgh, and
the Bills are favored by three and a half.
Speaker 7 (31:54):
Okay, So here is my mind blowing thing that's going
to happen. Danny Smith, who is the Steelers special teams coordinator,
he will need extra strength, tile and all for his jaw,
pain after chewing gum so furiously through the fourth quarter,
but that will be secondary to the joy he experiences
(32:14):
after a Pittsburgh special teams player scores the deciding touchdown
on a blocked kick return.
Speaker 6 (32:20):
Wow, Okay, I'm no it could be.
Speaker 2 (32:26):
However it I do.
Speaker 4 (32:28):
Love this because they've they've got some juice.
Speaker 3 (32:31):
Right they do their defense and special team.
Speaker 6 (32:34):
Wait does he what did they say their kicker is
a serial killer? That Mike Tomlin said that earlier this year.
Boswell I said, kiker is a serial killer.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
You know what.
Speaker 7 (32:43):
That's effective obviously, but we saw how the offensive line
too for the Bills, completely struggled. And yes, that's part
of that is because the Texans defense is so so good.
But they got to Josh Allen so many times. And
this Steelers team, TJ. Watt and the pass rush, like
(33:05):
if they just saw what the Texans did on film.
They can do some things. They're a little erratic with
it the way that they can get home, but TJ.
Watt is a constant, So I think that they're going
to be able to rattle Josh Allen a little bit.
I would assume that it's like, on one hand, you
could think Josh Allen's coming off this game where he
wants to come out and just like completely turn the
page and ball out. But is that could that be
(33:27):
in his head as well? Now going into this game
because of the matchup.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
Well, he's not used to that offensive line struggling, that's
all here.
Speaker 8 (33:34):
You know why it struggled because the receivers couldn't get open.
He had to hold the ball like the Texans did
not fear the Bills wide receivers one bit.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
Well, you know who's gonna maybe help that, but probably not.
The Bills have signed Brandon Running Cooks.
Speaker 5 (33:49):
How about that he's back? Oh yeah, doesn't he played
there before?
Speaker 2 (33:52):
That was the contender. I don't believe.
Speaker 3 (33:55):
I'm pretty sure he has.
Speaker 2 (33:56):
We have to believe.
Speaker 1 (33:57):
I remember Brandon Cooks in Buffalo. Mean things bounced around.
Speaker 8 (34:01):
When you have when you have a receiver who can
take the top off of a defense, that concerns any
defensive coordinator.
Speaker 5 (34:07):
If one thing Brandon Cooks can do.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
Is he can go deep, we'll see.
Speaker 1 (34:10):
I mean, this is an old version of Brandon Cooks
that that you're talking about.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
I mean this is an older.
Speaker 6 (34:16):
So New England, similar geographic location.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
But yeah, that was you did have a moment.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
Patriots, Rams, Saints.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
Texans were in there, Cowboys were in there right.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
Before. Yeah, it's it's it's wild. These teams have struggled.
The Bills are three and four in their last seven games.
The Steelers are two and four, and just big picture,
it's kind of like, especially for the Bills, like how
low we are we going to go here in this season?
Is it going to be like we're just fighting to
make the playoffs or is it gonna be we can
actually take this division still because we're only two back
(34:49):
of the there are and they play him again.
Speaker 5 (34:51):
I will tell you this. After a Texans game, I
spoke to somebody in their front office.
Speaker 8 (34:54):
And they are concerned, Yeah, like we have to just
get into the playoffs now because they see how New
England schedule lays out. They're going to Week fourteen by
and they understand that they are not playing well in Buffalo.
They're beat up and this wide receiver I love the
scheme is an issue.
Speaker 6 (35:12):
Well, yeah, because the comments to the opposite were so
strong all off season and have been for a couple
of off seasons about not needing to go, but then
the actions that they're taking behind the scenes show the
opposite trying to trade for names and that kind of thing. Okay,
you guys, tell me if I'm crazy, because this might
be a little crazy. But is this for both teams
(35:34):
kind of a sneaky hot seat game at various levels
of the organization and certainly coaching stuff.
Speaker 8 (35:38):
That's sneaky about it. Maybe not the game itself, but
if it sends one of them torpedoing.
Speaker 2 (35:42):
Absolutely, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (35:44):
There's enough left obviously in the season for both these
teams after this game, but yeah, they are two of
the best coaches and the best organizations that it's fair
to wonder, like, hmm, if you don't end up in
the playoffs this year, could there be a change?
Speaker 2 (35:58):
I think in Buffalo.
Speaker 6 (36:01):
Yeah, and I'm curious to what's keyon Coleman's status, Like
do we know if he's going to.
Speaker 5 (36:05):
Do that matter field? Does it matter?
Speaker 4 (36:07):
That's a good question.
Speaker 6 (36:08):
That's a good question because he's clearly not doing the
things that they drafted him to do, but then also
missing reportedly missing meetings and those types of.
Speaker 5 (36:17):
Even if he's on the field, does it matter.
Speaker 1 (36:20):
I think that's what they would have had him active
if they thought it was last week again.
Speaker 8 (36:24):
The teams go into games. Oh boy, we gotta shut
down Keyon Coleman. I don't think it matters.
Speaker 6 (36:28):
I did notice in this last broadcast, and sometimes I
look for like sideline dynamics between people and teammates. I
noticed that he was sort of like attached at the
hip with whoever with the quarterback operation, and also like
whoever had the the mics. It was trying to warm
up Josh Allen between snaps and was really trying to
get you know, he seemed very like, I am I
(36:48):
need to show at you guys on the sideline that
I am engaged in this, and I think that's good.
But at the same time, to your point, if he
was making a difference, he would have been on the field.
Speaker 3 (36:58):
Yes, what was he so busy doing in Buffalo?
Speaker 4 (37:01):
Like I mean, hopefully I love.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
Buffalo right now, but like coming for Colleen, they know
I love them.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
I hear you.
Speaker 1 (37:13):
If you're gonna, if you're gonna like be out late
one night or whatever, make it in Miami or.
Speaker 6 (37:20):
Vegas or Vegas which has happened, you will find, no, you.
Speaker 8 (37:25):
Will find the cities where there's a lot to do
is where the players get into the least trouble.
Speaker 5 (37:29):
It's where there's not a lot that either gets covered up.
Speaker 1 (37:32):
You got it, you gotta do it, or gets exposed.
One of your favorite cities, Miami, let's go there. Let's
talk Saints Falcons, the I mean Saints Dolphins. The Dolphins
are six point favorites. The fact that the Dolphins are
favored by six points over an NFL team is why
(37:56):
GAYL Benson was wrong. It is not ridiculous to can
sit or firing Mickey Loomis. I mean, give me a
freaking break. Your organization is this low. That's not the
mind blowing thing, but it's kind of blowing my mind.
Here's one thing that blew my mind from the Saints
game last week. They had two running backs active for
that game. One of them got hurt right away. Shouldn't
(38:18):
be that shocking, Alvin Kamara. So the other one just
had to play the whole game. Devin Neil. And this
is like the type of stuff that I'm seeing determined
with Kellen Moore, where Kellen Moore is skating a little
bit and just all of it is bad. I think
you were gonna need a real transformative coach to change
and positively impact a tough situation there, and so far
(38:41):
he has not been that.
Speaker 5 (38:42):
I mean, come on, you can't judge Kelly.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
I can, I can. He is about he knew.
Speaker 8 (38:48):
Coming in that they were not going to be very
good once Derek Carr retire.
Speaker 2 (38:52):
Yeah, but still show me something. Just show me a
little something. What are you all about?
Speaker 1 (38:57):
What are you He's given me Pat shermer Vies, which
is that we'll forget that he ever was a head
coach like five wo wow.
Speaker 5 (39:06):
I think that's a rough one right there.
Speaker 4 (39:08):
Sorry, I think that when you need.
Speaker 8 (39:10):
Eight it's really the Mickey Loomis thing that I thought
you were gonna say Mickey Loomis because they brought in
Justin Tucker for a workout, but you just.
Speaker 2 (39:16):
Wanted that too. Let's let's talk that.
Speaker 4 (39:22):
Throwing me right into it.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
You take anyone, I'm happy to talk that.
Speaker 6 (39:25):
You know what I honestly, when you are an NFL
head coach and you are going to a building where
there needs to not just be a cultural roster overhaul,
a cultural overhaul, you take this job and you are
supposed to be about something. You are supposed to emanate
(39:49):
a palpable The kids will call it aura. You're supposed
to tone set and be the thermostat of that building, and when
you waffle around in front of your local media instead,
just similarly to waffling around with some of these like
cutesy play calls and some of these types of things.
And you're waffling talking about a person who was accused
(40:10):
of sexual misconduct to the point where he was suspended
by the league after the league's investigation for ten games,
and you're calling it some stuff. You are not showing
me the type of personality convicted leadership. You can have
whatever opinion and background and say you are not speaking
with any sort of conviction. Your fan base is listening
(40:32):
to you. One in four women who have been sexually
assaulted are listening to you. Show me some culture, Show
me something in that building. I haven't seen it. I
didn't see it yesterday. I'm noticing. Yeah, I did not
see it this week and I have not seen it all.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
So that was him who said that I saw he's
been on there's one thing of him in front of
a podium.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (40:51):
That The quote here is he was asked about the
Justin Tucker tryout, and they ultimately decided not to sign
Justin Tucker. But the quote from Kellen Moore was he's
been one of their leaders talking about Tucker for an
extended period of time on a very successful team. Obviously
there's been some stuff that's been unfortunate. He's gone through
an experience, he said, He's gone through an experience, and
(41:15):
I think it's about collecting what that experience was, and
I think it's part of a pattern with more to
Jordan's point.
Speaker 2 (41:22):
Of not being ready for a moment. Well, now, correct,
that's my overall point.
Speaker 6 (41:26):
So that's my overall point is not being prepared as
the person who is the face of the team, hired
to be the face of the team, to not be
prepared for the moment. Now you have to hedge if
especially if there's legal stuff involved. I understand all the
context and the nuance of what this situation was, but
you must be prepared to lead in moments where you
(41:47):
are being watched and I am noticing.
Speaker 7 (41:50):
And that's the job of a coach is to plan
ahead for any possible situation, any fires that could happen.
Speaker 3 (41:57):
You need to.
Speaker 7 (41:57):
I'm talking about game planning. That's what you do as
a head coach. You even visualize the different scenarios and
then you plan for them. So if you're not getting
the assignment right with these questions something that absolutely would
have been asked. When you know that this person has
come in and you're not prepared for it, that kind
of speaks to me about the overall operation too.
Speaker 1 (42:17):
And from the top down, because the defense of the
Mickey loomis that you shouldn't even consider firing him. In
part this interview she had with Jeff Duncan, she cited
multiple things. She cited the Luke Fortner trade if you're
not familiar, a center from the Jaguars that the Mickey
Loomis did a good job acquiring this year. She also
cited the hiring of Sean Payne and Drew Brees. It's
(42:38):
like that's a long time ago, I think if that's
what you're citing here, it's just it's from the top down.
Speaker 8 (42:44):
Well, to get back to the to the previous point though,
besides the head coach being prepared organizationally, you got a
buffer your coach. It's not just the head coach. Now again,
Sean Payne telling the other head coaches would.
Speaker 5 (42:55):
Not have gone there.
Speaker 8 (42:56):
They would at the very worst, said I don't bring
players into try out. Talk to the general manager about that.
But otherwise I think it's been like, look, we brought
him in here, he's no a lot, he's not going
to be on our team and leave it at that.
To try and justify any way things like that, the
way he did is not very good. So it's a
very strong point by you, Jordan, by just saying like
(43:16):
there hasn't been significant leadership. But what that also tells
me about the way he's coached this year and behave
this year is he feels very comfortable he's going to
be there for a while because they know this roster
is going to get absolutely cleansed.
Speaker 1 (43:27):
After this m and yet they they're the latest team
that the Dolphins are favored over. And yes, the Dolphins
will be favored in a couple of games with a
chance to get to six and seven.
Speaker 5 (43:37):
Play a little better.
Speaker 2 (43:38):
So good luck. There you go, Colleen's favorite everyone.
Speaker 1 (43:42):
Check out her clip where she essentially did how are
you how do you do?
Speaker 2 (43:48):
Fellow kids for a few minutes on NFL Network.
Speaker 7 (43:51):
List I just you know, I just explained six to
seven through the lens of football and the NFL and
why it mattered this specific past week.
Speaker 1 (43:59):
My son loved it and wanted to personally tell you
how much he enjoyed it. It's time for the Sunday
Drive presented by Toyota. Let's go Places Commanders. Coming off
that game overseas in the bye week, they are at
home for the Broncos. The Broncos are favored by six
and a half. Jane Daniels is practicing this week, but
(44:22):
is not expected to play.
Speaker 2 (44:23):
According to dan U, no way they are playing.
Speaker 4 (44:26):
Yeah, not against the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (44:28):
Man Sari Marcus.
Speaker 6 (44:30):
I will say I'm getting a good theme though, because
Greg's given me great defensive games too, Like I love
watching Vance Joseph's defense. I think this is one of
the most fun groups in the league to watch. The
one big thing that I'm watching, or the thing that
I hope blows all of our minds, is the return
potentially of Pat certain And you know, he's been out
for a while, and Riley Moss has probably been the
(44:50):
most penalized corner in the entire league and trying to
just like you know, fight and die on every snap
to try to just contain and the penalties have cost
them were This is still one of the better defenses
and certainly is defending the explosive pass really well and
statistically is still among the top in limiting points and
is not one of the top success rate secondaries in
(45:13):
the NFL. They do get one or two of these
costly penalties per game that puts them in a very
parious position, and so I think that that's my one
big thing. My big colleague in Denver, Nick Cosmider, thinks
that Pat certain will return this week. Obviously, it's been
a situation where he's going from week to week to
day to day and making getting ready to make his return.
(45:36):
But that is my major moment that could either blow
our minds or there's going to be a penalty somewhere
that will also blow our minds.
Speaker 1 (45:45):
And the Commander's offense should get Terry McLaurin back. It
sounds like finally this week, and they've been up for
the challenge Mariota. Considering the injuries, they're a totally respectable offense.
The problem is, like an average offense against this defense
is is a mismatch, and then on the other side,
every offense looks awesome against the Commanders and bo Nicks
I think has played better as the season of warn On.
(46:07):
He's coming off of bye week, he's coming off what
I thought was his best performance of the season against
the Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (46:12):
So you just want.
Speaker 1 (46:13):
Them with a real chance to get the one seed
here at some point down the stretch. If they can
play consistently on offense, well.
Speaker 8 (46:20):
They're gonna be able to run the ball too. I mean,
the one thing you know, dan Quinn couldn't fix is
their edge. Their perimeter defense is just I don't understand
why it's so undisciplined.
Speaker 5 (46:32):
We saw, like the Bears game. You think about that
Monday night game, but.
Speaker 8 (46:35):
This off tackle off tackle, sweet, they're just gallating. Dan
Quinn takes over the play called same thing happens so undisciplined.
They decided when they built their front this year, we're
gonna build it to stop teams on first down. Right,
We're not gonna nessarly get an edge guy to be
able to hold the edge and lock guys up or
get a pass pressure presence.
Speaker 5 (46:54):
And it has not worked.
Speaker 8 (46:55):
Well for them, you know, especially because they're linebackers. They're
playing our guy Frankie louvill Louvu out of position, right,
he's playing more on the outside the teams know he's
so aggressive, We're going to use his aggressiveness against him,
and so that's what Sean Payton's going to They're probably
gonna screen him the death.
Speaker 5 (47:10):
Again, Sean Payton loves the screen game more than Andy Reid.
Speaker 8 (47:13):
But do some stuff like that and they're gonna run
the ball and it's it's so well, I'm interese if
Denver's offense can finally get on track.
Speaker 5 (47:20):
Yeah, this is a game, especially.
Speaker 8 (47:21):
Running the ball and with Boennick's dual with thread ability
to where they can really get into a rhythm to
get things going down the stretch.
Speaker 7 (47:28):
Well, especially if the secondary for the Commanders, they're banged
up right now. I don't know what the where the
injury report is going to be by the end of
the week, but I mean, Marshaun Lattimore Tree amos like
this is a spot where Bonicks.
Speaker 3 (47:42):
Should be able to show.
Speaker 7 (47:44):
Everyone that he can get into a rhythm, like this
is a nice spot for him, and if he doesn't
show that then that's kind of a concern.
Speaker 1 (47:50):
And either are two quarterbacks at least the last time
they played were like nails on third and lock Mariota
is amazing and Matrade on third lock and Nicks was
pretty great against the Broncos. I think that was an
important game for him. One thing we haven't hit on
the show though, is like Jacob Dobbins is not coming
back for this Broncos season, and I do think that's
an important part of their team. And I am curious,
(48:11):
if you know, RGI Harvey, like can their running game
be consistent enough, because you kind of think bo Nicks
needs a running game.
Speaker 6 (48:17):
One percent think that he needs a running game, and
I think that steadies him because he can be really
erratic sometimes to quarter to quarter and I'd like to
see a complete game from him.
Speaker 2 (48:26):
I think we got one, by the way. I do
think that Chiefs game.
Speaker 6 (48:28):
Was a yeah, that Mails that was his by far
his best game of the season and really impressive building block,
especially time the timing of it when it happened.
Speaker 3 (48:37):
R J.
Speaker 6 (48:38):
Harvey, it is curious a lot of teams will come out,
you know, out of the buy and they'll really show
what they've decided they're going to be for the rest
of the season, and it has to be r J.
Speaker 5 (48:46):
Harvey.
Speaker 6 (48:46):
This offensive line is really slept on. I think is
one of the best in football. So you have the
tools there. You have a quarterback who obviously is comfortable
with deploying and settled within a run game. Uh design
and run game right, and also can move a little
bit too to help set things up against the defense.
And so I think that this has to be what
(49:07):
have you built around and through?
Speaker 7 (49:09):
R J.
Speaker 6 (49:09):
Harvey, a guy who Sean Payton was super high on
has remained super high on. Now let's see what you
can buy.
Speaker 8 (49:15):
And I think Harvey's gonna be fine. People say, like,
he's not the biggest dude, he ate the smallest dude either.
Speaker 5 (49:19):
He's gonna be fine.
Speaker 7 (49:20):
Yeah, John Payton was Sean Payton loves a small run
about like he loves a shortcake.
Speaker 6 (49:28):
R J.
Speaker 1 (49:28):
Harvey not the biggest dude, but not the smallest dude.
Speaker 2 (49:32):
I love that.
Speaker 1 (49:33):
Let's take one more break and we will wrap up
the Week thirteen slate and just a few It's a
spicy Monday night, or despite the records.
Speaker 2 (49:44):
It is. That was the Sunday Drive presented by Toyota.
Let's Go Places.

Back on NFL Daily, four more games until we release you.
And so the Thanksgiving fields, actually, Colleen's got to be
here Thanksgiving morning. You're right, I don't know what those
fields are anyways. You must have played some some Thanksgiving
games back in the day high school football.
Speaker 5 (50:43):
No, oh, we never. We never had a Turkey Day game.
We knew we didn't have arrival, we didn't have a rival.
Speaker 2 (50:48):
Interesting game.
Speaker 6 (50:49):
Huh.
Speaker 8 (50:50):
I was only the eighth graduating class high school back
in Manchester, Missouri, where it was so out in the
middle of nowhere.
Speaker 5 (50:56):
We didn't even have lights. We played our games on
Saturday afternoon.
Speaker 2 (50:58):
That is wild.
Speaker 5 (51:00):
How about that not quite eight man football?
Speaker 1 (51:02):
I do remember like a snowy thanks Giving, like a
snow where we all went out and played, you know,
played football in the snow.
Speaker 4 (51:08):
Yeah, same level of skill. I'm sure.
Speaker 1 (51:10):
Yeah, Steve's no, I'm saying that that's what it's for.
Look the Giants, they've had a bad season, but they
have come together the last few weeks on offense and
been fun to watch. And I've got the Giants Patriots.
The Patriots are favored by seven and a half. I've
noticed that number has gone significantly down, which makes sense
(51:33):
to me.
Speaker 2 (51:33):
I think it started at like ten or something crazy
like that.
Speaker 1 (51:37):
Here's a statup that'll blow your mind about the Patriots.
I've actually got two the Patriots and this is from
Tom Kerr and listening to his podcast, and he went
through all the numbers and I'm boiling it down. They're
almost as likely to concert convert a third and ten
through fifteen this season as they are to convert a
third and one or two.
Speaker 2 (51:56):
That's how good Drake may has been on third and long.
Speaker 1 (51:58):
And how bad they have been running the They've been
a terrible running team, by the way, all year. It's
slipped under their track. Here's another one for you, and
this is about how teams change during the season.
Speaker 2 (52:08):
Run defense.
Speaker 1 (52:09):
Everyone's talking about, Oh the run defense, great, their run
defense great last three weeks, not against the greatest teams
in the world, included the Jets and the Bengals. They
are dead last in the league in success rate allowed
in terms of their running games. So can the Patriots
be good enough upfront on both sides of the ball
to win this game? Forget about even before that. I
(52:30):
think to win this game because you know, what the
Giants have is a dangerous defensive line and a really
good offensive line. It's actually, I think a top ten
offensive line despite their record.
Speaker 2 (52:39):
I think it's a tough matchup.
Speaker 5 (52:40):
Their defensive line just get gosh.
Speaker 1 (52:43):
They stink against the run, but a lot of talent
they do. But that's weakness on weakness. They're one of
the worst run defenses ever. But you can't say a
defensive line with Dexter, Lawrence and Carter and Burns are
a weakness at least against the pass.
Speaker 2 (52:56):
Yeah, okay, it's against.
Speaker 5 (52:58):
The that's fair hundred plus they get moved.
Speaker 2 (53:01):
I'm just saying this is an opportunity here for the Giant.
Speaker 5 (53:04):
It is an opportunity.
Speaker 2 (53:05):
It's their super Bowl.
Speaker 8 (53:06):
Jackson Dark could be back, but we don't want to
see Jackson Dark. We want to see Jamis.
Speaker 2 (53:10):
It's true, he's so fun.
Speaker 5 (53:11):
We want to look this is This is why.
Speaker 8 (53:15):
I think that's an interesting point because I've said for
New England their toughest thing is winning the games that
now they're supposed to win, so to speak, because they've
got the Week fourteen by, like just survive until you
get there, and I think that's where they are.
Speaker 5 (53:30):
I think a little bit.
Speaker 8 (53:32):
Yeah, I like that Week fourteen Bye is a killer man.
You see so many of these teams with the Week
fourteen by thinks the forty nine ers on a Week
fourteen by, which is why Christian McCaffrey having eight hundred
touches already is insane before getting a breather. How well
he's taking care of himself. But if they can get
to the buy and get a win here, however they
get it, you know, takeaways, whatever however they get it,
(53:54):
they are set up very nicely to not only get
into the playoffs, but to win the division, have the
one seeds to playoffs, going back.
Speaker 5 (54:00):
Through Foxborough and then being able to make some noise.
Speaker 1 (54:05):
But here's the thing I guess I'm worried about more
long term. They could have Will Campbell their left tackle
and Jared Wilson their left guard back this season, but
it sounds like the two of them are going to
be out, you know, at least a multiple games.
Speaker 2 (54:17):
Campbell might go.
Speaker 5 (54:18):
The E fourteen might be a blessing.
Speaker 1 (54:21):
And they haven't had injuries and Wilton Milton Williams, they
have not had the same run defense according to those
stats or pass rush four man pass rush since Milton
Williams got hurt.
Speaker 4 (54:31):
Yeah, well, oh your guy. Well, they're all your guys.
Speaker 2 (54:35):
I was like, is he I love him? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (54:37):
Everyone everyone.
Speaker 2 (54:40):
Right.
Speaker 6 (54:41):
No, I think that on the show in previous years,
you guys used to always talk about like burserker teams
and like who could be potentially so dangerous when you
get into the postseason, and the Patriots, to me, are
are that team?
Speaker 3 (54:53):
Like like you guys have I.
Speaker 1 (54:54):
Thought you're going to say the Giants kind of late
this season, no pop up and win a game like this,
but they almost they should have last.
Speaker 6 (55:00):
The Giants are a sinking ship in the sense that
people keep getting thrown off the side to try to
lighten the.
Speaker 4 (55:07):
Load a little bit, or we stopped the.
Speaker 6 (55:11):
Yeah, and so we have to remember, like Mike Kofka, is,
and rightfully so he should be doing this is just
going to go out and try stuff and put good
tape out there, and he should That's absolutely what he
should be doing, and trying to figure out how to
maximize what he does have and who he still has
on this roster. The problem is a team like New
England did not necessarily expect to be here this early
(55:33):
in their rebuild process. But they have the quarterback and
they built the overall, they made some really good decisions
to not only shed previous players but also bring in,
whether by financially or by draft, a new wave, a
new era of culture for Mike Vrabel and roster talent.
And I think that when you are earlier than expected
now you shift into take care of the people you're
(55:56):
supposed to take care of. And that's a very business
like thing. Rabel's been through it. For I fully expect
that kind of a game from the Patriots.
Speaker 7 (56:03):
Yeah, I look at just the Patriots offensive line though,
Like for me, it's just all about the Patriots offensive
line and this Giant's pass rush that how that kind
of pans out. But then also if the Patriots they're
running backs, if they can be effective in this game
because of what we were just talking about with the
Giants porous run defense.
Speaker 3 (56:22):
Like I don't know, I just.
Speaker 8 (56:25):
Say, Patriots all beat themselves. I mean they've gone back
to being that team where they're so sound in every aspect.
Regardless of how beat up they are, they're going to
give themselves a shot.
Speaker 1 (56:33):
Yeah, they have passed all these tests all year against
the inferior teams. By the way, just because we missed
it and I was watching that Giants game on Monday
and it was just so much fun. Let's just watch
one more Jamis Winston. I'm officially nominating this throw because
we didn't mention it. It was the third and thirteen
(56:54):
throw late in the game, up three, third and seventeen
rather where he gets out of the sack, points to
the receiver and drops a dime down the field to
THEO Johnson as a Throw of the Year nominee, just
to have Jamison.
Speaker 5 (57:07):
Shit did get take the hit, bump into his lineman
and then rips it. This is arm. He didn't step
into that. He rips that too many.
Speaker 1 (57:15):
They outplayed the Lions if it wasn't for the craziest
fifty nine yard field goal which started in then went
out and somehow went back in. It was like an
you know, I don't know what the heck happened, and
they lost.
Speaker 4 (57:28):
It entered a portal.
Speaker 3 (57:29):
It reminded me of like a baseball pitch.
Speaker 4 (57:31):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, amazing.
Speaker 1 (57:33):
Yeah, let's get back on check. I apologize I had
forgotten about that wins thing.
Speaker 2 (57:38):
Weis.
Speaker 1 (57:39):
We got the Chargers, we got the Raiders, the Chargers
producer favored by ten.
Speaker 5 (57:44):
Who are you ready?
Speaker 8 (57:45):
The Los Angeles I'm sorry, the Los Angeles Chargers. It
gets the Las Vegas Raiders. The Chargers will hold those
awesome now offensive coordinator list Raiders to fewer than one
hundred and seven five total yards.
Speaker 5 (58:02):
I like this.
Speaker 8 (58:04):
Okay, so now greg Olsen, okay, got plenty of the
dude is the ultimate survivor.
Speaker 5 (58:08):
Man.
Speaker 8 (58:08):
This guy's coach for not the broadcaster. Not the broadcaster
is going to be calling the plays. Doesn't matter, does
not matter. The charges are coming off of Bye, They've
got an incredible defense. Twuly two, yep below two who
were not talking about it's got eight sacks. Liil Mack
has been dominant when he's now that he's back healthy,
(58:29):
and the Raiders offensive line is the worst offensive line
hype scene. They are in they are in turnstyle protection.
They're in turnstyle run blocking mode. Like Austin Janti, who
I'm a little more luke warmond than a lot of people,
has not had an opportunity to run the ball because
he's getting the offensive line reset. Gino smith Is is
(58:52):
shell shocked as I've ever seen a veteran quarterback be
because he's getting knocked around and with the smoke that
the Chargers are going to bring in this game on him,
they're going to heat him up because he's got no receivers.
Speaker 2 (59:03):
It's Steve.
Speaker 1 (59:03):
Wouldn't you say the offensive lineup maybe any position group
on the team is like it's as it's the most important.
Speaker 2 (59:11):
How well they're coached? Yes, and who is their coach?
Speaker 5 (59:14):
Speak? Girl's son is the offensive line coach? He survived.
Speaker 2 (59:19):
Case wow at.
Speaker 8 (59:22):
Least a week eighteen, because I do think there's gonna
be some significant changes there.
Speaker 2 (59:25):
Yeah, he's no dope. You can't fire your son that
Some things in life are more important.
Speaker 3 (59:30):
Not before the holidays.
Speaker 1 (59:31):
I'm just saying, if he's going to get fired anyways,
you don't fire your son. You know, if your pete Cara,
You'd much rather just get fired than fire your son.
You got the rest of your life to worry.
Speaker 6 (59:41):
He has been distancing himself like his own participation in
the offense since the second week of the season, when
he's up at the lectern talking about how surprised he.
Speaker 5 (59:51):
Is every week though, and also and also how we.
Speaker 6 (59:55):
Have to run the ball more and I'm not sure
why we're not running the ball more, and we need
to do this, and very pointed commentary.
Speaker 4 (01:00:01):
You can't separate yourself from someone you.
Speaker 5 (01:00:03):
Share DNA with.
Speaker 3 (01:00:05):
It's part of the problem. Come on, But I don't
know why he's so.
Speaker 7 (01:00:08):
He's saying that he's surprised is actually sounding way worse,
like Yes, even if you are surprised, don't tell anyone.
Speaker 5 (01:00:15):
That a halftime interview defense is a play, are you well?
Speaker 2 (01:00:25):
I think they thought they would be competitive this year.
Speaker 5 (01:00:27):
We I thought they would be competitive.
Speaker 2 (01:00:29):
We fell for it somewhat.
Speaker 4 (01:00:31):
I thought this offense would be way better than it is.
Speaker 1 (01:00:34):
And this is a tough match up because the Chargers
have had a trend this year. They have played with
their hair on fire at home. Everyone gets on the Chargers'
home crowd, and they have not been as good on
the road at all. They haven't really shown up for
these East Coast trips. Well this is coming off of
buye at home.
Speaker 5 (01:00:48):
They w l A is kind of a home game
too though.
Speaker 2 (01:00:51):
I mean sure, but just just getting on a plane
has been bad for them for whatever reason.
Speaker 6 (01:00:55):
And you know what, I was there in Vegas for
that early matchup between two teams, and I will say
that that was some of the best defensive football I've
seen all year. And yes we knew, we did not
know at the time just how bad this Raiders offense
was going to be. But the way that those Chargers
defenders sat in their zones and Gino Smith was like
(01:01:16):
pressing way too hard to try to make a big
play happen.
Speaker 4 (01:01:19):
And the entire Diane.
Speaker 6 (01:01:20):
Henley had an insane flu game and like the entire
talk of the locker rooms after was like you play
this type of zone against Gino right now? Because the
black Bowers wasn't on the field, and then there what
he was but one legged right, and then there was
like the other receivers had not emerged and he was
just pressing it and Jant wasn't running the ball. So
(01:01:41):
it's all the same problems, so I expect the same outcome.
Speaker 3 (01:01:45):
Do you guys remember when Gino Smith was on Quarterback Island, we.
Speaker 2 (01:01:48):
Do one minute we do? He finished last year Hurts
did not get ripped tid I've got it and get ripped.
Speaker 6 (01:01:55):
He did get ripped tided on and it was referred
to as a ripcord incorrectly.
Speaker 1 (01:01:59):
And also the rule was all shout out to all
of us who are getting royalties. The Quarterback Island season two,
episode three has gone down as one of the most
listened to shows we've ever had daily, so the bonus
checks they're coming soon.
Speaker 3 (01:02:17):
Crowd my god.
Speaker 1 (01:02:19):
Also our producer Drew in addition to our producer Eric,
we got multiple producers today. But he's a Raiders fan
by gret Yeah, well he's the only one with a mic.
Drew points out, one hundred and seventy five yards would
not be a season low for the Raiders. They had
a ninety five yards against the Chiefs.
Speaker 9 (01:02:37):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:02:38):
That was the game where I said they should call
their offense that I don't even want to be around
here anymore.
Speaker 5 (01:02:43):
The offense, I.
Speaker 8 (01:02:44):
Mean that means there's like a lot of sacks they got.
What do you got sacked ten times. I just hate
to say they might get double duty.
Speaker 3 (01:02:51):
Show a look on Gino's face.
Speaker 7 (01:02:52):
It's like a ten thousand yard stare and the camera
they go real tight on his face, and it's just like,
I don't I he needs a hut.
Speaker 1 (01:03:01):
I need Gino as like as like the backup. I
need it, like the backup to Jared Goff next here.
Just put him like on a good organization where he's
a clear backup and finish out the career that way.
Speaker 2 (01:03:12):
He is getting up there. I think thirty six this year.
Speaker 1 (01:03:15):
Jordan Jacksonville favored six and a half point favorites in Tennessee,
where Cam Worden's coming off a good game.
Speaker 4 (01:03:24):
Yeah, one thing that will blow your mind. It's more
of a fact.
Speaker 2 (01:03:28):
Right.
Speaker 6 (01:03:29):
It's nineteen seventy seven deep in the Nordic country of Finland.
The snowfalls, but the athletes must train. The members of
the Finnish national cross country skiing team prepare for their
most arduous mileage of that week's program, bracing for the
bitter cold hit, burning hamstrings, quads and glutes. A man
is at practice that day. He says his name is
Professor Sepo Sanya Kanya so sorry, and he wants the
(01:03:54):
athletes to wear two piece device that he's recently invented
as they ski that day's course. He says it will
change their training.
Speaker 3 (01:04:01):
It does.
Speaker 6 (01:04:02):
This professor founds a company that mass produces the device,
and that device changes the world of athletics and casual
wellness monitoring forever. And if you are watching the Jacksonville
Jaguars play football at any point in the twenty twenty
five season, you should be wearing this this professor's device too.
Speaker 4 (01:04:19):
It's the heart rate monitor.
Speaker 6 (01:04:21):
Invented I thought it was under armed nineteen seventy seven,
and it's readout during Jacksonville Jaguars games will make you
look like you've survived a Oh wow, earthquake.
Speaker 5 (01:04:33):
I believe it.
Speaker 6 (01:04:34):
This is their win loss probability chart from just last week,
which reflects Trevor is what these guys do during these games.
Speaker 5 (01:04:42):
That's the Trevor Lawrence. That's heart rate monitor.
Speaker 2 (01:04:44):
That's what I was thinking about during Monday night football.
Speaker 1 (01:04:46):
And I feel bad for Troy and Joe because there's
been a lot of snoozers on Monday night, and I
was thinking, can we even just get like a Jaguars
Cardinals round. You know how fun that would have been
on Monday Night Football to watch that game in primetime
because that was US and the Jaguars are delivering there.
Speaker 7 (01:05:01):
I mean, I was like a little I did to
go lone wolf for the Cardinals in that game, So
I was a little disappointed.
Speaker 3 (01:05:10):
But listen, this is a I don't know how you.
Speaker 7 (01:05:16):
Can keep going like this as a Jags fan, Like,
I want to just check on everyone in ball and
make sure that you're okay because looking at the heart
rate monitor, looking at the graph, it's tough. It's been
all over the place, and that game was hard to watch,
but it was fun. I can't imagine, though, if you're
in Duval sitting there watching it.
Speaker 5 (01:05:37):
I'll take that every game though, I'll take that.
Speaker 1 (01:05:39):
Trevor Lawrence so I liked afterwards where he was like,
I don't want it to change the way I played,
and I was thinking, yeah, but you don't normally play
that way. He had some incredible throws in that game.
They also used him as a runner pretty aggressively. I
thought they changed you know, early in the game, they
made a point to have him carry the ball. He
was scrammed and every big mistake that he made. He
(01:06:03):
followed it up with some incredible dimes to him. I
need a little bit more of that. I'll take that
version that, like jamisified version of Trevor versus the guy
I've seen most of the year where you know, you
see the flashes.
Speaker 8 (01:06:14):
Yeah, but and here here's the other thing. He's playing
a team this week in Tennessee. We can see all
we want about him.
Speaker 5 (01:06:19):
They are gonna make life hard for them if you watch,
if you are brave enough to watch.
Speaker 4 (01:06:22):
A Titan game, I said this last week here.
Speaker 5 (01:06:25):
They are a difficult team.
Speaker 8 (01:06:27):
And I've watched him for three straight weeks now closely,
and it is penalties that take them out of every game.
Speaker 5 (01:06:34):
Cam Ward will make a.
Speaker 8 (01:06:35):
Beautiful throw, they'll get a thirty yard game and it'll
get called back for a hold. Defensively, they'll make a
great stop and they'll have some type of personal file
away from the ball that gives the other team a
first down. So this is a team, So that heart
rate monitor, it's going to be just like that again.
And well, great story. I thought we were going girl
with the dragon tattoo.
Speaker 4 (01:06:55):
When you pronounced the names, I went down a real
rabbit hole. Yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:07:00):
I gotta tell you, I love that.
Speaker 4 (01:07:02):
It's some deep research here.
Speaker 1 (01:07:03):
The Jags are one of the teams that are up
there too in penalties for the season, so maybe they
could maybe that'll cancel each.
Speaker 2 (01:07:08):
Other out a long game.
Speaker 1 (01:07:10):
Look, watching the Jags receiver group last week, it was
like the most that made sense all season because Brenton
Stranger is back and he is awesome. Parker Washington has
become a really good player for them. Jacoby Myers fits
right in, and you're thinking, like, this group weirdly makes
more sense without Brian Thomas Junior and Travis Hunner on
the field. I think Brian Thomas Junior will be additive
(01:07:31):
when he does come back from his injury, but the
crew that they have out there now is working.
Speaker 6 (01:07:37):
I don't know that Liam Cohen agrees with you about
Brian Thomas Junior, and.
Speaker 2 (01:07:41):
That's bad coaching.
Speaker 6 (01:07:42):
Well, he's an incredible player, don't like, let me not
remove any of that from him. But it is this
is a team where all season to start, we've been
waiting for them to establish and show what their identity
was actually going to be in the passing game. And
I said it a couple of weeks ago that I
think that, first of all, Jacob Meyers coming in is
a huge value ad for them because he's a veteran
(01:08:03):
and he knows where to be and you saw this, yes,
and he's running some of the concepts that they're trying
to send Brian Thomas Junior and Travis Hunter on and
he was making them come to life very successfully.
Speaker 4 (01:08:15):
Ian Rampaport reported a couple last week.
Speaker 6 (01:08:17):
I believe that they still plan to play Travis Hunter
on both sides of the ball, and I think that's fine,
especially when you have this other identity of receivers where
you're not going to have to force him into any
sort of position.
Speaker 8 (01:08:31):
Parker Washington not you know his sister works on scouting
staff for the Chicago Bears. No way, she's a personal
evaluator for that.
Speaker 2 (01:08:39):
That's cool.
Speaker 3 (01:08:40):
Look at that Fountain.
Speaker 1 (01:08:41):
I mean, the Bears could have used them. They should
have listened to her. I'm sure she was saying, my
bro's good play, good ballplayer.
Speaker 2 (01:08:49):
We're going to wrap up.
Speaker 4 (01:08:50):
We should be on this show because we love confirming
our prior.
Speaker 1 (01:08:54):
Colleen Wolf, you've got the Cardinals going to Tampa right now.
The Bucks are only favored by three, which I think
reflects the uncertainty regarding Baker Mayfield's left shoulder. It's too
early to say, but the fact that they keep saying
he's got a sounds like he's got a decent chance
to play, unless they're trying to head fake us right.
Speaker 7 (01:09:14):
Which that I kind of was like, am I getting
the head fake here? Because seeing Baker on the sideline
in the sling during the game kind of felt a
little more serious than being able to come right back.
But it is his non throwing shoulder, though. The mechanics
of it all play together. So for this game, Bucky
(01:09:35):
Irvin returns for the Bucks to help a one armed
Baker Mayfield fire the cannons. Just as the Bucks look
like they're going to end a three game losing streak,
the Cardinals defense comes up with a huge takeaway, a
game winning scoop and score after Irving puts the ball on.
Speaker 5 (01:09:55):
Oh no, identify the fourth loss four?
Speaker 2 (01:10:01):
Maybe another Walter Nolen touchdown the vision.
Speaker 7 (01:10:05):
But it's and it spoils the return for Bucky Irving,
which they've absolutely needed and they've missed him so much,
and he plays really well in this game.
Speaker 3 (01:10:16):
I think here's here's because Baker needs to lean on him.
Speaker 8 (01:10:18):
Okay, so here's something with Carolina losing, Carolina facing the Rams,
and there's Carolina.
Speaker 5 (01:10:23):
Schedule is about to get brutal.
Speaker 8 (01:10:25):
Do you go with Teddy Bridgewater with a full weekend
starters practice in a game like this.
Speaker 5 (01:10:32):
At home? Right the game is at Tampa Bay.
Speaker 8 (01:10:35):
I mean, Teddy Bee is more than capable of holding
it down. Or because they haven't played well? Do you
push Baker because Baker is going to push himself to play.
Speaker 2 (01:10:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:10:42):
I think you because when Baker is playing well, he
elevates this offense. As hamstrung as it is with injuries
and everything, He's elevated this offense when he's playing well.
He hasn't been playing well, let's be clear on that.
But Teddy, they just this pass rush for Arizona is
not going to be the same as what the Ram brought.
But it was hard to watch Bridgewater come in and
(01:11:04):
get sort of mauled the way that that he was.
And this Bucks offensive line, it's it's very, very good.
But again, it's very clear that there's this sort of
synchronosity with Baker specifically and some of the things that
they do with this offense that it's like, not only
will he push to play, but I do think that
you just have to like roll him, roll with him
(01:11:26):
for the rest of the season and try to save yeah,
and try to save your season.
Speaker 5 (01:11:30):
Roll with him.
Speaker 2 (01:11:31):
As Steve makes an injection motion.
Speaker 5 (01:11:34):
We were covered by video team.
Speaker 4 (01:11:35):
Yeah, yeah, Craig.
Speaker 6 (01:11:36):
Once again, Greg's blown up the group chat today, He's
blown up.
Speaker 3 (01:11:40):
Don't you want to save him from himself a little bit?
Speaker 6 (01:11:42):
Though?
Speaker 4 (01:11:42):
There too, he does not want to be saved and
he doesn't want to be saved.
Speaker 6 (01:11:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:11:46):
No, he played poorly through this injury in Cleveland, So
I don't know what that if that's a good thing
or not. And I want to believe what you're saying
in Teddy Bridgewater, But he hasn't played football like he's
been on teams except for last year when he was
coaching high school football, right, but he has not actually
played any football in the NFL since twenty twenty two.
Speaker 2 (01:12:06):
And he did not look like the same old Teddy
last week.
Speaker 8 (01:12:10):
I mean, then let's go to the old thing we
were saying when shoot work came in. Any I think
that he hasn't practiced.
Speaker 6 (01:12:15):
Hereon thinking first that would help great The thing that
I think disappoints me most about the Bucks is because
you can understand some of the things that are happening
on offense. The quarterback hasn't been playing well, then got injured,
and then also they're dealing with injuries everywhere right on defense. Yes,
they have also dealt with injuries throughout the course of
this season. They were without their top corner last week,
but they are It's weird you look at like True
(01:12:38):
Media and Next Gen and they're still ranked so highly
statistically until you pull the curtain back a little bit
more and you look at the last few weeks and
how susceptible they have been on the ground and through
the air to the explosive plays. It is the Bills
the Pats, like they could get twenty plus ten plus
(01:12:59):
yards runs, twenty plus yards passes, and they were exposed
in that way. They can they can contain the meat
and potatoes type of stuff, but they are so vulnerable
to explosive run or pass.
Speaker 5 (01:13:11):
The explosive runs blowing my mind.
Speaker 8 (01:13:13):
I'm stuff that people are moving those guys up front
and they're getting gas.
Speaker 4 (01:13:18):
Yeah, and they still rank like in the top ten.
Speaker 1 (01:13:21):
They don't have to worry about that this week. That's
what they don't have to worry about that this week.
The Cardinals are the most pass heavy team in the league.
And it's not just about getting blown out, because last
week was close the whole time, and they just they
were like, we can't run the ball, so we're gonna
let Jacoby Brissett slang it. One of my favorite plays
of the season is actually a play where they dribble
the ball and shotgun to Jacoby Brissett like it's a
(01:13:44):
bad snap and he's backing up with his eyes up.
He is such a professional. The ball's on the ground
and he's figuring. I can look he's trying to watch
the pass rush while the ball is like rolling into
his arms and he's like dribbling and he eventually gets
it up and like gets rid.
Speaker 5 (01:13:59):
Of the ball. What that wasn't the first time he's
done it.
Speaker 2 (01:14:05):
I think that's absolutely right.
Speaker 1 (01:14:06):
And you know what, he's just given me great vibes
back there, given Michael Wilson a chance. Michael Wilson has
made himself some money the last couple of weeks, and
it's like it's almost awkward, you know, how is he
he's having better.
Speaker 2 (01:14:18):
Games than we've ever seen out of Marvin Harrison Jr.
Just saying what are you saying? Just saying it so
it's like, oh, that's interesting.
Speaker 6 (01:14:26):
Okay, he's noticing interesting, he's noticing it's on the radar.
Speaker 2 (01:14:30):
Poor Cardinals.
Speaker 6 (01:14:32):
I know. You look at the NFC standings, they're three
three and three of the four NFC West teams are
in the playoffs if the season ended today, and then
down at the.
Speaker 8 (01:14:43):
Bottom it's the card And it's crazy because I don't
think there's anybody who says Jonathan Gannon can't coach.
Speaker 4 (01:14:48):
No, he can coach.
Speaker 6 (01:14:49):
No.
Speaker 1 (01:14:49):
They're just good enough to get beat like in a close,
heartbreaking game most weeks.
Speaker 5 (01:14:54):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:14:54):
We we like confirming our priors. Sometimes it doesn't work
out for us.
Speaker 1 (01:14:58):
We talked a lot about the Arizona Cardinals this off season,
and we talked about them very positively.
Speaker 4 (01:15:04):
Conceptually, they make so much sense.
Speaker 7 (01:15:07):
Still, I've had two people this week who I've just
in casual conversation asked them who their team is and
they both said, oh, I don't really like I just
I love football. I don't really have a specific team.
And I'm like, like, you never had a team before,
like growing up or anything. Well, the Cardinals, they were
(01:15:28):
both they both had the same story, and I'm like, oh,
that's what happens.
Speaker 2 (01:15:33):
They bailed you guys, that's what happens. It happened.
Speaker 6 (01:15:36):
I never even I bailed so girl, Yeah, I bailed
back when they were in bleacher seats at sun Devil Stadium.
Speaker 1 (01:15:44):
I mean, this is what happened when they were the
Chicago Cardinals to the same last name owning the team.
Speaker 5 (01:15:48):
I never attached him when they were in Saint Louis.
Speaker 1 (01:15:51):
Guy, what a time inside the Chris Wesley podcast studio.
We've done it, and I love you guys, and I
hope you guys have a great Thanksgiving. You guys, Happy
Thanksgiving to everyone out there too.
Speaker 2 (01:16:07):
Get out of here.
Speaker 6 (01:16:07):
Have some full yes, yeah, any kind of show, any
kind of souper, it'll be good.
Speaker 4 (01:16:13):
Good soup is good.
Speaker 1 (01:16:14):
I want some of our listeners to go down the
rankings and tell us who had the best.
Speaker 2 (01:16:18):
You know, lobster at six, all of that.
Speaker 1 (01:16:21):
I mean, By the way, we'll be back on NFL
Daily myself, Will Gavin, and Allie Connolly wrapping up all
the Thanksgiving games and block Friday that I'll go up
on Friday evening.
Speaker 2 (01:16:30):
We'll see you then. Happy Thanksgiving,
