Speaker 1 (00:05):
As we continue on a media road, I got my
man Carsons Swastinger just got Defensive Rookie of the Year
last night over there at the NFL Honors.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
I was going to n Honors.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
I mean, in my mind, I always wanted to dress
up and win an award, and then there you are
doing it.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
It was pretty cool. I think I probably could address better.
That's not you know, my forte. But you know, it's
cool walking the red carpet, seeing seeing a bunch of
different guys and you know, growing up watching the NFL
so much, so cool to be in that moment and
then to be able to, you know, win an award
and it is pretty special.
Speaker 4 (00:35):
Right.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
I'm coming from UCLA, good old u c l A
down in Los Angeles, the Baby Bears, Bruins.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
I went to Cow so like I've always had that
good dig.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
I don't know if I lost a little bit.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
I mean it's been for a reason, as you guys did.
Head coach, we're in the same position college mind. We're
hoping you let you let your team and tackles this season.
I mean had a stellar rookie year. Clearly, why defensive
rookie year? What do you look forward to in that
in that in this first off season true offseason.
Speaker 5 (01:08):
Yeah, well, the first thing is just getting a little rest.
You know, that rookie year.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
Is pretty long, bro.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
You go from your college season to combine to O
T A S to you know, playing the longest season
in your life. So we be able to exactly, so
being able to get a little rested will be nice.
And then just being able to build going into next year.
And you know, I think we got a great defense
that that we showed all year and just building off
that is.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Absolutely Any any rookie duties that that might have been
peculiar to your team and not maybe not mine.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
I don't know about peculiar.
Speaker 6 (01:38):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
You know, you have the rookie dinners, you have to
bring the snacks, decorate the room.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
You know, I think todays are just Christmas.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
See what we were supposed to do all holidays, but
sometimes you know, sometimes got lost and then it ended
up we got we got a Christmas tree there, you know,
had some had some good snacks. I will say I
was I was proud of the snack game I brought
play Other than that, zebra cakes. Don't even know what's
the what was the heaviest rotation of snack any hot chips? Really,
I go there and get three three's, Oh yeah, three
(02:06):
just so those uh you know, variety packs of just
eight different hot chips.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
Yeah, and just set those up. They were happy and.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
We were zebra cake heavy this year.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
I was like, Dan, you can move, like, bring me
some actual chips. We were so sweet heavy. I didn't
even partake. Oh but when I think about you know
you you coming in U c l a second round?
You were like the day one starter, Like tell me
you see you see Miles Garrett in front of you.
You know you got you got dogs in front of you.
Huh part of the dog pound. How easy is to
(02:35):
buy in on part of your defense?
Speaker 6 (02:36):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (02:37):
I mean very easy.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
I think you see all the guys you're taking the
field with and you either play up to that level
or you get left behind. And uh, you know, with
with those guys out there, it's very easy to go
out play with them. And everybody's playing with energy. I
mean we got guys all over the field. You want
to go against the secondary, you know you're not getting
you're not getting past us anywhere you want to hold
the ball, We're getting to the we're getting to the quarterback.
Speaker 5 (02:58):
You want to run, you can't run anywhere.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
So I think all over the field makes it easy
to go play with those guys and uh, you know,
it's a whole lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
I was like, did you have a welcome moment at
all this year?
Speaker 3 (03:08):
I mean, you know, you have your you your plays
here and there. I didn't have like a welcome on
a field.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
No.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
I mean my welcome was probably I'm sitting there and
you know, look at my phone.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
One of our guys just gets traded. Yeah. I was like, oh, well,
I guess that's that's the.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
NFL portal time. Anybody can go a certain point of
the year, I'll say.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
So.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
So you just know you play in France, Saints, Uh huh.
How do we feel about a first Parisian game?
Speaker 4 (03:36):
I mean I'm excited.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
Yeah, we went to where we played in London this year. Yeah,
I don't think I left the hotel probably not a
great you know, I was you you know, but this time,
you know, you're in I think wherever we are pretty
sure you's got to go.
Speaker 5 (03:51):
See a little bit, you know, So that'll be exciting.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
You went to Paris, you went to London and to
go see Big Ben.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
No, no, that's all you know, that was you know
that ball on my part.
Speaker 5 (04:01):
Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna agree there. I didn't want to,
you know, to the man.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
I can wait London, right right, blood sausage. I'll just
talk about football again. I mean, I don't know how
I didn't ask this question. You have, Miles Gett, I said,
Miles Geeded. I was like, O, he breaks a sad
record year one for you? What was that like? Witnessing legendary?
Speaker 4 (04:19):
That was pretty cool to witness.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
I mean, like you said, legendary and just watching it
throughout the whole year. Obviously he breaks the record in
the last week, which is a pretty special moment.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
But I mean just watching.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
Games where you you you get, you get done with
the game, You're like, he had how many sacks? And
then you're like, oh, oh, you know that's a one
time thing. He does it the next week, does it
the next week, and so you know, it's also great
to go out there and play with it. You know,
the whole area of the field shut down. Don't got
to worry about.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
It, right, it's over. As a middle lineberger, you gotta
you know, drop whole coverage. You gotta drop to you
cover two.
Speaker 5 (04:48):
You don't even get their quarterbacks already sick.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
You don't have to go against the tight end. Who's
the best tight end you went against?
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Oh there are some good ones. We played in San Francisco.
Kittle Kittle, I love I love watching just the tape.
I mean he'll do it all. I mean he's gonna
go run whatever ut but he's also going to go
block whoever he whoever he's supposed to block. And Cults,
they got a really good We didn't go against something,
but played Warren and yeah, played him in college.
Speaker 5 (05:15):
Okay, so you knew, I mean you knew playing then
he was gonna be a good player, right.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Okay, okay, So so best best title you've played against
Bobby kittled Oh yeah, his hands down.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
He got hurt. He got hurt by the time we
played him.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
I was liked. I changed his lot for us. Oh yeah,
we like this exactly.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
At this point, you know what, what what interests you?
Speaker 6 (05:35):
What?
Speaker 2 (05:35):
What can you actually do? What you can you have
time for hobbies?
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Now, dude, I almost don't know what to do at
the time I have, you know, the last whole year
has just been football, and so I have some time
off and I'm sitting there like, I don't know. I
don't know what to do with some video games. You
got little guitar here and there, can you actually play?
I mean, I have a couple of songs memorized, but
that's about it. People say play this and I'm like, no, yes,
it ain't gonna happen if you don't know this song
(05:59):
I'm playing.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
This ain't for you. You know, read a little bit here
and there.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
No no garage band start up, No, no.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
Tell me, uh like I said, tell me, tell me
what you're looking forward to this off seas Specifically, I'm
always gonna say, hey, navigate travel you got to see
a new country.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
Yeah, I gotta I gotta figure that out. I gotta
figure that out. I keep saying, yeah, I gotta go
travel somewhere. But you know, being in Cleveland and the snow,
I was just happy to get back home to LA
and you have some of the sunshine.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
How is that playing in the snow? No weekend we
got practice out there. Oh yeah, I'm against it.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
I see, I was okay with the snow, but there
was some games no snow. But like negative degrees. Ive
never been that cold in my life. You know, the
coldest game I played before this year is probably fifty right,
and now I'm playing in ten below and so that
was that was a little bit new.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
But the snow is a little bit fun. I'll just say.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
Being a part of the pack, and you're not a
part of the pack. You're a big you're a big
show off. Got big ten guy. Yeah you see like
bake ten. Yeah that's crazy, I said, yeah, you ahead.
I don't know anything about it. I think all's I
think all Stadium should have domes. And then they're the
dog Pound. Who's got like seventeen random happy fans? That
is negative five?
Speaker 4 (07:09):
For sure?
Speaker 3 (07:09):
It off right, and I'm like wow, exactly, Like I
could barely be on the field for however long the
drive is before I got to run back to the
bench and get the jacket.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
On, running to the warmers.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
I'm like on the bench, Oh wait, where's the fire pit?
Speaker 4 (07:22):
Exactly. I put my whole foot in the pit.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Like I played Cleveland a couple years ago and I
was inspired and never played COCD again.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
Exactly.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
I appreciate you stopping by, brother. Be easy to be safe,
we wish you well for next year. Hope you have
a sophomore eleape. All right, I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
I would say more winds, but.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
We'll get some more.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Absolutely, I'm glad with Cam Jordan.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
I'm super excited to think I got one of my OG's,
one of my legends, what I consider one of the
goats of the game, greatest of all time, tight end
Tony Gonzales. I appreciate you, know, first of all go Bears,
because I love it every time. Went to the University
of California at Berkeley. Your resume a loon's peaks for
volumes for self Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
What haven't you done?
Speaker 1 (08:05):
I mean at Cal you played basketball and football, one
of the truest two sport athletes in the game. Of course,
you touched Atlanta at the tail in your career. After
being with Kansas City for so many years? How did
you even get to like, I know you got traded,
but how does how does that even happen?
Speaker 4 (08:21):
You know, you go to Atlanta.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
You make a statement saying if I would have played
Atlanta my whole career, it would have extended me by
a number of years.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
Uh huh, Well, I don't know extended me I had.
Speaker 7 (08:30):
This is where I got a lot of flak when
I did go to Atlanta from the people in Kansas City.
Speaker 4 (08:35):
Is and this is what happens when you leave your team.
Speaker 7 (08:37):
There's always gonna be a couple of diehards that are like,
what the hell, but you got traded? Yeah, Like, well
I got traded and we won two games last year,
and and I'm old, I'm going in year thirteen.
Speaker 4 (08:46):
I need to I need to get out of here.
I need to go chase that ring.
Speaker 7 (08:48):
And that's what happened when I went out to Atlanta.
It's just had Matt Ryan, had Roddy White, we drafted
Julio Ojojos. We're playing in the NFC Championship game. I
won some playoff playoff game. And that's where I say,
like it kind of completed my career from that sense,
like I would have never got that if I would
have stayed in Kansas City.
Speaker 8 (09:05):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (09:05):
And I probably could have stayed, but I had asked
for a trade. That that's what it was.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
I had.
Speaker 7 (09:10):
I had asked to get out of there because I
was I was gonna be thirty three years old, and
I'm like, I got one two years left. I didn't
think I was gonna play another five years, right, and
so it was it was kind of a simple decision
for me because it's like stay here, uh, keep the
fans happy, but you're gonna be unhappy and you're never
absolutely positively never gonna win a ring because we just
don't have the guys at that point in locker room. Yeah,
(09:30):
and I'm like, okay, or trade me to a team
like you got a franchise quarterback.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
It's all about the quarterback.
Speaker 7 (09:34):
You get Matt Ryan, It's like, Bam, we're gonna be good, okay,
And we did and we were really really good.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
So that's that was.
Speaker 7 (09:39):
One of the reasons why I say Atlanta kind of
completed my career. And I loved it out there and
playing with elite players, especially at that quarterback position.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
In the backfield with that Michael Turner.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
Michael Turner, Berner Turner, and John Abraham on defense. Absolutely, yeah,
we had some good players.
Speaker 7 (09:54):
Well then I had to block your ass twice a year,
which I didn't like that too much, but it was good.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
It's started off my career.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
The rest of us, it's Tony Gonzalez.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
I mean, what do you what do you think about
you know, uh, records being record for catches by Trey
mc m McBride. Yeah, I mean you said that record
in what twenty sixteen, and then he comes in and
you know that, what does.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
One with one hundred whatever that was?
Speaker 7 (10:20):
Yeah, yeah, I think what do you have one hundred
and twenty or twenty six I mean, first of all, well,
it doesn't even matter you got that with the extra
game or not. He's he's catching a lot of balls.
One hundred and seventy targets for him.
Speaker 8 (10:32):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (10:33):
That's what this game has evolved to, though. I think
you got to have a guy a tight end like that.
You played with Jimmy Graham, you played with some really
good Watson, Yeah, Ben Watson. But the evolution of this position,
the way it's been going, I mean, these guys are
two hundred and forty five hundred and fifty pounds wide receivers.
Now that's heavy and can by matchup nightmare can't can't
(10:53):
guard that. You mean put a linebacker on me, I'm
gonna outrun you usually. I mean if you'll run around
a four four four five, uh, and then you put
a dB me, I'm just gonna jump up over you
and catch the ball.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
And I'm just a big body.
Speaker 7 (11:03):
So that's the it's the matchup nightmare for these guys
in Trey is is the best tight in the league
right now, right now, right.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
Right now, I mean the brock Bowers, I would say
they're the best.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Say, is there any other standout young tight ends like
brock Bowers or you know you were Tyler Warren or
Tyler war you know Joan Johnson over the Saints that
you that you do watch?
Speaker 7 (11:20):
Yeah, I watch I watched Tyler Warren, I watched brock Bowers,
Trey h I love adult and Kinkaid is a good one.
Speaker 4 (11:27):
Sam Laporter from from Detroit. All those guy Dan.
Speaker 7 (11:30):
You know you if you if you could pick them
out in the lineup, they all look just alike to hell.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
Yeah you watch it? Yeah watch five.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
You know Travis kelcey type builds when he was when
he was a younger.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
I mean they're just they're they're ready to run.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
Trey McBride in the middle of games like, you know,
they go pass me the ball and I'm gonna catch. Yes,
I said, you know what, I like this kid, I said,
we love we love people that exude confidence.
Speaker 7 (11:52):
Yeah, I just hope, you know, for guys like that,
I just hope they get the opportunity to be on
that big stage like Travis Kelce and George Kettle.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
Don't forget George Kid is one of the best to
ever do it.
Speaker 7 (12:01):
And you play in Super Bowls, that's where you kind
of get to show the world what you can do.
Trade McBride, I said, he's probably the best tight in
the league right now, but a lot of people wouldn't
know who he is. They wouldn't know what he looks
like or any because I haven't rely seen him play
because he's on a team like Arizona. So I hope
they all get a chance to go out there and
be on a really good team so they can get known,
no doubt.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
So for you, it's more tight ends the better. You
noted the twelve personnels, the thirteen personnels. How do you
feel about thirteen personnel?
Speaker 4 (12:25):
I love it.
Speaker 7 (12:26):
I think it's great. You see a lot of teams
are moving toward that's kind of the vogue, the trend.
You know, the NFL always has trendss a goal line
looking see and I think that's what they're going to
go to because of that matchup problem. It's okay, we're
gonna put big guys on the field, but now these
guys are gonna go out and catch balls.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
Now too, So you put your big guys out here
to match up. Yeah, you don't have the CJ.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Mosley is the last of the Mario Davis being six
y three and still being able to run.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
A four or five.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
Like it's a smaller, lighter linebackers have sort of taking
the league, and now you're going to the bigger, faster,
tight end.
Speaker 4 (12:55):
Yeah, let's go.
Speaker 7 (12:56):
How about Darnhill Washington too?
Speaker 4 (13:00):
I mean, why are you sitting him?
Speaker 1 (13:02):
And you're no longer fearing being over the middle anymore
because defenders can't hit you and they literally have to
wrap out a five to ten nickel.
Speaker 7 (13:12):
I think tight ends the tight end position where we're
at Now, it's gonna get even more relevant, uh more
treaty more people, More offenses are going to go to
putting these big guys out there because of the rules
the way they're set up. Now, he can't hit them,
you know, to these guys, Darnel Washington to me, I'm
telling he to me, he's the most entertaining player to
watch in the NFL when he gets the ball in
(13:33):
his hands.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
Yeah, it is the most fun to watch.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
Looking for contact, you know.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
Oh, it's the best. Is the best?
Speaker 1 (13:39):
I just wish, like again when I enter the league
twenty eleven, you went over the middle, you guys, you
had Rowan Harper coming down and smacking.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Oh, now as you go over the middle and like
his wrap up tackles.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
I remember a guy he said, abdual Caduce out there
put somebody asleep one time going over the middle, and
I was like, that's the way you play football.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
And now that would have been three flags plus three fins.
Speaker 7 (13:58):
Yes, and you're gone. He probably kicked out of ye
get him out, Get him out.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Of course we're here for super Bowl week, so I mean,
let's just talk about it. Who do you have winning?
Speaker 8 (14:07):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (14:08):
Well, you know we watched we had both these teams
on Thursday Night football this year. Close yep. Uh, both
well coached. Has some good players. Obviously quarterbacks are good.
But Seattle that the defensive side of the ball for them.
I think they're probably the best defense that I saw
in them in Houston. There we go the best two
(14:28):
defenses I saw, and I just think Drake may as
good as he's played. I just don't know if we'll
have that much success against this defense consistently.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
So Seattle's gonna win this game. I think. I think
it might be a runaway. I don't know if it'll
be that close.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
I mean a second a second year, second year quarterback
who's at one point had all the m v P chants,
and you know, they say, you're only as good as
your last game, and so to let luster we get
the weather happened, but there was still the first half
that was perfect conditions. Yeah, you know, he had he
did have to play some of the top defenses.
Speaker 7 (14:56):
Yeah, so we'll see. We'll say it's gonna be good.
I hope it's a good game, I really do. But
I just keep hoping for an electric game, like just
let it be electric. Yeah, And I'm rooting for Sam.
I am rooting for Sam. I mean his story. I
think that's one of the best stories you can think
of for a football you.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
See quarterback in my mind, So the actually produced a
good quarterback, not like col baby.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
He's not a cal bear, but is what it is.
And by the way, I'm counting Fana Mendoz He's a bear.
That's great.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
You don't go for multiple years and go for you know,
Indiana one.
Speaker 4 (15:24):
He was there six months. Six months.
Speaker 7 (15:25):
Yeah yeah, So what are you doing here with the
with DraftKings. Well, I'm out here at Draft Kings is
the number one place for live sports betting the Super
Bowl Sunday, so that.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
I'm scared of.
Speaker 7 (15:35):
Well, you could play some live bets during the game
and get your chance to win five million dollars worth
of prizes that they're gonna be getting during the game.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
So remember it's for fun, it's entertainment.
Speaker 7 (15:42):
Enjoy the game, enjoy the action that you put on
the game, and it's a beautiful Sunday for.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
You, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
How do you how do we feel about Toash Lupoy
over at Cal new head coach got in fact Ron Rivera.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
It's a GM over Yeah, which is crazy.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
You know, just think.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
About the tide is changing hopefully in a great way
for us.
Speaker 4 (16:00):
Yeah. Well, you know, we me and you, we always
get together.
Speaker 7 (16:02):
We talk about Cal and what they do, the players
that they have produced.
Speaker 4 (16:06):
In the NFL.
Speaker 7 (16:07):
Long, guy, I put it right up there with Florida State, Alabama.
The type of players that go to the League impact
guys that play twelve thirteen, the Hall of Fame career
type guys. So yeah, I think this will help continue
that tradition. Ron Rivera is one of my guys. I
love Ron. Yeah, and he's and that's what he's doing
for that program. You know, hopefully they get a little money.
So it seems like that's what the name of the
game is now right here.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
Valley and we got we got the alums to do it.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
Yeah, it's time you see.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
You see teams like Texas, you know, Texas and all
Texas take all of a sudden have these playoff roster tity.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
It takes money to takes money. Got to have it nowadays.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
Indeed, I appreciate you for having it, for stopping by.
I know you got thirty five of these interviews. Anytime
I get a cal beer, I'm excited.
Speaker 7 (16:48):
I try to stay busy up here, but yeah, thanks
for having me. Man, you're doing a great job. I
appreciate it, no doubt.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
All right, and here we are.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
We're back on media row in San Francisco, the Bay Area.
Back off the edge of podcast me host Cam Joe
and I got my guy Tomorrow Hamley here just finished
with your five.
Speaker 6 (17:08):
In the league, climbing up there.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
I'm not gonna lie to you the fact that three
years ago we were all.
Speaker 4 (17:15):
Praying for you.
Speaker 6 (17:16):
I appreciate it like you rose back. You know what
I'm saying for show.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
It's amazing what you've been able to do. But you know, you,
you being you have played play for the Bills. Where
you're at now? Do where do you see yourself in
the future? Man?
Speaker 8 (17:32):
You know I just finished up year five. Yeah, I
am a free agent right now. But you know, man,
my heart is always in Buffalo. My heart is always
in Buffalo, regardless of you know, my future with the
team or whatever. I feel like I will always be
a Buffalo Bill. I'm pretty sure you can relate to
that feeling, you know what I mean?
Speaker 6 (17:50):
Uh, So, you.
Speaker 8 (17:51):
Know I'm I'm guided by God, you know. So I
feel like I'm gonna be wherever I'm supposed to be.
I know, I got a lot more ball left. I
didn't have the season I wanted this year. I had
peck surgery, but I had the season I needed, and
I think I used that time wisely, Like that was
my thing.
Speaker 6 (18:07):
From the day of the injury.
Speaker 8 (18:09):
I knew, like you got a choice like you could
either trip out this or you can use this time wisely.
Speaker 6 (18:14):
And I made sure every day I used it wisely.
Speaker 8 (18:17):
So I feel like I prolonged my career five years
or however long I wanted to be just off of
that time I had, you know, stepped away from the
game right way.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
Yeah, bro, I mean all right, so so you know
the inner workings, right, Bill's go ahead.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Fire John McDermott.
Speaker 6 (18:32):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
Higher in building talent with Joe Brady, So a.
Speaker 6 (18:36):
Little familiarity there, yeah, for sure.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
How you like Joe?
Speaker 6 (18:39):
I love Joe Man.
Speaker 8 (18:40):
I got a long relationship with go ten years and
ten years ago, I was a recruit for Penn State.
You know, they were in my top two schools. I
went to Pitt but you know, Penn State that was
my next option. Joe Brady was a GA at Penn State.
It was riding us around on the golf court and
stuff like that, like you know, blowing up my d
and stuff like for Penn State. So it's it's definitely
(19:03):
like great to see his trajectory. It shows how driven
and how motivated it is, and how how much he
has a will to win, you know, to to truly
always progress in his career. So I'm excited for it, man,
And you know, Buffalo is a place where you know,
we're blessed to have good people in the building top down,
and Coach Sean was a big part of that for sure.
Speaker 6 (19:23):
Every day that he walked in the room to you know,
lead us.
Speaker 8 (19:27):
You know, I learned something that I'm gonna apply and
tell my kids one day when I have them, or
you know, just I want to go add it to
how my parents live, just because you know, he's preaching
to us about not only just being players, but truly
just being great men.
Speaker 6 (19:41):
So excited for it all.
Speaker 8 (19:43):
When you hire in the building, it just shows you
that you have great people already in the building. And
that's something that I noticed early on from my career,
like year one to two, to three to four. As
change always happened, it always happened from within. So you
know that's how I always knew that, you know, what
we got here is something special.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
Absolutely. I mean you talk about how close the locker
room felt like looked like from the outside in man,
bro I mean, clearly, you guys have all the all
the faith in the world and each other, especially with
the quarterback like Josh Allen for sure. I mean you
got the way you guys lost to the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
Hurt had to hurt.
Speaker 6 (20:20):
Been there, done that, chrissed off.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
But what does that do for motivation for your off season?
Speaker 8 (20:24):
Yeah, look like an l like that for surely hurts,
you know what I mean, And especially just speaking of
my specifically my specific situation. You know, I worked my
ass off for the last three months to make it
back to be able to have a chance to play,
and you know I was right there, Like week eighteen,
I went to go get cleared, Like I didn't even
attend the game of our last game of the season.
(20:47):
I flew out to my surgeon to get clear, and
I got clear, and like from that point on, it
was a ramp up, you know what I'm saying to
getting back. So you know, if we would have won
that game and made it to the AFC Championship, I.
Speaker 6 (20:58):
Would have had a chance return.
Speaker 8 (21:00):
I would have had another return, and I would have
been able to, you know, have a chance to get
out there with my teammates man and just and just
help us win. You know, I've played playoff football. I
have so many starts in our in our defense. You know,
I really feel like it help us win. So that
was tough for me. That was that was one of
the toughest reasons. What made the laws tough because I
(21:20):
gave every day. I committed every day to try to
make it back like that was my motivation.
Speaker 6 (21:25):
So it was tough.
Speaker 8 (21:27):
But uh man, you know how this it's only one winner,
you know, so like the time when you lose, to
about super Bowl and you see other people losing, it
kind of make you just be like, well, you know
they got the same feeling as us, and you just
gear up for next years.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
Indivision any same division opponent super Bowl different with this Indivision.
Speaker 4 (21:50):
It really do. It really does.
Speaker 8 (21:52):
But you know, I'd rather root for them than root
for anybody else. And I got I got, you know,
real relationships with people our team, you know, people who
then came through our building.
Speaker 6 (22:03):
So you know, I want to see them succeed.
Speaker 8 (22:05):
You know, if it's their moment, it's their moment, it's
their time, and you know I'd rather it for them
than anyone else, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
I mean that's like you the Broncos coaching staff and players.
It felt like it's very new Orleans East. So if
they would have gone over, like all right, man, it's cool. No, Sean,
I know Street, I know, you know so many coaches
and players.
Speaker 8 (22:22):
We're starting to become New Orleans East a little bit. Man,
Joe Brady being down there, I've seen our O C.
Speaker 6 (22:28):
We hired. He was y'all. He was y'all O C
from like oh.
Speaker 8 (22:31):
Nine to I looked at it like he was the
OC in three different decades.
Speaker 6 (22:35):
I'm like, okay, yeah.
Speaker 4 (22:40):
Man, what do you what do you do with your foundation?
Speaker 6 (22:43):
So the chasing them was foundation.
Speaker 4 (22:44):
Man.
Speaker 8 (22:45):
You know, our focus has always been youth empowerment. You know,
growing up, I was that young kid, you know, who
needed the help, who needed the support of people that
truly cared about that kid. And you know, I don't
want to say I never got it because I had
really good people in my life, my parents, who who
gave me the structure and the discipline to be able
to make it. But you know, I always was searching
(23:06):
for that role model figure that can tell me, yes, no,
do this, don't do that, stay away from that. So
I turned myself into it. And what I mean by
that is one as soon as I made it, I
wanted to give back to my community, so I started
my Chasing Them Foundation. I hosted toy drives for the
kids just to kind of, you know, bring the community
together on a on a holiday that the world feels everywhere.
(23:30):
And you know, that's how my that's how my foundation
got started within youth empowerment. And now we've now one
of ournother pillars is you know, heart related issues.
Speaker 6 (23:39):
You know, just we traveled the world.
Speaker 8 (23:41):
We've been in six different countries teaching people hands only CPR.
We're forty thousand dollars away from giving out a million
dollars in ADS, which is the device that saved my
life on the field. So and leading and Southern cardiac
or rest is the leading cause of death and youth sports,
you know, kids hearts actually stopping and then them not
(24:02):
knowing CPO or someone not knowing where an AED is
to be able to, you know, make sure these kids
play safely. So you know, I took it upon myself
through my foundation to tackle that mission. And you know,
we partner with Stand Together because Stand Together cares about
empowering the people who truly care about doing the work
in the grassroots, you know, empowering the people that are
(24:23):
closest to the problem, and you know, it's not really
too many places where you can it's not really too
many partnerships where you truly find alignment. And from top down,
you feel like everybody has a good heart.
Speaker 6 (24:37):
And you know, that's what I've always been about.
Speaker 8 (24:39):
I've always been selective, like with my partnerships and who
I've wanted to like be in my ecosystem. And I
can appreciate when other people are like that because you know,
you truly understand and you truly want to protect what
you have going on. And just what I'm able to
do with my foundation and stand together is it's amazing.
Speaker 6 (24:57):
We had fun this year with I cause my cleats
as well.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
Absolutely, I mean from Christian Brother. Christian Brother, I heard
you got baptized as well.
Speaker 8 (25:04):
Hey, bro, yeah, that's a huge leaping faith, don't Wondernath
January ninth. And you know what, Bro, what really what
really gave me the time to really like find the
alignment was my injury. Like you know, for the last
three years, you know, I've truly just been trying to
like treadwater, stay afloat, like make sure I'm making all
the right moves to you know, make sure that my
(25:26):
earthly world is able to take care of my family
here and things like that. You know, you got to
live that life, you know what I mean. But you
know I truly care about that spiritual version of myself too,
and I always, always from a young kid, I felt
the alignment, and I felt the calling from God and
I always heard his voice, you know, so you know,
(25:48):
just to have like an experience in front of the
world where people have a spiritual emotional tide to me.
You know, I've been that person, like I've been that
same person, but my injury truly led me to finding
the alignment to uh getting baptized earlier this year January ninth,
actually a few days after my three year anniversary of
(26:09):
my Southern CARDI your acharrest on the field, no pun intended.
You know, I'm number three, so you know, I'm in
my third year of my new life.
Speaker 6 (26:16):
I just got baptized.
Speaker 8 (26:18):
Like the alignment truly feels like it's right on point, bro,
And you know, I just really feel like, you know,
my purpose here is to continue to, like like always,
you know, like seek God first, allow him to tell
me what I need to be doing.
Speaker 6 (26:31):
And then you know complete his mission.
Speaker 2 (26:33):
No doubt. Absolutely, we love we love to hear that
for sure.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
But I just need to know who's wunning the Shot
Bowl this week for the Patriots. But are you being
a realist?
Speaker 6 (26:42):
Yeah, I'm being a realist.
Speaker 8 (26:43):
Great, Look, I've it's been it's been Seattle biased. I
don't know if we're just closer to Seattle or what.
But I don't see how people think it's going to
be like a landslide of just Seattle. Like maybe I
didn't pay attention enough to Seattle this season. Maybe like
you know, Monday nights or whatever, you know, maybe they
(27:06):
have enough Monday night games or something for me to
really like get up on them. But they went on
our schedule last year. We played them and like you know,
we had our way a little bit. And it's not
the same team at all. But I like New England man,
Like I think they can play ball. They got good
special teams too. They got they got good offense, they
got great running backs you know they have. They got
a good tight end, they got, they got good defense.
(27:29):
Like the corners are elite. Their corners are elite.
Speaker 1 (27:33):
Bro Patriots have one elite corner probably probably the best
corner of the game, second best corner of the game.
Speaker 8 (27:39):
Pascertain Christian like he's up there for show. But but
but I think the Pictures got two E league corners.
They got they got two WE league corner they got
to Christian, Christian nice, Christian nice.
Speaker 6 (27:53):
They got. They got dogs, Bro, I like that group.
Speaker 8 (27:56):
They got Splaine he I know him from Stiller days,
just being a young Steller fan in Pittsburgh. He's been
a dog. He's one of the Raiders. Now he's in
New England. They got real leaders, Broy. Like I've been
on the team with Diggs. I know his impact as
a as a teammate to where like he gets the
best out of everybody.
Speaker 6 (28:15):
Like I've been on the team with Mac Collins.
Speaker 8 (28:16):
I know his I know his aura and what he
brings to the team as a leader in the locker
room like ethic. It matters, Bro, Like it matters like
it matters man. If if I could be in charge, Bro,
I want them guys on my team for sure. Yeah,
so I gotta roll with them, you know, I gotta
roll with them. I know what it's like playing with them,
(28:37):
so big game. I just I just hope everything goes
their way Bro. I want to see him when I
love that.
Speaker 1 (28:42):
Appreciate you for coming in Cam Jordan, your hoes, my
guy tomorrow, Hamley
