Speaker 1 (00:04):
All right, here we are. It's the season's end. We're done.
Seasons over for the New Orleans Saints. But off the
edge of the podcast, me and your host Camdere we're
gonna still gonna be here. We're gonna talk a little
bit of football. We're gonna talk through the playoffsn't we
gonna talk a lot, and we're gonna talk about how
how how much promise we showed in the back third
(00:25):
of our season, A lot of wins, a lot of upsets.
Finished the season six and gosh eleven. That sucks because
we have such a good locker room. We've got so
many good teammates of mine. I've been impressed with so
many people, Chase Young, Chris o'lave uh and a guy
who I wanting to bring up, a man who had
(00:47):
a stint with Oregon Ducks, with stint with Texas Tech
finished in Louisville, second round draft pick for the New
Orleans Saints. A huge reason of how he sort of
went on a four game win streak late in the
season with perfect in November, could have gone perfect in December.
We were close, but a channel Arizona kid, you know.
(01:09):
Via via Arizona Ad we we're brethren. Now he went
to the wrong school, I think. But that's that's neither
here nor there. I'm talking about my guy shot.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Yeah, let's go, man, I want to. I appreciate the intro,
but we might have to we might have to edit
in a few a few things there. The right school
on Arizona Avenue, for sure, and we were undefeated in December,
lost in January, unfortunately.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
That's what it was, lost in January. Gosh, dang started off.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
That's only all the way up, all the ways.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
Up, only ways up. I appreciate you hopping on, bro,
you know what I'm saying. I know you busy me.
I just seen you at the basketball game with the
Lakers and I'm sitting on you know, I'm sitting on
the floor and they showed a picture of you and
and our owner, Missus Benson. I said, oh, that boy
and the owners.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Yeah, I'm in the I'm in the rafters, bro, I was.
I was on top of man. It wasn't one time crazy?
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Is that not crazy? Just to watch forty one year
old Lebron James go for a windmill.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Dude, I was just watching him the whole time, like
sprint back and forth in the amount of like jump
cut bursts, and I'm like, dang, you know, I'd be
I'd be gashed right now. So, I mean that was
pretty cool. That was the first time I was able
to to watch those guys, especially the Lakers. But I
feel like the Pells are actually playing really well. We
just kind of hadn't been able to finish it. But
(02:33):
I feel like they're they're coming together too.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Absolutely. I think that you know, we got we got
a nice little starting lineup. We got some great rotating,
rotating pieces. I don't know why we're not any more games,
you know, it's it's sort of like how we started.
He's gotta find some sort of confidence. So once you
get confidence and start rolling, you know, how did you
end up in Hamilton High? You know, like.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Air you end up? That was I think zoning was
still I mean, yeah, it stopped after maybe a couple
of years, but I was zoned for Basha, But I
ended up going to Hamilton really because of baseball and
football too. It was kind of multiple factors, but it
was kind of more of a baseball school and I
played that all the way up until my senior year,
(03:16):
and I mean it was just it was. Yeah, it
was just the best sports school in the state, especially
on Chandler Arizona app and on Arizona Avenue. But yeah,
I think it was really because of that and then
a bunch of my friends. So it kind of just
worked out, you know, that way going to Hamilton, and
I was obviously super thankful I did it. Was it
(03:36):
was a lot of fun just I mean, you know,
going to a big public high school. You got all
your friends there, you got everybody kind of this around you.
So it helped me out so much just from a
competition standpoint too.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
Absolutely, I try to tell people I was they brought.
I think it was like when I was at Chairma High.
I think we had like forty eight hundred kids in
the school, forty five hundred kids. We were huge. Yeah,
and it's probably bigger now.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Yeah, I mean it's probably I think it was hard
as forty one or forty two at the time. Yeah,
you seen kids, you never seen foreign graduation. But like
it's just the influx of just talent though. You got
a bunch of people coming in, a bunch of smart kids,
you got everybody. So yeah, I think it's like going
to a big public high school was the best. I
mean it's the best thing because you get to just
(04:22):
be around everybody. You're you're kind of throwing to the wolves.
Is like sink or swim man, go go make friends.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Absolutely. I mean think about downtown Chandler right that, you know,
right there's steakhouses, there's nice walking spots. You know, you
can get breakfast or whatever. My Downtown Chandler experience was
nothing like yours. Like that, there's a there's a golf
cart era for you know, like we didn't have that.
You know, Socalos was still there, there was Jack in
(04:50):
the Box. The whole downtown Movie.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Theater was not a bunch of good a bunch of
good Mexican spots though I guarantee that was that was
still still there. But yeah, I mean that was kind
of transitioning. Whenever I was there, it was still a
little bit, you know, Chandler was kind of the down
downtown area was still kind of like the down end.
But I mean, i mean, you know, right now, it's
it's pretty nice.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Yeah, it's everything. Bro. When I went to high school,
literally there was a ton of smaller houses that was
getting decimated. It was like we used to call the
body like it was just all all straight rows of
houses that we ended up taking over and then making
super nice once I left and I said, dang, yeah,
got good. Now, Okay, we love love to see it.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
So it's kind of it's kind of popping up all over.
I mean, especially Chandler in general, but the entire valley.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Is Scottsdale is absurd. You used to, like everybody used
to want to like dip into Scottsdale. Now people are
just coming from everywhere. Ye l a l a. People
are coming in with cash see cash by Seattle, just
messing up a whole Like.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
I'm like, it used to be a civilized state. Now
just a bunch of Californians.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
But a whole bunch of Californians kind of vegan and
vegan my spot up. I think, Uh, what you do?
What took you to Oregon? How did you get to
Oregon originally from you know, from.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
Yeah, so my mom was originally from there, and I
had some family there actually oddly enough in Eugene and
like Salem area, so there was a bit of a connection.
But I didn't get offers till kind of later in
my career because that was kind of the influx. I
was on the first junior starter in my like school's
history since ninety seven or something, and it's when you
(06:36):
were in like your fourth year in the league, I
think at that point. And I don't remember when that
was for you, but it was a long time and
Oregon kind of came came on and at the time,
Justin Herbert was playing and is maybe considering leaving or staying,
so it was kind of a good opportunity to go
either going there and learn grow and then maybe compete
(06:58):
for the job. And he ended up staying in both
those years. And it was pretty sweet kind of coming
in and you off the bat. I mean, I was
like six four, one hundred and eighty five pounds. I
was like stick thin, just the absolute, like fricking tool,
thinking you're the best thing ever, as everyone does coming
out of high school. And getting next to her and
(07:18):
he's like six six two forty I'm like, yeah, I
gotta get a lot better and yeah, and he's ripping
like forty yard hole shots and just all I mean,
it was. It was awesome. But obviously I met my
wife there her family, so it was it was kind
of a really cool, kind of full circle moment met
like all my closest friends are still there, so I
(07:40):
was happy I went, and then you know, COVID hit
and then the journey continues through through all that Attech
and Louisville and with a few injuries.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
No doubt. So do you so with the National Championship
coming up? What next week? We got SEMIS tomorrow Thursday? Yeah,
Semis Thursday. Yeah? You do you root for organ still?
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (08:03):
Yeah. I mean the recent game, the Oregon Tech one
was was tough because it's I had people, I had
people on both sides and I was like, ah this yeah,
Like everyone's asking me. I'm like, dude, I don't know
if I can answer right now, because then either one
side is gonna you know.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Kill you.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Uh yeah. All the support staff. I actually was just
in Eugene recently, all the trainers, a lot of the
strength coaches, like all those people are still the same,
and I mean they're the best, so kind of being
able to actually go train there for a little bit
do some rehab, so I was. I was definitely rooting
for them. A couple of my former roommates, Ryan walk
shout out him. He's coaching for the team. He's coaching
(08:43):
the old line and he's got those those boys dialed.
So I just kind of happy to they obviously wanted
on a big victory. But at Tech too, I got
some of my former teammates, so it was kind of
a kind of an interesting deal. But I hope they
want it now. I think I get their their lick
back against Indiana, right, you know former.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
Cal quarterback and Mendoz over there.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Yeah, how are you rooting for them boys? Or is
it you know.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
I've got I got an interest because it's there, But
I'm not really split orgon my my d line coach
when I was at Cal has now been named are
now the defensive coordinator over to Oregon toash lupoys now
been named the Cal he's your head coach. So you know,
bring bring home an accolades. You need big big dog
(09:33):
and all recruits. Hey, come on, big fella, come on
Cal Go Bears love that. Yeah, you know, it's always
a great connection. I think about this though. You finish,
you finish the Louisville you come to. You come to
the New Orleans Saints training camp. You know, rather starts
you get a chance you turn up from there. Uh.
(09:54):
Now at the end of the year, I can finally ask,
do you understand that that the Atlanta Falcons New Orleans
Saints rival you just yet? Like you yet?
Speaker 2 (10:02):
It's yeah, I mean, I don't know, it's probably the
only I'm glad, you know, I'm glad we finished strong,
but we we had this. I got this, this bad
taste in my mouth, especially lose to those guys with
kind of our team. And but yeah, I see I'm
starting to rub starting to rub off on me. Your
your hatred for him.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
I got a lot of hate for him.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Yeah, I got a lot. I love it. I love it.
I think it's gonna it's just fuel the fire. And
I think, you know, we we're gonna kind of shore
up this offseason, get the right pieces, get everybody you know,
having that sense of urgency, and we're gonna hit the
ground running.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
No, we all like I'm I'm I'm still just watching Tiger.
I saw we just signed a wide receiver from the
CFL that's like six five, I think, yeah, big big
man blasters coming through a big fellow. Yeah, Chris o'live
say up and just keep on adding these numbers. We
get Bud, we get above means back next year, you know,
like wide receive room.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Looks different traded for him. I mean there's a lot
of a lot of a lot of great pieces that
I felt like kind of people were obviously understandably hadn't
played a little bit, but just kind of sleeping on
where they're gonna be great additions. And then you got
obviously the draft, free agency stuff like that, where who
knows men? I mean, shoot my money. This time last year, man,
I was on anybody's radar, you know. I mean had
(11:20):
to kind of go through the whole process and wake
some people up, and got to turn on the tape
and and go through the Senior Bowl, and like, who
knows who might kind of flash in four months, you know,
and we might be picking somebody and and some great
things could happen.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Absolutely, that's I need great things to happen. Who come
on year sixteen? Yeah? Yeah, a little he got that
got that juice? Man?
Speaker 2 (11:43):
You still? I mean, how about ten and a half sacks?
I was coming here drafted. I was like, man, this
is gonna be freaking sweet playing with Cam. I've been
looking up that. I'm like, he's probably just like that
old dog that's just on his way out.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
No, he's bawling. Man, he's man, he's with you or.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
For I'm like, dude, this is this is actually awesome,
and I mean it's I appreciate all the stuff that
you put in Sorcifrice because it's a I mean, it's
a big influence on me. How you take care of
your body, how you prepare, how you motivate guys. So
I hopefully, hopefully, you know, hopefully you are back with
us again. I know you you know, I know if
you can you will.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
Be absolutely yeah, we'll see, we'll see time of tel
the first time I've never been on the contractor this
is just weird. You know, when does my face stop
working on the facial recognition.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
Run? Is Jay Roman gonna start blocking the gatee?
Speaker 1 (12:35):
Or you like, hey, Cam, that first spot next to
the door and that's no longer your spot, move on.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
I don't know if that will ever happen to be,
to be honest, you could, you could, you could go
to you can go the Buccaneers and they'd probably be
like all right, yeah, I mean you can come grab
your stuff.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
This is this is a surprising animosity now between the
Buccaneers and the Saints. These games have gotten chippier. I'm
not even sure win. But you know, the Buccaneers swear
we have a rivalry going on.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
Oh good, yeah good. I think that's that's a good thing.
We want to. I mean, we should have a rivalry
with every team that we play, and especially.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Too much hate. I can't hate everybody.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
Gotta have that, gotta have that hate in your heart. Man,
start to turning on some, I mean, especially especially those guys.
I mean, yeah, they got a good squad that I mean, shoot,
we were one game away from them being in the playoffs,
and I think I think you got it. You got
to take it to them. Man, I think that's that's
a that's a fun part I've been learning. It's just
(13:39):
you got so many good, so many good teams in
the NFL in general. But I mean our division, I
know it was kind of a down year record wise,
but I feel like we kind of come on strong.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
As absolutely, I mean swept swept the team that won
the division.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Yeah, I know that's a I don't see that every
day for sure, but right little bit, I'm actually sick.
I mean, I I know there's a lot of factors
that go into everything, but man, I know I know.
I think it all happens for a reason.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
Though, absolutely, I mean, you got you gotta learn. You know,
there's got to be a learning curve somewhere. Hopefully, hopefully
couple of years from now, we'll be like, man, remember
when Saint's just won six games and now look at us,
hopefully back in the time of the division. You get
the things that you got to work for because you
never know such a that's why it sucks, because it's
such a great locker room this year.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
No, I know. I mean that's that's kind of an
interesting for me because I feel like everybody's been so
close and our record hasn't reflected it. But I think
it's cool kind of hear from you. It's like, oh man,
this is isn't normal. I know, it's kind of hasn't
been what we wanted, but I think it's a formula
for success. When you got people buying in, you got
everybody's belief, you got everybody hanging out outside of the
(14:47):
facility doing things like that's what that's what matters, No doubts.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
I mean, I think I think I even made two
Office of Line dinners this year. I said, No, I
was like, man, I just want to be around the gap. Yeah,
he's a caesar. He's there, McCoy. You know you you
guys show up, tight ends, show up. I'm like, this
is low key, okay.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
Yeah, you pulled up. You pulled up to why dinner
as well? That was That was That was sick.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
That was I mean, for you know, they said rookie dinner.
I said, yeah, I'm sure I'm coming. Let's say, yeah, tacos.
In fact, I'm double down.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
Yeah, free, free food. Absolutely, And I mean that's the
type of stuff you want. I mean, like I want
to do that forever. Just have like an open invite
to everyone to come, like pull up, like we're all
We're all kicking it, no doubt. And I think it
starts starts with starts with you, starts with the leaders.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
Absolutely. What what did it feel like taking over starting
job week nine? Like, how how was it?
Speaker 2 (15:38):
I mean, you're clearly prepared, but no, I mean that
was short answer. It didn't feel any different, But that
was because of how hard it was to start. Like
I was kind of being able to talk to to
Drew Brees and talk and like the coaches did a
great job, but I was like super intentional about making
my preparation and the process and shoot going against you
(16:03):
and every every single day and practice on scout team,
like I wanted to make that like as game like
and as real as if I was playing. And there
was a lot of disappointing moments whenever you're obviously not
playing and we lose some games, and but kind of
sticking to that that way, when I just got my
opportunity in the game, you know, I wasn't gonna flinch
and just go I mean that kind of helped me
out throughout my entire career in college as well. Just
(16:26):
go out there and just rip it. You know, you
got you got nothing to lose. That was my mindset,
Like obviously everybody has something to lose, you know, you're
in the NFL. There's a lot at stake. But my
mindset was like, I'm not even supposed to be here,
you know, I'm how many times got injured or kind
of counted out or hated on, Like, might as well
just go have fun with it. You got nothing to lose,
and you often end up playing better that way anyway.
(16:48):
So it you know, it was a long kind of journey,
but it was it helped me out so much whenever
you got it because as you know, you've been playing
every single game in your career and you gotta stay ready.
So you don't have you don't have to get ready.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
Absolutely, and you took over with Storm, so and so
I feel like people underestimated your athletic ability because like you,
you take off cat like you really roll and turn
corners on people.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
I'm telling you, man, it helps with a little bit
left melanin in my skin. But I mean got I got,
I got.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
A little bit, a little bit of honey. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
Uh, but you got only gotta pull it, pull it
out every now and again. And you know I want
to I want to stand in there and rip it
cond disperse it to the playmakers, people who get paid
to to really carry the ball. But you at at
this level, you got guys like yourself like you can't
stay there forever. You gotta change the pocket. You gotta
(17:42):
get out of there and make them play sometimes. And
I think that's where the league is kind of going.
And and a lot of this is success QB's are
having is is using their legs.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
Bro. I still, you know what, explain to me this?
Because since I got you in here, roll uh, last
game Atlanta Falcons. You you almost get set in the
pocket going into end zone through a dot across the
body to Kevin Austin for what should have been a touchdown.
And I'm still confused on what the what. I didn't
even what they call it. They called OPI like I was,
(18:14):
I saw a ref do something. I said, what the
what the flying forty seven? I said, what the hell
is going on? This is the then and then I
started like I went the opposite west. So it's always
it's always us at this house.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
I don't know, dude, it was. It wasn't even a
reb content. Like there's plays, you know in the offenses
designing the red zone to where if you're within that
one yard and you can block the guy or you
can pick them and maybe he backs up the two
yards and there's kind of stuff that happens and you're like, ah,
we tried to get away with it, or and we
did it, we got called and it's like, you know, shoot,
but like that one, like you're just trying to like
(18:48):
just get people moving and running, and it was like
a just a it was a car crash. People just
kind of accidentally ran in into each other and I
think the DV kind of like, you know, fell like
into the stands or something. Then it was just like,
oh my gosh. I didn't even know what happened. I
just remember getting popped by to the d lineman and
you stepped into it, Bro and just kind of looked
(19:09):
at him, and I was like, let's go. And yeah,
obviously a crucial play, but you know it kind of
it happens. It's part of the game. You know, there's
a discretion element to it. But at that point mid
play kind of randomness of that, you know, we weren't
trying to pick anybody.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
Right man, that it was like a collapse play. You
stepped up, are you shrugged off a sack? Knowinger was
coming down the gullet, you know, like you know what
fireball hum. Yeah. But I was like, how where does that?
Where does that come from? That growing and comfort level?
You know? What was that like with each start or
being able to stand in the pocket, that gunslinger mentality.
(19:48):
I'm lucky I've never had to see somebody like coming
down the alley straight into a shoulder or whatever. It is.
The worst thing I get is like a motioning wide
receiver chip or motion tight end chip.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
Yeah, you just bound. Yeah, you know, I think it's
a it's kind of the just to grow through it.
You know, I think, like you said in training camp,
you know that's a play we run every single you know,
almost every single practice started from training camp on. And
you know, there was a rep where I kind of
scrambled around and had a bad throat or something like
(20:21):
that threw it away, and like, you know, obviously the
notion that you got a five man russ there trying
to get bigs on big and create one on one.
So there's gonna be you're not hot, but you're warm.
You gotta be able to step up, create some plays
and instead of escaping, a lot of guys people want
to back up, you know, take two hands off, take
one hand off the ball and go willy nilly. And
I think just the continual growth through I mean having
(20:45):
that playing scouteing, having you freaking coming off your edge
and I got to escape and step up, and it
was kind of a full circle moment to where the
last play and it was all those factors And yeah,
I mean whenever you you're staring down the staring down
the gun, you just gotta take you gotta take it. Yeah,
I mean it's it's always a better feeling you make
the throw and you get popped rather than you know,
(21:07):
maybe you try and shy away from it and you
miss it. Or I think it's kind of that same notion,
like you know you're gonna get shipped. You know you
got this one on one. Yeah, you gotta part of
the part of the job description.
Speaker 1 (21:23):
Absolutely, those Scout Scout team reps that you talked about.
I mean, how important is that? Is the value in
there in the training camp or is it more like
actual once we get down to practice, once you start
game planning and you're you know, we're downing the blitz.
Is it so you're seeing actual, you know, perfunctory defenses
more so than just a bland Hey, everybody gets the
(21:44):
same stuff.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Yeah. No, I think it's both. Because you got it,
you're gonna see both in the flow of a game.
But like training camp, the struggle is, you know, we're
both going through installs and you know, today you guys
might install Cover six and you're gonna see splits. Safety
might install you know, Cover nine, and or you might
have some designer blitzes and we're installing I don't know
a couple of screen paths or we're installing based stuff too,
(22:08):
so you're trying to make that play look good. But
most often times and not it's not like you guys
are putting in something that's not great either, unless you
know you're just getting manned and you're still learning the language.
So I think for me it was just kind of
growing learning all those things, mastering the offense, and then
now you get to kind of season and scout team.
(22:30):
Now you're just playing football and now you're just reacting,
and now you kind of bridge that with the install
of a game plan element and then you can kind
of just fly from there. So and I think that
was the coolest part with being able to kind of
get full speed reps at all, that when now you
got the offense down, now you can kind of keep
going and there's no like unknowness.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
Right, I mean, for sure, I think I've said it
in my mind the last six years. I said, I
don't know training gemping's worth it when I look at it,
just like the volume of plays that you have and
like it's always so bro give me, like I don't
need to know three hundred plays going into practice. Give
me to game week where we have boom.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
This is our call feet yeah give me that was
where you I don't know if you remember, just my
performance is in the scrimmages or the preseason games.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
And you know, I feel like that was when I
was playing my best because we got our we got
our plays. You know that was you know at the
time we didn't have our full offense. But this is
our place, is our script and now we're just calling
it and you're just playing against defenses. You're just playing
rather than you know, the scripted periods and stuff like that.
Where I totally agree. You got a bunch of different things,
and it's part of it. You got to get the reps.
(23:46):
You got to build the team, the team chemistry over time,
you got to build the repertoire of the plays. But
now I think you're right though, I think, I mean,
you know it better anybody else. Over time, like there's
an element of like let's just let's.
Speaker 1 (23:58):
Get my bullets, but live bullets like that. That's when
it matters. I say, O, people can go undefeated in
preseason or lose all their games in preseason. Don't hold
no way, no what we're bringing to the table week
one does not mean anything for preseason at all, Like
that's just trying to figure out the roster spots or
trying to get familiar with your offensive defense, like getting.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
Again getting reps in for young guys or stuff like
that where you can kind of build a you know,
a film catalog. And and for first a young guy
like me, it was it was beneficial to to kind
of just play a little bit. But like you said,
there's not there's not not much of a real element,
you know, especially when you're you're coming in and but
(24:41):
it helped me out so much. First game, You're going
against you know, Vidavea and Antoine Winfield and you know,
all these guys, and you got the Rams and actually
the Panthers and and these really high level defenses. And
that was the best thing for me to just kind
of just go throw thrown into the fire and go operate.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
Absolutely think think about that throwing from the fire. Our monoker.
What our mantra this year was tough together enjoy Kellen moorees.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
And I was like, oh, for guys, just go.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
For does he actually get mad? I haven't? Does he like,
because in our interactions he's just so level headed, cool,
He's like, hey, man, this is what like this, and
I appreciate it and at the same time, like I
needed a mother for somebody.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Like, yeah, I remember him getting mad in training camp
for during like walkthroughs, and I think maybe a cuss word,
slipt out and I was like, oh my god. Well,
it's like it's like it's kind of like a disappointed
it's almost worse. Like he's like gets disappointed and it's
like as a you know, you're to your dad, like
(25:47):
your dad gets disappointed in you or your grandpa and
you're just like, oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I yeah, right,
rather than like somebody I don't know, but there's kind
of a tongue in cheek ole in the but like
short answer is he's the same dude. Like like you said,
like he's the same dude. He's very analytical, very smart. Yeah,
(26:07):
he'll get upset and he'll get annoyed, he'll get disappointed,
but like he's not that's not who he is. He's
not he's not an mf or and and that's that's fine,
you don't I think as long as he's the same
guy every day, and that's what why you know, I
respect him.
Speaker 1 (26:20):
Yeah, I mean this this coaching staff Kellen Staley, Uh,
you know my guy Jay Rodgers, my position coach Jay Rodgers.
This is the most texting savvy group I've ever been
a part of. Like they text everything like hey, I
was thinking about this as this or hey, like what
do you think about you know this blitz or what
is Yeah, I'm like, bro, this open line of communication
(26:43):
I've heard like you know in my mind it's like
hey coach, you know I need to come talk to
you or hey Kim, you know, come talk to me
up top or something like that. They just like text
it out immediately like random thoughts. Middle of the day.
Jay Rodgers will like shoot us a text like hey guys,
I don't know if you saw this clip, and he
just like sends it mm hmm. I'll say, you know,
I never had a coach like this.
Speaker 2 (27:02):
Yeah, it's like it's kind of real. I mean that's
kind of how like I mean, your friends, your your
your mentors communicate like hey, this is what I'm thinking.
Like that's how call and I text a bunch like hey,
this is what we're thinking with this week? Resist covers
or like what do you like this week? Just popping
it and it just kind of stirs these this dialogue
and these ideas that get going. And then because that's
(27:24):
how it is on game day, you know, like hey,
what are you seeing here? Or I'm thinking this play call?
And and I think he's really elite at that, and
like that's cool to hear from the defensive coaches as well,
just having that open communication and because it is a
collaborative effort, like we do well, they do well, you
know what I mean, Like we were trying to be here.
So I don't think there needs to be like a
(27:46):
I mean, there is a hierarchy for sure, but like
it doesn't need to be like a detriment like archy. Yeah,
there is a hierarchy, but like there doesn't need to
be like I'm talking down to you, you know, like, hey,
we're trying. Let's let's let's all be great.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
Yeah, I'm exactly that. That's what I said that that
tough Together Joy I said, hell yeah, I said, Monday
through Saturday, I'm with it. Tough together Joy. Somewhere in
the season you heard me ran ale off in the
locker room. We were down. He's like Kellen was like, hey,
it's tough together, Joy, I said, fuck that that joy
ship right now. I was like I need I was,
I was like, I got pissing vinegar for you. I
was like, with the tough, I'm with it together. Everything
(28:21):
we do gotta be that way. But I need I
don't need a smile to be out here. We're down.
We got to swing our way back in and then
of course, you know, we we go out there and
whatever the game was when loser draw, like we we
came close or succeeded expectation. The craziest stat is like
we never gave back a lead once we got it.
You know, if we captured the lead, we never gave
(28:43):
you back. So yeah, man, I said, all we need
to do is is get up by one. If we
can get up by one, we won.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
Yeah, that's a good that's good. That's a good thing.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
Man.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
You gotta I mean, we had a couple of comebacks too.
We got I think else we got to figure out
a way to start faster. I don't know what. I
don't know what it looks like, but coming out figuring
out a way to take take them out there. How,
I mean, we had a oh you got I'm more
of a question for you. I don't know if we
gotta start later, we gotta drink some more coffee in
the morning.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
Or we gotta I don't drink coffee.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
Your coffee, you're just I mean whatever. I don't know.
I'm just saying whatever it tasts. Maybe you gotta start
fucking drinking coffee cans.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
That's what I say. May i'mnna Get'm gonna get the
little spresso machine. I know, I know the uh the
tight ends of the quarterback room probably got one those
little fancy I'm gonna go get me one of them Froppe's.
Is that the ice joint. I'm gonna go. I'm gonna
start coffee next year. You're sixteen coffee coming.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
Just just just start changing it now. You gotta go
through your process. I'll, i'll, I'll handle the.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
I think oh man, I think that. Yeah. I think
that that start fast works both ways, because it'll be
like some leaky covers the defensive do and we'll let
up like three or seven points at first drive near
every time. I'm like bro, and then pitch a hell
of a game. You know, like if we could just
eliminate that or you know, we have those random pilties
(30:08):
those first like six games it was like we were
one of the most penalized teams in the league.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Yeah, I mean that was likewise, I think on offense,
there was there's too many so I that was a story.
There's too many times where you're coming in like, hey
this is and we shorted up a little bit, but
just just Caden like Caden stuff, jumping off sides, you know, penalties.
I think that's probably a definitely an area of emphasis
going to this offseason, starting in OTAs like hey, we're
(30:34):
like the standard set, like we we know what what
it looks like. We can't can't take anything less.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
No doubt. Uh, this offseason looking forward to anything I heard.
I heard you you're you're staying here. This is this offseason.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
I'll be here for sure. I got I got baby
boy on the way, so we're staying in New Orleans,
and uh, I'm excited though it's kind of I mean,
it's been a while, but for you since the rookie season,
but rookie year obviously there's a lot of a lot
of go, go go, so it's kind of finally being
able to kind of relax a little bit, and you know,
(31:06):
we got you know, I mean, my thing is is
like I got drafted here. We're living here now. It's
kind of a new home element. You know, I'm why
not kind of be around the community, around everybody. And
you know, my wife, Jordan, she's been she's been great
this whole year. So we're kind of excited. Just kind
of take a deep breath and you know, hopefully do
some Marty grass stuff and then and then kind of
(31:27):
hit the ground run again. This is actually a great question.
Do you have any drivable beach just destinations that would
be great? Yeah, I go a great staycation weekend that
we can go before for the baby.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
Mm hmmm, Dustin. It's like a couple hour drive. Somebody's
gonna tell you Orange Beach, no and handle. Yeah, Destin
is beautiful.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
You got to you got like a vacation home that
I can, like you just slid or something.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
Well, I might have a guy, you know, a little
loud okay in the thirty A area, a little really
whatever that is Rosewater Rose something. Yeah, guy, you know,
I gotta I got a guy for a lot of things. Man,
have a guy. Let's go my connects to your connects.
But appreciate you for for Jordan off the edge, Bro

(32:14):
time where you could be spending your time with you
with Jordan. I love that we complete you know, you
guys complete me. You know I'm Cameron, you're Jordan's and.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
The dope first names many.
Speaker 1 (32:25):

I forgot dude, Yes, that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (32:34):

king Jordan. You got the Jordan brand. She's been rocking
Jordan brand forever. Yeah, that's that's actually epic. I forgot
about that, man. I appreciate you have me on. It's
a it's actually an honor.
Speaker 1 (32:52):

Speaker 2 (32:52):
I obviously look out to you and hope, hope we're
rocking it again.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
