Speaker 1 (00:07):
Here we go. It's off the edge of me, your host,
Cam Jordan.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
I'm super excited because when I'm in off season, I'm
eating what I want.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
You know, I'm sort of slowly headed.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Towards offensive lineman territory of egregious way over. You know,
we'll talk about it, but it's not about me. It's
not about you know, off the edge of the podcast
because honestly, it's just a vehicle where I get to
talk to my really good friends across the league. We
get to talk good ball. We gotta talk about, you know,
how our days going, how our life is going. You know,
the season that we're putting together. Like this guy Eric Armstad,
(00:39):
who has put together so many different years together as
an and as an edge, as a d tackle, a
man who you really can't put in a position, eleven
seasons deep, seventeenth overall from the twenty fifteenth draft class.
I mean, he's got his own podcast called Third and Long.
A defensive lineman out of Oregon currently with the jack Huars.
You know who who had a top tier defense this year?
(01:00):
Comeing and my guy Eric Armstead, Oh my bat, Walter
Payton man the year we're winning Pro.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Bowler what's up, Bro, Appreciate you having me on the show.
Big fan of the show. Love what you do with
your with your brand and with your platform. Bro, So
it's honor to join you. Man. Yeah, you know, we
sort of got the same hair hairstyle right now. You
you know, I d m J. I was like, Bro,
you you got some you'r aesthetic as bipolar. Bro. I
(01:26):
don't know what you be going for each and every
all season, but hey, a minimum schizophreny of me, Bro.
I like this one though. I'm not gonna lie. This
one's smooth.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Hey, bro, you know, I'm just I'm in my life.
I'm trying to be the best soccer player. I could
be FIFA World Cup coming up. I'm trying to blend there,
you know, getting no service, you know, I'm really just
trying to feel my best Dominican player.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
I could be. No. This one's smooth. This I feel
like this one of your your better ones. It definitely
make you look a lot younger, which is which is
a good thing. As we are, you know, as you know,
and they're trying to throw age out there quick. He's
thirty six. Yeah I am, and I.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Feel phenomenal, you know how do you feel about after
at the end of this season? You know, every season
has its ups and downs. Every season you're like, dang,
I feel good this year, or damn, it's gonna take
me a while to heal up. Where are you at
with it?
Speaker 1 (02:17):
I actually feel great. It's probably the best I felt
in the off season, man, in a couple of years.
To be honest, body feels good, body feels great. To
be honest with you, decided to have a healthy off season,
kicking with the fam, you know, do some of my
other things that I have planned, and then get back
(02:39):
to training and looking forward to you know, another great
season next year. But now I'm feeling good, bro. To
be honest with you, how you feel, man, I feel phenomenal? Uh.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
In my mind, I was like, yo, I wish I
would have felt like this after year eleven. Of year twelve,
there was them after year ten, there was like eleven twelve,
I think like thirteen.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
I was like, yo, it's taking me two three. He
must he healed. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Now I started playing pick aball literally two days after.
Like I was pissed off the season was over. I
got like I started. I found myself at the bottle.
There's really good tequila bottle called House Rare. They came
out with the Castle Quinn or whatever.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
You know.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
I can't even put up out there tequila, and I
was like, you know what, I've got to be better.
And then I started playing pickaball, So I've been good.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Now that's what's up. I felt. I don't know, bro,
it's weird. I feel like like as you progress in
your career, it's certain like plateaus that like you break
through and then you know, your body just feels a
certain way. I don't know if it's the age thing
or whatever, but I feel like years. Once I got
to year seven, I was like, ooh, started feeling a
little different. Then I hit like, you know, ten or eleven,
(03:45):
I'm like, actually feel straight. You know, I don't feel
too bad, you know for you you know you got
another block from from where I'm att and you know
I'm interned. Year twelve. You know you got a whole
nother block, so you're sixteen coming up. Yeah, I think
it's just hissuing in waves. Bro. It's like sometimes it's
like you feel good and then sometimes like your body's
telling you, like, bro, what you doing? Bro? You need
(04:06):
to need to chill out y. I ain't even got
no chill bro. I'm all go.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
This is the first time I've even never I've never
not had a contract. I've never not played for guaranteed money,
never not had a contract going.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
This is the first time I'm like, hey, yo, what
off season? Like? Is there such a thing as as
a market for a year sixteen player? I mean gotta
be seen.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
Kalais Campbell hit the market like five times since the Jaguars.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
That market is there, and you know, some of the
some of the conversations I've been having, you know with
people is like defensive line, especially bigger guys like you know,
yourself and myself, Like our production, you know, and what
we can bring to the game, it doesn't diminish much
even as we enter you know, early thirties, mid thirties,
(04:56):
late thirties, like because our skill set is still there.
You know, we're big bodies, so we can take you
built off power, guess what, and then you add a
little skill to that. And so if you look around
the league, there's a lot of guys, you know, kind
of in that bracket. You know, I feel like you're
definitely one of them that set the stage like of
(05:19):
the type of production and you know, still ascending in
your career even as you age and like defensive linemen
like I feel like we're built for that. Absolutely. I mean,
you know, year fifteen, you go ten and half sex deep.
Oh got it? Talk about it.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
We got a little ten piece and a biscuit. Tell
my young boy, you put you know you've missed out.
Chase Young win news at the night And I played
with Chase for one year. Yeah, there we go. So
I told Chase, you know, i'd be like, I'd be
like ribbon them, like, hey, bro, until you get ten sacks,
like you really not a pass rucier, so you better
start playing the run.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Hey.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
But like I said, if you if you don't touch,
he would have got too.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
I was proud of him, bro, I was. I was
definitely proud of him to see that. You know, Chase
been through a lot in his career. The talent always
been there, you know. He came out popped off on
the scene, dealing with injuries and then came back, you
know with a reinsurgence. So I'm actually that's my little homie. Man.
I'm proud of him. Man, That's what I said. He
but he he missed the first five, so really he
(06:16):
did he had ten to like twelve, twelve games or something.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Yeah, yeah, that's what I say. I said, Hey, I said,
you're a pastor. Now, hey go sturtch those we was
playing at Lanta last game. That boy said, let's stop
playing me. But he's talking to his own like I said, Oh,
I said, the world might have messed up because now
he to figure out his get off plus his lean nature.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
What happened with y'all? Though? I feel like y'allre playing
really good football down the stretch. Yeah. Yeah, for whatever reason,
not even for whatever reason. If you look at our schedule, bro,
we out of our first seven games, all of them
hit the playoffs. Chef for the Cardinals. You know what
I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
I said, damn said, we got young quarterback. We're trying
to figure some stuff out of the offense. Yeah, and
we're catching.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
Drake May we catch and Sam Darnold, we're catching the Rams.
We're catching. I was, god, damg it, can we can
we ease in? Yeah? Go ahead, get run me the Giants. Thanks.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
You know, we started off with Cardinals. I was like,
all right, cool, that's a little warm up. All right,
I see how you know Cardinals always start off hot.
You know, they're like, you know, they come out first
four games by and take everybody. But oh it's happening.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Yeah, you know, yes, I definitely notice, you know, down
stretch how y'all definitely turned it up and playing some
really good football. So that was cool to see.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
You know.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Uh, there's a little buzzing around the city. You know
what I'm saying, like y'all got like y'all got something,
you know on the way, you know, we hope.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
So Tyler Schuck sort of took over like we you
know whatever, the eight nine whatever, and then't really look back,
you know, had a really strong showing, started winning them games,
you know, with the young with the young team, you know,
take me tomorrow out of it.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
But like a young core team, upcoming team, you have
to figure out how to win.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Winning is not something you just fall into. It's it's
earned behavior, not a learned behavior. You know, you're like, oh, man,
we used to win with Drew. Drew's gone. Now we're
trying to figure it out. Man, Ben nine quarterbacks in
five years, brother, we know.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
Yeah, Drew Drew Ben gone.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Bruell me tell me tell me about the researchers y'all
had on defense. Y'all sort of had like a low
year last year, but then we's start of turning up.
Bro started watching it, I was sort of exciting.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Yeah, I mean, you know, like like any season, ups
and downs, but I feel like, first and foremost, we uh,
we got talent on every level of our defense up front,
linebackers crazy, and we got talent in the back end too,
Guys that were getting the ball out the air this
year at a crazy rate, which you know really didn't
(08:49):
happen the previous year. And so Anthony Kevinelli coming in,
our defensive coordinator, he bringing that fire, that energy, that
belief in uh, in all all of us. And you know, guys,
you know, we're just kind of fed up, bro, you
know what I'm saying, Like, you know, fed up of
being at the bottom of the league, fed up of
(09:10):
uh not having no respect, and you know, you gotta
go take respect in this league. And so I think
as a group, we carried that on our shoulders and
we went out there and you know, play some pretty
good football and got things turned around. Number one run
defense in the NFL, which I pride myself on and
like I feel like it always starts there. You can't
stop the run. They can't have no fun. Yeah, you
(09:32):
gotta stop the run to have fun. Bro. So definitely
proud of that and proud of the guys. Bro. Like
some guys you know all pro Devin Lloyd went crazy
this year. You know, got guys up front were bawling. Josh,
Josh heyines Allen had a crazy year. Fer Uh, Trevon
(09:54):
Walker doing he started, he starting to come to his own.
He got that speed to power that people are not like,
I don't know why they're not respecting this man's power
role because he is smaller body. Yeah, so Treyvon had
had ten ten sacks the last two years. This year
he dealt with some injuries. But when he was when
he was healthy, Bro, he was going crazy. So he
(10:15):
about to get a big bag as well too. But yeah, man,
we we got some dogs, bro, guys that you know
love playing the game, and so it was fun to
fun to take the field with him and you know,
be that you know, veteran leadership presence.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
I'm not gonna lie bro that that Josh heines Allen
be throwing me off from Josh Allen.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
He just threw a random ketchup in there. I said, wait,
wait a minute, yeah it was it was it was
something he'd been thinking about doing for a while, just
a way to, you know, show love to both sides
of his family. And but yeah, it's it, definitely. I
asked him a couple of weeks ago. I might have like,
do has it settled in? You know, like Josh Heinz Allen,
has it settled in? Like is that like the new
(10:58):
norm for you? Or is it still a little weird.
He was like, it's kind of, you know, it's kind
of settling in. But you know, he broke the record
in Heines Allen two franchise sack record this year, so yeah,
definitely proud of that boy already. So now he's just
the new standard, new standard. Bro's it's only it's only
up for here, right, he already broke down. I figured,
Yanna put some numbers up, duty, dude, put some numbers up.
(11:21):
There's another guy played.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
Curse, maybe like the freak I had to think about,
like the pastor of Saxonville. No, Saxonville was with short
stint guys.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
But yeah, there was another guy. I guess there a
guy named Tony Brackens who played there for some first
some years. He had the record and then before Josh
broke it. So I mean, just this is just the
spaces loan. What was like nine bacant head coach jobs
that that was? I think it was ten at one point.
It was crazy. It was crazy.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
You know, you had, uh the Steelers head coach Mike
Thomas stepped down and I was like, bro, what's it
been like?
Speaker 1 (11:53):
Nineteen years in John horbro eighteen years in then McDermott.
McDermott was the shocker too.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
Man said, it was just spots popping up, you know,
Morris out of out of Atlanta.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
I said, I said, wait a minute, he's doing he
was doing a good job. Yeah, I don't I don't
know what it. I don't know what it is. But
the owners was the owners was fed up. I said,
how you get fed up of going to the playoff?
Like they was fed up this year? Bro Man, No all,
y'all gotta go. I said. Even the bills though, like
(12:27):
that's crazy. Bro. Shop was a great coach, right They
that definitely was a shocker. Yeah, crazy, But they named
Joe Brady the head coach today I just saw that. God.
I mean you figure they hired from within. It's like
you fired Sean McDermott. I mean you look at that.
(12:47):
They got to keep somewhat of a culture there.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
You know what I'm saying, Like if you if you
fire a coach that got you to the playoffs every year
for the last like five.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
I don't know what they I don't know what they
expect Joe Brady to do, right, Like, is it just
gonna be like a new message or right? I would say.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
I mean, you know, Joe Bratty's young, so he's bringing energy,
he's bringing vibes.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
He was he started off as an assistant coach at
the Saints, so I know him. Well, oh you doing okay? Yeah,
so a little familiarity, you know, he's he's definitely coming
in there. Uh, Falcon's head coach. They just announced. But
it was a Stefanski. You saw that beef. You saw
that beef with Baker Mayfield happen. Yeah, I don't know
what that was about. Came from far left from that,
(13:29):
came out of nowhere. Bron Brad must have had a
flashback when he's seen that or something. Hey, you know
what I sort of liked it too. I said, you
know he's in division, so yeah, you gotta see you
twice a year. That boy came out of left. Yeah.
I got smoke for you every time I see you. Yeah, Nah, Baker,
Baker definitely got a chip on his shoulder, as he should,
(13:50):
bro number one pick. You know things that work out
in Cleveland, shout around to a few teams landing in
temples of that. And then I've seen the picture where
they had him praying practice practice squad defensive line. I said,
oh yeah, that they was doing him dirty.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
Bro.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
They was trying to bury him. I was trying to
bury him. What Geno say? They wrote me off? But
I ain't right fire? Whoa. That's it. That brings a
whole new question. But we'll talk about it.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
I mean, just you you talk about what charge the
Chargers of defensive coordinator goes over to the Ravens as
their head coach, Jesse Mentor you've got Packers uh decordinator
Jeff Haley. Uh went to the Dolphins head coach. You know,
the Dolphins head coach. Now he's the OCU at the Chargers.
It's like a shuffle. It's like it's like a coach shuffle.
(14:50):
In my mind sometimes coaching just not even maybe not
the head coach, but once once the head coach gets
filled in, it's about who you know. You know, like
some of the these guys, some of these hires. You
be like, bro, he don't really know ball for real.
But then it's like a position coach and he'd be like, yo,
that's not gonna work out. Well yeah, I mean I
had that run in. I said, how did he get hired?
(15:11):
I said, I don't even know if he can read.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
He can't read. He can't read a defense. This man
just throwing random stuff in and he's like, hey man,
this gonna work. Heause I can tell you, Bro, I
had I've had a position gouse. You're like, hey man,
I can tell you it's gonna be run or past.
Ninety percent of the time he threw the clips together
and was wrong. Fifty percent of time. He's like, this
right here, gonna be running. It was a pass. I said, hey,
hold you love.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
Like, oh man, I remind how did this guy get hired?
Speaker 1 (15:38):
I don't know, Bro, it'd be it'd be it'd be crazy.
If you've been in this for for quite some time, Bro,
there's definitely some great coaches out there, phenomenal coaches. There's
there's technicians, there's guys that a resume speak for themselves.
He'd be like, oh dang, oh no, you like oh
he he comes to the room and like, oh he
knows he I'm gonna I'm gonna say this too, broch
(16:00):
is the most important thing in the NFL. I'm not
gonna hold you, bro. I feel like everyone has talent,
you know this to a certain extent, Like you might have, Yeah,
four teams that are like the outliers, like bottom of
the league, four teams top of the league, four teams
that you know are struggling, you know, got to develop
(16:20):
the roster or got a superior roster. But besides that, bro,
everyone's in the middle. Anyone could beat anyone on envy,
get any given Sunday and coaching. I feel like it's
the biggest denominator, bro, Like, how can you get a
group of men like us to rally around each other?
How can you build a culture and how can you
(16:40):
put this in position to be successful and how can
you adjust within the game to get a win? So
I feel like that I think that's the most important.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
Hell ya, So you feel like that's one of you
biggest turn arounds because I mean, last year, y'all was
like four and thirteen.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
You was it a struggle bus like I was.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
We were swinging up, swinging up and out, and then
this year y'all go thirteen to four.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
Do you think that?
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Do you think coaching staff in terms of game planning,
in terms of halftime adjustments?
Speaker 1 (17:09):
Bro, last year there was a couple of games we
didn't even we didn't even have a halftime adjustment. I
looked around. I said, Bro, it's gonna work. I mean,
you look at it. The roster was pretty similar. You know,
roster was pretty similar. It wasn't you know that we
added some new pieces, some great great additions. But I
mean the only thing that really changed was was that.
(17:30):
So yeah, you know, I wasn't. I wasn't there much
prior to that. You know, this is on my second
year in Jacksonville, so I don't know like how deep
it goes ins and outs. But you know, coach Cohen,
in the in the in the staff, we had first
timers everywhere. First time head coach, first time GM, first
time defense coordinator, first time offensive coordinator, first time this
(17:54):
first time that, and so in doing that, I knew
that they were gonna be hungry, that they that everyone
wants to leave a good first impression at least, and
so they were gonna leave no stone unturned. And I
think that that, uh, you know, end up being good
for us. Man. You know, we uh we had something
(18:17):
to prove as a team, and they had something to
prove as a staff. And it was a it was
a you know, a good first start, but you know
a lot more to do, you know, locking to get better.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
Hey, all I know is is your head coach got
that fired, he got he got some dog in them.
You do seem Jawn Jacket with with saloons after the game.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
What's going on? I like that. Them boys, Them boys
funny man. You know, I know Soli very well too,
So I couldn't do nothing but just chuckle when I've
seen that. But you know, they're gonna they're gonna they
gotta squash the beef because they're gonna be they're gonna
be at them NFL meetings together. They gotta squash it.
I don't I don't really think it. I don't really
think it's beef or smoke like that. But that was funny, bro,
(19:01):
I said, I want to know more. I said, oh,
we got so drama like that. And then you know,
Sala just got h he just got hired over the Titans,
so they gonna be at all the all the head
coach meetings, all the owners meetings in the division. Bro. So, hey, hey,
look at each other. We're good. It was just so
funny because I felt I knew it was brewing up
(19:24):
all week. I didn't know that's how it was gonna
go on game day, but it was brewing up all week.
And the funny thing was like that was my return
back to the Niners too, So I was like he
was just like everybody was a little I'm like, dang,
what's y'all? Everybody owned this week? Man, it was it
was a little different. Hey who's y'all? Just about who's
(19:47):
your rival? Like I just thought about it.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
We know New Orleans hates the Falcons, and then Tampa
Bay and Carolina rotated like, hey, we hate y'all too,
but I only hate the Falcons.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
Apparently our rival is the Titans. Oh oh, this is
gonna feel well then, apparently, I you know, yeah, up
in Saxonville, Duvaul out there like, what's up. Yeah, you know,
apparently that is the rival. You know, they've been every
time since I've been here. Whenever we played them, it's like,
you know how everyone start talking. They don't like they
(20:19):
don't like us, we don't like them and all that.
So oh day, for real, we got smoked with them. Okay,
let let's go. Yeah, no doubt, no doubt. Okay, So
that plays in quite well, you know, for week four
to the next couple of seasons. Yeah, twice a year. Yeah,
it's gonna be It's gonna be a lot of fun. Okay.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
I mean you know, that just brings believe me to
my next question, like, when is it that you were
able to buy into uh to go in as as
a head coach.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
I mean I bought it. I bought him from the
very dump. You know. When we hired him, he did
something that a head coach and I had never seen do.
Like the first couple of days with him getting hired,
me and Josh hens Allen went to dinner with him
to kick it with him and just meet him, and
I was like, oh man, this is this is really cool,
Like to have an opportunity to you know, get to
(21:13):
know your coach on more of a personal level and
that that was a point of the emphasis for him
and he wanted to do that too. So from the
you know, from the jump, it was like let's go,
you know what I'm saying, Like we got things to
get turned around, and there was a new new vibe
in the building and everyone was, you know, trying to
(21:35):
get it done together in facts. Yeah many you know
that that helps you build him the next year as well.
You go thirteen to four, confidence high for next year. Yeah,
with with with going with you know with that too,
you know, higher expectations as well too, so you know,
the work just getting started, higher expectations. You're not gonna
(21:55):
surprise people anymore, you know all that comes with it.
People are know you're a good team, but there's you know,
a lot more to do. We'll be right back. Let's
pivot to the main you know, main week coming up
after after this week, it'll be the super Bowl week,
you know, uh.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
Back in the back in the Bay, which isn't the
most well organized super Bowl to begin with. Yes, it's
Santa Clara, Santa Clara, so it's really not a part
of the Bay. But they're gonna say it's the baby
say in San Francisco, but it's gonna it's gonna be
some events in Oakland.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
There's gonna be some Vince in San Francisco.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
There's gonna be some events in like San Jose, and
they're gonna try and make some events in Santa Clair.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
Like it's too spread out, too spread out, and the
Pro Bowl is there too. I wanted to talk to
you about this, bro. I like that. Yeah, it's cool.
But do you know they they stopped doing alternates for
O line d Lin? Is that what happened? Yes?
Speaker 2 (22:50):
Bro?
Speaker 1 (22:50):
Who like who like falling? If nobody goes, they just don't.
They just don't, no one.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
Oh, so what happens if if two guys like you,
so like de Marcus Lawrence going to Super Bowl?
Speaker 1 (23:02):
Who feels no, they just play a seven or seven game?
I'm like, who decided that? Who decided the alternate? So quarterbacks?
Can you can have the fifty fifth? There's a there's
alternates for every position except old line d Lin. We
got we gotta just we gotta talk about that, Yeah,
we gotta. I did not know that.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
I was wondering who the alternates were going down?
Speaker 1 (23:27):
There isn't that's there is no bro. I was like,
who decided that? So we gotta have we gotta have
some discussions, man, no doubt. Cool, Bro, I'm looking at it.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
I'm like, bro, like, if we just look at stats alone,
I was like, bro Like, but okay, that's that's definitely something.
How do you not have alternates that at the most
important position not named quarterback?
Speaker 1 (23:51):
I don't know. I don't know, I don't know how. Well, yeah,
we gotta have some discussions with that, because that's not cool.
But you know you were talking about uh super a
week and all that. But I'm excited. I'm gonna be
out there. I know you're gonna be out there too.
We get to lead up. You still got you still
got the crib out in the bay or you sald
that thing. Nah. I had a house in Sack for
a couple of years, but since since sold that. You know,
(24:13):
you guys set up get you in Florida, taxis man,
I got I got a house here. I left here.
I lived here and least offices and this is me now,
okay this I will be here all right. So we
talked about let's talk about Seattle. We both played them.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
I played them and I looked up in the first
quarter it was they was twenty one up in all
the type of way.
Speaker 1 (24:35):
I said, Oh, I said twenty eight, I said. I
said wait, wait, wait, wait a minute. I said, wait.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
We didn't have a chance to fight back, fight back
in every game I've been I said, yo, like, there's
three plays that we needed back. We would have won
the game. See we played Seattle, I said, bro, we
have seventeen things go wrong.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
That was the that was the r for us.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
Oh that was he We was fighting from from second
quarter on like, oh, we made it look good at
the end, ish, but we were Finally, I said, bro,
that's not how it's.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
Supposed to go. Fight back. Put your hands up, do something,
do something. I'm looking at looking like this, could y'all
fight that? I want to pass out a good team.
Our game went a little differently. They beat this by eight,
but I will say like they controlled. They did control
the game. The defense played very well. You know, we
(25:22):
stopped their run game. They didn't run the ball on
us at all. But Sam Donald made some big plays.
They got in big people, you know, taking shots down
the field. JSN I think went crazy. I think he
had about one seventy versus US. So even though we
stopped the run, you know, they got the raid. Yeah,
it was a little bit of an air raid. So
they got a good team, man, very they don't have.
(25:45):
Looking at their team, it's like there's no holes really,
you know, there's no holes in the roster. They're all
you know, even some of the positions that may not
be as good, like, they're still solid and sound and
so good team. Uh. You know, they definitely play playoff
type football. They want to run the football, protect the football,
(26:10):
and play good defense. And when you can play good defense,
get after the quarterback and you can run the football
and the quarterback don't turn it over. That's a recipe
for success. And then also you add in Sam Donald
is talented, talented enough to take over games as well too,
and and and take shots down the field. So yeah,
(26:31):
they got a they got a very very good team.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
Man.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
Playing against them, it was I was like, Okay, I
see why, you know, this is one of the better
teams in the league. That was early in the season,
but I was like, man, it's a it's a very
good team. And that defense playing phenomenal, uh, playmakers at
all at every level, and The thing I think that
sticks out to me about their defense is their overall speed,
(26:56):
Like they play fast, they look fast, they play fast,
and that playing fast, as you know, on defense, covers
up a lot of mistakes, no doubt. I say that
that front seven is crazy, but the back is fire to.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
Your weakest position is linebacker, and Ernest Jones the fourth
is not weak.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
I think Ernest might have been All Pro this year.
He again, Yeah, hey, corners is going crazy. Safety's going crazy.
That's your only like linebackers. Just no, he's bulling.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
Then you got you got three dudes in the in
the back end. That's for three or lower. Yeah, for sure.
Wool Wooling. He ran with a spooning ran like four
to three. And then number three the rookie, he's he's
going I don't want to butcher his name. He's super
fast and.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
He popped up the screen. I see him cover two
thirds of the field. I said, I said, he's a rookie.
I said, wait, oh yeah, they got I played him.
I said, I had to think about this. I was
over were worried about the office. I started looking at
the said that defense is cold. Yeah, Nick, Nick, Sure
there we go.
Speaker 1 (28:06):
Yeah, nick nick nick out, they're going crazy, No, going crazy,
for sure. I think he might be up for a
defensive Rookie of the Year. That makes sense.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
Yeah, hey, that makes that makes sense. The boy's talented,
all right. So that's that's Seattle side.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
I got a good team. I'm not going to Seattle
got a great team.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
Look when I looked at it, I said, the only
team that might pose a problem to the Rams was Seattle.
They beat him a couple weeks before. I said, it's
hard to beat team two teams in a row. That
was my only rationale because on paper, I said, I say,
you say Pooka, you say I'd say, you know JS
and you can you say Davante, You said Cooper Cup
Like they had answers at every position.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
You know, Kyle Williams. Okay, you got Kenny Walker.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
You know, He's the only thing I said, Okay, And
I said, Matt Stafford is arguably going to be a
top five, top ten quarterback of all time soon enough,
if he's not already there.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
Yeah, and probably encroaching on top in top four area. Now, yeah, Matt,
Matt Stafford, He's he got out of it. He got
out of Detroit and done.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
Leveled up, level up, And I said, I said, you know,
I said, I don't know if Sam Donald could match
his play.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
I was dead wrong. Sam Donald was out there dicing
things up. Donald was cooking, bro. He said, you want
to throw for three hundred me two? Sam? One of
them like Baker Mayfield. Man, they got chip on their shoulder.
They changed the whole narrative. I was a teammate with Sam,
he was. He was on our team and the Niners
in twenty twenty three. Yeah, and I think Party maybe
(29:35):
got hurt one or two games that year. Sam came
in did his thing. It was like, you know, we
were all very comfortable having Sam, like if something happened
to Party. We were very comfortable winning football games with
Sam Donald. And he's done nothing but shown shown that
since since leaving the Niners. He went to the Vikings.
This is second two years in a row, fourteen and three. Yeah.
(29:57):
Not a lot of quarterbacks doing that for for different teams.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
Man, he saw I saw the Minnesota Vikings and they said, yeah,
but we got this JJ JJ McCarthy And.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
I said, Yo, treat him like, treat him like a brother.
Love Jordan Love. You know what I'm saying, like they
put him, put him in school for a couple of
years and then make him bomb.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
But they they dealed him out, and Seattle was like, yo,
we like winners. And Sam Donald has done his part too,
and now they're in the in the super Bowl, and
so now let's talk about Patriot because all we've done
is hyped up Seattle, which I know who I think
is gonna win.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
Here's a light.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
There's a lot to hype about the Patriots too. Day
is going crazy. But let's ten get real about this, right, Patriots.
Drake Drake May May, whatever the name is. Yeah, Drake
May is out there spinning right.
Speaker 1 (30:44):
Was all season? Yep, a little bit. I mean their
their offense hasn't been as prolific in the in the
playoffs quite honestly. But but that I mean, you're in
the super Bowl. Hey, the job done.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
He threw for what ninety yards last game and it
was a blizzard that came in, but the first half
wasn't a blizzard.
Speaker 1 (31:06):
Yeah, you uses his feet when when when he needs
to A surprisingly fast man. I played against him last year. Complete, well,
the whole organization is a complete three sixty They were
last year yeah, you talk about us going from four
and thirteen to thirteen and four Super Bowl. They went
(31:29):
to the Super Bowl with you know, with their turnaround.
So but I think the big thing that I see
with the Patriots is they had a lot of cap
space this all season, and they they they hit on
them free agencies, no doubt. And what I'm and I
you know, I hadn't really watched them all year, you know. No,
(31:51):
it was a little bit of crossover film with some
teams we played, but I haven't watched like a TV
game and stuff, so I really wasn't paying attention. But
then I'm watching the game, I'm like, man, they got
Carlton Davis, what sor Gonzales? What? Now? They got lockdown corners.
Then you go to the defensive line. They got they
got They got mil Williams from Christian Barmore, Chase On
(32:16):
trading for him real quick and come here crazy. I'm like,
Then they signed Harold Landry in free agency. You go
on the other side of the ball, they got Stefan Diggs,
Morgan Moses, you know, to help reassure that office of line.
Speaker 2 (32:30):
Steps Morgan Moses offensive tackle mm hmm, Office of Tackle.
You know, what I mean, I'll be trying to go
out my way and not to the office of lineman.
So you threw that one out there. That's what they drafted.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
Will Campbell, you do it, you yeah, but you do
anything you can and respect them to disrespect every time.
Every time.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
Bro, what if they got they're not looking and they
got their shoe.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
I do got an off script question for you because
I wanted to know it and I can't even I
don't know why I can't remember his name, his face,
But you know the uh trucking with the Boys that
y'all was on ESPN. What's the office line? And needs
to play for the tights Busting with the boys Taylor
lu Wan Okay, So in that when you know you
(33:17):
said what you said about the office line, and.
Speaker 2 (33:20):
Go ahead repeat it that there is athletic that's where
you end up athlete.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
When he pulled up them combine comparisons, what was going
through your head because you got to think, quick are
your toes? He was kind of on you. No, no, women,
you know what's the women line? Men line numbers, don't
I said, Oh, he picked out he picked out the
listick that's gonna make the pig look good, HU show
all the numbers. We were close in jumps.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
That's fine, brother, But guess what when it comes to fluidity,
when it comes to being on the field, there's no
comparison of what he was doing on the fielder versus
what I could do on the field.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
You can effect nine times out of ten. When you
get a new draft pick, right Eric, like you already know,
like they've drafted this freak from ut s A that
had you know, that jumps a forty five inch vert
and runs a four or five and it's six foot
seven and whatever looks looks better. His numbers always gonna
say they're gonna be better. But can he beat you out? No? No, yeah,
(34:16):
you know hey, but but so he threw those numbers out,
I'm like, what do you numbers? Tell me? That's like
you remember that office a lineman from like University of
Maryland that ran a four six or four seven and
went top ten and got his name was Campbell and
he got drafted the Raiders. I believe the guy guy
making like a four six, Yeah, yeah exactly. They were like, man,
(34:37):
he's gonna be the best, how because you're gonna high
be hindred numbers didn't make you an athlete.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
No, show me what he did. Can he put that together?
So that's why I'm unfazed by He's like, but our
numbers were similar. Brother, we can look we can look similar,
but does not make what doesn't mean that we're the same.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
Yeah, I mean that was a way that was. I'm here.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
I'm here for all smoke at all time from any
office of lineman. And and and they're coming out the woodworks.
I'd probably don't hurt feelings. And I don't mean to
like they're like, bro, we're done all fat?
Speaker 1 (35:09):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
I get that fat is a sensitive topic, and I
get it, and I that should not be a word
that I threw out there lightly. But when you took
the scale of three hundred fifty pounds, nobody ever called
you skinny.
Speaker 1 (35:21):
Yeah, no, I think. I mean there's there's oh no,
there's some out there. There's outliers, there's freak athletes out
there in all forms. Yeah, there's some out there like
the old lineman that I respect, that are like I
would consider, you know, more of like a true athlete.
They had to hoop. If you ain't hoop, does your
(35:43):
cut off? If you ain't go across sports if you didn't.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
No, Hey, I respect I respect the entire position for sure,
and I'm I'm gonna go out of my way to
disrespect them every time because you're my op. But I
respect the entire I respect the entire position because bro, Like,
at the end of the day, there's still the top
one percent of the top one percent, So I respect them,
like dang like you off the alignment, like, bro, because
(36:08):
you ain't grow up thinking like ooh, I can't wait
to do this past set.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
Man. You you dream of touchdowns for second quarterbacks, You
dreamed of hitting somebody, You dreamed of playing basketball. You
maybe even tennis golf. You ain't never woke up in
like at seven years old, was like, let me start
backpedaling really slow but effectively. No. Right, So you resiliency
(36:32):
because they gotta do something that they never dreamed of doing,
no doubt.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
Hey, you might have to think that. What Hey, I
respect you, bro for living a dream that I know
you never had. Yes, all right, who you got winning
the Super Bowl? We get you out of here.
Speaker 1 (36:48):
Oh man, welcome to the dark side. Uh, I'm gonna
go Seattle, Bro, Yeah, I'm gonna go Seattle. I think
it's gonna be a good game. Though I don't think uh,
Seattle's gonna blow them out by any means, but I think,
I think, I think it's gonna be decisive. I think
it's gonna be decisive win. Mm hmm. It's in. It's
(37:09):
in the Bay. Seattle's nor has played over up there
twice already, the third time playing in the Bay. They're
very familiar with the area, feel familiar on the operations.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
I think the I think Patriots. I think Vrabel's a
hell of a coach, so it's gonna get them ready.
But I think because of the last two or three
performances offensive side, you know again, Drake may through for
ninety yards last game being and change when he when
he meets a formidable defense. He hasn't really proven in
the playoffs that he could shine. Now they still got
(37:40):
the win, they're still in the super Bowl, and I
think they have potential. Especially I like the kid.
Speaker 1 (37:43):
Uh they're running back Henderson, Yes, yep, steven they got
one Henderson and Stevenson. I think, yeah. I like I
like their back, their backs, I like I like their
tight ends. I like the wide receiver.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
Then there's there's also Matt Collins, which is a completely
I said, he gets all the dirty work. He comes
in barefoot and he's willing to block anybody and do
all the dirty work.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
So I like that. Yeah, he putting he putting them
dirty hands and feet on people. Now, Max, Max, Matt
is that receiver that you need, Bro, Like that's what
you say.
Speaker 2 (38:20):
He's the edge, Like you know receivers are you know
these guys You're like, Bro, You're not You're not willing
to do this dirty work.
Speaker 1 (38:26):
He is down the field blocks though, whatever it takes,
he's willing to do.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
So. I mean, I think I think the Patriot will
make it a good game. I just don't think it's
gonna be close. I think it's gonna be like a
ten point swing in for sure Seattle's favor. And don't
let them, don't let him get rashid sha He going
on special teams early, they score, they scored one on
special teams.
Speaker 1 (38:46):
Big fella, it's gonna it's gonna get ugly. Yeah, I
don't know how. Y'all let him get up out of
shut up, shut up, don't do this to me right now.
What happened was he was headed towards free agency. I
don't know, how did that man handed him this Super Bowl?
Bro Chris Olive had his first all Pro season. You know,
So we had two of the same six foot speedster types,
(39:09):
and so I that's how I'm rationalizing it.
Speaker 2 (39:11):
We had two of the same type receivers, and honestly,
we were trying to force Shaheed to just be receiver.
When he's a receiver, he's he's he's he's a returner. Yeah,
he didn't return much this past year for us, and
then he went back to his natural position.
Speaker 1 (39:26):
And he's a Pro bowler. Yeah, he's also returner. Yeah,
the game going that way too, No doubt, there's a
lot of parallels in the roster. I don't think. I
think the talent is kind of equivalent on both sides.
But you know, just kind of from from what I seen.
You know, Drake may could have an.
Speaker 2 (39:47):
Explosion, and if he showed what he showed during regular season,
then then it's gonna be a tight game.
Speaker 1 (39:53):
Yeah, he could. He could have a he could have
an explosion. You never know, you know, like Super Bowl Sunday,
do something a little different to you. You know, you
could come out. I don't know that me tell me
because I want that. I don't want so bad, My bad,
my bad. I mean, I ain't one one, but I
know super Bowl Sunday, you know, do something a little
(40:16):
different to you. Man. You get a little magic. Some
people get a little magical powers. Absolutely right. We'll see
if the magic hits this weekend, yeah, for sure next weekend. Yeah.
But anyways, I appreciate you. Stop and body trap man.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
You know this is my pod bro off the edge
