Speaker 1 (00:07):
For the second straight day. The Jets have locked up
one of their young stars for the long haul. But
what does getting Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner's deals done
now say about a new era in New York. We
will tell you the details of sausage record setting extension
and how it all went down. The defending champs report
two training camp one week from today and is it

(00:30):
possible this Eagles team could be even better? Our Mark
Grosse will be here to talk about the latest editions
in Philly, as well as who else to watch Among
newcomers to the NFC East. Hooka Nakua has a new
running mate with the Rams, and you won't want to
miss what Pooka has to say about Devonte adams potential
impact in La Pooka Nakua joins the show tonight to

(00:53):
discuss his big plans for twenty twenty five. Our Plans
more Football Welcome inside with the Insiders alongside Ian rappaport
I am Tom Pelisero. Fifty one days now out from
the kickoff to the twenty twenty five season, all thirty
two teams will have reported the training camp by the
middle of next week, starting with the Chargers tomorrow. There's

(01:16):
still a lot of off field business to take care
of before then. Except for the Jets, they have officially
finished basically everything on the old to do list for
the second second of day, that is where we begin
in Flora Park, where a day after they got Garrett
Wilson's Monster Extension done, step right up Sauce Gardner. It
is a four year, one hundred and twenty point four

(01:37):
million dollar contact extension ian that ties Sauce to the
Jets through twenty thirty and locks up another one of
those core players and they hope leaders that's going to
take this new regime forward.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Yeah, no doubt. A huge, huge day, really huge week
for the New York Jets, and so much of what
we've done over the course of the last I would
say decade or so, over the Jets has been talk
about all their issues, right, I mean, it's whether it's
during training, camper, during the season, or leading up to training, camper,
holdouts of contracts, or things that can't get done. It's
really been about when are the Jets going to do

(02:11):
what they're supposed to do? Well, they did it. They
did everything they're supposed to do. Everything their fans would
want them to do everything that's prudent for a really
good organization. They took care of their really good homegrown players.
You mentioned Garrett Wilson yesterday. Today it was Sauce Gardener
with a four year, one hundred and twenty point four
million dollars deal, eighty five million dollars plus in guarantees,

(02:34):
thirteen point seventy five million dollars signing Monus. There was
no doubt that he was going to come in, just
over Derek Stingley. Of course, the Texans star corner. He
does so differently structured contract, but either way, Sauce Garterer
now the highest paid corner in the NFL an excellent
day to be him.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
Four year extensions for both those players, they had two
years left remaining on their original rookie contracts. So sometimes
in those situations, teams are going to play it out,
say hey, we got you for two more years, plus
we've got franchise tags and all that. But if you
get in early and if you hit on those deals,
potentially you actually save your self money by investing, especially
in the market like cornerback that continues to explode. Speaking

(03:18):
of franchise tags, Tray Smith got one he had already signed.
It would have been worth around twenty three million dollars,
but he in just hours before the deadline for Tray Smith,
and only Tray Smith because he was the only franchise
tag player left to sign a multi year deal, the
Chiefs got the deal done.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Yeah, Tray Smith is going to be the highest paid
guard in the NFL, no matter what, whether on the
twenty three plus million dollar franchise Tag or whether on
a new contract extension. But what everyone wanted was the
contract extension from Tray Smith, who wanted to be locked
up long term. And in fact, that is exactly what happened.
Four years ninety four million dollar deal that has now

(03:56):
been agreed to seventy million dollars in guarantees and ill
done by Tory Dandy and Jimmy Sexitt of CIA. It
is something that for Tray Smith he has been working toward.
In no doubt, when there were all these discussions about
blood Cutts and how many teams were not passing him
in the draft and him going in the sixth round
intead of the first round was probably a day that
Tray Smith never thought was coming. It came today a great, huge,

(04:19):
deal for him in a great, huge deal for the
guard market and for the Chiefs. What they have done
is lock up all their really good offensive lineman. Obviously
traded Joe Toon in the offseason in part to be
able to do this deal. Creed Humphrey now highest paid center,
Trey Smith highest paid guard by a lot, No wonder.
Patrick Mahomes was tweeting the smiley face emojis. It's a
great debut to be Mahomes. And then for the Chiefs

(04:42):
they get a little salary cap space just for the
just for locking up their guy.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
A lot of millions of dollars flying around in the
days leading up to training camp. None of those yet
have fallen into the bank account of one Terry mcclaurin,
the Pro Bowl wide receiver for the Commanders. We spoke
to reporters today after shooting a commercial for Valley Forge
Auto excuse me, Eastern Automotive. Talked about his contract situation
and sure does not sound happy with the progress. I've

(05:11):
been pretty frustrated.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
I'm not gonna lie, you know, everything that has transpirted
up to this point is just been disappointing and frustrating.
You know, I've wanted to continue my career here. I've
created my life here. You know, my wife and I
have bought our first home here. So this has been
somewhere where I've always wanted to be. I haven't decided

(05:33):
that yet. I'm trying to take things day by day,
and you know, I think that's the the disappointing part
where I was hoping up until this point things would
clear up a lot more than they have. And so
I haven't made that decision yet, and I'm just want
to see how the rest of this week goes and
take it day by day.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Terry McLaurin turns thirty in September Ian But if you
just put side by side blind taste test style, his
numbers versus Garrett Wilson's numbers very similar stats with fewer targets.
For Terry McLaurin. We now live in an age where
the receivers who are getting twenty million dollars a year
just a few years ago, all of a sudden, those
twenty million dollar players are thirty million dollar players. There

(06:15):
in lies the issue. He's do about twenty million dollar
dollars on his contract this season, probably the last big
contract he can get, and to this point, Ian, it's
subundantly clear the sides. You're not seeing eye.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
To eye, not seeing out of eye yet. And you know,
rarely do we see deals done on July fifteenth or
July fourteenth. We saw three huge deals done over the
past two days. Usually right up against the start of
training camp is when these things really kick in the
gear and when the deadlines end up creating deals. The
commanders are not there. So just because Terry McCain is

(06:47):
not of a new contract yet doesn't mean he is
not going to get a new contract. You mentioned some
of the numbers, minuderstand he wants to be in the thirties,
and judging by his stats, thirties makes sense. And the
fact that Garrett Wilson on his first big deal obviously
much younger than Terry McLaurin, but on his first big
deal got more than thirty two million dollars per year
based on new money, you think that would be good

(07:08):
news for McLaurin. We also know that he is pretty serious, right,
I mean, he was not there at a mandatory mini camp.
He spoke today to reporters, many many local reporters and
some other people who are there to listen to his words,
he sounds serious. He is obviously not happy. Commanders want
to get this done. You really do have to think, Tom,

(07:29):
this will get done in time. But these receiver deals
are getting to a point where they.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
Are so massive.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Teams have to make absolutely sure you want to lock
a guy up before you do so.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Commanders veterans, like most teams, veteran players set to report
to training camp one week from today. As McLaurin put it,
it is crunch time and the sides have not talked
in more than a month. We got more rookies reporting
to training camp this week, six more teams in the
building earlier today. There are some some players that are

(08:00):
not there yet, mostly second round draft picks. More on
that a little bit later on, but right now, let's
dive into some of the guys that we do expect
to see on the field in training camp. As our
guy Cameron Wolf joins the show, let's start right down
there where you are camp in Miami. Give me a
name that you're excited to watch when we get to
training camp, and if this is who I think it is,
I'm going to let you pronounce his last name.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing Jonah Savi and Naya
their guard they drafted in the second round coming in
for Miami. Look, this is a Dolphins team that we
know the issues can they have the physicality and toughness.

Speaker 5 (08:34):
In December and January, they.

Speaker 4 (08:36):
Spent their first two picks on offense and defensive linemans.
And I want to focus on Jonah because this is
a team that was six in the NFL and rushing
first and yards per carry in twenty twenty three fell
to the bottom twelve in each category, mostly because of
guard play. They expect Jonah to be a plug in
day one starter, so he's got to come out in.

Speaker 5 (08:56):
Training camp and contribute.

Speaker 4 (08:57):
You don't learn a lot about offensive lineman and ota
as you do in training camp.

Speaker 5 (09:01):
And Tom, you just mentioned it earlier.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
He's one of those second round picks that is still unsigned,
thirty of thirty two one signed. I know you'll talk
about it later, but he's got to be out there
on the field for him to get that chemistry. The
Dolphins need to run the ball and protect Tua and
hopefully perform better in the winter months.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
He's the thirty seventh overall picked picks thirty three and
thirty four got fully guaranteed contracts. One of many things
to watch. We still have time to go until the
veterans report. For a lot of these teams, let's stay
there in the AFC East. We know what Buffalo did.
It was defense, defense, defense, But which defender, Cameron, are
you most excited to see?

Speaker 4 (09:38):
Yeah, I'm going to switch it up a little bit
and focus on their third round pick, Landon Jackson, the
edge rusher out of Arkansas. I'll talk with their general manager,
Brandon Bean after the draft, and he said, look, we
think we got three impact players in our first three to.

Speaker 5 (09:52):
Four picks that can contribute right now.

Speaker 4 (09:54):
He thinks they have enough on the edge, and Landon
Jackson was a very productive rusher in college. I was
there at that AFC championship game the Bills lost to
the Chiefs, and the one thing they had missed and
they continue have missed year after year, is that guy
who can sack Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson late in
games to finally get a stop. They hope land and
Jackson can develop into that. Of course, we know they

(10:16):
signed Joey Bosa. He's already dealing with a soft tissue
injury and so a guy like Landon Jackson could be
asked to contribute a lot early.

Speaker 5 (10:24):
I know they like him a lot. He had a
really good spring.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
And now I'm eager to watch him and how he
goes against Dion Dawkins and that elite offensive line in
training camp with the Pads.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
On land and Jackson also a standout at Senior Bowl practices.
Did deal with some injuries in college. He's actually starting
out on the physically able to perform list. Never fair
in training camp, the active pup list. You can come
off that at any time. How about Baltimore CAM They've
been one of the best drafting teams for a long
long time. What do you get your eye on?

Speaker 4 (10:53):
Yeah, I can't wait to see Malachi Starks out there
in Baltimore, their first round pick. He's a guy who
was an elite playmaker college, a guy who can play everywhere.
He played fifteen hundred snaps at safety, another five hundred
snaps at slot cornerback, and I love what he can
do for defensive coordinator Zach Orr in this defense, they
were the best defense in the NFL in the second
half of the year. When they move Kyle Hamilton to

(11:15):
deep safety, now you've got Malachai Starks, who can play deep,
who can place a slot, and so he allows.

Speaker 5 (11:20):
You to do a lot of different things.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
For Kyle Hamilton, this Ravens defense is ready to get
back to that nastiness that we know them for.

Speaker 5 (11:28):
And I can't wait to see the elusiveness.

Speaker 4 (11:30):
Or can use using Hamilton and Starks in different ways
for this defense. They are also got JII Alexander to
add with Marlon Humphrey, this Ravens defense could be really
special in twenty twenty five and we're going to see
him early in camp.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
Melock Hi. Stark's also one of those guys who can
light up a room. A met him at Draft week
in Green Bay. He is one of those guys from
a culture perspective, knowing how Baltimore wants to build. Was
a natural fit. Cam. Thank you very much. We will
talk to you again soon. Week from today, the Rams
will be reporting to Maui. No just kidding, that was

(12:04):
for mini camp. They will be back in California as
training camp launches one week from today. A lot of
new look parts on that offense, including DeVante Adams. For
one guy that you know is Nol. Main stay with
the Rams is our next guess it is poka nakula poka.
Seven more days. Man, this is it for you for vacation.

(12:24):
Tell me where your mind, your brain, your body is at.

Speaker 6 (12:28):
At this point, my body feels fantastic. I can't wait
to see the guys. I'm like, I just want to
see Matthew Stafford spin it. I'm like, that's my favorite
part of the day. As soon as their first practice
comes out and you see that boss spinning right, and
I'm like, all things.

Speaker 7 (12:39):
Will be well in the world.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
You know, obviously for some of the offseason there was
some uncertainty surrounding Stafford, probably more so this year than
ever before. You probably know as well as anyone why
he is so good. You talked about the way he
spends it. When you get the news that Stafford's definitely
coming back, I when you kind of get into get

(13:03):
into the offseason, do you get reminded of just how
good of a football he throws?

Speaker 7 (13:11):
One hundred percent. We were just throwing routes.

Speaker 6 (13:12):
And he has his quarterback coach that comes out to
our facility and we're out there running routes and he's like,
oh my gosh, Like I was just training this other guy,
and he just wouldn't believe how different the ball looks
come out of Matthew Stafford's hand.

Speaker 7 (13:25):
I'm like, he wears that armsleeve.

Speaker 6 (13:26):
Because he's protecting that can and he's gone on that
right arm anywhere on the football field he can put
the ball. I'm like with the coach mcvaiy, he calls
him long handoffs. We have forty five yard handoffs coming
from Matthew Stafford, So that's pretty cool.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
I love that we have the Matthew Stafford SlowMo video too.
Right there on que hitting you on a deep ball.
That wide receiver room is going to look different, right,
DeVante Adams in Cooper Cupp who you had a close
relationship with over the past couple of years. Moving on
now to Seattle, how of it all do you envision
that group and your passing offense in general being different
in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 7 (14:01):
It's definitely gonna be different.

Speaker 6 (14:03):
DeVante, as soon as he's stepped into the facility has
been fantastic. The ability to learn the game from another
all time great has been I feel like I'm stealing out.
I'm like a kid in the candy store. I'm like
I've had Matthew Stafford, Sean McVay, Cooper Cup and now
DeVante Adams. I'm like, my life is pretty good. I
can't complain too much and it's gonna be fun. We
signed two two back, we got some speed, we got

(14:24):
a bunch of young guys who are excited to play,
and seventeen is going to lead.

Speaker 7 (14:29):
The way for us and it's.

Speaker 6 (14:29):
Going to be fantastic to be out there on the
football field with him.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
So you talk about learning from Devonte, I mean you
are obviously a veteran. You have done it at the
highest level for several years already. What specifically can you
learn from him? Is it route running? Is it how
to read a defender, Like what kind of goes on
when when he's saying like, all right, take a look
at this or take a look at that.

Speaker 7 (14:53):
I'd say it's definitely route running.

Speaker 6 (14:55):
His ability to change to change pace while he's moving
on the football field, the ability to win against negative leverage,
his suddenness at the line of scrimmage. It's fantastic to
see and be able to see it in person and
be lining up right next to him.

Speaker 7 (15:09):
It.

Speaker 6 (15:09):
Make sure you have all the gas turned on when
you're going out there with number seventeen, so.

Speaker 7 (15:14):
It's super fun.

Speaker 6 (15:15):
And yeah, I think when you watch him win against
negative leverage, it gives you confidence. You start trying new things,
you start working different techniques. His ability to move defenders
at all over the football field is very awesome to
see and I can't wait to see you live at action.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Hoogi started off by saying that your body feels great
right now. I would imagine that was not the case
for a big chunk of last season. Me and Ian
are the insiders. There are multiple times where we're sitting
there watching games, going, oh no, this looks really bad
for broken to cool. You continue to push through through
the course of last season, but how hampered were you?
How hard is it to get on the field, and
how much better do you feel? Right now?

Speaker 6 (15:56):
I feel fantastic. We're in July. Right now, this is
probably then be the best I feel for the rest
of the year. So I take advantage of these moments
because they don't last too long. You started getting in
the training camp and you started hitting all these big guys,
and like Joe, I'm gonna see Nick Bosa twice a
year and I'm gonna so I got to make sure
I feel good from now all the way to February.

Speaker 7 (16:15):
So but it was it was about last year. Every
every season is a grind.

Speaker 6 (16:20):
There are so many different bumps and bruises you go
out throughout the season. But I think the Rams training
staff are keeping me safe because I just want to
be out there and play football on Sundays.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
You know, we talked about the different way that you know,
how different your receiver room will look, and you know,
the whole team seems to take on a little bit
of a different vibe. I mean, last year it felt,
especially at the beginning of the year, like a little
bit of a transition year. Does not feel like that.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
Now.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
You guys are kind of kind of locked and loaded
and seem to be really really talented. What's the optimism
level for you going into training camp in the season.

Speaker 6 (16:57):
I think it's super exciting. We got a bunch of
younger on the defensive side of the ball who keep
practice interesting for sure, and it's so exciting to go
against them and to find the nuance of moving back
out on the football field and seeing everybody communicate and
try to be on the same page and push our
defense to the limits. So it's fun to be able
to watch them combine all of their skills together and

(17:19):
communicate so everybody's on the same page.

Speaker 7 (17:21):
And then it's.

Speaker 6 (17:22):
Also even more fun to be in the offensive meetings
with coach McVay and coach the floor because they're cooking
up the best plays possible. So we're making our defense
sweat for sure. The motions, the routes. Davante's coming in
with new things that we're thinking about. Matthew wants to say,
I want to put the ball on this part of
the field. So the trifecta that we have of great

(17:43):
football minds is keeping everything super interesting.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
So Puka, we know from the backdrop and the towel
on your head here you're working with Gatorade right now.
You are the Gatorade player of the Year back in
high school in twenty eighteen. I had to go and
find your stats. Okay, this is with the Orum Tigers
in Utah. One hundred and three catches for two three
and thirty six yards and twenty six touchdowns.

Speaker 7 (18:08):
In that season.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
How did you put up numbers like that at a
fourteen game high school schedule? And what does it mean
to be on this unique list of people who have
won that award.

Speaker 6 (18:19):
I think it's one of the greatest feelings when I
go back to my high school and you see the
banner and it says my name. I had a teammate,
noahsu who plays for the Bears, who ended up winning
it the year after me as well.

Speaker 7 (18:28):
So to have that listen.

Speaker 6 (18:30):
To represent my football career is such a blessing. And
it's funny because now I get to represent Gatoray. This
is me on the sideline. You can check all eighteen
games from last season. As soon as after any touchdown,
after any play, I got.

Speaker 7 (18:45):
My towel on.

Speaker 6 (18:46):
I got my Gatoray towel after like hoody mellow. So
I'm like, I'm getting into my demon time and I'm
rocking and I'm playing. So it is a blessing to
be that and I when I go back to my
high school and I get to see that banner, it
takes me back to good times.

Speaker 2 (19:01):
So you are obviously a Gatorade guy through and through.
As you just discussed, how important is it for a
young athlete, maybe like you were back in the day,
to understand the science between hydration and why.

Speaker 5 (19:14):
Gay raid works.

Speaker 6 (19:16):
I think it took me definitely a couple of years
to figure it out. But just recently we had the
Gatoray testers come and they do the sweat test for us,
and they give you the information that allows you to
have success at practice because everything starts at practice. Everybody
they have the cameras, the TVs are on on Sundays,
but Tuesday or Wednesday through Saturday, those are the days

(19:38):
that you need to have everything on the schedule and
you have a prepared when you're out there running routes.
They have the amount of Gatoray that you need to
be having. They're giving you the water and it allows
you to have success. So when Sunday comes around, you're
ready to roll and you feel fresh, hydrated and recovered
so you can.

Speaker 7 (19:53):
Go out there and have the best performance.

Speaker 6 (19:55):
So I'm blessed because I think Glacier free only on
game Like my game day.

Speaker 7 (20:02):
Gatorade bottle has nothing but Glacier freezing it. They don't
even give me any water, it's just streak either eight.

Speaker 1 (20:08):
To wait to say hold on. If they hand you
the bottle and it's got like the the berry, the
red one, you just go like, I can't do this.
You need to get me glacier freeze done.

Speaker 7 (20:18):
No chance they would bring me a red one. They
wouldn't do that to me on game day. I would
mess up the energy wed with me all that.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
I'm a blue guy myself. Pooka, thanks a time for
being your man. We really appreciate best luck. Stay healthy
out there. We'll talk to you again soon.

Speaker 7 (20:32):
Thank you so much. We'll see you guys on Sunday.

Speaker 8 (20:34):
I see you.

Speaker 1 (20:35):
Thanks, Thank you, Rams and Texans. That's the Week one kickoff.
The Cowboys have a pretty interesting couple of months ahead
of them as well. We forged Ceedee Lamb in the
building for training camp this time around. Nargae and Slater
will join us next to talk about that new look
receiver room, new coaching staff, all things new with the Cowboys, Giants,

(21:04):
rookies among six teams that reported today, which means that
Jackson Dart will no longer be throwing passes to somebody
who it appears either falls or dives off the back
of that jet ski. That would probably be ruled an
incomplete pass. You need two feet on the jet ski,
not one. This is the pros, young man. Take a
look at the rest of the reporting dates for the

(21:25):
NFC East Like most teams, everybody coming in next week.
Cowboys getting a one day advance on that with the
full team reporting now talks in our California on July twenty.
First are Jane Slater. Surely we'll be joining them sometime
shortly thereafter, but first she joins us right here on
the Insiders, Jane, I think every segment you were on

(21:48):
last year at this time it was Ceedee Lamb, Where
is he, what's he doing? What kind of shape is he?
And what are we going to get the contract? We
don't have CD drama this time around. We do have
CD and George Pickens and what that want wide receiver
room is going to look like? What do you expect?

Speaker 9 (22:04):
Oh, don't worry. We'll be talking about Mica Parsons and
where that contract is soon enough. But you know, it's interesting, Tom.
Last year there was a lot of talk about the crowds.
The crowds seemed off. I tend to think somebody that
had to do with just when they were out there
when school starts in Texas and economics, But you honestly
can't ignore the fact that Cedee Lamb wasn't out there.

(22:27):
You also had questions about your run game. So let's
say what have the Cowboys done to address both these areas.
I'll start with the wide receivers. You've got Ceedee Lamb back,
and after he got that extension last year, he had
a big, big season. I mean we're talking about I believe.
Let's see, he led the league interceptions, he set a
franchise wrecker with over seventeen hundred receiving yards, and then

(22:51):
they went out and got him some help.

Speaker 1 (22:53):
You know, we had heard that they were going.

Speaker 9 (22:54):
To either get a wide receiver either through the draft
or through free agency, George Pickens.

Speaker 1 (22:59):
That shocked a lot of us.

Speaker 9 (23:01):
I don't think a lot of us really realize that
that was going to happen. It did, and then there's
been all these questions, is he going to be.

Speaker 5 (23:09):
A problem, is he a diva?

Speaker 9 (23:11):
And my interactions with George Pickens, he has essentially summed
it up, is a little bit misunderstood. He's passionate, he
wants to play the game, and just seeing the way
that he and Ceedee Lamb are already gelling together. You're
adding Ceedee Lamb is coming off a huge year. Phil's fresh,
he has got a healthy Dak Prescott that's coming back
something that he didn't have last year, and now you're

(23:32):
adding a true vertical threat in there with a George
Pickens who is averaging eighteen yards and catch. I think
this is what's going to attract fans out to training
camp this year, So something I'm sure we're going to
be talking a lot of. But also what is Brian
Schottenheimer going to bring to this offense, particularly with those
two type of vertical threats.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
And that type of a vertical threat also could open
some things up in terms of the running game, which
I would fairly say has been a point of consternation
from Cowboys fans over the past several years of what
is the plan? Zeke leaves Pollard leaves, Zeke comes back.
Nothing worked? Last year they overhauled the room once again.
How does this shake out now with a couple of
veterans and some young guys in the room as well.

Speaker 9 (24:15):
It was one of the first questions I asked of
coach Schottenheimer. Are we going to try that running back
by committee thing again? It didn't seem like it worked,
But I don't know if you've got a head and
shoulders above the other guy's running back, right Now that's
what I think this is going to be one of
those true competitions out there. Remember they did go out
and acquire Javonte Williams this offseason from the Broncos. Now,

(24:36):
when healthy, Javonte Williams is a deadly guy on his
feet when it talks to what you can expect from him.
And then you went out and you got a guy
like Jaden Blue. This is the rookie out of Texas.
So here are two potential threats from.

Speaker 1 (24:53):
You, but a little bit of an unknown.

Speaker 9 (24:54):
You know, you've got Javonte Williams again when he was
at his best, when he was healthy.

Speaker 1 (24:59):
Typically at takes a little.

Speaker 9 (25:00):
Bit of time to come back from the injury that
he had. That's sort of the feedback that I've gotten
from a lot of people. And with Blue, there's a
lot of potential there. But this is a team that
was I think seventeenth in rushing last year. It was
always an issue for them, and then it didn't help
when really it felt like your only real threat on
offense was Ceedee Lamb. I think they did a really

(25:20):
good job this offseason of addressing some of the areas
that needed to happen, and I have to laugh. One
of our producers asked us before the segment, well, how
good do you think the running game is really going
to be? And I said, I don't know, because it
depends on that offensive line. Remember, Zach Martin did retire
this offseason. They did go and acquire an offensive lineman
during the draft. But my producers aren't the only ones

(25:43):
asking these questions. I've got family and friends asking it.
But for whatever reason, just the vibes and the energy,
and I know a lot of people don't want to
set their fantasy leagues around vibes. It feels different now
pull off the tape of what I've said that in
years past. I just truly believe there's something to be
a little excited about when it comes to this ross
this year.

Speaker 1 (26:01):
That's going to be my fantasy team name now, Jane
Johnny twenty five All vibes. Thank you very much. We'll
talk to you again soon.

Speaker 2 (26:09):
Ian, I said, my fantasy team on vibes. Do people
want to do that? AKA guessing? Whatever? Anyway, my fantasy
team is gonna kill it as per usual. Are any
of those guys going to be on I am in
a IDP league, so maybe Abdul Cardiker be on it
Cam Skattaboo, Jackson Dart, a lot of like of some giants,

(26:30):
big name rookies. I have a feeling we're going to
be talking about these guys a lot, especially with this guy,
Mark Ross. Thank you for hanging out with us. So
let's start right there, right Mark, can you go into
some of these rookies, and of course giants rookies reported
today as did I believe it was five rookies of
five other teams. What rookie are you looking forward to

(26:52):
learning about from the Giants.

Speaker 10 (26:54):
Well, it definitely has to be Jackson Darts, and not
just because he's throwing the guys on jet ski and
Tom he dropped that. Let Tom though he dropped the ball,
the kid on the jet ski, he didn't just fall off.
But Jackson Dart. Look, the Giants, Abdul Carter is going
to be a star, but Jackson Dart. The Giants traded
up to get this young man. They've been starving for
a quarterback after the waning years of Eli Manning. Of

(27:15):
course the Daniel Jones experiment, and of course they've openly
said that this is a red shirt year.

Speaker 8 (27:21):
But I don't think there's any way.

Speaker 10 (27:22):
With the combination of Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in
front that Giants fans, Giants staff, Giants coaches are going
to want this guy to show flashes of why they
traded up to get him and say, look, we've got
to get this guy on the field sooner rather than later.
So I think the hope is, hey, this will be
the red shirt year. We may have a tough go

(27:43):
of it, as do we have, but we've got to
get Jackson Dart on the field. And just moving down
ninety five to other teams in the NFC East, We'll
go down to Philly there, and who I am I
on there is Jehad Campbell right there, who was my
absolute favorite player to watch to scout in the draft.
I had him as a top ten talent. Fell down
there because of the shoulder injury questions. But the big

(28:05):
questions will be is he healthy at number two? Where
will he play in that Eagles defense? Because at Alabama
he was all over the place, rushing the past, dropping
man to man coverage, So where will he play and
will he be healthy?

Speaker 7 (28:17):
And then moving further.

Speaker 10 (28:18):
Down ninety five down to Washington there and it's a veteran.
We got talked about two rookies and it's Deebo Samuel
And what does Deebo have left? No, hey had the
injuries last year, some questions if he got a little
bit bigger than what he usually looks always a stocky build.
But and then also with the Terry McLaurin contract situation,
even more pressure on Deebo to perform if Terry's not there.

(28:39):
So that'll be super intriguing with Jayden Daniels as an
MVP type candidate, if Deebo can raise that offense to
another level, and if he's the same old d bowl
there ian.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
Yeah, and no doubt the situation to watch for the
Washington Commanders. You're right, if Terry mcclaurran not on the field,
how does that receiving core develop?

Speaker 8 (29:03):
Mark?

Speaker 2 (29:03):
Thank you very much, great stuff as always, but don't
go anywhere. We're gonna have just a little bit more
from you before we wrap this thing up. Are the
Bengals gonna wrap it up with that guy? Trey Hendrickson,
one of the best edges in the NFL. Does he
get paid? Micah Parsons, does he get paid? He give
him all of the money. All right, Well, anyway, let's

(29:24):
figure out. Let me come back on the Insiders. Who's
getting the bag and who is it?

Speaker 1 (29:37):
Ravens rookies in the house today, including their first round
draft pick Malachi Starks, veterans for Baltimore, and most of
the other teams set to report training camp one week
from today. That includes Lamar Jackson, the multiple time MVP,
who now according to the team and Lamar sort of himself,

(29:58):
has been the subjective talk Sonny potential contract extension welcome
back to the Insiders, Tom Pellicero and Ian rapaport Ian
a unique situation, but everything else about Lamar, including the
way his negotiations work, have been different. Eric the Costa
has said, we want to get an extension done proactively.
Here where do we stand.

Speaker 2 (30:17):
They do want to get an extension done proactively. Lamar
Jackson wants to get an extension done regularly. And there
is a reason why his cab number is a big
one this year balloons up. That's basically the way his
deal was constructed. To get to the point where they're
at right now and say, all right, it makes sense
for both sides to take another look at this. Really,
the question is Where does it land for Lamar Jackson.

(30:40):
Does he eclip eclipse these sixty million dollars of Dak
Prescott or does he get just a little bit lower,
maybe in the fifty five range like Josh Allen got
when he got a new deal, though Josh Allen's deal
was more of a ripped up deal, a brand new
one rather than an extension. Couple different ways to do this,
but you're right, they got about a week to go.
It is very clear this is a top priority for

(31:01):
Lamar and for the Ravens. But just because they don't
get it done before the camp doesn't mean it. The
Ravens keep working on deals throughout the season, so if
it doesn't get done, there's so chance that it eventually
ends up getting done.

Speaker 1 (31:14):
One of the handful of big contract situations we will
be monitoring around the league. Another one in Buffalo where
running back James Cook did show up for mini camp
and participated last month. We'll see if that holds and
it potentially he could get that new deal prior to
the start of training camp. He has said himself on
social media that he's looking for fifteen million dollars per season.

(31:36):
That would be right at the top type of an end.
Beyd only likes the Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffrey in
terms of average per year. We all know the impact
that James Cook makes for that team. The Bill's also
spent a lot of money in this offseason. I would
imagine Ian, this is one that we're going to be
talking about right up until the start of training camp here,
kind of like the one with the Dallas Cowboys. That

(31:57):
could end up going on significantly longer than that.

Speaker 2 (32:01):
Yeah, if history tells us anything is that we're probably
going to talk about Michael Parsons right before they started
training camp. Then we're going to talk about Michael Parsons
all throughout training camp and maybe even right up until kickoff.
If it's anything like the Dak Prescott negotiations last year,
which were literally literally right up until kickoff. Of course,
for Dak Prescott it was worth it begat the highest

(32:22):
paid quarterback in the NFL. When MICHAEH. Parsons gets his
new deal, there is no doubt he is going to
be the highest paid defensive player, likely the highest paid
non quarterback in the NFL. Makes sense given his talent.
It's also why Michael Parsons knows he's going to get it,
is content to wait, wants the right deal, not the
fastest deal. But yes, we are going to be talking

(32:43):
about Michael Parson's plenty moving forward for the Dallas Cowboys,
and considering how much we're on air for the next
month or so, it makes.

Speaker 5 (32:50):
Sense as well.

Speaker 1 (32:52):
I would anticipate Michael Parsons shows up on time to
training camp. Doesn't necessarily mean, though, that he's doing much
of anything in terms of on the field work. As
for Trey Hendrickson, his status remains very much up in
the air. We've been talking about this one now for
a couple of years, most recently Trey Henderson himself holding
an impromptu press conference back in late May while his
teams are practicing. His team was practicing on the field

(33:14):
and saying he's not going to play for the sixteen
point five million that he is due this year. It
doesn't sound like anything is imminent on this front. Still,
we know that the Bengals have specific things that they
like to do in terms of contracts. Trey Hendrickson has
been unbelievably durable. He's been one of the most productive
pass rushers over the past couple of years led the
league in sacks in twenty twenty five. There were trade

(33:36):
talks back before the draft. Nobody's really not for a
first drund picket that time, So it's hard to imagine
this doesn't end with Trey Hendrickson back in Cincinnati. We'll
see the when and with what type of contractional adjustment
that ends up taking place. As for their other pass rusher,
Shamar Stewart, he remains unsigned at the stage. There was
a dispute in the spring over language in the participation

(33:58):
agreement that most rookies signed up anticipate in voluntary practices.
Then he was also in the midst of a dispute
over the actual contract language for his fully slotted deal.
His representatives and Samar himself as said, they just want
the same language that other Bengals draft picks in years past.
Half gotten. It's a standoff again.

Speaker 10 (34:17):
Ian.

Speaker 1 (34:18):
You would think all logic would tell you Shamar Stewart
ends up getting me in if not before the start
of training camp, in the early stages of training camp,
but he's under contract. They can't find him. Keep an
eye on this one as we move forward as well.

Speaker 2 (34:33):
Yeah, it it makes sense.

Speaker 1 (34:34):
To get it, Dee.

Speaker 2 (34:35):
We'll see if they're able to do it. There's so
little to negotiating these rookie heals. Just do the anyway.
That's my soapbox. We'll see where these Steelers on TJ.
Watt end up. I TG want very serious about wanting
a new deal, wanting to be among the highest paid
off not the highest paid defenders in the NFL. Has
put his foot down, essentially been clear about how much

(34:56):
he wants this where he believes it should be. This
is the ollociation actually pretty quiet, but no doubt they
are ongoing. It does not for me feel particularly close.
These Steelers have done a lot of things, a lot
of things this offseason. This is one thing they have
not done, but I would expect it to ramp up
either started training camp or right up against the start

(35:18):
of the season, where the Steelers often end up doing
their deals.

Speaker 1 (35:22):
If you're TJ. Watt, you're saying, why would I take
less than Miles Garrett. I'm also a former defensive Player
of the Year. I'm your best defensive player on a
team that's gone all in with all these moves in
the offseason. If you're the Steelers, you're saying You're on
the wrong side of age thirty at this point and
didn't really produce the second half of last season. It's
a really unique situation. You would think again, logic would

(35:43):
tell you they find a way here. TJ. Watt also
doesn't do a ton in training camp. This one might
take just a little bit. There are a lot of
other things you're able to watch for the Steelers if you.

Speaker 2 (35:53):
Get tickets to the games.

Speaker 1 (35:55):
That's right, the weight is over in the countdown to
kickoff has begun. Single game tickets for the two only
twenty five NFL season are on sale now. Visit NFL
dot com slash tickets to purchase tickets today.

Speaker 2 (36:06):
Tickets are available through the NFL.

Speaker 1 (36:08):
Ticket network, including Ticketmasters, Seek and Sports Illustrated Tickets. Did
I mention there's tickets? Tickets tickets.

Speaker 2 (36:18):
They're the top five defenses of twenty to twenty five,
according ten Above dot COM's Gennaro Police, so that you
don't have to play why bother playing the season? He
has named him right there with the Broncos being number one.
To be totally honest, that's actually a pretty good list,
and I do think the Broncos are going to be
really good how good who agrees with this? Is anyone
going to step up and say Genera Police is dead?

(36:40):
Rock Mark Ross, I am waiting for you. So you
saw that list, right, Why don't you instead of Genera Police,
why don't you project the top five defenses in the
NFL starting with number five?

Speaker 8 (36:53):
Well, I sent my list in last night.

Speaker 10 (36:55):
I didn't even see Gennaro's list, but we're pretty much
straight on. I had the Kansas City Chiefs number five,
and of course the chief has some stars like a
Chris Jones and McDuffie in the secondary there, but really
the mastermind is Steve Spagnolo and no.

Speaker 8 (37:09):
Matter the pieces that he has, they're the tough guys,
the smart guys. Spags is going to find a way.

Speaker 10 (37:14):
The last two years they've led the NFL with eighteen
point two points per game, leading the league there, and
I think Spags will do it again.

Speaker 2 (37:23):
Chiefs have been very fortunate Spags has not become the
head coach again because he's their defensive coordinator. A remark,
what about number four?

Speaker 8 (37:31):
Well, number four yet Houston. I got Minnesota in there.

Speaker 10 (37:33):
In Minnesota led the league last year and takeaways and interceptions,
and they're only going to be better because they signed
Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave to get shore up that
inside there. And then also Dallas Turner, last year's first
round draft pick, we didn't really produce much.

Speaker 8 (37:49):
I expect him to take a big leap.

Speaker 10 (37:51):
This year to provide even more havoc upfront for Brian
Flora's blitz scheme in that d end.

Speaker 2 (37:59):
And Floras brings it, expect him to do it again
this year. What about number three.

Speaker 1 (38:05):
Number three?

Speaker 10 (38:06):
The Philadelphia Eagles, the defending champions there and they lost
a lot with Sweat and BG and Milton Williams getting
the big Payda and Slay, but a lot of young
talent coming back with Jalen Carter. And also keep your
eye on Jahad Campbell, who I talked about earlier, the
first round draft pick who will absolutely be an All
Pro player in the future. And of course Nick Fango,

(38:28):
another mastermind back.

Speaker 8 (38:29):
There, will have the Eagles right there. Back in contention.

Speaker 2 (38:34):
Five four three? What about number two, mark number two?

Speaker 8 (38:39):
We got the flip here.

Speaker 10 (38:40):
Gennaro's got the Broncos at one, but I have them
at number two.

Speaker 8 (38:43):
They could end up being number one.

Speaker 10 (38:45):
But last year Advance Joseph really had that defense cooking,
leading the league in.

Speaker 8 (38:49):
Sacks, third in points per game.

Speaker 10 (38:51):
And again they only got better by signing the forty
nine ers due of re Law and Hufunga, and then
first round pick Johddy Baron, another one of my favorite
to watching scout, who will be an absolute versatile piece
in that secondary along with Defensive Player of the Year
Patrick certain I In.

Speaker 2 (39:10):
So, if the Broncos are number two, who is number one?

Speaker 8 (39:15):
Number one?

Speaker 10 (39:16):
The Baltimore Ravens, who from Week eleven on last year
were the best defense in the NFL end points per
game and total yards per game, and again they've only
gotten better with Zach Orr getting that experience a defensive coordinator.
But also look at the personnel they brought in. They're
already loaded there and now they bring in first round
draft pick Malachi Starts out of Georgia, the versatile safety

(39:39):
Mike Gree who was the pass.

Speaker 8 (39:41):
Rusher outside of Abdul Carter.

Speaker 10 (39:42):
Last year, and then signed JayR Alexander to go in
that secondary that might be the best of the NFL,
the best in NFL history, we'll see.

Speaker 8 (39:50):
So they're going to be number one with all those
pieces in.

Speaker 2 (39:54):
And that Gyr Alexander thing happened a mil of the summer.
People probably still haven't thought about it. They will when
season begins. Mark, thank you very much. Great Stuff is always.
For the full list from Gennaro, go to NFL dot
com slash police for more of what Mark thinks to
keep watching the Insiders. He's on all the time anyway,
great Stuff. Appreciate you, Mark.

Speaker 1 (40:17):
It was a big throwback Tuesday, several teams announcing alternate jerseys,
including look at these beauties. Let's be honest, in the
seventies and eighties you thought that they were completely ugly,
but now they're retro. The Bucks going full Creampsicle. Can't
wait to see Baker Mayfield and Mike Evans making some
connections in those this fall. And speaking of connections, let's

(40:38):
play a little game right now called NFL Connections. Ian
I believe that you have been briefed on the rules
of this game. We're going to show you sixteen words.
You've got to try to group as many as possible
intergroups of four that have some type of connection between
those words. Sixty seconds on the clock and go rap report.

Speaker 2 (40:58):
By the way these games, by the way, if you said,
torture you by making them do on the New York
Times out they're awful. I'll start. I see my name there, Okay,
I see pl that's your name. I see Bat that's
Bautista and Ga R for garaf Folo. Okay, so I
got the initial the first couple letters of our name.

(41:21):
That's one group. Okay, I got that one. I think
we got some running backs, right, So we got Barkley,
we got Ashton, we got Tyler, and surely there is
a running back name. What that's wrong? No, there is
a running back. How did that be wrong?

Speaker 1 (41:43):
Can you hear the buzzer? If we bunched you enough times,
you get one more guests? Here? You got like ten
seconds left? Anything else?

Speaker 2 (41:50):
This is a stupid game. I don't have any other guesses.
My guess was great. Why is that not what you
guys were thinking? It was a problem with these games.
It doesn't make any.

Speaker 1 (42:01):
Ground draft picks. It was first round draft picks. Let's
show the graphic again, your first round draft picks, which
was cam Ward, Travis Hunter, Ashton Genty is in there
and Tyler Warren. You got MVP finalists from last year.
This is when the Hall of Fame class right there.
So you were very close technically. I think you get

(42:23):
three wrong answers before we would buzz you completely off
the game and kick you off till tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (42:27):
Guess what he is part of this because you were
thinking that miserably, It doesn't mean that's actually what the
connection was. It doesn't make any sense.

Speaker 1 (42:36):
We are now going to play this game because you're
thinking the one I'm thinking. And guess what they you
were back tomorrow seven Eastern see it
