It's where they're practicing, guys. They're all spread out throughout
the area. Stacy Dale's all over the Patriots beat this week,
and of course Stacey Dale's with the Seahawks.

I'll start with the New England Patriots and the fact
that I'm sure in some conference room in the Patriots
team hotel last night they did a slow clap for
their coach of the year newly minted in Mike Rabel.
What do you have with the latest on Rabel?
Speaker 9 (04:24):
Listen, Jamie, what a life this man has led. He
has been to four Super Bowls as a player, one
to three. He has now got a Super Bowl berth
in his first year with the organization that he was
drafted by, and then last night his second Coach of
the Year award. You know, when you talk to people
about Mike Rabel, they will tell you how much he cares.
But I found myself going through my phone last night

and really appreciative for a text that he sent me
nearly two years ago Monday.

It reads simply, I'm sorry.
Speaker 9 (04:52):
Jane followed up two days later with this morning, how
you doing, how's your dad?
Speaker 5 (04:57):
Just thinking about you and your family.
Speaker 9 (04:59):
My mother passed away nearly two years ago on Super
Bowl weekend after an aggressive sixteen month battle with lung
cancer and three days of a steady traumatic decline before
she passed.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
I was in the dumps.
Speaker 9 (05:10):
It's Super Bowl in Vegas, and upon learning the news,
Rabel sent that text within hours of the news, and
then he followed up two days later. We have relationships
in this league, but that was real And when players
talk about Rabel, their experiences are the same.
Speaker 10 (05:24):
Brady's drafted me, extended me in Tennessee. Obviously I'm here
in New England because of him. So as far as
my career, I mean, like I said, I'm extremely grateful
for everything he's done for me in my career, but
then also off the field, he means a lot to
me and my family, So absolutely all goes Rabel as.
Speaker 11 (05:40):
The man he's been to Saint since day when we
met him. He coaches is hard, he expects a lot
at us, and as he says, he treats us the
way we treat the team. I think it's been the
coolest thing. He cares about us off the field. He
expects a lot of us on the field, but at
the same time, he's the same person each every day,
and we.

Love him for it.

He was a dog, you know. He kind of instills
that if you already don't got it. You know, I'm saying,
I feel like our team kind of came with that
chip on his shoulder, the guys that he picked to
be on his team and how he built it from
the ground up. He take cares of it, TC takes
care of us. But you know, I'm trying to think
of all the reasons that's different, but coach and any
day just buying into his process.

As kind as he is, he can also be pretty demanding.

Thursday's practice left a lot to be desired, especially when
we talk about the red zone like he's really into
making sure that his guys are ready for situational football.
Those two minute drills of the red zone. He says,
they've got to clean it up. It's one thing to
have mistakes, but you can't have one mistake after another
after another. May a full participant in practice, and here's
some good news. Linebacker Roberts Mulane, who has at left

eggle injury, told me this week he's one hundred percent
certain that he is going to be on the field
on Sunday, although a team source told me, look, we.

of the Year award. By the way, another full participant
in practice yesterday for the Seahawks their quarterback Sam Darnold
for the first time since the oblique injury back on
January the fifteenth.

Last night, of course, was the Offensive Player of the Year,
none other than Jackson Smith and Jigba. He took home
two hundred and seventy two total votes fourteen first place votes.
He had forty nine more total votes than Christian McCaffrey,
who was second the runner up.

And he's been nothing short of special. I asked his
head coach.
Speaker 13 (07:41):
Mike McDonald this week if you had to scheme against him,
because remember Mike McDonald calls the defense and he's a
genius when he comes to calling defenses. How would you
scheme up this guy? How would you pursue him? And
he kind of laughed and said, how many guys can

he's been. Go talk to Cooper Cup, which I did yesterday,

and I asked Cooper what is the uniqueness of competing
with and playing alongside Jackson Smith and Jigba, because Cooper
has had an illustrious career of his own now in
his eighth season, and he said, man, this guy keeps
you on your toes.

And interestingly, Kupp told me he is actually learning new
things from Jackson Smith and Jigba as he told me
quote new ways to think about the receiver position.

And he talked to me about how as a receiver
you're taught.

To always stay at one level in your route and
at that same time your hips have a tendency to sink. Well,
that's not the case with JSN, he said, He's always
at that one level. And the uniqueness of it is
feet are so low to the ground. He compared him
almost to a Slallemn skier on the slopes in terms

of how well Jackson Smith and Jigba runs those routes.

Sam Donald spoke about what this week leading up to
the Super Bowl has meant to him.

There are quite a few players that shared the consensus.
It kind of feels like training camp again. Like we're
all here in the hotel. We're we're able to just
hang out and spend a bunch of time together where
I feel like during the week, during the course of
a normal week that doesn't necessarily happen. Yeah, you know,
we're hanging out with each other in the locker room
from whenever six thirty in the morning to six at night.

But to be able to actually like you know, eat
snack together, like little things like that that you know,
you don't get to do during the course of a season.
So it's great to be with the guys again, busting
to the practice facility, spending time in that locker room,
busting back. So it's just I think, enjoy this moment
is such a key for myself, but a lot of
guys in that locker room, I know they feel the

same way.

Kenneth Walker in this rushing attack has to be the difference.
You know, Mike Rabel's been telling his squad. If we
can't stop the run, we've cooked, right, And that's because
the Seahawks lead the league and rush attempts. And on
top of that, when you have an official run game,
you shorten a game, you protect the quarterback, you stay
beloge the office, and you're able to stay on time.
And that's what they need to do in this game.
Kenneth Walker, you gotta stay. They lost Zach Jerbnet yea,

so now he's been the lead dog. And go back
to that NFC Championship game, go back to open and
drive man. They won eighty one yards Keneth Walker capped

So one way to kind of bring Sam down and say, hey, man,
let's check in and go to work. Get that wrong
game going today. Able to do that, man, they're gonna
be big time.

people are giving the Patriots they're due when it comes
to stopping the run. When you talk about Christian Barmark,
Chius Tonga and Melton Milton Williams in the middle. It's
going to be a lot tougher for them to run
the ball. The Seattle Seahawks, however, my take on this,
the Seattle Seahawks will win if they simply don't turn
the ball over in their own side of the field.

If you don't turn the ball over on your side
of the end, you will win this game. Do not
put the Patriots on a short field. Do not put
the Patriots where their first possession. They can kick a
field goal and have three points as long as you
make sure that the Patriots start on their side of
the field.

look at the games that Seattle won this season, and

he doesn't hold on to it too long, they're going

better team. They're gonna get the job done if they

You know, even if Kenneth Walker's not busting out big
sixty five yard runs, if they can just get ahead
on down and distance and they can just chip away,

They're gonna go to work, and so that allows him
to cover on the back end. And when you talk
about big cat Linn Williams in this group, you know,
there's been so much talk about these two nose tackles
with balmar And and Willias. They've been here about them all week.
You don't think they a little you know, hacked all.
They're like, no, we got a really good defensive line too.
I know the Patriots defense has had this assurgence and
they've been doing really well during the playoffs, but this
Seahawks defense has been consistent all year. Didn't just show

up in the playoffs. They've been kicking butt all year.
So I just feel a lot I have a lot
of confidence in the defense. I know what the run
game does for the offense. And I just believe Sam.
You talked about him being spotty, if you will, like
I go back to that Week sixteen game against the
Rams when they shootout.

his first year of eligibility as well. That was a
jam packed NFL Honors show last night, a lot to
get to. So let's take a moment here on GMFB
on the Friday before Super Bowl sixty to review some
of our favorite moments from last night. Mantai, I will
start with you and one of those names that I

just mentioned from the Hall of Fame class.
Speaker 8 (20:58):
Yeah, you know, for me, family is a big thing
to me, as everybody knows that. This table and one
of the individuals on the far left that graphic that
we saw with Drew Brees seeing him get into the
Hall of Fame. I mean, I didn't think there was
a question that he'll be a first batlet Hall of Famer,
but what a night it was for him. I'm so
happy for him and his wife Britt and all of
their kids. He was one of the greatest man, not

only one of the greatest players, one of the greatest quarterbacks,
but one of the greatest human beings. If there's a
Hall of Fame for human beings as well, he would
be a first.

Ballot Hall of Famer in that as well.
Speaker 8 (21:29):
The impact that he's had on the game and also
the city of New Orleans has been tremendous. And he
met with Steve Weisch last night and they shared.

Yeah, for me, Dru, there probably isn't a huge rise
that you went on the first ballot, but just all
of your accomplishments and now you're able to kind of
reflect back at a moment like this, what's that like?

I would just say this, there's a lot of people
riding with me, you know. I just got out the
phone with Sean Payton, Mickey Loomis, two of the guys
most responsible for this, and then just bringing me to
New Orleans, you know, believing in me at a time
when it was kind of hard to believe in myself,
you know, coming off that injury from the San Diego
Chargers and I'm not sure what the rest of my

career would look like.

And yet just with.
Speaker 18 (22:17):
Unwavering positivity and hope and belief, you know, I had
Sean Payton look at me in the eye saying you're
my guy, and we're gonna build this offense around you.
We're gonna go do something special. And Mickey limits the
same way so I just I owe so much to
those guys, and honestly, every day, every day that I
stepped from the facility, I wanted to prove them right.

Well, you are a guy, Drew. Congratulations, big oos. I
am so grateful for you and then impact you out
of my life and you know you'll be You'll be
there forever in the Hall of Fame.

Yeah, you know one of my favorite moments. Finally the
big uglies up front got some love. Watching Joe Thuney
get a Protector of the Year was was awesome. You know,
quarterbacks get the commercials, big fellas, we finally got our.

You listen, you under said, this man came from the Chiefs,
landed in Chicago, anchored the office line.

This office line gave.

He comes in, they cut that down a half to
twenty four. And you know, he what I love about
the award him getting in that it was other office
line that stepped up and kind of say, hey, pay
attention to this guy who.

Needs the man correct And you know, listen, for every
fat kid who watches the quarterback want to be at
running back.
Speaker 4 (23:25):
Now you can look at him and say, you know what, big.

Fellaws get love, they get awards. This I'm watching Pinea school, you.

Know, him catching the ball like it's about time the
big fellows.

Show range and we finally we get some love.

So detected the year, it's Joe.

It was a great first class of nominees for that
category as well. It's an awesome group.

The MVP.

Of course, we saw that shot of Stafford and his daughters.
It was an incredible moment for that family. He now
becomes the oldest quarterback to win MVP in his in
his first MVP candidacy, so he's thirty seven years old,
about to be thirty eight, first time MVP. That moment
with his daughters were all parents at the table. We
were super happy for the Stafford family. But it reminds
me of a narrative that was out about Stafford before
(24:06):
the season started, when his back was hurting and he
wasn't pracked to participating in training camp. We had the
president of the Rams, Kevin Demoff, come on and we
questioned what was going on with his quarterback.

Let's take a listen.

You know, Kevin, when you said earlier that you get
a laugh at about the Matthew Stafford is no longer
living in a rumor.
Speaker 6 (24:23):
That's not a denial. I just have to call you.

That's not a denial. Can you give proof of life
to the internet? They demand it.

I don't think I could give proof of life, and
I don't know that I want to stop it either, Right,
because if Matthew Stafford comes out and throws for four
hundred yards against the Texans and is the player of
the week, I want people to wonder whether that's actually
Matthew staff Nice or whether it's truly some clone that
we have found that's.

Going to go on and win MVP.

Right, that's an amazing storyline I think for the NFL
this year, Like, is that actually Matthew Stafford?

I don't care if it was real Stafford, AI Stafford
or clone Stafford. That guy won an MVP this season.
Congratulations to him. But you on demof were on the
same page ahead of the season.

on what everybody's saying. You mentioned all the stats, Isaiah Kyle.
You mentioned Randy Ordon, perfect example. He's a guy who
does it all. He's got the harder I'm not going
to go into the stats, and you got all that done.
He's got all the numbers to be the greatest quarterback
of this generation.

But not underappreciated.

That's the thing is.

I still think going into this season he was underrated.
I really think that, and he proved everybody wrong. Injuries aside.
I mean, he had the season of his life MVP.
It was fantastic. I look ridiculous in that. Why didn't
anybody stop me? No one stopped me that day and said,
you look ridiculous. This was an incredible moment last night.

And you know you saw him like walking in with
his daughters too, like on the carpet and they're just
so adorable.

But I was like, oh, yeah, he's gotta win. Oh
my god. It was a close vote though. It was
a super close vote. Yeah yeah, I wrote it.

It was super close, and I think that makes it exciting,
Oh so exciting.

Stafford and McVeigh and like the Rams were so good.
I don't think we understand how good that team was serious,
you know what I mean? Like they they may be
the second best team in the NFL.

I think there was a the reason McVay was so
upset after that losses is see, like he knew that
was a Super Bowl champion type tso and they aren't
even playing. I just want to go back to the
Hall of Famers, Like this is a really really cool deal.
It always is. Breeze is no surprise, but Gerald was
no surprise. Even Keith Lee to everybody loves Keith Lee
so much. First of all, Roger Craig is an astonishing
thing to see. I understand, this guy is in his
mid six he has been out.

Of the game for three decades.

And if you go back and remember Roger Craig, he
really changed the position in terms of a receiver, in
terms of he's known for his high knees and breaking tackles,
like it's the kind of thing that your coach would
show you. In the eighties, watch how Roger Craig runs
the ball. I didn't think he would ever get in.
It just happens that way. Sometimes guys don't get in.
Roger Kaig being in is an awesome thing. And by
the way, I don't know if this is controversial or not.
I love Adam Minitary being in.

I don't care if you're a kicker. And someone might.

Say, how does Adam Military get in and Tory Holt

Adam Military is responsible for Tom Brady's legacy, for Bill
Belichick's legacy. If he misses those kicks in the snow

It's because of him. His foot put many people into

want a debate about that's what the Hall of Fame's about.
But my debate is like, it's the greatest clutch kicker

of all time. And I would love the fact that
he's a Hall of Famer.

a lot, and that's Miles Garrett. Week eighteen, when he
broke the single season sack record you celebrated with the
reft you high? Did you know that you're celebrating with
the ref and to how excited were you for Miles.

Man? Like you just can see the genuine, pure excitement,
you know. And the way we look at it is
this is a team record, like this is something that
we as a D line and a front seven facing.
And if you watch the season, the last three weeks
of the year, every team did everything possible to try
to stop Miles from getting that record. And so in
the fourth quarter of this game, we're over here looking

around like, are we about to come up with sack short?
And so it was this pure excitement. Everybody around was
so exciting, and I think that talks to Miles, how excited,
how good of a person we are Miles is, and
we are so excited for him and everything that he does,
and the excitement from the team is exactly what you

a year with the Seahawks defense. They've been an absolute

I just believe do not get too high up on
the Seahawks because Mike Vrabel, Yeah, the New England Patricks
and a suspending. He was with us last year as
an advisor in Cleveland, and Mike does things the right way.

in his first year with the organization that he was
drafted by, and then last night his second Coach of

about Mike Rabel, they will tell you how much he cares.
But I found myself going through my phone last night

and really appreciative for a text that he sent me
nearly two years ago Monday.

My mother passed away nearly two years ago on Super
Bowl weekend after an aggressive sixteen month battle with lung
cancer and three days of a steady traumatic decline before
she passed.

It's Super Bowl in Vegas, and upon learning the news,
Rabel sent that text within hours of the news, and
then he followed up two days later. We have relationships
in this league, but that was real And when players
talk about Rabel, their experiences are the same.

Brady's drafted me, extended me in Tennessee. Obviously I'm here
in New England because of him. So as far as
my career, I mean, like I said, I'm extremely grateful
for everything he's done for me in my career, but
then also off the field, he means a lot to
me and my family, So absolutely all goes Rabel as.

The man he's been to Saint since day when we
met him. He coaches is hard, he expects a lot
at us, and as he says, he treats us the
way we treat the team. I think it's been the
coolest thing. He cares about us off the field. He
expects a lot of us on the field, but at
the same time, he's the same person each every day,

He was a dog, you know. He kind of instills
that if you already don't got it. You know, I'm saying,
I feel like our team kind of came with that
chip on his shoulder, the guys that he picked to

of all the reasons that's different, but coach and any
day just buying into his process.

Last night, of course, was the Offensive Player of the Year,
none other than Jackson Smith and Jigba. He took home

And he's been nothing short of special. I asked his
head coach.

Mike McDonald this week if you had to scheme against him,
because remember Mike McDonald calls the defense and he's a
genius when he comes to calling defenses. How would you
scheme up this guy? How would you pursue him? And
he kind of laughed and said, how many guys can
I send? And ultimately though the teammates and how impressive
he's been. Go talk to Cooper Cup, which I did yesterday,

and I asked Cooper what is the uniqueness of competing
with and playing alongside Jackson Smith and Jigba, because Cooper
has had an illustrious career of his own now in
his eighth season, and he said, man, this guy keeps
you on your toes.

And interestingly, Kupp told me he is actually learning new
things from Jackson Smith and Jigba as he told me
quote new ways to think about the receiver position.

To always stay at one level in your route and
at that same time your hips have a tendency to sink. Well,
that's not the case with JSN, he said, He's always
at that one level. And the uniqueness of it is

from whenever six thirty in the morning to six at night.

So it's great to be with the guys again, busting
to the practice facility, spending time in that locker room,
busting back. So it's just I think, enjoy this moment

guys in that locker room, I know they feel the

And that's what they need to do in this game.

the Seattle Seahawks will win if they simply don't turn

better team. They're gonna get the job done if they

I know the Patriots defense has had this assurgence and
they've been doing really well during the playoffs, but this
Seahawks defense has been consistent all year. Didn't just show

of confidence in the defense. I know what the run
game does for the offense. And I just believe Sam.

Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald voted in in his first
year of eligibility, and five time first Team All Pro

linebacker Luke Keighley, who is and the career leader in
points of course, kicker Adam Vinteri takes it in in
his first year of eligibility as well. That was a
jam packed NFL Honors show last night, a lot to
get to. So let's take a moment here on GMFB
on the Friday before Super Bowl sixty to review some
of our favorite moments from last night. Mantai, I will
start with you and one of those names that I

just mentioned from the Hall of Fame class.

Yeah, you know, for me, family is a big thing
to me, as everybody knows that. This table and one
of the individuals on the far left that graphic that
we saw with Drew Brees seeing him get into the
Hall of Fame. I mean, I didn't think there was
a question that he'll be a first batlet Hall of Famer,
but what a night it was for him. I'm so
happy for him and his wife Britt and all of
their kids. He was one of the greatest man, not

only one of the greatest players, one of the greatest quarterbacks,
but one of the greatest human beings. If there's a
Hall of Fame for human beings as well, he would
be a first.

Ballot Hall of Famer in that as well.

The impact that he's had on the game and also
the city of New Orleans has been tremendous. And he
met with Steve Weisch last night and they shared.

Yeah, for me, Dru, there probably isn't a huge rise
that you went on the first ballot, but just all
of your accomplishments and now you're able to kind of
reflect back at a moment like this, what's that like?

phone with Sean Payton, Mickey Loomis, two of the guys
most responsible for this, and then just bringing me to
New Orleans, you know, believing in me at a time

Chargers and I'm not sure what the rest of my

career would look like.

Unwavering positivity and hope and belief, you know, I had

stepped from the facility, I wanted to prove them right.

am so grateful for you and then impact you out

You listen, you under said, this man came from the Chiefs,

twenty four. And you know, he what I love about
the award him getting in that it was other office

fat kid who watches the quarterback want to be at
running back.

Now you can look at him and say, you know what, big.

Know, him catching the ball like it's about time the
big fellows.

It was a great first class of nominees for that

Of course, we saw that shot of Stafford and his daughters.
It was an incredible moment for that family. He now
becomes the oldest quarterback to win MVP in his in
his first MVP candidacy, so he's thirty seven years old,
about to be thirty eight, first time MVP. That moment
with his daughters were all parents at the table. We
were super happy for the Stafford family. But it reminds
me of a narrative that was out about Stafford before

the season started, when his back was hurting and he
wasn't pracked to participating in training camp. We had the
president of the Rams, Kevin Demoff, come on and we
questioned what was going on with his quarterback.

You know, Kevin, when you said earlier that you get
a laugh at about the Matthew Stafford is no longer
living in a rumor.

I don't think I could give proof of life, and

He's got all the numbers to be the greatest quarterback
of this generation.

When you're talking about that hurting the team, there's a
person that's really helped the team and helped the team
a lot, and that's Miles Garrett. Week eighteen, when he
broke the single season sack record you celebrated with the
reft you high? Did you know that you're celebrating with
the ref and to how excited were you for Miles.
Speaker 4 (33:17):
Man? Like you just can see the genuine, pure excitement,
you know. And the way we look at it is
this is a team record, like this is something that
we as a D line and a front seven facing.
And if you watch the season, the last three weeks
of the year, every team did everything possible to try
to stop Miles from getting that record. And so in
the fourth quarter of this game, we're over here looking

around like, are we about to come up with sack short?
And so it was this pure excitement. Everybody around was
so exciting, and I think that talks to Miles, how excited,
how good of a person we are Miles is, and
we are so excited for him and everything that he does,
and the excitement from the team is exactly what you

would expect.

Tell me, Shelvy, were there their meetings within a D
line room when you're watching him, like, Miles, we're gonna
get this one this week.
Speaker 4 (34:10):
Every week, every week. But also though that's how mentality anyway,
with dogs up front, that's what we're going to do.
So We're going to go out there and ball out
every week. That our success is determined by how we play.
So having Miles and then also don't forget we got
Carson too defensive with me the year, so we got
some dogs.

Just like you said, if someone disrespected your family on
the street, Shelby, if somebody just walked around with their
hand up like this, I feel like you're just high
five high. That that ref just was like I'm stopping
the play, like no, I'm celebrating.

He just looked at me kind of crazy, like it
was just it was a wild thing. He just looked
at me like really contact, That's what's crazy. Literally, that
same day, Alex Pearce got a flag for touching the
ref and so everyone's like, yeah.
Speaker 2 (35:06):
Yeah, Shell be real quick game on Sunday. You spend
a year with the Seahawks defense. They've been an absolute
four assist season. What's your take on this matchup and
what are your thoughts.
Speaker 4 (35:16):
I just believe do not get too high up on
the Seahawks because Mike Vrabel, Yeah, the New England Patricks
and a suspending. He was with us last year as
an advisor in Cleveland, and Mike does things the right way.
He's going to have his guys ready to play, and
just think about it, Like when you see him high
fiving and hugging every player coming off the field, that's real. Yeah,
And that's how he feels about all his players. And

when you have the feeling of belief behind you, you
can do anything. So that's why you can never kind
of the Patriots like they have people that are playing

coming back from cancer and then like having that miraculous
recovery and then going to be there on Sunday with them,
