my lifetime.

the year before we got dominated by Louisville. Yes, they dominated,
and they were big favorites coming into that game. Yeah,
h favorite, So we had a chip on our shoulder,
you know, we had the community and commonwealth at our back,
and yeah we Stevie got loose. How did you get loose? Well,

actually seen it the play before. So the play before that,
it was a penalty, I believe, and the guys wasn't
covering me. The safety stayed on Jacob Tammy and we
ran four verts and I went back to said, Dre,
it's there. Just look at me. I'm telling you it's there.
So we got the penalty. Nobody was worried about penalty
was on uh Jarmon, No, not Jeremy Scott.

Yeah, and nobody was up was upset at Eastcott either
because he was protecting Drake. I was upset yea, yeah,

out there and they did the exact same coverage and
it was it was money.

That is the loudest I ever remember CommonWell Stadium being

And the only time I felt that was my first
hundred yard game against Arkansas Women Fatten and that was
a great game too.

That was a great game. Now when you scored, uh,
we win the game, and then it has become like
your thing. In Lexington, stevee got loose. It started from
us because one of my drunk friends was in the
parking lot and he goes Man.

In clothes? What a travel? Okay? Right, but when you
get there, you're not gonna eat golf. You're going naked,
not eating No Terrell Davis travels naked.

The problem with eating is you eat, so you eat
right now in two hours, you're gonna be what you're gonna.

Have to eat a year exactly. So what you do
just wage four hundred dollars on some on some on
a steak.

That's an interesting theory. I mean, that's how you always
have to keep feeding it. I know there is no content.
It's like that is kind of how so you look
up and you're like, man, I just spend six thousand dollars,
I'm still hungry. But that's kind of how all.

Forms of life have sustained themselves over this year.

I'm just saying, man, like you really think about it,
food is the biggest waste of a buddy.

It's great to see you here. Uh do you what
do you think of I mean, you played in these
Super Bowls? When you see something like this, what do
you think of this entire media radio row experience?
Speaker 2 (15:04):
I love it. I love it, man.
Speaker 6 (15:05):
I see the Super Bowl thirty two banner right there
on the side. That brings back memories. I'm from San
Diego in the plan my first Super Bowl in San Diego.
So that was that was an experience that I just
couldn't have dreamed of and we won the game.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
Which field for that first game, I mean, there has
to be a moment. Are are you sitting there thinking
about all the things that got you there? Or are
you just locked in totally on the game.
Speaker 6 (15:31):
You try, all right, they tell you that it's a
normal game, or you try to. You try to convince
yourself it's a normal game. But the minute you go
out on pregame, you realize quickly this is not a
normal game, and so you're what you try to do
is is try to look for familiar things to bring
your breathing down and.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
Just trying to make yourself comfortable.
Speaker 6 (15:50):
So I was able to go out there and just like,
hey man, the field is still one hundred yards, Like
start looking for things that I was familiar with. You know,
they only have eleven guys on defense. Nothing's different about
those things. Once it starts, are you able to block
all that out there?
Speaker 2 (16:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (16:05):
Yeah, one starts, But it's the pregame because you see
all the media credential you see, you know, the blamp
you see like I mean, the colors, the different I mean,
the sidelines are packed with like forty to fifty different
national you know, nations and TVs. So it's it's it's
and then celebrities all over the place.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
You see it.
Speaker 6 (16:23):
And so then once you come between the lines, you
try to remind yourself, all right, man, we've done this
for I don't know what eighteen weeks. Man, it's the
same thing. Let's just let's just stay let's just stay
in the moment and just look at this thing played
by playing and they worry about situations as they come up.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
Well, that moment worked out for you twice, and once
you were the MVP. How much now further on in life,
just being a super Bowl champion, in that honor kind
of take on your identity and really be who you are.
Is that carry with you being the Super Bowl champion?
Nobody had another another layer? Nobody cares. My kids don't care.
Speaker 6 (16:58):
So here's still a lame day exact. So here's what
I realized that none of that stuff even matters.

Man.

When you have kids and they get older, yeah, and
they don't respect you. They don't do things in the
house that you asked them to do. They don't care
that you have a gold jacket.

They don't care.

So if they don't clean up after themselves, you're not like, look,
I won a Super Bowl MVP.

I play with John Lay and I won the MVP.

You're still they don't care. I leave the house, man,
I got people that hey, great super Bowl MVP TV.

I walk in them doors, and it's like I have
to try to establish myself as as you know, I
have to build some credibility amongst them in the house,
which is weird and so and so. The other thing, too,
is like this time of the year, which is cool
and so, like when they put a stat on TV.
We're watching the Super Bowl or something, they might put
up a stat that says, hey, you know, most rushing
yards since Terrol Daves or they're a short chart. And

that's when I get a chance to be like, see,
I told you guys, you see that right there.

I was. I will pause it.
Speaker 6 (18:00):
You know, take a picture of it, start saluting them,
teaching them to salute, and then they go like, Dad,
well you were no Derrick Henry.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
You know what Derrick Henry would have kicked. Yeah, Like
when Saku broke my record last year. Yeah, they were
giving me some trouble.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
NFL's changed since you were in the league, just in
terms of our offensives offensive run right, I mean it
is a lot more fast paced, a lot more throwt
What do you think a player like you, if you
played today, how.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Does that go?

It wouldn't have benefited me today, It would not. No,
I wouldn't have had I wouldn't have had an opportunity
really to carve my niche in today's football. And let
me explain, they don't. The run game is Is that
a very is It is a very expensive thing to
have time wise, you know, committment, you know resources to

the running game. And you don't you need to hit.
You needed you need to physically go out there and hit.
You need to be able to see timing and mesh
points and stuff. The league only you have a limited
amount of practices, a limited amount of padded practices.

You have to assimilate things you have to.
Speaker 6 (19:04):
Do walk through when you have a run game, and
that's not how we built a running game.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
I like that you though, I appreciate that about you,
that you're actually like honest and going, look my style
was for my era and this is a different area.
I feel like you would have found a way to
get yourself on the field though it contribute. Yeah, I'm
a football player, Yeah you were you.
Speaker 6 (19:24):
I'm gonna find a way to But it wouldn't have
been as a scatback. I might have been a I
don't know, safety default be Derek Kiddery. Now let me
ask you about the other TV dot com. Yeah, you
always when you were playing, people say TV touchdown, Yl Davis,
what about this TV? This is a sort of a disorder,
an issue that you have strong feelings about. I do, man,
(19:47):
It's uh, it's called tart of dysconnesia, and what it is.
It's it's basically a chronic condition that is caused by
taking certain prescription mental health medications and so normally it's
like an antipsychiical antidepressant that can cause really uncontrol.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Movements and your face.
Speaker 6 (20:09):
Your hands, your toes and your torso and so you're
trying to treat one thing and you're getting this sort
of you know, condition that's coming and a lot of
people don't even know it. And so for me, I've
experienced my own mental health and chronic conditions I know
for me, medication was an option, and so I can
imagine being there and having these movements and not knowing
(20:32):
what to do. So I just want to raise awareness,
use my platform or raise awareness to people who are
out there who are experiencing this condition while taking certain
prescription mental health medication. And if that's the case, please
go to theother TV dot com or consult your healthcare

I got freaked out because it was my first day
at ESPN. I was like, I know what up said Mike,
go what are they praying to put the fear God?

I think they were messing with me. So I've always
had that. I broke Mike Golick's chair on the mic, and.
Speaker 7 (23:07):
Mic I wondered why it never really worked after you
can break that chair right there on the ground.

We were talking about this the other day. You did
morning radio six to ten?
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Is that right? How did you get up like that
every day?
Speaker 7 (23:22):
I swore every morning the alarm went off at four
fifteen and I said a bad word, and then I
would I would get to work by five, and you know,
as you guys know, the day just starts. You know,
You're you're looking at notes, You're you're going over highlights,
you're you're getting ready for the especially when the show
went on TV as well, and you had to deal
(23:42):
with highlights as well. You just start to get caught
up in it. And the great thing was was I
was done it. The show was done at ten. I
was done for the day at eleven o'clock. What times
you have to go to bed though, and you had
to go to bed early, and watching Monday night football
was tough. I would get up the next morning and
watch the compressed highlights of it to try and get
(24:03):
caught up because you'd have to go to bed early.
But it did give me the opportunity to be a
lunch dad at my kids school and coach them and
all their little league stuff, which was like in the
late afternoon, and I was I was home by eleven
o'clock every day. So there were some pros, but the
cons is I lost out on about ten.

Years of sleep.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
I think we get this list, Mike, of all the
people that are going to be here that we're going
to be interviewing, and our man Billy next there. He
got the most excited when he saw Mike go. He
really did. He was like, if was it me or
for my son?

It was you I was listening to in the mornings
I was working at when you were a kid.

I was mowing rough at a golf course, and I'd
listened to Mike and Mike because it was an early job,
so you had to get up.

So it's a pinch me moment to be here with you, Mike.
I appreciate that, but I want to ask you how
rewarding was it to be to do this with your
son for him to get in the industry. I mean
mean a lot to you.
Speaker 7 (25:05):
It's very Yes, Yeah, I probably would not be doing
the show every day unless it was with my son.
I'd probably doing be more more part time stuff calling
games for Westwood One, which I've been doing for a
few years. But I try not to take it for
granted that when the mic goes on, it's my kid
there and we're doing the show together.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
I would like him to respect me a little more
and bend at the knee.
Speaker 7 (25:28):
But but we disagree more than I thought he has.
Oddly enough, he has his own thoughts and he expresses
them well.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
I mean you're used to that.

I am you and Greenberg sometimes did that as well,
and it's and I live by the same credo I
did with Greeney.

And actually Tony Bruno was the first a co host
I had is if you disagree with something on air,
you never take it off air, Okay, And that's the
same thing with my son. We could disagree with things
on air, but there's no reason to take it off air.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
I didn't know you worked with Tony Bruno.
Speaker 7 (26:00):
Tony Bruno was actually the first one at the ESPN radio.
You should tell that guy to have an opinion now
ruggles doesn't he. I was working with him for a year.
I show it up one day and he was gone,
and I'm like, oh my god, what do I do now?
Speaker 2 (26:14):
He was just gone. He was gone, and they didn't
tell you. No. Oh, he didn't tell ESPN. Oh, he
he just left. He was gone.
Speaker 7 (26:24):
And that was in October of ninety nine. It took
three months of me working with potential new co host
before it was Greenie. Yeah, all right, so let's talk
about this football game. You got Seahawks Patriots.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
I've said that you don't see stories like Sam Darnold
in football. I wonder if Sam Darnald's story says, hey,
there's a lot of guys that could be good if
they got with the right team out of Kyle and.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
If they got a chance.

One of the reasons he is where he is because
he was the number three pick. Overall, you're always going
to get a chance somewhere you're the number.

If he was a fifth rounder, he'd have been done.

Went once he failed at a couple of spots, he'd
have been he'd have had to have another job. But
when you're a high pick, because that money was invested
in you, you're going to get a chance somewhere. And
to his credit, he is. He has overcome and he
is playing extremely good ball. And on the other side
of New England, there's another throwaway. I'm a Titans fan
and seeing Mike Rabel's success is killing me. How bad

Oh you messed up there? Yeah, I know. I'm wearing

I'm amazed at the lack of patience. Obviously, not like
a Pittsburgh Steelers or Baltimore with the two coaches a
law in nineteen and eighteen years. But it does amaze
me how quickly you give up and think the grass
is going to be green or somewhere else.

Sometimes guys get a head coaching job and they're not
supposed to be head coaches.

But he clearly is a head coach with this game.

I mean, it seems like most people just assume the
Seahawks are going to win.

You know, the Patriots.

I think they have a very good shot, and I
think Drake may it does not played well in the playoffs,
but it had such a great season, I could totally see.

I think people are too quick to dismiss their chances.
I mean, he just has to hang on the ball.
Too many fumbles. He had fumbles in the regular season
as well. He runs the ball well. I called the
Denver New England game where the second half became a
muted offense because of the snow, and he basically won
it with his legs. Was very impressive with his legs

as far as throwing the ball. He's got obviously Stefan Diggs,
Hunter Henry, but I don't worry as much about him
as I praise the Seattle defense. The Seattle defense is stifling.
They are they but now remember this New England offense
average about twenty nine points a game during the regular season.

They have the ability to score, but they need a
rock fight here. They need it to be a low
scoring game and their defense needs to step up as well,
which is a very good defense. By the way, in
New England.

They get short changed a little bit in the postseason
because New England faced some more some of the top
defenses in the postseason. We're obviously air on podcast, but
I do want you to talk for a second about
doing live radio four hours a day. In my opinion,
that's the hardest thing to do in sports to sit
there because you can't like hide, no you know what

I mean, You can't like throw the graphics. No, like
it is. You just have to go and if there's
nothing to talk about, you gotta talk anyway.

Yeah, oh yeah, there are especially out of the football season,
as you guys would know, it gets a little more difficult.
June July can be a little difficult. That's when you
start to do Mount Rushmore lists.

Yeah, but miss Bristol. Uh No, I don't really miss Bristol.
I miss ESPN and and and the setup there, but
I don't really miss Bristol. But uh, to your point
it it can be damning when you when you have

have nothing to say. It's exactly right. It could get

it can, especially for four hours. You're looking there are days.

There are many days listen, I did it for so
long where you look at your watch and you're going,

Is doing a show with one person four hours a day.
Is it like a marriage. Well, I mean you have
to have a connection. You have to have chemistry. And
Greeny and I had it right out right out of
the gate. We had really good chemistry.

be It's kind of like it's kind of like in
the booth doing do a game TV or radio. You
got to kind of have chemistry with the play by
play guy.

And to make it more conversationalike, and not just you talk,
U talk, you talk, you talk.

So, I was diagnosed with type two diabetes twenty years ago.
And back then you basically ate your meal, prick your
finger with a blood test and decide to saw what
your numbers were and tried to go from there. Now
it's modern technology. Stello is a glucose bio sensor that
you put on your arm. You can get it over
the counter, you don't need a prescription for it, and

get it off Amazon, and you have an app with
it and it gives you real time numbers of how
you're doing. You know, how sleep affects your glucose levels,
how workouts to how food does. And now in a
couple of months they're coming up with a smart food logging.

Take a picture of your meal and it will give
you all the info on your meal, so you know

I looked like a vanilla milkshake.

It was horrible. And then a few years after I
was done playing, I was diagnosed with Type two and
I knew I had to change my ways my eating
and and stello and uh.

And now he's like, walk around with your shirt off,
like you look at me. Not not yet.

I would love to be able to walk around with
no shirt on, but I can't do that just yet.

Ever be able to do that. Billy just did it

So Tony Dungee grabbed you buy the jacket and pulled
on you and seemed to want your attention.

And I watched this happen and I thought, why does

And I was on an elevated surface, I was up
on the stage.

He pulled in his jacket like a little child asking
for candy. He pulled in his jacket and was like,
and then he didn't know who you were because when.

You turned around, the look of disappointment on his face.
Party that had to hurt.
Speaker 3 (35:35):
Yeah, Well, I was actually talking to Uh, who's that
person right there?
Speaker 2 (35:39):
He's famous, the guy with the face face right there? Yeah,
I think he's a reporter. But what's his name? He's famous?
I need to stop looking at you. Go ahead. Well,
I was, I was talking.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
I was already in a celebrity interaction with Will Compton,
and he goes, Tony Dungee wants your attention, and I
was like, Tony.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
Said that, Yeah, Tony, Tony dunt is pulling on my shirt.
Speaker 3 (36:04):
And when I turned around, Tony's face mortified, like I
do not know this human.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
Yeah, it was clear he thought you were someone else.
And then he was like, but I've been tugging on
this stranger. She committed Tony. Tony Dungeon was was shirt
committed at that point. I was like, get off me, Tony.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
What can we possibly talk about it? And then when
we made eye contact, you've seen it go.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
He's tugging Tony.
Speaker 3 (36:25):
He's never He's like, I've never seen this human ever,
and I have nothing to say to him.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
Tugging Tony will forever be noticed. The guy who tugged
on Drew hoping to get his attention.
Speaker 2 (36:34):
You know what, you probably thought I was Jeff Saturday.
I get it a lot, former player, I should know it.
He did that. You know what, that's what Jeff Saturday.
Speaker 3 (36:43):
But you're not Jeff Well no, no, not Lineman big.
But I was on an elevated surface. He thought you
were Jeff Saturday. That was exactly who he thought. He
was tugging Tony thought you were Jeff Saturday. The only
thing I can come up with, because he was definitely
wanting to have a conversation.

Then the next thing that happened I was there for
this as well.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
We went to the restroom as people do break here
and uh, Drew Drew, I saw Derrick Henry walk to
the restaurant. So the only three people at the urinals
were me, Drew, and Derek Hiley. And I could see
on Drew's face that he wanted to talk to Derek Kinton.
(37:22):
Derrick Henry is like his Yeah, is he your favorite
player of all time?
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Nar than him? Right? And yeah, that'd probably be it.
And I knew he was in the building, so I've
been since we've walked in. I've been looking everywhere.
Speaker 3 (37:34):
I did not think we would be touching elbows at
the urinal would be the moment.
Speaker 1 (37:40):
Face him being like, I want to talk to Derrick Henry,
but I'm not sure I can with urinal things happening.
Speaker 2 (37:48):

And you didn't, do you regret it? First of all,
I got to paint the scene. There were seven eight urinals,
most of them open. I still don't know why he
was directly next to me in hindsight, what made him
walk to the one? I mean, he wanted you to
talk to but there wasn't a gap urinal between us.
I mean we are basically just stating, well, jar Hendry one,

He was hoping to have a conversation.

I wish there had been a reaction camera on me
because at first I was like, why is this guy
up on me?

And I kind of just glanced on my left and
it was like, oh, crimp, just one second. Who are
these two gentlemen in Bounty sweaters?

That is I believe Almon Ros Saint Brown and Pine School.

Yeah, why are they wearing Bounty mister Rogers sweaters?

Because when Bounty says wear this and pay you, I'm

So that's a mind. Saint Brown and uh pin Soool,
definitely Saint Brown. I believe it's Pine. How do you
recognize Pine Soola? Yeah? How many offensive linemen do you
recognize by face? Not a lot?

But he's a very I mean he's he was taking
I mean they took Jamar Chase and ahead of him.

So it was like a big thing, wasn't it? And

You know, I kind of just looked to my left,
not down at.

An angle, up at an angle, I'd say, oh my god,
this is Derrick Henry, and just straight downstair at the wall.

Don't move. I cannot have a conversation in that moment,
you understand. I think I think this was the chance.

It would have been weird, But I think it's sad
that this is like your favorite player.

And you did not speak to him when you had
a chance.

But granted it would have been weird, it is weird
to have conversations in that come.

This is a gigantic convention center. There's about five feet
of area where I cannot speak to Derrick Henry, and
that's where we met. I can't change that. You could
talk to him anywhere except the urinal. I just stared
at the brick wall. Wondering what life your point, that's
a really good point. That's probably the only place you
can't talk to him.

But this has been U lots of celebrity interaction. Who
do you think has been the most random person you've
run into here?
Speaker 2 (40:15):
You know?

I like seeing the because it's mostly athletes. I'm not
used to it yet because I'm still wide out looking around.
But I like seeing some of the celebrities that I
didn't expect, like the Workaholics crew that's across from us.
So not that I'm not enjoying the athletes, but the
random celebrities that I didn't expect to run into.

It's been neat seeing them.

I also enjoy, and I'm not gonna mention them. I
enjoy Billy the people that are walking around hoping someone
will ask them to come for an interview and then
and people don't. I get a little bit of I
find that interesting as well.

Like you feel bad for them.
Speaker 1 (40:48):
I mean I don't feel bad, it's just like I
don't know. There are levels of media, so we're on
the outside. This is like the national media, then there's
local media. I feel like a lot of them should
go in there because there are some people here. There
are people from all over the country. There's like radio stations.
I'm amazed how many people make the trip and.

Well, that sets up another story. We have to tell

I did not, because even better though, So I was like, yeah,
let's exchange contact big fan, you know whatever. And he

business card for this trip because I think he's trying
to get other jobs.

it was a penalty, I believe, and the guys wasn't
covering me. The safety stayed on Jacob Tammy and we

Super Bowls? When you see something like this, what do
you think of this entire media radio row experience?

I see the Super Bowl thirty two banner right there
on the side. That brings back memories. I'm from San
Diego in the plan my first Super Bowl in San Diego.
So that was that was an experience that I just
couldn't have dreamed of and we won the game.

Which field for that first game, I mean, there has
to be a moment. Are are you sitting there thinking
about all the things that got you there? Or are
you just locked in totally on the game.
Speaker 6 (15:31):
You try, all right, they tell you that it's a
normal game, or you try to. You try to convince
yourself it's a normal game. But the minute you go
out on pregame, you realize quickly this is not a
normal game, and so you're what you try to do
is is try to look for familiar things to bring
your breathing down and.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
Just trying to make yourself comfortable.
Speaker 6 (15:50):
So I was able to go out there and just like,
hey man, the field is still one hundred yards, Like
start looking for things that I was familiar with. You know,
they only have eleven guys on defense. Nothing's different about
those things. Once it starts, are you able to block
all that out there?
Speaker 2 (16:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (16:05):
Yeah, one starts, But it's the pregame because you see
all the media credential you see, you know, the blamp
you see like I mean, the colors, the different I mean,
the sidelines are packed with like forty to fifty different
national you know, nations and TVs. So it's it's it's
and then celebrities all over the place.

You see it.
Speaker 6 (16:23):
And so then once you come between the lines, you
try to remind yourself, all right, man, we've done this
for I don't know what eighteen weeks. Man, it's the
same thing. Let's just let's just stay let's just stay
in the moment and just look at this thing played
by playing and they worry about situations as they come up.

Well, that moment worked out for you twice, and once
you were the MVP. How much now further on in life,
just being a super Bowl champion, in that honor kind
of take on your identity and really be who you are.
Is that carry with you being the Super Bowl champion?
Nobody had another another layer? Nobody cares. My kids don't care.

I realized that none of that stuff even matters.

We're watching the Super Bowl or something, they might put
up a stat that says, hey, you know, most rushing
yards since Terrol Daves or they're a short chart. And

that's when I get a chance to be like, see,
I told you guys, you see that right there.

You know, take a picture of it, start saluting them,
teaching them to salute, and then they go like, Dad,

giving me some trouble.

NFL's changed since you were in the league, just in
terms of our offensives offensive run right, I mean it
is a lot more fast paced, a lot more throwt
What do you think a player like you, if you
played today, how.

It wouldn't have benefited me today, It would not. No,
I wouldn't have had I wouldn't have had an opportunity
really to carve my niche in today's football. And let
me explain, they don't. The run game is Is that
a very is It is a very expensive thing to
have time wise, you know, committment, you know resources to

the running game. And you don't you need to hit.
You needed you need to physically go out there and hit.
You need to be able to see timing and mesh
points and stuff. The league only you have a limited
amount of practices, a limited amount of padded practices.

You have to assimilate things you have to.

Do walk through when you have a run game, and
that's not how we built a running game.

I like that you though, I appreciate that about you,
that you're actually like honest and going, look my style

always when you were playing, people say TV touchdown, Yl Davis,
what about this TV? This is a sort of a disorder,
an issue that you have strong feelings about. I do, man,

It's uh, it's called tart of dysconnesia, and what it is.
It's it's basically a chronic condition that is caused by
taking certain prescription mental health medications and so normally it's
like an antipsychiical antidepressant that can cause really uncontrol.

Movements and your face.
Speaker 6 (20:09):
Your hands, your toes and your torso and so you're
trying to treat one thing and you're getting this sort
of you know, condition that's coming and a lot of
people don't even know it. And so for me, I've
experienced my own mental health and chronic conditions I know
for me, medication was an option, and so I can
imagine being there and having these movements and not knowing
(20:32):
what to do. So I just want to raise awareness,
use my platform or raise awareness to people who are
out there who are experiencing this condition while taking certain
prescription mental health medication. And if that's the case, please

would I would get to work by five, and you know,
as you guys know, the day just starts. You know,
You're you're looking at notes, You're you're going over highlights,
you're you're getting ready for the especially when the show
went on TV as well, and you had to deal
(23:42):
with highlights as well. You just start to get caught
up in it. And the great thing was was I
was done it. The show was done at ten. I
was done for the day at eleven o'clock. What times
you have to go to bed though, and you had
to go to bed early, and watching Monday night football
was tough. I would get up the next morning and
watch the compressed highlights of it to try and get
(24:03):
caught up because you'd have to go to bed early.
But it did give me the opportunity to be a
lunch dad at my kids school and coach them and
all their little league stuff, which was like in the
late afternoon, and I was I was home by eleven
o'clock every day. So there were some pros, but the
cons is I lost out on about ten.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Years of sleep.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
I think we get this list, Mike, of all the
people that are going to be here that we're going
to be interviewing, and our man Billy next there. He
got the most excited when he saw Mike go. He
really did. He was like, if was it me or
for my son?

It was you I was listening to in the mornings
I was working at when you were a kid.

Yeah, when I was a kid. Yeah, you're doing Mike

it to you. How you were like you were like seven, right?

No? No, I was like fifteen. Sixteen is my first job.

I was mowing rough at a golf course, and I'd
listened to Mike and Mike because it was an early job,
so you had to get up.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
So it's a pinch me moment to be here with you, Mike.
I appreciate that, but I want to ask you how
rewarding was it to be to do this with your
son for him to get in the industry. I mean
mean a lot to you.
Speaker 7 (25:05):
It's very Yes, Yeah, I probably would not be doing
the show every day unless it was with my son.
I'd probably doing be more more part time stuff calling
games for Westwood One, which I've been doing for a
few years. But I try not to take it for
granted that when the mic goes on, it's my kid
there and we're doing the show together.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
I would like him to respect me a little more
and bend at the knee.
Speaker 7 (25:28):
But but we disagree more than I thought he has.
Oddly enough, he has his own thoughts and he expresses
them well.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
I mean you're used to that.
Speaker 1 (25:39):
I am you and Greenberg sometimes did that as well,
and it's and I live by the same credo I
did with Greeney.
Speaker 7 (25:46):
And actually Tony Bruno was the first a co host
I had is if you disagree with something on air,
you never take it off air, Okay, And that's the
same thing with my son. We could disagree with things
on air, but there's no reason to take it off air.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
I didn't know you worked with Tony Bruno.
Speaker 7 (26:00):
Tony Bruno was actually the first one at the ESPN radio.
You should tell that guy to have an opinion now
ruggles doesn't he. I was working with him for a year.
I show it up one day and he was gone,
and I'm like, oh my god, what do I do now?
Speaker 2 (26:14):
He was just gone. He was gone, and they didn't
tell you. No. Oh, he didn't tell ESPN. Oh, he
he just left. He was gone.
Speaker 7 (26:24):
And that was in October of ninety nine. It took
three months of me working with potential new co host
before it was Greenie. Yeah, all right, so let's talk
about this football game. You got Seahawks Patriots.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
I've said that you don't see stories like Sam Darnold
in football. I wonder if Sam Darnald's story says, hey,
there's a lot of guys that could be good if
they got with the right team out of Kyle and.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
If they got a chance.
Speaker 7 (26:55):
One of the reasons he is where he is because
he was the number three pick. Overall, you're always going
to get a chance somewhere you're the number.
Speaker 2 (27:02):
If he was a fifth rounder, he'd have been done.
He'd have been out of the league.
Speaker 7 (27:06):
Went once he failed at a couple of spots, he'd
have been he'd have had to have another job. But
when you're a high pick, because that money was invested
in you, you're going to get a chance somewhere. And
to his credit, he is. He has overcome and he
is playing extremely good ball. And on the other side
of New England, there's another throwaway. I'm a Titans fan
and seeing Mike Rabel's success is killing me. How bad

did we mess up in Tennessee?
Speaker 2 (27:28):
Oh you messed up there? Yeah, I know. I'm wearing
Titan shirt right now. It hurts me.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
Just uh, Mike Rabel is my Piloton name It's Bike Rabel.
I love Mike Rabel so much. Name is Bikebel. I'm
so conflicted, all right, I'm at his happiness and my
my titan sadness because I mean, I'm I want him
to do well, but I know we we messed up back.

Yeah, yeah, there's you know, there's I know I'm a
little worried.

About it, all right. People think i'm him. Actually he's
got terrible stats on there. Yeah, a four minute rode.

I'm amazed at the lack of patience. Obviously, not like
a Pittsburgh Steelers or Baltimore with the two coaches a
law in nineteen and eighteen years. But it does amaze
me how quickly you give up and think the grass
is going to be green or somewhere else.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
Sometimes it is right.
Speaker 7 (28:14):
Sometimes guys get a head coaching job and they're not
supposed to be head coaches.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
But he clearly is a head coach with this game.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
I mean, it seems like most people just assume the
Seahawks are going to win.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
You know, the Patriots.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
I think they have a very good shot, and I
think Drake may it does not played well in the playoffs,
but it had such a great season, I could totally see.
Speaker 7 (28:36):
I think people are too quick to dismiss their chances.
I mean, he just has to hang on the ball.
Too many fumbles. He had fumbles in the regular season
as well. He runs the ball well. I called the
Denver New England game where the second half became a
muted offense because of the snow, and he basically won
it with his legs. Was very impressive with his legs
(28:57):
as far as throwing the ball. He's got obviously Stefan Diggs,
Hunter Henry, but I don't worry as much about him
as I praise the Seattle defense. The Seattle defense is stifling.
They are they but now remember this New England offense
average about twenty nine points a game during the regular season.
(29:18):
They have the ability to score, but they need a
rock fight here. They need it to be a low
scoring game and their defense needs to step up as well,
which is a very good defense. By the way, in
New England.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
They get short changed a little bit in the postseason
because New England faced some more some of the top
defenses in the postseason. We're obviously air on podcast, but
I do want you to talk for a second about
doing live radio four hours a day. In my opinion,
that's the hardest thing to do in sports to sit
there because you can't like hide, no you know what
(29:51):
I mean, You can't like throw the graphics. No, like
it is. You just have to go and if there's
nothing to talk about, you gotta talk anyway.
Speaker 7 (29:59):
Yeah, oh yeah, there are especially out of the football season,
as you guys would know, it gets a little more difficult.
June July can be a little difficult. That's when you
start to do Mount Rushmore lists.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
Yeah.

Yeah, but miss Bristol. Uh No, I don't really miss Bristol.
I miss ESPN and and and the setup there, but
I don't really miss Bristol. But uh, to your point
it it can be damning when you when you have
a guest in the guest flakes on you, or when
you have a guest know anything to say and they
have nothing to say. It's exactly right. It could get

it can, especially for four hours. You're looking there are days.
Speaker 7 (30:39):
There are many days listen, I did it for so
long where you look at your watch and you're going,
oh my god, I got three and a half.
Speaker 1 (30:45):
Is doing a show with one person four hours a day.
Is it like a marriage. Well, I mean you have
to have a connection. You have to have chemistry. And
Greeny and I had it right out right out of
the gate. We had really good chemistry.
Speaker 7 (30:58):
Yeah, there has to be that there, There has to
be It's kind of like it's kind of like in
the booth doing do a game TV or radio. You
got to kind of have chemistry with the play by
play guy.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
Uh.

And to make it more conversationalike, and not just you talk,
U talk, you talk, you talk.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
Same in radio.

It can't just be the one person talking then the
next person talk.

You have to be enough to be I did my
first play by play game this year for ESPN Radio.

I thought all you all were idiots that did it

So, I was diagnosed with type two diabetes twenty years ago.
And back then you basically ate your meal, prick your
finger with a blood test and decide to saw what
your numbers were and tried to go from there. Now
it's modern technology. Stello is a glucose bio sensor that
you put on your arm. You can get it over
the counter, you don't need a prescription for it, and

get it off Amazon, and you have an app with
it and it gives you real time numbers of how
you're doing. You know, how sleep affects your glucose levels,
how workouts to how food does. And now in a
couple of months they're coming up with a smart food logging.

You're gonna be able to.

Take a picture of your meal and it will give
you all the info on your meal, so you know
how many carbs you have, how many Sure take take
a picture and.

You'll tell you how good or bad it is.

For it'll tell you give you that that would make
me say, I know, but for I know, But it
also help you eat right, that's right now.
Speaker 7 (32:32):
So again stello is for type two diabetics, pre diabetes
and just those that are in the wellness center want
to know, I feel want to know what their numbers are.
And now you get up to the up to the
date number, you look great. I feel great.

For football players sometimes it's hard because when you get done,
you're used to all that working out.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
You can't eat the same, and I did eat.
Speaker 7 (32:52):
The same for a while, and I ballooned up to
almost three twenty.

I looked like a vanilla milkshake.
Speaker 7 (32:57):
It was horrible. And then a few years after I
was done playing, I was diagnosed with Type two and
I knew I had to change my ways my eating
and and stello and uh.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
And now he's like, walk around with your shirt off,
like you look at me. Not not yet.
Speaker 7 (33:12):
I would love to be able to walk around with
no shirt on, but I can't do that just yet.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
I don't know if I'll.
Speaker 1 (33:17):
Ever be able to do that. Billy just did it
around here. If you have next year Super Bowl sixty one,

way to start it for me. TD and the what
the QZ, the quarters it don't try to be I
will say, it was pretty funny that we don't try.

I need to know what happened with TD, Tony Dungee

Well there now, okay, so there's a couple of interactions
we need to go over. First of all, I had
too that I'll remember forever. Let's start with Let's start
with Drew and Tony Dungee.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
So Tony Dungee grabbed you buy the jacket and pulled
on you and seemed to want your attention.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
Huh.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
And I watched this happen and I thought, why does
Tony Dungee want to talk to Drew?
Speaker 2 (35:17):
And I was on an elevated surface, I was up
on the stage.
Speaker 1 (35:20):
He pulled in his jacket like a little child asking
for candy. He pulled in his jacket and was like,
and then he didn't know who you were because when.
Speaker 2 (35:30):
You turned around, the look of disappointment on his face.
Party that had to hurt.
Speaker 3 (35:35):
Yeah, Well, I was actually talking to Uh, who's that
person right there?
Speaker 2 (35:39):
He's famous, the guy with the face face right there? Yeah,
I think he's a reporter. But what's his name? He's famous?
I need to stop looking at you. Go ahead. Well,
I was, I was talking.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
I was already in a celebrity interaction with Will Compton,
and he goes, Tony Dungee wants your attention, and I
was like, Tony.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
Said that, Yeah, Tony, Tony dunt is pulling on my shirt.
Speaker 3 (36:04):
And when I turned around, Tony's face mortified, like I
do not know this human.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
Yeah, it was clear he thought you were someone else.
And then he was like, but I've been tugging on
this stranger. She committed Tony. Tony Dungeon was was shirt
committed at that point. I was like, get off me, Tony.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
What can we possibly talk about it? And then when
we made eye contact, you've seen it go.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
He's tugging Tony.
Speaker 3 (36:25):
He's never He's like, I've never seen this human ever,
and I have nothing to say to him.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
Tugging Tony will forever be noticed. The guy who tugged
on Drew hoping to get his attention.
Speaker 2 (36:34):
You know what, you probably thought I was Jeff Saturday.
I get it a lot, former player, I should know it.
He did that. You know what, that's what Jeff Saturday.
Speaker 3 (36:43):
But you're not Jeff Well no, no, not Lineman big.
But I was on an elevated surface. He thought you
were Jeff Saturday. That was exactly who he thought. He
was tugging Tony thought you were Jeff Saturday. The only
thing I can come up with, because he was definitely
wanting to have a conversation.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
Then the next thing that happened I was there for
this as well.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
We went to the restroom as people do break here
and uh, Drew Drew, I saw Derrick Henry walk to
the restaurant. So the only three people at the urinals
were me, Drew, and Derek Hiley. And I could see
on Drew's face that he wanted to talk to Derek Kinton.
(37:22):
Derrick Henry is like his Yeah, is he your favorite
player of all time?
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Nar than him? Right? And yeah, that'd probably be it.
And I knew he was in the building, so I've
been since we've walked in. I've been looking everywhere.
Speaker 3 (37:34):
I did not think we would be touching elbows at
the urinal would be the moment.
Speaker 1 (37:40):
Face him being like, I want to talk to Derrick Henry,
but I'm not sure I can with urinal things happening.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
That's the one.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
And you didn't, do you regret it? First of all,
I got to paint the scene. There were seven eight urinals,
most of them open. I still don't know why he
was directly next to me in hindsight, what made him
walk to the one? I mean, he wanted you to
talk to but there wasn't a gap urinal between us.
I mean we are basically just stating, well, jar Hendry one,
(38:09):
didn't you.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
He was hoping to have a conversation.
Speaker 3 (38:12):
I wish there had been a reaction camera on me
because at first I was like, why is this guy
up on me?
Speaker 2 (38:17):
And I kind of just glanced on my left and
it was like, oh, crimp, just one second. Who are
these two gentlemen in Bounty sweaters?
Speaker 5 (38:24):
That is I believe Almon Ros Saint Brown and Pine School.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
Yeah, why are they wearing Bounty mister Rogers sweaters?
Speaker 3 (38:32):
Because when Bounty says wear this and pay you, I'm
sure they'd wear whatever.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
So that's a mind. Saint Brown and uh pin Soool,
definitely Saint Brown. I believe it's Pine. How do you
recognize Pine Soola? Yeah? How many offensive linemen do you
recognize by face? Not a lot?
Speaker 5 (38:49):
But he's a very I mean he's he was taking
I mean they took Jamar Chase and ahead of him.
Speaker 2 (38:53):
So it was like a big thing, wasn't it? And
they're Bounty wing man.
Speaker 1 (38:56):
By the way, Bounty is the biggest sponsor here. The
Bounty is the number one sponsor. I didn't know toilet
paper had this level of sponsorship, but they do. For
bounty by the way.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
I thought the NFL and Bounties were past that, but
they're brought him back, cleaning up their image.

Stop all right, So back to back to the urinal.
Speaker 3 (39:15):
Yeah, I mean it was really a moment where I'm like,
why is this guy up on me? This is an
empty bathroom, and his like elbow is hitting my elbow, and.
Speaker 2 (39:22):
You know, I kind of just looked to my left,
not down at.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
An angle, up at an angle, I'd say, oh my god,
this is Derrick Henry, and just straight downstair at the wall.
Speaker 2 (39:32):
Don't move. I cannot have a conversation in that moment,
you understand. I think I think this was the chance.
Speaker 1 (39:37):
It would have been weird, But I think it's sad
that this is like your favorite player.
Speaker 2 (39:41):
And you did not speak to him when you had
a chance.
Speaker 1 (39:44):
But granted it would have been weird, it is weird
to have conversations in that come.
Speaker 3 (39:48):
This is a gigantic convention center. There's about five feet
of area where I cannot speak to Derrick Henry, and
that's where we met. I can't change that. You could
talk to him anywhere except the urinal. I just stared
at the brick wall. Wondering what life your point, that's
a really good point. That's probably the only place you
can't talk to him.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
But this has been U lots of celebrity interaction. Who
do you think has been the most random person you've
run into here?
Speaker 2 (40:15):
You know?
Speaker 3 (40:15):
I like seeing the because it's mostly athletes. I'm not
used to it yet because I'm still wide out looking around.
But I like seeing some of the celebrities that I
didn't expect, like the Workaholics crew that's across from us.
So not that I'm not enjoying the athletes, but the
random celebrities that I didn't expect to run into.
Speaker 2 (40:29):
It's been neat seeing them.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
I also enjoy, and I'm not gonna mention them. I
enjoy Billy the people that are walking around hoping someone
will ask them to come for an interview and then
and people don't. I get a little bit of I
find that interesting as well.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
Like you feel bad for them.
Speaker 1 (40:48):
I mean I don't feel bad, it's just like I
don't know. There are levels of media, so we're on
the outside. This is like the national media, then there's
local media. I feel like a lot of them should
go in there because there are some people here. There
are people from all over the country. There's like radio stations.
I'm amazed how many people make the trip and.
Speaker 2 (41:07):
Come out here.
Speaker 3 (41:07):
Well, that sets up another story. We have to tell
your board Bill over here. Oh yeah, Bill went and
met the Bucks guy, well.
Speaker 2 (41:13):
One of them.
Speaker 5 (41:15):
My hometown station w DAE is here, and so I
went and said, Hi, did you go ask for a job?
I did not, because even better though, So I was like, yeah,
let's exchange contact big fan, you know whatever. And he
pulled out his own digital card.
Speaker 1 (41:30):
For people who are cover zero listeners. Only you don't
know that Billy has decided to be create a digital
business card for this trip because I think he's trying
to get other jobs.
Speaker 2 (41:43):
And he gave you a digital business No, we both
had one. He reverse who knowed you with your with your.
Speaker 5 (41:48):
Visits, had his own, and I mean he works for
iHeart and he was like, yeah, I heeart's just been
everybody has to have their own digital business card. I
was like, that is not my Heart requires that, That's
what he was saying.
Speaker 3 (41:57):
Well, they never going up to somebody since Sanna's QR code,
there's so many creepy.
Speaker 2 (42:01):
Things that could be done with that. So did you
all share in fun? We did? Yes, I thought you
said it didn't work. It didn't work. I had to
go back over there. You went back. I went back.
Speaker 5 (42:10):
You went back for a second, like dude, it didn't work,
which is funny because they've been dogging me.
Speaker 2 (42:15):
You went back for a second, scand yeah, and this
time it worked. It worked. This stuff, well, good for you, Billy.

So we're gonna, you know, go meet some more people
after this. I mean, I don't who knows who we're
going to see.

I'm starting to see a lot of media faces that
I know, but I can't put a name.

I'm staring at that game now, this one with the
glasses in the in the I mean the see, yeah,

And done his own and it's uh Andrew and a
