(06:27):
I am doing great. Happy tobe back in the land of the Living.
Back on Tennessee soil. I've beenout of town a class all week.
So yeah, so I'm happy tobe here. Good, good,
go. It was a great week. Your weekend was good. My weekend
was great. I got a chanceto see dolphins that was swimming in the
ocean. So last week I hadclass all week, and to better serve

(06:48):
you, I'm in class usually aboutonce a week every month. AnyWho.
But then on the weekend I wasable to have a good time. So
my son was there and we wentto see what we went, well,
wanted and dolphin watching and I sawthe tip of a big blue whale,
like just a tip, but theysaid that that counts. So big blue

(07:09):
whales are eighty feet long and bigger, and I got to see the tip
of one. They said that thatcounts, so I'm gonna take it.
So it was great. So whatdid you do this weekend? Did you
see any welles, any dolphins?Did you get any Memphis barbecue? But
I'll tell you what I saw.Lions and tigers and bears. Oh my
lions. Okay, so it wasa nature weekend. What did you how

(07:30):
did you see something? Lions andtigers and bears, And let me say
congratulations. My great nephew, DarrenDewan Gray got married on Saturday at the
Memphis Zoo. I got married abeautiful missus, Chelsea. So mister and
missus Darien Gray, Darien and ChelseaGray. They got married on on Saturday

(07:55):
at the zoo. Simply fabulous.Oh it was beautiful, you know what,
y'all? Well, I had notbeen to the zoo. It has
changed. I've seen a lot ofpeople have been there. Yeah, it's
very nice. I think the lastsome couple of years ago that I think
Doctor Field had a big event there. But they've expanded and it's simply beautiful

(08:20):
at the zoo. If if ifyou haven't, Attorney Monika been there or
been, but it's a great outing, not just for adults but for grown
folks. But I had a beautifulceremony and this was were back in the
part of the zoo, and thelittle train took us back there, and
you had to ride the train upback there, and they got married outside

(08:45):
and then it's at the lodge, and so the reception and the cocktail ho
and all that was in the lodge. Simply beautiful. It was simply a
beautiful wedding and and and and mygod brother Flores William Harris, who just
beautiful flowers because he deals with livehe doesn't deal with artist. But it

(09:05):
was a beautiful wedding. We hada good time. And I said,
what were their colors? She hadlike a I have to show y'all a
silver kind of peach andoo. Butit was it was simply it was simply
beat its to them. And Iwas thinking. I was telling what I

(09:26):
was in there, and I said, I want to go back up because
of the lodge. They have abalcony upstairs outside. I said, I'm
going out there. He said, you know the big bears over there.
I said, so there are lions, tigers and bears. Oh yeah,
And I was thinking of Attorney Ursulaand tournament Nika. I said, that'd
be a great place for me tohave a party. Oh yeah, we

(09:48):
will be there. It's very nice. We will be there. It's a
very nice venue to have some kindof celebration or a party. It's it's
really nice. The zoo has outdoneitself. Yeah, wow, to check
that out. Yeah, gorgeous.Well, congrat's what That's what I did
over the weekend. Yeah, thatwas Saturday. Yeah, yeah, all

(10:09):
right, well today and well Ihave to ask, okay ready for that
famous five. Well, we haveto remember this month is our men's month
for many of us who have father'sgrandfathers and our stealth and uncles, our
bonus dads. Then we would liketo honor you and celebrate you on this

(10:31):
particular weekend or shall I say thisentire month. But with that said,
I really want to talk to mymen out there right now, my fellas
you know, and I want totalk to the ladies that support the men
and the significant others that support themen. Here's what I want to share.
We have to listen to our brothers. We have to listen to them

(10:52):
when our brothers and for those ofyou all don't know, this is what
we call my soul box. Isjust my opportunity to share my personal opinion.
And so we all have men inour lives, and those men are
strong and sometimes they're Superman, butthen sometimes they're more Clark Kent than they
are Superman. We gotta love both. We gotta love both. We have
to love our brothers and their otherness. Right, they come to us and

(11:13):
they're big, they're strong, they'rewise, that they're getting it all done.
But that comes at a price, you understand, and especially if you're
a black man. Our brothers arenot told that they're the greatest, are
told that they're the worst. Ourbrothers are not told that they've done a
great job. They told they're toldin the ways in which it's spoken and
unspoken, that they're below average. So then when your brother comes home to

(11:35):
you, then what are you tellingyour brother? Because see that's what needs
to be going through his head duringthe day when he's told he's the opposite
of what he know he is,and then you wonder why he responds the
way he responds. So I justwant to say to everybody that has a
brother in their life, show theman extra love today. Make sure that
you're patient with them. And whenthat brother tells you that he's tired,

(11:56):
believe him, trust that he's tired. It is not easy being a man.
I know we joke and we saythis and we say that, but
it's really not and we're not thatwe have as women, we have a
certain level of support system with ourgirlfriends, our mothers, our siblings that
support us and love us. We'regonna talk, We'll get online and just

(12:16):
simply have a conversation if we haveto, our brothers don't. Traditionally,
we're only speaking generally. We're talkinggeneralizations. I know it's a lot of
brothers that's out there that don't,but I'm just talking generally. And what
that means, what that says isa lot of times when they open their
mouth, this is the first timethey're expressing that thought. What are you
giving them back? Oh, youneed to be stronger than it. I
can't believe you crying about this.Oh no, no, you're the soft

(12:39):
place where this brother needs to land. You may be the only person that
he's even talking to. So youneed to be conscious about that and give
space for that. And so whensomeone tells you something that's intimate about who
they are you protecting. You coverthat. You don't expose it, laugh
about it, or share it withthe next friend. That is his truth.
And so then when he tells youthat he's tired, you want to
unor that. Because suicide amongst ourmen is highest, homelessness is the highest

(13:05):
amongst our brothers, it is thehighest drug use addiction. There's a reason.
So I just want to be say, let's be a resource for our
brothers. Now, ladies, don'tget out there. What about us?
We need love, we need support. All right, we did that Mother's
Day right now we're in Father's Day. So let's love and support our brothers.
And then, last but not least, make sure that you send the

(13:26):
flowers to their brothers. To thebrothers while they're alive, send them a
positive word, whether they're a fatheror not. This could just be the
Men's Love Month, in which youshare love with the men in your life
that you love. They don't haveto be your dad, It doesn't have
to be your brother, it doesn'thave to be your grandfather. It's nothing
to just simply send and encouraging wordto say, brother, I see you

(13:46):
doing a great job. Keep going. You know the guy at work who's
always willing to pick up the trashto somebody else. Drop tell that brother,
thank you for that. If you'reat the as, if you're a
CVS or something, pick up hisfavorite candy you always see him eating.
Why not I grab my bag andem and able to just say, Mike
this for you. Thanks for alwaystaking care of me and bringing me water
when you get water, you know, and then that's it. That's my

(14:09):
soapbox. I love it. That'sso for this month it is Men's Month,
Men's Health Month, Father's Day.Oh yeah, I like this absolutely.
The brotherhood is real. We haveattorney Jonathan that is leading the show
today. Yeah. Yes, morningsister, Good morning, sister. It
is so good to see you,to see you as well. I'm happy

(14:31):
to be in the land of theliving. And I used to listen to
our elder say that. Yeah,I feel that today, Bell. I
am happy to be in the landof the living. Yes, ma'am.
Yes, and doing well. Soit's good to see you. Good to
see you. You've been working hard, yes, ma'am. That's okay,
Yes, ma'am. That's a blessing. It is a blessing. It's a
blessing. So I'm happy, allright. I did want to come today

(14:54):
to share a little bit about travel. This is a travel season for us
now, yes, and I thinkthat you know, people forget that when
you travel, there is an inherentrisk associated with travel. It is the
reason that the president and the vicepresident are not on an airplane at the

(15:16):
same time, right, because there'san inherent risk and often more often than
not, during this travel season,we will make plans to travel, but
we don't make plans for making surethat we're secure and our legacy is secure
and our children are safe. AndI just want to come today to remind

(15:37):
everyone who's traveling, whether that isa student who is traveling abroad, whether
that is a new retiree who's goingon their first cruise and they're excited about
it, or whether it's you know, you're just you've just decided that,
you know, you want to volunteerat an orphanage in Guatemala, and you're

(16:00):
traveling to give to serve. Regardlessto the reason, there are documents,
legal documents that should always be inplace whenever you're traveling. And I know
it's something that we don't often thinkabout, you know, and all the
fun of let's travel, you know, and we're gonna go to the beach,
and that's great. But after youhave your passport and all of your

(16:23):
legal documents and your identification, thenext thing, and even the State Department
talks about this, the next thingyou need to make sure that you have
in place are those necessary estate planningdocuments that are going to protect your family.
For instance, if you are travelingand you decided that you're gonna leave

(16:45):
your children at grandma's house and wedo that. You know that's a special
thing. Grandmother does not have anylegal authority over those children while you're in
Paris, other than you've just droppedthem off. If you if you're child
is sick, if the grandparents needto make some decisions concerning you know,

(17:06):
their health care, you know,or anything there, you should leave them
with that level of authority where theycan make decisions on behalf of your child.
You know, that is something thatyou don't anticipate that there's something you
know that you know your child mayget ill, But what if your child

(17:26):
does get ill? And I wouldtell you, Beb, that has actually
happened to me on vacation. Wow. You know, my youngest daughter is
asthmadic and I was actually out ofthe country receiving telephone calls from my mother
trying to get to the er thehospital. My vacation is completely thwarted because
now I'm on the phone trying togive permission for treatment because I didn't leave

(17:49):
the necessary documents for her to beable to handle what she needed to handle.
That's just one example, BEB.I have plenty that I would love
to talk to you and you knowwhat, attorney, Monika, I never
thought about that because you and I'msure a lot of other people, because
when you're leaving your children with yourmother or you know, the grandmother's what

(18:11):
you just think, Okay, they'regood, they're with my mother and they
are good. Yeah, unless youknow, something happens. You know,
when we're out swimming and we've hadan incident like this before where there was
a near drowning and the parent wasn'taround, you know, you know,
you need to have the authority tobe able to act quickly. You know,

(18:33):
more often than not, you mightleave the insurance card, okay,
mommy, if anything happens, here'sthe baby's insurance card. But you also
need to leave mom some authority, okay, to take care of business.
And how do we how do weleave mom authority? What documents? One
of the documents that we prepare inour travel package, and depending on what
the travel is, is a powerof attorney for child for a minor child.

(19:00):
You know you also, can Iask a question, can you explain?
Yes, and I know we're speakingin terms of a child, but
can you explain what is a powerof attorney. When can it be used
and when is it stop being valid? Because this is whether it's an adult
or child. I hate when shetells you when it stops being valid.

(19:21):
I know we're talking about your kid, but just contextualize that. Can you
tell us when to use a powerattorney? When we got to stop?
And what is a power return?Okay, So in this situation, we're
specifically talking about a power of attorneyfor the care and custody of your minor
child for a limited purpose while youare traveling or while that child or you

(19:42):
have sent the child to be withthe grandmother in another state. So generally
speaking, those are very specific powersof attorney and they're generally for a limited
period of time. A power ofattorney is a legal document in which an
individual who is over the age ofeighteen and in their sound mind, will

(20:07):
give another individual authority to act intheir stead. They will give them authority
to be their agent in certain circumstances. And in this circumstance in particular,
we're talking about for the care andcustody of your child. Now, when
we're talking about childcare, there arecertain things a power of attorney can do,

(20:32):
and there are certain things that apower of attorney cannot do with regard
to a child. You can grantpower of attorney for your mother or that
individual to act, you know, for health care purposes. All right.
So if I have a child, and my child Jeffrey and so, well,

(20:52):
Preston, let's say, Preston,so I'm going out of town to
you know, Europe for a month. Yes, and I want to leave
that child with my grandmother. Yes, and so I would the I,
as a mother, would then giveauthority to the grandmother for thirty days to
be able to have a financial andhelp make health decisions for the next thirty

(21:14):
days. And it's specific to thosedates, and that specific to those dates
and specific to the care and custodyof the child, including education matters.
Some things you cannot do with thispower of attorney that you need to know.
You cannot consent to an adoption.Oh yeah, you know what I
mean? Please please? You cana marriage or an adoption O good,

(21:45):
Okay, you can't consent to anabortion for them. Okay. That's something
you need to know, like, that's that's something that the power of attorney
cannot give you authority to do,and you need to know that the power
of attorney, and still we're talkingabout over your child will not and cannot
terminate your parental rights. Okay, okay, it cannot and will not terminate

(22:07):
your parental rights. And so that'sa very specific power of attorney for that
purpose. But then bev, wehave other situations where you know the family
is traveling with a minor child, and maybe you know you have one parent
that's traveling and the other parent that'snot traveling, right, right, there's
a such thing called making sure thatyou have those necessary documents to show that

(22:33):
you have the authority to travel withthat child alone, right because there are
child debduction laws now, and dependingon what country you're going into, they're
going to want to see either yourdivorce papers that say you have sole care
and custody of the child and withthat authority to travel, or they're gonna

(22:55):
want to see a consent form fromthat other parent. And so whenever you're
traveling with a child and you're travelingalone, think about those documents that prove
that you have the ability to travelwith this child alone. And having said
that, there's one other child issueI'd like to bring up, and that

(23:15):
is when you're traveling with someone else'schildren. You know we do that.
You know your daughter's best friend isgoing on vacation with the family, because
that's your daughter's best friend, andthat's like, you know, a member
of your family. However, youneed to get that power of attorney and

(23:36):
document from the actual parents along withthat consent form giving you the authority to
travel with that child, right AndI think that that's really critical for those
that are going on summer vacations andin the time in which we live in
because as a personal injury attorney,I see all types of lawsuits due to

(23:57):
negligence or mishandling and things like that. And if you are more not Mormon,
apologize is it's the religion in whichyou cannot get blood transfusions Jehovah witness.
So and if you're Jehovah's witness,we just studied a case last week
where a doctor completely butchered that entireprocess. Because even though and I'm just

(24:19):
speaking generally, I'm not gonna lieI'm not a Jehovah's witness, but I
apologize if I'm misstating anything. Butthey don't adhere to blood transfusions. However,
there are medical steps that are inplace to preserve their own blood to
be able to preserve the different bioengineered in bioengineering of our blood to help

(24:44):
them. And if you do notfollow that, it can be critical to
their life or death. And soif you not that your child has these
type of religious restrictions on what theycan and cannot do, that's even more
the reason why you need to makesure that you have the travel plans in
place, because the last thing youwant one is for your child to have
a blood transfusion. And I havethe proper steps in place, knowing good
and well what needs to happen nextgood information, We're off, ladies,
