absolutely want to continue this and expand on it where

Okay, good, I like that. Well, Regina, we have May's
wallet warning, we.

Do, and it is it is fake Tennessee Department of
Safety text scam. What now, y'all know we've talked in
the past about the tax scams you get about tickets
you may not have paid, or tolls. It was tolls
when it's told, well, this is about tickets and licensing
and some stuff.
Speaker 5 (03:46):
So here we go.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
This month, we're focused on something that experienced a surge
of reports, according to our partners at a Better Business
Bureau And no sooner did we write this up than
I got one myself, So I know it's experienced.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
A surge of reports.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
So this, this scam is fake text messages from the
Tennessee Department of Safety. The Better Business Bureaus received nearly
thirty reports so far this year in Shelby County alone,
most within the last six weeks with a high volume
of calls, and folks have lost thousands of dollars. So
(04:22):
let me tell you how this goes. The text will
look official and they use real agency names. You know,
in the past we've had fake agency names because they
know how Tennessee worked. But these use real agency names
and they threaten serious consequences if you don't act fast.
But they're completely fake. So what the text claims and
(04:45):
who it is reportedly from? Okay, the message claims to
be from the Tennessee Department of Safety, Homeland Security or
safety in which is safe? Tennessee says you have an
unpaid traffic teach or a violation, and it often includes
the words final notice with a short deadline to create urgency.
(05:07):
People do strange things when you feel compressed and threatened,
and some of you'se telling you something's urgent. So we
want to keep you calm, yeah, and say number one,
Tennessee agencies do not send text demanding payment or threatening
license suspension. If you are getting a text from a
Tennessee agency saying these things, it is fake. Fake Delete
(05:31):
block don't go back there, and for goodness sake, don't respond.
So real agency names are used to make the message
feel legit, and the same scam is showing up across
the country using different state names. So what are the
biggest red flags? Okay, the biggest red flags if it
(05:52):
threatens license suspension, registration or suspension of your car registration
or even legal action. All of those things make you
think it's urgent and they're trying to get you to
do something you shouldn't do. Some versions say your case
will be sent to collections or impact your credit. The
(06:13):
link looks official but does not lead to a real
TN dot gov website. Don't test that, don't click on
that link, don't click on that link. But if it's
a real TN dot gov message, which is not going
to be if it's a text, the only website for Tennessee,
for Tennessee government is TN dot gov. Okay, So some
(06:37):
messages tell you to reply, why to activate the link?
This is a major red flag. Never reply, Never reply, why,
never click on the links? Hit deep delete block scam.
And many of these texts come from random or even
international phone numbers. So this is the first big red flag.
(06:59):
You see this text, come in and up on the
number at the top. It doesn't say one nine oh one,
one eight hundred, it says sixty three something something something.
Sixty three is the Philippine jaw. Oh, they don't know
if you owe a ticket in Tennessee. Yeah, right exactly,
And so for goodness sake, don't fall for this number one.
(07:22):
If you know you don't owe a ticket, don't even
think about it.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
Just delete it.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
If you think you might owe a ticket, go to
therealt n dot gov website and check it out. But
this would be a state trooper ticket, not a local one. Okay,
so don't click on the link. What you should do,
don't what should not do? Don't click on the link
or reply to the message. Delete it immediately and block it.
(07:47):
Report it to the Better Business Bureau scam Tracker if
you get a chance, so we know what's going on
and we can help you know other people on what's
going on. This is how we get these reports, as
we call it, better What's Hot this month? Better Business Bureau.
If you're concerned, go to Tennessee dot gov and contact
the agency yourself and they can tell you yes or no.

But if it's a text. It's not real, Okay, it
is not real. If there's a.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
Real issue, the state will contact you. Will not contact
you through a sketchy text. It will use official channels
like the post office. So there's the main deal is
if it's a text, it's not coming from Tennessee dot
gov to threaten you. They're not gonna threaten you, right,
(08:36):
They're gonna send you. Maybe you got caught on a
red light camera or some speed camera on the state
highway and the trooper's gonna send you a ticket and
they'll send it to you in the mail.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
But because there are those speed yeah traps out there,
I shouldn't call them speed trucks. There are those speed
cameras that help people from going too fast.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
That's right, that's right, okay.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
And but this is one that's going around, has been
going around about six weeks, and so please don't fall
for it.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
Please don't fall So it is the fake Tennessee Department
of Safety scam.

Yep, it is the text scams.

So they're gonna text it to you. Yep.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
This will come by text.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
We'll come, I'm told and so you can see the number.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
So first matter of business what's a number up there
instead of a one in front of the number, it's
got some other thing that's a country code. And uh,
the state of Tennessee. Number one is not gonna text
you about stuff like this. Number two ain't gonna do
it from the Philippines.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
Okay, So that you see that sixty three, just make
that one go away.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
I like that, all right, So we know what to
do the Tennessee for every week, every every month, REGI.
That's why I love and my listeners have said, that's
why they love Joseph her coming in because she tells
us about these scams.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
They're ongoing. They're coming up with new scams every month,
every week. It's just amazing, folks. So just I guess
they're fully employed doing scams. That's that's what they do.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
And we do occasionally because we'll do one for the
month what's hot. We'll talk to the better Business per
on what's hot and what word do we need to
tell people, and so we'll do one. We'll go to
you and the Commercial Pill and all these places. And
sometimes in between all that, there's something new that comes
out that people need to know about right away. And
even the government sending this out and so that'll show
(10:37):
up on our Facebook page. So, by all means, if
there's something new last month that was please reboot your router.
There's fake stuff coming and this came from the Department
of Homeland Security for everybody to reboot the router. So
if there's kind of an urgent little one in between,
you'll see it on our Facebook page. And so by
all means, don't miss that. But all our whilet warnings

news today, Okay, you know I always like the good news,
and mister Lee is the trustee elect, is going to
do the good news.

All right, trust well, Well, the first part of this
is that Google has agreed to a one hundred and
thirty five million dollar class action settlement, and this is
to resolve claims that it used Android devices to transfer
information to Google without user permission. Uh, and so they
(11:54):
were using those users' devices without their permission and consuming
the cellular data from those individuals. So this class action
SELM benefits to consumers who have used mobile devices running
the Android operating systems to access the Internet through cellular
(12:15):
data network since November twelve, twenty seventeen. Wow, so it
goes back a number of years there. According to the
class action lawsuit, Google's Android operating system caused devices to
transfer information to Google without the user's permission, and so
(12:36):
these transfers allegedly took place in the background even when
devices were idle and not in use. So that's pretty
much amazing getting information from those devices. The plaintiffs in
the case say that Google could have made these transfers
happen only when devices were connected to Wi Fi, but
(12:59):
instead chose to use the cellular data. This is authorized
use of the cellular data allegedly violated the law and
required Google to compensate the users for the cellular data
used for its own benefit. And Google has not admitted
(13:19):
catched this has not admitted any wrongdoing, ok, but agreed
to the one hundred and thirty five No wrong doing yet, right,
but they want to resolve these allegations and therefore agreed
to one hundred and thirty five million class action settlement.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
Already, and so there are obviously a lot of people
involved with It's like anybody who had an Android phone
twenty seventeen. Now you don't have to make a claim.
They know who you are, so that the final hearings
on this settlement are going to go through. And then
(13:57):
if you're entitled something, they will contact you. Okay, obviously
they have your phone number, and so yeah, it is
kind of you know, these things are fast and furious
and still coming. But apparently it takes the government or
a whole bunch of people with some lawyers to assue
(14:17):
to get your money back. And because this is I
think this one affected one hundred million people or something,
lots of people, so there's big money involved, one hundred
and thirty five million dollars. But it is just an
amazing kind of you know, if nobody was working on this,
(14:40):
they would have just done it and moved forward and
burned your data that you paid for, and they could
have done it on Wi Fi, but they didn't, and
so they're collecting data on your dom is the allegation
that they're not admitting to.

But that's some good news.

That some good news for everybody has an android phone.

He called out to us and said, hey, come back here.
And I went back there and say, that's David. I

know David from Christian Brother's University. And so David said
I would love to have one of those signs, and
we had some in the car.

Okay, wow, and actually bad. What happened was that I
was actually just got finished cutting my yard and was
just sitting on the porch listening to the jazz and say, well,
Joe Joseph was not driving that day. If he was driving,
I had his poor wife driving that car. If he
was driving that day, I was not here, recognized that

was I was that brother, That's right.

Yeah, I was on the passion side.

That's right, he was on the passenger side. But again,
I want to congratulate you, man. I think we got
a good man there. You're you're following a good lady. Yeah,
there that that gave him, giving us some great information.
And I want to say in closing, are important it
is for us to exercise our franchise. It's always been
my honor to vote, period And when I know somebody

is a good person to put in that position, it
gives me a little bit more happiness to know what
my ancestors sacrifice. And I want to announce too, Sister
Bell an announcement myself. The federal courts have overturned for
now the decision of Alabama and redistricting, so we're gonna

pray that they do that again. Yes, ma'am, Yes, ma'am

thing a follow up on what he said. I spent
the week at the special session where they redistricted the
city of Memphis, and it was not fun. It was
not fun. It was horrendous. And uh, some of those
Republicans felt so good about it that they wouldn't look

up from the floor on the way out of their
meetings at any of us. So it is vital at
this point that if you are not registered to vote,
you go get registered for August and November. If you
are not voting in the past, even though you are
registered that you go vote in August and November. And
(20:57):
I mean, there's elections in Memphis almost every year and
we're getting ten and twelve percent fourteen percent turnout. It's horrendous.
And the only way we change it is let's get
that up to eighty five.

Okay, yeah, yeah, we need it.

Everybody who's elgible needs to be voting. It means something.
We have races that just happened in May. Joseph's was
not one of them. He won substantially, but several of
them were under one hundred votes difference. There was one
under forty I believe it was forty and is a

school board race, and they recounted and it got even
closer to under forty people. You and your family can
go swing these races here and so so by all
means take David's advice.

I want to say before they get out of here,
our trustee elect, Joseph will the office still be running
like it's because I think Regina has done a fabulous
job job in that office.

It's my intent that the officer will continue to thrive.
We'll continue to service all of the citizens of Shelby County.
We don't expect to lose a beat. In fact, our
charge is going to be improve and the shopping the
saw as we go forward. So that's what the intent
will be. Regina will be assisting me and our office

as we go forward, at least over the next six
months or so. Yeah, and I think that's going to
be a good testimon not only again that I value Regina.
I really appreciated serving with Regina. So it's going to
be a pleasure as we go forward as well. Not
a bunch of I didn't run on disrupting. What I
(22:55):
ran on experience, trust, and commitment that encapsulated the fact
that I am a member of the team. We've developed
our team. We've had some great cornerstone benchmarks that we've achieved,
even under Regina, having the highest collection rate, for example,
ninety seven point sixty four percent, the highest collection rate
(23:18):
ever in the Office of Trustee. Continue to serve seniors
and veterans with tax relief. Regina actually wrote the ordinance
on the County Commission Tax Relief Matching Program that not
only allows those qualified citizens to receive the state benefit,
but also a matching benefit from Shelby County. So those
(23:40):
are just a few of the things, but it's a
laundry list of accomplishments that we can be proud of
in Shelby County. So we want to continue to move
those forward. Absolutely good, good.

I said, Regina, we say this, Regina's a badass, She's tough.

in doing the wallet warning. Yes, mate, we're not gonna
stop that all.

the citizens and for the Shelby County and so we
absolutely want to continue this and expand on it where
we can.

Okay, good, I like that. Well, Regina, we have May's
wallet warning, we.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Do, and it is it is fake Tennessee Department of
Safety text scam. What now, y'all know we've talked in
the past about the tax scams you get about tickets
you may not have paid, or tolls. It was tolls
when it's told, well, this is about tickets and licensing
and some stuff.
Speaker 5 (03:46):
So here we go.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
This month, we're focused on something that experienced a surge
of reports, according to our partners at a Better Business
Bureau And no sooner did we write this up than
I got one myself, So I know it's experienced.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
A surge of reports.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
So this, this scam is fake text messages from the
Tennessee Department of Safety. The Better Business Bureaus received nearly
thirty reports so far this year in Shelby County alone,
most within the last six weeks with a high volume
of calls, and folks have lost thousands of dollars. So
(04:22):
let me tell you how this goes. The text will
look official and they use real agency names. You know,
in the past we've had fake agency names because they
know how Tennessee worked. But these use real agency names
and they threaten serious consequences if you don't act fast.
But they're completely fake. So what the text claims and
(04:45):
who it is reportedly from? Okay, the message claims to
be from the Tennessee Department of Safety, Homeland Security or
safety in which is safe? Tennessee says you have an
unpaid traffic teach or a violation, and it often includes
the words final notice with a short deadline to create urgency.
(05:07):
People do strange things when you feel compressed and threatened,
and some of you'se telling you something's urgent. So we
want to keep you calm, yeah, and say number one,
Tennessee agencies do not send text demanding payment or threatening
license suspension. If you are getting a text from a
Tennessee agency saying these things, it is fake. Fake Delete
(05:31):
block don't go back there, and for goodness sake, don't respond.
So real agency names are used to make the message
feel legit, and the same scam is showing up across
the country using different state names. So what are the
biggest red flags? Okay, the biggest red flags if it
(05:52):
threatens license suspension, registration or suspension of your car registration
or even legal action. All of those things make you
think it's urgent and they're trying to get you to
do something you shouldn't do. Some versions say your case
will be sent to collections or impact your credit. The
(06:13):
link looks official but does not lead to a real
TN dot gov website. Don't test that, don't click on
that link, don't click on that link. But if it's
a real TN dot gov message, which is not going
to be if it's a text, the only website for Tennessee,
for Tennessee government is TN dot gov. Okay, So some
(06:37):
messages tell you to reply, why to activate the link?
This is a major red flag. Never reply, Never reply, why,
never click on the links? Hit deep delete block scam.
And many of these texts come from random or even
international phone numbers. So this is the first big red flag.
(06:59):
You see this text, come in and up on the
number at the top. It doesn't say one nine oh one,
one eight hundred, it says sixty three something something something.
Sixty three is the Philippine jaw. Oh, they don't know
if you owe a ticket in Tennessee. Yeah, right exactly,
And so for goodness sake, don't fall for this number one.
(07:22):
If you know you don't owe a ticket, don't even
think about it.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
Just delete it.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
If you think you might owe a ticket, go to
therealt n dot gov website and check it out. But
this would be a state trooper ticket, not a local one. Okay,
so don't click on the link. What you should do,
don't what should not do? Don't click on the link
or reply to the message. Delete it immediately and block it.
(07:47):
Report it to the Better Business Bureau scam Tracker if
you get a chance, so we know what's going on
and we can help you know other people on what's
going on. This is how we get these reports, as
we call it, better What's Hot this month? Better Business Bureau.
If you're concerned, go to Tennessee dot gov and contact
the agency yourself and they can tell you yes or no.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
But if it's a text. It's not real, Okay, it
is not real. If there's a.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
Real issue, the state will contact you. Will not contact
you through a sketchy text. It will use official channels
like the post office. So there's the main deal is
if it's a text, it's not coming from Tennessee dot
gov to threaten you. They're not gonna threaten you, right,
(08:36):
They're gonna send you. Maybe you got caught on a
red light camera or some speed camera on the state
highway and the trooper's gonna send you a ticket and
they'll send it to you in the mail.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
But because there are those speed yeah traps out there,
I shouldn't call them speed trucks. There are those speed
cameras that help people from going too fast.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
That's right, that's right, okay.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
And but this is one that's going around, has been
going around about six weeks, and so please don't fall
for it.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
Please don't fall So it is the fake Tennessee Department
of Safety scam.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Yep, it is the text scams.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
So they're gonna text it to you. Yep.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
This will come by text.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
We'll come, I'm told and so you can see the number.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
So first matter of business what's a number up there
instead of a one in front of the number, it's
got some other thing that's a country code. And uh,
the state of Tennessee. Number one is not gonna text
you about stuff like this. Number two ain't gonna do
it from the Philippines.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
Okay, So that you see that sixty three, just make
that one go away.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
I like that, all right, So we know what to
do the Tennessee for every week, every every month, REGI.
That's why I love and my listeners have said, that's
why they love Joseph her coming in because she tells
us about these scams.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
They're ongoing. They're coming up with new scams every month,
every week. It's just amazing, folks. So just I guess
they're fully employed doing scams. That's that's what they do.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
And we do occasionally because we'll do one for the
month what's hot. We'll talk to the better Business per
on what's hot and what word do we need to
tell people, and so we'll do one. We'll go to
you and the Commercial Pill and all these places. And
sometimes in between all that, there's something new that comes
out that people need to know about right away. And
even the government sending this out and so that'll show
(10:37):
up on our Facebook page. So, by all means, if
there's something new last month that was please reboot your router.
There's fake stuff coming and this came from the Department
of Homeland Security for everybody to reboot the router. So
if there's kind of an urgent little one in between,
you'll see it on our Facebook page. And so by
all means, don't miss that. But all our whilet warnings

news today, Okay, you know I always like the good news,
and mister Lee is the trustee elect, is going to
do the good news.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
All right, trust well, Well, the first part of this
is that Google has agreed to a one hundred and
thirty five million dollar class action settlement, and this is
to resolve claims that it used Android devices to transfer
information to Google without user permission. Uh, and so they
(11:54):
were using those users' devices without their permission and consuming
the cellular data from those individuals. So this class action
SELM benefits to consumers who have used mobile devices running
the Android operating systems to access the Internet through cellular
(12:15):
data network since November twelve, twenty seventeen. Wow, so it
goes back a number of years there. According to the
class action lawsuit, Google's Android operating system caused devices to
transfer information to Google without the user's permission, and so
(12:36):
these transfers allegedly took place in the background even when
devices were idle and not in use. So that's pretty
much amazing getting information from those devices. The plaintiffs in
the case say that Google could have made these transfers
happen only when devices were connected to Wi Fi, but
(12:59):
instead chose to use the cellular data. This is authorized
use of the cellular data allegedly violated the law and
required Google to compensate the users for the cellular data
used for its own benefit. And Google has not admitted
(13:19):
catched this has not admitted any wrongdoing, ok, but agreed
to the one hundred and thirty five No wrong doing yet, right,
but they want to resolve these allegations and therefore agreed
to one hundred and thirty five million class action settlement.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
Already, and so there are obviously a lot of people
involved with It's like anybody who had an Android phone
twenty seventeen. Now you don't have to make a claim.
They know who you are, so that the final hearings
on this settlement are going to go through. And then
(13:57):
if you're entitled something, they will contact you. Okay, obviously
they have your phone number, and so yeah, it is
kind of you know, these things are fast and furious
and still coming. But apparently it takes the government or
a whole bunch of people with some lawyers to assue
(14:17):
to get your money back. And because this is I
think this one affected one hundred million people or something,
lots of people, so there's big money involved, one hundred
and thirty five million dollars. But it is just an
amazing kind of you know, if nobody was working on this,
(14:40):
they would have just done it and moved forward and
burned your data that you paid for, and they could
have done it on Wi Fi, but they didn't, and
so they're collecting data on your dom is the allegation
that they're not admitting to.

But that's some good news.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
That some good news for everybody has an android phone.
I know my husband's real.

and we were riding down the street where Douglas Commuter Center.
As riding down and David called out to us and said,
because we had the signs on the car Lee for Trustee.
He called out to us and said, hey, come back here.
And I went back there and say, that's David. I

know David from Christian Brother's University. And so David said
I would love to have one of those signs, and
we had some in the car.
Speaker 5 (18:48):
Okay, wow, and actually bad. What happened was that I
was actually just got finished cutting my yard and was
just sitting on the porch listening to the jazz and say, well,
Joe Joseph was not driving that day. If he was driving,
I had his poor wife driving that car. If he
was driving that day, I was not here, recognized that
(19:10):
was I was that brother, That's right.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
Yeah, I was on the passion side.
Speaker 5 (19:14):
That's right, he was on the passenger side. But again,
I want to congratulate you, man. I think we got
a good man there. You're you're following a good lady. Yeah,
there that that gave him, giving us some great information.
And I want to say in closing, are important it
is for us to exercise our franchise. It's always been
my honor to vote, period And when I know somebody
(19:36):
is a good person to put in that position, it
gives me a little bit more happiness to know what
my ancestors sacrifice. And I want to announce too, Sister
Bell an announcement myself. The federal courts have overturned for
now the decision of Alabama and redistricting, so we're gonna
(19:57):
pray that they do that again. Yes, ma'am, Yes, ma'am
as well, Yes, ma'am. Thank you, Dave, all right, thank.

You for calling. And I did want to say one
thing a follow up on what he said. I spent
the week at the special session where they redistricted the
city of Memphis, and it was not fun. It was
not fun. It was horrendous. And uh, some of those
Republicans felt so good about it that they wouldn't look
(20:32):
up from the floor on the way out of their
meetings at any of us. So it is vital at
this point that if you are not registered to vote,
you go get registered for August and November. If you
are not voting in the past, even though you are
registered that you go vote in August and November. And
(20:57):
I mean, there's elections in Memphis almost every year and
we're getting ten and twelve percent fourteen percent turnout. It's horrendous.
And the only way we change it is let's get
that up to eighty five.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
Okay, yeah, yeah, we need it.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
Everybody who's elgible needs to be voting. It means something.
We have races that just happened in May. Joseph's was
not one of them. He won substantially, but several of
them were under one hundred votes difference. There was one
under forty I believe it was forty and is a
(21:36):
school board race, and they recounted and it got even
closer to under forty people. You and your family can
go swing these races here and so so by all
means take David's advice.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
Yeah and go vote. Yeah, thank you David for that.

I want to say before they get out of here,
our trustee elect, Joseph will the office still be running
like it's because I think Regina has done a fabulous
job job in that office.

I have never heard anybody complain.

It's my intent that the officer will continue to thrive.
We'll continue to service all of the citizens of Shelby County.
We don't expect to lose a beat. In fact, our
charge is going to be improve and the shopping the
saw as we go forward. So that's what the intent
will be. Regina will be assisting me and our office
(22:34):
as we go forward, at least over the next six
months or so. Yeah, and I think that's going to
be a good testimon not only again that I value Regina.
I really appreciated serving with Regina. So it's going to
be a pleasure as we go forward as well. Not
a bunch of I didn't run on disrupting. What I
(22:55):
ran on experience, trust, and commitment that encapsulated the fact
that I am a member of the team. We've developed
our team. We've had some great cornerstone benchmarks that we've achieved,
even under Regina, having the highest collection rate, for example,
ninety seven point sixty four percent, the highest collection rate
(23:18):
ever in the Office of Trustee. Continue to serve seniors
and veterans with tax relief. Regina actually wrote the ordinance
on the County Commission Tax Relief Matching Program that not
only allows those qualified citizens to receive the state benefit,
but also a matching benefit from Shelby County. So those
(23:40):
are just a few of the things, but it's a
laundry list of accomplishments that we can be proud of
in Shelby County. So we want to continue to move
those forward. Absolutely good, good.

I al was Regina and Tepos and I told somebody,
I said, Regina, we say this, Regina's a badass, She's tough.
