Speaker 1 (00:00):
I'm Jesus.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Hell yeah, same America and Jerill for regious yes.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Or nation.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
This is wrong. This is Columbia's Morning News with Gary
David and Christopher Thompson on one O three point five
FM and five sixty AM w VOC.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
And good morning to you. Welcome in Columbia's Morning News
back on the radio for Tuesday, November the twenty fifth.
It is a six oh three up and Adam Bright
and early here on this Tuesday. I hope you're well.
I'm Gary David, Christopher Thompson. Good morning to you, sir,
Good morning to you. Hey.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
We had a little light rain out there. It wasn't
raining when you and I came in. I went out
to my car to get something and just kind of spitting.
It was spitting, yeah, enough to keep everything wet.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Well, we're looking at that. Bring u especially the night
in tomorrow. There's decent chances of rain, but we could
use a little. We could use a little and if
we get it, a little bit about it. But we
get it's a little but dried out in time for
Thanksgiving Day, and it sounds good and cooler. If you're
like me, you're gonna be up early Thursday morning, you know,
outside frying the turkey or whatever. Oh, be careful, well, no,
(01:17):
I remember I got that I have. I have the
infra red air fryer. That's right. You're not gonna be
messing with the big easy And it's named that for
a good reason. Man. No hot to oil for you,
no hot oil for me, baby, But it's gonna be
a little nippy. Uh. Those winds tomorrow night would be
gusting upwards about twenty three miles an hour. So you
wake up, you know, Thanksgiving morning and uh, well, well
(01:38):
we'll see lows uh in the upper thirties. So one
more day of this and then boom here. Yeah, so
a little bit, a little bit of a cold snap
coming our way. Yeah. And again a reminder, if you're
going to the Carolina Clemson game this weekend and you're
planning on tailgating before the noon kickoff, gona be cold
but sub freezing and you wake up Saturday morning, so
(01:58):
keep that in mind. All right, Good to have you here.
Big stories were follow today is a number of them,
the big ones. Fox News mentioning a few moments ago
that a judge has tossed out the indictments against well,
well Donald Trump's the president who was seeking these against
James Comy and Letitia James. A South Carolina judge, South
(02:23):
Carolina judge in fact, yes, a judge Cameron McGowan, Curie
of originally from Florence, but didn't say anything about the charges.
This is just a technicality. This is the This is
this is a ruling that the prosecutor, who has been
in the news a lot recently here, you know, did
did did she ate she know what she was doing?
(02:44):
You're kind of wondering, but did this prosecutor well really
didn't have the authority to be a prosecutor more more. Yeah,
that's pretty much a bottom line here, just a timing issue.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
And it seems like if you appoint someone else you
can restart the whole process.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
Seems that way that Lindsay Halligan, Judge Carey says was
illegally appointed to the case in the first place. So
she strikes down those indictments. Now, yeah, you're right, this
is on a technicality. This isn't on the charges. Pam
Bondi vowing to appeal. And well we'll get into this
morning whether or not Tomy and tish Wood's rather the
(03:27):
James or out of the woods on this or not.
A lot of folks think that we'll be hearing about
this one again. We've been talking a lot about healthcare recently,
and for very good reason, as we're nearing the end
of twenty twenty five and the expiration of the enhanced
subsidies for Obamacare. Well, as we mentioned yesterday, the White
(03:47):
House was going to rull out a plan, and we
pretty much looked like the Hope Act, which is a
bipartisan effort over in Congress to try to extend these
enhanced benefits, these subsidies for two years with some limits
when it comes to how much money your family makes.
And it looked like the Trump plan was pretty much
along those lines. But then well some Republicans got involved
(04:10):
and weighed in, and well, there's no joy in Mudville
apparently when it comes to this, and time is short
and a time when approval ratings for the president are down.
Matter of fact, the CBS News you gov survey released
yesterday shows Trump's approval on the economy is down fifteen
(04:33):
points since March fifteen. Just thirty six percent approve of
Trump's handling of the economy.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
Which is why this White House right now is so
laser focused on bringing down prices of everything.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
M Yeah, and this is why we're hearing about these
two thousand dollars rebate checks. The tariff rebate checks. Well, yeah,
I agree, we have better things we could spin that on.
We're just not spending at all. There's an idea. So
those are the big three we'll be looking at today.
We also have more news on, well, the backlash over
(05:10):
Trump and his comments about these Democrats who put out
this video telling troops to disregard unlawful orders. Well, now
the Pentagon is looking at one of these democrats. Well,
we have some Marjorie Taylor Green news. Not about Marjorie,
but what about her exit means from Congress. And these
parents who are held in shooting two kids in Newberry
(05:33):
County been granted bond, but they're not out yet. They're
still in jail. We'll have the details on that and
more coming up. Thanks for joining us. It's the Tuesday morning,
November twenty fifth edition of Columbia's Morning News.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
This is Columbia's Morning News with Gary David and Christopher
Thompson on one O three point five FM and five
sixty AM w VOC.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
Thank you moren Tinia it is thirteen now past six o'clock.
And yeah, we just had a pretty big shower. You're
up on our roof here at the radio range. Didn't
last long, but it was heavy. There you go. So
if you're out two around was born, you might get surprised. Now,
this is the story had a Newberry County, a mom
and the father of one of the kids. Two kids
(06:18):
were injured in a shooting over the weekend. We're talking
about a four year old and a two year old
found a shot at the seat. Now, and there were
other kids in the house the other Yeah, there was
a seven year old and a four month old in
the house. Now, mom and dad of one of the kids,
we're not the ones who pulled the trigger. Here. This
(06:39):
is one of these cases of you know, a gun
being left about and one of these kids came upon it.
Not sure which one, but one of them got the
gun from a closet. You had one of the kids
shot in the hand, the other was shot in the foot.
So so fortunately these are not life threatening injuries. The
mom said she was a clean the house when the
(07:01):
when when she heard the gunshot? Uh. The dad was
apparently in the shower at the time. So they say so,
they say allegedly, Yeah, so.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
I mean there's there's a lot involved in these two
the parents' records, which make you immediately skeptical of what
they were were not doing.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Yeah, I don't think anybody thinks any either one of
them shot the kids. But they're they're investigating. Meantime, they're
they're they're in jail. They were granted bond, but I
guess they don't have the money, can't raise the money
to get out, so they're still behind bars yesterday.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
Are you surprised they got granted bond? I mean, look
at those records. Yeah, I know, both of them multiple
criminal counts.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
That uh yeah, that that that makes it well number one,
you kind of asked the question. I mean, you've got
two individuals with that kind of a criminal background. Should
they have any kids in the home to begin with?
You know, a four year old or two year old,
a seven year old and a four month old? They
(08:13):
sure ain't, you know, in the running for mom and
Dad of the year.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
Well maybe they've, maybe they've turned it around, but this
doesn't make you any more comfortable with the idea.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
I'm really surprised that we haven't heard already the DSS
has gone to the home and removed all these kids. Yeah,
we wonder who is taking care of the kids right now. Yeah,
then there's that. So they're still behind bars and the
investigation continues over in Newberry County. And that shocking story
here in Columbia confirmation from a CPD that another teenager
has been arrested. This was over the weekend, charged with murder,
(08:50):
criminal conspiracy, assault in battery, high a grade asia a
couple of counts there. This goes back to that Airbnb
shooting back this past June over on Lincoln Street. There
were four people who were shot in that incident and
one of them, an eighteen year old, died as a result.
(09:12):
So since then, this has been what five months now
in the making. The investigation continues. There have been a
couple of arrests, three now so far.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
And this is this is the case that caused Colembia
City Council and a board to look in a whole
new way at these airbnbs and try and restrict what happens,
where it happens, and if these airbnbs can be rented
at all. By I mean a lot of neighborhoods just
simply say we don't want them.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
They put a moratorium on them for at least a
period of time, at least of any new airbnbs being
registered didn't affect the ones that were already in place.
Then it sounded like a new policy was going too far. Yeah. Yeah,
it's a lot of controversy over that, certainly. No, we've
had a couple of these around here, and I'm sure
if we had a couple around here, they happen on
(10:01):
a lot of spots. Who you've written these things to?
There are there any controls there? It's tough to do,
I know.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
This is Columbia's Morning News with Gary David and Christopher
Thompson on one O three point five FM and five
sixty AM WVOC.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
Givemarntillia at six twenty two, as firmly established on this
program yesterday, mister Thompson doesn't like turkey, not a big
fan and asked me about that yesterday, said really, till
didn't like turkey? Said apparently not. Why do you think
we only have it once a year? It ain't that great.
So you don't like you'd like sliced turkey in the
(10:39):
little packages and make sandwiches during the year.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
It's okay because it's not my favorite either. Okay, here's
what I like. I like leftover turkey that I can
then dallas and gravy and put on a sandwich.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
I do like that. But what did you like it
the first time around? Then? I don't know. Just not
my thing. Okay, that's fine. Adam Chef over the weekend,
speaking of sir get turkeys, saying that this year's Thanksgiving
turkey is set to rise a whopping for where did
(11:10):
he get that number? I have no idea where's he shopping? Well,
because he's from California, so you know, California. Who knows?
But I mean, as I mentioned before, and bought the
turkey a couple of weeks ago. It's by the way
right now, thong in the fridge. I think it's a
twelve pounder, three dollars in change.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
Yeah, I mean we talked about all the stores that
were offering Thanksgiving dinners, complete dinners.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Oh yeah, yeah, with deals you could do Oh what
all these A number of them? Walmart tell you that
you could feed a family of ten. And this is
not just for the turkey, but for for all the
all the all the stuff that goes with it for
like under forty bucks. Maybe maybe that's where Shifty Shift
got mixed up that the maybe what he meant to
(12:02):
say was yeah, you can actually feed a family of
ten for forty bucks, but he messed up and said
the turkey's going to go a whopping forty percent. I
don't know, not sure he's buying his. But then again,
I guess we should rephrase this. Adam Schiff says, without evidence,
that turkey was set to and this was Sunday. Okay,
Thanksgiving is this Thursday, and this was Sunday is going
(12:24):
they're going to rise? Well, when were they going to rise?
If they're going to rise a Adam, they had already
done it, man, A lot of people have already bought theirs.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
And this was prior to that that truck wreck you
told us about in North Carolina. All tragedies got loose. Yes,
the tragedy, the ones that weren't disposed of.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
It was it was it was painful to talk about
that actually, And they took some of the turkeys that
didn't perish in the incident to like a rehab center
to do what when they're done rehabbing, what happens to
them then? By the way, the presidential pardon today of
the two turkeys, you got to wobble and gobble I
(13:04):
think of the name of the turkeys and this one.
Now online voting is closed, but you actually go online
and vote for which one to be pardoned? Yes, you could.
I'm not sure you make that decision. But of online
voting closed last night, I'll go ahead and go out
on a limb here and make a bold prediction that
what happens today is the president actually will pardon both
(13:26):
of the turkeys, not just one of them. But I
don't think he'll partner shif.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
This is Columbia's Morning News with Gary David and Christopher
Thompson on one O three point five FM and five
sixty AM w VOC.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
It is six thirty three come out upon six thirty
three more until you good. To have you on board
for Tuesday, November twenty fifth. I am Gary David. He
is Christopher Thompson. All right, So the news yesterday making
the rounds and making a big splash here that a
judge who just so happens to be right here in
South Carolina, Federal Judge Cameron McGowan Curie, has dismissed those
(14:07):
indictments against Trish Nor, Tish Letitia James, and James Comy.
This back and forth continues. Now, let me see, we
had what an appeals court judge, appeals court had had
had a ruling that went against the Trump administration that
got reversed. This one is different though. In this particular case,
(14:33):
the judge says that, well, the prosecutor, who's been in
the news a lot for all the wrong reasons, was
illegally appointed. This is a us Toorney Lindsay Halligan that
she was illegally appointed to try the case in the
first case in the first place. So we've had, well,
(15:00):
another judge had ruled that what was the grand jury
never heard the full indictment, and then a couple of
days later, so no they did. Okay, that was weird.
But this has nothing to do with the marriage of
the case right here. This is just well to do
with the Lindsay Halligan, who, again by reports it, really
(15:25):
watched this thing terribly to begin with. Nobody's you know,
saying that the Halligan is not a good attorney. It
sounds like she probably is. But if I'm not mistaken,
mister Thompson, you tell me if I'm wrong here. She
really had no prosecutorial experience, did she. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
There were questions about her qualifications, about the timing, and
apparently she was at the end of her Even if
you know she was qualified, she was at the end
of her run as a temporary prosecutor.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
Yeah, this was an interim prosecutor. So this begs the
question you're going letitia James will put her aside for
a second. All right, you're going after James Comy, former
director of the FBI and a high profile case. Lots
(16:20):
of bad blood, Yeah, lots of Oh, this is troumple
going after his enemies. And this goes back to did
Comy lie in front of Congress? What about five years ago?
I guess? And during testimony you got all this on
the line, and and you assign a prosecutor number one
who's on an interim basis, and number two and most importantly,
(16:46):
who's never prosecuted a case in her life. What is that?
Speaker 3 (16:50):
That is speed, That is moving too quickly, and that
is political pressure put on the Attorney general by the resident.
I mean he came out on truth social and said,
what's happening? Why haven't we started going after these people?
She had no choice. I mean, here's her boss saying,
why haven't you gotten this done yet? And it's not
(17:11):
exactly like she's been hitting home runs already in that position. No,
so she felt pressure to immediately respond, so she did something.
He wanted her to do something immediately she did, and
it was the wrong move.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
This is becoming a pattern here, Unfortunately, you know it's
it's ready fire aim. It seemed like in way too
many instances. Now, this ruling again is basically a technicality.
This has no bearing or impact on whether or not
this case could move forward with a different prosecutor, and
(17:46):
Pam Bondy is avowing to appeal this ruling. But I
think this is gonna be a case where, okay, maybe
you have to start from scratch all over again. But
if it's that important to you to do it.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
And it is stronger it's Ernie General would have sent
word to the White House saying stay out of it.
You know, this is an investigation. We'll do it the
right way and we'll follow all the procedures to get
it done. The White House needs to be not be
involved in this at all.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
Unfortunately for Pam Bondy it has been would appear to
be a comedy of errors since the outset of this administration,
and it's just not getting any better. A Jonathan Turley,
the George Washington University law professor of some note, it's
among those who think that that these two are nin
out of the woods yet that this will this will
(18:35):
will come back around again, But just not will Lindsay Alligan.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
This is Columbia's Morning News with Gary David and Christopher
Thompson on one O three point five FM and five
sixty AM. W VOC.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
Well, I keep hitting the button, it keeps not coming
on here. I'm pounding the button over here. I'm here
six forty two. Good morning, Okay, I'm lying. I was
getting coffee. It's Tuesday, number twenty five. This, as we've
been told now, is going to be the busiest travel
day of this Thanksgiving holiday. This is really not the
(19:14):
day you want to be going on airport.
Speaker 3 (19:15):
Man, how many times will you hear the words pack
your patience today?
Speaker 1 (19:20):
Pack? Yeah, there have been some delays, there are some
weather across the country. But yeah, fortunately you know the
I guess the air traffic control system is back to
well whatever it was before the shutdown. Yeah, it's weather
that's the issue.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
Clemson women's basketball was supposed to play a game tonight
against Louisiana Monroe, but ULM can't make it to Clemson.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
I saw that.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
Yeah, they didn't have time to make other arrangements. Well,
the only other arrangements getting on the road. And you
know who wants to take a.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
I mean, there's not a single flight out of Louisiana
to South Carolina. Apparently they couldn't find anything that was
going to make it work. No, Okay, well, there will
be delays just because of the sheer volume in the weather,
but it won't be basically, well, listen, even now, there
are still control towers that are short on folks to
(20:15):
demand them. They were before the shutdown and they still
are now. But things are back to whatever normal was
prior to the shutdown. Okay, but the hits keep coming,
at least well not for us. But you know, of
all times, a pipeline leak disrupting jet fuel, this is
(20:35):
in the Pacific Northwest, a sea tax Seattle, Tacoma. A
pipeline leak, the Olympic pipeline not at the airport, but
it carries all sorts of gas, diesel, jet fuel from
northwest Washington to terminals and parts of in Seattle, parts
of Oregon, including that airport shutdown after they discovered the
(20:57):
leak arder this month. Boy, so this is going to
impact some Northwest travel. Fortunately, hopefully you don't have to
worry about that. You're not hitting out that way. If
you're hitting the Pacific northwest. Number one, you should have
your head examined, Okay, just saying, just saying.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
They're just looking at the qualifications to become an air
traffic controller because you would think, I mean we've faced
situations like this right here in the Midlands for example
at Outvin s Glenn, where we talk all the time
about the incentives that they're providing right now because they're
so desperate for prison guards. Well, you would think we
would have a similar program in place. Air traffic controller.
(21:35):
You've got to be a US citizen under the age
of thirty one before you start training.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
High school diploma. It rules me out high school.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
Diploma or equivalent, and then you pass pre employment tests
and medical exam, security background. But it's there's no psyche
valon there. I mean, there's rigorous training after that. Yeah,
you've got to go through the FAA academy. But I
mean between that.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
We are paying bonuses to attract ice officers, we should
be paying some bonuses to attract some air traffic controllers.
What is the salary? I'm looking that up.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
A median annual wage about one hundred and forty four
thousand dollars.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
Okay, sign me up. Yeah, Oh I'm too old. Never mind.
Just first, it's a good paying gain. But I'm gonna
tell you what, man, It is stressful like nobody's business.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
Yeah, just for training. Forty three thousand to sixty thousand.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
Wow. So I mean you're getting paid while you're training. Yeah,
there you go. You got a youngster in the household
looking for a good dan. It's it's going to be
a stressful one, but it's good paying.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
You're listening to Columbia's morning news on one oh three
point five FM and five sixty AM WVOC.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
It is three minutes after seven o'clock.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
Here's Gary David and Christopher Thompson.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
Thank you. Where was I? Oh yeah, it's three minutes
after seven o'clock. Good morning, it still is. Nothing has changed.
And yes, I'm Gary David and he's Christopher Thompson, and
we're happy to have you with us this morning. So
I'm having a hard time understanding this. But help me
(23:10):
with this, mister Thompson. I don't know if I can.
If you ask any politician out there, especially somebody who
wants to run for the highest office in the land,
what matters most of.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
Voters, It's likely to be in money issue in some
form or fashion.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Always is, isn't it.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
Whether it's you know, what housing costs these days, what
groceries cost which we saw that come up time and
time again in the Biden campaign. Yeah, but yeah, it
has something to do with your pocketbook.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
You know. They coined the phrase back during the Clinton years, right,
it's the economy stupid, yep. It always has been that
it will be. Yeah. So when CBS News drops a
poll yesterday, this shows that Trump's approval on the e
economy is down fifteen points since March. It's time for
(24:06):
the administration and time for the Republican Party to, you know,
to figure this out here. Where's the messaging on the economy.
If there's a message, it's not resonating thirty six percent
of Americans according to this poll. Again, if you can
believe the poll. But you know, I kind of believe
this one. Just thirty six percent of US approve of
(24:29):
Trump's handling of the economy. It was fifty one percent
in early March. Well, I'll say it again, he got
left with a bag of you know what from the
Biden administration. But people really really believed that somehow, miraculously
(24:49):
Donald Trump could turn it around on a time. Number one,
you can't do that. Any rational person understands that. It's
it's the economy is a big thing, and it's going
to take a while. But so for me, it's again,
where's the messaging on this? Where's the focus? This is
not to say that this administration the Republicans aren't focused
(25:12):
on the economy, but in particular with the president, he
gets focused on so many things. Yeah, it's just so
many All this stuff gets thrown out there. Every day
is something new pop up, and and so the message
on the economy gets lost in the shuffle. Which they've
changed that.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
I will give them credit, they've changed that over the
last couple of weeks. But still, I mean, you've got
stories popping up every day, and you know Trump will
turn it into a major headline instead of you know,
sticking to the script. Yeah, and there have been so
many it's changed. The focus has changed from week to
week within the administration.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
See that's problematic. You know, the last job I would
want would be to try to be the you know,
the comms director for this White House. Sure you got
to focus at least on a couple things. Okay, narrow
the focus. Get the message out to the American people,
because you know what, the economy is better than it was.
(26:10):
Look at the inflation rate. Look at that last jobs
number that came out last week. I mean, it blew
out expectations. And I'll throw one other thing at you.
Speaker 3 (26:17):
The shutdown didn't help because a lot of people saw that,
you know, either directly or indirectly, as affecting them negatively. Oh,
the government's not working. Then we can't get this. Then
we can't get that. Even if you're not a federal worker,
it may have indirectly affected you.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
Sure, yeah, maybe maybe you got maybe you got a
flight cancel, yeah, a unit or whatever. The big change
here is in the independence. Of course, the Democrats were
never going to give Trump any points on the economy
or anything else for that matter. Republicans will always, no
matter what, you know, not always, but independence back in March,
(26:59):
forty six percent approved of the job that Trump was
doing on the economy. Number one, Why are you don't
asked that question two months into an administration? That's stupid
to even ask that question, right then? Okay, But having
said that, now just twenty four percent of Independence approve
of it. So the ratio is seventy six twenty four
disapprove the independence the people who decide elections. And here
(27:24):
we go, getting ready to blast off into a midterm election.
Here James Carvel urging Democrats to run what he called
pure economic rage. Here's the problem for the Republicans as
I see it, for the most part, not totally, but
for the most part, the Democrats have realized that, you know,
running on the whole woke thing and all of that,
(27:46):
or the anti cop thing that was self destructive, Well
it didn't work. I'm going to predict the message. They're
gonna listen to Karble this time. The message for the
Democrats is going to be just that run on pure
economic rage. And if they do that, the midterms are
not going to look good for the Republican Party unless
(28:07):
they can come up with a consistent messaging and stick
to the point. Continue to make things happen, but continue
to make sure that people understand things are happening and
get on point here.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
Yeah, and I think a big healthcare fix would certainly
that would be a boon to the Republicans if they
can figure it out and then stick again to the script.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
This is Columbia's Morning News with Gary David and Christopher
Thompson on one oh three point five FM and five
sixty AM WVOC.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
The seven thirteen. All right, so what about the subsidies?
What about health insurance? What about healthcare in this country?
The other the big piece of this whole economic package here,
the Republicans have got to figure out and figure out fast.
Just weeks left now to deal with this, and considering
they're probably more than likely want to take a little
(28:59):
time off for the Christmas break, we are talking really
just a few weeks left to come up with something. So,
as we discussed yesterday morning, if you're with us, and
if you weren't, where were you dog gone? Oh you
weren't here, Olstin, I don't have to explain all over again,
why why you're hearing things in different spots? We have
to go through that again. Okay, Well, we probably should. Yeah. Well,
(29:23):
uh yeah, if you're, if you're you know, many of
view there are longtime listeners, and we love you for it.
And you might have thought, as I got an email
from from one of our long time listeners yesterday, my
circadian rhythms have been thrown off. Yeah, we're we're we're
doing things in a different order now. And this because
starting next week, next Monday, we'll this program move be
(29:46):
here and only here in Columbia, but also in Charleston
as well on our sister station down there. So we're,
you know, working together to accommodate the things timing wise.
And that's that's why we're doing different things in different spots.
And we're sorry that we've messed up your circadian rhythm.
Everything we've mest hours too. Yeah, everything's the same, just
in different spots, a different spots. Yeah, nothing else changes.
We'll all get used to it soon. Yeah. I feel
(30:08):
better about today than I did yesterday. I can tell
you I was, yes I thought, what am I doing here?
Where am I going next? Anyway? Where were we? Oh? Yeah?
Health insurance. So as we talked about yesterday, there's two
things going on here. There's the Hope Act by partisan
act in Congress that would extend the current subsidies for
(30:31):
two more years, would cap it at I think a
family of four two hundred thousand dollars above that you
don't get the subsidies. That's the gist of it. And
the White House, or reports of the White House, was getting
set to roll out their plan that, according to anonymous sources,
looked a lot like the Hope Act. There would be
certain income caps and it would be a two year extension.
(30:52):
But then it got pushed back, apparently from the Republicans
or some at least, and you'll, well, maybe you will
guess what they want clarification on here? Abortion?
Speaker 3 (31:12):
Uh Now, abortion is not covered under federal subsidies right. However,
currently the states can use money as they so see
fit and that's where well, and it sounds like it
was coming from the White House, they had at least
floated a plan that would have even greater restrictions, right,
(31:36):
and that caught some Republicans off guard. There are also
some conservatives in the House who said they're not voting
for subsidies extent subsidies extensions anyway, so they're not happy
with Trump on that.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
I don't know what. They don't know what their plan is.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
Yeah, I don't know, none of us are are are
thrilled with the concept.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
I'm not. Well, if you're on Obamacare, you are.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
But but this just shows years after the fact, Republicans
still can't get together on a consistent plan. And this
is this was the one thing they needed to do
coming out of this shutdown. It's gonna come back to
bite you in the butt. Yeah, you could have avoided
all this, but but but they weren't ready for it.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
And so I can't believe we're here at the last minute,
here now, with the week's left and and just now
trying to formulate plans and then bickering over them.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
I'll be honest with you, I'm not sure Speaker Mike
Johnson survives this. This is this has just been a fiasco,
and he's going to ultimately be blamed for it.
Speaker 1 (32:38):
Uh yeah, just gotta gotta some somehow the cinemajority leader,
why stays above the fray on this kind of thing.
That's the position you want. You want to be House Speaker,
you want to be a cinemajority leader. At seven seventeen,
and this is Columbia's Morning News.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
You're listening to Columbia's morning news on one oh three
point five FM and five sixty AMVOC. Once again, here's
Gary David and Christopher Thompson's.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
Twenty three after seven o'clock in the morning for Tuesday,
November twenty fifth, just two days away from Thanksgiving Day
and today the busiest travel day of the period. You
should have packed that turkey sandwich with you before you're
at the airport this morning.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
I could be it could be a long day the weather.
Is that going to be a continuing story this week?
As far as the delays we've already seen in the Midwest,
for example.
Speaker 1 (33:29):
At least for a couple of days, yankes. Yeah, it
looks like, uh, I don't know. I got to tell you,
I I don't consider often enough how how fortunate I
am that you know, our family is all within driving distance. Yeah,
and we almost always have it at our house. Yeah.
(33:53):
I don't mind traveling, but I don't want to travel
this time of the year, no way, Jose.
Speaker 3 (33:58):
The only day I want to travel is Thanksgiving Day
because it seems like traffic's so light on that day.
Speaker 1 (34:03):
That's the day to do it, right. You all are
staying in town. Are you're going down to see mom?
Speaker 3 (34:08):
We are staying in town, okay, going over to Jennifer's
family's house.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
Ah.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
Yeah, And we've got some family coming in and staying
with us. So okay, we got that going on too,
All right, this is gonna be big time. Yeah, we
got more of We found out yesterday the boys are
coming over to hang out with us on Saturday and
watch Karana Clemson gain.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
Okay you know why, because it'll be left over turkey
ah ham marked. Yeah, they no dummy, Mommy didn't raise
no dummies. Man, they got this thing figured out. What
is a day without controversy? Over in Richland School District one?
Oh what's happening there now? Yes, well, this one kind
of peels in comparison to most of them. But apparently
(34:49):
they're not following well their own policy when it comes
to renting out school facilities to outside groups. New internal
audit showing up, Well, they may have lo revenue, they
might have risked, but potential legal issues like the gym
or performing arts center. Yeah, things like that I'm going
to get out to au basketball and such and this
(35:11):
and that, and apparently they're not going by the rules. Okay,
lost revenue one thing. I'm not sure how much that is,
But to me, the bigger story here is you could
have opened yourself up to some sort of a legal risk. Yeah,
you're bringing an AAU basketball tournament right when they covered
and they insured. I mean, what's you can wind up
holding the bag on something if a kid gets hurt.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
Yeah, some of those holiday basketball tournaments are big money makers,
but boy, you don't want to leave yourself open.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
At least three instances, the audit shows where outside groups
paid Oa Claire High School directly to use facilities and
bypassed mental contracts. Now, I don't think anybody's saying, wait
a minute, is somebody improperly benefiting from this or not.
I don't think that's part of the audit. But when
you read something like that, that's the first thing that
pops in your head. Probably, but apparently nobody is making
(35:59):
those kind of allegations, or at least it doesn't seem.
But again, these are their own policies they put into
place in the district, and in at least three instances,
they weren't being followed.
Speaker 3 (36:13):
And it's it's the people who are renting who have
to jump through the hoops. That's not any additional work
for you.
Speaker 1 (36:19):
Right exactly. You've got the policy in place, procedure in place,
so make them do it. Or maybe this is hey,
let's make it as easy on these people as possible.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
Maybe it's friends who are, you know, talking to the
athletics director and saying, hey, can I have your gym
this weekend?
Speaker 1 (36:32):
And then there's that. Yeah. So in the bigger picture,
I mean, this is pales in comparison to most of
the the issues that that district seems to be plagued
with time and time again. But just just another another
one here to talk about. They have it all right,
still to come. The Pentagon says they're investigating at least
(36:55):
one senator part of this video that was rolled out
telling troops to disregard unlawful orders from the president. Do
you agree with this, Well, we'll give you all the
details that we could talk about it.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
This is Columbia's Morning News with Gary David and Christopher
Thompson on one O three point five FM and five
sixty AM w VOCs.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
It's seven thirty four. Good morning now. It's become the
running theme of the program this morning. I think, uh
my advice for what it's worth it I'd be worth
a whole lot. But my advice to the Republican Party
get on message, stay on message. My advice to the
administration get on message, stay on message. And the message
(37:39):
is money, the economy. Okay, our money. Yeah, we're gonna
turn around. Listen, Thanksgiving and Christmas is gonna be here
and gone before you know it, and we're gonna be,
you know, waking up, and it's gonna be the new year,
it's gonna be twenty twenty six, it's gonna be midterm year,
and the party needs to get on message and stay
(37:59):
on message. In the administration needs to do the same.
So let's go to the story that the Pentagon now
yesterday announced they're investigating Mark Kelly possible breaches of military law.
This is the Senator, of course, former astronaut, Navy pilot,
Navy pilot and a Democrats center from Arizona. The statement
(38:25):
for the Pentagon citing a federal law that allows retired
service members to be recalled to active duty on orders
of the Defense Secretary for possible court martial or other measures.
So the Pentagon says the court martial for Kelly is possible. Okay,
let's back up here. This stems from that video of
(38:46):
which he was a part of. The Democrats six six six. Yeah, yeah,
they've been called the seditious six, the seditius six. I
like that, you know, telling military and intelligence operatives that
you know, not not to follow unlawful orders from the
commander in chief.
Speaker 3 (39:03):
But then you ask them and none of them can
say which order than Trump gave was unlawful.
Speaker 1 (39:08):
Not the first one can tell you. None of them
can tell you that. So yeah, on the face of it,
that was outrageous, outrageous. Now Trump responds with a sedition
and he's right, But then he yeah, and then he
(39:29):
goes one step further and talks about, you know, possible,
you know, execution for a charge of sedition, which is
a fact. But it didn't need to be said, because again,
you're opening yourself up again to more criticism from the left.
Let let the owners stay on these six Democrats. Don't
put it back on yourself by bringing that up. Okay,
(39:51):
no one was suggesting they'd be punished by violence. No.
Now so now the Pentagon and I have to ask
this question because apparently all six of these senators have
either some military or intelligence background. Why is it just
Mark Kelly that they're pointing out here? Why not any other?
And I'm not sure which one served the military, which
(40:11):
ones didn't, But why just Kelly? I don't know. But
again the point is is, uh, this is a federal law.
I'm not disagreeing with that. I'm just disagreeing with the
optics of it right now when it just gives some
people something else to be distracted by. Look at this, No,
(40:36):
look at that, Oh, look at what someone? Look at
this over here? My goodness. The administration needs to focus
like a laser beam on the thing that will make
a difference in the midterm elections. And that's just one thing.
The Democrats, as we mentioned, they've they've given up on
this idea and this messaging of of you know, diversity
(41:00):
and inclusion and wokeness and LGBTQ rights and men competing
against women in sports. They they've gone away from that
and they're going to focus on the economy, even though
it's there a party that put us in this mess
to begin with. So please, let's get back on let's
get back on track here, and let's stop with all
(41:21):
the distractions. I'm not saying I disagree with any of
this stuff, that what they did was wrong by posting
that video bad, horribly wrong, disgracefully wrong. But leave that
on them, okay, don't put the focus back on you
say and that what you're doing is wrong, and just
get on message. Here. It's six thirty eight. Thanks for
(41:42):
joining us. It's the Tuesday edition of Columbia's Morning News.
It's actually seven thirty eight. But what time it was
six thirty eight? Oh well, I'm the wrong times on that. Okay.
For the record, it's now seven thirty nine.
Speaker 2 (41:57):
You're listening to Columbia's Morning You on one oh three
point five FM on five sixty am w VOC. Once again,
here's Gary David and Christopher Thompson.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
We try to get this right. It's seven forty three.
That a boy, right, seven forty three. You just think
on the day ride all morning? It's Tuesday, it is,
it's over for twenty fifth. I got that right, at
least it on a short I'm betting a thousand on that. Yeah,
on a short week. Man, A lot to get to
in here. Between now tomorrow we will be off the
air of Thanksgiving morning and Black Friday, and then next Monday.
(42:33):
We begin are broadcasting not just here in Colombia as
we have for now twenty five years with its program,
well just shy twenty five years almost. But we'll be
on in Charleston as well. It'll be South Carolina's morning news.
You'll hear a new name, but just the same, the
same faces you can't see, thank goodness. It's what do
(42:53):
you think we're in a radio? Come on? But yeah,
everything else stays the same. You know, our focus will
be all the things are focus has always been on
what's important to you. Yeah, that's all it matters, because
you know we listen. We you know, we did just
fall off the old tournative truck here. If you don't
care about it, then then well we don't exist, right,
(43:16):
That's the way it works. So very excited. And look
at them order making a bunch of new friends down
in Charleston as well. Price is going up by in
twenty twenty six this time. The post office, how do
they stay in business? Man? When's the last time you
put a stamp on something? Probably two years ago? Really?
Speaker 3 (43:39):
Yeah, I mean I can't think of anything that I
have to mail anymore.
Speaker 1 (43:46):
I have like eight stamps at the house that I
use every year to follow my quarterly taxes with. Yeah,
that's it. It's the onlys to stamp for. They're not
going up on the price of a stamp, but Priority
mail services will be raised six point six percent, Priority
Mail Express services up five point one, Ground Advantage prices
(44:09):
seven point eight Parcel Select prices up six percent. This
is this is the only thing the post Office makes
money on these days. They're doing other things. They're doing
other things. They're delivering parcels, you know, they're if you
order something off Amazon, it may come by Amazon, it
may come by you know, one of these other service
it may come by the by the post Office.
Speaker 3 (44:30):
But I give them credit for that. I mean, they
branched out because they were losing money.
Speaker 1 (44:34):
But we've been we don't don't price yourself out of
the market.
Speaker 3 (44:37):
Yeah, well we've been told they were going under for
years and years and years, and what a price of
stamp is going up? The price of a stamp is
gone up every year for years.
Speaker 1 (44:44):
Yeah, but hey, the price of a first class stamp
will will not change. What is it now, seventy six
cents something like that. Yeah, I don't know, because you know,
I bought the Forever stamp like ten years ago.
Speaker 3 (44:56):
A good investment, right? Was I smarter what he dot
on the black market?
Speaker 1 (45:04):
Uh? Yeah, I could probably get a I could probably
make some money off those stamps, couldn't I seventy eight
cents seventy eight Oh and by the way, I don't
care that I send out a stamp. But you know
in in April that's cut, you know, is a Christmas
theme stamp. And it's like, well, she will not do that,
Like what do I care? A stamp is a stamp,
stamps a stamp. Man I paid for. I'm going to
(45:26):
use it.
Speaker 2 (45:29):
This is Columbia's Morning News with Gary David and Christopher
Thompson on one O three point five FM and five
sixty AM w VOCN pit A.
Speaker 1 (45:39):
Seven fifty one. Now, other than just maybe one day
a few days ago where there was some rumblings that
ice was here in Columbia, we were having anything else
about that? Have I missed anything there? I don't think so.
We haven't seen a big show of force ice knocking
down doors, dragging people out in the middle of the night,
making them disappear. Operation Cola, Operation Ice Cola. I like
(46:02):
that there It is. I mean, if you all decided
to come on down, there's the name right there. Carrie
has already come up with your name. I got your
name for you. The mission mission objective there is. Come on, man,
I'm a branding expert. Come on, Operation ice COLA beautiful.
Well yeah, I mean remember that that came from one
activist who claimed he was getting phone calls. Nobody could
(46:24):
confirm anything. And I think we had heard more about it.
But now had it been happening, Well, the I guess
the the operation what Charlotte's Webb is wrapped up? Now,
up up up the road, up like DHS dropping a
new report a couple of days ago that a record
breaking number of illegals, now more than sixty five thousand,
(46:46):
are being held in nice attention facilities. I don't know what.
At what point it becomes there are too many and
we got to do something else. Now, remember the we
didn't have this problem with the Biden administration, and this
story maybe one of the reasons why the Senate Racing
(47:07):
report labeled flight risk, alleging that the Biden White House
pressured airports to house migrants. We saw the evidence of that.
We saw that in Chicago for example in O'Hare that
they were using airports as places to house migrants, even
(47:33):
though the warnings were plentiful. But it's an airport for
crying out loud. Safety is paramount, and the Biden White
House was pressuring airports to house migrants. Crazy.
Speaker 3 (47:54):
Well, it's a shelter of sorts, it's open twenty four hours,
it's climate controlled, there's food, yeah, yeah, bathrooms.
Speaker 1 (48:04):
I guess somebody were the Biden White House. What was
that movie years ago with with Tom Hanks? Tom Hanks
and he was trapped into the airport and it was
the terminal or something, the terminal or something like that.
I didn't bother to watch that, but I guess maybe
somebody in the Biden White House. So I think there's
a great idea. Let's take somebody who's you know, somebody okay, yeah,
well yeah, let's put up at airports. At least eleven of them,
(48:27):
according to report, including Boston's Logan That airport rings a
bell for a reason. Boston's Logan Airport, Yeah, oh yeah,
that was one of the ones where one of the
nine to eleven planes took off from Yeah O'Hare JFK.
They were asked or even pressured to house migrants inside terminals,
(48:48):
hangars and auxiliary buildings. That's why I didn't see him
in these detention camps. They're just being housed in airports
all across the land. Brilliant. It's seven to fifty four.
We appreciate it as always. You joining us. It is
the Tuesday morning, November twenty fifth edition of Columbia's Morning News.
Morning com here on this two day away from Thanksgiving Tuesday.
(49:10):
Good to have you with us.
Speaker 2 (49:17):
You're listening to Columbia's Morning News on one oh three
point five FM on five sixty AM WVOC. Once again,
here's Gary David and Christopher Thompson.
Speaker 1 (49:28):
They know three three big stories this morning, and the
top one Fox just mentioned has a South count of
tie to it. And that is the the case against
James Comby and Letitia James getting tossed out by a
federal judge who just happens to be right here in
little old South Carolina. Cameron McGowan Curie dismissing these indictments.
Speaker 3 (49:54):
Yesterday, but on a technicality, on a technicality, Yeah, so
that that deserves a little explaining. Uh the technicality was,
She says that well, Lindsay Halligan, the prosecutor was uh well,
illegally appointed. Part of the problem here is the backstory
(50:15):
is that the Democrats are doing whatever they can to
keep any appointees from getting through. We had this uh
what in New Jersey with and I can't think of
her name now, the former Trump lawyer. Oh you know
what I'm talking about.
Speaker 1 (50:33):
Number one. Trump doesn't hire anybody that's not you know,
you don't have no ugly people attract Yeah. Anyway, so
that she ran the problems there installed her is the
uh the u s attorney in New Jersey. And then,
of course you can't do that as the Democrats have
been They've been sitting on these approving these nominations now
(50:53):
thank you, since since January and they continue to So, yeah,
you do what you can do. But in this particular case,
this prosecutor and again this this is what blew my
mind about this is Lindsay Halligan, who apparently, by all
accounts is a very good lawyer. Problem is, she's not
a prosecutor, has never prosecuted a case in her life. Now,
(51:18):
to me, it's just nuts that you would take somebody,
good attorney or not and have the try him out
in Kitty court first, right, you know, go after some
you know, some low life on a drug wrapper something.
Don't put this person in the position of having to
go after, you know, a a political enemy. Let's call
(51:42):
it what it is. Yes, in a very volatile environment.
Speaker 3 (51:46):
Especially if she's temporarily appointed and she's at the end
of that appointment.
Speaker 1 (51:50):
Yeah, I don't, I don't. I don't get it. Man,
it's this was too important of a case. Yeah, you
had a lot of people this shouldn't be brought in
the first place. Well, I don't agree with that, but
(52:11):
you've just played into their their way of thinking.
Speaker 3 (52:13):
Now once again, Yeah, it looks like you were in
such a hurry to get revenge against a political opponent
that you didn't even do anything right.
Speaker 1 (52:22):
Right, So the ruling from the federal judge here in
South Carolina is that Halligan again, who had no prosecutorial experience.
Maybe I'm making too much of that, but I don't
think I am was improperly appointed as the interim And
as a result, the indictments against Comy and James are invalid.
Speaker 3 (52:48):
So it's a technicality and so you reindict right, you
start all over again. This is this is not the
end of the road here, and pambody demanding an appeal
and legal action, don't appeal this judge's rule and just
start over again and do it right, yeah, right that
the judge has said nothing about the merits of the case.
(53:09):
This is simply a paperwork error, right, absly, and there
seem to be a lot of them here.
Speaker 1 (53:15):
And again. You know, I'm not trying to go after
Halligan here on this necessarily, but you put her in
a position with which he had no experience, and what
did you think was going to happen? So this is
on a technical ground and the merits of the case
are still good. Judge didn't say they weren't. So I'm like, okay, bonding,
(53:38):
go back and start over again, and this time do
it the right way, and do it with somebody that's
have experienced doing this sort of thing and get it done.
Jonathan Turley weighing in on this, so that, yeah, these
two can still face charges again. This has got nothing
to do with the merits of the actual case itself.
(54:00):
Problem is is the White House is trying to get
you know, people appointed to these positions, and the Democrats
are at every turn rebuffing them on that. I know
both play that game. I get it. But at some
point in time, you're Okay, the fund's over here. We've
got business to take care of and let's take care
of it, Sue.
Speaker 3 (54:21):
And the American people elected this party to govern for
the next two years.
Speaker 1 (54:26):
With the like of you don't like it, that's what
the election determined. Okay, But again, this is just another
this is another form of election denial. Basically what it
is just another form of election Annihiland.
Speaker 2 (54:45):
This is Columbia's Morning News with Gary David and Christopher
Thompson on one O three point five FM and five
sixty AM. W VOC.
Speaker 1 (54:54):
Hey, thanks for being here. We appreciate that. It's thirteen
after eight, two days away from Turkey Day. I can
smell it already. Man. You guess I'd go out and
make sure my infrared deep Turkey fire still works, so
I always use it once a year.
Speaker 3 (55:13):
The sides are the thing for me. I think the
I think the sides of the word, that's what sells
most people on Thanksgiving. Yeah, it's the one year we
need a bigger plate, right absolutely.
Speaker 1 (55:23):
I mean it's impossible to get all those sides on there.
Here's what's your favorite. I love dressing. Yeah, yeah, some
people call it stuff. In another parts of the country,
you're called dressing.
Speaker 3 (55:33):
Around in the South. That's right, you call it dressing
now unless it's in the bird. But you like the
homemade or you like the stovetop brand, No, homemade, absolutely, Yeah.
So of those of my boys that grew up like
the stovetop stuff, which just breaks Anne's heart. And she
loves to make stuff, and so she has to make
the stuff again, deal with stovetop for them.
Speaker 1 (55:50):
Okay, but it's all good. It's all good. Sweet potato casserole,
and I hate sweet potatoes, but I love sweet potato
cash Go figure because it's got brown sugar and marshmallows
all over. That's why. Yeah, dog on it and butter. Yep. Yeah, Okay,
that makes sense. Okay, I got it. It occurs to
me that there's been a couple of days since we've
mentioned AI, and usually when we're talking about AI these days,
(56:14):
it's well, because these big AI data centers are, you know,
sucking up all the energy around here. We we did
talk about this a couple of days ago, that NRK
or something like that, the North American Energy Regulatory Commission
or whatever it is out with the ominous warnings that,
especially with folks at the northeast, that you might go
(56:36):
without you know, heat this this winter potentially begets too
cold because these AI data farms are sucking up all
your energy. Who put them at the front of the line. Well,
another take here on AI this morning, and that was
an executive order that was announced by and signed by
the President yesterday Genesis Mission. Uh, this is to accelerate
(57:01):
artificial intelligence uses for scientific purposes. So this directive is
starting the Department of Energy and the Office of Science
and Technology Policy y'all know OSTP, right, Oh sure, yeah, sure,
and their national abs to start working with private companies
(57:21):
to share federal data sets, advanced supercomputing capabilities, and scientific facilities.
Speaker 3 (57:27):
Okay, well, so is this to make the process more
efficient well sharing data?
Speaker 1 (57:35):
Yeah, okay, anytime you mentioned sharing data and this is
data sets, this is kind of a different thing. This
is not your personal data we're talking about here. But
anytime you hear that we're sharing anything data, people kind
of you kind of freak out right. Maybe this is
the government realizing Okay, we get it. Private industry does
a much better job of these sorts of things than
we do. So let's tap into some of that. Now.
(57:58):
I don't know what the end product is. Why I'm
I think in the end product here, although it's said
to be for you know, energy and technology and such that,
you know, I'm just seeing terminator. We're written all over
this all right, this is, this is but this is
a part of it. It has to be. And as
(58:18):
much as well, I don't know about you, but me
for one, to just despise the whole concept of artificial
intelligence and what it's going to do in this country.
Truth of the matter is, it's out there, and refusing
to play would be kind of like, oh, well, a
nuclear you know, the atomic bomb has been developed, but
(58:40):
we don't want to do that here. We don't have
any choice. We got to keep up. Well, we have
to keep up. We got to lead, and Trump issued
an AI policy back in July called Winning the Race
Americans America's Action AI Action Plan. We don't have a choice.
We gotta not just hang in there with it. We
(59:01):
gotta be in front of everybody else. Yeah, I think
we're good. This is gonna be the new Cold War.
Right when you say everybody else, I think China immediately exactly,
mainly China. Yeah, this is gonna be the the the
deterrence thing all over again. Right, it used to be bombs,
Now it's gonna be a I don't use it against
us because look what we got over here. So that
(59:23):
guy signed yesterday. By the way, did you know? And
this I came across this when I was researching the
story this morning. And this was back over the summer.
They actually rolled out on the National Mall and DC
back over the summer, a test of autonomous lawnmowers AI lawnmowers. Okay,
I'm all for that. Yeah, I'm good. I'm good with
that one. Okay, where can I buy one? Is it
(59:45):
the big box story yet? Let's get that rolled out.
They have vacuum cleaners that work autonomously. Oh yeah, I
got one of those. I never used the room ba.
It always seems to go wherever it wants to go.
But I do like my pool cleaner. It does a
good job. There you go, it's a anonymous.
Speaker 2 (01:00:03):
You're listening to Columbia's Morning News on one oh three
point five FM on five sixty am w VOC. Once again,
here's Gary David and Christopher Thompson say twenty three.
Speaker 1 (01:00:14):
Well, it's certainly made a splash. It was a bombshell
when Marjorie Taylor Green announced the other day she was
going to resign her seat from Congress. That that's that
split happened in a hurry, didn't it. Between the Well,
it's been kind of brewing all year long between Green
and Trump. And it wasn't just the Epstein files, but
that was that was the deal. Yeah, that's what brought
(01:00:36):
to ahead.
Speaker 3 (01:00:36):
Yeah, but remember she's she won't leave until well January fifth.
Speaker 1 (01:00:43):
I guess it is so I you know, for a
lot of folks who are like, good riddance, whack job.
Speaker 3 (01:00:53):
She was a loudmouth who you know, in the end
sealed her own faith.
Speaker 1 (01:00:58):
She did do that. But practically speaking, and you brought
this up a little while ago, that all that is
brewing right now, it's gonna be hard for Mike Johnson
to keep his job as House Speaker.
Speaker 3 (01:01:11):
I mean, his grip on that job was already tenuous,
and Republicans' majority in the House is tenuous. And that's
before Marjorie Taylor Green stepped down.
Speaker 1 (01:01:20):
Right now, she's going to be around until January fifth.
But now George's got to schedule a special election. There's
going to be a downtime here, and oh what happens
in January? If if the Republicans don't figure out something
on these Obamacare extensions, you're going to be starring another
(01:01:41):
potential government shutdown right in the face at the end
of January. And with Marjorie Taylor Green and that seat
being vacated at least for a short amount of time,
the Republican you know, hold on the House gets a
lot more tenuous. I mean, right now, if the House
(01:02:07):
Speaker loses just just two Republican votes on any piece
of legislation, and if the Democrats are unified in opposition,
well then it's it's not good news. So Marjorie Taylor
Green leaving, on the face of it, it was like,
you know, wow, look at that, But you think a
little deeper, and you know that that's heat being vacated
(01:02:29):
at least for a short amount of time could cause
problems for Johnson and for Republicans. And again, particularly if
you know January one comes and goes and there's no extension.
I have to apologize here. I know I'm sounding like, man,
we got to keep these extensions like I love them
or something, these these subsidies, I don't. But I'm trying
(01:02:53):
to be practical here because you didn't do your homework
and take care of this long before the final exam
showed up. If you're the Republican Party, So that's my
issue with that. You what you can't do is be
sitting here facing another potential government shutdown and not knowing
(01:03:16):
that there are enough votes in the House of Representatives
to just sway anything and everything the Republican way. And
that's a very real possibility.
Speaker 3 (01:03:24):
Certainly, well luckily that is a heavily Republican district.
Speaker 1 (01:03:27):
Oh yeah, it's not like a Democrat's going to get
elected there, right, Yeah, but who comes in I don't know.
But I mean, any district that sends Marjorie Taylor Green
back to Congress time and time again, yeah, you don't
have to worry about them voting any liberal and that
ain't happening. She keeps saying she's not running for president.
I don't know why people keep saying she is. I mean,
come on, oh, but Sunny Hawsen over the View knows
(01:03:49):
exactly what she's doing. She said that she's going to
run for Senate. Okay, so the view said it, it
must be true.
Speaker 2 (01:03:58):
This is Columbia's Morning You with Gary David and Christopher
Thompson on one O three point five FM and five
sixty AM WVOC.
Speaker 1 (01:04:07):
It's a thirty four good to have you here for Tuesday,
November the twenty fifth. Should we be concerned? Code red? Wait?
Is that one of those activist groups? That's code pink? Sorry,
wrong color? Code red. It's a notification system. It's used
by emergency management agencies. Experienced a nationwide outage earlier this
(01:04:32):
month after a cybersecurity incident. The state's Emergency Management division
and made this announcement yesterday. I'm not sure that we
were aware of this or not, but they certainly were.
It's used by several state emergency management agencies, ours being
one of them. FEMA uses it, and I guess as
(01:04:57):
of at least yesterday, according to the reports, the Emergency
Management Division in our state is still unable to access
the system. That's not good news. So it's been out days.
Apparently the incident, the nationwide outage was well earlier this month.
(01:05:22):
Was that November one? Was that November twenty third? That
they're not specific. There is a backup plan. Thankfully that
they're able to use what is it walkie talkies? Oh,
it seemed one better than Dixie cups and string. Now
it's they have another alert system as an alter so
(01:05:44):
good thinking on that one. But at least for a well,
if it weren't for the backup system, and we are
at least the calendar says still in a hurricane season
for a couple more days. True, this could have been disastrous,
but the point is is that this happens way too often,
(01:06:07):
doesn't it. And again, this was as they're terming it,
a cyber security incident.
Speaker 3 (01:06:14):
That's scary on the face of it, because there are
probably so many people us included, who had no idea
the system existed.
Speaker 1 (01:06:21):
I mean, somebody did.
Speaker 3 (01:06:22):
It's probably just you know, inside or info among these
various state emergency systems. But somebody got that information and
then found out how to hack it right, and at.
Speaker 1 (01:06:33):
Least according to this account, as of yesterday, they were
still unable to access it. Seems like a priority to me.
Somebody somewhere, get a twelve year old, they'll figure it out.
Speaker 3 (01:06:46):
How to get it back online. Well, usually there's some
type of ransom involved.
Speaker 1 (01:06:51):
Well, then there's that luckily it didn't cause us any problems,
but it sure could have. Or is this one of
these hey, look what we can do kind of things.
Do we get at a time of the year when
you're not that terribly concerned about widespread emergencies in state
like South Carota or any any state using this system?
Speaker 3 (01:07:11):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:07:12):
Yeah, we'll roll it again next September October when things
can be getting dicey around your spot. Scary stuff, man,
and it happens with alarming frequency, does it not? The
hits keep coming. We've been talking about health insurance. What
about your homeowners insurance? What are we looking at down
(01:07:33):
the road there? We'll get to it coming up next
on the Tuesday edition of Columbia's Morning News. Plus.
Speaker 2 (01:07:41):
You're listening to Columbia's Morning News on one oh three
point five FM and five sixty am WVOC. Once again,
here's Gary David and Christopher Toomas say.
Speaker 1 (01:07:52):
Forty two good morning, and I good to have you.
On Tuesday, November the twenty fifth, we should probably take
a moment to explaining what's going on around here. You
may have noticed. Any other time of the day, you
might not have noticed, but this time of the day,
you probably did because you're used to a certain routine,
as are we, and uh, you know, maybe you're a
(01:08:13):
lot of people do this. You know, you listen to
your your favorite radio program, and you know that when
they get to this spot, you better be at that
spot or are you gonna be late.
Speaker 3 (01:08:25):
Or in the shower or having breakfast or rolling out
of the driveway.
Speaker 1 (01:08:28):
Right if I've talked to people who told me, yeah,
you know, our alarm goes off every morning at six fifteen,
so the kid's pleasure of allegiance, Well, now that kid's
pledge of alliance is happening at six o three, So we
either set your alarm earlier or you're going to miss it.
But no, we we've we've made some tweaks to the
way we as we call them business our clock. I
(01:08:51):
don't only get deep into weeds on this. Okay, we've
been doing things the same way for a long time.
But it's change and it's changed for very good reason
because next Monday, this radio program we'll become South Carolina's
morning news and starting off by launching in the Charleston
market next Monday on our sister station ninety four three
wsc SO. You're gonna hear us talking about you know
(01:09:13):
one O three point five FM and five sixty amwvoc
A ninety four point three or ninety four three Charleston WSC.
You know what, same show, same program, same guys, same guys. Yeah,
same old guys here. Okay, none of that's changed, same focus,
same topics, same ideologies, same hopefully, it's just you know,
(01:09:35):
this is just the logical thing, right, I try to
be logical. We're adding a few friends. Yeah, we're adding
some friends in the low Country, which might be a
shock to a few of them. I don't know, but
we'll find out, I guess. But so that's that's what's
going on with the program. And let us take a
(01:09:56):
moment and and thank you for your loyal listening for
for all these years. I've talked to people who have
been with us as long as this show has been
on the radio, which is almost twenty five years.
Speaker 3 (01:10:10):
And if we didn't have such a loyal audience, we
wouldn't have been invited to expand we would.
Speaker 1 (01:10:15):
Have been kicked out a long time ago. True, we'd
have made it maybe a year or two. That would
have been This is a fickle business. It certainly is that.
So we have we have you to thank for your
support over the years, and you're listening to the program.
And as we've always said, I mean, you know, we're
just like family. You know, we have never we maybe
probably probably have never met face to face, probably never will.
(01:10:38):
But I hear from new folks all the time who
email us, leave us talkbacks on the iHeartRadio app and
and know many of you feel the same. So so
we thank you for that. We are truly, truly appreciative.
I'll be sixty seven years old in June. You believe
(01:10:59):
that that happen. I don't know you were in your
forties when we started. I was a late bloomer in
this format, yeah I was. But I can remember when
I got into this business, maybe my first buck and
commercial radio, I was twenty four to twenty five years old,
and I thought I'll never make it past forty, because
that's just the way this business operates. Right now here
we are all these years later, and somehow we've survived
(01:11:23):
and we've prospered, and we just we we got nobody
to thank about you for that, So thank you. We
are grateful and looking forward to making some friends in Charleston.
Just bring them into the family. We're all family around here.
That's the way we look at it, that's the way
we feel. Honestly, we are all family. Oh, I didn't
tell you about the homeowners insurance thing that I always
going to tell you about. Yes, it's not just health insurance,
(01:11:47):
which we spent all our time talking about. But now
we're that we're in the coming months is going to
see a shift homeowners insurance premiums over the next two
years could jump into the sixteen percent.
Speaker 3 (01:12:01):
Wow, we can't catch a break here. Well, the value
of our home has gone up, so that makes sense.
Speaker 1 (01:12:09):
Yeah, I guess. And yeah, because if you have if
you had full replacement policy, it's going to cost more
to rebuild it, right, that's part of the problem that
And well the upticket natural disaster is being blamed for
this too. So twenty twenty six, we're getting ready to
turn the calendar here, expect home insurance race to go
have eight percent. Twenty twenty seven, another eight percent. This
(01:12:30):
from a real estate analytics firm, Totality.
Speaker 3 (01:12:38):
All right, and what's the story you had a couple
of days ago about you know how old we are
now before we buy our first home forty years old.
This just makes it harder for those twenty and thirty
somethings to afford one.
Speaker 1 (01:12:49):
That much more difficult. You got that right, So this
is a cheery thought for the next couple of years.
Look for those rates to go up to We can't
catch a break.
Speaker 2 (01:13:02):
This is Columbia's Morning News with Gary David and Christopher
Thompson on one O three point five FM and five
sixty AM w VOC fifty two.
Speaker 1 (01:13:11):
Again the big three stories of the morning. The indicatments
get tossed out against James Comeby and Letitia James, and
they get tossed out by a federal judge right here
in South Carolina. That top story coming out of yesterday
again on a technicality saying that the well the prosecutor,
the interim prosecutor, was illegally appointed. And part of that
(01:13:33):
is because the Democrats wanted to approve the Trump picks
the nominees for positions like that. But still this one
was riddled with issues that seemed like from mcghet go
and that prosecutor Lindsay Halligan an individual who might be
a really good lawyer, but this is the first case
she's ever prosecuted. Wow, we taught healthcare Republicans and the
(01:13:58):
White House seem to have a plant. Well, the White
House has a plan, but suddenly some Republicans are starting
to question it because they're concerned that states can still
use federal dollars to pay for abortions. And is Trump
addressing that in his ideas. He hasn't rolled it out yet,
but it sounds all like the Hope Act, the to
year extension on these enhanced subsidies. So maybe it'll roll
(01:14:19):
out today or tomorrow, maybe at a time when well,
the approval numbers for Trump are down fifteen points since March.
And if this doesn't get something doesn't get done here,
it's going to be worse. Our final thoughts Sean Duffy
on the day yesterday, the day before today, as they're
telling us, busiest day travel day of the season right
(01:14:42):
now in the airports, we've seen some delays in some cancelations,
just a few, but that's weather related. But Duffy with
a message please. He encourage you to say, please, thank
your pilots, thank your flight attendants, and dress with some respect.
The Transportation Secretary asking people to stop wearing pajamas on planes, Okay,
(01:15:11):
Oh it happens. Oh, I know it doesn't bother me.
I wouldn't do it, but I can tell you what
I get on a plane. I'm gonna be comfortable. Man.
How about stop wearing pajamas and grocery stores so that
I could? I could, I could, I could be be
all in with with that one.
Speaker 3 (01:15:29):
Well, I think I think we behaved a little better
on planes when we dressed a little bit more appropriately.
Speaker 1 (01:15:34):
Well, now, you know, back in the day, people, you know,
it was a it was a it was a social event, man,
it really was. People would would be, you know, wearing
all sorts of fancy stuff getting on a plane. Not anymore.
And the Woodbridge, Virginia story of a car towed twice
in fifteen days before anybody noticed there was a dead
(01:15:56):
body in the back seat in a back seat. Wow,
it's gonna wrap it up for us. Thanks so much
for joining us. Back at it in the morning. We'll
see you in for Columbia's morning news.
