Speaker 1 (00:01):
Ellesus hell for formation.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
From This is Columbia's Morning News with Gary David and
Christopher Thompson on one O three point five FM and
five sixty AM w VOC.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
And if you head out this morning and feel like
your head's in a fog, yeah, missus teller's mentioned it
is and it is thick. It is pea soup thick baby.
Good morning and welcome to Friday. At least we got
that working for us. It's Friday, sixteen after six. I
am Gary David. He is Christopher Thompson. Good morning to you,
and it's a bomby sixty degrees heard the radio range
(00:50):
start the day office morning man, Wow, short short sleeves,
November twenty First, are you kidding me? What anyway? Well,
it's good to have you here. You appreciate it. We've
got a lot of bruin here on a Friday morning.
My goodness, the stack is large. Friends. We'll start with
this is ice in Colombia. Well you knows about the
(01:13):
road and Charlotte. Now for us. Since last Saturday, now
there are people saying there have been ice agents spotted
here in Coola Town. Could be just rumors, could be Yeah,
a lot of what I'm seeing being reported is coming
from a community activist trying to stir things up. Aha.
(01:34):
Ivan Sigura, community activist here in Columbia confirming to the
state paper that his nonprofit group has gotten nearly thirty
calls related to ICE operations, but was only able to
verify one claimed a confirm spotting off of Too Nuch
Road on Wednesday. Okay, Now, this same activist goes on
(01:58):
to say, we know that ice has been at Columbia months.
That's not new. It's not out of the norm for
what we've seen other than the last few months. So
it is is ice in Colombia. You know, It's not
like they make a secret out of it. If they are,
I mean, this is this is usually comes with great fanfare.
I mean, come on, they give it an operation name
(02:19):
and everything. So I don't know. I don't know about that,
but I guess I wouldn't be so Columbia, Lexington County.
Maybe I could see, you know, some parts of Lexington County.
I think I even saw something where somebody said there
was a some my S agents out of the Scout
plant over in blythewood Scout motors said they were unaware. Yeah,
(02:44):
I Actually, I was up in a rock hill the
other day. First time I've been up a but seventy
seven that way a little while. Have you have you
been up that way? They have They have cleared like
a whole county to build that during scout plany man,
that is whoa. That is going to be one large facility.
It's a different look from the inner State, no doubt. Yes,
it is meantime turmoil and shaping. And it has been
(03:05):
since the election. Remember when the newly elected mayor decided
to walk in and take over on day one, This
after the former mayor, who was also running for reelection,
passed away a couple of weeks before the election. Well,
now Bill Mitchell, the newly elected mayor, is under investigation
(03:31):
from sled Hmm. Where it is that Chapin police asks
Slid to open investigation for an alleged incident that happened
earlier in the day. The same day he walked into
city Hall and said, you got to you gotta swear
me in right now. We don't know what this is
all about. I guess we'll find out.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
Not a good way to start an administration.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
No it's not. It's not Chapin Town Council holding especially
called meeting yesterday to discuss what they were calling allegations
of criminal misconduct, legal claims, and personnel matters. Okay, well
we'll wait and see. It really is the least of
his worries. But no great surprise that disgraced former state
(04:20):
lawmaker RJ. May has now been charged with three counts
of failing to file and pay state individual income taxes
while a member of the legislature.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
Just makes us think he's a bigger scumbag than he is.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
Yeah, let's face it, he's a huge scumback. But we
kind of knew that he had not been paying his taxes.
Now it's official with these charges. And again, those charges
are the least of the disgraced R. J. May's worries.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
A plague on society and now a drain on society.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
And serving as a member of the state House and
not paying your taxes. How about that. That's a fine
example to say.
Speaker 4 (04:56):
You almost wonder if he knew his life was about
to implode and you just forget.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
It, right, Yeah, just grabbing all he could, I guess.
Lexington County Council earlier this week, voting to put off
a planned referendum that would have asked voters to approve
another penny sales tax. That's been put on hold, at
least for now. Apparently they're still looking at what those
(05:21):
road needs might be before they decide to go further.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
Well, the county is doing a study on that right now.
They don't have the results yet, but that's that's going
to be their biggest selling point. You're not going to
sell people on paying more if you're talking about projects
and improvements. You're going to sell them on the roads exactly.
And let's face it, we know what that study is
(05:45):
going to show.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
We already know. Yeah, they're just waiting for verification. I
guess meantime, the county thinking about loosening up clear cutting restrictions.
Please don't do that. Okay, allow this scout plant in Blathewood,
Please don't do that. Please some knockdown everything as far
as the eye can see. But they're at least thinking
about him. Well, okay, James Cliburn opposing an IRS move
(06:09):
that would allow political activity in churches. Don't wait a minute.
Is there any more hotbed of political activity than in
the Black church? That's right now, I know we're talking
about IRS and taxes and such. But come on, man,
anyhow fit snows reporting. They got sources telling them to well,
(06:30):
get ready for another viral airport video coming out from
Nancy Mace. Oh boy, this time apparently some footage they
claim of Mesa berating well, a citizen, and this was
one who questioned her push to ban biological men from
women's restrooms. All right, well, this is no great surprise,
(06:51):
I don't guess. But don't forget this too. At one
time Nancy Mace was in support of all that. Before
she wasn't. All right, so Ice in Columbia, well, we
don't know, but how about in Charlotte? Is border patrol
still there? The sheriff says that Operation Operation Charlotte Web's
come to an end. Homeland Security says, no, we're still there.
We're we're still working. I don't know which one is
(07:15):
the truth, but I guess we'll find out too. Been
several hundred arrests, of course, in Charlotte. Trump yesterday accusing
the about a half dozen, well exactly a half dozen
Democrat lawmakers of sedition punishable by death.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
Okay, let's let's face facts. What they what they did
was stupid video. They put out was stupid. And this
was in case you missed the story, and I'm sure
you didn't, but just in case. This was these six
Democrats with military and intelligence backgrounds who put out a
video urging current military and intelligence members to not follow
(07:52):
what they called, you know, unlawful actions by the president,
unlawful orders. But the President could have ended his truth
social statement with sedition and not added punishable by it.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
Yeah, keep it as sedition. That's you know.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
Charlie Kirk is not that far in the review, Myriet,
And we've talked about the rhetoric. Now it's ramped up
and grown more and more violent. This doesn't help.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
Yeah, Needless to say, the Democrats are not happy with
his truth social statements. Not even John Foune we'll back
him on this one, at least not when it comes
to the death penalties. So yeah, that's that's the Trump
being Trump thing right there. Meantime, Republican senators warning Pam
Bondi not to slow walk the release of the Epstein files.
(08:36):
One former US attorney says what I've been saying all along,
that when these come out, the public will be disappointed, underwhelmed. Yeah, yeah,
nothing Burger with cheese, maybe even a double nothing burger
this time. But we'll find out here soon. And oh boy,
you know all this talk about, you know, Lindsey Graham
being the only Senator to accept or to say he
(08:57):
would sue the government for a five hundred thousand or
more over his phone records being tapped into by the
DOJ under Joe Biden. Well, now we found out that
Biden's Justice Department subpoenaed more than two years of the
phone records of one Jim Jordan, without Jordan apparently knowing
about it. Uh, expect to hear a lot more from
the Ohio congressman on that he's not one to mince words.
(09:22):
All right, friends, we got that more coming your way
here on this It is the Friday edition of Columbia's
Morning News, and it's good to have you with us.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Dumbfest king Cock coverage powered by uniquely Southern cheerwine Game
Days on one O three point five FM and five
sixty am w VOC. This is Columbia's Morning News with
Gary David and Christopher Thompson on one O three point
five FM and five sixty am w VOC.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Good morning, Waking up to a Friday, the twenty first
of November, six days away from Thanksgiving Day, at a
six forty one. Good morning, and good to have you along.
All right. The President doubling down again on this just
a couple of days ago, that he is going to
be cutting checks of at least he said, two thousand
dollars at least for low and middle income modern income folks.
(10:16):
All right, this is the uh, well, some are looking
at this, myself included, okay, as a bit of a
you know, financial incentive here. Remember it's not these checks.
If it ever happens, it doesn't happen right now. It
happens next year, before the midterms, at some point in time.
(10:38):
But there are a growing number of Republicans who are saying, yeah, no,
this is not a good idea. Among them, just an
north of US Ted budd Up in North Carolina, Tommy
Turberville from Alabama, and others are well said, you know,
we need to focus more on paying down this national.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
Debt, not to mention what it will do to the
economy and how inflationary this move could be.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
Remember, this is what got us in trouble last time around,
all those uh those of those those pandemic checks, and
Trump did did one or two of those Biden did,
and Biden died him long after we didn't need him anymore.
But yeah, I mean that's that brought on that sky
high inflation that we dealt with. There.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
There are some of the most loyal MAGA groups who
have said, this is a huge mistake.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
I tell you this is this is getting very interesting
to watch. And it's not just on this topic. This
rift between the MAGA faithful and Trump on a on
a number of issues right now is really getting the
attention of folks. Yeah, are we're what now thirty eight
(11:57):
plus trillion in the whole. Just in the last fiscal year,
we added nearly two trillion dollars to that numbers. I mean,
come on.
Speaker 4 (12:07):
And I know there are some Trump friendly economists out
there who say that doesn't matter, that no one pays attention,
but they do. I mean, we've seen it before. Yeah,
this impacts Wall Street, This impacts the world economy.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Our credit rating, everything else. I mean you name it. Yeah.
I well, not as if if we don't do this,
we'll be able to make a sizable hole in the
in our nation's debt, because that's not the truth. But still,
why do this when you can do that. Okay, somebody
(12:46):
helped me understand here, this whole Comby indictment on the
Rocks thing here, when you had just a couple of
days ago. Lindsay Halligan, who is the judge appointed by
Trump overseeing this case, say that the full grand jury
(13:11):
never did get to review the final indictment of James Comy,
and it looked like this whole case against Kombe was
going to fall apart flat on his face. That was
Wednesday yesterday, though same judge reversed his course and now
says the full panel did vet the changes. Well, which
(13:31):
is it? So Coby's lawyers, needless to say, are trying
to get the case thrown out for the way the
dj handled the prosecution. This goes back to Komy being
indicted on charges of allegedly lying to Congress and testimony
five years ago. So what happened between Wednesday and Thursday
(13:55):
were a judge changed their minds so drastically on this Yesterday,
a five page court filing titled Government's Notice Correcting the
Record was released. In it, Holligann explains the differing comments
as a clerical inconsistency. Yeah, okay, you know you would
(14:23):
would would would hope that we unfortunately we know better,
you'd hope that our nation's judicial system is a little
bit better buttoned up than this, and especially on a
case of this magnitude. Well, she's changed her changed her
tune on it, and so yeah, I don't know where
it goes from here. Okay, And today's today, Zoe ran Mom, Donnie,
(14:53):
the mayor elect of New York City heads to the
White House. Now, for the record, this is a meeting
that Mondami's people asked for, all right, Trump. Trump didn't
reach out to Mom Dommy and say, hey, you know,
come by for lunch. This was Mondami reaching out to
Trump warning to have us sit down. Now. Obviously, Uh,
(15:19):
there's bad blood between the two. A lot of things
have been said back and forth between the two. Mondamie
is saying that he wants to reach out work with
Trump regardless of all the things he said about Trump
on the campaign trail, because quite honestly, I mean, he
needs them, right.
Speaker 5 (15:39):
The rhetoric ends once the rubber meets the road, once
reality sets in. Before this meeting yesterday, Caroline Levitt said
that the election of Mondamie speaks volumes about the state
of the Democrat part already.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
Now she's not wrong. Nope, Nope, she's not. And she
did not mince words. It speaks volumes that tomorrow we
have a communist coming to the White House, because that too,
the Democrat Party elected as mayor of the largest city
of the country. Trump has called him a communist on
a number of occasions. By the way, so have I,
(16:20):
and I really believe that he is. But she says,
this meeting shows that Trump's wanting to meet with anybody,
talk to anybody, and try to do what's right on
behalf of the American people, no matter where they live.
So this is going to be I don't know, Twill
if you said yesterday you thought they would, you know, well,
(16:41):
had you come out all smiles or will be all smiles?
I don't think it's gonna be any smiles here. I
don't think we're going to see that. Oh. I think
we'll see the now infamous Mondamie's smile being flashed going in.
I don't think we'll see it coming out.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
You don't see this as being a friendly meeting.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
I really don't, and I don't know that it means
anything quite honestly. You know, well, I mean they both
need each other. I mean it's you know, Mamdannie certainly
needs the federal government.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
Huh.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
And you know, as.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
We've said, it's it's it's the show place, it's the
capital when it comes to finance.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
It's It's true.
Speaker 4 (17:19):
I mean, it's the place people look to first outside
of America and think, Okay, what's America like, Well, there's
New York City.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
It is the capitalist center of the entire planet. Yeah,
the entire planet. Yeah, they both need each other, tould agree.
But Mondami meets Trump needs Trump a whole lot more
than Trump needs Mandami. I'm sure Trump would like nothing
better than see this guy fall flat on his face.
And I think that he will.
Speaker 4 (17:46):
Well, he won't need Trump's help to do that.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
No, he will not need Trump's help to do that.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
All he has to do is enact some of the
programs that he's touting.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Just just just just do what you said you were
going to do, and uh, the chips will fall and
it ain't gonna be pretty that meeting today. Can't wait
to see what comes out of that one.
Speaker 6 (18:05):
Now, more of Colombia's Morning News with Gary David and
Christopher Thompson right here. On one O three point five
FM and five sixty AM w VOC.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
Like Sean, it's fifteen after seven o'clock, it's Friday. No,
remember the twenty first, and is ICE in Cola? So
multiple outlets reporting well again, not reporting that ICE is
in Columbia, but basically writing stories about well. A local
(18:39):
community activist claiming that he's had phone calls from folks
saying that ICE is in Columbia. Would it surprise you terribly?
I mean, I.
Speaker 4 (18:47):
Wouldn't be a surprise, but that's no confirmation.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
No, not at all. A spokesperson from DHS telling ISTV
that ICE conducts enforcement operations across South Carolina daily, but
wouldn't provide any specifics as to any recent increased activity
here in our area if they asked around Richland County
(19:15):
Sheriff's Department, Leasing County Sheriff's Department, Columbia City Police, Chafing Police,
and in each case they were told that these departments
were unaware of any increased ICE presence in their areas.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
I mean, we see community activists do this all the
time as a scare tactic. You need to pay attention
to me and what I'm saying, and I'll get you
out of this GM.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
Just listen and support me. Yeah, and said community activists
god by name of Ivan Segura, who told the state
paper that his nonprofit group has received nearly thirty phone
calls related to ICE operations, but claim they were able
to verify just one. And again they claimed confirmed sighting
(20:03):
off of two Nights Road on Wednesday. I don't know
how they knew to to confront whatever, a spokesperson for
the Commission of Minority Affairs telling the state paper that
they're abvious had not received any calls related to ICE
arrest or spontings. Okay, so is there anything to this
story or not? Or is it again just a community
(20:25):
activist drawing attention, Because let's face the ices and border
patrols just up the road in Charlotte and have been
now since last Saturday. They've been pretty successful and taking
some bad people off the streets.
Speaker 4 (20:36):
And they've also stirred up the community there. So if
you're Ivan Sagura or an activist down here, what do
you think, Well, what's a better time. Let's bring some
of that emotion down here and maybe we can use it.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
Yeah. Now, between community activists like this individual and social
media forget it, multiple unfaded, in other words, without evidence.
Social media reports a post rather claiming that ICE agents
(21:09):
were spotted work at work sites in Blythwood at northeast Columbia.
The workers were fleeing again unverified. Scout Motors was contacted
and said, I don't know where if any activity there
at their site. Again, typically if ICE wants to come
in and make a big splash, they come in and
make a big splash. They give it a name like
(21:31):
Operation Charlott's Webb and they come in. They're not hiding
this thing. So yeah, again, there have been DHS operations. Well,
we had the big one down in the low Country.
Was that earlier this year or late last year? I
(21:52):
think earlier this year. I don't have times flying by
so fast that that nightclub Unlicens Nightclub Ladston, I think
it was in the low Country. Yeah, yeah, where they
busted a whole bunch of people, including a bunch of
underaged individuals, you know, like middle of the night, you know,
(22:12):
alleged cartel activity and everything else. There were plenty of
Feds involved in that, so it's you know, we've we've
had federal operations to state before when it comes to
you know, illegal immigrant status and such. But far as
we know right now, there's no uh definite influx of
ICE agents into this area. But again, yeah, hey, it
(22:36):
could happen. There are let's face I mean there there
are parts of Leston County where you know pretty much
every migrant worker over there. Well, it's just that a
migrant worker, you know, work in these farms and such.
But they're not They're going after the worst of the worst.
They're not coming in and sweeping up everyone off the street.
We met.
Speaker 4 (22:52):
Not They're not afraid not I know that, but I
keep hearing that they are. Well who are you hearing
that from?
Speaker 3 (22:57):
Oh I don't know, you know, the mainstream a Democrat
party of social media? You mean I can't trust any
of that. Sorry, Oh wow, I got to rethink my
thinking here. I guess no, exactly. There's coldest to get
the get the bad people off the streets and people who,
by the way, have had prior detainers in most cases. Now,
(23:20):
is there a collateral damage sometimes, Yeah, that's happened.
Speaker 4 (23:23):
Yeah, some of these bad people have families, uh huh
who are And some of them are bad people too, Yeah, true,
some are unwitting participants. But it's sure that's what happens.
Speaker 5 (23:34):
Now.
Speaker 3 (23:34):
Up of the Upstate, you have the Hispanic Alliance sc
putting out a statement. The group says that while no
ice activity has been confirmed in Greenville, it's important to
stay informed, have a family plan, and not spread unverified information. Well,
thank you for that last little part of the statement. Yeah,
that's great. Don't spread unverified information. Matter of fact, I
(24:01):
don't know if you noticed today or not, mister Thompson.
On the the State newspaper website, they posted this story
in English and in espaniol. They know their audience. It's
I mean, if you are, did I have to press
one to get the English version? No, it was there.
Speaker 4 (24:20):
If you're if you've been living here a long time illegally,
I mean, I understand how there's a level of comfort
that comes from just day to day, but you still,
I mean, I can't imagine there's ever a day where
you're completely comfortable. I think not where you you know,
(24:43):
you feel completely secure. You're probably always looking over your shoulder.
And you go back to the Charlotte situation. And you know,
we mentioned the other day it was like one in
five kids didn't show up to class the other day.
Speaker 3 (24:59):
You know what's responsible. This is not to say that
that that one in five kids are here. Well maybe
they're here illegally, but they're not the people with detainers
that ICE is looking for. Maybe somebody in their family is.
But but really that that stems from again this this
this notion that is being spread by the media and
the left that hey, man, if you're a Hispanic, they're
(25:19):
gonna nab you and you're gonna be disappeared.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Man.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
The hysteria. Yeah, that's where all that stems from.
Speaker 4 (25:28):
Because that hysteria will be good in the next election.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
Exactly. That's that that that's for. That's there for one
thing again to score political points. Now, the efforts up
in Charlotte, Uh, the associated press reporting appear to be
tapering off. Yesterday the sheriff went as far I remember
(25:51):
in Charlotte, the sheriff instructed, uh, the share the officers
not to get in the way, but not to help
out either. Okay, Well, the sheriff yesterday said the operation
had ended, and I saw multiple reports that the operation
Charlotte was over. But Homeland Security says, not so fast,
(26:13):
my friend, that they are still in the city and
a spokesperson for DHS saying the operation is not over
and it's not ending any time soon. So Operation Charlotte's
Web continues, and there have been several hundred people that
have been arrested. And again, Charlotte and North Carolina, what
(26:36):
was the number of some fourteen hundred ice detainers that
had been issued had been ignored by that city and
by that state. You're ignored, you're ignoring law enforcement activity
and goals here. And this is just where we find
(26:56):
ourselves here in twenty twenty five. You don't like it,
just ignore it. It's just the law, that's all.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
I'd say it exciting times on the Glennbeck Program.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
It's still rare for me to be excited. It's going
to be very exciting on on three.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
Point five FM and five sixty am w VOC. If
you're listening to Columbia's morning news on one oh three
point five FM on five sixty am w VOC, once again,
here's Gary David and Christopher Thompson.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
The seven Party. Good morning. Good to have you on
board for Friday, November twenty First, hey, tob if you
get an oh there you are with Okay, Sorry, I
just got an email from James, emailing Gary David at
WVOC dot com James, Good morning, James, one of our
constant listeners. We appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
So.
Speaker 3 (27:48):
I don't know if you've had if you've dealt with this,
but I had to renew my driver's license this year,
and I don't give you a physical license, just a
piece of paper with your picture and info, and then
mail you one a new one. Huh really, why is that?
Is this like a provisional license or whatever till they
check you out thoroughly or is this a cost saving
(28:09):
measure where they're not you know, I don't know. I heck,
I I think I just checked my driver's lives Is
that expired until twenty twenty seven? How long those things
are good for? Like what ten years now or eight
years or something like that. I don't look a thing
like my picture on my driver's license anymore. You've passed
that picture by I look at much better now. Oh
(28:31):
there you go. That's one of the weird things, especially
if you're younger. I think if you're younger, you got
to get it done a little more often. If you're
like a teenager, when you get your first license, see
till second is now.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
When yeah, have you aged? Oh god, yes, oh mine
expires next year.
Speaker 3 (28:50):
Oh hey it's up. Yeah. I don't know, James, first,
I've heard that anybody else. Have you ever renewed jersey
and gotten a piece of paper of your picture on it?
And that was it until they mailed you one. I
don't know what the reason is for that. Look into that.
Do you have the real ID? I do?
Speaker 4 (29:03):
Have you seen that TSA is talking about? Yeah, charging
p eighteen bucks? Yeah, you don't have real ID.
Speaker 3 (29:09):
I guess they're trying to come up to raise the
money for some sort of a verification system at the
airports or what now. I don't does that work? We've
got a passport? It says the word passport. Okay, so
you got one of the others, right, because otherwise you're
not supposed to be able to get on a plane. True, okay, yeah,
so especially if you're thinking about, you know, flying next week.
In addition to everything else going on with all that,
(29:31):
if you don't have the real ID or a passport,
you're going to be slowed down and you get to
pay out a little more.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
So.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
I don't think that when we went into this last
election back earlier, this month. We we thought that we'd
be getting controversy out of this place. Now we knew
going in that the mayor of Chapin who was running
for re election al Coon. You know, like one day
we were told, okay, he's in hospice care. The next
day we're told he had passed. Well, he was still
(30:01):
on the ballot. Of course, it was that close to
the election. And then there was some controversy because you
had I guess some of the family members who wanted
a writing campaign for it was his deputy mayor, I
think it was. That caused some consternation and ultimately Bill
Mitchell was elected as mayor. Okay, but the fund didn't
(30:25):
stop there. Then Mitchell showed up at town hall and
said that, well you you have to install me right now,
and everyone was like do we.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
Well, I mean, that makes sense on the face of it,
you want the town to have leadership, but there was
a mayor pro tem with the mayor pro tem already there. Yeah,
so you know, I'm not sure what the rush was there.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
Well, he's he's hit the ground running, you know, with
some things he's done and wants to do well.
Speaker 4 (31:02):
Things he promised on the campaign trail that he would do,
so it shouldn't be a big surprise.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
But the fund doesn't stop there apparently now. Slid says
that they were asked by the chap And police to
open up an investigation into Mitchell for an alleged incident
that occurred that very same day at the town hall.
(31:32):
All we know is the town of Chapin has held
a specially called meeting yesterday to talk about what they
were termed allegations of criminal misconduct, legal claims, and personnel matters. Okay,
(31:53):
keep an eye on that. Mitchell says he thinks the
truth will come out, truth about what we don't know exactly,
So a little town of Chapin gets into the the
government controversy. I thought we were saving that just for Casey.
Speaker 4 (32:08):
And if it's proven that he did do something wrong,
what happens then, right he's the newly elected mayor.
Speaker 1 (32:18):
Huh.
Speaker 3 (32:19):
Okay, well, we'll keep you posting r J. May back
of the news. I'm sorry, we'll rephrase that the disgrace
to r J. May. There's a rule now you have
to put that word before his name. Absolutely and rightfully so,
now charged with three counts of not filing and not
paying state individual income tax three straight years while serving
(32:42):
as a member of the legislature.
Speaker 4 (32:45):
Yes, I mentioned this earlier. You have to wonder. I
know there are people that don't pay their taxes every
day who have nothing to do with child porn. But
I wonder if he knew he was living on borrowed
time and he just decided, Okay, well, if if I'm
eventually going down, if I'm eventually going to get caught,
then why bother doing you know, trivial things like paying taxes.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
Well maybe so, but at the same time, someoney's got
to pay that. He made a lot of financial moves
before his eventual arrest to you know, take assets and
move him out of his name to his wife's name.
Speaker 4 (33:25):
It looked like just one more thing for his family
to have to deal with all outside.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
So fourteen thousand dollars in state income tax owed from
tax yars twenty twenty two to twenty twenty four, certainly
these are the least of his concerns right now than
the fact that, Yeah, I'm guessing the family's going to
have to come up with a fourteen K, right, I
guess that's how anyway, But listen, this is not really
new News. We had been told there were multiple reports
(33:52):
he hadn't been filing income taxes and his business wasn't either,
nor was the business. Yeah, okay, and Nancy Mayce news
Fitz News saying they've got sources. I haven't got to
copy the video yet, but apparently it's coming. Another encounter
with Nancy Mace at an airport. This one kind of
(34:16):
more of the lines of the encounter she had at
the beauty supply store a while back with the customer
in the store. According to witnesses, there's a video out there.
This happened matter of a year ago today. I don't
know why it's just now, but anyway, well I know why,
(34:37):
because you know, this is the big newsman based this
is what she does at airports. According to a witness,
Mace tore into a constituent who questioned her push to
ban biological men from women's bathrooms. Said constituent of female
reportedly approached the congresswoman, introduced herself as a Charleston resid Well,
(35:01):
her friend filmed the exchange. Always this was a set up,
but still.
Speaker 4 (35:07):
She's an easy target because, yeah, you know you're going
to get a response out of her.
Speaker 3 (35:15):
Uh. This apparently did not happen to the Charleston Airport
but at the Reagan International So the constituent probably wasn't
a constitution. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (35:27):
I was going to say, was it really one of
her voters or not?
Speaker 5 (35:29):
Right?
Speaker 3 (35:30):
Yeah? So yeah, again this is this this all right?
This one is not on the same level as the
last one with the airport security of the TSA and members
of the of the airline. But anyway, it's just who
was it dumb? Oh? What was her name? Kathleen, I'm
(35:52):
searching for it here? The op ed writer for the
Washington Post, Kathleen Parker. She had an op ad her
or this week. I haven't seen the whole thing, just
kind of the headline, which was that Mace is not
ready to be South Calin's governor.
Speaker 4 (36:08):
Kathleen Parker's from South Carolina. She writes about South Carolina
a lot. Yeah, that's right, she is.
Speaker 3 (36:13):
Yeah, yeah, she She's one of them, of many who
feel that way.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
This is Columbia's Morning News with Gary David and Christopher
Thompson on one O three point five FM and five
sixty AM w VOC.
Speaker 3 (36:33):
Thanksgeving. Forecast does look pretty good looking ahead, mostly Sunday
high around sixty three or so. Not bad, not bad morning.
It's fifteen after eight. Thanks for joining us this morning.
We appreciate it. I'm Gary David. He is Christopher Thompson.
Speaker 4 (36:46):
The last thing you want to do is be cooped
up with no chance to get outside on Thanksgiving. When
you get all those people in the house, you get
a stove that's working over.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
Suddenly it gets a little hot. Done. Yeah. I was
emailing a friend yesterday said what are your plans for Thanksgiving?
I said, well, we're hosting a family, so you know
what that means. We're cooking, we're eating, we're cleaning. Yeah,
and then I'll fall asleep on the on the couch
watching some NFL football game. More than likely, it never fails.
It's the same scenario every year. It's your Thanksgiving tradition.
(37:18):
It is. I blame it on the trip to fan
of the Turkey, and with a medical background, even is
not buying that. I've been trying to settle that for
a long time now.
Speaker 4 (37:29):
Well, it would help if you didn't do that every
other day, even when you haven't consumed turky.
Speaker 3 (37:33):
Well, then there's that. Yeah, but the ungodly are we
have to wake up right, yeah, yeah, I know, you do. Okay,
the big news of the week, of course, has been
after last week it was you know, government shut down ending,
and then predictably, as we knew it would happen, that
the big news this week was all about the Epstein stuff.
(37:57):
And my how that narrative changed from the end of
last week to the beginning of this week. And it
just took Trump saying, hey, there's nothing there about me,
go ahead, let's let's get this thing out there. And
then we saw something that I'm maybe aside from a
declaration of war against Japan back in the back in
(38:18):
the day, I don't know we ever had a vote
that was this lopsided. I'm sure we probably have, but
you know, when combined the House and the Senate passed
this thing with only one person voting no to get
the files out there.
Speaker 4 (38:33):
I think the votes after nine to eleven, that's the
most recent that I think about that. Yeah, where there
was just you know, unanimous points of view.
Speaker 3 (38:42):
Yep, yep. How could I forgotten that one? Uh?
Speaker 5 (38:44):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (38:45):
Well, now you've got Republican senators who are warning Pam
BONDI don't slow walk this thing. Maybe she's already stepped
in this once. She stepped in it back. It was
back in January, wasn't it. Oh big dump coming, Yeah,
you know, here it comes.
Speaker 4 (39:00):
And they even invited influencers into the White House and said, here,
take a look at what we've got.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
Here it is, and they were all excited, and they
walked out and looked at what they got. And so
we already have this. So Bondi, under immense pressure, don't
make the same mistake again. I'm not sure it's up
to Pam Bondi honesty, goodness.
Speaker 4 (39:22):
But she's not going through and redacting names and making
sure that no, no, no, I mean that's going to
be the lawyers who are handling that.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
Yeah. Well, the Republican senators, a number of them now
are warning her, don't slow walk this thing. Let's get
it out as quickly as possible. Bondi said Wednesday that
quote unquote, new information obtained by investigators had spurred the
(39:52):
Justice Department to reverse its earlier decision to close investigations.
Oh oh, here's how it goes. Remember two things in
this bill that would prevent the release of who knows
how much stuff. Number one, the bill specifically states release
all unclassified material and then no release of anything that's
(40:18):
currently under investigation, and lo and behold it comes bonding
on Wednesday, saying well, yeah, we've gotten new information now
and we're not going to close investigations. Okay, you see
what's coming here, right. Democrats warned that new investigations into
(40:42):
people like former President Clinton and former Treasury Secretary of
Somers could be cited as a justification to withhold documents
or videos of Epstein's mansion in Manhattan. And you got
you know, a couple of Republican senators are saying, okay,
slow walk this thing on his spam, don't do it.
(41:04):
John P. Fishwick, Jr. Is a former US attorney. In
an interview, he said that the public will be disappointed
in what gets released so the National News desk, there's
not going to be a huge unveiling of all the
Epstein files. He says, I I don't think that at
(41:27):
the end of this thirty day period we're going to
get them get them all. We'll get some of them,
but I think a lot will not be produced. Okay.
We've been saying this since it came out, don't get
and for some people, you're like, you know, this is
get past this already. Okay, I don't care for others.
(41:50):
I mean, you're you're salivating over this, and for those
who are, you can't say we didn't warn you. This
is going to be a This is going to be
I think a big disappointment. I could be wrong.
Speaker 4 (42:03):
Well, who's I mean, who's salivating over this? Besides those
who the media timillated by any sure, any thoughts of
you know, sexual scandals involving politicians or major Hollywood figures.
Speaker 3 (42:17):
Well, who's salivating is well politicians who think there's something
in there that's going to hurt the other side.
Speaker 4 (42:25):
Yeah, okay, opposition research for twenty twenty six and beyond.
Speaker 3 (42:31):
It's not about what happened to so many young women
because of Jeffrey Epstein and who knows who, well who else.
It's not about that. It's about, hey, you know, can
we bury the other party with this thing? Those are
the ones that are really salivating. All right, So we're
(42:51):
down to now twenty eight days or so before this
has to be put out. Don't hold your breath. Trump
yesterday accusing those half a dozen Democrat lawmakers, the ones
that put out the video urging military members and members
of the intelligence community not to follow unlawful orders. Trump
(43:15):
striking back in a video posted to True Social accusing
these lawmakers of sedition.
Speaker 4 (43:25):
Stop stop stop right there.
Speaker 3 (43:28):
That would have been fine.
Speaker 4 (43:29):
All he had to do was stop with that sentence.
Speaker 3 (43:32):
But it's what came next, punishable by death at all
caps boy.
Speaker 4 (43:41):
And there's no defending that statement. And Caroline Lovitt tried
in the press room yesterday, and I thought for the
most part she failed. There is no defending that statement.
Speaker 3 (43:52):
No, I mean, you just again, you open yourself in this.
Speaker 4 (43:55):
Environment, and with the assassination of Charlie Kirk just months
go ye and all the arguing then about who was
ramping up the violent rhetoric, right.
Speaker 3 (44:09):
So that statement opening the door to people like you know,
Chucky Schumer who said that that punishable by death would
would further spark political violence against lawmakers. John Thune, Republican
Senator Senate majority later said he did not agree with
(44:31):
a suggestion they should be locked up or punished by death,
saying what those folks did was ill advised, unnecessary, and
clearly provocative. Right, But I certainly don't agree with the
President's conclusion of how we ought to handle it.
Speaker 4 (44:46):
I mean I think he was right. I think it
is sedition. I mean you were encouraging or inciting people
to break the law, rebel against the government.
Speaker 3 (44:53):
He was absolutely wrong.
Speaker 4 (44:54):
That's the absolute definition of sedition. But you don't then
suggest that we're going to start killing congressmen.
Speaker 3 (45:01):
And women hanging them with the public square. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (45:03):
No.
Speaker 1 (45:07):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (45:07):
What would have been really nice if many years ago
Trump would have had somebody close to him say, let
me just read over your post before you put him
out there.
Speaker 4 (45:15):
Okay, you know, well that would require somebody staying up
with him constantly.
Speaker 3 (45:20):
I don't think anybody can do that night. Yeah right,
so yeah, guilty of sedition absolutely, But leave it at that.
You just again, you're giving the opposition another reason to
say that you and your party are the ones that
are egging on all this this violence in this country
against politicians.
Speaker 2 (45:41):
Listen anytime when I'm going to work with the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (45:44):
I downloaded the app on my phone.
Speaker 2 (45:46):
I can listen whenever I want one on three point
five FMN five sixty AM w VOC.
Speaker 6 (45:54):
Now more of Colombia's morning news with Gary David and
Christopher Thompson right here on one O three point five
FM and five sixty AM wvoc.
Speaker 3 (46:05):
Man the thirty nine our final thoughts for Friday, November
the twenty first, Lexington County. They wanted to put it
up to the voters come the midterm elections. Stop me,
if you've heard this story before, a penny sales tax referendum.
Speaker 4 (46:23):
Well, they've tried it a couple of times.
Speaker 3 (46:27):
Wild voters in Richland County seem to be a okay
with that. Lexington County voters have not been, but they
were going to give it a try again. Let's be honest.
I mean, Lexington County, particular parts of it need a
lot of help with infrastructure. Roads in particular. Course you
live out that way or every traveler that way, you
(46:49):
darn well know it used to be Harvest and Boulevard.
Nobody wanted to go on right now. It's three seventy
eight in Lexington.
Speaker 4 (46:56):
And I think you know, in years past, they've tried
to sell this with mixture of roads and you know,
here are some other improvements you'll be paying for. And
I don't think those incentives move Lexington County taxpayer as much.
But I think I think if the focus is primarily
on roads, I think that's probably a better sell, yeah,
because everyone knows, you know, the roads have got something's
(47:19):
got to be done.
Speaker 3 (47:19):
Something well, that was supposed to be They hoped to
put that on the ballot in twenty twenty six, but
that's being put off. They put a special commission together,
it previously been put together to take a look at
the road needs and they wanted to, you know, put
this on the ballot next year. But at the same time,
(47:41):
the county is conducting their own traffic improvement study that
won't be ready until next November, just before the midterm elections,
and whatever comes out of that study would would be
too late for any of those recommendations to be in
the plan that voters would be voting on. So they're
going to put it off until twenty twenty seven, putting
(48:01):
off asking you to pay another penny. And if I
don't know, you know, the worst the traffic situation gets
in parts of Lexington County. But that's the problems. Lexington
County is a big place and are really just a
few spots where it's just ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (48:21):
And the town has already spent its fair share of
money to make certain fixes, but not all of these
choke points come within the town.
Speaker 3 (48:28):
No. No. In addition, the County of Lexington here again,
is considering it might well loosen clear cutting restrictions. Okay, please,
let's not do this. The county is already losing its charm.
(48:49):
And I know this is not at all related, but
still I drive this route every day, but I still
haven't gotten used to all the clear cutting they've done
around twenty six at Malfunction Junction. For all of that,
I'm still not sure why that was necessary.
Speaker 4 (49:04):
It's a shock to the system. I mean, you can
see things that you weren't able to see before.
Speaker 3 (49:08):
And it's been like that for a while. But yet
every day I get on that road, I'm like, wow,
this looks really weird. Anyway you think your vote doesn't
count is love palms. The incumbent mayor, Philip Pounds, will
stay mayor. They finished up counting fifteen provisional votes the
(49:28):
other day and found that Pounds was in fact the winner.
He won by one vote. One. That was it. So
don't ever think your vote doesn't count. What happened yesterday, Yeah,
we told you yesterday, Moore, we had a couple of really,
(49:48):
you know, we got some good news. Man, we had
the Nvidia earnings that came out on Wednesday that surpassed
market expectations, and we thought, you know, further putting on
off the bursting of the AI bubble. We had the
jobs report came out yesterday morning, far surpassing street expectations,
(50:12):
and it looked good for a while. Man, Wall Street
was soaring until it wasn't. We may be on the
cusp pier of you know, such such market jitters over
these tech stocks, over this this AI stuff. It doesn't
matter what happens in reality. This is a problem with
the market right So often it doesn't matter what happens
(50:34):
in reality. It's well, what are we feel like?
Speaker 4 (50:37):
They lock in on one issue.
Speaker 3 (50:38):
Yeah, the emotions get the best of traders and it
looks like well, yeah, and videos, earnings were good, jobs
were good. Oh but wait a minute, we're still a
little jittery about these tech stocks. These are these AI stocks,
this bubble bursting, so before you know it, they're when
all the games and then some Yeah, we may be
(51:01):
entering that period now where emotionless taking well, emotion always
takes over, but maybe more so than ever.
Speaker 4 (51:07):
That on the same day, a report came out that said,
we're more invested in our four o one ks than
ever before m and so many of those are tied
to markets.
Speaker 3 (51:15):
Yeah, specifically the S and P. Eric Swald Noel Swallow's moment.
Take two, Take two, Eric Swalwell announcing he's going to
run for governor California. Good good, stay out of the
rest of our business. You can't ruin that place anymore
than it already has been. That'd be just fine. You'll
(51:39):
be a protector and fighter if you're like the governor.
He says. Okay, have you seen or heard this story
a couple days back, Uh, we started hearing this. This
is an incident happened back over the summer. We're a Republican.
(51:59):
Aid was found Twenty six year old woman Natalie Green
found bound up with zip ties, numerous slashes on her body,
and the words Trump horror written on her stomach. She
was a student at Rodkers, was working for Jeff Andrew
(52:20):
at the time. Now they've come to find out all
this was just a well a Jussie smallt kind of thing,
a hoax, a hoax. She actually spent five hundred dollars
to have I don't know why these people exist, went
to a scarification studio for body modifications. Basically paid somebody
(52:42):
five hundred dollars to cut her up. What was the
I'm sorry, what were you trying to? What was the point?
Speaker 4 (52:53):
The most extreme version of influencer.
Speaker 3 (52:56):
Right, I don't know what she was trying to make,
no clue. Well, now she's in some pretty severe trouble
with the law. Good needless to say, yes, Georgia. A
campaign ad that features the likeness of a Senator John Ossoff,
raising questions now about the ethics of AI. This ad,
(53:20):
being run by Congressman Mike Collins, who's challenging him for
the seat in the midterms, features a striking likeness of
Asof speaking directors of the cameras in it. The AI
version of Asoff says, I just voted to keep the
government shut down. They say it'll hurt farmers, but I
wouldn't know. I've only seen a farm on Instagram. Okay,
(53:46):
it was not as Off. It was the AI version
of os Off.
Speaker 4 (53:51):
Yeah, but I mean, if it were his legitimate image
and they were putting words in his mouth, that would
be illegal.
Speaker 3 (53:59):
But this is not. It doesn't violate any state or
federal laws, and it does have a small disclaimer at
the bottom of the screen. But the question is now
should it be We've talked about this before. You know,
political as they can say or do pretty much anything
they want. You can't do that as a business owner
advertising your services, but politicians can. That's the law. But
(54:25):
should they be able to get away with this? And
just in time for Thanksgiving? About half of fifty turkeys
on a truck up on seventy seven in North Charlotte
yesterday well didn't survive therect but the other half did.
Small traffic for a bit. There are about fifty live
turkeys on the truck. Those that did survive were put
(54:48):
on another truck and taken to Animal Care and Control,
transferred to Carolina Waterfowl Rescue where they're being cared for
and receiving What do you think they were to begin with?
You know, they're live turkeys. The week before Thanksgiving, m
