West Michigan's Christmas Station.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
This is Starlin Oh five point seven, Good morning, Welcome
into Monday.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
It is Schmidty. The Christmas Favorites continue.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
I got to say this is a conversation I think
may have triggered a little bit of trauma. Yesterday, even
though I didn't mean for it too. We were out
at Egypt Valley Country Club. I got invited to a
brunch with some friends and part of it, very very cute,
was a project for the kids to make blankets for
the Kent County Animal Shelter. So we were in this

(00:29):
really really cool, like great room and we're making these
blankets and they had on the Santa Claus And if
you remember, at the end of the Santa Claus, Sanna
gives the parents the gifts they never received for Christmas, right,
the mom gets the Mystery Date game, the dad gets
his Weenie whistle. And so I started as the conversation
with the group of friends I was with, I'm like,
what was that gift? Because I will immediately tell you,

(00:51):
and I bring it up every year to the absolute
annoyance of my wonderful mother, who's like, I know, I
get it, you never got it. I never got a
my life size Barbie. Do you guys remember this would
have been like my nineties kids, it was my life
size Barbie.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
She was like, I don't know, four.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Foot tall, and she came with two outfit changes, all
of her hair accessories, and then she came with an
outfit you could wear and match her.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Oh. I probably asked for like.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Four straight years, and clearly to this day I'm not
fully past it.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Six one, six, four.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Five, eight, one oh five seven the Christmas gift you
never got, because we're talking about this, and it was
like one of them was she never got an American
girl doll.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
And then one of the dads we were hanging out
with was.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Like, I got it, but it was just a really
like I don't know, I think I've talked about this
in therapy, and I went, oh no. He said, I
wanted a remote control car. I wanted an RC car
really bad, and I got one, but I got like
the really cheap knockoff version that only had one button
and you can either go forward or wait, press the
button and it would go backwards. And that's when I realized,

(02:01):
I think financially we were not very well off.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
I was like, no, So it was just a really
interesting conversation to have because.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
I think it's weird that millennials especially kind of feel like, well,
not that I have adult money, I can get the
things I never had, Like I would absolutely go out
and buy a my life size Barbie right now.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Would I get some judgmental looks for it? Possibly?

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Six?

Speaker 1 (02:23):
One, six, four, five eight?

Speaker 3 (02:25):
What? Oh?

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Five? Seven? Come on? What is the Christmas gift you
never got as a kid? Give me a call.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
I would love love to hear your good ones start
one o five point seven. We are West Michigan's Christmas Station.
It is a Monday.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
I'm schmitty.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
We're getting it through, getting through it together. I can
work on talking. We're actually looking back on the Christmas
gifts we never got, and I feel like I need
to apologize because I know I'm drumming up some trauma
from the childhood.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Good Morning Star. Who's this nice, Julie? Where are you
calling from? Callen? Do all right, Julie, I know you've
got one. What's the Christmas gift you never got?

Speaker 3 (03:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (03:04):
So I never got the Barbie dream House. Oh, the
Barbie dream House was so next level. I only had
like two friends of mine that had a Barbie dream House.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
Yeah, no, I never got.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
I begged for it, you know, but my husband's she's
on the hunt.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
He's on.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
That would be by the way, as full grown adults,
I would still come over and play with your Barbie
dream House.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
So you just let me know.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
I was absolutely let you know, because I still buy Barbie's.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
I was like that, you know, it's Christmas time, I'm
gonna buy myself a.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Barbie and I guess you are, Julie.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Thanks for the call.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Yeah you too.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Hey Star, who's this?

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Yeah this, Tony, give me.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
The Christmas gift you never got.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
In nineteen eighty one, I went searching for gifts at
my parents' house and I found a Star Wars lightsaber
under their bed. Being me being the absolute genius, I
was decided to be kind of riot speaking said to
my mom, Mom, I want a lightsaber for Christmas. I
never got it, And to this day, I don't know
what I was doing there or if my mom might

(04:07):
have been a little bit smarter than me decided to
teach me a lesson.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Oh my gosh, you never got it.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
I never got it.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Sad it's savage, oh total.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
Oh boy, that one's going to stick with you. Well,
don mom.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
All right, here's a Christmas gift. I promise, if you win,
is going to come your way. Patty LaBelle Gladys Night

Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage

Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage

Rewarded for bravery that goes above and beyond the call of duty, the Medal of Honor is the United States’ top military decoration. The stories we tell are about the heroes who have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism and courage that have saved lives. From Judith Resnik, the second woman in space, to Daniel Daly, one of only 19 people to have received the Medal of Honor twice, these are stories about those who have done the improbable and unexpected, who have sacrificed something in the name of something much bigger than themselves. Every Wednesday on Medal of Honor, uncover what their experiences tell us about the nature of sacrifice, why people put their lives in danger for others, and what happens after you’ve become a hero. Special thanks to series creator Dan McGinn, to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society and Adam Plumpton. Medal of Honor begins on May 28.
