Speaker 1 (00:00):
West Michigan's Christmas station. It's Star onin oh five point seven,
the news you need to start your day. It's the
West Michigan Wake Up powered by Minards on Star one
oh five point seven. We'll start with breaking news. A
group of Democratic Senators voting with Republicans late last night
to advance legislation that could finally reopen the federal government

(00:22):
and end the now forty day shutdown that has left
tens of thousands of workers furloughed and cause chaos at
airports across the country. The Senate voting sixty to forty
to proceed to a House passed continuing resolution that would
reopen the government, taking a big first step towards ending
that shutdown. Now, Senate Democrats did block that same House

(00:46):
passed bill to fund the government on fourteen previous occasions,
which is why this is a very big deal. Eight
Democrats voting for that bill. Hopefully this would mean at
least a continuation. It would include a stop gap measure
that would fund the rest of the government through at
least January thirtieth. That could be very welcome news as

(01:08):
airlines across the country continue to cancel flights more than
twenty seven hundred flights canceled just yesterday alone, and Transportation
Secretary Sean Duffy Warren's air traffic could slow to a
trickle if the federal government lingers into the busy Thanksgiving
travel season. Forty of the nation's busiest airports began more

(01:30):
disruption into its third day. Of those canceled airlines, the
FAA reduction started Friday at four percent, and get this
will increase to ten percent of flights by this Friday.
That will be in effect six am to ten pm,
and it will impact all commercial airlines. So we will

(01:50):
hopefully see something happening soon. Yes at West Michigan, heavy
lake effect snow pois to impact parts of the lake
shore in one of our very first rounds of winter weather.
A winter storm warning remains in effect for counties south
of Grand Rapids until one am tomorrow morning. Meanwhile, a
winter weather advisory and effect for others. A lot of

(02:14):
that heavy snow will be buryon cass and Van Buren Counties.
We'll get this. An additional five to seven inches could
be forecasted through tonight, depending on where you're at. Got
that boy at West Michigan Star dot Com let's head
into sports. Oh, it's a rough one for the Red Wings,
losing to the Chicago Blackhawks last night five to one.

(02:36):
But we saw our Lions step up big. What an
incredible win over Washington and Wow, it's incredible with Dan
Campbell calling those offensive plays, Jared Goff throwing for three
hundred and twenty yards three touchdowns, forty four to twenty
two win over the Commanders. Meanwhile, into college basketball, the

(02:58):
Spartans taking on another victory, topping number fourteen Arkansas and
in a rivalry match we've been waiting for, Hope College
easily defeating Calvin University on Saturday fifty two to nothing.
Now tonight we see the Pistons back in action taking
on Washington. You can hear that on top twelve thirty
