Back to the Craig Way Show.Connect with Craig through the text line by
text Team Texas to eight one fivethree zero, followed by your message.
Standard message and data rates may applyhere on a Thursday afternoon. And while

(00:25):
it is let's see to be exactninety five degrees here in this part of
town where we are, we're stillnot that far away from football season.
Start a football season. We've talkedquite a bit about that. A couple

(00:49):
of things in line. We hadGreg Tepper, managing editor of Day Campus,
Texas Football magazine, on with usyesterday. We have received the annual
shipment of advance copies to give away. I've done this ever since the early
two thousands, actually, no,the late twentieth century, late nineties.

(01:15):
We were doing this nineteen ninety eight, ninety nine, whatever. Thanks for
the good folks at Dave Campbells TexasFootball Magazine. We had one year cam
one year where it was like thisin July ninety five degrees or so,
and Bill Schoening and I were doingthe show, and we were doing it
from a Randalls. I don't thinkthe Randalls is in business anymore, but

(01:40):
maybe you might be familiar, youknow, that area right near the hospital
district near Seaton, where thirty eighthand thirty fifth split. If you're coming
off of Mopack, you're on thirtyfifth, and all of a sudden it
splits to the right going towards Seatonand thirty eight cuts to the left.
I believe it is well. Therewas a randals right in between there for

(02:04):
a long time. I don't thinkit's there anymore, maybe something else in
the space in the building. Butwe sat out there, we did our
show out there. This how longago this was This was the summer of
ninety eight. It was before weactually flipped to All Sports to become Sports

(02:27):
Radio thirteen hundred Zone. We werestill the AM thirteen hundred, which was
a news talk but we had oursports talk show in the afternoon, and
we did our show out there fromout front in the rantals. Now we
were in the shade, but stillit's ninety five and it's hot. But

(02:49):
not only were we there, theone and only immortal Dave Campbell himself Wow,
was with us with a box ofmagazines and he sat out there and
personally autographed for three hours magazines forpeople. We gave him away the next
year we said, we're not goingto do that outside to get too hot.
He came back down and is onthe tour and he sat in the

(03:13):
studio did it and people had tocall in and stuff, and he personally
autographed copies. We gave away, gosh on the air probably you know,
nearly fifty or something, just onthe air to take a call in between
doing the show. But anyway, that's how long ago where we are going
to give away copies of Dave CampbellsTexas Football Magazine. Again. Yesterday,

(03:36):
somebody had put the question up onthe text line when are they going to
be available to the public. GregTemper told us they are being shipped to
those places. He said, I'mnot in charge of shipping, so I'm
not exactly sure, you know,he said, I don't drive the trucks,
so not exactly sure. You knowwhen it'll be when they're on the
shelves. I would imagine by thisweekend probably, But we're going to give

(03:59):
you the opportunity to win a copy. In the past, what we have
done is we would like take randomcallers, like you know, whatever fifth
call or eighth call, or tenthcall or fourth call or whatever. There's
gonna be a little more to itthis year than just random. It'll give
you an opportunity because you may belike me and not that lucky about trying

(04:19):
to win things. I won onething one time. Grand prize was a
weekend for a weekend at a hotelin Myrtle Beach when it was in North
Carolina. Was the final game ofthe regular season for the Carolina Cougars in
the ABA. I was thirteen yearsold nineteen seventy three seventy four. It

(04:40):
turned out to be the final regularseason game ever because they bowed to Saint
Louis the next year. They hadplayoffs after that, but it was fan
appreciation night and a ticket and Ijust happened to have the winning ticket for
that. It was the grand prize, which was a weekend in Myrtle Beach,
you know, the hotel. Butit wasn't bad. We did My
Dad and I went later on.So it was this. They'll call it

(05:00):
dirty Myrtle then, No, theydidn't then, And there's very little that's
dirty about it now. You saidthat when I was on with you.
First of all, I did notstay in Myrtle. I stayed in Sunset
Beach, which is thirty miles northof Myrtle, just across the state line
in North Carolina. We did allour partying in Dirty Myrtle. It's not

(05:20):
the dirty it's there's lots of greatrestaurants and there's some clubs, and yes,
there's the you know, you getto May there's biker rallies there and
stuff like that, and there's there'ssome of that, I think, you
know, especially if you're going alongOcean Boulevard right down there, there's some
of that. Yeah, But inthe summertime it's real family oriented. You

(05:43):
know, people think the kids andthey go to that. And I had
a lot of great restaurant meals, you know, seafood, Italian steaks.
Lynda and I had a tremendous steakthe last night we were there at New
York Prime, which was tremendous. So, no, it's a little more
family orient And no, they didnot call it Dirty Myrtle back then,
and not that many people call itthat so much. Now that's more Inlanders

(06:08):
who refer to it like that. But so that was the only time I
really want anything. So if youhave had an issue trying to win something
in the past, uh, thisthis gives you a little more control over
it because the way we're going todo this is through our talk back feature.

(06:28):
So when we tell you and thisis I think we're shooting for starting
this on Monday, when we arein Dallas for SEC Media Days, which
would be a perfect starting off point. We'll have more details here by the
end of the show tomorrow. Certainlywe'll let you know, but I think
that's what the plan is going tobe, that we would start it on
Monday. So the way it's goingto work is all you have to do

(06:57):
is download the iHeartRadio app if youhaven't already, very easy, it's free.
Download that and then use the talkback feature and you can record the
best explain them to how that works. Yeah, So if you don't have
the iHeart Radio app, I encourageyou to download it because it's the best
way to listen to this show ifyou're not in your car. It's how
I was listening when it was atMyrtle Beach or Sunset Beach, when I

(07:19):
was sitting on the beach. I'lllistened to you guys a couple of days.
It's for the download, and alsoyou can listen to all of our
shows on demand and not just ourshow, Harje Knock's Life, Dan Patrick's
Show, Colin Coward, a lotof podcasts, including Steven A. Smith's
new podcast. But when you're listeningto Rock Express Round, Rock Express Baseball
exactly. But when you're listening, there is a red talk back button.

(07:43):
It's a microphone. You just holdit down. You can leave a short
and sweet and clean, no dredaremarks, no dada remarks, please message
that. And we've played a fewon this show. We've had a couple
that have used the talk back feature. But it's it's easy, and it's
also the best way to listen tothis show. So so what they would

(08:03):
do is, if they haven't alreadydownloaded the iHeartRadio app, do it and
then once you have it, thenuse the talk back feature. Now how
does that that? That by clickingon our station? Is that it?
And then you hit it? Yeah? That correct. If you're watching us
here on the stream, you cansee me holding holding up my phone listening

(08:24):
to our show right now, andyou see this red little button right here.
Yep. You just hold it downand you just leave your message.
So you tap to record to senda message, and you hold it down,
you get three two one and justsay say whatever you want to say.
Well, in this case, whatthey need to say is what they
like best about the magazine? Yes, what what you like? And that's

(08:46):
it up to thirty seconds, andwe're going to give away multiple copies to
people who do that, who availthemselves of that iHeartRadio app there and then
let us know that and you'll geta cop It's that simple. It's that
easy. So we'll do that. We'll make sure and do that. We'll
make it as simple as possible ondoing that. What a story to say

(09:09):
is we're going to have some ratingson things. Unit rankings are out,
all American teams are out, thingslike that. Yesterday I mentioned Atlanta had
their playoff bracket out and they showedTexas going all the way to the semifinals.
But they had Texas as a sixthseed, in other words, not

(09:31):
getting one of those four coveted firstround buys in this new era of the
college football twelve team playoff, beingthe sixth seed and the runner up to
Georgia in the SEC. And thenthey had them beating Notre Dame in the
first round. That would be agame in Austin because they'd be higher seeded
than the Irish, who would bethe eleven seed, then in the Peach

(09:54):
Bowl in Atlanta, beating Florida State, a higher seed a three seed,
getting the semifinals and then falling toOhio State and the Cotton Bowl in the
semifinals. Ohio State would then fallto Georgia in the National Championship Game.
After Georgia, after getting a firstround by would beat Alabama and the Sugar
Bowl and Oregon in the Orange Bowlbefore falling. So that's that's how their
bracket works. They also have bowlprojections and among some of the highlighted bowl

(10:22):
projections because you know, there's alot of strange names for some bowls.
As we know, sixty eight VenturesBowl, that's the old Dollar General Bowl,
I believe. So there's there's lotsof different ones that Duke's Mayo Bowl
is still around, Fenway Bowl isstill around, the Quick Lane Bowl is
still around, the Pop Tarts Bowlis still around. In fact, they've

(10:45):
got Oklahoma State slated to play Clemsonin the pop Tarts Bowl. Off of
that, they have Oklahoma in theTexas Bowl against Kansas because remember it's SEC
against big twelve, So that flipsback around that way, and they have

(11:05):
Texas State going to a bowl gameof back to back years. Bobcats have
never been to a bowl before.Last year going and winning was a great,
great run for g. J.Kinney's Well, he's got him in
the New Mexico Bowl against UNLV accordingto atline. So that's good news there.
And then I'm looking for UTSA becauseI'm pretty sure they would be in

(11:28):
a bowl as well. I'm lookingThey've got SMU in the Gasparilla Bowl against
Florida. That's SEC against either ACCor American. We have to remember SMU
is now an ACC school. Sothey have Texas A and M in the
Las Vegas Bowl against Arizona. That'sPack twelve against either Big ten or SEC

(11:50):
in that. And they have UTSAplaying Iowa State in the Armed Forces Bowl
in Fort Worth. Of course, the UTSA won last year up in Frisco,
won their bowl game up in Frisco, beating Marshall. All right,
we'll be back to a wrap upHour number two here on Sports Radio AM
thirteen under the Zone in the iHeartRadio app
