(00:03):
He's a Texas legend, a Hallof Fame broadcaster, the voice of the
Texas Longhorns, and your host ofthe Craigway Show. Here he is now
Craig Way. As we begin thisfinal hour of the program, you probably

(00:33):
if you're in the final hour ofyour regular Monday through Friday work you get
a little more amped up, right, a little more excited. This is
after all, prior me up Friday. Cameron Parker has decreed that disco music
shall occupied the return cuts today onthe program. Because he's all fired up.

(00:55):
I think you probably would have donewell in the disco era. You
out on the floor they are see. I wouldn't have had the hair for
it, but you know, oneof the GiB brothers was bald. Yeah,
so I mean I guess it wouldhave been all right. Yeah,
yeah, I think so. Butthe point that I was going to make
is is that you know, thisfinal hour of the work week, folks

(01:22):
get a little more excited about it. They know they got one hour to
go before the clock hits whatever inour case, five o'clock. It might
already be done. For some folks, that may be done it for some
might not be done till six orlater, or whatever what adds to it
for both Cameron and myself. Ifthe cameras were to point out here into

(01:47):
the building here in the iHeart compound, you would see a veritable desolate room.
And this happens quite often on Friday. By the time you get to
this hour, everybody's done for theweek other than us. So literally,
not just figuratively. Literally, CameronPark and I are the only two people

(02:09):
left in the building right now.I mean there's security people that ride around
and stuff like that, but inthe building here where we are, you
know, hard by the uh ColoradoRiver and Lake Austin and nestled up against
the Pennypacker Bridge the building where weare. Nobody else in the building.

(02:34):
This does. I'll get the dooropen right now. Normally when you do
a radio show like this, andwe've got multiple studios here. This is
a beautiful building and complex and allthis. I was just got God when
I came back here and when itworked. This is the third physical incarnation
of radio studios for me in theiHeart family, because it goes all the

(02:59):
way back for me to nineteen ninetyseven, the year I moved down from
Dallas and worked in Dallas all thoseyears up at KRLD, and we were
in the ballpark in Arlington, whichwas pretty cool. I was doing morning
drive sports and do that six fifteenam sports cast in an all news block

(03:19):
news format. Go get a coupleof coffee and go sit out in those
seats there in the plaza area incenter field in the cool of the morning,
even in the summertime. Didn't doit too much in the winter because
you could get gold. But thatwas pretty cool. But then it was
down here. We were at seventhand Lamar seven O five North Lamar is

(03:39):
where we were. It's where there'san apartment building now there, the Nakona,
I believe it is, And wewere there. Our studios were there,
and they'd been there for long oncome prior to by arrival. Two
thousand and one, we moved toten Field down in South Austin, upon
the hill. There we were located, as I used to tell folks both

(04:03):
geographically and philosophically, between Saint Edward'sUniversity and expose the adult cabaret. I
said, both geographically and philosophically,we were somewhere in between there, and
so we were there, and that'swhere the radio station was and the operation
went out left to go across townin twenty seventeen, and then coming back

(04:26):
here into these quarters. It's reallycool, very very exciting with the studios
and this shimmering model of how modernradio is done. And it was really
cool. I mean, you likedit too, right when you first came
on board. You actually got inthe building before I did, although we
were hired pretty closely around the sametime. It's a great facility and I

(04:46):
love being on the lookout towards SlakeOssin. We walked from our studio to
the break room or any of theother offices. You know, you can
look out the window and you seeyou see the three sixty overlook. You
see the Pennybacker Bridge. I onlywish we could have a view of Austin
Country Club and in holes four, five and six. But is that is

(05:10):
that the fourth I've played it onetime, but it was so long ago
I'd forgot. Is that is thatholes four, five and six sixty?
Yes, for the members as wellas you can kind of see uh,
you can kind of see seven aswell. But of course, you know,
as we we drive home, drivenorth, we pass over the bridge
both coming here and going home.Yeah, and I always love getting a

(05:31):
look at that beautiful, beautiful andvery scenic golf course and the course they
Austin. And in some days, you know, you're like, man,
I wish I could be out inthe lake. But it's all right,
it's but it's a fun facility here. It is glad to be glad to
be here. Yeah. And thereason why I bring it up is because,
like I said, at this houron a Friday, on a Friday
afternoon, it's not like this everyday. Some days sometimes it is,
but usually by Friday afternoon in thefour o'clock hour, most everybody is put

(05:59):
in their week's work, are donefor the week, and so we're the
only ones left. So in radio, and like I said, in all
the places I've worked, even theone at seventh and Lamar, we had
we had multiple studios because had multipleradio stations like we do now. You
know, we have the home ofAustin's all time country favorites. Ninety eight
point one FM gave that we haveCase one oh one, we have Kiss

(06:20):
FM, we have one two pointthree the Beat, so we have that,
we have one oh three point oneFM, Austin's eighty station ninety seven
point five events. So we hadall these stations here in the building.
So there's multiple studios. So normally, because there's multiple studios and multiple shows
and music and stuff going on,and you have people in management and sales

(06:43):
and all that around the building,we keep the doors closed when we're on
the air. We don't want todisturb them, and we don't want quite
frankly, we don't want them disturbingus. But at this point on a
Friday afternoon, four o'clock, we'rethe only guys in the building. We're
the only living beings in this buildingright now, or well, in our

(07:03):
studio. I mean it's a bigbuilding. There's other offices and things like
that, but in the iHeart studioswere the only ones here, which is
really it's interesting. So we openthe door because nobody's going to come in
screaming at us, you know,So that's a good thing. Anyway.
The Major League Baseball Draft, youknow, with all the stuff that's going

(07:26):
on for the All Star Game andthe SEC media days going on in Dallas
and the all started activities and isa massive amount of activities, a lot
of which are will be taking placein choc Tall Stadium, the old Rangers

(07:47):
Ballpark at Arlington where they actually hostedthe nineteen ninety five All Star Game.
I was there, was there forit was hot. It was oven hot
on that But they've got a lotof activities that will be going on there
and a lot of cooling mis fansand things like that Manfest type activities and
more in what used to be theArlington Convention Center. It's now an East
Sports Theater. It's pretty cool.IMC an event for the Texas High School

(08:11):
Coach Association every February, a coachingleadership summit and it's in that E Sports
thing and it's pretty neat. Sothey got all of those activities. And
then on top of that, thedraft is going on fifteen miles further west
in Fort Worth in the old CaltownColiseum on Sunday. It starts on Sunday.

(08:33):
So we've done mock drafts, orat least reported mock drafts for the
teams involved in the NFL and majorleague in the NBA. Kylie McDaniel,
who's really the draft insider guy,put out his most latest edition of the

(08:54):
mock Draft for ESPN Plus today hesays, the number one pick in this
year's Major League Baseball amateur Draft,Cleveland Guardians have this choice. He says
it's going to be jj weatherhol theinfielder from West Virginia who's a fabulous ball
player when he's healthy. He misseda lot of this past year because of

(09:16):
a bad hamstring, But he saysjj Weatherholt is the odds on favor to
be the overall number one pick.Number two, Jack cagneone from Florida to
go to the Reds, Rocky's thethree go to Georgia. Home run king
Charlie Condon, Travis Bezana, thesecond baseman from Oregon State to Oakland at

(09:39):
number four, Connor Griffin, ahigh school shortstop from Jackson, Mississippi,
to the White Sox, and numberfive. I asked Team Watson if he
knew the other day, said,do you know right now? So I'm
not asking you to reveal it,but if it goes the way you think
it's going to go here, ifyou had your pick, do you know
who you guys would take? Heis, I really honestly don't know because
we're still debating it. A lotof guys this mindraft says the Socks will

(10:03):
take high school shortstop Connor Griffin numberfive. Royals at number six would probably
go for wake Forest right hand orChase Burns. The Cardinals at seven would
go for Arkansas left hand or HagenSmith. The Angels at number eight Brad
Montgomery from Texas A and M,who of course had the injury of course
at the broken leg there. Buthe's at number eight. Bryce Rayner,

(10:26):
the shortstop from Harvard Westlake, TexasConvent YEP to go to the Pirates at
numbernine, and I think if you'rea top ten pick, it's a pretty
safe betty he's not gonna yeah,he will miss it set foot in Austin,
YEP. And the number ten overallpick would be James Tibbs, the
outstanding right fielder from Florida State togo to the Nationals number ten, so

(10:48):
Cam Cammanitti would be at number elevento the Tigers, Christian Moore of Tennessee
to the Red Sox at twelve,Nick Kurtz of wake Forest, the first
basement of the Giants at thirteen,Cam Smith Florida State, third baseman of
the Cubs at fourteen, Trey Savagethat very powerful right hand from East Carolina
at number fifteen overall to the Mariners, sever King wait for a shortstop of

(11:11):
the Marlins at sixteen. Carson Binge, Oklahoma State Cowboy right fielder. Memory,
he was a closer, He dida little bit of everything, but
he'd be in the outfield for theBrewers, who would take him at seventeen.
According to Kayla McDaniel's mock draft,Kellen Lindsay, a high school short
sup from Florida to Tampa Bay ateighteen. Dance Honeycup, the slugging center

(11:35):
fielder of North Carolina to the Metsat number nineteen. The o'gillan. Yeah,
another long worn commit, The o'gillenout of Westlake High to Toronto at
number twenty. Another guy who ifhe's a first round pick, you know,
all expectations that he would signed theTwins at twenty one for Kentucky left

(11:56):
fielder Ryan Waldschmidt kayln colepep Kansas State. He played a lot of first base
in outfield for the Wildcats, butthey project him as a shortstop to the
Oriels at twenty two. The Dodgersto go for Oklahoma high school left hander
Cash Mayfield at twenty three, BrodyBreck, right hand pitcher from Iowa to

(12:18):
the Braves. At twenty four,Darangelosinjay from Mississippi State pitcher to the Padres.
At twenty five, Yankees to gowith Caleb Lamavina, catcher from cow
At twenty six. PJ. Moorlandofrom Somerville, South Carolina High school outfielder
of the Phillies. At twenty seven, the Astros to go for Millard West

(12:39):
High School Tyson Lewis. That's inthe Omaha area. That's at twenty eight.
At twenty nine, Oxford, Alabamashortstop high school shortstop Carter Johnson to
the Diamondbacks. The Rangers at thirtyto go for Stanford catcher Malcolm Moore.
So that's a mock draft there fromKyler McDaniel and the draft starts on Sunday.

(13:01):
We'll see how it goes. Soat least two Texas commits probably drafted
in the first round, maybe threebecause Slashnego flipped right handed pitcher Drew Rerick
from Fargo, YEP, North Dakotafrom A and M to Texas got a
ninety eight mile prior fastball, achance he goes in the first round.
A chance. He also does notplay for Texas next year. Yep,

(13:24):
yep, absolutely all right, Wegot some other topics to get to when
we continue here on Sports Radio AMthirteen under the zone of the iHeartRadio app.
