She's her Girls Golf LPGA Girls Golf. They're running their
version of the Ryder Cup or the Solheim Cup for them.

joining us at nine to twenty. And then you know,

of course, our our regular kind of like the fifth
man on our roster, Rex Hogman, I mean he's number
he's fifth on the roster, number one in your hearts.
The Adam Schefter of Golf's going to join us. We're
gonna chat with him about some of the goings on
in the world with golf. We'll do golf gaming one
on one, give out some picks, got we got lots
to gamble on with golf, and maybe a few college

football picks. I don't know. We'll see how that GRoWES.
And then in the and then the second hour, we're
gonna have a special guest joining us. Jeff maw the
chief digital officer from truon Chris and him are palace. Uh,
He's gonna join us talk to us a little bit
about some new things that are coming on from from
True and Access. But maybe Google that guy. He has

a whole hour with him. But we're gonna we're gonna
talk to him and then you know we got beat

you know, this week we had the media day on
Monday out at Phoenix Country Club. Got to go out there,
play a little with Steven Alker. Bauer did an interview
on the course with Steven Alker that you can uh

back mister Alker. That's right, there was a whole behind
the scenes. Uh do we call him Steve? Do we

it was great and uh so that that was awesome
to be out there. Phoenix Country Club's in tremendous shape
and greens are phenomenal. I expect scores to be low
out there, and you know, Tiffany Nelson and the tournament
team and then obviously the operations team at Phoenix Country Club,
especially you think about it from an agronomy standpoint, they

had to turn and burn overseed and this wasn't the
easiest overseeding year with the rain and everything that the
valley got. That golf course is lush. We Andrew, we
lost some balls in the rough out here. Yeah, they're
starting to mow it down, I think a little bit
because it was like, you're one foot off the fairway,
you may not find it. It was. It's really gonna

that the challenge of that golf course is going to
be the rough for sure. But we'll get into some
Phoenix Country Club talk. But we got a lot going
on in the world, Andrew, I mean right now down
in Cabo Worldwide Technology Championship, we got we got some
stories going on down there.

I mean, my my top story that I'm looking at
is Nick Dunlap. This guy, young, young guy, played really
well one on tour and then just gone, just disappeared,
comes out round one and fires off what sixty one? Yeah,
I mean that's that's that's that's low. So I'm happy

to see him back in action doing that. But man, Cabo,
if you're going to be anywhere right now, Cabo's a
Cobo's a pretty good place to go out and play,

Say, Yeah, they're playing down at Diamante down there in
Cabo San Lucas, which is Cape Saint Luke if you're
wanting to get that translated. But they're playing eld Cardinal

special place. Good weather golf course looks really fun. They
haven't had a lot of wind so that you know,
scores are low. Matty Schmidt is currently leading. He went
sixty four to sixty three. He's at seventeen under Nick
Dunlup as you mentioned, you know name that came out
as one as an amateur on tour. First guy to
do that since Phil Michelson when he won at the
Amax last year. He went sixty one to six. He's

tied for second with Sam Vallamachi and uh, then you
got Chad Ramie and Victor Perez. But you got you
got some names on that leaderboard, Chris.

Yeah, you got Ben Griffin, Ryder Cupper at t five
and then an Arizona product Mason Anderson in the top
ten going into the weekend from Queen Creek, Arizona. So
we're pulling for the little devils, now, you got it?

interesting day. Eric Cole former you know, former Rookie of
the Year is also up at the top of the

leaderboard as well too. But sure certainly some stunning golf.
It's a sneaky good weekend for golf if you think
about DP World Tour, PGA Tour. We're coming into the
Charles Schwab Cup Championship and a lot of great action
this weekend.

go over to the leaderboard in the Abu Dhabi event
that they're playing at Yas Links Aaron Raie one of
my favorites to bet on in gaming one on one.
He's he's leading right now at twenty under, and then

Yeah, maybe we'll ask old uh Tommy Ganey how he

Oh I could speak a little bit of Hawaiian pidgeon
if you will, But you know, work in the working
in the golf business in Hawaii, you had to speak
a little bit of Japanese in order just to work
in the golf shop. And so you know, I I'll

We got we have six Japanese play born players at
the top of the LPG leaderboards. So Chris, this is
your time. The shot that Toto Japanese Japan Classic is happening.
It's a round three is under is under? The under
is in the books if you will.

Today is round four because they're a day ahead of us,
and uh so maybe they'll have some good football picks
that we need a preview. But but yes, you're right.
The Land of the Rising Sun is across the leaderboard

Yeah, so we got Una Rocky and Nasha Hataoka that's
tied for at minus fifteen and Meu Yamashita is at
one back at minus fourteen, and Meu is on a
heater like she is gonna get on like a little
Scotty Scheffler run here. So I'd look for her to
to kind of kind of rise rise up like the
Land of the World. She and she was the winner

last week at the Maybach Championship. She was, she was,
and she's playing well. Ranked three in the CMU Group
World Tour. And fun fact that the top sixty of
the CME Group World Tour are playing at another true
location at Tiberan and Naples. So we got it's pretty cool.
We have two tour championships happening within two months of
each other, between the Charles Schwab Cup here at Phoenix

at Corona High they're in they're in contention. Uh coach Mike,

Robbie Wilson. Proud dad moments this week with him at
the at the State High School Swim Championship. We're gonna

a dream to come through?

Yeah, you know, I don't think a lot of people know,
like when you I don't know what your exact status
was for the Champions Tour, but I believe when you
turned fifty, I believe you had to Monday qualify, And
so I think you qualified four times Monday qualifying this year.
And is that is that accurate? Four times you were
a Monday qualifier and then obviously you won the Constellation

Furic and Friends, and that moves you up quite.

Speaker 8 (14:37):
A bit, right, You know, I didn't money qualify four times,
but you're right there. I shot eight under the first one,
then I shot six on there, then I shot and
the third one I had the Monday, I.

Speaker 7 (14:50):
Shot eight under again and then I shot six and
I was the medalist. Like all four times. I think
there was one time where someone ounce tied me at
six unders. So just just being able to Monday knowing that,
you know, it takes like, I think, twenty million to
have full exempt status out there, and I made like,

(15:13):
I don't know, six point two or something, six point
three million on the PGA Tour. So that's a big
difference when you're talking twenty versus six point two. So
I knew what I had to do. I knew what
status I was going to have because I checked into
it before I turn fifty. And all I tried to
do was just go out there and get into Mondays
and just try to take off and just don't look back.

(15:35):
And you know, it just so happens that when I
got into Mondays and I got my opportunity, I made
the most of it, because it it doesn't always happen
that way.

Speaker 5 (15:47):
As you guys know absolutely, you know you've had an
incredible journey you've had over two hundred and fifty starts
as a professional. But people, a lot of people don't
know that you've gone from a factory worker to a
tour winner, and so how did that?

Speaker 2 (16:04):
Can you hear us? We might have bad connection there
with Tommy. Maybe maybe we try to get him back, Richie.
I don't know. We'll see if we can maybe reconnect
with with Tommy Ganey and see if we can get
him back. But go ahead with what you were talking
about there, Andrew. I mean his background. I mean, the
guy has been incredible with what he's gone through.

Speaker 5 (16:26):
He was a he was a factory worker, he was
making water heaters, and then now he's on playing golf
and winning on the Hooters Tour, the nationwide Corn Ferry, PGA,
now the Champions Tour. I mean, this guy is a grinder. Yeah,
and we say that as a compliment.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
Is I believe he's won a hundred I think he's
made a hundred cuts on the PGA tour. I mean,
think about how many players that are in that grinder
back and forth mode between corn Ferry and between uh.
You know, he had conditional status multiple years where they
got ten to twelve starts and the guy made in
his career has made a hundred cuts. You know, it's

really a kind of a special uh you know, it's
a special mentality, you know, when you're always hovering around
the cut line and keeping your card and things like that.
So coming back and forth really shows his determination and
his stick to this. And you know, as I like
to say, yeah, because he's just really embodies what that
kind of that that that level of player and to

(17:30):
be that committed for that for this long, you know,
now turning fifty is pretty awesome.

Speaker 5 (17:36):
Yeah, I agree. I mean, you know, golf is a
grueling game. It's mentally exhausting, and to for for someone
like Tommy to play as well as he does, but
he's always, you know, really working at it, it's got
to be super mentally exhausting. And just you know, I

(17:57):
don't know Chris.

And I think for him to like he was where
he was going with this, but to make it to
the Charles Schwab Cup is what a what a great
accomplish at fifty, not having a status, having a Monday qualify.
I mean again, like I think that like people don't
realize that this great event that's coming into the Valley
next week with the Charles Schwab Cup.

The Tour champion.

It's like the the East Lake Tour Championship that happens
in our own backyard with the top thirty six players
on the PJ Tour champions and names that we all
watch and rooted for from from from the vjson Kjchoy
to you know, Ernie Els, Freddy, Freddy Yakamsen. You know,
they're just some great players. And I think that's what
he was alluded to justin leonard In at the top

of his interview, where he was just like people that
he was idolizing and aspiring to compete with at the
highest level. He's now in that inner circle going into
going to the Phoenix Country Club next week.

That's great story. I remember him from the Big Break.
I remember when Big Break came out. I was really
interested in that show, you know, and like I mean,
he's kind of he's kind of my age, right, Like
I mean, he just turned fifty. I'm about to turn fifty,
and so like I've always kind of followed him from
Big Break and then he kind of got won.

He won the Big Break, he won the one that
was at Reunion and in Florida and uh, and then
came back again for for a reunion tour as well.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
Yeah, and so region. Speaking of reunion, we got we
got Tommy Gaine you back. Sorry about that, Tommy. I
don't know where the connection was, probably on our end,
but anyway, Hey, welcome back to the to back spin.
We're just kind of uh, you know, pontificating on on
your career and how how great, uh it has been
from a different perspective, but we were we were kind

of leaning into the big break here, and you know
that's kind of not to not to be unoriginal. That's
how maybe you kind of got your first big break
and the big breaks getting ready to come back? Are
they Is there any plans to involve you as Ah
is maybe the face of the big break in the
in the in the resurrection of the big break that's
about to come out.

You know, I have no idea. I haven't heard from anybody,
but I know they've got I think the Golf Channel
has partnered with Good Good, so you know Good Good
has besides being with Callawai, they have a lot of reach.
They have a lot of viewers on YouTube. They put

out a lot of videos, They have a lot of viewers,
and you know, I think it possibly could be really big.
I mean it's a big show and everybody loves to
watch it because they love to see people how they
react on being under the gun when you have to
hit a good shot. And everybody knows since I've been

(20:44):
through what everybody knows that The Big Break has got
a lot of drama. There's a lot of reality, and
there's a lot of good and bad golf. But the whole,
the biggest thing about it is what I like to
see is can someone handle the pressure, Because you can

(21:04):
hit a good shot be off the show. You can
hit a bad shot and you're off the show. You
can hit a mediocre shot and you could be sent packing.
That's what I want to see, if they can handle
the pressure, because trust me, when that camera's on you
all the time like that, you're under a lot of
pressure and scrutiny as well, depending on how bad or

how good of shots you hit.

Yeah, well, speaking of pressure, there's gonna be a lot
of pressure in the top thirty six Charles Schwaw Cup
points leaders coming into Phoenix for the Charles Schwaw Cup
coming up and Tommy tell Us a little bit. What's
your travel plans like when you get into town. Have
you seen Phoenix Country Club before? How's your practice schedule
going to look going into that final event.

Speaker 7 (21:50):
Well, you know, I'm leaving tomorrow. I'm gonna leave Charlotte
probably around I don't know, maybe one o'clock, two o'clock
East Coast time, and you know, I think I get
in around three point thirty four o'clockish Phoenix time. So

I'll just probably get in, just get settled into the hotel,
probably get some dinner, go watch some football, and just
kind of chill. Get out there maybe Monday afternoon and
might say if I can get a cart and go
out there and at least play nine holes just to
get a look at it because I've never played it before.
And being that is the last term of the year

with the PGA Tour champions and there's not but thirty
six guys in the field, you know, I would like
to get really familiar with this golf course because I
think it would increase my chances of playing better.

So now, Tommy, real quick, with that Southern draw, you
have to have a college football team that you follow.

It's we're not very good, but I follow them. I'm
a diehard Game cop fan.

You could see how there's been a paradigm shift. So
I think that has a lot to do with the
world ranking and more to do with just keeping the
players happy.

Hey, Rex, you know, with all the craziness with LIV
and you know, the players being outspoken on both sides,
do you think that Live is actually going to the
seventy two holes because of the players talking about this?

Speaker 2 (25:54):
And I think we lost Rex. Yeah, I think we
lost Rex there, But yeah, I mean he was he
was kind of getting into that that you know that
it's there's clearly a gap right right, and and certainly
the fifty four hole conversation was part of it. You know,
I think there's other there's other you know, talking points.

But when you start talking about the livet who are
going to seventy two holes, and then I do think
that affects the official World Golf rankings right right, And
and at the end of the day, this is their
chance to try to get I think into majors right
and help help with that and get and get into
some of those I think probably rder cut points and

presidents cut points if you're outside of the European team. Absolutely.

The only thing that that's still out there and and
is yet to be seen is the fact that they
don't have a cut. Like I know, if the Official
World Golf Rankings did put the fifty four hole monitor,
that put that like restriction that that that played, it
came into play with the World Golf Rankings. But also
the fact that they don't have a cut. But I mean,
I think strength of field, that box is checked. Like

(27:03):
they are some of the best players in the world
playing on live and uh and and now that they
have a better a better broadcast partner and they're able
to you're able to actually watch the tournament on Fox
and Fox Sports. It's uh, it's been interesting. I'm sure
that official World Golf Ranking points are are are on
the horizon for live golfers.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
Well, we got Rex back Rex shifting gears from live
over to the Worldwide Technology Championship. I mean, we're excited
to see Nick Dunlop go out and shoot sixty one.
Uh sneaky goodfield. You got Ben Griffin there, of course,
are US Open Champion JJ Spond's playing in the field.
What are What are some of your takes from what
we got going on down in Cabo.

Speaker 11 (27:43):
I think this is what we come to expect in
the fall. There are a handful of players that they're
going to go and make the most of the fall.
You're not at the professional golf and you're not going
to sit out an entire fall, So I understand where
this is coming from. You mentioned Nick dun Lapp. That's
the one that probably interested me the most because his
career has been so fascinating to me. I was the
American Express last year when he won had an amateur,
he took up his tour status and then almost fell

(28:05):
off the planet before somehow coming back to his end
of the season in winning again. So it's feast You're
famine for some reason when it comes to him, only
because I would argue that, yes, of course he should
have taken his tour status, but I think he's a
really good example of what happens when maybe you're not
one hundred percent prepared to play on the PGA Tour.

Speaker 2 (28:27):
Then we shift gears. We go over to Abu Dhabi
and Ya's Links and we got Aaron Rye and Tommy
Fleetwood and Shane lowry Man. The DP World Tour really
starting to get some names to play, to play their events.
How what is that. I'm not trying to make it
a bigger picture issue at thirty thousand feet, but like,

(28:48):
these players are going and playing in the DP World Tour.
A lot of live guys are playing over there. Like,
is the DP World Tour kind of a competitor of
the PGA Tour here in the fall? I mean it
kind of feels like, you know, I mean, I want
to watch Tommy Fleetwood and Aaron Rye Rory No.

Speaker 11 (29:05):
And I think that's a really good point. I would
argue that this is the time of year when the
DP World Tour should shine because you had the PGA
Tour who shifted to almost let's call it a seven
event Q school. We do have top players, as you
pointed out, playing this week in Mexico, but buy in
large these are guys who are just kind of playing
for their jobs. So the European Tour can take advantage
of this, and that's what kind of what they're doing.

(29:25):
When you look at these last two events in the
Middle East, and there's been some other really solid events.
I'll go to the Dunhill Links Championship and some of
the other stops they've had along the way. It's a
time for them to shine. And I'm with you. I
think Tommy Fleetwood is there anything he can't do this season?

Speaker 2 (29:41):
Tom Tom that was coming, got to keep it loose.
And then we have the Champions Tour Schwab Cup here
in Phoenix, and so not to bury the lead because
we're big fans. We played in the Monday media day
out there and had a conversation with Steve Aalker last
week on the show. We just had Tommy two gloves
on the show. He gave a nice shout out to

(30:02):
the Big Break which is being re envisioned. But uh,
you know, uh, what are you looking for at the Championshiper,
I think there's five guys that can win the overall
Tour title cup the Schwap Cup, but really strong field
and uh you know, to have thirty six guys ballin
in our in our neck of the woods, we're excited about.

(30:23):
But what are what are what storylines are you watching
for the for the Schwap Cup.

Speaker 11 (30:27):
Well, it's so competitive out there. But Stephen Aker was
our GWA Golf Art Association of America Senior Player of
the Year last year, and I can't spend a little
bit of time with him around Augusta when we gave
him the award, And it's such a fascinating story. Was
here the guy who did literally nothing on the PGA Tour,
they'd really struggled to even get any status whatsoever, and
has suddenly turned into this world beater on the PGA

(30:49):
Tour champions. I think it's an awesome story, and I
do think it's almost a cautionary tale. I actually played
in the media to day this week as well for
Jim the Furkan Friends events at Himmick Beach Resort and
had a chance to talk with Jim about this and
another Brady, the president of the PGA Tour champions. They're
getting rid of Q School, which I understand the idea
behind it, but if you're going to do that, you're

(31:10):
going to maybe narrow the pathway. He's like we talked
about on the PGA Tour all the time, to the
point that maybe if Steven Alker can't do what he
has ended up doing, which is having a phenomenal second career.

Speaker 2 (31:21):
Yeah. The two guests that we've had on the show
the last two weeks, right Alker, and then Tommy Tugloves
who really just turned fifty in August and he Monday
qualified for four events and won an event, and he's
literally thirty six out of the thirty six players. He
got in by the skin of his teeth. I mean,
in the future with no with what they're taking away

(31:43):
from the Charles Schwab Cup, we feel like those opportunities
are going to be less and less now. They and
that was a conversation on Monday's media day with Alker.
But my question for you is there is some plans
right to create some other opportunities. They are taking away that,
but they are going to come back with an additional plan.
Is that right?

Speaker 11 (32:03):
Well, you still have avenues, and Mili Brady was quick
to point out correctly so that Stephen Aker played his
way onto the PGA Tour champions via sponsor exemption to
money qualifying. Actually, I don't even know if you got
any sponsor exemptions. I think it was almost entirely Monday qualifying.
So you still have that avenue. And it's not as
though Cuschool gave you a lot of real estate. I
think there was only five cards each year, so it

(32:23):
was really tough. It was a tough shop to get into,
so you still have those and I think the senior
circuit has just made the commitment that, look, this is
about rewarding players who have stayed loyal to the PGA
Tour for their careers, who have invested in the PGA Tour.
If you look like look at next year's class and
like that. That class particularly interests me because I feel
like I'm part of that class on some level because

(32:46):
I covered these guys when they were still in college.
You have Ryan Palmer, you have Zad Johnson, you have
potentially Tiger Woods. But it's going to be such a
good class.

Speaker 2 (32:54):
So it's a.

Speaker 11 (32:55):
Commitment that the PGA Tour champions has made and I
certainly understand that from my business perspective, but competitive perspective,
You're right, it's going to be difficult for some of
these players to play.

didn't lose your mortgage. Remember I always bet responsibly, bet
the units that you can. But yeah, we've we've been
pretty successful this year. If you have bet, like Marty,

on today on Texas A and M Missouri? That's a

be a little bit of an upset if Missouri pulls

the booking experience. I've seen a lot more bookings online
on truon dot com and the truanapp. You should be
really proud of the work you've done there and how
does that benefit the golfer in terms of ease of use?

I mean, we just want to give golfers the same
experience that they get in other industries. I mean, you know,
you're not calling to book flights or hotels anymore. You
have like a best in class technology experience that makes
it really easy to book those types of things, and
golfers should have the same thing. I think golf has
been a little bit slow in that. And again we

have both a website, a mobile website and an native
iPhone app that that you can do all this stuff
out and so you know, that experience and be able
to book online, you know, see how many points you have,
be able to redeem those points online, be able to
see all the different great courses that you can play.
You know, I think we as golfers just like to
spend time looking at golf courses and imagining playing there,

(56:41):
even if we can't play there. And so that idea
of being able to go into you know, immersive experience
with an app is so important to really capturing, you know,
the imagination and the excitement of golfers. So yeah, I mean,
we just want to make it really easy and seamless.
We don't think you should need to call or show
up at a pro shop and give them your numb
and all that kind of stuff. We just want to

(57:01):
make it easy for golfers to be able to redeem
points and play golf.

Speaker 5 (57:06):
You know, Jeff, you're a very intelligent guy. You're a
former member of the MIT Blackjack team. There is book
movie made about you, you know, and I think that's
so awesome. And then, you know, with the rise of
what we're seeing with AI, what's something that you know
you are trying to do. Are you trying to go

(57:27):
towards using AI more to help with what's going on
with truon or are you trying to just stay old
school and just do it yourself.

Speaker 4 (57:36):
Well, I mean you have to be part of AI.
I mean AI is kind of everything. I mean, AI
will help us do better job running golf courses obviously,
like losing the AI mowers and things like that. I
think the booking experience obviously is going to change a
lot eventually, like people will use things like chat GBT
to book and plan golf. Planning golf and planning golf
trips is pretty hard, so I think that's an area

(57:58):
that can help. I think customers service at the golf courses,
like being able to just call in and get your
answers or chat with the chatbot like by texting, can
take a lot of pressure off the golf course staff
so that when they're in the shop they don't have
to answer the phone. They can just be helping the
people that are on the course. So I think there's
a lot of areas that that AI can really help there.

(58:20):
And obviously it's you know, it's everywhere. It's a big deal,
and we want to make sure that there's opportunities. But
you know, to be honest, golf is at a point
where you know, it's not even necessarily ready for AI,
and a lot of these things, like what we're doing
right now, I would call like web one point oh
versus you know, Web four point oh. So you know,
there's there's opportunities. And once we get a lot of

(58:42):
these things done online and we get a lot of
that data we change people's behavior, then we can really
focus on using AI to to help their experience.

Speaker 3 (58:51):
Let's talk about you as a golfer yourself, Jeff, Like
you you really got hooked on the game really during COVID, right,
tell that story?

Speaker 4 (59:01):
Yeah, I mean I was. I just had my second kid.
So I have a six year old and an eight
year old, and during COVID, I just had my second kid.
I'd moved to Suburbs and I was working in Microsoft
at the time, and I realized, you know, working remotely
at Microsoft and having kids, like, there wasn't a lot
of things that I just did for myself. I had
been a guy that played probably three to four rounds

(59:21):
a year at the most before that, and you know,
I was a huge hack. I'm still a small hack,
but getting better. And you know, I basically just really
fell in love with the game because of how there's
just not a lot you can do where if you
call your buddies, they'll drop things to come play and
hang out with you for five hours. And that social
aspect was something I loved. And then also just the

(59:43):
aspect of like trying to get better at something and
having something in my life that I was trying to master.
I love that aspect of it. So I really love
the game for the social aspect and the competitive aspect.
I love getting on the course, you know, betting, even
if it's for five dollars, I still love it because
you know, you and level everyone with handicaps, and you
know you can be competitive and and you know I

(01:00:05):
still thrive off competition, even at this age of my life.
And so you know that social competitive and even competitive
with yourself. I mean, golf is it's it's such a
great sport. And you know I really like to walk
when I play golf, so I get out there and
get some exercise and and you know it's one of
my favorite things, all.

Right, Jeff. You know, before we get out of here
with you, you know, I know in some conversations with you,
I know that you don't consider yourself a handicapper or
even a gambler. You're more of an investor, okay, because
you make sure that you skew the odds into your favor.

We opened Bellow Ridge outside of Denver star Pass reopened
from a renovation. You guys are going to go down there,

Indian Wells, reopening the Player's Course after a thirteen million
dollar renovation that Ron de Spain and and Truan had
an active roll in, and you guys are going to
be there too to unveil that backspin on the route.
There's a lot of new Coppolooas in the news with
this water dispute and the litigation that our ownership has
with the original land developer there. And for those that

reopening of the Plantation course in two days on November tenth,

over the plantation to relaunch that. But a lot of
great golf here in Arizona, fifty some odd shrewing courses
with Truant Access members getting some of the best rates.
