Is telling your kids you're “poor” actually brilliant parenting... or a secret that could backfire someday?

On this hilarious and thought-provoking episode ofBilly The Kidd In The Morning, Billy, Candice Lopez, and Producer Pooh tackle a Dirty Little Secret that has everyone divided. A local mom confesses that she and her husband have spent years convincing their children they're poor, despite being financially comfortable, all in an effort to teach gratitude, hard work, and resilience. The conversation sparks a passionate debate about parenting, money, entitlement, and whether today's kids are getting too much, too soon.

The laughs keep coming as Billy and Candice discover they both left their phones at home on the exact same morning, Producer Pooh faces criticism for his healthy sweet potatoes, and the show dives into one of the most unexpected Hot Takes yet: What's the biggest animal you think you could defeat in a fight? The answers range from house cats and koalas to Billy's surprisingly detailed alligator strategy.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
We're going to rock, baby.

Speaker 5 (00:26):
Hey, good morning. Welcome to your Wednesday. This is Mix 102.9.
Billy the Kid, Candice Lopez is here. Producer Pooh is here.
We're bright and early today, and Candice and I, we're
in shambles.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Why?

Speaker 6 (00:36):
Oh, yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
We both did the same thing this morning. I just remembered.

Speaker 5 (00:40):
I know. I usually get here a little bit earlier
than you. Not much. Pooh gets here the earliest. Yeah. Shocker,
believe it or not. Pooh's here first, then I'm usually here,
and then Candice rolls in.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Right. It's one, two, three.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Boom, boom, boom.

Speaker 5 (00:51):
Today, Candace and I roll up at the same time.

Speaker 6 (00:53):
I know.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
I saw you going through the gate and I was like, what?
It's after five.

Speaker 5 (00:57):
I know. It's weird. I was running late and I
even text Boo and I was like, hey, heads up,
I'm running late because guess what I did? I forgot
my phone at home.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Well, guess what I did? I forgot my phone at home.

Speaker 5 (01:06):
Yep. Yep.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Literally.

Speaker 5 (01:09):
We're on the same cycles, girly.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
I think we are.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Luckily, I was still in the neighborhood, so it was
easy to go back, but it sounds like you weren't
in your neighborhood.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
Oh, I was so mad. I was all the way
down Hebron, and I went to grab my phone for
something and just not there. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
And it's a whole process.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
It is.

Speaker 5 (01:26):
Turning the car around. It was only five minutes, but
it was the five minutes that just sent me into
a new rage.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Oh, yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:32):
Same.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
I just, like, took deep breaths the whole way here.

Speaker 7 (01:35):
Oh.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Because I was so upset. And then I got here
and left my phone in the car here. Luckily, I
was still in the parking garage, but I had to
turn around and go back and unplug it.

Speaker 6 (01:42):
I know.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
I was waiting for you sweating.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
I know.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Sorry.

Speaker 8 (01:44):
Thank you.

Speaker 5 (01:44):
And I was like, I'm trying to hold the door
and be nice, but you know what?

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Good luck.

Speaker 5 (01:49):
That parking garage we have downstairs... It's super sketch lately.

Speaker 9 (01:53):
Oh, yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:54):
There's the biggest spider webs. It looks like spirit came
over and decorated. I mean, there's massive spiders right above.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
Look up.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
Oh, no, I don't look up. No, I get in
the building as quick as I can.

Speaker 5 (02:08):
Okay, all right. Well, everything else good?

Speaker 3 (02:09):
Yeah, everything else is good. I got to tell you
how therapeutic popping birthday balloons is because yesterday when you left,
Zant confirmed there were 60 balloons in this studio.

Speaker 5 (02:20):
60, my nightmare.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
So I went around with a ballpoint pen and I
would like plug my ears, well, one of my ears,
and I was just like, pow, pow, pow, pow, all
of them, all over the studio.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
It was so awesome. I was watching her. I looked
and I heard. And I was like, what is that?
And I just see Kate just popping and popping. Who
were you pretending?

Speaker 5 (02:41):
Who were you pretending those balloons were?

Speaker 3 (02:43):
I actually wasn't. I was just it was like thoughts
coming out of the balloons, you know, on TV and
the commercials with like the balloons pop and like a
little thought comes out or whatever. Yeah, totally. It was like,
you know, words.

Speaker 5 (02:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
It was very therapeutic, though. So thanks for leaving that
job to me. I like to take that job for
the next birthday.

Speaker 5 (03:01):
Well, thank you. And I'm really weird about decorations, too.
So I really appreciate you, because once the party's over,
I need the decorations gone.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
See, I like to leave my decorations up all week.
I know you don't, though. That's why I just took
it in my own hands. Did that poo and Xan,
I guess, cleaned up the rest.

Speaker 5 (03:17):
Well, there wasn't much to clean up after you killed
everything in the studio. There's one balloon right here left.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
Yeah, I just left that one just to see what
would happen. That was a social experiment.

Speaker 5 (03:26):
Well, guess what happened? Nothing. But I'm the same way
when it comes to Christmas. Like, once Christmas is over,
I want the tree down the next day.

Speaker 6 (03:32):
No. I know.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
I don't like that.

Speaker 5 (03:34):
I want everything down. We're moving on.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
No.

Speaker 5 (03:36):
We are moving on. But no, Candace wants to keep
it up until April.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Take it into the new year. Oh, yeah.

Speaker 5 (03:41):
Producer Pooh is here. What's up, Pooh?

Speaker 1 (03:43):
Man, went over to my aunt's house. First of all,
I'm real mad at her. My Aunt Dean won $ 8, 000
at WinStar.

Speaker 6 (03:49):
What?

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Yes.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
No way.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
On the slots. Yes.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Good for her.

Speaker 5 (03:53):
Yes. I love it.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
And didn't even give us nothing. Why would she?

Speaker 3 (03:57):
Were you there?

Speaker 1 (03:58):
No, but I figured she.

Speaker 5 (04:00):
Why would she win? This is why we fight every
day about stuff like this.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
Eight grand?

Speaker 8 (04:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (04:05):
It's not like she won $ 17 million.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Like $ 50 bucks or something for your favorite nephew, you know?

Speaker 5 (04:10):
No. Something.

Speaker 6 (04:12):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
I wouldn't expect that.

Speaker 7 (04:14):
Why?

Speaker 1 (04:14):
She gave her daughter some money.

Speaker 5 (04:16):
It's her daughter.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Yeah, I mean, but look, I'm here. I'm family. Give
me $ 50 bucks or something. Anyway, that's not the reason
I'm mad at her. Well, I am mad about that,
but I tried cooking them sweet potatoes like y'all do.

Speaker 6 (04:28):
Oh, yeah, good.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
Yeah, a little black pepper, you know, pink Himalayan salt.
Cooked them in the oven, and they were like... what
is that and i was like that's sweet potatoes and
she was like child that's not sweet potatoes they wanted
to like they expected like the yams.

Speaker 5 (04:42):
Well yeah i mean this is the healthy.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Way of doing it this is how.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Billy and candace do it you got to try it
it's good and they were like they cook those all
the time i said yeah i like them i eat
them at work and they were like i Uh-uh, we
want some yams. I'm like, you can't do that.

Speaker 5 (05:00):
Well, I mean, yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
Brown sugar.

Speaker 5 (05:02):
I do love that. I do love sweet potatoes, like
Thanksgiving-style sweet potatoes. For sure. Your mama. Oh, because my
mom put so much butter in it. I'm surprised it
doesn't just stop our hearts immediately. Come on. And then
marshmallows on top. It turns the sweet potatoes and the
yams into a dessert. Yeah, it does. But, I mean,
they're good. I ate them last night.

Speaker 8 (05:21):
Good.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Oh, man.

Speaker 5 (05:23):
Sweet potatoes.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
So you cooked them?

Speaker 5 (05:25):
Yeah. Who does weird stuff? You went over his aunts
to cook.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Yeah, we cook either Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

Speaker 5 (05:30):
That's nice. Yeah, we go over there and cook.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Yeah, that is nice. I like that.

Speaker 5 (05:33):
It must be nice to have a family.

Speaker 6 (05:35):
Oh!

Speaker 2 (05:37):
The new Mix 102.9.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
It's Texas Top Stories on the 10s with Billy the
Kid in the morning.

Speaker 6 (05:43):
Only on the new Mix 102.9.

Speaker 5 (05:45):
Not a chance of these Usher and Chris Brown tickets. Next,
we're doing it on the 10s pretty much every hour
all day. So listen to win. Candace, what's going on?

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Well, Tropical Storm Edouard continues to weaken this morning after
making landfall off the Texas coast. Yesterday, it's bringing heavy rain.
As it moves inland just northeast of Houston. But these
bands of rain will start to make their way close
to the Metroplex. Our best chance for rain is tonight
and tomorrow. But we do have some slight chances today, too. So, yeah,

(06:13):
this is exciting. Did you see the high tomorrow?

Speaker 6 (06:15):
Yes.

Speaker 5 (06:16):
88?

Speaker 6 (06:16):
88.

Speaker 5 (06:16):
I didn't want to get too excited because I feel
like if it doesn't rain, we're not really going to
see that. It might get in the 90s. But just
the thought of 88.

Speaker 8 (06:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
Oh, clouds. Just the thought of clouds. We had some
clouds yesterday, which was really nice. But they're saying we
could just have stray thunderstorms, you know, over the next
day or so. So just a heads up.

Speaker 5 (06:34):
It's so funny this time of the year when everybody
in Texas just want to see a cloud.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
Yeah, we'll take anything.

Speaker 5 (06:39):
Just give me one little cloud.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
It makes a difference.

Speaker 5 (06:41):
I know it's hard to believe, though, because if you
talk to my friends up north trying to tell them
that we're so sick of the sun.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
They're just like, what?

Speaker 3 (06:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (06:50):
We don't want to see it. Right. I'm over it
right now.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
For real. Just make a change.

Speaker 5 (06:54):
I just want my PSL and a Snuggie.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
Yeah. Hoodie. I want football.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
It's coming.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
It's coming, guys. Let me update you on Tony Romo.
He pleaded no contest in his drunk driving case yesterday
in Wisconsin. So he is going to have his license
suspended for six months. He'll also have to attend an
alcohol assessment program. Then on top of that, he'll have
to install an ignition interlock device in his car and
also pay a fine. But Tony did post a pretty

(07:21):
long statement yesterday calling his arrest a personal failure he
owns up to completely. He explained that multiple back surgeries
from football injuries left him dependent on pain meds. He
says that led to him self-medicating with alcohol as he
was tapering off of those. He says he is working
with a team of doctors to address his health and
make the necessary changes. But, yeah, that's the latest from

(07:44):
Tony Romo. Really long statement yesterday.

Speaker 5 (07:46):
I hope he gets the help he needs. If he's
really got a problem, he makes mistakes.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 5 (07:52):
I will say, though, that thing that he's got to
put in his car.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (07:55):
You know what? That's not going to be fun, but
you've got to blow on it or your car won't start.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (08:00):
You know? So, I mean, I went on a date
one time back in the day. Yeah. And after the date,
the girl asked me if I could blow on her car.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
No.

Speaker 6 (08:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
Did you do it?

Speaker 5 (08:10):
I had advice in my car. Is there any way
you could.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Blow on it?

Speaker 3 (08:17):
Stop it.

Speaker 5 (08:18):
And I was like, what?

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Yeah, how do they get around people doing that?

Speaker 5 (08:21):
Well, because now they have a way to, it figures out.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
Facial recognition or something.

Speaker 5 (08:24):
There's some kind of way that you could do it.
You have to do it now. You have to have,
I don't know what it is, but oh, yeah. So
I didn't do it. I was like, no, I can't
do that. I'll call you a taxi or something. This
was before Uber. Yeah.

Speaker 10 (08:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (08:35):
Weird.

Speaker 5 (08:36):
I gave her Pooh's number after that.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
Guess that didn't work out.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Yeah, no.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
Guys, Netflix is now streaming a documentary about Australian Olympic
break dancer Rachel Raygun Gunn. It's called Raygun Breaking Badly.
This documentary details her zero-point performance at the 2024 Olympics.
Paris Olympics. And then, you know, all the backlash that
came next.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
Yeah, I felt bad for her.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
I did, too. And now hearing kind of what's in
this documentary, I guess she talks, you know, about a
therapy session she had just before the Olympics where she
was kind of panicking. And her therapist asked her, you know,
what's the worst outcome that could come from this? And
she said the whole world could laugh at me. And
the therapist said, do you think that's reasonable? Then it
cuts to, you know, hysterical laughing. But I guess at

(09:23):
the time she didn't tell her therapist, you know, I'm
going to go out and do the sprinkler and the
kangaroo jumps and all that stuff.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
I mean, it was wild.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
It was wild.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
It was a wild performance.

Speaker 5 (09:31):
If you remember, it was just, she was in that
green jumpsuit. Remember, everybody was hurt for Halloween. Right. I'll
just never forget that. I thought to myself, I need
friends like that.

Speaker 10 (09:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (09:40):
Whatever friends she has, I need in my life because
her confidence was on another level. She had like little
kid confidence.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
Oh.

Speaker 5 (09:46):
You know what I mean? She just went out there
and just did her sprinkler.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
Right. Just do a cartwheel randomly.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
And the freaking Olympics.

Speaker 5 (09:52):
Oh.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
Yeah, I just I want to watch this because I
want to understand because we thought she's got to be joking.

Speaker 5 (09:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
You know what I mean? How do you make it
to the Olympics in the first place?

Speaker 5 (10:02):
There's a documentary I wanted to watch that I just
saw on Netflix. Oh, I want to watch the one
on Travis Barker.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
And did you see that? No, and I put that
on my calendar when it came out, and I still
haven't had time to watch it. But so much good
docs out right now.

Speaker 5 (10:15):
There is, and I have no time to watch it.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
I know, same. Too busy in my.

Speaker 5 (10:18):
Pool with my buns up.

Speaker 10 (10:19):
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:21):
I'll watch it when we go on break for Christmas, probably.

Speaker 5 (10:23):
By the way, I heard, I think somebody heard yesterday
that I was tanning with my buns out.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
Oh, did they?

Speaker 5 (10:28):
In my pool, because guess what was over my house yesterday?

Speaker 1 (10:30):
A drone?

Speaker 5 (10:31):
It was a drone.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
Was it really?

Speaker 5 (10:34):
Someone, I don't know if it's the government, but someone's
trying to sneak a peek at my buns.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (10:41):
Yeah, maybe it was a Walmart drone.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
It could have been.

Speaker 5 (10:44):
Maybe they thought it was a landing spot.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
It was so flat.

Speaker 10 (10:47):
Oh, my God.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
All right. I'm Candace Lopez. Those are your Texas Top Stories.

Speaker 5 (10:51):
A little secret at 730. Hopefully having the best day
ever so far. If not, do something to change it.
Make it happen. It's got to be a great day today.
It's going to be good.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
Good, I like this attitude.

Speaker 5 (11:00):
See, thank you. I'm a new person, Candace Lopez. Yesterday
I was a curmudgeon. Not today. Okay, not today. It's

Speaker 1 (11:13):

Speaker 3 (11:16):
Congratulations!

Speaker 5 (11:19):
There you go, Ashton. Where are you from?

Speaker 7 (11:21):

Speaker 5 (11:23):
Oh, Benbrook.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
Okay, nice.

Speaker 5 (11:24):
What are you doing this morning?

Speaker 11 (11:25):
We're currently in the Starbucks line heading to school.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
Oh, nice.

Speaker 5 (11:30):
Now, I see you're lucky that you get to go
to Starbucks before school. What are you guys getting? What's
your order at Starbucks? This shows a lot about a person.

Have a great day.

Speaker 5 (12:01):
Tell your kids to have a good day at school, too.

Speaker 10 (12:02):
I sure will.

Speaker 11 (12:03):
Thank you.

Speaker 5 (12:04):
And shout out to all the parents. These kids don't
know how lucky they are.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
Seriously.

Speaker 5 (12:07):
To be able to go to Starbucks before school.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
Oh, yeah. We didn't get that.

Speaker 5 (12:11):
I don't even think I had water before school. I
don't think I drank water until I was 18.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Oh, yeah.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
For sure. Maybe only at sports.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
Right? Do you remember?

Speaker 3 (12:20):
That's literally it.

Speaker 5 (12:21):
Kids, I'm telling you now, drink water. We didn't drink
water as kids, and look at us. We're messed up.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (12:26):
I didn't.

Speaker 10 (12:27):
Dr.

Speaker 3 (12:27):
Pepper for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Speaker 5 (12:28):
Oh, I had a Dr. Pepper for lunch.

Speaker 6 (12:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (12:31):
Yeah, it was whatever. All right. Real or fake news,
are you ready, Candace?

Speaker 4 (12:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (12:35):
Poo, you ready?

Speaker 1 (12:36):
I'm ready.

Speaker 5 (12:37):
All right. Headline number one. You got to tell me,
out of these three stories, which one is fake? It's
a little game we play to start the day and
get your mind moving. Okay. Headline number one. California man
arrested once again for sniffing butts.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
Oh, my gosh.

Speaker 5 (12:51):
California man arrested once again for sniffing butts. Why? Okay.
Headline number two. New studies show sleeping with a fan
on may actually improve memory.

Speaker 6 (13:02):
Huh.

Speaker 5 (13:03):
New studies show sleeping with a fan on may actually
improve memory.

Speaker 10 (13:07):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (13:08):
That is headline number two. Headline number three. Thief steals
40,000 pounds of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer. Thief steals 40,000
pounds of.
Of Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer. Three headlines right there. You've
got to tell me which one. Is the fake one.
It's kind of tough today, I think.

Speaker 8 (13:27):
It is.

Speaker 5 (13:28):
I don't know. Candace, you want to go first? You
want to pass it to LaPoopoo? What you want to do?

Speaker 3 (13:31):
What did I do yesterday? I went first yesterday?

Speaker 5 (13:33):
Yeah, you were greedy yesterday.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
I'm going to be greedy again today and go first.
Lock me in for the second story.

Speaker 5 (13:37):
She's trying to win.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
The fan and the memory.

Speaker 5 (13:40):
You don't think so? See, that makes sense to me.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
I don't know. I keep hearing bad things about sleeping
with the fan on.

Speaker 5 (13:45):
Of course.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
And sound machines and all this stuff.

Speaker 5 (13:48):
Now I got to know why.

Speaker 3 (13:49):
I don't know. It does something to your brain. I
don't know. Lock it in.

Speaker 5 (13:52):
Okay, I'm going to lock it in right now. Then
I'm a mess because I have to sleep with a
fan on.

Speaker 10 (13:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (13:58):
Do you?

Speaker 3 (13:58):
I turned it on last night. Yeah, because it was
very hot.

Speaker 5 (14:01):
But even in the winter, I sleep with a fan on. Same.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
Yeah, I have to.

Speaker 5 (14:04):
Yeah, Pooh sleeps in the nude.

Speaker 3 (14:06):
For the air or the sound or both?

Speaker 5 (14:07):
In the nude with a fan on. Wait, what? What'd
you say?

Speaker 1 (14:11):
Yeah, you know, I'm a bear. I hibernate in the winter,
you know?

Speaker 3 (14:14):
A grizzly bear?

Speaker 5 (14:15):
Yeah. Oh, or like an Oaklawn bear.

Speaker 4 (14:17):
Oh, God.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
Let me be quiet. Hey, we love you no matter what.

Speaker 5 (14:22):
This is the second time on the show he said
he's a bear.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
I know. He's a poo bear.

Speaker 5 (14:27):
Just tell us. All right, you're locked in, Candace. Producer,
which one do you think is the fake story?

Speaker 1 (14:33):
That last story is still at 40 pounds of Pabst
Blue Ribbon Beer.

Speaker 5 (14:37):
You think that's fake?

Speaker 1 (14:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (14:38):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
Lock me in.

Speaker 5 (14:40):
Why do you think that's fake if you think somebody's
going to? Steal a beer, it's not going to be PBR?

Speaker 1 (14:44):
No, uh-uh. I'd steal Bud Light or something like that.
Well worth it.

Speaker 5 (14:50):
Wow, the hate is real. You are locked in.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
Locked in.

Speaker 5 (14:54):
The winner today is, I can't believe it. Yeah, I can. Candace.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
Candace.

Speaker 5 (14:59):
Candace.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
Candace.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
Candace.

Speaker 5 (15:05):
Congratulations, Candice.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
You are correct.

Speaker 5 (15:07):
I made that study up. In my head, it made sense. Okay.
That sleeping with a fan on might improve your memory
because in my dumb head, it was giving you more
oxygen to your brain.

Speaker 6 (15:15):
Oh.

Speaker 5 (15:16):
It's really just pushing the same oxygen towards you.

Speaker 6 (15:20):
Right.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
We've already used that oxygen.

Speaker 5 (15:22):
Yeah, it doesn't matter. My whole point is, but I
gotta have a fan. I can't believe you just don't,
sometimes just don't sleep with a fan.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
You're a weird sleeper.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
Sometimes I don't, but I have lately.

Speaker 5 (15:31):
And you have bad nights of sleeping. You need to
sleep with a fan on.

Speaker 3 (15:34):
Well, I had the fan on last night and I
had a bad night of sleep. I just don't sleep good.

Speaker 5 (15:38):
What are you doing? Are you dreaming bad?

Speaker 3 (15:40):
Yeah, I had bad dreams last night for sure.

Speaker 5 (15:42):
You need to take some of those NyQuil tablets.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
Well, I would. I usually take magnesium before bed on
the weekend, but I can't come out of the fog
this early in the morning. That's a problem.

Speaker 5 (15:51):
I'm still in the fog, so.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
Right.

Speaker 5 (15:54):
Let's go over the real stories. That one's fake. You won, Candace.
A serial butt sniffer arrested once again in California.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
What?

Speaker 6 (16:01):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (16:01):
California man arrested once again for sniffing butts. Can't take
this guy anywhere. California man known for repeatedly getting too
close to people and smelling their behinds has been arrested
once again in Glendale.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
Oh, I live there.

Speaker 5 (16:13):
Yeah, I know. You would have been next.

Speaker 7 (16:15):
No.

Speaker 5 (16:17):
Police say 39-year-old Khalees Crowder was reported Friday at a
store on West Glen Oaks Boulevard where witnesses said he
crouched down, moved closely to people to smell their butts.

Speaker 6 (16:30):
Oh.

Speaker 5 (16:31):
Officers also received a report of a similar incident at
nearby Marshalls.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
Not Marshalls.

Speaker 7 (16:36):
Oh, wow.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
You can't be doing that in Marshalls.

Speaker 6 (16:37):
Come on.

Speaker 5 (16:37):
That's some Ross activity.

Speaker 7 (16:39):
It is.

Speaker 3 (16:40):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (16:42):
Don't do that in Marshalls. Marshalls is next level classy joint.

Speaker 7 (16:46):
Is it?

Speaker 6 (16:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (16:47):
But the point is, take that to TJ Maxx.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
That's a nice door.

Speaker 5 (16:52):
That's a Burlington Code activity.

Speaker 3 (16:55):
Hobby Lobby.

Speaker 5 (16:57):
Either way, this guy's done this before many times. Jeez.
I know.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
Stop.

Speaker 5 (17:02):
How many times do we have to tell you, Khalees?

Speaker 3 (17:04):
Literally, stop.

Speaker 5 (17:05):
And this guy just looks like he would be sniffing booty.

Speaker 11 (17:08):
Oh.

Speaker 5 (17:08):
He really does. So, yep. Hopefully, you can throw that
guy in jail and just forget about it. Now, this
other story, Thief's Steel, 40,000 pounds. 40,000 pounds of PBR,
Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer. My grandpa used to drink that.

Speaker 3 (17:24):
He loved it.

Speaker 5 (17:25):
Some PBR. PBR. Out of the can. Either way, this
happened in California.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
What's up with California?

Speaker 3 (17:32):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (17:32):
Sometimes it's Florida. Sometimes it's like Florida for real. Yeah.
So I guess this guy, what happened is these thieves,
this was a ring. Multiple people were involved in this heist.

Speaker 6 (17:42):
Huh.

Speaker 5 (17:43):
So they got a truck and they go to the factory,
to the Pabst Blue Ribbon factory with like a fake invoice.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
No.

Speaker 5 (17:50):
To pick up beer.

Speaker 7 (17:51):
Huh.

Speaker 5 (17:52):
And they're like, yeah, back it up.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
And they just load case after case.

Speaker 6 (17:56):
No.

Speaker 5 (17:57):
A PBR in there, about $ 70, 000 worth. Jeez. Then they
go take that somewhere and they go back. What? Yeah,
you won't believe this. Got another invoice. Greedy. Well, man,
someone's drinking a lot of PBR. Back it up over
there and stall nine.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (18:14):
Loading them up again with a whole other case.

Speaker 6 (18:17):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (18:17):
So that was another $ 25, 000 worth of beer. They got
over $ 90, 000 in beer, 34,000 cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon.
And you know what? Shout out to PBR, because what
they did is they just changed it into, like, a
marketing stunt.

Speaker 3 (18:32):
Oh, really? Yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
Oh, yeah, that is smart.

Speaker 5 (18:34):
I mean, really, it is. They were just like, hey,
I know you want some Pabst Blue Ribbon, but you
don't have to steal it. So they said to the thief,
we don't fault you for wanting to brag to your
friends about how much PBR you have. We just wish
you had obtained it in an honorable way. They also said,
this is a real story, we're deadly serious, but maybe
you could bring some of the PBR back to share

(18:56):
with others. So, was that like your go-to beer in college?
Not that you should drink in college, but what was
your go-to drink back in the day, Candice?

Speaker 3 (19:04):
I don't know. I think Heineken at one point, because
I found out Justin Timberlake drank it. Like, what does
that taste like? Did you see her laugh?

Speaker 5 (19:13):
She goes....

Speaker 1 (19:15):
This is so silly.

Speaker 5 (19:18):
So you started drinking Heineken because.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
Well, it.

Speaker 3 (19:21):
Was like a whole thing for a minute.

Speaker 5 (19:23):
You were so obsessed.

Speaker 3 (19:24):
For like two seconds. Not with him, but like Heineken.

Speaker 5 (19:27):
No, I was going to say, you're still obsessed with him.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
Well, not like I used to be.

Speaker 5 (19:31):
No, back in the day, you literally stalked them.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
I loved NSYNC. Yeah, I went to like every show ever.

Speaker 5 (19:37):
Every show in multiple cities. You were pretty much on
tour with them.

Speaker 6 (19:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
Well, I had friends that worked for them.

Speaker 5 (19:42):
Do you ever look back and go, maybe I was
a little too much?

Speaker 3 (19:46):
No, I don't. No, I don't.

Speaker 7 (19:49):
I know.

Speaker 5 (19:50):
You're drinking PBR or Heineken right now. Morning. It's Mix 102.9.
And my name is Bailey the Kid. Candace is here.
Candace Lopez. So is Pooh. You know what? Can I
ask you a question? Because maybe yesterday was my birthday.
Maybe I'm just getting older, but the older I get,
two things are happening. And I'm like, this is weird.
I want to get rid of everything I own.

Speaker 3 (20:09):
Oh, okay. Yeah, that's a midlife thing, I think.

Speaker 5 (20:12):
Whoa.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
Well, it is.

Speaker 5 (20:13):
Okay, I didn't need to be called old.

Speaker 10 (20:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (20:16):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 3 (20:17):
Well, I mean, we're all in the same boat.

Speaker 5 (20:18):
I just want to get rid of things. Like, I
don't want clutter. I just want to get rid of things, too.
And then, too, I want to clean everything. I don't
know why, all of a sudden, and I'm never, I'm
not like a clean, like, you're a clean freak.

Speaker 3 (20:28):
No, I'm not at all.

Speaker 8 (20:30):
Really?

Speaker 6 (20:30):
No.

Speaker 5 (20:31):
I always thought you were a clean freak. No.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
You're dirty? I mean, I don't like germs, but I'm
not a clean freak.

Speaker 5 (20:36):
I don't think anybody loves germs.

Speaker 3 (20:37):
I think it's a little different.

Speaker 5 (20:38):
Nobody's out here loving germs.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
You know what I mean. There's a difference.

Speaker 5 (20:42):
No, but have you noticed the older you get, you
want to get rid of things?

Speaker 4 (20:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (20:45):
Like, I don't want clutter. I'm like, what's in this drawer?
Why do I need any of this? And I just
throw things away.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
It also happens when the seasons change. Like, you're ready
for fall. You're ready to turn the page and start fresh.
Am I turning the page? It's like spring cleaning, like
fall cleaning.

Speaker 6 (20:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (20:57):
Maybe I am, but it brought me to this story
because you know I love a good list, and I
know you hate germs, and I thought you were a
clean freak. Maybe I should just throw this away.

Speaker 3 (21:04):
I mean, I'm not a clean freak. I like cleanliness
for sure.

Speaker 5 (21:07):
Is Eric, your husband, cleaner than you?

Speaker 6 (21:09):
Yes.

Speaker 5 (21:09):
See, okay, maybe he's who I'm thinking of. For sure.
He's like totally OCD. Yeah. Okay, items in your house
that are dirtier than a toilet seat.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
Okay.

Speaker 8 (21:18):
What?

Speaker 5 (21:18):
They did an actual study on this.

Speaker 3 (21:20):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (21:21):
And it's items that you, okay, you can take a guess,
because a lot of stuff I'm like, no way this
is dirtier than, what could be dirtier than a toilet seat?

Speaker 3 (21:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (21:28):
Toilet seats are gross. Oh, toilet seats are gross.

Speaker 3 (21:31):
What's dirtier than the toilet seat? I mean, the floor?

Speaker 5 (21:35):
Okay, you think the floor, yeah, you're a weirdo when
it comes to, everybody's going to take their shoes off.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (21:38):
I hate houses like that.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
Is toothbrush on that list?

Speaker 6 (21:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (21:43):
Toothbrush? You think your toothbrush is dirtier than a toilet seat?
What's going on in your mouth?

Speaker 1 (21:49):
No, I'm just saying your tongue.

Speaker 3 (21:51):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (21:52):
What about your tongue? Your tongue has bacteria on it.
That's why you've got to brush it. Well, I know,
but I've got a tongue scraper. Yeah, I know, but
scrape my tongue. Do you clean your tongue scraper? Yes.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
Okay, so I'm just asking, you know, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (22:07):
Do you have a tongue scraper? Yes.

Speaker 3 (22:08):
You put toothpaste on it every day, multiple times a day,
so that should clean it, right?

Speaker 1 (22:12):
Hopefully.

Speaker 3 (22:13):
Your toothbrush?

Speaker 5 (22:14):
I don't know if toothpaste actually is like a... Sanitizer, though.

Speaker 10 (22:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (22:17):
Well, I mean, it's got to be cleaner than your
toilet seat.

Speaker 5 (22:20):
That's another thing. Someone who uses their toothbrush for like
three years and never changes it.

Speaker 10 (22:24):
Oh, yeah.

Speaker 5 (22:25):
I'm going to lose my mind.

Speaker 6 (22:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (22:27):
Something wrong with your mouth, Blair.

Speaker 5 (22:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
Well, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (22:30):
I'm a little bit. No, but I don't think toothbrush
was on the list. I hope not.

Speaker 1 (22:33):
Okay. Okay.

Speaker 5 (22:34):
You want the top five, Candice?

Speaker 6 (22:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (22:35):
Because number five is something that people don't think is dirtier,
but it's actually dirtier than toilet seat and you need
to wash it right now.

Speaker 3 (22:41):
What?

Speaker 5 (22:42):
Your coffee reservoir.

Speaker 3 (22:44):
Oh, yes.

Speaker 5 (22:46):
Let me tell you how disgusting those things are. If
you have like a Keurig, the reservoir in your coffee,
just refilling it.

Speaker 3 (22:52):
Yeah, you have to descale and do all that stuff.
I worry about our one here at work because I'm like,
who's descaling that and cleaning it and doing whatever?

Speaker 5 (22:59):
I'll tell you who.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
Nobody. I saw the company come clean it out.

Speaker 3 (23:04):
Yeah, I think they have a schedule. Because it's like
a corporate one.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
They better. They come clean.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
It. I'm drinking that coffee right now.

Speaker 5 (23:14):
I don't get coffee here anyway.

Speaker 3 (23:15):
I don't want to, but I don't have a choice sometimes.

Speaker 5 (23:18):
You're Reservoir Dirty. You got a dirty reservoir. And number
four on the list, the actually dirtiest items in your house.
Number four was your pet bowl.

Speaker 3 (23:28):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (23:29):
If you have a pet, the bowl, the food bowl. Because,
I mean, I do wash mine. Yeah. But people don't
wash it every day. Yeah. Right. They say you should
wash it every day because it is nasty.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (23:40):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (23:41):
Actually, number three kind of shocks me. Your toothbrush holder.

Speaker 6 (23:45):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (23:45):
Oh, the holder.

Speaker 10 (23:46):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (23:47):
After you brush your dirty tongue.

Speaker 3 (23:49):
Interesting.

Speaker 5 (23:50):
You're putting it in there, and it's just holding germs.
That's what it's holding.

Speaker 3 (23:52):
Right.

Speaker 5 (23:53):
Number two on the list is your kitchen sink.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
Okay. That makes sense.

Speaker 6 (23:59):
Dirty.

Speaker 1 (24:00):
How does a kitchen sink?

Speaker 5 (24:00):
Your kitchen sink, poo, I've seen it. It's got a
pink ring.

Speaker 1 (24:04):
No, no.

Speaker 5 (24:05):
Your kitchen sink be dirty.

Speaker 1 (24:07):
It's dirty as steel.

Speaker 5 (24:08):
No, but they say it doesn't matter. It can still
be dirty.

Speaker 9 (24:10):
No.

Speaker 1 (24:12):
I even clean my disposal. I cut a lemon. Put
it down there and turn the disposal on?

Speaker 5 (24:17):
Yeah, no, so do I. I do that. I buy
those little pods you throw down there.

Speaker 3 (24:19):
Yeah, those are nice.

Speaker 5 (24:20):
And then you put some vinegar down there, too, and
some lemon.

Speaker 1 (24:23):
Okay, yeah.

Speaker 5 (24:24):
Distilled vinegar. You got to do that down your pipes
every once in a while.

Speaker 1 (24:28):
Yeah, you do.

Speaker 5 (24:29):
Because your pipes will get clogged.

Speaker 3 (24:30):
For sure.

Speaker 6 (24:31):
All right.

Speaker 5 (24:32):
Number one, dirtiest item in your entire household.

Speaker 7 (24:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (24:35):
What do you think it is? The dirtiest, nastiest item
in your house right now.

Speaker 3 (24:39):
Oh, my gosh. Why is it so hard?

Speaker 1 (24:40):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (24:41):
The floor.

Speaker 5 (24:42):
No, it's not the floor, Candace.

Speaker 1 (24:44):
Okay. Who? Your pillowcase?

Speaker 7 (24:46):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (24:47):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
You said guess.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
How are you going to ask me to guess and
then you.

Speaker 5 (24:51):
Look at me crazy?

Speaker 3 (24:52):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (24:52):
Because who says your pillowcase is dirty?

Speaker 1 (24:55):
No, I wash my stuff.

Speaker 5 (24:56):
Do you take your pillowcase off and your pillow's brown?
Don't lie. You got brown stains.

Speaker 3 (25:01):
On your pillow?

Speaker 1 (25:03):
To you?

Speaker 5 (25:05):
Who said he dated a girl one time he took
her pillowcase off and it had a brown stain?

Speaker 3 (25:09):
Is it your trash can?

Speaker 6 (25:11):
No.

Speaker 5 (25:13):
Number one on the list, dirtiest item in your house
right now.

Speaker 3 (25:16):
Remote control.

Speaker 1 (25:18):
Nope.

Speaker 5 (25:18):
Your dish, sponge, or rag. Number one on the list.
They say there's more bacteria on that thing than anything
else in your house. It's 5,000 times dirtier than money
or your toilet seat. Money's dirty. Let me ask you this, Pooh.
Can I ask you this? I think you told me
you did this. Are you the person who washes your

(25:40):
chicken before you cook it?

Speaker 6 (25:41):
No.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
No, I don't do that.

Speaker 5 (25:44):
People do this.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
I remember it was a hot debate for a minute.

Speaker 1 (25:47):
I think that's weird.

Speaker 5 (25:48):
But with soap.

Speaker 3 (25:50):
With soap?

Speaker 5 (25:52):
Hand to God, I know somebody who washes their chicken
breasts before they cook it with Dawn soap.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
That is nasty.

Speaker 1 (25:58):
Why would you do that?

Speaker 5 (26:00):
If you wash your chicken with Dawn soap or any
kind of soap, I want to know what's the method.
There's no way that's all coming off.

Speaker 6 (26:09):
833-787-1029.

Speaker 5 (26:09):
No, they wash it with soap and then they cook it.

Speaker 11 (26:12):
Weird.

Speaker 5 (26:13):
That's nasty. Not even kidding you. Too much work. And
then after all that, put no seasoning on it. candace
no i've seen your chicken yeah you season with thoughts
and prayers.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
The new mix 102.9.

Speaker 4 (26:28):
Texas top stories on the tens with billy the kid
in the.

Speaker 6 (26:31):
Morning only on the new mix 102.9 got a.

Speaker 5 (26:34):
Chance to get these usher and chris brown tickets coming
up next we're doing it all day on the tens
and even a shot to get on that vip riser Yeah.
Which that's like the VIP VIP section. If you win that,
because you get like a full on little private dance possibly.

Speaker 3 (26:50):
Yeah, they come through. Right.

Speaker 5 (26:51):
Oh, yeah. With Chris Brown or Usher. You never know
who's got who might come through. Somebody might come through
and just be like, what's up, girl? Oh, I don't
know about Pujon Love. That's a little more special than
ushering Chris Brown. But anyway, shot to win next. Candace,
what's going on?

Speaker 3 (27:07):
Well, a North Texas couple is going to federal prison
after pleading guilty in a wire fraud case involving fake
custom home projects. So according to court records, this couple
defrauded more than 40 people from over six different counties
in the Metroplex over the course of about three years.
So they were offering to do custom home projects well

(27:28):
below market price. And then, you know, they would take
a couple payments from these victims, then just abandon the
projects or just not do the work that they promised.
The guy involved in this admitted, you know, he was,
in fact, not a licensed architect like he told these
people he was. But this involved at least 24 different
construction projects and around $ 4. 2 million in losses for these victims.

Speaker 6 (27:51):
Geez.

Speaker 3 (27:52):
Um, yeah, I hate seeing people taking advantage of like this.
I think there was a couple, uh, that came out
a few months ago saying like, we just don't have
a house. Like they just left us. Um, they've been
living with family for months. Um, but the defense attorneys
claimed that their business started out as an honest business,
but because of struggles during the pandemic, they made a
series of poor decisions. You know, the other side is like, no,

(28:15):
this was intentional.

Speaker 5 (28:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
You're ripping people off.

Speaker 5 (28:18):
Millions of dollars. Obviously you have a whole motive and
a system set up. You don't do that by accident
multiple times.

Speaker 6 (28:23):
Right.

Speaker 3 (28:24):
Yeah. That's a lot of money. Happy that these people
are going to get justice in that case, though. And
we mentioned this on Monday that Miley Cyrus changed her
Instagram handle to just say Miley. Now we have the
new album announcement we were all expecting. It's called Bass
Persuades and It's going to be out September 18th. This
will be her 10th studio album. Miley also announced she'll

(28:46):
be playing two shows at the Hollywood Bowl in October. But, yeah,
that happened pretty much right after our show yesterday.

Speaker 5 (28:52):
Yeah, which I'm curious how this album is going to
sound because it's been a minute since she's put something out.
I mean, she put something out, but like a full album,
I guess.

Speaker 6 (29:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
Who knows?

Speaker 5 (29:01):
Because her sound is all over the place.

Speaker 3 (29:02):
Yeah, and all the teaser videos show her playing guitar.
And so I'm curious, too. I think Apple Music was
commenting on that post saying a new era of Miley
is coming. Yeah, we'll see in just a couple of weeks. Guys,
it's obviously pumpkin spice season. Here's the latest product to
go pumpkin. Mylanta just announced two limited edition fall harvest

(29:28):
liquid antacids. No. Yeah, it's going viral this morning. Pumpkin
spice and spiced apple cider.

Speaker 5 (29:34):
Do you drink that? Do you drink this, Mylanta? What
is it?

Speaker 3 (29:38):
Yeah, it's heartburn.

Speaker 5 (29:39):
Let me ask the old person on the show, too. Wow.

Speaker 3 (29:41):
Yeah, I don't, but yeah.

Speaker 5 (29:45):
What do you drink Mylanta for? Is it heartburn? Yeah,
if you have heartburn, yeah. I think my grandpa used
to drink it.

Speaker 7 (29:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (29:51):
Oh, Mylanta.

Speaker 3 (29:52):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 5 (29:53):
Is that why they say that? Yeah.

Speaker 1 (29:55):
What the?

Speaker 3 (29:55):
That was a big thing in like middle school. We'd say, oh,
my Atlanta.

Speaker 5 (29:58):
I never knew that that was where that came from.

Speaker 6 (30:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (30:01):
Yeah. So this is just a limited time thing. They're
on Amazon. They'll go to select retailers, but not everywhere.
But the list of like weird pumpkin products like the
dude wipes.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (30:11):
Pumpkin Spice Dude Wipes.

Speaker 5 (30:12):
They were good. I had those.

Speaker 3 (30:13):
Yeah, I liked those too.

Speaker 1 (30:14):
They smelled okay.

Speaker 5 (30:15):
They smelled all right. Pumpkin Spice Dude Wipes are not bad.

Speaker 3 (30:18):
But there's like Pumpkin Spice Toilet Paper, Trash Bags, Pumpkin
Spice Spam.

Speaker 5 (30:22):
Ooh, Pumpkin Spice Spam.

Speaker 1 (30:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (30:26):
Our show's actually flavored Pumpkin Spice.

Speaker 3 (30:28):
That's good.

Speaker 5 (30:28):
You can taste our show right now. I don't know
actually what it would taste like. I don't know if
it's pumpkin spice.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
A little hint of cinnamon today.

Speaker 1 (30:37):
And regret. There you go.

Speaker 3 (30:38):
All right. I'm Candace Lopez. Those are your Texas Top Stories.

Speaker 5 (30:41):
We have a banger we're about to do. First thing
in the morning to get your day going on Mix 102.9.
It's Peely the Kid, Candace Lopez, Producer Pooh. Dirty Little
Secret is next, but I'm so excited. This is what,
to me, makes this job so much fun when I
get to do stuff like this.

Speaker 1 (30:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (30:56):
You know, we're doing this big campaign. iHeartRadio is doing
a massive campaign doing Thank a Teacher, and it's powered
by DonorsChoose. And it's just our way of, I mean,
there's so many amazing teachers that deserve the recognition. And
this one has no idea what I'm about to do.

Speaker 3 (31:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (31:12):
But check this out. Is this Kim? Is she on
the phone? Is this Kim?

Speaker 7 (31:14):
Yes, it is.

Speaker 10 (31:15):
Good morning.

Speaker 5 (31:16):
Good morning, Kim.

Speaker 6 (31:17):
How are you?

Speaker 1 (31:17):
I'm great.

Speaker 5 (31:18):
How are you? So good. This is Billy the Kid.
Candace Lopez is here. Producer Poo is here. And we're
doing Thank a Teacher, and it's powered by DonorsChoose. And
we called you just to get you on the phone
because I heard you're an amazing teacher. And we had
some people nominate you to say how great you are,
including your friend, Kimiko. Do you know Kimiko?

Speaker 8 (31:39):
I do.

Speaker 10 (31:40):
I've had two of her children.

Speaker 5 (31:43):
Really? And you're in Arlington, right? What school are you at?

Speaker 10 (31:46):
I'm at Atherton Elementary.

Speaker 5 (31:48):
Oh, that's right. Which I heard is an awesome school, obviously,
if it has teachers like you. Can I read you, Kim,
what she wrote about you?

Speaker 8 (31:54):
Absolutely.

Speaker 10 (31:57):
Absolutely.

Speaker 5 (31:57):
So Kimiko wrote us and I thought it was so touching.
She said she is one of the teachers I recommend
for her kindness, caring and genuine love for education. I've
seen her work with students with unique skills and handling
it professionally. She has never backed down from a challenge
and she has done it with grace. It's time for

(32:18):
the world to know how wonderful she is as a teacher.

Speaker 4 (32:21):
Oh.

Speaker 5 (32:22):
Oh, my gosh.

Speaker 10 (32:23):
I'm driving, and I'm tearing up.

Speaker 6 (32:26):
Oh.

Speaker 5 (32:26):
It's people like you, teachers like you, that make such
a big difference in our world. One way we wanted
to thank you is we're giving you a $ 5, 000 gift
card from DonorsChoose so you can get whatever you want
for your classroom.

Speaker 10 (32:39):
Oh, my gosh.

Speaker 3 (32:40):
$ 5, 000, Kim.

Speaker 5 (32:42):
$ 5, 000. Thank you.

Speaker 3 (32:46):
You deserve it.

Speaker 10 (32:47):
Oh, my goodness. I'm in shock.

Speaker 7 (32:50):
I'm speechless.

Speaker 10 (32:51):
I really am. There are so many teachers out there
so deserving of this.

Speaker 5 (32:57):
And you're one of them.

Speaker 10 (32:59):
Oh, thank you.

Speaker 5 (33:01):
You are. And I wish we could do this for
every teacher. But, I mean, this is just one of
many gift cards that we are giving out because you
guys deserve it. You really do. So I hope this
helps your classroom.

Speaker 10 (33:11):
It will. And honestly, I spend the majority of the
money on my classroom store.

Speaker 1 (33:18):
Oh, wow.

Speaker 10 (33:19):
I use it for rewards and incentives. It's wonderful. And
I plan to get back to my school as well.

Speaker 3 (33:26):
I want to help and give to the teachers and
the other students as well.

Speaker 10 (33:30):
So thank you all so much.

Speaker 5 (33:33):
Well, teachers like you just make the biggest difference in
our world, Kim. So thank you. Enjoy this money.

Speaker 10 (33:38):
Happy birthday, by the way.

Speaker 3 (33:40):
Oh, thank you.

Speaker 5 (33:41):
I appreciate that. And you're the best.

Speaker 10 (33:43):
We love your show. Thank you guys for brightening our day.

Speaker 3 (33:47):
Thank you, Kim.

Speaker 5 (33:48):
It's our pleasure, Kim. Thank you for making such a
big difference in these kids' lives.

Speaker 3 (33:52):
And the parents, because we need teachers that we can
trust to be with our kids more than they're with
us sometimes. It means a lot for us to be
able to have our kids in someone's hands like you.

Speaker 5 (34:02):
Yeah, thank you, Kim.

Speaker 1 (34:03):
Thank you.

Speaker 10 (34:04):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
Oh, my gosh.

Speaker 10 (34:05):
I feel so blessed. Thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (34:07):
You're so welcome.

Speaker 5 (34:08):
You stay right there. Hold on, Kim. You see, you
made me cry.

Speaker 3 (34:11):
I know.

Speaker 5 (34:12):
That's what it's all about. It's time to confess.

Speaker 2 (34:15):
It's Dirty Little Secret with Billy the Kid in the
Morning on Mix 102.9. Brought to you by Mint Dentistry.

Speaker 5 (34:21):
Yes, it's time to confess right now. It's Billy the Kid,
Candace Lopez, producer Pooh. By the way, I know people
want these Usher and I almost said Lil Wayne tickets.
Not Lil Wayne, Chris Brown. Lil Wayne was here not
too long ago.

Speaker 1 (34:32):
He was, yeah.

Speaker 5 (34:33):
Either way, if you want these tickets, we're doing it
on the 10s pretty much every hour, all day. So
make sure you listen. A chance to get on that
VIP riser, too, which who knows what will happen to
you on that VIP riser because that's the riser where
Chris Brown sometimes just hops on over, takes his shirt off,
and just gives you a private show. And then causes
a divorce.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
Yeah, he does.

Speaker 5 (34:52):
It might be Usher. It might be Chris Brown. You
don't know. So there's a chance at that. I'm just
giving you a heads up.

Speaker 3 (34:56):
Well, thanks for the heads up.

Speaker 5 (34:58):
Yeah. I had no idea. Imagine going to this show
and all of a sudden Chris Brown's got his shirt off.

Speaker 6 (35:02):
Oh, hey.

Speaker 5 (35:03):
And he's like, you know.

Speaker 3 (35:04):
No thanks.

Speaker 5 (35:05):
Well, some people like that.

Speaker 1 (35:06):
Yeah, no.

Speaker 3 (35:07):
I hear you.

Speaker 5 (35:08):
Who will be on that riser?

Speaker 9 (35:09):
No, I won't.

Speaker 5 (35:11):
Either way, 833-787-1029. If you have a confession, a secret,
this is what we do, and you have one. Let's
do it.

Speaker 8 (35:19):
All right.

Speaker 11 (35:19):
So my husband and I have been lying to our
kids pretty much their entire lives.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
What?

Speaker 1 (35:26):
About what?

Speaker 6 (35:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (35:27):
We tell them they're poor.

Speaker 1 (35:29):
Wait.

Speaker 3 (35:30):
Seriously?

Speaker 1 (35:31):
You tell them they're poor or you're poor.

Speaker 5 (35:34):
Or everyone's poor?

Speaker 7 (35:35):
Well, we are poor, yeah.

Speaker 5 (35:36):
You do, but you're not poor. Okay.

Speaker 8 (35:39):
What?

Speaker 3 (35:41):
How old are they?

Speaker 7 (35:43):
So basically, our kids are five and eight. We have
a boy and a girl.

Speaker 11 (35:46):
And right now, they don't really know any better. But
our plan is to just keep this going for as
long as we possibly can.

Speaker 7 (35:53):
But the truth is, we're not poor at all.

Speaker 11 (35:56):
But we tell them that we are.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (36:01):
So, yeah. I guess why?

Speaker 7 (36:03):
Well, okay. So here's the deal.

Speaker 11 (36:04):
My husband and I have really good jobs. We save
a ton of money. We could live in, like, a
bigger house, drive next to our cars, buy them, like,
the kids, whatever they ask for, we just, we choose
not to because like my husband and I both grew
up like actually poor, like times where we didn't know
where our next meal was going to come from. I
started working when I was 12. I would give my

(36:24):
mom money to help out. My husband had a very
similar childhood, but like, even though it was hard, we
both agreed, like it, it built some.

Speaker 6 (36:34):
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 11 (36:54):
I can't believe that they expect that they'll like, eventually
they'll have to like get a job and.

Speaker 7 (36:59):
Earn their own money.

Speaker 11 (37:00):
So we just were like, you know what? We're going
to do things differently. They have everything they need. They
have a nice home. They have like food and clothes
and you know, birthday presents, Christmas presents, all that stuff.
They're taken care of.

Speaker 5 (37:11):
I was going to ask you, how poor are you?

Speaker 11 (37:12):
We're not that poor, but we are poor.

Speaker 8 (37:15):
They like ask for.

Speaker 11 (37:17):
Some expensive toy because like another kid has it.

Speaker 7 (37:20):
Like, sorry. No, we can't afford that is the answer.

Speaker 3 (37:23):
Wow.

Speaker 7 (37:24):
If they want something extra, they have chores. They can
earn it. They can save up for it.

Speaker 1 (37:28):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (37:29):
So there's, there's a reason.

Speaker 7 (37:31):
Yeah, totally.

Speaker 5 (37:33):
But okay. Well here, I guess what I'm saying is,
do they have the other things that the other kids have? Like,
you know what I mean? Or is it, or they obviously.
don't have as much in that strategic, as far as
on your part.

Speaker 7 (37:45):
They strategically do not have as much. They don't have
cell phones.

Speaker 11 (37:48):
They don't have video games. We don't do, like, a
bunch of electronics.

Speaker 7 (37:51):
Like, we just don't do that.

Speaker 3 (37:52):
Yeah, I mean, we don't really either.

Speaker 11 (37:53):
I know people are going to think this is messed
up because, like, technically we are lying to the kids. But, like,
we don't even buy everything we want ourselves. Like, my
husband and I are, like, we have, like, a panic
room that's full of, like, nice stuff that we're not sharing.
Why would we teach our kids that they should just
get everything they want?

Speaker 5 (38:10):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 3 (38:11):
That's so interesting because I kind of do this to
my child, too, because, yeah, I could get you that,
you know, but I don't. Um, but I also hear
them talk about like not saying we can't afford that
to your kids because it gives like a scarcity mindset
or it teaches them, you know, different like thoughts about
money that.

Speaker 5 (38:30):
Aren't healthy, which sometimes depending on the kids, I don't
know if that's a bad thing though, because if you've
ever hit rock bottom as an adult, you know, you
never want to be back there again.

Speaker 3 (38:40):
Right.

Speaker 5 (38:41):
So you kind of put yourself in a different mindset
and maybe that's what it does to some kids. Like
you said, you grew up. Not well off. You were poor.
You had the, I got to work hard to get
what I want. I do see where you're coming from
for sure.

Speaker 7 (38:53):
Thank you.

Speaker 5 (38:55):
Now, Candace, you don't, Enzo gets things though.

Speaker 3 (38:58):
Yeah, no, he gets things, but yeah, we do the
same thing. I tell him, put it off until, you know,
Christmas or I tell him, you know, he can earn it.
He'll do chores around the house or whatever, or we're
trying to teach him to save stuff like that.

Speaker 5 (39:10):
Now I will say though, you're about to run into
the biggest dilemma of your life. If you haven't already
with the cell phone, because he's at that age. And
I know I say at that age, you think it's
extremely young eight, but I'm telling you right now, nine
years old, 10 years old kids have phones. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (39:25):
My oldest, Chris, I gave him a cell phone at 8.

Speaker 3 (39:28):
Really?

Speaker 10 (39:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (39:29):
Okay. I mean, a safety device or like a kid-friendly phone. Yeah,
like we're thinking about getting him like the Wi-Fi phone
just so he can call with his cousin because they
like to FaceTime now. She's in San Francisco.

Speaker 1 (39:39):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (39:40):
So, but a cell phone? No, we're not doing that.

Speaker 5 (39:42):
Yeah. Okay.

Speaker 1 (39:43):
Not soon.

Speaker 6 (39:43):
Not soon.

Speaker 5 (39:44):
Well, I don't think what you're doing is bad. I
think you know your kids better than anybody, and I
can't tell you what to do and what not to do.
I don't think it's going to— I mean, it's definitely not going.

Speaker 1 (39:52):
To hurt them.

Speaker 3 (39:53):
No.

Speaker 1 (39:54):
No, but they're going to grow up and find out, oh,
Mom and Daddy really had money.

Speaker 5 (39:57):
No, and I think they might go, hey, I'm glad
that you did that because, look— I mean— Yeah. And as
the kids get older and they develop more of their
personalities and you see, you might adjust that plan a
little bit here and there. But, I mean, I understand— Yeah.

Speaker 3 (40:11):
No, I understand, too. And no one wants to be
a spoiled brat.

Speaker 5 (40:14):
No, and I spoil my kid too much sometimes, and
I know I do.

Speaker 6 (40:16):
Same.

Speaker 3 (40:16):
I'm trying not to.

Speaker 5 (40:18):
I know I do sometimes, and I'm like, no.

Speaker 3 (40:19):
Because we have one. Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 5 (40:21):
I have one kid.

Speaker 3 (40:22):
He doesn't have to share. I don't have to buy two.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
I don't spoil mine. Yeah. No, you don't. I tell them,
get what you get. Don't pitch a fit. Yeah. That's
what I tell them.

Speaker 5 (40:32):
Okay. And then you hit them?

Speaker 1 (40:33):
No, I don't.

Speaker 5 (40:35):
And then you make them go pick out their own Switch?

Speaker 1 (40:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (40:37):
No way.

Speaker 5 (40:39):
Welcome to Pooh's Little House on the Prairie. Well, thank
you so much for your secret. I love that you called,
and good luck with everything. You sound like good parents,
so do your thing.

Speaker 7 (40:47):
Thank you.

Speaker 5 (40:48):
I mean, it's kind of a luxury. If you're pretending
to be poor and you're not actually poor, that's kind
of a luxury in 2026. All right.

Speaker 4 (40:57):
It's time for Candace Court. It gets settled here with
Billy the Kid.

Speaker 1 (41:02):
In the morning.

Speaker 5 (41:03):
All rise for the Honorable Judge Candace Lopez on Mix 102.9.
Welcome to Candace Court. Why did I just get so nervous,
by the way?

Speaker 3 (41:11):
Because of the Rangers game?

Speaker 5 (41:12):
I just remembered that I'm throwing out the first pitch today.

Speaker 8 (41:15):
Oh, no.

Speaker 5 (41:15):
And I got so nervous.

Speaker 3 (41:16):
Yeah, it's going to be fine. You'll be good.

Speaker 1 (41:18):
Yeah, you got this.

Speaker 5 (41:18):
Like, I have a stomachache, nervous. Oh, no. And it's
only because my hand's broken. I got to throw it opposite-handed. Right.
Did you tell Tyler the Rangers that?

Speaker 6 (41:26):
What?

Speaker 5 (41:26):
Uh, yeah.

Speaker 1 (41:28):
Oh, my gosh. What do you mean, what?

Speaker 5 (41:33):
He knows.

Speaker 3 (41:34):
He listens.

Speaker 5 (41:34):
Okay. Well, if you're going in and I mess up
and I accidentally hit a kid on the sidelines or something.
It's fine. I just have a feeling I have no
accuracy with this other opposite hand.

Speaker 3 (41:43):
Right.

Speaker 5 (41:44):
Okay. Anyway.

Speaker 1 (41:45):
You did good yesterday practicing.

Speaker 5 (41:46):
Yeah, I was throwing an orange 10 feet.

Speaker 10 (41:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (41:49):
Because I didn't have a baseball. And then I broke
the orange on the wall at the radio station. And
that's on Instagram. And then we got yelled at. It
was an all-staff email. Don't throw fruit in the hallway.

Speaker 1 (41:57):
I know. Can't have fun.

Speaker 5 (41:58):
Welcome to the no fun zone.

Speaker 1 (42:00):
All right.

Speaker 5 (42:01):
Candice Court is on. If you have an issue, some
kind of problem you want Candice to solve, at Candice
on air on Instagram, at Candice on air. Are you
ready for today's case?

Speaker 7 (42:08):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (42:09):
I need an opinion on or three on an issue
I'm having this week with my sister. She is in
between rental homes for a few days and asked if
she could stay with me in my one bedroom apartment
until she's able to move on Friday. I agreed to
let her stay on my couch. And since I already
know that she is very sensitive to noise, I reminded
her to bring earplugs. Well, last night around 10, she

(42:34):
told me that she could hear my TV and that
she was trying to go to sleep. I already had
the volume lower than normal to accommodate her, and she
said I should either.

Speaker 1 (42:44):
Shut my door or turn off the TV.

Speaker 6 (42:46):
Ooh.

Speaker 5 (42:48):
I told her I was planning to go to sleep
by 11 and asked if she was wearing her earplugs.
She said no because she doesn't like to sleep with them.
This is such a sister fight. I know. I explained
to her that I cannot shut my door because my
cat needs in and out. Ugh. Ew. By the way, Pooh,
I'm getting a lot of hate emails about you and

(43:10):
DMs about you.

Speaker 3 (43:11):
Me?

Speaker 5 (43:11):
And cats.

Speaker 6 (43:12):
Oh, wow.

Speaker 5 (43:13):
We'll get into that later.

Speaker 1 (43:14):
Uh-oh.

Speaker 5 (43:15):
She said we got into an argument and I told
her she could go get a hotel.

Speaker 6 (43:18):
Oh, no.

Speaker 5 (43:19):
Go. She got silent and so did I at that point.
As my guest, was she wrong or was I? We're
not speaking right now.

Speaker 1 (43:29):
Oh, man.

Speaker 5 (43:31):
Wow. Okay. This is a silly fight, but Candace Lopez.

Speaker 3 (43:34):
It is, yeah.

Speaker 5 (43:35):
Should someone have to.

Speaker 3 (43:36):
But when you're tired, though, when everybody's tired, it makes
things amplified. You know, fights just get amplified big time.

Speaker 5 (43:44):
So she's in a one-bedroom apartment. Her sister's staying with her.
She's on the couch. She's in her bedroom with her
TV on. And her sister's like, I can't sleep with
the TV on.

Speaker 6 (43:52):
Right.

Speaker 3 (43:52):
This is such a sister thing, which I don't have
a sister. But, you know, I think because it is
your sister, you feel like you can do just whatever
you want. But if this were anyone else, I feel
like you'd be a little more accommodating. You know what
I mean?

Speaker 5 (44:04):
But it's not.

Speaker 3 (44:05):
No, it's not.

Speaker 5 (44:06):
And you're letting her stay with you. And I'm sorry,
but if I want my TV on, I'm going to
have my TV on. No.

Speaker 3 (44:11):
Yeah, but there's also the light from your TV, you know,
that shines out.

Speaker 5 (44:15):
I cannot stand people like this.

Speaker 3 (44:16):
Like what?

Speaker 1 (44:17):
You know what? Sleep.

Speaker 5 (44:19):
Just shut up and sleep.

Speaker 1 (44:20):
It's not that easy.

Speaker 5 (44:22):
You're not really tired then. Because I'm telling you. I
dated a girl that if the DVD player light was on,
she'd be like, oh my God, that is blinding. And
I'm like, what? It is pretty bright. Can you unplug
the DVD player?

Speaker 3 (44:37):
Some of them are bright, though. Like you need to
put a piece of tape over that light or a
blanket or something.

Speaker 5 (44:41):
You know what I did with her? I said, close
your eyes.

Speaker 1 (44:43):
Tell me when I unplug it.

Speaker 7 (44:45):
No.

Speaker 3 (44:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (44:46):
Tell me when I unplug it. She couldn't tell you? No,
of course not. Because it was all in her head.

Speaker 10 (44:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (44:52):
You can't see with your eyes closed.

Speaker 3 (44:54):
No, but light still comes in. You can tell.

Speaker 1 (44:56):
Oh, my God. Close your eyes.

Speaker 3 (44:58):
Can you tell the lights are on?

Speaker 6 (44:59):
No.

Speaker 3 (45:00):
Can you tell the sun is out?

Speaker 1 (45:02):
Where's the sun?

Speaker 5 (45:03):
No, I couldn't even tell you where it's at.

Speaker 1 (45:04):
Oh, come on.

Speaker 5 (45:05):
You can see it. You are so dramatic. Listen, I
can sleep through TV. I'll go to sleep in the movies.
I'll sleep anywhere. Listen, when you get up and we do,
you'll sleep.

Speaker 3 (45:14):
Right, right.

Speaker 5 (45:15):
Someone could be right next to me breathing in my ear,
and I'd sleep.

Speaker 3 (45:19):
Yeah, but it's hard to sleep with earplugs, too. Like,
they poke your ear, like if you're a side sleeper.

Speaker 1 (45:24):
I'm scared they'd go way up there. I mean, as
the host, you've got to accommodate your even family. You
have to.

Speaker 5 (45:30):
It's funny coming from someone who's never invited anybody to
their house. Never offered anybody to stay. I'd be homeless
in Poole. Like, man, I hope you figure it out.

Speaker 1 (45:38):
No, I would let you stay on my couch.

Speaker 5 (45:41):
For real. I don't even know if you have a couch.

Speaker 3 (45:43):
Oh, I do.

Speaker 5 (45:43):
Remember, you do know.

Speaker 3 (45:45):
Yeah, I remember he unpacked it the other day.

Speaker 1 (45:46):
Yeah, I got a new one from Wayfair. Shout out Wayfair. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (45:50):
Oh, okay.

Speaker 1 (45:50):
Yeah, it turns into a bed. A queen.

Speaker 5 (45:52):
Someone's acting different after all these Chipotle endorsements. Someone's over
here flaunting.

Speaker 1 (45:59):
Their new futon.

Speaker 3 (46:00):
Yeah, but if you had someone sleeping on your couch
in the living room, you would shut your door. Or
you would turn the volume down or whatever.

Speaker 5 (46:07):
Would you turn the TV off in your room?

Speaker 1 (46:08):
Yeah, I would.

Speaker 5 (46:09):
I would.

Speaker 10 (46:10):
I would.

Speaker 1 (46:11):
Okay. Matter of fact, I had my little sister. She
spent the night one time because her AC was out.
And my sister's really picky. She has to have all
this stuff. And I was like, okay, whatever. Whatever you want, Morgan.

Speaker 5 (46:24):
And I did it. Good for you.

Speaker 3 (46:26):
That's nice.

Speaker 1 (46:26):
Well, because I'm scared of her.

Speaker 5 (46:27):
But anyway.

Speaker 1 (46:28):
Yeah, exactly. All right.

Speaker 5 (46:30):
What do you think? Candace, I bet you you're one
of those sleepers that can't sleep with one little light on.

Speaker 3 (46:36):
Sometimes. It depends. On the weekends, I could. On the weeknights, no.
I have a hard time sleeping.

Speaker 5 (46:40):
I can imagine. Poor Eric. I can imagine. Babe, the
neighbor three streets away has his porch light on. And
it's gleaming through the bedroom. Is there any way you
can go... on the Nextdoor app and tell them.

Speaker 7 (46:51):
To turn it off.

Speaker 6 (46:52):
Oh, my gosh.

Speaker 3 (46:53):
That is not accurate at all.

Speaker 5 (46:54):
What is the verdict, Candace?

Speaker 3 (46:55):
I think you're guilty of being a bed and breakfast Becky.

Speaker 6 (46:58):
Oh!

Speaker 1 (46:58):
Be cool.

Speaker 3 (47:01):
Help a sister out.

Speaker 5 (47:02):
Let me watch TV. I want to watch my programs.

Speaker 3 (47:05):
Well, I know you do, but just don't watch them
this late or that loud or that bright.

Speaker 5 (47:09):
All right, turn the TV off. I'm not the judge.
She is guilty of being a.

Speaker 3 (47:12):
A bed and breakfast Becky.

Speaker 4 (47:15):
It's Texas Top Stories on the 10s with Billy the
Kid in the morning.

Speaker 6 (47:19):
Only on the new Mix 102.9.

Speaker 5 (47:21):
Got Usher and Chris Brown tickets coming up next. If
you want those, we do it on the 10s pretty
much every hour all day, so listen to win. Candace Lopez,
what is up?

Speaker 3 (47:28):
Well, Tropical Storm Edouard continues to weaken this morning after
making landfall off the south Texas coast yesterday. It's now
been downgraded to a tropical depression, but it is bringing
heavy rain with it as it moves inland just northeast
of Houston. So these bands of rain will start to
make their way Close to the Metroplex. Our best chance
for rain is tonight and tomorrow. Slight chances today that

(47:51):
you could see just a stray storm. But look at
the height tomorrow, 88.

Speaker 5 (47:55):
I know. I'm almost too excited. I don't want to
get my hopes up for that because I'm so excited
for it because I just want some clouds. Even if
we don't get rain.

Speaker 6 (48:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (48:03):
Can we just get some clouds?

Speaker 3 (48:04):
We should get some clouds. That's going to keep the
temperature down.

Speaker 5 (48:07):
Okay, good. If it doesn't make it to 90, I'm
getting out my winter coat. I'm putting up Halloween decorations.

Speaker 6 (48:12):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (48:12):
I mean, a lot of people do September 1st now
because they're just so excited.

Speaker 5 (48:16):
They really do. That's aggressive, but I'm not mad at it.

Speaker 3 (48:19):
Yeah, same.

Speaker 5 (48:19):
One of my neighbors already has Halloween decorations up.

Speaker 6 (48:21):
Do they?

Speaker 3 (48:22):
Is that the one with the skelly?

Speaker 5 (48:24):
Yes, they already have Christmas decorations at Hobby Lobby.

Speaker 3 (48:26):
Really?

Speaker 5 (48:27):
Oh, just half the store is already Christmas.

Speaker 3 (48:30):
Oh, wow. Too soon.

Speaker 6 (48:32):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (48:32):
I kind of like seeing it.

Speaker 3 (48:34):
And let's wait till October, November for me.

Speaker 5 (48:36):
Okay. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (48:37):
Guys, Tony Romo pleaded no contest in his drunk driving
case yesterday in Wisconsin. So he is going to have
his license suspended for six months. He will also have
to attend an alcohol assessment program. And then on top
of that, he's going to have to have one of
those breathalyzers in his car and he'll pay a fine.
So yeah, Tony in court yesterday.

Speaker 5 (48:57):
Yeah, he's not driving anytime soon.

Speaker 3 (48:59):
No, he did post a pretty long statement. calling his
arrest a personal failure he owns up to completely. And
then he went on to explain that multiple back surgeries
from football injuries left him dependent on the pain meds,
and that's what led him to self-medicating with alcohol as
he was tapering off of those. But he says he
is working with the team of doctors. to address his

(49:20):
health and make the necessary changes. But yeah, I didn't
expect that really long post from him yesterday.

Speaker 5 (49:26):
Yeah, well, and I'm glad I got to say hi
to Aaron because I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I talked about this earlier, but I went on a
date one time, a first date, and the girl asked
me to blow into her device so she could drive. Jeez.
This was back in the day, and I was like, wait,
what do you mean? And she's like, hi, guys. Just
blowing it so I can start my car.

Speaker 6 (49:44):
Oh, man.

Speaker 5 (49:44):
And Erin called me and said she had a guy
do the same thing on a date back in the day.

Speaker 10 (49:48):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (49:49):
Wow. You can't do that.

Speaker 5 (49:51):
Right. That's awful. Yeah. And I didn't do it. But
now I think there's a way to make sure that
it's you doing it.

Speaker 3 (49:57):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (49:58):
I don't know for sure.

Speaker 3 (49:58):
Yeah, there's got to be like a fingerprint thing or
a face recognition or something.

Speaker 5 (50:03):
Yeah, but people find a way around things, so hopefully
he learned his lesson.

Speaker 3 (50:07):
Yeah, for sure. Guys, the new cast of Dancing with
the Stars was just announced. I'm actually excited about this season.
The season 35 cast includes Julia Stiles, one of my
favorite actresses. Jenna Dewan, I know, Pooh, you're a fan.

Speaker 1 (50:22):
Yeah, I know Jenna.

Speaker 3 (50:23):
She's from Grapevine.

Speaker 6 (50:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (50:25):
I know Jenna. I do.

Speaker 3 (50:26):
Do you know Jenna?

Speaker 1 (50:27):
Yeah, back in the day, she went to Collierville, yeah.

Speaker 5 (50:30):
So if we called her right now, we're like, No,
she wouldn't remember me like that. But then do you
know her?

Speaker 1 (50:34):
I mean... I know.

Speaker 6 (50:37):
Her, too, then.

Speaker 3 (50:39):
A lot of people around town know Jenna, for sure.

Speaker 5 (50:42):
She's awesome.

Speaker 1 (50:42):
That's your crush, for sure. Yeah, she's good people, though.
I actually heard Marty Koudelka, who used to choreograph for
Justin Timberlake. We all used to hang out.

Speaker 5 (50:52):
Oh, that's right.

Speaker 3 (50:53):
Yeah, you guys were all dancers.

Speaker 1 (50:55):
I tried to be a dancer, but it didn't last.

Speaker 5 (50:58):
I forgot you were a dancer, actually.

Speaker 7 (50:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (50:59):
Exactly.

Speaker 5 (51:00):
Do you know Pooh was in the background of the
Ice Ice Baby video?

Speaker 3 (51:03):
Well, he auditioned, right?

Speaker 5 (51:05):
I thought you made it.

Speaker 1 (51:05):
No, I didn't make it.

Speaker 5 (51:06):
All these years I thought you made it and you didn't?

Speaker 1 (51:08):
No, I told you I didn't make it. Yeah, I win.

Speaker 3 (51:10):
No, he said he auditioned.

Speaker 5 (51:11):
Oh, I thought you were the backup to the backup.
Also on the show.

Speaker 3 (51:17):
Guys, Tatiana Ali, Taylor Hansen, Olympic gold medalist Amber Glenn.
She's from the Metroplex, so excited to see her. Yeah,
they're going to have a two-night premiere Tuesday, September 15th
and September 16th. It'll air live on ABC and Disney +.
So there you go. I'm Candace Lopez. Those are your
Texas Top Stories.

Speaker 2 (51:36):
The new Mix 102.9.

Speaker 5 (51:40):
Oh, that's a hot take.

Speaker 6 (51:41):
Let us know what you think.

Speaker 2 (51:42):
Here's today's hot take.

Speaker 5 (51:44):
Mix 102.9. It's Bailey the Kid, Candice Lopez, and Producer Pooh.
We got tickets to go see Usher and Chris Brown
on the 10s pretty much every hour, all day. So
if you want to win, we'll do that again soon.
Make sure you listen. And it's a shot to get
on that VIP riser, which is, I mean, it's pretty
much a freaky little platform that they have. That's what
I'm going to call it because it's caused a lot

(52:05):
of controversy, this VIP riser at this show. Yes, put
this music on because that's what happens. Okay. Usher gets
on this VIP riser, and if you're up there, there's
a good chance he might get on you.

Speaker 3 (52:16):
Oh, it's like a club-inspired, like, elevated standing spot.

Speaker 5 (52:21):
It's caused about a divorce a week, one to two
divorces every show. Because a woman gets up there and then,
you know, her boyfriend or husband's in the crowd. They
get in a fight because Chris Brown gets on there
and just does his thing.

Speaker 3 (52:32):
Oh, and there's a VIP bar up there?

Speaker 5 (52:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (52:35):
Okay, now it's making sense.

Speaker 5 (52:36):
You're having a few drinks. All of a sudden, Chris
Brown's on you.

Speaker 3 (52:39):
What in the world? It happens.

Speaker 5 (52:42):
It happens before you know it. I've been there and
you're like, Chris, get off me. Get off me, Chris.
But either way, some ladies would love that. And if
that's you and you want a shot at this, make
sure you listen on the 10s every hour. We're hooking
that up. So, all right. Hot take of the day.
We got in a big debate about this because, well,
I read this story and it freaked me out because,

(53:04):
you know, I'm not really scared of a lot of things.
Not that I'm the toughest guy in the world, but
I'm paranoid, but I'm paranoid about other stuff.

Speaker 10 (53:11):
Right.

Speaker 5 (53:12):
And I keep an eye out on things, but there's
certain things that I'm just not accustomed to. Like, I
didn't grow up in the country. I didn't grow up,
you know, with a bunch of animals around me. The
first time I saw a cow, I think, was in
the zoo.

Speaker 3 (53:23):
Yeah, weird.

Speaker 5 (53:24):
A wild cow.

Speaker 3 (53:25):
Never seen a cow in the zoo.

Speaker 5 (53:27):
Well, you didn't grow up in Detroit.

Speaker 3 (53:29):
No.

Speaker 5 (53:29):
Where else would I see them?

Speaker 7 (53:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (53:31):
You know, you had to go to a petting zoo to.

Speaker 1 (53:32):
See, like, a cow.

Speaker 3 (53:33):
I guess so.

Speaker 5 (53:34):
I'm not going to see one in downtown Detroit or,
you know, whatever. So anyway, I just didn't see a
lot of this stuff. So sometimes the thought of an
animal attack freaks me out. Like, I'm scared of bears.
And then I saw this story that happened in Lake
Tahoe where this woman got attacked by like viciously attacked
by a river otter.

Speaker 3 (53:53):
A river otter?

Speaker 5 (53:56):
Have you seen this?

Speaker 6 (53:57):
No.

Speaker 5 (53:57):
And I'm like, new fear unlocked.

Speaker 1 (53:59):
Oh, God. New fear unlocked. A river otter.

Speaker 5 (54:02):
As much as I'm on Lake Louisville, I have a
feeling it's going to happen to me.

Speaker 3 (54:07):
Oh, they look so cute.

Speaker 5 (54:08):
Oh, don't. Don't think they're cute. This woman is doing
this video. She's a swim instructor. She's swimming and doing
her thing. All of a sudden, she's just getting viciously
attacked by a river otter.

Speaker 3 (54:19):
She got 38 stitches?

Speaker 5 (54:21):
38 stitches.

Speaker 6 (54:22):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (54:23):
Barely survived.

Speaker 3 (54:25):
He looks cute.

Speaker 5 (54:27):
Imagine if you got taken out by a river otter.

Speaker 1 (54:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (54:31):
I'm going to lie and say it was a bear.
You have to.

Speaker 1 (54:34):
You can't go out like that.

Speaker 5 (54:36):
Either way, thank God she's okay. But yeah, she almost died. Wow.

Speaker 3 (54:39):
Poor thing.

Speaker 5 (54:40):
No, I felt awful. I mean, there's blood all over her.
She's all messed up and they don't know why. And
I think obviously that River otter had rabies or something.

Speaker 3 (54:48):
Got her face, too?

Speaker 5 (54:50):
I don't know if they can get rabies. Oh, yeah,
she's bleeding on her face. She's got her swim goggles off.
She's like, I was just swimming, and all of a
sudden I just felt this pain. And this river otter
swam up under her and just got her, started biting her,
chomping her, clawing her. I mean, it was crazy. So
this is what it leads me to, this conversation right here,
hot take of the day.

Speaker 4 (55:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (55:08):
What animal, what's the biggest or most ferocious animal you
think you could fight with your bare hands and win?
I'm going to ask everyone in the room this question.
What animal, the biggest, most ferocious one you think you
could beat in a fight and survive?

Speaker 3 (55:21):
House cat.

Speaker 5 (55:23):
Candace is a house cat.

Speaker 3 (55:24):
They're agile, but they like to sleep a lot. Okay.

Speaker 5 (55:29):
I don't know if I'd consider a house cat. A
ferocious large animal?

Speaker 3 (55:34):
Sometimes they can be fat cats. Yeah, mean fat cats.

Speaker 5 (55:38):
I'm going to tell you right now, our boss Zant
has a cat named Steve. Yeah. Steve would destroy you. Yeah,
he would. If he wanted to, he weighs more than you.

Speaker 3 (55:47):
Yeah, I think he's sweet, though.

Speaker 5 (55:48):
I think he's sweet, too. But if you got him mad,
like if you took away his food. Oh, yeah.

Speaker 3 (55:52):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (55:52):
If you went when he was mid-snack.

Speaker 3 (55:54):
Yeah, I might need to rethink this.

Speaker 5 (55:56):
He would destroy your face. You think that River Otter
was bad?

Speaker 1 (55:59):
Yeah, Steve ain't Garfield.

Speaker 5 (56:01):
Steve, no. Okay, so you're saying house cat.

Speaker 3 (56:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (56:05):
All right. Pooh, let me ask you, because sometimes Pooh
has an elevated confidence when it comes to this. Yeah.
And I don't know why, because he didn't grow up
in the country either.

Speaker 1 (56:13):
No, no.

Speaker 5 (56:14):
But you were more country than I was.

Speaker 1 (56:16):
Yeah, I was.

Speaker 5 (56:17):
What animal, what big, ferocious animal do you think you
could actually win in a fight with your bare hands?

Speaker 1 (56:22):
I think I could take a koala.

Speaker 6 (56:25):
Oh.

Speaker 3 (56:25):
Okay. I love koalas.

Speaker 1 (56:27):
A koala? Yeah, I think I could. Are they mean? Yes,
they are.

Speaker 5 (56:32):
I'm assuming. Have you ever seen them?

Speaker 1 (56:34):
They look just slow. I think I could take them.

Speaker 3 (56:37):
Yeah, they look sloppy.

Speaker 5 (56:38):
They do, but have you seen their claws?

Speaker 3 (56:41):
Oh, they're territorial. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (56:42):
Yeah. Their claws are about seven inches long.

Speaker 1 (56:45):
I ain't never seen a mad koala, so I just
think I could- Because.

Speaker 5 (56:48):
You've never seen a koala.

Speaker 1 (56:49):
I mean, I've seen it on TV, you know what
I'm saying, or in a zoo.

Speaker 5 (56:52):
I think I could take one if I was just like-
I don't think so. God bless you, Candace. Trapped in
the outback. She's allergic to lies, obviously.

Speaker 4 (56:59):
Thank you.

Speaker 5 (56:59):
She can sneeze.

Speaker 6 (57:01):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (57:01):
You think a koala. Yeah, yeah. I think you would
get destroyed by a koala.

Speaker 1 (57:05):
I'd just punch it in his big old nose.

Speaker 5 (57:06):
Bam.

Speaker 2 (57:08):
Aw. No?

Speaker 5 (57:08):
That's rude.

Speaker 3 (57:09):
But they might latch onto you like they do the trees.

Speaker 1 (57:11):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (57:12):
Yeah. Yeah. It's getting your legs look like trees.

Speaker 1 (57:15):
You know what I'm thinking?

Speaker 5 (57:17):
I'm thinking at first I have to change mine because
at first I thought, you know what? If I had
to take one animal, I think I would be able
to fight a small chimpanzee. Okay. You know?

Speaker 1 (57:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (57:25):
I feel like if I got a hold of one,
I could take its back into a rear naked choke.

Speaker 10 (57:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (57:30):
A what?

Speaker 5 (57:31):
A rear naked choke.

Speaker 3 (57:32):
What is that?

Speaker 1 (57:33):
That's a jujitsu move.

Speaker 5 (57:34):
I think I could get one.

Speaker 3 (57:35):
Rear naked choke?

Speaker 5 (57:37):
Yeah. I would have clothes on. It's just what it's called.

Speaker 6 (57:39):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (57:39):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (57:39):
That was weird.

Speaker 6 (57:40):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (57:42):
I'm not getting naked.

Speaker 1 (57:42):
How do you practice that?

Speaker 5 (57:45):
Anyway, the point is, I think I could take it.
Then I read that they go for your eyes and
your private parts.

Speaker 7 (57:51):
Oh.

Speaker 5 (57:51):
So I cancel that.

Speaker 3 (57:53):
Cancel that.

Speaker 5 (57:54):
And I think I could take alligator.

Speaker 3 (57:57):
Alligator?

Speaker 5 (57:57):
Oh, my God. I think I could. An alligator? I
genuinely think if I had to fight an alligator, there's
a technique to it. And I see people do it
on Instagram.

Speaker 1 (58:08):
They do those death rolls? You're done.

Speaker 5 (58:11):
But I'm saying they wouldn't get a chance to do
a death roll. How is that? Because you sneak up
behind it, jump on its back, and close its mouth.
Because they have all the power of chomping down. They
can't open their mouth. I think I.

Speaker 3 (58:23):
Just sit on their mouth?

Speaker 5 (58:24):
No, not their mouth on their back.

Speaker 3 (58:26):
Sit on their... Well, I mean, so that you can
keep their mouth closed?

Speaker 5 (58:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (58:29):
So they can't open it?

Speaker 6 (58:31):
Yes.

Speaker 5 (58:31):
And then if I had duct tape, I'd tape the mouth.

Speaker 1 (58:33):
So you do this outside the water. You can't get
on their back if they're in the water.

Speaker 3 (58:38):
They're kind of fast, right?

Speaker 1 (58:39):
Yeah, they are.

Speaker 5 (58:39):
Yeah, but I wouldn't race it. I'm not trying to
race it. I would jump on a tree and then
surprise attack it.

Speaker 3 (58:45):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (58:46):
I think that's the best route.

Speaker 1 (58:47):
You're jumping from a tree on an alligator's back.

Speaker 5 (58:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (58:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (58:51):
Are they slippery? Like when you land, are you going
to land solid?

Speaker 1 (58:54):
They're scaly.

Speaker 3 (58:56):
I think they're slippery.

Speaker 5 (58:58):
I think they're sticky.

Speaker 3 (58:59):
Oh, you think you're just going to stick?

Speaker 5 (59:00):
They're scaly.

Speaker 1 (59:01):
Good grip.

Speaker 5 (59:01):
Yeah, once I climb the tree and surprise attack it,
yeah then I'll just grab its mouth and what it's
gonna do if it doesn't have a mouth what I
mean their arms are two inches long right what's it
gonna do fight me with its little stubby arms.

Speaker 3 (59:12):
Well can their tail go up and down or does
it just go like left and right.

Speaker 5 (59:15):
I think it just goes left and right okay it's
not a big deal If it's a six-foot alley, over
six feet, I.

Speaker 1 (59:22):
Don't want to fight him. Right, but under six feet,
you got it all day.

Speaker 5 (59:25):
I'll tell you what animal I would rather fight an
alligator than the one animal I'm actually scared of, even
though it shouldn't be scary. Is there an animal you
shouldn't be scared of that you're scared of?

Speaker 3 (59:34):
Probably.

Speaker 5 (59:35):
Mine is an emu.

Speaker 1 (59:36):
Oh, yeah. They got an attitude.

Speaker 5 (59:39):
No, I got attacked by one at Fossil Ridge.

Speaker 3 (59:41):
Oh, yeah. I remember hearing about that. Do you remember that?

Speaker 6 (59:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (59:46):
Came into your car.

Speaker 6 (59:47):
What happened?

Speaker 5 (59:48):
You know how they give you the bag of food
to feed it? Yeah. This emu came in and I
made the awful mistake of putting the feed, you know,
the food. Where would you put it?

Speaker 3 (59:57):
Yeah, right in your lap.

Speaker 5 (59:58):
Right in your lap.

Speaker 3 (59:59):
Of course.

Speaker 5 (01:00:00):
And I got attacked by an emu in the crotch.

Speaker 3 (01:00:04):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (01:00:06):
He went right for the food, which happened to be there.
And I've never felt the same.

Speaker 3 (01:00:10):
I'm sorry. Did you roll your window up?

Speaker 1 (01:00:12):
Are you traumatized?

Speaker 6 (01:00:17):
Right?

Speaker 5 (01:00:18):
Yeah, I did. But then his neck was caught in it,
so I didn't want to kill it.

Speaker 3 (01:00:20):
Was he just pecking you?

Speaker 5 (01:00:22):
No. Oh, yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:00:23):
No.

Speaker 5 (01:00:24):
Then I don't know how, but he opened the door.

Speaker 6 (01:00:26):
No.

Speaker 1 (01:00:26):
Wait, he opened the door?

Speaker 5 (01:00:28):
Okay, maybe not.

Speaker 6 (01:00:29):
No.

Speaker 4 (01:00:31):
It's Texas Top Stories on the 10s with Billy the
Kid in the Morning.

Speaker 6 (01:00:35):
Only on the new Mix 102.9. We've got a.

Speaker 5 (01:00:38):
Chance to see Usher and Chris Brown. Tickets coming up next,
so make sure you listen. Doing it on the 10s
all day long. Candace Lopez, what's up?

Speaker 3 (01:00:44):
Well, a North Texas couple is going to federal prison
after pleading guilty in a wire fraud case involving fake
custom home projects. According to court records, the couple defrauded
more than 40 people from six different counties here in
the Metroplex. I guess this happened over the course of
about three years. So they were basically offering to do
custom home projects well below market price. And then, you know,

(01:01:08):
after they'd get a few payments from these people, they
just abandoned the projects or just not do any of
the work that they promised. The guy involved in this
did admit that he was in fact not a licensed
architect like he told these people he was, but this
involved at least 24 different construction projects and around $ 4. 2
million in losses for these victims. Their defense attorneys claimed

(01:01:32):
that their business started out as an honest business, but
because of struggles with the pandemic, they made a series
of poor decisions. Obviously, the other side says, no, this
was very intentional. And some of these victims were in
court yesterday, too, to see, you know, how this is
going to unfold.

Speaker 5 (01:01:46):
You know what you're doing. You're ripping multiple people. This
wasn't like, I don't know what happened. We, you know, oh,
one bad quote. And we just accidentally took more money.
You're doing this.

Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
Over and over again.

Speaker 3 (01:01:55):
Yeah, exactly. And we mentioned this on Monday. Miley Cyrus
changed her Instagram handle to just say Miley. And now
we have her new album announcement. It came out yesterday.
So the album is called Bass Persuades. It's going to
be out September 18th. This will be her 10th studio album.
Miley also announced two shows at the Hollywood Bowl coming

(01:02:15):
up in October. Yeah, it didn't take long. You know,
the change happened and the announcement came. Sometimes it takes
weeks and these artists like clean their Instagram and start
over and we just wait and wonder.

Speaker 5 (01:02:26):
I like when they do that when they just make
the announcement and the album comes. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:02:29):
Yeah, exactly. A couple of weeks from now, guys, Netflix
is now streaming a documentary about Australian Olympic break dancer
Rachel Raygun Gunn. The show is called Raygun Breaking Badly,
and the documentary details her zero point performance at the
2024 Paris Olympics. And then, yeah, all the backlash that

(01:02:51):
came after it.

Speaker 5 (01:02:52):
I kind of felt bad about that. But, I mean,
she was so viral. And, you know, she thought she
was killing it.

Speaker 1 (01:02:57):
Zero points.

Speaker 5 (01:02:58):
And she was, though, killing it in her own way.

Speaker 3 (01:03:00):
For sure. I mean, it was entertaining, which at the
end of the day, is it about, like, breaking or
being entertaining? I guess technically breaking.

Speaker 5 (01:03:07):
I think it's about breaking in the Olympics.

Speaker 7 (01:03:09):
Oh.

Speaker 5 (01:03:09):
But it was entertaining. But it's interesting to see a
documentary that follows the journey while she was going viral.
I want to see what happened and what was going
through her mind.

Speaker 3 (01:03:17):
Yeah. In the trailer, she talks about a therapy session
she had just before the Olympics where she was kind
of panicking and asked her therapist. You know, talk to
her about it. The therapist said, what's the worst outcome
from all of this? And she said the whole world
could laugh at me. And, you know, her therapist said,
do you think that's reasonable? And then it's like cuts
right to hysterical laughter because that's exactly what happened.

Speaker 5 (01:03:40):
I'd watch that.

Speaker 3 (01:03:41):
Yeah. Oh, no, for sure. But I don't think she
told her therapist, you know, I'm going to go out
there and do the sprinkler. I'm going to hop on.
Like a kangaroo. Like her therapist probably thought she was
legit doing, you know, technical dance.

Speaker 5 (01:03:52):
Well, hey, she did her thing. She had the confidence
to do it.

Speaker 3 (01:03:55):
Yeah, I mean, she's been to the Olympics, which is
much more than most of us can say.

Speaker 5 (01:03:58):
More than I can ever say.

Speaker 3 (01:03:59):
Yeah, well, it's on Netflix now, guys. I'm Candace Lopez.
Those are your Texas Top Stories on Netflix.

Speaker 4 (01:04:07):
Get it off your chest. It's Dirty Little Secret with
Billy the Kid in the Morning on Mix 102.9. Brought
to you by Mint Dentistry.

Speaker 5 (01:04:14):
Okay, you got a secret? You want to confess? Bring
it on. It's Mix 102.9. Billy the Kid, Candace Lopez,
Producer Poo, and your confessions at 833-787-1029. No matter what
they are, big secret, little secret. Confess.

Speaker 11 (01:04:28):
All right, so my husband and I have been lying
to our kids pretty much their entire lives.

Speaker 5 (01:04:33):
Okay.

Speaker 7 (01:04:35):
About what yeah we tell them they're.

Speaker 5 (01:04:37):
Poor wait seriously you tell them yeah they're poor you're
poor or everyone's.

Speaker 7 (01:04:44):
Poor well we are poor yeah you.

Speaker 5 (01:04:46):
Do but you're not poor okay what.

Speaker 11 (01:04:50):
How old are they So basically, our kids are five
and eight.

Speaker 7 (01:04:54):
We have a boy and a girl. And right now,
they don't really know any better.

Speaker 11 (01:04:58):
But our plan is to just keep this going for
as long as we possibly can.

Speaker 7 (01:05:03):
But the truth is, we're not poor at all.

Speaker 11 (01:05:05):
But we tell them that we are.

Speaker 1 (01:05:10):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (01:05:10):
So, yeah. I guess why?

Speaker 7 (01:05:13):
Well, okay. So here's the deal. My husband and I
have really good jobs. We save a ton of money.

Speaker 11 (01:05:16):
We could live in, like, a bigger house, drive next
to our cars, buy them, like, The kids, whatever they
ask for, we just we choose not to because like
my husband and I both grew up like actually poor,
like times where we didn't know where our next meal
was going to come from. I started working when I
was 12. I would give my mom money to help out.
My husband had a very similar childhood.

Speaker 7 (01:05:38):
But like even though it was hard, we both agreed
like it it built. You know, nothing was handed to us.
So we learned really.

Speaker 11 (01:05:47):
Young that if you wanted something, you had to work
for it.

Speaker 7 (01:05:50):
And like, I just feel like that's missing with a
lot of kids now. You know, parents give.

Speaker 8 (01:05:54):
Their kids like everything they want. They constantly coddle them
and make sure they never, you know, feel uncomfortable. And
like half the kids I know don't even have chores. Like,
I can't believe that they expect that they'll like, eventually
they'll have to like.

Speaker 7 (01:06:08):
Get a job and earn their own money.

Speaker 11 (01:06:09):
So we just were like, you know what?

Speaker 7 (01:06:10):
We're going to do things differently.

Speaker 11 (01:06:12):
They have everything they need. They have a nice home.
They have like food and clothes and, you know, birthday presents,
Christmas presents, all that stuff.

Speaker 7 (01:06:19):
They're taken care of.

Speaker 5 (01:06:20):
I was going to ask you, how poor are you?

Speaker 3 (01:06:22):
We're not that poor, but we are poor.

Speaker 11 (01:06:25):
They like ask for some expensive toy because like another
kid has it.

Speaker 7 (01:06:30):
Like, sorry, no, we can't afford that is the answer.

Speaker 3 (01:06:33):
Wow.

Speaker 7 (01:06:33):
If they want something extra, they have chores. They can
earn it. They can save up for it.

Speaker 1 (01:06:38):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (01:06:39):
So there's a reason.

Speaker 7 (01:06:40):
Yeah, totally.

Speaker 5 (01:06:42):
But okay, I guess what I'm saying is, do they
have the other things that the other kids have? You
know what I mean? Or are they obviously... don't have
as much and that's strategic as far as on your
part we do.

Speaker 11 (01:06:55):
Not have as much they don't have cell phones they
don't have video games we don't do like a bunch
of electronics like we just don't do that yeah i
mean we don't really think this is messed up because
like technically we are lying to the kids but like
we don't even buy everything we want ourselves like my
husband and i are like we have like a panic
room that's full of like nice stuff that we're not
sharing why would we teach our kids that they should

(01:07:18):
just get everything they want.

Speaker 3 (01:07:20):
You know what i mean That's so interesting because I
kind of do this to my child, too, because, yeah,
I could get you that, you know, but I don't.
But I also hear them talk about like not saying
we can't afford that to your kids because it gives
like a scarcity mindset or it teaches them, you know,
different things. like thoughts about money.

Speaker 5 (01:07:39):
That aren't healthy, which sometimes depending on the kids, I
don't know if that's a bad thing though, because if
you've ever hit rock bottom as an adult, you know,
you never want to be back there again. Right. So
you kind of put yourself in a different mindset and
maybe that's what it does to some kids. Like you said,
you grew up not well off. You were poor. You
had the, I got to work hard to get what

(01:08:00):
I want. I do see where you're coming from for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:08:03):
Thank you.

Speaker 5 (01:08:04):
Now, Candace, Enzo gets things, though.

Speaker 3 (01:08:07):
Yeah, no, he gets things. But, yeah, we do the
same thing. I put it off until Christmas. Or I
tell him he can earn it. He'll do chores around
the house or whatever. Or we're trying to teach him
to save. Stuff like that.

Speaker 5 (01:08:19):
Now, I will say, though, you're about to run into
the biggest dilemma of your life. if you haven't already,
with the cell phone, because he's at that age. And
I know I say at that age. You think it's
extremely young, eight. But I'm telling you right now, nine
years old, ten years old, kids have phones.

Speaker 1 (01:08:34):
Yeah, my oldest, Chris, I gave him a cell phone
at eight.

Speaker 3 (01:08:37):
Really?

Speaker 6 (01:08:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:08:38):
OK, I mean, a safety device or like a kid
friendly phone.

Speaker 2 (01:08:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:08:42):
Like we're thinking about getting him like the Wi-Fi phone
just so he can call with his cousin because they
like to FaceTime now. She's in San Francisco. OK, so
but a cell phone. No, we're not doing that.

Speaker 5 (01:08:52):
Yeah. OK, soon. Well, I don't think what you're doing
is bad. I think, you know, your kids better than anybody.
And I can't tell you what to do and what
not to do. do. I don't think it's going to,
I mean, it's definitely not going to hurt them.

Speaker 3 (01:09:03):
No.

Speaker 1 (01:09:03):
No, but they're going to grow up and find out, oh,
mom and daddy really had money.

Speaker 5 (01:09:07):
No, and I think they might go, hey, I'm glad
that you did that because look, I mean.

Speaker 9 (01:09:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:09:12):
And as the kids get older and they develop more
of their personalities and you see, you might adjust that
plan a little bit here and there, but. I mean,
I understand. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:09:20):
No, I understand, too. And no one wants to be
a spoiled brat.

Speaker 5 (01:09:23):
No, but I spoil my kid too much sometimes, and
I know I do.

Speaker 2 (01:09:26):
Same.

Speaker 3 (01:09:26):
I'm trying not to.

Speaker 5 (01:09:27):
I know I do sometimes, and I'm like, no.

Speaker 1 (01:09:29):
Because we have one.

Speaker 5 (01:09:30):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 1 (01:09:31):
I have one kid. He doesn't have to share.

Speaker 3 (01:09:32):
I don't have to buy two.

Speaker 1 (01:09:34):
I don't spoil mine.

Speaker 7 (01:09:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:09:36):
No, you don't.

Speaker 1 (01:09:37):
I tell them, get what you get. Don't pitch a fit.

Speaker 5 (01:09:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:09:40):
That's what I tell them.

Speaker 5 (01:09:41):
Okay. And then you hit them.

Speaker 1 (01:09:42):
No, I don't.

Speaker 5 (01:09:44):
And then you make them go pick out their own Switch.

Speaker 6 (01:09:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (01:09:46):
No.

Speaker 4 (01:09:47):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (01:09:48):
Welcome to Pooh's Little House on the Prairie. Well, thank
you so much.

Speaker 1 (01:09:52):
For your secret.

Speaker 5 (01:09:53):
I love that you called, and good luck with everything.
You sound like good parents, so do your thing.

Speaker 2 (01:09:59):
Thank you. The new Mix 102.9.

Speaker 5 (01:10:02):
Oh, it is Mix 102.9. Ability Kid, Candice Lopez, Producer Pooh.
We're about to get out of here. We'll see you tomorrow,
bright and early. Another Dirty Little Secret at 7.30. So
many chances to win all day if you want these.
Usher and Chris Brown tickets. Candice, I'm a little bit
nervous because we're about to leave here soon. I'm going
to throw out the first pitch at the Rangers game. Today,
and I'm doing it opposite-handed, so Pooh and I, we're

(01:10:22):
going to have to be in the parking lot practicing
a little bit longer, if you don't mind, Pooh.

Speaker 3 (01:10:25):
Yeah, did you bring another orange today?

Speaker 5 (01:10:27):
No, I don't have an orange. What do I have?

Speaker 3 (01:10:29):
I got a can of beans.

Speaker 5 (01:10:30):
I got a can of beans. Oh, God. I keep
forgetting to bring a baseball. Do we have a baseball?

Speaker 3 (01:10:35):
I know, and I have some at home. I just
keep forgetting, too.

Speaker 5 (01:10:38):
Pooh, do we have a baseball or some in the.

Speaker 3 (01:10:39):
Surely there's a baseball around.

Speaker 5 (01:10:41):
I got to throw it opposite handed. I don't know
what I'm doing.

Speaker 3 (01:10:43):
There's a globe in there, a small globe.

Speaker 5 (01:10:45):
And then I found out that sometimes they do like
more than one first pitch. They do like a ceremonial
pitch and they'll do, you know, and then one of
my favorite comedians, I just learned that he's going to
be there too, throwing out a pitch with me or
a ceremonial pitch or Ralph Barbosa.

Speaker 3 (01:10:57):
Yeah, that's exciting.

Speaker 5 (01:10:59):
Which he's from the OC. OC. Oak Cliff.

Speaker 3 (01:11:01):
He's so funny.

Speaker 5 (01:11:02):
He's hysterical. Now I'm going to be nervous in front
of him.

Speaker 3 (01:11:05):
No.

Speaker 5 (01:11:05):
I'm going to be nervous in front of everybody. The
player is going to be.

Speaker 3 (01:11:07):
Maybe he's nervous in front of you.

Speaker 5 (01:11:09):
No, I think he's fine.

Speaker 4 (01:11:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:11:10):
I had a dream last night that the players started
laughing at me.

Speaker 6 (01:11:13):
No.

Speaker 5 (01:11:13):
I had a dream that Nolan Ryan was there.

Speaker 3 (01:11:16):
Oh, God.

Speaker 5 (01:11:16):
And then he was like, man, you suck. I had
awful dreams. I stayed up all night.

Speaker 1 (01:11:23):
Nolan Ryan said, you can't even buy my steaks and nothing.

Speaker 5 (01:11:25):
He banned me from buying his beef. He was like, man,
after that first pitch, Billy, you can't eat my beef.
That's what he said.

Speaker 3 (01:11:32):
It's going to be fine. We know your primary hand
that you used to throw is broken. Just do your best.
It'll be good.

Speaker 5 (01:11:38):
Then I had a dream. They booed. They were like.
started chanting Candace.

Speaker 3 (01:11:42):
And then I just came in and threw a heater.

Speaker 5 (01:11:46):
I would actually love if that happened.

Speaker 6 (01:11:49):
All right.

Speaker 1 (01:11:49):
Hopefully we'll see you out there.

Speaker 5 (01:11:51):
If you're going to the game though, go Rangers. I'm
excited to do it. It's an honor actually. So we'll
let you know how it goes tomorrow. We'll see you then. Bye.
