What happens when a spiritual connection starts feeling like something more?

In today's Dirty Little Secret, a listener admits she's developed feelings for someone she never expected: her pastor. What began as a deeper connection to her faith has turned into an emotional dilemma as she finds herself drawn to the man leading her congregation. The problem? She's already in a long-term relationship.

As her boyfriend becomes less involved in the things that matter most to her, she can't ignore the connection she feels every time she sees her pastor. Is this simply a harmless crush, a sign her current relationship has run its course, or could fate be leading her in a completely different direction?

Billy, Candice, and Producer Pooh dive into one of the most complicated and thought-provoking Dirty Little Secrets yet, debating faith, relationships, compatibility, and whether it's ever okay to follow your heart when it leads somewhere unexpected.

Would you stay with your boyfriend or take a chance on a connection you can't stop thinking about? Listen now and decide for yourself.

Speaker 4 (00:21):
It's Billy the Kid, Candace Lopez, and Producer Pooh, and
you have one.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
So I do have a confession, and I feel terrible
about saying it out loud, but here I am on
the radio, I guess. I think I'm falling in love
with my pastor.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Whoa.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Hold up.

Speaker 4 (00:41):
Your pastor? Church pastor? Yeah. Yikes. What is going on
with him?

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Well, I.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
I started going to his church about a year ago.
So I'm still pretty new, but I felt like kind
of a strong connection even in the beginning. And I
thought it was spiritual, but maybe I was, I don't know,
I was just reconnecting with God and finding my roots.

(01:11):
But it's been a year now and I think it's
more than that.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Okay, so at first you thought, wow, this church is working.
Something is making me feel, you know, extra connected.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
And I do love the church regardless. Like, I love
this church. It's become a second home.

Speaker 4 (01:29):
But, no, I see him.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
And, like, nothing inappropriate has ever happened between us. So
I want to make that abundantly clear.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
But I.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
I don't know. Sometimes I'll go to like different events
with the church and I've gotten pretty involved.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
And I, I swear that.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
He spends a little more time talking to me than
everyone else. And again, maybe that's just me saying what
I want to see.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Maybe he does. And what, I mean, if he's a
single guy, I don't know if he's single or not.
It's a priest can't get married, but a pastor can
have relationships. I don't know if they have relationships with
people in the church.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:06):
I wouldn't be surprised if pastors meet other, you know,
women that are, you know, involved with the church like that.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
And it just works out.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
I mean, maybe, maybe you shoot your shot.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
I mean, what?

Speaker 1 (02:19):
No, that's just wrong.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
The problem, the problem is that he is newly single
and I am not, um.

Speaker 5 (02:30):
Wait, you're married or? No, I'm not married.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
I have a boyfriend.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
Oh, I didn't know that. I wouldn't be telling you
to shoot your shot.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Well, no. Telling you to sing, girl. Look at Billy.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
No, I'm not trying to be. the devil on your
other shoulder. I just thought, why not? So you have,
but you have a boyfriend.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Yeah, I do.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
I do.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
And I would never cheat. That is so far outside
of my character. I would never cross that line, but
I have this connection with my pastor that I can't explain.
And my boyfriend is somebody who like refuses to go
to church with me.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
He's one of those.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
That's like spiritual and believes in God.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
But like, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
He, he tells me like, he doesn't need to sit
in a church to believe in God. And I guess
he's right, but it's starting to create a huge wedge
between us because I feel like we're not as spiritually
aligned as I would want to be with somebody who
could potentially be my husband and father of my kids. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
That's important.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
I mean, right. That's pretty important. Yeah, very.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
Your faith and the way you, you know, I mean,
whether you're religious or not, you got to be on
the same page, whatever you believe. I feel like you
got to be on the same wavelength.

Speaker 5 (03:42):
Yeah, that's going to be a point of contention for sure.

Speaker 4 (03:44):
Right. So what, I mean, what happens from here?

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Maybe it's God just putting you in the right place
at the right time.

Speaker 4 (03:50):
It might be.

Speaker 5 (03:51):
I mean, maybe that's what I'm wondering.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
It kind of seems like this, everything's sort of coming
together at this time and now it's He's single and,
you know, things have kind of been falling apart with,
you know, my boyfriend. But I don't know. My pastor
is this like incredible man of God. And he just,
he seems to just share like so many of the

(04:15):
things that are incredibly important to me. And I can't
help but think about it.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Like what if?

Speaker 3 (04:20):
But then I'm thinking, okay, but what if I break
it off with my boyfriend and I try to pursue
something with my pastor, but then he's like, ew, get
away from me.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Right. But I'm telling you right now, it doesn't take
the pastor out of it. The fact that you're even
looking at the pastor like this.

Speaker 5 (04:37):
That's a red flag.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
Means the boyfriend ain't nothing. He's nothing.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (04:40):
I mean, I'm not saying he's nothing.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (04:42):
Imagine if you were going somewhere every Sunday staring at
someone that you have feelings for and your partner has
no idea.

Speaker 4 (04:49):
Yeah. Yeah, that's a problem.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
They're like, ooh, look at him carry that Bible. Okay, relax. Oh,
I do.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
See?

Speaker 1 (05:00):
It's so good.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
Well, it sounds like you guys have.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
A deeper connection than just drooling over him at service.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
The way he says 1 Corinthians 3 to 12.

Speaker 4 (05:12):
Okay, you're getting weird.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Oh, man.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
Jesus laughing you need you need to go to church
um let me know a good one let me ask
you this.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Let's say if you found out the pastor was interested
would you break up with your boyfriend immediately yes i
mean yeah you need to dump him in now yeah
that's the holy ghost yeah caught it yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
But then Is this just a crush? What if I've
imagined this connection? I don't know. And I don't want
it to become awkward at church. I've built friendships there
and a family, and I feel like I have this
incredible community, and I don't want to lose it all
because of a potential.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
But girl, we're in Texas. There's a church every block.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
You find a new church.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
Find a new pastor. You're not wrong. Out with the old,
in with the new.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Yeah, and all these big churches have, you can do
church remotely.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
Oh, yeah. If you're embarrassed.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
You'll be like, you know what, I'll just church from home. Yeah,
I don't want to say what church it is, but,
you know, there's so many churches. No, in all seriousness,
if that's your answer, then the answer is also to
not be with your boyfriend no matter what happens with
the pastor.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
Agreed.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
That's what I would say. Okay.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
That's where I was leaning. That's it's where I was
leaning regardless, but I, okay. I just don't, I don't
want to, you know, mess up everything.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
I mean, it's going to look real weird if like
this keeps happening. And honestly, there's a window, too. You know,
what if pastor moves on with someone else in the congregation?

Speaker 5 (06:40):
Yeah, then you have jealousy, which no bueno, right?

Speaker 3 (06:44):
Yes, that would be, I wouldn't like to see that.

Speaker 4 (06:47):
What if he gets with Linda?

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Yeah, Linda over there counting them tithes.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
Because you know how she dresses at church. She already
dresses a little.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
Oh, man.

Speaker 4 (06:54):
Like a hussy.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Like she's coming from the club.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (06:58):
Linda dresses like a hussy anyway.

Speaker 5 (07:00):
She might be leading the connect group.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
You never know.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Single under 40. The singles under 40 group. Well, let
us know what happens.

Speaker 4 (07:10):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (07:11):
Oh, girl.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
I will.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Thank you so much. I'm going to apologize if there's
really a Linda out there going, are they talking about me?

Speaker 4 (07:18):
There is.
