with the dark blue jerseys, the gold pants and gold helmets.

the forest side of the field. They are the visitors tonight,
all decked out in white with red roon numbers. They
have the maroon helme. That's with the cats on the helmet. Marty.
We're just about ready for football. Obviously, a nice, nice
environment so far, but rain is in the forecast here tonight,
so that may be a factor as we proceed throughout
the night.

Yeah, it's one of those things where you do want
to make it happen early. I mean both sides of
the football. Either school wants to make something happen early.
Mechanicsburg won the toss I liketed to receive, and so
most of time mcdebbit the firs if they win it,
and so they would have gotten it first anyway. But this,
you know, this way, Mechanicsburg is going to get the football.

Since the Midpen Conference began, Vision mcdebit is eleven and
zero against Mechanicsburg. Theyre thirteen and one all time. The
only victory by Mechanicsburg way back in nineteen thirty six,
Mechanicsburg defeated mcdebit twelve to nothing. All Right, we're just

Yeah, that is such a big weapon, absolutely big weapon.
Art I think keys for mcdebitt is too well, you
want to say, get off early. That's something that you
think about all the time. But defensively here as we're
going to see first, I think they have to control
Noah Apple. He can run the football, has a decent
arm too, So you know, if you blitch, you gotta

blitz the gaps. You gotta stay smart. You heard coach
Wector say you gotta stay true to the gaps in that.
So you don't want him to get comfortable or be
comfortable back there at all.

Okay, here come the Wildcats, three wide receivers to the

the Wildcats will try and run this on the left side,

quarterback Apple surveys at McDevitt defense. He's got one back
in the backfield. Now they'll bring a man in motion

from the far side to the near apples pass to
the outside. This one is caught and they will take
this one up to about the twenty seven yard line.

Yeah, Dawson had to go get that out, but it
was high. Maybe fortunate for victivit it was, but he
broke the initial tackle. Art tackles we've seen a lot
this year, so important. You got to make that initial tackle.
You make the receiver freeze, you don't make the first move,
and then when he makes it, then you you know
you're crushing. Yeah, they can't let those tackles go awry.

where and mcdebitt showed the blitz and when they did
that got one of the offensive linemen to come out
of his stance early. So instead of a third and three,

a line drive. The bounces, then it'll actually be returned

McDevitt slams them back and now penalty flag comes flying
in way late.

Good uh good coverage on that. Unfortunately, the whistle blew
and one of the Crusaders would not let go and
ended up throwing the uh return man down. And so
it's it's you can't do those art, You just cannot
do that. I know you're enthused, and I know you
want to prove yourself. But you just cannot do that.

I've been watching too much NFL football because I see
that go left, go Tom and Tom again. So the
ball will come up to the thirty five yard line
as the Wildcats will drive towards the Union deposit end
of the field. Now, two white outs to the foreside,

with one back in the backfield. Apple fakes the handoff.

Ball was a little bit too high. I think that
was Smith out there on the coverage for Bishop mcdebitt.

Yeah, killing Smith out there was ready. If it was complete,
the receiver would have got hit immediately.

Yeah, he would have took a shot for sure. So
it just falls harmlessly as the ground. New damage done.

Mcdebit's up seven zip. The Luca goes out and lines up.
Now it looks like mechanicsburg fall started again, and indeed

Alred a really good crowd for this second round action year,
especially with rain in the forecast.

And I walked in here tonight, NFL like we hadn't
I know, we did the game here two weeks ago,
but mcdebit hadn't played here for three weeks before that,
so it's kind of like odd to actually have a
game here.

Now the officials blow the whistle. There's something here now
they blow play active again. So second down and fifteen
from the thirty and Apple will hand this one off
and mcdebit gets in there, and a nice job in
there by Miller to pick up a few. Looked like

he was initially stopped. He got a couple, and that'll
make it third down and about twelve for the Wildcats.

here for mc Ganningsburg. They want to get some kind
of drive on, big play for the mcdebit defense to
get off the field and get the offense back one
here again. What did doctor ordered art early on was
a good field position for Bishop Debit. They used the

and talking with coach Wector, I'm sure that's exactly how

shows Blitzapple's gonna fire a fade to the outside and
they're gonna call a flag out there. On vision mcdebit,
the ball went too far down the field, tried to
hit Drake Dawson. Then I guess they're going to say
there was contact.

There, There was contact. I couldn't tell what came first,
the contact or the fall. But uh, I actually can't
describe it because I looked up and I saw the
receiver going down. Defender had good position win him, but
he might have already got the hold in there.

So that keeps Mechanicsburg's drive it alive and the ball
will come out to the forty eight yard line, aright.

Those are the ones that kill you. Third down, you're
going to get off the field. It's not even close
to to be a catch.

Yeah, it hurts. So we'll see if mcdebit's defense can

on his own. And he's as I saw last week,
he is tough to bring down.

Think it's safe to say that we're four down territory
here in a game like this, you would certainly think
so we don't know that, we're not really knowledgeable of
their field goal kicker, so they might have someone who
can boom a fifty yarder.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
Rhys Miller goes out and lines up as a wide
receiver on the far side, and they're going to try
the wildcat again with de Luca. Tries to cut out
to the near side, gets inside the thirty down to
the twenty six and has another first down for Mechanicsburg.

That was Dawson there art okay and picks up a
first down. It was bottled up inside debit did not
contain the outside, and Dawson's realized it slid outside able
to pick up a first down.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
So balls at the twenty eight yard line of Bisha mcdebit.
And you know now that penalty, I mean, you just
see how important it was is Mechanics werets driven down
into the twenty eight yard line of Bisha mcdebit. JJ
Gold goes out on the fore side, power for running
formation for Mechanicsburg and they powered up the middle of
Colin Stare and he gets all the way down to

the twenty and he's a load the top. You can
see that.

Yeah, there picks up eight. He is a lineman converted well,
it does both. He plays line, he also plays fullback
and he's a load to hand. He's a good runner.

So he got eight at second and two at the
mcdebit twenty three, twenty left to play here in the
first quarter, Crusaders up seven dip power formation balls on
the ground and I think the Cruisers recovered it, and
they did.

And a huge break for Bishop mcdebbit party.

And the funny thing when the ball was on the ground,
it was right in front of the quarterback, right in
front of mcdebit lineman. The ball ended up going nine
yards downfield. Somebody I'm thinking had to kick it and
that put it downfield. A big break by the cru
for the Crusaders.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
Yeah, a huge break. I mean mcdebit had the penalty there.
The canucks Burg all the momentum down the field. They
bring in the big full back calling Stare, which he's
frightening to watch run the ball and then Mechanicsburg puts
the ball on the ground. So first and ten mcdebit
at the thirteen yard line as the Crusaders now will
drive towards the Dairy Street end of the field. Two

white outs on the near side, one to the far
and they give this one to LaRue Junior takes it
to the outside, and obviously that means us swoops not
feeling the best here. I would take a swoops to
normally start this drive. Jack Dawson checks in from mcdebit.

Liam Fuller checks out.

I watched the whole defensive series from mcdebitt. Swoops just
down here running on the sideline. He's definitely favoring the
one leg slightly so not ready to win.

this one again up the middle and they take this
on up to about the twenty yard line. That's LaRue
Junior gets five and mcdebit's gonna have a thirty three.

Crusaders up seven to nothing. Then here in the second quarter,
Aiden Grella, with his first of two forty two yard
field goals on the night, mcdebitt would go up ten
to nothing. At that point, Crusaders look like they might
open up this game a bit, and then they got
into some penalty trouble. They got backed up deep in
their own territory and then Mechanicsburg would block a punt

you guys in the booth ram, but they always turned
me down. No, that's not true, but just some questions.

We talked a little bit before the game, and you
do all three main sports thing correct, correct. I'm gonna
guess basketball to me, seems like it would be the hardest.
And you're shaking your head already. I would say basketball
only because the fans are on you and if you
have ears at all, you know, but go ahead and

(01:16:04):
tell us what you like don't like. Not by far.

Speaker 11 (01:16:07):
Football is definitely the harder sport to officiate. Yeah, twenty
two guys, that's on the field. The clock's running be
anywhere between twenty five seconds to forty seconds, a lot
of movements, there's a lot of rules, and there's a
whole lot of penalties on the actual game itself, so
well as being a young official going into that atmosphere,

(01:16:27):
there's a whole lot that you can miss. Basketball has
a flow and you can call fouls, traveling, etc.

Speaker 4 (01:16:36):
Et cetera.

Speaker 11 (01:16:37):
And baseball is definitely all situational.

Speaker 4 (01:16:39):
Okay, So basketball is safe to say even though you
hear it, you don't hear it.

Speaker 11 (01:16:44):
Well as being an official, you have to see it
before you call it and let your eyes be your voice.
You ignored the crowd so that you can vision and
process the whole process of evolation.

Speaker 4 (01:16:57):
I learned that one of my friends who's an official
down like Costra County. I learned this and I try
to remind people this. The official has to exhale first,
you know, immediately when you see it as a fan,
you holler, why don't you blown it? He's got to exhale.
It takes a half a second or second to do that.

Speaker 11 (01:17:13):
Correct. I usually give myself, you know, two to three
seconds before I make my ruling. I make sure that
I saw it and I'm processing between my mind and
between my mouth, and then we move on with the
actual call.

Speaker 4 (01:17:27):
Holding. And this is one that you hear all the
in football, you hear all the time that all, it
could be called on every play and things like that.
If it's marginal and it's away from the play, does
that mean you don't or do you? Because if the
play continues long down the field, that guy who was
held up might not get there.

Speaker 1 (01:17:46):
If there's a.

Speaker 12 (01:17:47):
Holding call in high school football that is away from
the play, we are told not to call that actual
play because it has no emphasis on the play because
the play is thirty forty yards down the road.

Speaker 11 (01:18:00):
If a guy pancakes somebody, now we got a problem.

Speaker 4 (01:18:04):
We had a penalty here tonight, and we see it
a lot on all levels of football. Now, where there's
a ball carrier stacked up, progress is done, the whistle's blowing,
guy's pushed a little bit too long. Is that just
a judgment on Okay, they heard the whistle, they should
have let up. How do you call that?

Speaker 11 (01:18:23):
All crews called their vision a little bit different.

Speaker 4 (01:18:26):
I'd believe it.

Speaker 11 (01:18:27):
Because this is a playoff game of district game, they're
going to be making sure that they work to the
whistle so that we can control the game and the
emotions stay out of it.

Speaker 4 (01:18:35):
Okay, last, I guess the last game here two weeks ago,
this was talked about all over here. There was a
hurdling and I had looked this up maybe a year
or so ago, thought I had it right. But for
high school, if you could define when the hurdle penalty
is called, when it's not called hurling.

Speaker 11 (01:18:53):
Is when a defensive player is upright and the offensive
player tries to ejack himself over the person. If the
defensive player is on the ground and the offensive player
jumps over him when he's on the ground, that is
not considered hurtling.

Speaker 4 (01:19:10):
That's just a real simple basic when people can remember,
sure defenders on the ground, you can hurdle. It's upright.
You can't hurt on correct. So I think I asked
which was the heart? What's your favorite other sports?

Speaker 5 (01:19:23):
I don't know.

You're gonna get me, I said, I.

Speaker 4 (01:19:25):
Yeah, get some of your buddies.

Managed Yeah, Well, I played baseball, that was my first
love for my first sport, and then I played basketball
and football as well. But like I said, I love
all three. They all have a different heart than me.

football because I watch more football than I do any

goes into overtime, what's the process, how we're going to
handle that. And then we also make sure that we
get the two minute mark that we all are really
on our toes, especially in the close game like we

I'll ask you one more Ron, and this is one
that I always see. We actually talked about it earlier.
You got to tackle in the field. Maybe the far
ref has it a half a yard. You are different
than the near reft. It's the near reft's call gonna
be the one where you're going to spot the ball.

Yes, the person the ball location is on the line person,
line judge or headline judge, whatever side that is, that's
his call because he's got the better look of where
the actual stoppage play is at and the other officials
was a mirror him as close as possible.

Debit high scored selby Marty Bowman and Vish mcdebitt has
defeated Mechanicsburg here tonight in this District three to five
eight quarterfinal game forty seven to seven scoring recap here
for you. Maurice Barnes with a four yard touchdown run
in the first quarter, it was seven to nothing mcdebitt.
After one Aiden Grella a forty two yard field goal

put the Crusaders up ten to nothing. Mechanicsburg would bounce
back and block a punt after the Crusaders got into
some penalty trouble and they would block the punt for
the touchdown to make a ten to seven mcdebit. They'd
try and surprise mcdebitt with a short kick, but the
Crusaders were not fooled. They got great field position out
of it, and then Maurice Barnes would score from one
yard out to put mcdebit up seventeen to seven. Crusaders

would finish the scoring in the first half with another
forty two yard field goal by Aiden Grella, and mcdebitt
was up twenty to seven at the half. Again, the
Mechanicsburg Wildcats tried to surprise mcdebitt with a short kick
to start the second half. Crusaders would recover it and
then Sebastian Williams if a seven yard touchdown run put
MCDEVID up twenty six to seven at that point. The

extra point was no good. Then the Mechanicsburg would have
it again. They would go forward on fourth down, the
pitch was not good. Mcdebitt would finally pick it up.
Patrick Wright would take it to the house from forty
seven yards out with a pumble recovery for a touchdown.
It was thirty three to seven mcdebit at that point.
Maurice Barnes again with a twenty seven yard touchdown run

made it forty to seven mcdebitt. And then in the
fourth quarter Shaheed Clement with a three yard touchdown run
to put MCDEVDD up forty seven to seven at that point,

to update you right now. So in the big playoff game,
