Radio Station. Guaranteed human. Bishop McDevitt High School Football 2026
is on the air.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Sebastian Williams, back to pass. Pass time. Fires it down
the middle.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
And it's caught by Jontae Quick for a touchdown. This
is the 100th season of Bishop McDevitt football. Thanks for listening.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
And the Crusaders are headed back to the state championship
for the fourth time in five years. Aiden Grella with
the billboard.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
It's now time for kickoff.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
Crusader football is brought to you by Tim Decker of
Green Spring Advisors, Select Medical, and Steve Augello Strategies. Now
let's head out to the field with your game announcers,
Art Selby and Marty Bowman.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
I want to sing in ecstasy through.
Speaker 5 (01:08):
The night like a black dress. Still there, oh say
does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of
the free and the home of the brave?
Speaker 2 (01:39):
All right, welcome back to Rockport Tenzio Stadium here at
Fisher McDevitt High School. Art Selby, Marty Bowman, Eli Fessler
back in the studios. And as always, usually our third guy,
Rob Pugliese, doing PA tonight, as always here at Rockport
Tenzio Stadium. Very emotional night here, Marty, with a lot
(02:00):
of ceremonies from remembering 25 years ago in 9-11.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Yeah, and that was well done in honor of the
young lady lost and for the family. And for America,
it was just well done.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
We got a big game here tonight. Bishop McDevitt and
State College, each team 2-0. When you looked at the schedule,
obviously this game and the Harrisburg game stand out as
far as the mid-pen goes. And obviously good counsel was
a big game to see what you had to start
the year. But more meaningful game here tonight against a
good State College team. They're 2-0. McDevitt, as we mentioned
in the pregame show, beat them last year 36-20. Both
(02:37):
teams obviously reloaded and ready to roll here tonight in
this big game. Great weather tonight, Marty, right around 80
degrees or so. The sun setting off in the distance here. Here, Marty,
I'll get you one there. Thank you. All right, sorry
about that, folks. And Bishop McDevitt tonight in the all-gold
(02:58):
uniforms with the dark numbers gold helmets. And the State
College Little Lions who come on the far side. The
white jerseys, the maroon numbers, the maroon pants, and the
maroon helmets. Always a great game when these two teams
get together, Marty. It's never a boring game whatsoever.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
No, it is not.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
It is not.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
We've seen some really incredible games up there at State
College back in the mid-teens and back in that area.
And just saw some great games. A great game just
two years ago up there.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
And.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
So anxious to have this thing play out and see
exactly what happens.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
That was a game I really felt when McDevitt lost
that night that they just kind of ran out of time.
They'd had another two minutes I think they would have
came back and won that game and it really propelled
McDevitt going into the playoffs to go on and win
the state championship that year Marty and so that's one
of those games that will probably stick out in my head.
I remember driving back to Harrisburg that night and I Obviously,
(04:04):
I wasn't happy that we didn't win, but they showed
a lot of fight that night, a lot of guts
the way they came back, and falling behind in a
big hole and almost won the game. And I really
carried over into the playoffs for them to ride on
to that third state championship for Bishop McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
The old words, metal and moxie, come to mind, words
that we probably used a lot when we were younger.
Did not get used to often. I figured I'd throw
them out there. But, yeah, absolutely was. And, you know,
this is one of these.
You've got to play all 48. You can't get discouraged
in the first six, the first ten, the first half,
because that's the reputation that these games have. So you've
(04:46):
got to play the whole 48 and maybe more.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Well, the sun is behind the trees now, so we
have a nice view of the field here at Rockford
10-2 Stadium. Great crowd for this game. State College has
their band here. State College with an awesome marching band
off on the far side, obviously. They never disappoint as well.
Lulinda will kick this one off. It's short. It'll be
filled at the 30-yard line by State College, and they
will return this one up to about the 37-yard line,
(05:12):
it looks like, over on the far side. I think
that was number 24, Noah Williams, I believe.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
Doesn't sound like a lot, seven yards on that return,
but a kick like that, semi-pooch, semi-hierarchy, and to get
seven on that return is a good deal there for
the Little Lions, and they're in the In good shape
at the 37-yard line.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Here come the Little Lions, led by their quarterback, Connor Kalka.
We hear his name, obviously, a lot tonight. And we'll
also hear their fine running back, Rowan Walker, in the backfield.
He's got two wideouts on the near side for the
Little Lions as they start to drive towards the Union
deposit end of the field here. They'll bring a man
in motion. That's number two. That's Furmanak. And Kalka will
(05:57):
hand this one off up the middle. And Bishop McDevitt
was ready for it. Only a gain on that one.
It'll be second down and nine.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
So that.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Was Rowan Walker, I believe, on the carry there for
the Little Lions. Just getting started here. Rockport Tenzio Stadium.
Eleven and a half minutes left to play. First quarter,
McDevitt and State College. No score in the game. Second
down and nine for the Little Lions. Ball spotted at
the 38-yard line.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
Chris Weir in there, Argon, had the opening tackle for
the Crusaders.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Two wideouts to the near side for State College. Again,
they'll bring a man in motion. Now he stops. They'll
hand this one off up the middle again, and this
time it's a better run for the Little Lions as
they get eight on this one. We'll have a third
down and one for State College. And that, again, is
Rowan Walker.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Yeah, Walker, 5'11, 200. He's a senior, and a good
game there for State.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
College of eight and You mentioned he has five touchdowns
in two games, and now they do a quarterback sneak
up the middle and get more than enough for the
first down. Is that Kalka takes it into McDevitt territory
down to the 49-yard line.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
Yeah, they went quick there, Art, and able to just
do that quarterback sneak and pick up about four on it.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Two wide outs to the near side for State College.
Kalka is under center now. He steps back and goes
back in the shotgun back there with Roland Walker. Looks
over to the far side. Bermanek lines up on the
end here. Palko waits a snap, and here's another handoff,
(07:39):
and this time McDevitt gets in there and defends it well.
No gain on that time for Rowan Walker.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Brian Stewart gets in underneath for McDevitt there and holds
that to a no gain on first down.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
So they'll make it second down and 10. Ball's at
the 49-yard line. Clock ticks under 10 minutes. Left to
play first quarter. Just getting started. Opening possession of the game.
Two wide receivers to the near side. One to the
far for State College. Now again, Furmanek goes in motion.
McDevitt threatens the blitz. And I think McDevitt jumped there, Marty.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
Yeah, I believe that was Ethan Miller jumping off sides
there for the Crusaders.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
Just saw a helmet stick into the zone in there.
And that was enough. That makes it... Second and five
once they mark off the penalty here.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
It's a game, and we talk about it all the time,
but it's a game they can't help. State College out.
You're anxious in there. You want to get in there.
You want to get the point of attack in that
running game, but you have to stay cool on that.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
Two wideouts to the near side. McDevitt threatens the blitz again.
And here's another handoff on the far side to Walker,
and Walker's got the first down and Moore takes it
down to the McDevitt 36-yard line and a gain of
about eight and a first down.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
Walker goes to the outside there. He has Vendemia, one
of the wides, out there blocking for him, and they're
able to pick up another first down.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Good start for State College here as they move the
ball down to the McDevitt 36 and have a first down. 9-25.
Left to play in the first quarter. Just getting started.
We'll have one wide receiver I'll add here by himself.
That's Anderson Fry. Kalka will hand this one off. And again,
(09:41):
Walker on the left side of the line that time
gets a couple. We'll give him three. It'll be second
down and seven.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
Walker does a nice job there for State College in
getting three out of that because McDevitt had blitzed up
the middle, and he was able to actually run right
past the blitz.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Second and seven for the Little Lions again. It's Anderson
Fry all alone out to the side here. State College
in no hurry to snap the ball. Kalko waiting to snap.
and they'll run it again up the middle, and another
(10:22):
good run for State College. Chewing up turf is Rowan Walker,
and he's got another first down.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
McDevitt had some contact there at the line of scrimmage,
but Walker just kind of ran through that and picked
up another first down for State College.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Ball's at the 25, so this is exactly what the
doctor ordered. If you're State College, you're keeping McDevitt's offense
off the field and running the ball, eating up clock.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
And not a surprise, and And we'll talk a little
bit about McDevitt's offense here after this snap.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Again, one wide out to the far side for the
Little Lions. Kalko waits to snap to bring a man
in motion. That's Fry from the near to the far.
And another handoff to Walker. Again, just way too many
yards for Bishop McDevitt as he gets down inside the 19,
a game of about six and a half.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
Yeah, right now State College is going with a heavy line, Art.
Speaker 6 (11:17):
And.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
McDevitt not able to get a helmet on a helmet there.
And therefore, you know, it's allowing State College to pick
up chunk yardage on every play.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
This time the lone wideout Fry goes to the far side.
And another handoff up the middle. This time it is
to number 21, Smith Kirk. And he gets down to
the 14-yard line and a first down for State College.
And the chains move again, Marty.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
Kirk, another senior, 5'11, 190. And they are pretty much
having their own way. on the offensive line.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
They chewed up about four and a half minutes of
the first quarter clock already, too, on this opening drive.
In no hurry to snap the ball, just very methodically
marching down the field. We'll see if McDevitt's defense can
keep him out of the end zone here now, in
the red zone. First and ten at the 14-yard line,
one wide out to the far side. There's another run
(12:13):
up the middle, and it's more of the same. They
get about five that time. It's Keevan Smith-Kirk again.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
What I wanted to say about the McDevitt offense, Art,
is they cannot adjust what they're going to do if
State College takes us in and scores. They have to
play their offense, and that would lead to a shootout,
if you want to call it that.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
They're going to run the ball, which McDevitt defends it well,
but a player from McDevitt didn't get off the field
in time on the sideline here. He was still a
good five yards away from the sideline when the ball
was snapped. So 6.48 left to play in the first quarter.
(13:00):
So even McDevitt's defense stops him there. We'll have the
penalty factored in here.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
I think they might. Now they're going to knock it off.
I thought for a minute they were going to refuse it.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
Yeah, okay. That brings it inside the five-yard line all
the way down to about the four. So it'll be
second down and a short one. 640 left in the
first quarter clock continues to tick. One wide receiver over
(13:44):
on the far side. McDevitt's defense needs to make a play.
And they hand it to Walker up the middle. Gets
the first down, down inside the three, close to the two.
And State College really knocking on the door now, Marty.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
Yeah, they are. Sherman on the tackle for McDevitt. He
got to him quick, Art, but they're inside the five.
It was easy to get to the three.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
Devitt needs State College maybe to make a mistake here.
A penalty, a turnover, something like that. Little Lions have it.
They'll bring a man in motion. That's Fry from the
far side to the near. And they will hand this
one off to Walker again. And he easily walks into
the end zone for State College. They eat up six
minutes of the clock. March down the field and put
(14:30):
up six points on the touchdown run there by Rowan Walker.
And the Little Lions go up 6-0 over McDevitt with
six minutes left to play here in the first quarter.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
Well, this was the big concern, Art. Not fancy, just hard-nosed,
drive-it-at-you football. And they really didn't have any mistakes on
that drive whatsoever.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
And I don't think the extra point is Shane Markowski,
who made a 49-yard field goal earlier this season, so
he's got plenty of leg. And here's the kick. It
is up, and it is good. So we'll take a break.
Six minutes left to play first quarter. State College, an
impressive opening drive. We'll see how McDevitt responds. You're listening

Speaker 1 (15:49):
Electricity on a football field. This is Bishop McDevitt Football
on Fox Sports 1460.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
And welcome back to Rockport 10-0 Stadium here at Bishop
McDevitt High School State College with an impressive drive to
open up the game. Capped off here on the touchdown
run by Rowan Walker. That's his sixth touchdown of the year.
State College eats up six minutes of the clock as well.
They lead 6-0. Nothing here as they will kick off
towards the Union Deposit end of the field here at
Rockport 10-0 Stadium. Art Selby, Marty Bowman, and Eli back
(16:23):
in the studios producing for us tonight. Here is Markowski's kick.
This one is high. It'll be short and caught at
the 10 by McDevitt. They bring this one back to
the 20 and up to about the 24-yard line. That's
John Tate Quick on the kick return for Bishop McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
Quick gets about 14 yards on that return. McDevitt not
in that bad of shape, 24-yard line.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
Yep, just getting started here. No reason to panic. And
we'll see the Crusaders' offense for the first time here
tonight as they will drive Towards the Derry Street end
of the field here at Rockport-Tensio Stadium. 5.53 left to
play the first quarter. State College up 7-0. Here come
the Crusaders. As we mentioned, Sebastian Williams, quarterback. It was
(17:11):
his birthday this week. Waits the snap. And now penalty
flags come flying in here. And that probably will be
a false start against McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
Well, that's the things we talked about. You can't give
them anything. You can't help them. And, you know, when
you're getting a non-contact penalty like that.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
Makes it first down and 15 for Bishop McDevitt back
at the 19-yard line. Holton Jr. out on the far side.
It's Jonte Quick on the near side. Xavier McFarland is
in the backfield. Sebastian Williams awaits the snap. Going to
give this one to McFarland. Takes it up the middle.
He's got a nice run. And McFarland up to the
(18:00):
32-yard line. Gain of 13 for Bishop McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
Just off this left side behind those horses on the
left side of the line, Art. And a good pickup
after the penalty, Art, to get it a second and
very manageable.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
McFarland played really well for Bishop McDevitt last week. Four rushes,
49 yards, and a long touchdown run in that one.
McDevitt has one wide receiver way out in the far side.
Three wide receivers bunched up on that side. Here's a
pass to the outside to Jontae Quick. Wide open. He's
got to 50, 45, and runs out of bounds somewhere
(18:37):
around the 41-yard line is where they'll spot it. First
and 10, Bishop McDevitt. They made that look easy, Marty.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
They did. They really did.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
So Jontae just out on the far side out there
wide open, and Sebastian just got it out there to him.
And Jontae had a block over on the far side
and was able to take it down to the 41.
So first and 10, Bishop McDevitt. Three wide outs on
the near side for the Crusaders, one in the far.
And Sebastian fakes the handoff. Here's a quick pitch to
the outside to Holton Jr., who trips and goes down
(19:14):
back at the 44-yard line. A loss of three.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
Art, we've seen that a couple of times. This year,
and I haven't liked it any of the times. That's
one of those, if you miss it, it's a live
ball because it's not a pass. Now, this could be
something he wants to do a few times earlier on
to set up for down the road in the schedule
for that halfback pass. So that would be a good
(19:40):
reason for it. But you put yourself in a hole.
It's a minus three.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
It's not been a thing of beauty so far. Sebastian
Williams back to pass. Here comes the press. Fires one
down the field. He's got Jaunte quick. Wide open at
the 25. Still going inside the 20 and down to
the 16. Gain a 28. First down, Bishop McDevitt. Great
(20:06):
pass from Sebastian Williams on that one, Marty. He gunned
that one down the field, and Jonte getting open there
for the target, and Jonte with some yards even after
the catch there.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
And how they've been able to get wide open, they
absolutely have on every pattern so far.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
And out of the pistol, they'll give this one to McFarland. McFarland,
it looks like, spins outside. And not much there. Might
have lost a yard on that one. It'll be second
and 11 for Bishop McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
That was never really there. Never really any momentum on
that side of the line. They ran a couple of
sprint draw handoffs before. That was just a straight handoff
and no momentum at all for McFarland.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
Sebastian Williams back to pass. Has time, rolls to the right,
looks down the field. He's going to run it himself,
puts a move on the defender, has a first down,
and goes out of bounds over there around the five-yard line.
What a great job by Sebastian Williams on that one.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
It sure was. It was a great job.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
Looked like he was going to have to go out
around the ten or so, Marty, and he just faked
out that defender with a pump fake and did a
little spin move on him inside the five to pick
up a... The first down and more.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
Sebastian picks up 13 on that.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
Well, spotted at the 6.
Speaker 7 (21:34):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
So it's first and goal, Bishop McDevitt. Two wideouts to
the near side for the Crusaders. One to the far,
one back in the backfield. And they will run this
one on the near side, and State College defends it
well this time. That was McFarland and not much there
for Bishop McDevitt. Looks like Thatcher Hansley will check into
(22:05):
the game for Bishop McDevitt. Creighton Milch is in there
as well still.
Speaker 3 (22:11):
So they're going heavy, Art. I wonder if they're going
to try to go one of the tight ends here.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
Going out on the far side is Zayden Smith. And
Harold Holton is on the near side. Now they do
switch two players from the left end to the right end.
And McDevitt will take it up the middle. Jontae Quick
actually got the ball there. And he gets to the 4,
(22:39):
and that's about it. So we'll have a third down
and goal for Bishop McDevitt at the 4. It's the
third and goal for Bishop McDevitt. Layden Black now is
going to check in for Bishop McDevitt. Plenty of time
on the play clock. It's down to 20. And coming
(23:00):
out of the game is Creighton Milch. So we'll see
if McDevitt can score here. And if they don't, maybe
they'll go for it on fourth down. One wide out
to each side of the field. As I mentioned, black
in the backfield is the running back. Sebastian back to pass.
Comes some pressure. Rolls to the right. Fires to the
back of the end zone. And it's caught for a
(23:20):
Bishop McDevitt touchdown. A four-yard pass, and I believe that
was Holton Jr. I think it was Holton Jr.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
indeed, yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
And that makes it 7-6 State College with a minute
44 left to play here in the first quarter. And
you give the offensive line some credit. They gave Sebastian
some time, and Sebastian with a great job of creating
some time as well as he was able to roll
out there and find his man. He just threw a
strike to Holton there, Marty, in the back of that
(23:48):
end zone.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
Will Linda Anno attempt the extra point for the Crusaders?
And the kick is up, and it is no good.
So Bishop McDevitt trails 7-6, 1.44 left to play in
the first quarter. We'll take a break. You're listening to
Bishop McDevitt Football here on Fox Sports 1460 and iHeartRadio.

Speaker 1 (24:46):
The game everyone circles on the schedule. This is Bishop
McDevitt Football on Fox Sports 1460.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
All right, welcome back to Rocker Tensio Stadium here at
Bishop McDevitt High School. Art Selby, Marty Bowman, and Eli
back in the studios. Bishop McDevitt Trail State College, 7-6 now,
a minute 44 left to play first quarter. The Little
Lions put together a long, methodical drive with some run
in the ball, went up seven zips. McDevitt answers on
(25:14):
a touchdown pass from Sebastian Williams to Holton Jr. Unfortunately,
the extra point is no good. He just couldn't get
the snap down clean there, and so State College continues
to lead 7-6. Here's the kickoff, and the Little Lions
will return this one back to about the 32-yard line,
it looks like, and they will set up shop driving
towards the Union Deposit end of the field here, as
(25:36):
we have a beautiful sunset off in our distance here
with Crusaders trailing 7-6 here now, a minute 35 left
to play in the first quarter, Marty.
Speaker 3 (25:43):
Art, that was a little scary on that kickoff because
it was on the ground, very fast, very quick, took
a big high hop, and they were able to grab
that ball around the 10 and just take off with it. And, yeah,
once again, good field position for the Little Lions.
Speaker 2 (25:58):
You always hate missing that extra point early because then
you feel like you're chasing that point the rest of
the night.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
I'm sure you and I are going to have that discussion.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
All right, so the Little Lions have it. This time
they have two wide receivers out on the far side.
They pretty much just have one wide out on their
first drive, and they will run this one to Walker
on the left side, and McDevitt defends this one pretty
well this time. There's not much there, maybe a yard,
and that's it. That'll make it second down and nine
(26:28):
for State College. The ball is at the 34-yard line,
it looks like. A minute 10 left to play first quarter.
McDevitt down 7-6. Again, two wideouts to the far side
for State College. And they fake the handoff and a
pass to the outside. It just wobbles into the ground
(26:48):
and incomplete. So now McDevitt has the Little Lions in
the third down and 8 with a minute 2 left
to play here. That just messed up on that play.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
They were very fortunate because there was some... Gold jerseys
out there. And he's very fortunate that they can pick
in a pick six. Because had it gotten picked, they
would have had nothing in front of them.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
So third down and eight for State College. Two wide
outs to the far side. Kalka waits the snap. Rolls
to the far side. Here comes the pressure. It's going
to come to the near side. Runs it up the middle.
He's got the first down and more. Takes it up
to midfield and all the way down. In the McDevitt territory,
and that was market actually just shy of the 50 now.
Speaker 3 (27:36):
Kalka was in trouble there, had some gold jerseys around him.
Once he got his first step, he made a cut
after that. He was able to get out of there.
That was the opportunity for McDevitt to get him and,
you know, force them to punt.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
So first down and 10 at midfield, 35 seconds left
to play first quarter. McDevitt down 7-6. Again, they go
back to the one wide out on the far side.
They'll hand this one off to Walker, and he runs
into a lot of resistance trying to make something happen,
and McDevitt says no as they take him down immediately there.
No gain. That may be the final play of the
(28:13):
first quarter here. We're down to 12 seconds left. State
College in no hurry to snap the ball. Five seconds left.
State College is out there, and the clock ticks down
to zero. So after one quarter of play in a
very entertaining first quarter here at Rockortenzio Stadium at State

Harrisburg's elite high school football program. This is Bishop McDevitt
Football on Fox Sports 1460.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
Hi, welcome back to Rock Hortensia Stadium here at Bishop
McDevitt High School. Art Selby, Marty Bowman, and Eli back
in the studios. Kalka back to pass. Thought McDevitt was
going to get to him. Airs one out down the field.
And this one is incomplete in the end zone. Good
coverage by Bishop McDevitt as Kalka tried to air that
one off. Great throw, Marty, and just unable to come
(30:33):
down with it. And good defense by Bishop McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (30:36):
Kind of flicked it there. It got 50 yards.
Speaker 7 (30:38):
Kalka's on the front end.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
He's stepping up. So that makes it third down and 10.
11.52 left to play in the first half here. McDevitt
down 7-6. Another opportunity for McDevitt's defense to get off
the field here.
Speaker 3 (30:54):
Elijah Sherman there in that coverage for Mr. McDevitt. Interesting,
there were two guys right there in that same pattern
for State College and two defenders. And Sherman fortunately there
for McDevitt.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
Two wideouts to the near side, one to the far,
and that'll bring a man in motion. Kalka back to pass.
Here comes the pressure. Dumps off a little screen pass
on the outside that works. Out here to number two.
That's Firminac, and he's able to run down to the
38 for a first down.
Speaker 3 (31:23):
Nice screen. He kind of just shuffled that ball out there, Art,
and almost like a shuffled pass on that screen. And
there was one defender there that could have gotten it,
and the defender committed. and he was able to just
skirt right around him for the first down.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
He had a guy blitzing Baron down on both sides
of him there, and like you said, he just kind
of shot put that ball off, and it was enough
to make the play for the first down. First and
ten at the 39-yard line of Bishop McDevitt. Kalka will
hand this one off to Walker, and this time McDevitt
defends it well again. No gain that time for State College.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
State College, Art, has really been able to come up
with big plays. You know, he was during his first
half when they needed him. Third down plays, that was
one of them right there. And, you know, kept the
drive alive. A couple of big plays on the first drive.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
Balls at the 39-yard line. Bishop McDevitt second down and
nine here. Second and ten. 10.50 left to play first half.
McDevitt down 7-6. Crusaders missed the extra point on their
touchdown drive. Polka will dump one to the outside out
there to Walker, and Walker, with a nice run on it,
takes it inside to 30. Now a penalty flag comes
(32:40):
flying in late. We'll see if that's a hold on
State College. That would be just what the doctor would
order for Bishop McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
Yeah, it's funny because I saw a hold early, and
then the flag came very late, and it is on
State College.
Speaker 2 (32:55):
It's a hold.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
And I was hoping that they weren't getting something else
on that. Mark, lots of... good things for State College
is Kalka is a junior, and he manages, more than
manages this offense quite well for the Little Lions. So
they have to be excited about that.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
Yeah, he's played well for the Little Lions this year. 23-37,
333 yards on the season. So he's done a nice job,
and three touchdowns for State College. Ball comes back to
the 45, though. It'll be second down and 16, so
enough opportunity for McDevitt's defense again here to get off
(33:35):
the field.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
Well, a lot of this has to do with responsibility
and that McDevitt secondary and the linebackers making sure that
they're picking up these coming out of the backfield.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
Two wideouts to the near side to bring a man
in motion. Kalka rolls to the near side and Kalka
eludes the defenders, fires one down the field. This one's
complete inside the 30-yard line. The number 28 We're down
to the 28th, a firm neck again, and Kalka very elusive,
you would say, Marty.
Speaker 3 (34:07):
He is, and he really had the best of both worlds.
He could have ran, might have picked up the first
down anyway, but he decided to throw, pick up a
little extra yardage on that.
Speaker 2 (34:19):
Several times tonight, it looked like McDevitt was going to
get there, and Kalka just able to slip away and
make a play for the Little Lions. It's first down
and 10 at the McDevitt 29, so they pick up
the first down on one play. 9-40 left to play
first half. State College up 7-6. They give this one
to Walker, and Walker with about a 4-yard gain on
(34:40):
this one down to the 26-yard line.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
Art, even when there's nothing there, Walker seems to find something.
That was really stuffed there by the McDevitt front four,
but Walker able to make a sidestep and get some
yardage on that.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
And not only does State College move the ball, they
eat up a lot of clock on these drives as
well as they're doing it again here. We're already down
to nine minutes left to play in the first half.
McDevitt's only seen the ball once. Drill 7-6. And here's
a handoff. They try the right side out there. And
that is number 21 against Smith-Kirk. Right around the chains.
(35:28):
Don't see the chains moving yet. I mean, it's They've
got to be so close. And now they do move
the chains and say first down, State College.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
Once again, he made a nice move halfway through that
run to get outside. And McDevitt had their defense commit
to the inside. And once he was able to get
around that, he was able to pick up good yardage.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
8.49 left to play first half. It'll be first down
and 10, State College at the 19-yard line of Bishop McDevitt.
They lead the Crusaders 7-6. And here's a handoff to Walker.
And McDevitt this time gets in there and a quick tackle.
He got a yard on that one, Marty.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
Yeah, Tom, I think that was Ethan Miller. Milch also
in on the tackle for the Crusaders.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
Second and 10. McDevitt really want to try and hold
them to a field goal attempt here if at all possible.
8-20 left to play first half. One wide out to
each side of the field for State College. Kalka awaits
the snap. Kalka under pressure, fires one down the field.
(36:44):
He's got his man wide open at the 10. And
pushing forward into the end zone is Firmnick with a touchdown.
And again, it looked like they were going to get
to Kalka. Just kind of shuffled it off, and Furmanek
made the rest happen himself. Marty and the Little Lions
go up 13-6 with 8.02 left to play in the
first half.
Speaker 3 (37:03):
Kalka is kind of amazing. I mean, he shuffles. He
throws sidearm. He's just able to get rid of the ball,
and he put that one right on the money. Furmanek.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
So 8.02 left to play in the first half, and
State College is up 13-6. And on the kick is Markowski.
And the line drive kick is up, and that one
does go through the uprights. That one might have missed,
(37:36):
but it does sneak through.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
Yeah, I thought they were going to help us there.
They kicked it low, but they only get it over
the crossbar because then we wouldn't have had to talk
about chasing that point. And I'll tell you why, and
we've discussed this over the years. I like going after
it right away because that way you always know. And
if you get it on that first time, You don't
(37:58):
have to be thinking about it anymore. You know, what
are we going to do if? What are we going
to do if? What are we going to do when?
So that's why I prefer to go after it. And
if you don't get it, you just keep going after it.
Speaker 2 (38:11):
All right, so 8.02 left to play here in the
first half. McDevitt trails now 14-6. Two impressive drives by
the State College Little Lions. And now McDevitt, who also
scored on its lone possession, now will get its second
opportunity tonight to try and go down and maybe tie
this game up here.
Speaker 3 (38:29):
Caden Walker and Jonte Quick, deep for the Crusaders.
Speaker 2 (38:33):
Markowski on to kickoff for State College as he will
kick off towards the Derry Street end of the field.
McDevitt in their all-gold uniforms tonight. And here's Markowski's kick.
This one will be caught at the 5-yard line by
the Crusaders. They bring it back to the 15th. Back
to the 20, and breaking outside, that's Walker, I believe,
all the way up to the 41-yard line.
Speaker 3 (38:55):
Yeah, Walker just casually gets up there to the contact area,
and then he just puts the Jets on. Good field
position for the Crusaders.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
So Walker, who had some nice kick returns for Bishop
McDevitt in the Week 1 win here against Good Counsel,
puts the Crusaders in good field position here. as they
will now drive towards the Union deposit end of the field.
Trail on 14-6, 7.55 left to play first half. This
is McDevitt's second possession of the game. One wide out
to each side. of the field. Sebastian Williams will hand
(39:32):
this one off and Walker is brought down back in
the backfield back at the 39 yard line.
Speaker 3 (39:40):
Anderson Fry does a nice job there catching him from behind.
It looked like he was going to have some room.
Pick up a few yards and uh They just, as
I said, Fry just caught him from behind.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
Second and 11. It's a 39-yard line. Crusaders break huddle here.
Zayden Smith is out on the far side out there
with Jaunte Quick. Holton Jr. on the near side for
Bishop McDevitt. Sebastian back to pass. Fires one down the
field and a nice diving play out there by Fry.
Knocks that one down. And he had to make a
(40:18):
great play in the secondary there. That would have been
a big play for McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
Yeah, that big Paul one up there, he's every bit
a 6-plus, 6'2.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
205 pounds. So it's 3rd and 11 now for McDevitt.
Obviously a huge play here as they've been unable to
stop the Little Lions offense. McDevitt wanting to tie this
thing up. They'll send three wideouts on the far side,
one back in the backfield. That's Walker, I believe. Sebastian
waits to snap. Actually, that's Black in the backfield. They
(40:55):
dump it off to Black, and he will not get
to the first down as he's tackled down at about
the 43-yard line, and McDevitt's going to have a fourth
down in about seven.
Speaker 3 (41:06):
Black just unable to really make a move. You like
when you get that ball to your wide out in
the flat art where he can make a move and
beat the defenders out there. It's just well covered by
State College. He just wasn't able to make a move
out there.
Speaker 2 (41:26):
One wide out on each side of the field here
from McDevitt in the punt formation. Now penalty flag comes
flying in here. We'll see if McDevitt had too many
men in the field. A legal substitution against McDevitt. 6.38
(41:52):
left to play here. First half, McDevitt down 14-6. They
get the penalty. Should make it fourth down and 12.
Ball comes back to the 38-yard line. One man back
deep now for State College at the 25-yard line. And
now another whistle. Officials checking things over here.
Speaker 3 (42:18):
I think they're concerned about the spot, Art, that it's
not an accurate spot. Could be wrong. The near sideline
judge went to the middle, and then from the middle,
somebody went to the far side, and it looks like
(42:41):
we're ready to go.
Speaker 2 (42:44):
Ball just shy of the 39-yard line or so. I
think Jonte Quick is back deep to punt for Bishop McDevitt.
Standing at his 25-yard line. Now the officials start the clock.
McDevitt down 14-6. And Jonte will run to the outside
(43:05):
and kicks a nice punt down the field inside the 30.
And this one will keep rolling and be downed at
around the 22-yard line. So nice job there by John
Tate Quick. And obviously, as we talked about earlier, he's
a weapon back there when he punts it because he
can take off with it. And I think he thought
about it for a second there, but just went with
(43:25):
the punt. And now it's up to McDevitt's defense to
get off the field here. No one plans to get
sick or hurt. It just happens. And when it does,
Select Medical is here to help you heal, restore function,

have it as they'll drive towards the Derry Street end
of the field. Here's Walker again. Walker up the middle.
Busts up the middle for a couple. Penalty flag comes
(44:09):
flying in. towards the end of the play. Let's see
if this is another hold against State College. 6-0-9 left
to play first half. They have a 14-6 lead here
over Bishop McDevitt, and there is the holding call on
the Little Lions. So again, another opportunity for McDevitt here.
(44:30):
State College commits the penalty, and McDevitt's defense has got
to rise up here and get this ball back. Ball
goes all the way back to the 13 yard line
it looks like.
Speaker 3 (44:42):
Could be first.
Speaker 2 (44:47):
First and 20 I believe at the 13. See what
the Crusaders defense comes up with here as the little
lines line up two wide outs to the far side.
Kalka awaits the snap. Now they'll go in motion with Walker.
Kalka's going to keep it himself. Takes it to the
(45:10):
Up the middle a little bit, gets up to the
21-yard line. Got about eight on that one. That's just
too much if you're Bishop McDevitt there, Marty.
Speaker 3 (45:18):
Yeah, quarterback draw. I mean, it was a design run.
Just take a step back after you get the snap
and then take off and got most of the penalty back.
Speaker 2 (45:29):
Second and 12 at the 21. Substitution for McDevitt as
Leighton Black comes onto the field for Princeton-Kanama. Maybe a
cramping issue there. Two wideouts to the far side for
State College on second and 12. Kalka's got two wideouts
on the far side. He's back to pass. Kalka over
(45:51):
the middle. And this one is complete up to the 40.
And he zipped that one in between two defenders for
a first down for State College. And that was number three, Vendurnia.
Speaker 3 (46:04):
Yeah, Max Vendurnia. Art, it was wide open. He just
did a, you know, a cross square in, and Kalka
put it right on the money.
Speaker 2 (46:18):
And they fake the handoff. The fire went quickly to
the outside. Another completion for State College. That's Anderson Fry
over the 50-yard line, down to the 49 of Bishop McDevitt,
and another first down for State College, Marty.
Speaker 3 (46:31):
State College showing the ability here to not only run
the football, but they have a very... Distinguished passing game,
if I can use that word.
Speaker 2 (46:42):
Two wideouts to the near side for State College. Bring
a man in motion. That's Fermanek. Now Kalka will look
over to the sideline here. State College with a 14-6 lead,
4-15 left to play first half. And the ball just
entering McDevitt territory. Two wideouts to the near side. And
(47:05):
here's a handoff to Walker. And again, Walker with a
nice run of about five yards down to the McDevitt
45-yard line as the clock ticks under four minutes left
to play here in the first half.
Speaker 3 (47:17):
Really doesn't matter which side of the line State College
is running. When Walker runs the football, he gets chunks.
Speaker 2 (47:26):
Fry goes out on the far side. Demia, the wide receiver,
alone on the near side for State College. Kalka surveys
the McDevitt defense. Quick pass to the outside and this
one is incomplete I believe this time. Tried to hit
(47:48):
Fry on that one and again it's third and six
for McDevitt. Can the Crusaders get a stop?
Speaker 3 (47:57):
Yeah, it's almost a must and I am just thinking
that they're going to take Two plays if they need
to to get these five yards. Just that is how
I view it.
Speaker 2 (48:10):
3.31 left to play first half. McDevitt down 14-6. Little
Lions with a third and six at the 45. Abish
and McDevitt. Two wide outs to the near side. Kalka
waits a snap to bring a man in motion again.
That's firm. Kalka back to pass. Dumps one to the outside.
And Walker catches it. But McDevitt stops him about four
(48:31):
yards short of the first down.
Speaker 3 (48:34):
Walker is able to, you know, maybe one and a
half or two yards after the catch, which are big
now for this fourth down.
Speaker 2 (48:42):
Let's see if State College punts this away. It does
appear they will as Markowski runs onto the field.
Speaker 3 (48:48):
And I know I'm going to be wrong on this,
but I'm totally surprised that they're going to punt here.
Speaker 2 (48:54):
Chance goes back at the 10-yard line for Bishop McDevitt.
If you're the Crusaders, you've got to watch the fake here.
Markowski standing back at his 41-yard line. And Markowski does
indeed punt it. It's a very high booming punt that
McDevitt will let bounce. It's short and actually takes a
(49:17):
crusader roll. Looks like they touched it at around the
26-yard line. So McDevitt's defense gets the stop they needed, Marty.
Speaker 3 (49:26):
And I can understand the philosophy on that with State
College is make McDevitt have to go most of the
length of the field if they're going to get a
touchdown here.
Speaker 2 (49:39):
The ball is at the 26-yard line. McDevitt now will
get it and have an opportunity to drive towards the
Union deposit end of the field here. 2.33 left to
play in the half. So, I mean, ideally for McDevitt,
you go down and tie this thing up and you'll
get the ball to start the second half. So we'll
see here. Sebastian Williams awaits the snap. Back to pass.
(50:01):
Fires one to the outside. This is complete up to
the 40 and taking it down the field for Bishop McDevitt.
For a first down and more. That was Smith, I believe,
on the catch for Bishop McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (50:17):
Zade Smith, Art, almost a carbon copy of the touchdown
that he had against East last week in front of
us when he was able to keep that sideline and
run past people. This time he just didn't have enough
to get down that sideline. But first down, good field position.
Speaker 2 (50:36):
Balls at the 48-yard line of State College here. First
and 10, McDevitt. 2.24 left to play first half. Two
wideouts to each side of the field to bring a
man in motion from the far side to the near.
That's Holton Jr. They dump one out here to the
outside here. And down the field goes Bishop McDevitt. That
is number 25, Caden Walker.
Speaker 6 (50:54):
And he will take it.
Speaker 2 (50:55):
To the house for a Bishop McDevitt touchdown. 52 yards.
And Crusaders answer back. 2-13 left to play first half.
It's 14-12 State College.
Speaker 3 (51:08):
Just the screenplay. And you know State College saw a
lot of that on the film from the first game.
But even with that, Bishop McDevitt's... Caden Walker able to
just beat the defenders.
Speaker 2 (51:24):
And the Crusaders will just elect to attempt the extra
point here, not try and even this thing up here.
Linda Anoa attempt the extra point. And here's the kick.
This one is up, and this time it is good.
So 2-13 left to play first half. We'll take a timeout.
McDevitt right back in it. State College leads 14-13 over McDevitt.
(51:47):

Speaker 1 (52:25):
The blue and gold play right here on Fox Sports 1460.
Speaker 2 (52:30):
All right, welcome back to Rocco Tensio Stadium at Fisher
McDevitt High School. And not only did the Crusaders get
the stop defensively that they needed, they score almost immediately.
52-yard touchdown pass from Sebastian Williams to Caden Walker. Crusaders
elected just to kick the extra point, don't try and
tie it. And they trail 14-13 now with 2.13 left
(52:51):
to play. In the first half, scoreboard shows that McDevitt
has all three timeouts left. So the Crusaders can get
a stop and might see if they can get the
ball back. It's a short kickoff, and it's down on
the ground, and one of the State College players fields it.
That was number three, Endemia. So Bishop McDevitt's defense now
(53:17):
got to be feeling a little bit better about things.
We'll take the field here. With 2.11 left to play
in the first half, drowned by a point again, Marty.
Speaker 3 (53:27):
Important for the defense here not to give up a
big play and possibly get the ball back. But I
don't know how much, unless you get a big sack
or a penalty, I don't know if you're Coach Wechter
how much you want to use timeouts that might give
State College extra times, extra attempts.
Speaker 2 (53:52):
Yeah, we'll see what happens on these first two plays
if McDevitt can.
And they will run this one on the near side,
and it's a nice run by Walker up to the
34-yard line, so they immediately get nine on the first
down carry, and they will hurry up here. Two wideouts
(54:14):
to the far side, one to the near.
Speaker 3 (54:15):
If you were thinking about taking a timeout, that's out
the window now.
Speaker 2 (54:19):
Kalko with a quick pass to the outside to Fry.
And Fry will run up to the 39-yard line for
a first down for State College.
Speaker 3 (54:28):
Now if you're McDevitt, you're holding off. Yeah, just trying
to hold on, I mean. You don't want to give
anything else up.
Speaker 2 (54:34):
Minute 43 left to play first half. Two wideouts to
the far side. One of them near Kalko rolls to
the far side. Now he's going to go for it
down the field. And this one is incomplete. Tried to
hit over the shoulder and the sideline over there. It
looked like, I think that was Firmanek, I believe. Good
coverage for Bishop McDevitt over there on the far side.
Speaker 3 (54:58):
Austin Mack, the corner on that coverage for the Crusaders.
Speaker 2 (55:04):
So it's second down and 10 now, the 39-yard line.
So now if you're McDevitt and you can get an
incompletion or a short gain, you're You've still got the
three timeouts left and have a shot here, but you
need to come up with a play here on second
and 10 at the 39. Kalka back to pass. Here
(55:24):
comes the pressure. Kalka running, eludes several tacklers, and will
get up to about the 45-yard line. And, Margie, there
were three McDevitt players back there, and he was just
able to run away from them all.
Speaker 3 (55:37):
He's a very impressive runner. Flag came from way downfield
in the McDevitt secondary. If it was a hold, it
was towards the... And now they're... It looks like they're
talking to State College, so... It's going to be against Mr. McDevitt,
I believe.
Speaker 2 (55:52):
Some of the Crusaders thought it was, I think, on
the Little Lions, but.
Well... Now they're... State College is backing up. Now they're
talking to Coach Wechter... So I'm going to say it's
(56:16):
on State College.
Speaker 3 (56:17):
Yep, and that it is.
Speaker 2 (56:20):
Minute 23 left to play now, and it's holding State College.
Speaker 3 (56:24):
It was very late. The play literally was over.
Speaker 2 (56:27):
So that brings it back to the 34-yard line. It
makes it second down and 15 for State College. Minute
23 left to play in the half. Devitt down 14-13,
and Crusaders have not gotten a turnover yet here tonight,
(56:55):
looking for a big defensive play here. Two wideouts to
the near side, one to the far. Kalka will hand
this one off to Walker, and Walker takes it up
the middle for a short gain. Now it's third down
and 12, and see if McDevitt uses the timeout here.
Speaker 3 (57:12):
Coach down there deciding not to use it.
Speaker 2 (57:15):
53 seconds left to play. In the first half, McDevitt
down 14-13.
Speaker 3 (57:25):
I would think, Art, if they don't get a first
down here, that Coach Wechter would call that just so
they get an opportunity to field a punt.
Speaker 2 (57:32):
McDevitt threatens the blitz. Now if you're Kalka, I wouldn't
snap it until the whole play clock runs down here.
So two wideouts to the near side, one to the far.
Kalka back to pass. Plenty of time. Fires one down
the middle. He's got a man wide open at the 45.
And down to the 32-yard line of Bishop McDevitt. Keep
(57:56):
in mind, they have a kicker that made a 49-yard
field goal this season. So they are right on the
verge of his range at this point, Marty.
Speaker 3 (58:04):
Yeah, and they do use the timeout there. Let a
few seconds run off that they shouldn't have. But you've
got the timeout. So, Art, all the reason why you
Didn't want to use timeouts. You didn't want to give
them any more chances to get a chunk play, and
(58:24):
they got one on that.
Speaker 2 (58:26):
And they could have drove a truck out there. He
was so wide open down the middle of the field.

So McDevitt trails 14-13, 16 seconds left to play in
the first half. It's first down and 10 from the
(59:07):
McDevitt 33 for State College. And if you're McDevitt here,
you absolutely cannot allow a touchdown. Field goal is not
the end of the world. You can still get the
ball to start the third quarter and have a chance
to take the lead. Two wideouts to the near side.
Kalka back to pass. Here comes the pressure. Fires one
down the middle. He's got a man inside the 20.
(59:27):
And down to the 18-yard line. That's Fry again. Eight
seconds left to play. In the first half here.
Speaker 3 (59:39):
They have time depending on how they choose to do it.
They took another time out, I believe.
Speaker 1 (59:45):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (59:46):
So they have an opportunity, Art, to.
Do one more play, unless you're Michigan, then you get
two or three. But they have the opportunity here to
go for the end zone and then decide to go
ahead and kick it. If you have an incomplete pass,
(01:00:08):
falls it to 19, 26, 27. It's a 36 or
37-yard field goal. David elected to not call a timeout there.
Speaker 2 (01:00:18):
With about 35 seconds left on the third down and long.
And it's almost like the defense fell asleep. And now
they've allowed two deep balls down the field here. And
McDevitt now with eight seconds left. I'm sure they'll take
one shot at the end zone here probably. And they
still do have one timeout left in case there's a sack.
(01:00:42):
McDevitt needs to hold them out of the end zone
here and still be in good shape. Here come the
Little Lions onto the field. Ball is at the 18-yard
line of Bishop McDevitt. Now they'll put an extra second
back on the clock. It's back to nine seconds. Here
(01:01:11):
come the Little Lions back onto the field. Walker's in
the backfield back there, Marty, next to quarterback Kalka. One
wide out to each side of the field.
Speaker 3 (01:01:22):
I leak Walker out of the backfield. They're keeping him
in to block.
Speaker 2 (01:01:25):
Here comes the pressure again. Kalka down the middle, and
this one's too high and out of bounds into the
back of the end zone. So just five seconds left,
and now I would think Markowski would come on to
attempt this 35-yard field goal. We'll see if McDevitt can
block this. Markowski will come on. Ball is spotted on
(01:01:53):
the 18-yard line. Four seconds left to play in the
first half. McDevitt down 14-13. There's Markowski. And now McDevitt's
going to take a timeout to try and freeze him
here with four seconds left in the first half. Bishop

(01:02:39):
back onto the field. Four seconds left in the first half.
McDevitt down 14-13. Markowski will come on. Understand he made
a 49-yarder and it actually hit the upright and bounced
over for the 49-yarder. Let's see what he can do
here against McDevitt here. Crowd getting into it on the
(01:03:05):
McDevitt sideline. Cheering for a block. See if the Crusaders
can get in there and tip this one. waiting for
the snap and the kick is up and it's blocked
Bishop McDevitt State College falls on it but that's how
the first half went so the Crusaders get a big
(01:03:28):
field goal block there Marty and they'll have some momentum
heading into the locker room now just trailing 14-13 absolutely.
Speaker 3 (01:03:34):
Really the best scenario you could ask for Art to
end the half for McDevitt you know a little their
defense was tired Right before that snap, you could see
this guy's retired. But the kick got off low, and
they managed to get a block on it. So they
got to the locker room.
Speaker 2 (01:03:52):
All right, so we're at the half. We'll have our
halftime show coming up next. We're at Bishop McDevitt Trail
State College in a good one, 14-13. Eli Fessler will
have scores during our halftime show as well. And we'll
be back after this with a scoring recap for you.
McDevitt Trail's 14-13. You're listening to Bishop McDevitt Football here
on Fox Sports 1460 and iHeartRadio. All right, welcome back
(01:04:14):
to Rockport 10CO Stadium here at Bishop McDevitt High School.
Art Selby, Marty Bowman, Eli back in the studios tonight
as State College is taking the field on the far
side to our left doing their warm-up drills tonight in
their white jerseys with the maroon numbers, maroon pants, and
maroon helmets. We have the State College marching band off
(01:04:37):
on the far side, and we always... Don't see a
lot of great marching bands anymore, Marty. When we come
to some of these games, State College definitely really has
a marching band.
Speaker 3 (01:04:46):
That is a very good, yes.
Speaker 2 (01:04:48):
They do it right. Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (01:04:49):
They really do do it right. And again, you don't
see the amount of participants in a lot of bands
like you see in State College here and then you're out.
You know, we've been talking here and you almost really
got to feel good if you're McDevitt.
Speaker 2 (01:05:06):
Yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 3 (01:05:06):
I mean, State College put up some yardage, and they
put up some chunks, and you're down a missed extra point.
That's it. So you've really got to feel good about
where you're at, I think, if you're Bishop McDevitt.
Speaker 2 (01:05:18):
Yeah, and if you're McDevitt, you really want to go
down and get a touchdown and take the lead. Maybe
you think about going for that two to reestablish a
seven point, and then we'll see what defensive adjustments Crusaders
can come up with at the half, if they can
get the lead, maybe get a stop, and then start
playing from ahead here. in this second half. But it's
(01:05:38):
going to be real interesting to see how things start
here immediately in the third quarter here tonight at Rocco
Tensio Stadium.
Speaker 3 (01:05:45):
Both teams were not doing a good job picking up
the secondary receivers over the middle. I mean, there were
some wide-open receivers on both offenses.
Speaker 2 (01:05:55):
So we're here at the half. Marty, first off, I
mentioned it earlier, I want to wish you a happy birthday.
Thank you. A belated happy birthday yesterday. Do you want
to say how many years young you are? 74.
Speaker 3 (01:06:05):
74, okay.
Speaker 2 (01:06:07):
And just slightly above Sebastian Williams, who also celebrated a birthday.
Speaker 3 (01:06:11):
Yeah, same birthday, the same day. I told his mom,
I said, you know, he gets the notoriety, and all
I got was a tasty cake.
Speaker 2 (01:06:21):
And we want to say hi to Alicia. She was
up here in the front box saying hi to us. And, Marty,
have you noticed how many drinks exactly do I have
over here? I've got to go with six. And we've
got two lemonades up here. We've got two bottles of water.
a Mountain Dew, and a Dr. Pepper.
Speaker 3 (01:06:36):
That does add up to six in my books.
Speaker 2 (01:06:38):
I was down in Tennessee last weekend to see a
Tennessee volunteer game, and it was so hot in the
upper deck that I needed all six of those drinks,
I think, on Saturday. Unfortunately, I only had two of them.
I think I saw over 300 people had issues with
heat exhaustion in that game. I love football, and I
can deal with the heat, but I'm telling you, that
(01:06:59):
was right on the borderline of what I can deal
with sitting out in the hot sun in the... upper
deck of Neyland.
Speaker 3 (01:07:06):
Alright, I want to give a shout out real quick
to Emma and Ryan. A couple of fans here tonight
and cheering on the Crusaders.
Speaker 2 (01:07:15):
We're just about ready to get back to football action
here as State College will kick off. They will kick
off towards the Derry Street end of the field to
start the third quarter. And Bishop McDevitt with Walker and
John Tate Quick back deep.
Speaker 3 (01:07:31):
I don't want to be selfish and it's early in
the year, but I wouldn't mind a kickoff return here.
Speaker 2 (01:07:37):
Yeah, I wouldn't complain a whole lot myself. So we're
ready to go here. Markowski will kick off. And it's
a short kick over in the far sideline. And McDevitt
does a nice job of catching that one over there
in the far side. Marty trying to get a number
on that. I think that was, is that 18 for McDevitt?
Speaker 3 (01:07:57):
And here.
Speaker 2 (01:07:58):
Yeah, Konama.
Speaker 3 (01:07:59):
Konama, yeah, okay.
Speaker 2 (01:08:01):
He did a fantastic job of catching that thing. I mean,
that's a live ball, obviously.
Speaker 3 (01:08:05):
That's a live ball. He almost had to turn his
body the whole way around. It was going over his shoulder.
And he was going to get drilled as soon as
he caught it. And he was able to hold on.
So that's huge. That's big.
Speaker 2 (01:08:15):
What a great play by Konama there to save the
day for Bishop McDevitt. It's a nice try there by
State College to surprise mcdevitt the crusaders answer and now
they have the ball first down and 10 at the
31 yard line as they drive towards the union deposit
end of the field sebastian back to pass fires one
to the outside and a diving attempt to catch it
(01:08:38):
by harold holton jr on the far side and i
believe they wrote it incomplete.
Speaker 3 (01:08:44):
Yeah they did seem like the line judge on that
side had a really good front view of that so
he was looking right at it up the field.
Speaker 2 (01:08:54):
So Second and 10, McDevitt is the 31. crusaders have
it holton jr on the near side jaunte quick on
the far side one back in the backfield behind sebastian
now to bring a man in motion And the Crusaders
will run it on the near side. That's Walker, and
(01:09:16):
he's tackled down from behind back at the 31-yard line.
A flag comes flying in from way downfield.
Speaker 3 (01:09:21):
And if that's against McDevitt, which I believe it is,
they're going to, you know, if State College got a
decision to make here.
Speaker 2 (01:09:31):
I think you'd decline it if you're... Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 5 (01:09:34):
We'll see.
Speaker 2 (01:09:37):
We'll see. 11-44 left to play in the third quarter,
just getting started in the second half. Crusaders down 14-13.
So there's the hold against McDevitt. They decline it. So McDevitt,
(01:09:58):
just like that, is in a third down situation, third
and nine.
Speaker 3 (01:10:04):
No matter what happens on this play, I think it's
the right decision for State College.
Speaker 2 (01:10:10):
Yeah, I could see the argument either way, but this
McDevitt offense is so explosive. You can hold them to
one play. Crusaders rush up to the line of scrimmage
here quickly. They have two wide outs on this side
of the field, three on the far side. Sebastian back
to pass, fires one to the outside. This is complete,
(01:10:32):
but well short of the first down. They threw it
up to the 35-yard line and hit.
Thatcher hands Lee, but well short of the first down.
Speaker 3 (01:10:41):
Yeah, I mean, I really think that's a play where
you've got to run a pattern to the stick. And
that might have been the pattern not to the stick.
It might have been underneath as a sort of a
safety valve, but only a safety valve. Not going to
get the first down on that.
Speaker 2 (01:11:00):
So McDevitt will have to punt. Now here's a situation
where does John Tate Quick think about running it? Comes
to the near side and does get this thing off.
It's a line drive kick. Rolls down the field and
keeps rolling inside the 20 and down to the 19
yard line. Great job there by Jaunty. Quick to get
that thing off and able to get some roll on
(01:11:24):
it down the field.
Speaker 3 (01:11:25):
Scared me a little bit there. He almost ran right
into a block on that. But he knew what he
was doing. A good job.
Speaker 2 (01:11:34):
Now we'll get to see if the McDevitt Defense can
adjust a few things here and try and slow this
State College offense down. We'll all be at the 19
as the Little Lions will get it and drive towards
the Dairy Street end of the field here at Rockford
Tenzio Stadium. Ten and a half minutes left to play
in the third quarter. McDevitt Trails 14-13. Little Lions with
(01:11:58):
two wideouts to the near side. One to the far.
Looks like Walker's in the backfield back there with Kalka.
Now they'll bring a man in motion. Fry goes in
motion from the farther than near. Kalka actually does hand
it off to Walker, and Walker with a nice run
up the middle all the way up to the 31-yard line, Marty,
(01:12:20):
a gain of 12.
Speaker 3 (01:12:21):
Do you notice how patient he was? You know, waiting
for the hole to open up and then hit some.
I'll tell you what, they've got a good runner and
they've got a good quarterback. That's a good start on anything.
Speaker 2 (01:12:35):
Three wide outs to the near side for State College.
They fake the hand off the walker. Here's a quick
pass to the outside out here to Fry, and Fry
leaps into the air, gets up to the 39-yard line,
gain of eight. It'll be second and two. So State
College on the move again here. So McDevitt gave him
(01:12:58):
the ball back quickly. Again, three wide outs to the
near side. They hand this one off to Walker. He's
got the first down and more and just refusing to
go down. Gets all the way up to the McDevitt
49-yard line and a first down gain of 12.
Speaker 3 (01:13:14):
Walker just impresses you every time he touches the ball, Art.
Speaker 2 (01:13:20):
Now a McDevitt player injured on the play. Just a
little shaken up as he gets up in the Runs
off the field for the Crusaders. That was Sherman, I believe,
on that one, Marty. 9.40 left to play third quarter.
(01:13:41):
Devitt's defense has got us stiff in here, trailing 14-13
here in the third quarter. They got the ball to
start the third quarter, but couldn't do anything with it.
And now State College has it back. State College started
back at around their own 19-yard line, I believe, and
they've already moved it all the way to midfield here.
(01:14:02):
Polka's got three wideouts to the near side, and they
will hand this one off up the middle, and that
is number 21 this time, Smith Kirk, and another nice
run for State College and another first down, I believe, Marty.
Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
Yeah, it is, and Art, they were able to substitute
him in the first half for Walker and give Walker
a blow and they bring a fresh set of legs
in there at the running back spot.
Speaker 2 (01:14:39):
Had an injury there for Bishop McDevitt on that one
I think that was Stewart gets up and is able
to run off under his own power three wide outs
to the near side for State College and Kalka waits
to snap he's got one back in the backfield to
his left And they will run this again up the
(01:15:00):
middle against McDevitt's defense. Inside the 35, down to the 32.
Just too easy right now, Marty.
Speaker 3 (01:15:06):
8-yard gain on Art Walker. Well, there was 2 or
3 moves on that 12-yard gain. 2 or 3 cuts.
Speaker 2 (01:15:18):
First and 10, it's McDevitt 33. Kalka's going to keep
it himself, and now... What happened there? Kulk is still running.
I didn't hear any whistle. It's like everyone stopped playing
there for a second. That was just a weird looking play.
Speaker 3 (01:15:38):
Yeah, like you, I thought the play was over.
Speaker 2 (01:15:39):
You saw Connor Kulk start running to the right side
and no one was really tackling him. I mean, it
looked like everyone thought a whistle blew or something. Everybody
like McDevitt's defense stopped playing. And then they were like, oh,
(01:16:00):
I guess not. Now a player down for Bishop McDevitt
over there. Let's take a timeout here. 8.37 left to
play in the third. McDevitt down 14-13. You're listening to
Bishop McDevitt football here on Fox Sports 1460 and iHeartRadio.

The greatest show in the bird. This is Bishop McDevitt
Football on Fox Sports 1460.
Speaker 2 (01:17:00):
All right, welcome back to Rockport 10-0 Stadium here at
Bishop McDevitt High School. Crusaders trailing 14-13, and it's a
frustrating game for McDevitt. I mean, touchdown-wise, you're even. You
missed an extra point. And you're having all sorts of
trouble getting off the field defensively against this state college offense.
Little Lions have it. They will say second and six
(01:17:23):
at the 29-yard line to McDevitt. Eight and a half
minutes left to play in the third quarter. Three wideouts
to the near side, one to the far. And Talco
will hand this one off. And McDevitt defends it well
this time as Ron Walker spun backwards, lost a yard
or two. And McDevitt's defense rose up there, Marty.
Speaker 3 (01:17:42):
Yeah, indeed they did. They got a big stop on Walker.
Speaker 2 (01:17:46):
And now penalty flag comes flying in way late.
Speaker 3 (01:17:56):
If this is against McDevitt, you can just not let
it happen.
Speaker 2 (01:17:58):
This would be a huge, monstrous penalty against McDevitt if
that's what it is. You just get a big defensive stop.
to make it third down and seven. And it is
(01:18:24):
against Bishop McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (01:18:27):
Well, Art, they drove Walker back and like happens sometimes
during the, you know, you haven't tackled a guy and
you're pushing him back, the whistle blows. And it seemed
to be peaceful enough, but Towards the very end, there
was chirping going on. And one of the McDevitt guys either...
(01:18:49):
chirped first or chirped back but whatever it was he's
the one that gets the 15 yard penalty unsportsmanlike so
very difficult task for this defense now to make a stop.
Speaker 2 (01:19:03):
Yeah like he's definitely a chirping penalty wasn't anything physical
And that certainly will hurt McDevitt. Makes it first and
10 at the 16-yard line. And they will run this
one up the middle again. And McDevitt this time just
get in there and they stop Walker immediately. You see
(01:19:23):
some adjustment there is McDevitt's defense. Slowing Walker down a
little bit here now.
Speaker 3 (01:19:29):
That was, again, a huge first down play for the
Crusader defense to rise up.
Speaker 2 (01:19:36):
So a loss of one, it'll be second and 11
back at the 17. State College again eating up a
lot of clock here on this opening drive and a
third imperative for McDevitt's defense to hold him no field goal.
One wide out to the far side to bring a
man in motion, that's Firmanek. Now Kalka looks over to
the sideline, now he'll go back in and play clocks
(01:19:58):
down to five. And Polka fakes the handoff, fires over
the middle, and it's batted down. A nice defensive play
for Bishop McDevitt in the back of the end zone
down there. I think that was a chance on the tip, Marty.
Speaker 3 (01:20:15):
Yeah, it was. DeVar Chance gets a big hand in
there on that skinny post pattern and knocks that down.
Chance almost with a chance to pull it in and
pick it off, yeah. Big third down play here for
the Crusader D.
Speaker 2 (01:20:33):
It's a huge third down play.
Speaker 3 (01:20:35):
Somebody on the front line or a backer needs to
make a play on the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:20:40):
Kalka will fire this one to the outside, and a
diving catch, I believe, is made inside the five.
Speaker 3 (01:20:50):
That one.
Speaker 2 (01:20:54):
And.
Sherman on the tackle over there, and that was... Yeah, Kevin.
Speaker 3 (01:21:02):
Keene Furmanak for State College makes a really good catch.
And that was the play that the defense had to have, Art.
And unfortunately they couldn't get it.
Speaker 2 (01:21:15):
That makes it first down and goal with the four.
And a McDevitt player down over on the far sideline.
Looking like maybe a cramping issue here. So yeah, McDevitt
got the opportunity it needed. And just, again, Kalka makes
a play. Fish and McDevitt Football is brought to you

and goal at the four yard line of Fisher McDevitt.
7.05 left to play in the third quarter. State College
up 14-13. Two wideouts on the near side for State
College and they will run Walker up the middle trying
to push forward and don't see a signal yet from
the officials. I think they'll mark him short.
Speaker 3 (01:22:26):
Walker got hit almost immediately and there were two if
maybe not even more Nick Devitt jerseys there and he
just kept driving to the one yard line and all but.
Speaker 2 (01:22:38):
Got in and this time Kalka pushes forward into the
end zone Kalka with the touchdown and State College goes
up 20-13 with 6.26 left to play in the third quarter.
Speaker 3 (01:22:54):
And the crucial thing there Art is now Nick Devitt
needs to score twice So, and figure out how to,
you know, stop the Little Lions from State College. They
have not been able to do that.
Speaker 2 (01:23:09):
Well, you need to touch down in that two-point conversion
would tie the game up.
Speaker 3 (01:23:14):
Okay, it would. You're right.
Speaker 2 (01:23:17):
Markowski on to attempt the extra point. McDevitt down 20
to 13, and the extra point is up, and it's blocked. So,
Bishop McDevitt. Finally makes up that extra point, at least
I guess you can look at it that way. 6.26
left to play third quarter. We'll take a break. McDevitt
down now 20-13. You're listening to Bishop McDevitt Football here

Speaker 1 (01:24:17):
Stronger together.
Speaker 7 (01:24:18):
Unstoppable as one.
Speaker 1 (01:24:21):
This is Bishop McDevitt Football on Fox Sports 1460.
Speaker 2 (01:24:27):
Connor Kalka with a one-yard touchdown run puts State College
up 20-13. Bishop McDevitt blocks the extra point. That was
Devorah Chance, I believe, blocked at Marty. So McDevitt within
a touchdown and an extra point now. And the offense
will get the ball back as State College will kick
off towards the Derry Street end of the field here.
(01:24:50):
Markowski's kick. This time he kicks it deeper down the field.
McDevitt fields it at the 15. They come back up
to the 20. To the outside, it's Caden Walker. Turns
the corner, still in bounds. And finally... shoved out of
bounds over here around the 32-yard line. Motion's starting to
(01:25:14):
rev up a bit here. 6-16 left to play in
the third. McDevitt down now 20-13, so they do give
up the touchdown, but get a break as the extra
point was blocked.
Speaker 3 (01:25:27):
Yeah, that's one of those ones, Art, that any time
there's a tackle along the sideline, there's always that Did
they hit too late and so on and so forth,
you know.
Speaker 2 (01:25:37):
So see what McDevitt's offense can do to their second
possession of the third quarter. They did go three and
out on the opening drive to start the third quarter.
One wide out to each side. Sebastian Williams awaits the snap.
And McDevitt will run the ball up the middle this
time to Caden Walker. Gets up to about the 37-yard line.
(01:26:00):
Got five or so. It'll be second and five for
Bishop McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (01:26:05):
I'd be patient enough to take five on every first down.
You know, I really would. So got another player, this
time a little lion down.
Speaker 2 (01:26:15):
Some of the heat and cramping starting to come into
play here. 602 left to play in the third. McDevitt
down 20. The 13 is a little 10 to the
state college player. Grace Mitchell.
Speaker 1 (01:26:28):
Sorry.
Speaker 3 (01:26:30):
You know, if you need to hydrate when you're cramping, Art,
maybe you should take your six drinks down, you know,
split them up into two benches and give these guys
something to drink.
Speaker 2 (01:26:42):
I can learn them a few. Starting to drink up
some of them here myself, slowly but surely. 6.02 left
to play in the third. It's been quite a night
here at Rockerton Stadium so far. They still tend to
(01:27:03):
the State College wide out here. No one plans to
get sick or hurt. It just happens. And when it does,
Select Medical is here to help you heal, restore function,

(01:27:25):

be second and five for Bishop McDevitt from their N37.
As we said, they're driving towards the Derry Street end
of the field. Another player was down for State College
(01:27:45):
as well. So they do help that player up. That
was number 56, Anthony Sheffy. So McDevitt will have a
second down and five when they come back here. See
if Coach Wechter tries to come up with a big
(01:28:08):
play out of the timeout here. McDevitt scored before the
half on a 52-yard touchdown pass. From Sebastian to Caden Walker.
It was a short pass and Caden Walker did a
lot of the work on that. One wide out to
each side of the field from McDevitt. Second down and five.
(01:28:30):
Sebastian back to pass. Fires one over to the side.
It's caught by Holton Jr. Puts a move on the
defender and takes it into State College territory. down to
the 49-yard line. First down, Bishop McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (01:28:43):
24-yard gain, and I would say that about 20 of
that was by Howard Holton.
Speaker 2 (01:28:50):
The footwork of Howard Holton Jr. is unbelievable. A lot
of fun watching him make things happen after he catches it.
John Tate quick out on the near side this time
for Bishop McDevitt as it's first and ten from the 49.
Crusaders will run this to Walker. He's got the outside.
He's got a first down and more. Hayden Walker down
(01:29:10):
to the 37-yard line of State College. First down, Bishop McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (01:29:15):
Walker's shone off his stuff there, Art.
Speaker 2 (01:29:20):
Crusaders on the move. 5.40 left to play in the third.
McDevitt trails 20-13. Zayden Smith lined up as a tight
end over on the far side. One wide receiver on
each side. Ohanis went up to Walker again and he
(01:29:42):
rubbles inside the 30 down to the 29 yard line.
Gained an 8. Boy did he hit that hole fast Marty.
Speaker 3 (01:29:49):
I think it's appropriate to say that he just burst
in and out of that hole And picks up the
market at seven. So second down and three for the Crusaders.
Speaker 2 (01:30:02):
Crusaders break Cuddle. Holton Jr. out on the far side.
John Tate quick on the near side. One back in
the backfield again. That's still Walker. And now a penalty
flag comes flying in as they hand this off to Walker.
And it's a false start against Bishop McDevitt. just cannot
(01:30:25):
afford that to happen at this point you're trying to
drive down the field here and tie this up.
Speaker 3 (01:30:30):
After the big first down play and you're coming at
it with second and two and now back to second
and seven here.
Speaker 2 (01:30:44):
Balls at the 35 yard line second and eight for
McDevitt we'll call it eight yeah one wide out to
each side of the field Sebastian Williams waits a snap
Plenty of time. Fires one to the outside. It's complete
for Bishop McDevitt. And we'll see where they spot it.
It's going to be short of the first down. They'll
(01:31:06):
spot it at about the 30, maybe the 29-yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:31:11):
Satan Smith, Art, with a big catch over there. Quite honestly,
I think he had the first down. And he tried
to spin and make that move and really went backwards.
Speaker 2 (01:31:20):
So it's third and three for McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (01:31:24):
Safe to say it's four down territory, Art.
Speaker 2 (01:31:26):
I would agree. One wide out to each side of
the field, one back in the backfield. That's Caden Walker.
They give it to Walker. He's got the first down.
Down to the 23-yard line where he spun down, and boy,
he hits that hole really fast.
Speaker 3 (01:31:39):
He does, and certainly here in this third quarter, Walker
is making his presence felt.
Speaker 2 (01:31:47):
4.06 left to play in the third, and Now Walker
will check out for Bishop McDevitt. 4-0-5, left to play
in the third. Another State College player limps to the
far sideline over there. I think that was Mustafa for
(01:32:10):
State College. Sebastian has the play, brings it back to
the huddle. First and 10, McDevitt at the 24. Jontae
Quick out on the near side. Zayden Smith lines up
as a tight end over in the far side. Colton Jr.,
the wideout. They will run this one up the middle
to Black, I believe, and the ball came out, and
(01:32:36):
the whistle did blow, I believe, and there's a penalty
flag down as well.
Speaker 3 (01:32:39):
Yeah, they blew it dead early, but if you're State College,
the ball's there. You're going to pick it up and
head down, you know, in case they don't blow the whistle.
Speaker 2 (01:32:54):
That would have been a back-breaking play for McDevitt there
if they obviously get that one.
Speaker 1 (01:33:03):
So, I.
Speaker 2 (01:33:06):
Think it'll be holding McDevitt, but we're officials talking with
the coach over there for State College on the far side.
Crusaders with 3.43 left to work with here in the
third quarter. It's around 20-13 Possession is so valuable in
(01:33:26):
a game like this where State College really eats up
a lot of the clock.
Speaker 3 (01:33:31):
And that penalty certainly is going to hurt.
Speaker 2 (01:33:38):
Still haven't made the call.
Speaker 3 (01:33:45):
Well, three officials are on the far side in front
of the State College pens, and they're discussing this.
Speaker 2 (01:33:55):
I've not seen any penalty. I don't know if he's
talking about the fumble. Now the official will come out here.
I guess they're arguing the fumble call, maybe. 3.43 left
(01:34:16):
to play. After all that, they finally do come out
and call the hold against McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (01:34:24):
So now a big second and 20.
Speaker 2 (01:34:28):
Had time to drive back to State College before the
official made that call. Fog is back to the 34-yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:34:36):
If I'm McDevitt here, I am on this second, well,
first and 20. I think I'm going for the end zone.
Speaker 2 (01:34:43):
Three wideouts to the near side. Sebastian back to pass.
Has time. Comes to the right. Looks downfield. Sebastian's got
to run it. He's got to 30. And take some contact.
They slam him down out of bounds over here around
the 29. So it'll be second and 15 for Bishop McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (01:35:02):
I'm sure Coach Wechter is saying, Sebastian, what are you
doing there? He actually initiated the contact right at the sideline.
Cut five out of it.
Speaker 2 (01:35:16):
Crusaders come back onto the field here. They break huddle.
John take quick. And Zayden Smith out on the far
side is wide out. Colton Jr. on the near side.
Walker in the backfield with Sebastian. And they will run
this to Walker. Walker takes it inside the 25 down
to the 22. Make it a little bit more manageable
(01:35:39):
here for Bishop McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (01:35:42):
So 3rd and 10 for McDevitt.
Speaker 2 (01:35:49):
So... Falls at the 24-yard line. I think this would
be a situation where they're going for it on trying
to tie this thing up. Zayden Smith among John Tate
Quick and Thatcher Hansley on the far side. Holton Jr.
on the near side.
Speaker 3 (01:36:11):
I'm thinking of throwing it in the end zone and
let Zayden Smith see if he can out-jump or pull
it down.
Speaker 2 (01:36:15):
Sebastian back to pass. Here comes the pressure. Dumps one
to the outside.
Speaker 3 (01:36:19):
Holton Jr.
Speaker 2 (01:36:20):
Has it. Tries to make a spectacular move, but they
don't let him get free. So he'll get about two,
and McDevitt will have a fourth down and eight. They
brought the house there. Marty and Sebastian had to get
rid of it.
Speaker 3 (01:36:34):
Yeah, they did, and he did. He had to get
rid of it. Holton got everything that he could, but
just couldn't avoid that last tackle and turn it into
a first down or even more.
Speaker 2 (01:36:45):
Just turning it into one of those choppy games here now.
Seems like an injury every play. It's either an injury
or a timeout. 4th and 9 from the 23, so
the Crusaders having plenty of time to talk this thing over.
221 left to play in the 3rd. Debit down 20
to 13. If your business or non-profit could use a boost,

(01:37:40):
And they continue to work on the State College player
over on the far side over there. McDevitt will walk
back to the near side here.
Speaker 3 (01:37:52):
Did we mention that Xavier McFarlane is basically out of, well,
he's got his jersey on, that's it, he's in shorts
and no pads, so he got an injury somewhere in
that first half.
Speaker 2 (01:38:07):
State College comes back onto the field here. 4th and
9 from the 23, 221 left to play. In the
third quarter, McDevitt down 20-13. Obviously a huge play here
for McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (01:38:21):
They didn't back Black in the backfield. I would almost
look for, you know, to throw something across the middle
short yeah and try to pick up the.
Speaker 2 (01:38:30):
Yards sebastian is back to pass here comes the pressure
fires one to the outside and this one is incomplete
broken up on the near side out here for state
college they tried to uh get it to their tight
end over here in the near side And they tried
to get that one to Zayden Smith, but broken up
(01:38:51):
and incomplete. And Stake Hodge takes over now with a
first down and 10 at the 23-yard line. Again, penalties
just killing McDevitt. Holding call there, backed him up on
the drive before the touchdown. They had a personal foul there,
which really hurt. Just missed extra point tonight. Just some
(01:39:15):
mistakes you just cannot make in these games. So it's
20-13 State College. 2-0-2 left to play in the third.
McDevitt's defense needs to rise up here now. State College
with the ball. Two wide outs to the near side.
They hand this one off to Walker, and he's tripped
up immediately. Still picks up about two yards. It'll be
(01:39:36):
second down and eight.
Speaker 3 (01:39:39):
I'm sure they're going to spot it for three. It
might make it a little easier for State College on
this play. It's a second and seven now.
Speaker 2 (01:39:49):
Minute 42 left to play in the third. McDevitt down 20-13.
Little Lions have it. Two wide outs to the near side.
See if McDevitt can shut them down here. Kalk back
to pass. Dumps one to the outside out here. And
(01:40:09):
eluding the one McDevitt tackler is number two, Furmanick. And
he's able to get up here to the 36-yard line
in the first down.
Speaker 3 (01:40:17):
Part of the mistake that you can't make in the
secondary is to not make the receiver commit first. So
they went right at him. Receiver able to just step
outside of that. Pick up the first down.
Speaker 2 (01:40:34):
Minute 19 left to play in the third. 20 to
13 McDevitt trails. Two wide outs to the far side.
One to the near. And they will run this Up
the middle again, and this is number 21 again. That's
(01:40:58):
Smith Kirk. Gets about three. It'll be second and seven.
Speaker 3 (01:41:02):
He's had some very important, just a couple, but some
important carries for State College.
Speaker 2 (01:41:09):
Falls at the 39-yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:41:12):
Not only does he give Walker some rest, but he
picks up valuable yardage.
Speaker 2 (01:41:20):
So second and seven for State College. Looks like they
have two wideouts on the far side. Kalka waits a snap,
and Kalka is going to keep it himself, takes it
up the middle, and somehow spins all the way up
to the 49-yard line for a first down.
Speaker 3 (01:41:42):
But it really looks like, again, to me, Art, I
talked about it at the end of the first half,
or we talked about it at halftime, but... McDevitt defense
is very tired.
Speaker 2 (01:41:54):
Yeah, I mean, Kalka had some problem with the snap there, honestly,
and it looked like it might be a positive play
from the McDevitt defense, and he just turns on the speed,
and it's kind of like an out-of-control train up the
middle of the field to get 10 yards. So that
ends the third quarter of play here at Rockford-San Diego Stadium.
Bishop McDevitt trailing 20-13 to State College. We'll take a break.

2022 and 2024 state champs play right here on Fox
Sports 1460.
Speaker 2 (01:43:36):
All right, welcome back to Rockport 10-0 Stadium here at
Bishop McDevitt High School. Now or never for the Crusaders
as they trail by seven. Heading into the fourth quarter,
a positive play from the McDevitt defense. They try that
little screen pass to the outside. McDevitt was ready for
it this time. And they tackle him for a loss
of a yard or two. It'll be second down and
11 for State College.
Speaker 3 (01:44:01):
Zayden Smith comes from that defensive end spot and did
force Kalko to throw it early. One of the few
times they've created rushes, but he's not like he's been rushed.
And this time he had to hurry. So no big
gain on that one.
Speaker 2 (01:44:18):
State College will run it again, and this time McDevitt
defends it well. as Rowan Walker goes nowhere, and now
we have an opportunity for McDevitt. It's third and 11
for State College at the 47-yard line. 11.05 left to play.
(01:44:41):
Fourth quarter, McDevitt down 20-13. This is your shot right
here to get off the field. Get that offense back
on the field if a chance to tie it up.
Speaker 3 (01:44:51):
Right now, I'm counting 12 guys out there from Devin. Nope,
I'm good. It's 11.
Speaker 2 (01:44:59):
Here comes State College. And just taking every second off
that play clock that they can. 22 seconds left still
for that thing to take down. Devin threatens the blitz.
Kalka waits to snap. Back to pass. Here comes the pressure.
Kalka fires one to the outside. And this is complete
(01:45:24):
vendemia down the field to the 36-yard line. And you
can't throw the ball any better there, Mark.
Speaker 3 (01:45:31):
You cannot. So precise. So on the money. Good coverage
there with DeVar Chance. But he couldn't get around the receiver.
Kalko throws it right into his gut. And he's able
to get it and get the first down.
Speaker 2 (01:45:46):
First down and 10 at the 36-yard line at McDevitt.
10-20 left to play in this game. McDevitt down 20-13.
Kalka has just played an amazing game here tonight for
State College. Now Kalka keeps it himself and just kind
of unloads it. He's going to be tackled to the ground.
(01:46:10):
So it'll go down as an incomplete pass, I guess.
Speaker 3 (01:46:12):
Yeah, he was fortunate enough to get it off. Very fortunate.
That's when he's played so flawlessly. That's one where you
just eat the sack and, you know, get to live
another day. But fortunately for State College, it fell harmlessly.
Speaker 2 (01:46:29):
So McDevitt's defense. Needing a big play here. Two wide
outs to the far side. Frye on the near side.
Kalka waits to snap. Frye goes in motion. Kalka rolls out,
fires one to the outside. He's got Frye. And Fry
kind of stumbles on his own and sits a 30
(01:46:51):
down to the 28-yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:46:58):
Looks like it's going to be third and three, Art.
And once again, they were able to get that pass
over the middle of shallow and really no coverage from
McDevitt there at all.
Speaker 2 (01:47:10):
Ball's at the 29 on the field. That's where they
have it spotted. And again, they Lead that play clock
down as much as they can. Play clock is down
to eight. Game clock, nine and a half left. Kalka
(01:47:30):
fires one quickly to the outside. This is complete. And
ball came free over on the far sideline over there.
And I think State College recovered it, but If it
was a fumble, they might have lost a little bit
of yardage on it. And it is... We'll see if
(01:47:51):
it's fourth down here. Now the chain continues to make
its way back up the field here. So it's fourth
down and about one.
Speaker 3 (01:48:09):
They have an opportunity here to.
If the fumble really happened, then the ball would have
been back farther, but.
We don't know if it really happened.
Speaker 2 (01:48:18):
Play clock again. down to five. Falco waits to snap.
Play clock's at two. Play clock hits zero, and they
give him the timeout. We have 8.33 left to play
in this game. Let's take a break. You're listening to
Bishop McDevitt Football here on Fox Sports. 1460 and iHeartRadio.

Speaker 3 (01:49:20):
Art, I really look for a state college here, just
to the quarterback sneak. I mean, they've been successful with that.
They've been getting three or four yards on it, so.
Speaker 2 (01:49:29):
Let's see if McDevitt can adjust here. It's 4-1 at
the 27-yard line. 8.33 left to play. Kauka, though, backed
off the line of scrimmage here, so we'll see what
they do come up with here. Kauka waits to snap,
(01:49:52):
and McDevitt's defense gets a stop, and now a penalty
flag comes flying in. Did they get McDevitt to jump?
Speaker 3 (01:50:00):
The way the State College bench is reacting, you would
think that that's what happened.
Speaker 2 (01:50:05):
Offside, Bishop McDevitt. So that's how they get the first
down and another costly penalty. Coach Wachter talked about the
(01:50:28):
team getting sloppy last week, Marty. He wasn't happy with it.
Just some crushing penalties on McDevitt here tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:50:36):
Sometimes not even the big ones, not even the 15-yarders,
but like that, the five-yard penalty.
Speaker 2 (01:50:42):
On a fourth and one.
Speaker 3 (01:50:43):
Unforced.
Speaker 2 (01:50:44):
Just can't have it. State College will run it on
the far side over there, and McDevitt does shove him
out of bounds over there. He laid in black on
the tackle. Just a short gain for State College there.
Second and nine. 8.27 left to play. I mean, if
(01:51:05):
you're McDevitt, you've got to try and force a long
field goal here. And try and get the ball back.
Markowski's leg certainly a factor in this ball game at
this point of 8.27 left to play. Three wide outs
to the near side. Kalka waits to snap. And here's
(01:51:32):
another handoff to Walker. And Walker with a great run
up the middle. Inside the 10. Down to the 9-yard line.
It'll be first down in Gold State College.
Speaker 3 (01:51:42):
Walker can really run two ways. He can run with power.
He also can be very elusive. You know, and just
run with speed. So we've seen that here tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:51:52):
And another player down. Injured this time for McDevitt over
on the far side. And he will get up and
jog over here on the near side for the Crusaders.
That was Austin Mack, I believe, for Bishop McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (01:52:15):
Team trader Rochelle Blakely is getting a lot of work tonight,
as is the trader on the other side.
Speaker 2 (01:52:27):
Balls at the 9. State College with two wideouts on
the near side, one to the far. First and goal
from the nine. McDevitt still has a chance to force
a field goal here, but the defense has really got
to come up with something here. McDevitt with three timeouts left,
(01:52:48):
and State College again will bleed that clock down. Frustrating
team to play from behind against as they milk every
second out of that clock, and And they're effective running.
Walker pushes his way up forward inside the five down
to the two.
Speaker 3 (01:53:09):
Makes a spin to get open and then just hits
the would-be tackler and drives him back a couple yards.
Speaker 2 (01:53:20):
Three wide outs to the near side. Kalka under center.
Walker in the backfield. And McDevitt needs some Crusader magic
in a hurry here. 7-14 left to play. And Walker
(01:53:42):
kind of dives forward. And I think they're going to
say he is down just inside the 1. So it.
Speaker 3 (01:53:50):
Will be 3rd and goal from the 1.
Speaker 1 (01:53:54):
State College.
Speaker 2 (01:54:05):
Again, ticking every second off that play clock.
Speaker 3 (01:54:08):
Are you seeing the keeper art?
Speaker 2 (01:54:11):
Yeah, I mean, it's worked for them tonight. You'd think
they would do it.
Speaker 3 (01:54:14):
Yeah, now he's going under center.
Speaker 2 (01:54:16):
Kalka under center, and Kalka pushes forward. No signal yet here,
and now they do signal a touchdown for Kalka. One-yard run,
and St. Cod is up 26-13 with 6.27 left to
play in this game. Connor Poco with another one-yard touchdown run.
(01:54:48):
Just the second of the half. And that makes it
26-13 State College with 6.27 left to play. McDevitt has
not scored here in the second half, Marty, and they're
going to be asked to put up two touchdowns in
the last 6.27. Now the official will come over here
(01:55:11):
and talk with Coach Wector. So State College, they signal
the touchdown. Now the unsportsmanlike conduct against State College. The
(01:55:37):
touchdown does stand.
Speaker 5 (01:55:38):
After the play of unsportsmanlike conduct against State College.
Speaker 2 (01:55:42):
So Markowski will come on to attempt the extra point
for State College here. And it's a loose snap. The
kick is up, and it is good. So 627 left
to play in this one now. McDevitt in big trouble
here on 27-13. We'll take a break. You're listening to
(01:56:02):
Bishop McDevitt Football here on Fox Sports 1460 and iHeartRadio.

Harrisburg's elite high school football program. This is Bishop McDevitt
football on Fox Sports 1460.
Speaker 2 (01:56:46):
All right, welcome back to the Rockford 10-2 stadium here
at Bishop McDevitt High School. It's Elby, Marty Bowman, Eli
back in the studios. Bishop McDevitt with some work to do.
Trailing 27-13, 6-27, left to play. They have all three
of their timeouts left. Need a quick score, defensive stop, and...
(01:57:08):
Get yourself in a position to possibly get it back
and go down and tie this thing up. Markowski will
kick off towards the Union deposit end of the field.
This one's a high kick. This one will go back
and sail out of bounds over in the far sideline
over there as Jaunte Quick is over there in the
vicinity of that one. The Crusaders will have good field
(01:57:30):
position here, Marty.
Speaker 3 (01:57:35):
Yes, yes they will and they need that. They need
every little break they can get right now. I mean,
you score here, Art, but if they do, the defense
still has to prove that they can get off the
field and keep State College from just piling up yardage
on what could very well be the last possession.
Speaker 2 (01:57:56):
So they're going to make them re-kick here, apparently. 6.27
left to play. Just don't know. I mean, you get
some momentum back here with three timeouts left. But, I mean,
(01:58:17):
they obviously got to score here for it to matter.
And McDevitt shut out to this point in the second half.
And you already felt good. McDevitt had the momentum going
into the locker room after the blocked field goal. Got
the ball to start the third quarter and just were
unable to do anything with it, which is very rare.
And usually in situations like that, McDevitt's able to go
(01:58:39):
down and score and it just does not happen tonight.
So Markowski will kick off from his own 20. She
mentioned about a kickoff return for a touchdown. That would
be really nice right now for McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (01:59:00):
I would like to see at least 40-plus, or even
closer to the 50. This one is returned.
Speaker 2 (01:59:10):
Markowski lines up, kicks it towards the Union deposit end
of the field. And here we go. It's a deep kick.
This one will be caught at the 30-yard line, back
to the 35, to the 40, coming to the outside.
That's number 25 Walker. It's down to the 43 and
(01:59:30):
penalty flags come flying in all over the place. And
that was what you could not have.
Speaker 3 (01:59:36):
No. You could not.
Speaker 2 (01:59:46):
It appears to be holding on Bishop McDevitt. Penalties just
continue to kill Bishop McDevitt here tonight. Holding McDevitt. So
(02:00:08):
they will spot this one on the 40, so McDevitt
needs 60 yards to make things interesting here. Zaden Smith
out on the far side with John Tate Quick. Holton Jr.
on the near side. Caden Walker, I believe, is in
the backfield. Sebastian Williams back to pass. Here comes the pressure.
(02:00:30):
Sebastian rolls to the right, fires to the outside. He's
got his man out there. That's number three. That's Hansley.
And they get it up to the 47-yard line. Crusaders
got to hurry here.
Speaker 3 (02:00:42):
Pick up a seven.
Speaker 2 (02:00:44):
Clock is ticking. Under six minutes left. Got to get
rolling here. Three wideouts to the near side for Bishop McDevitt.
Hansley out on the far side. Sebastian Williams dumps one quickly.
And this one over here to the near side to
Holton Jr. And it's one of those plays we talked
(02:01:06):
about earlier in the game where it looked backwards. And
it's third and three for Bishop McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (02:01:16):
Yeah, I'm not really sure I like that art for
several reasons. One, it's very close to being a backward pass.
The other one is... is when you're throwing it that
far out, it's giving the defense an opportunity to come
up and pick up the receiver almost when he catches
the ball.
Speaker 2 (02:01:30):
And if you do that, you have to make sure
the receiver catches it. Yeah. Crusaders will run this one
up the middle, and here's a big run from Walker.
He's got the 30. He's got the 25. And inside
the 20, down to the 18-yard line. And Bishop McDevitt
with some life.
Speaker 3 (02:01:51):
Crusaders.
Speaker 2 (02:01:51):
5.33 left to play. First down and 10 at the
15-yard line. 5.5 left to play. Three wideouts to the
far side. One to the near for Bishop McDevitt. Sebastian
Williams awaits the snap. And I think McDevitt jumped. And
(02:02:17):
it is a false start against Bishop McDevitt. Ball goes
back to the 20-yard line. It's first and 15, Bishop McDevitt.
Still time left here for McDevitt. They need a score
(02:02:38):
here pretty quick. Try and get the ball back. Three
wide outs to the far side, one to the near.
Walker to the right of Sebastian Williams. Sebastian back to pass.
Has time. Steps up. Fires one to the outside. He's
got his man inside the 10. Inside the 5. And
Harold Houghton Jr. has a touchdown for Bishop McDevitt. And
(02:02:59):
with 4.57 left to play, Bishop McDevitt back in. It
is 27-19.
Speaker 3 (02:03:03):
Sebastian Williams did a great job standing tall there, Art,
in the pocket, waiting for his receiver. To come across
and clear everybody. And then he just put it right
on the money. It was a foot race to the flag.
(02:03:23):
And McDevitt gets in.
Speaker 2 (02:03:25):
Linda Anno attempts the extra point. And the kick is up.
And that one is good. So that makes it 27-20 now.
With 4.57 left to play in this game. Take another
time out. You're listening to Bishop McDevitt Football here on

Speaker 1 (02:04:29):
The 2022 and 2024 state champs play right here on
Fox Sports 1460.
Speaker 7 (02:04:34):
Cade Walker with the long run puts McDevitt in the
red zone, and then Sebastian Williams able to hit Holton Jr.
Speaker 2 (02:04:44):
From about 20 yards away. to make it 27-20. 4.57
left to play. McDevitt will kick off towards the Derry
Street end of the field. Lulinda will kick off. So
McDevitt with a shot here. Two or three maybe opportunities
(02:05:08):
to stop them here before they would run the clock out.
Here's Lulinda's kick. It's a line drive kick down the
middle of the field. State College picks it up. And
they will run this one back up the field up
to the 38. Ball's on the ground. And we'll see
if they say it was down or not. Haven't seen
the signal. I think McDevitt might have the ball. Waiting
(02:05:34):
for a signal from the officials. And McDevitt recovered it.
It's a matter of was it down or not.
Speaker 3 (02:05:47):
Looked like Black or Walton came up with the football.
Like you, Art, I thought the play was over. So
State College did have it.
Speaker 2 (02:06:06):
State College had it, but I mean the communication from
the officiating right up there with the officiating in Michigan
last Saturday. And at least signal they have the ball.
Speaker 6 (02:06:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:06:17):
And they're walking over here to Coach Wechter. They're looking
like they're out for a night stroll. Coach Wechter. Okay,
so first and 10 to 38. And they will run
the ball up the middle here to the 43-yard line.
They get five. It'll be second down and five. Too
(02:06:38):
many yards on first down there if you're McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (02:06:41):
Yeah, it's happened far too often tonight, Art.
Speaker 2 (02:06:45):
Crusaders will not use a timeout just yet.
Speaker 3 (02:06:48):
And I said earlier, Art, this could be one of
these things where State College just runs out the clock
without scoring.
Speaker 2 (02:06:58):
Second and five. Crusaders got to make a play here.
Two wideouts to the near side for State College. Kalka
in the shotgun formation. And they will give it to Walker.
And Walker pushes forward. I think he's going to have
the first down.
Speaker 3 (02:07:17):
Yeah, he does. He's just so good after contact art
and those scrums of just pushing the defenders, keeping his
legs driving, and picking up yet another first down.
Speaker 2 (02:07:33):
So 3.55 left to play, and McDevitt absolutely cannot give
up like five yards on the first play here. You've
got to get in the backfield and slow him down here.
You know what's coming. I don't think they're going to
do any surprises here. This is going to be Walker
running the ball. And if you're McDevitt, you've got to
(02:07:55):
stop it. They give it to Walker, and Bishop McDevitt
is taken down in the backfield, just as we talked about.
Now we'll see if McDevitt thinks about taking a timeout.
And it does not appear they, well, okay, I guess
they're not going to take it here. So McDevitt gets
the opportunity there. After State College, do you continue to
(02:08:17):
try and ride Walker here and play conservatively, or do
they try and fire pass down the field because caulk
has had a great game throwing the ball.
Speaker 3 (02:08:25):
They've been successful i you don't normally like to hear
this i throw it over the middle i don't take
a chance to throw it into the flats where it
might get picked and you can find your receiver over
the middle you've done.
Speaker 2 (02:08:36):
It all night second and 12 two wide outs to
the near side to bring a man in motion they
give it to walker and again falls forward for a
couple and now it's third down and 10 And I
think McDevitt will take a timeout now with 2.42 left
to play and obviously the biggest play in the game
coming up right now, Marty.
Speaker 1 (02:08:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:08:57):
Layden Black reports in for McDevitt. And Princeton Kamama comes out.
Speaker 2 (02:09:08):
So 2.42 left to play in this game between Bishop
McDevitt and State College. Crusaders just scored on a 20-yard
touchdown pass from Sebastian Williams to Houghton Jr., They make
it 27-20, 2.42 left to play. Devitt down 27-20. You
would have to think State College is going to try
(02:09:30):
and throw the ball here and pick up a first down.
I know Walker's been good tonight, but you can't expect
to get 10 yards here. Totally fool McDevitt. Kalka's been
so good for State College all night, but see what
McDevitt's defense... comes up with here. So Crusaders, the defense
(02:09:56):
makes it way back onto the field here. 3rd and
10 from the 49 yard line. Devon fans making as
much noise as they can, stomping their feet. Feel the
press box shaking here. 3rd and 10 from the 49
yard line. Three receivers on the far side, Kalka, Walker
(02:10:20):
in the backfield. Somebody jumped in the line there. I'm
going to call it against McDevitt.
Speaker 3 (02:10:32):
Yeah, I saw three gold jerseys go on that one, Art.
So he did what he intended to do, just throw
them offside and make it a lot easier.
Speaker 2 (02:10:46):
Just cannot have that for McDevitt. Two wide outs to
the near side. Third and five from the 44. Still
an opportunity to stop them here. And now.
Speaker 3 (02:11:01):
Now it looks like McDevitt's saying that they moved.
Speaker 2 (02:11:05):
Yeah, I think that evened it up. Well, it started
on State College, so... McDevitt gets the break back. So
third down and 10 back in the 49-yard line. 2.42
(02:11:30):
left to play in this game. Crusaders down 27-20. It's
been a bizarre night here, we'll say, and see if
McDevitt can Get a shot to pull this one out.
Two wide outs to the near side, one to the far.
Kalka in the shotgun formation. Kalka back to pass. Here
(02:11:54):
comes the pressure. Kalka's going to run, and Kalka is
going to have the first down and more. 30, 25, 20,
and all the way down to the 19-yard line. Kalka's
been sensational all night, Marty, and he makes the play again.
Speaker 3 (02:12:12):
He has, but once again, there was... a one-on-one situation
out there. One McDevitt defender, Calker, made him commit and
then just swirled past him.
Speaker 2 (02:12:27):
Yeah, there was one man to have a shot to
tackle him there and Calker just too fast. He flew
right by him. Now we're already down to 2-10 left.
It's first down and 10. McDevitt's still with two timeouts left,
but Cedars in big trouble now. Kalka will give this
(02:12:49):
one to Walker on the left side.
Speaker 3 (02:12:52):
Timeout, McDevitt here.
Speaker 2 (02:12:53):
Not much there, so really no gain. It makes it
second down and 10. McDevitt will use it second timeout.
A minute 55 left. Not liking the math on this
one here, Marty. No. McDevitt next week will travel over
(02:13:14):
to West Shore Stadium and take on Cedar Cliff. Marty
and Rob and J.C. Floyd will have that game for you.
6.30 on Fox Sports 1460. As the Crusaders take a
timeout here. Minute 55 left to play in the game.
Need to strip one here. Something... crazy needs to happen
(02:13:40):
for McDevitt. There's still one timeout left. Coach Wechter over
here having a discussion with the officials. Second and ten.
State College back onto the field here. Whistles blowing all
(02:14:05):
over the place. play clock is down to 14 so
they want the play clock to reset to 25 that
(02:14:25):
hurts Kalka waits to snap there's another handoff to Walker
and Walker spun down at the 17 yard.
Speaker 3 (02:14:35):
Line McDevitt uses its last timeout.
Speaker 2 (02:14:42):
So a minute 51 left to play. Devitt had a timeout,
so they can run it again and run that clock
down to about... I'm going to do the math here
for me tonight, Marty. 25 on the play clock, so
that'll take it down to about a minute.
Speaker 6 (02:15:00):
16 or so.
Speaker 2 (02:15:00):
A minute 30. Minute 26, actually.
Speaker 3 (02:15:05):
Well, they'll run the play.
Speaker 2 (02:15:08):
Yeah, and then whatever.
Speaker 3 (02:15:09):
Yeah, if they don't get the first down, then they
can let it run the whole way down. Yeah, kick
the field goal. Or if they feel good about it,
just try to go for it and give the ball
up there if you need to. But if you're confident
in your field goal kicker, you kick it, and that
sows up the game pretty much.
Speaker 2 (02:15:29):
David has blocked the field goal tonight, so still the
hope of that, but If they don't score, McDevitt's going
to have to drive like 80 yards or so in
a minute.
Speaker 3 (02:15:42):
They blocked an extra point tonight also. Yes.
Speaker 4 (02:15:45):
Yeah, so.
Speaker 2 (02:15:50):
All right, here we go. A minute 51 left to play.
McDevitt down 27-20, third and seven from the 17-yard line
for State College. Kalka in the backfield. Roof Walker. Kalka's
going to roll out. Kalka running for his life. And
Kalka will be tackled down. And penalty flags come flying down.
Speaker 3 (02:16:15):
They're getting a face mask.
Speaker 2 (02:16:18):
A face mask against Bishop McDevitt, I'm afraid, is what's
going to be called. And that will end the game.
Speaker 3 (02:16:24):
That's the first time that they, unless they got a
hold from one of the linemen as he was trying
to escape, the first time they have him.
Speaker 2 (02:16:40):
Officials again. Personal foul. Face mask. Bishop McDevitt. And that
will wrap this one up. So that will move the
(02:17:01):
ball down to the really doesn't matter where it moves
it at this point. They will bring this one down
to the seven-yard line. Bishop McDevitt, a minute 44 left
to play, but the Crusaders cannot stop the ball, and
it's just victory formation now for State College. Really disappointing
(02:17:22):
loss here tonight for Bishop McDevitt. Killer penalties all night.
Refs blow the whistle just for good measure one more time.
so now they uh will start the clock minute 30
(02:17:46):
left to play Well, I mean, you've got to give
them credit, Marty. Connor Kalka was great tonight. Did a
heck of a job. And Rowan Walker played a really
nice game for State College. I thought their backup running back,
Smith Kirk, did a nice job. Their offensive line did
(02:18:09):
a nice job. And McDevitt just shot itself in the
foot all night long with killer penalties at the worst
possible time.
Speaker 3 (02:18:16):
Appropriate, Art. I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (02:18:18):
Yeah, just to end the game.
Speaker 3 (02:18:20):
Appropriate that State College ends the game with the offense
on the field. They kind of get to take a
curtain call here.
Speaker 2 (02:18:27):
And it was a game of mistakes for McDevitt tonight.
I mean, State College with an impressive opening drive. They
go down and score on a two-yard run, just a
methodical clock-eating drive. Six minutes, they ate off the clock.
They went up seven-zip. Crusaders would drive down the field,
(02:18:48):
make it 7-6 on a touchdown to Holden, but McDevitt
missed the extra point. Then they drive down the field again.
Firmanek caught the reception from Kalka. It was one of
those plays where Kalka looked like he was going to
be sacked. I think he was going to be sacked
like 10 times in the first half and eluded the sacks.
(02:19:09):
Kermaneck just made a great play to put him up 14-6.
McDevitt's defense finally got a stop.
Speaker 3 (02:19:16):
14-13.
Speaker 2 (02:19:21):
The Saders would get the ball to start the third quarter.
A pass incomplete outside to Houghton Jr. on the outside.
And then State College was able to get the ball.
They would drive down the field on a long, methodical
drive again, a one-yard touchdown run. The extra point was blocked. McDevitt,
another opportunity to come back, couldn't do it. They were
(02:19:44):
stopped on downs, on fourth down, after a holding penalty
really slowed them down. And then another State College drive
to go up 27-13. McDevitt would answer a 20-yard touchdown
pass from Holton. There's a Holton Jr. to make it 27-20,
but Crusaders defense just not able to get the ball back.
(02:20:04):
State College takes a knee, and they will celebrate like
they just won the state championship on the field here.
State College will win this game 27-20 as the clock
ticks out here. We'll take a break. We'll have our
(02:20:26):
postgame show coming up next. State College wins 27-20. You're
listening to Bishop McDevitt Football here on Fox Sports 1460
and IR Radio.
