Speaker 2 (00:25):
Oh yeah, oh yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
By the way, confirmed during the break, Rick Lewis's band
did open for the Doobie Brothers at Red Rocks back
in the day.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
You know what grant really quickly.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Obviously, growing up in Inner City there was you know,
stereotypical things that people would think that I would do,
and one of them was just listening to straight hip
hop all the time, right right, But yeah, Doobie Brothers,
Michael McDonald and those were Hugh Staples and my household.

(00:59):
And thank you for my mother for having some diversity
when it comes to music.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Let's not get back on the mom conversation. I just
cleared myself up. We're not We're not getting emotional.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
We're gonna go back to mom. We gotta take our moms.
They only get one day a year where we proclaim
our love. Well, I will say too, because Mother's.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
Day and the First Time Day and Mount Time's Day.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
Yeah, yeah, but we shout out to moms. Man, if
you're out there listening, Man, you haven't called your mom
in a while, call her todate. If you called it yesterday,
call her again.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
I called my mom the other day and had like
a thirty minute conversation and it was so great just
to catch up.

Speaker 4 (01:33):
You know, when you.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
When you live far away from him. Yes, you gotta
make time.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Did you cry?

Speaker 4 (01:38):
No crying?

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Okay, Okay, that's good.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
Just just a good heartfelt conversation with mom. Even if
you did, Brant, I'd admit it.

Speaker 5 (01:45):
I wouldn't.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
I wouldn't hold it against Yeah, I'm.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Not scared cry. I'm in touch with my emotions. Yes,
Benjamin Olbryce not here tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Very true.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Five six zero. The ka Common Spirit health text line
from the five or sorry for the seven one four
is Dave holding Rick by the fire that happened yesterday. Well,
me and Nick were both off, but Zach Zeger's actually
ended up saving the audio.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
So here's this for you. Out of context. Are you
going to like hold me in a certain position?

Speaker 1 (02:18):
What do you think they were talking about. I bet
you'll never guess what they were talking about.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Uh, maybe Rick was talking about vomiting and he needed
some one to hold his hair.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
They were talking about salsa dancing, and Dave would be
the lead, so he'd have to hold Rick in a
certain way.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Of Course Dave would just kind of say, well, he
would be the lead, right, you know, he would like
Rick can't lead.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
Well, dave'sy alpha in every scenario. He's a uh in
is mine?

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Right?

Speaker 4 (02:45):
It is mine at least? Yes, speaking of the alpha position.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
There so many head coach openings in the NFL right now,
and a lot of Broncos coaching staff getting some interviews.
Of course, everybody knows about Vance Joseph. You've been trying
to get rid of him for months. We also got
Darren Rizzy, We've got Davis Webb getting interviews. Why do
you think this is a good thing that Broncos coaching
staffs members are getting head coach interview opportunities.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Well, it's always a great opportunity.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
For a coach and your coaching staff to get a
little validation. And in this case, we're talking about three
coaches that typically you don't really hear a lot about,
and especially in the case of Davis Webb, you don't
really hear Davis Webb. He's not giving postgame interviews, he's
not giving interviews after practice. Usually that is the head coach,

(03:38):
a couple of players on Thursday, it's the coordinators. But
it just shows you the growth of Davis Webb. But
most importantly here's what it shows. It shows that more
current players I would like to see more current current
players or former players rather get more opportunities because Davis
Webb is showing that he's making the most out of

(03:58):
his opportunity. When you look at the fact that Davis
Webb has somewhat coach and mentored a young bo Knicks,
but also a veteran in Russell Wilson, that that says
a lot. And when if a team is looking for
a guy, whether they looking at Davis web as a
head coach and officser coordinator, you know, the plethora of
knowledge and the interaction you know, spans and the biggest

(04:22):
thing for me, it says about the Broncos organization is
that you're restoring that culture, that standard that I came
to know when I left the Jets and joined you know,
Mr B and Mike Shenahan. And when someone is looking
at Poacher staff and you having constant interviews grant that
says that you're doing something right.

Speaker 4 (04:41):
Means you're doing a damn good job and win a
lot of ballgames.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Yes, even if even if it's a division rival, and
the Raiders who interviewed Davis.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Webb and they're going to interview Vance Joseph as well,
And yeah, I think the same thing about Davis Web, Like,
how cool as a former player to now get to
lead an NFL team one day hopefully And even if
he is getting interviewed as the offensive coordinator. Maybe if
a team likes Vance Joseph a lot and wants to
bring him in as a head coach and they think, well,
he might bring Davis Web with.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
Him as THEOC, how cool would that be?

Speaker 1 (05:13):
I Mean, I know you're not supposed to say this
in Broncos country, but the Raiders gig would look pretty
good to me. If I'm Vance Joseph, if I can
bring Davis Web along You've already got some pieces on
the defense. You've got Ashen Genty at running back, You've
got Brock Bauers at tight end, and then you've got
that number one overall pick, which will you would guess.

(05:33):
Even though Ben doesn't think Mendoza is very good, I
think he's going to be the number one pick.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
I love the above.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
The shoulders, especially of Fernando Mendoza, and just.

Speaker 4 (05:44):
The gut it out mindset he has.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
I mean, we talked about it after he took that
head against Ohio State in the Big Ten championship game
and you're like, how's this dude even gonna get up again?
And he goes out there and leads him to a win.
But if you're Advance Joseph, and you can bring Davis
web along with you to the Raiders and get a
number one pick, Like you said, we've already seen how
Davis Webb can develop a quarterback like he has with

(06:06):
Bo Nicks, I think that's got to be a top
of the list scenario. Would you agree or do you
think there's other jobs that are better out there for
a fit for Vance Joseph.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
Well, yeah, there are better jobs. If there is a
job and it's ready set go. It's to darn Baltimore Ravens.
They have some pieces on defense. We saw what Vance
Joseph has done with this Broncos defense.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Sixty three sacks last year.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
They beat that number this year when that was kind
of somewhat in question whether they were going to do
that again. And for the second year in a row,
they are leading the charge for this team. And if
you think about the Baltimore Ravens, because here's a couple
of things. Let me back up for a second that
I say that have to be important when you're looking

(06:54):
at a job. Obviously, if you are being offered a job,
you like, yes, I want to take the interview. But
as a head coach, here are a couple of things
that you look at. Okay, well, the first thing is
who's your quarterback? Right, who's your backup quarterback? How much
cap space do you have?

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Right?

Speaker 3 (07:13):
What outgoing free agents do you have? But more importantly,
what's kind of the ownership, like what's the culture?

Speaker 6 (07:20):
Like?

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Yes, right?

Speaker 3 (07:21):
And Baltimore, I mean that culture was already established by
John Harbaugh. And I know the saying is, you know,
it's hard to be the guy following a guy but
based on Vance Joseph's nature, his ability to connect with
his players, to me, I think that falls right in
line with what coach Harbaugh has already established.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
Yeah, and I think I gained a new appreciation for
Vance and how he relates to players when they did
the hard knocks when he was the defensive coordinator in Arizona,
and you just saw the way that he I mean,
I know there's different ways to go about it as
a head coach. You can be the disciplinarian, you can
be the players coach. Seemed like Vance did a really
good job of merging the two and kind of being like, hey,

(08:05):
I'm going to set very high expectations for you, and
I'm going to tell you when you're not meeting them,
but I'm also going to be there for you and
treat you like the professional that you are.

Speaker 4 (08:14):
I'm not going to talk down to you.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
I'm going to let you know that, hey, we're all
here for a common goal and this is how we
get to that goal. And he seems like he's ready
for his second opportunity.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
And some people have said to me at the beginning
of the season that, well, you know, Vance Joseph is
his best suited just to be defensive coordinator and not
a head coach. And I said no to that because
I say, listen, you would have thought after what happened
with Vance here as a head coach with the Broncos,
he wouldn't be back here on the second stint.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
But he is.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
He's made good on that stint with how he's led
this defense for two years, and I feel as though
he's earned the opportunity to have the ability to lead
another team. And I guess if you talk to him,
he'll probably tell you that, Listen, there's a lot of
things that he did his first time around that he
would do differently. And oh, by the way, to keep

(09:08):
this in mind, even though he was the head coach,
there was a lot of things that he couldn't really
do control.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
Well, yeah, they were out of this control.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
And that's the thing that most fans and people in
the media here in this market they failed to realize.
But I think with the second opportunity he would do
a whole lot better. But if we're looking at the
teams that are available in Arizona, Cleveland, Baltimore, Tennessee, New York, Miami,
and Atlanta Vegas, there are reasons where you can look

(09:40):
Grant and say, well, yeah, this would be a great
Lanta spot for a guy like Van Schosa, But for me,
it would have to be Baltimore. I mean, you have
ten picks. I know, you got thirty six million in
cap you got to figure that out. You got ten picks,
you have already kind of built.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
Team, and you have Lamar Jacks, got a two time
mvpat quarterback.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
I mean, who would what?

Speaker 4 (10:02):
That's right?

Speaker 1 (10:03):
Well, let's rank them then the best head coach openings
right now. I was reading an article earlier today on
NFL dot com and they said, of course, number one
Baltimore Ravens.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
I think we can both agree with that.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
Number two, New York Giants, number three, Cleveland Browns, number four,
Atlanta Falcons, number five, Miami Dolphins, number six, Arizona Cardinals,
seven Tennessee Titans, and eight bottom of the list.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
Las Vegas Raiders. Would you agree with that ranking?

Speaker 2 (10:31):
So, so at the start is Baltimore.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
And New York, then Cleveland, Cleveland, and who wells Atlanta.

Speaker 4 (10:38):
That's one through four, Okay, so.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
I'll start there first. I agree with Baltimore, New York.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
I'm not so sure I'm not as sold on that
as everyone else is either.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
Because, first of all, once again, it's a big market
in New York.

Speaker 4 (10:54):
You're gonna have the right personality.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
Right, and they had fifteen million dollars in cap space. Now,
I will say they have a young quarterback and they
have a defense that you can build upon.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
So that is that. That's good. But I wouldn't put
them at two.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
I would look more to put the Atlanta Falcons at two.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
And the reason I.

Speaker 3 (11:16):
Well, you know what, you know what, No, No, I
would put Tennessee at two.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
Really, I'll put.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Tennessee at too.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
Why, Well, Tennessee they have the most money for free
agency hundred and thirteen, that's right, most money you can.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
Go get some of the guys you want.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
That's right. And they already have a quarterback in place
who's on a rookie deal.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
Do you believe in cam Ward You think he's going
to be a legit franchise quarterback as time goes on, Yes, yes, yes, I.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
Think he's showed enough at the end of the year.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
And also too, we've seen a lot of quarterbacks drafted
in the first round that struggle because they are on
teams that they don't have the adequate personnel. Right, Right,
we've seen anywhere from Jake Locker years ago.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
Right, what's what's the.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
Guy that who was drafted out of Tennessee who loved
eating mayonnaise.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
I'm drawing, I want to say, will Lat's no, no.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
No, no, I'm drawing. Come on, Nick Ferguson. Yeah, man, man, he.

Speaker 4 (12:18):
Was just a quarterback last year.

Speaker 3 (12:19):
I can't think of I cannot. It's right there on
the tip of my tongue. Shoot, it comes, it comes
to me at some point. But yeah, so so they
drafted him out of Kentucky and things didn't work out
with him, but I think there you go. Yeah, sure,
I appreciate it, appreciate it. So they have a quarterback,

(12:41):
they have a lot of draft capital. They played well
down the stretch. They're just missing a couple of pieces, right.

Speaker 6 (12:47):
And you in.

Speaker 7 (12:48):
Nashville, right, Vegas, Yes, you're right there. It's a location
to get to in any place. But yeah, that would
be a place I would put to.

Speaker 3 (12:59):
But the Giant I would put further down the line,
and I would put Cleveland at three, even as crazy
as that sound, because you know Cleveland has ten picks.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
Two first round picks. Now, they don't have a lot
of money, right.

Speaker 4 (13:13):
Still got that Deshaun Watson contract.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
Yeah, they got to the Shawn Watson contract. But if
you're looking to kind of build through the draft, they
are kind of built for that way, so that there
are pros and calls. Like I said, for every team,
I really like Atlanta because I like Drake London, I
like Bijon right. The only thing I don't know is
what are you doing at quarterback? Yeap, what are you
doing that quarterback?

Speaker 1 (13:35):
I mean, hell, the way Kirk Cousins played in those
last couple of games after Penns got hurt, I wouldn't
be shocked if he's their number one quarterback going in
the next year.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
Well, you would have to. I mean, you're paying a
great deal of money to him, so you know why. Now,
Now here's what I would say. Now we know Clint
kobyak Is got the first round with the Seattle Seahawks, right,
I would like to see Clint kolbyak with Atlanta Falcons.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
And here's why.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
It's already been the test of the Mike Shanahan offense
before when Kyle Shanahan was there. Matt Ryan won the
MVP and they went to the Super Bowl. And oh,
by the way, Clint Kobiak has experienced calling plays for
one Kirk Cousins where the year he called plays with
Kirk Cousins.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
It's that for of the off the charts, stays.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
Off the trucks, and and you go from a coordinator
with the run mentality, he's a play action and you
got Bijon Yeah, come.

Speaker 4 (14:34):
On man, and he's just He's Arthur Blake.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
Make it happen.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
Okay, here's my quick top five. We got to go
to break here in like a minute. But Ravens, we
both agree on that.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
Falcons number two for me. Okay, then Raiders, then Browns,
then Titans. I just think the Raiders, I mean, I
know they were horrible this year, but I just feel
like they're not that far away. If they can get
the right head coach in there, I think they're gonna
be okay.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
Especially I'm a big believer in Mendoza.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
I think he's going to be the right guy for
a culture and talk about not having to worry about
a guy in Vegas getting caught up and everything that
has to do with Vegas. Yes, Bernando Mendoza is the
guy that won't get caught up at this.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
I know Broncos Country won't like it.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
They have ten draft picks, they have the second most
amount of money in free agency, and he had the
number one pick.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
They take Mendoza.

Speaker 3 (15:26):
He's on a one year deal and you use all
that cash to keep Max crossby getting the building up
and you build around him.

Speaker 6 (15:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
Fun fact about the Raiders right now paying six different
coaches a total of fifty million dollars. So I think
you're gonna get a little leeway with that Raiders coaching
job as well.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
I want to say, if you're going into it too, Vegas,
you want a six year deal man, Yeah, you want
a six year.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
Deal, especially if you're someone like Vance Jose. Six year
deal going down your second opportunity. We'll be back. We
got some great sound from Garrett Bowles coming up next
on Broncos Country at Night on KOA. Thanks to Rick
Lewis for joining us earlier in the show Broncos Color Analyst.

Speaker 4 (16:04):
You missed any of that, can find it on the.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
Free and redesigned iHeartRadio app, where you can set KOA
as a preset, just like you do in your car.

Speaker 4 (16:12):
iHeartRadio app users are loving the.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
New industry first features set Kowa as a preset today
on your iHeartRadio app. Got some great sound from Garrett
Bowles We're going to get to in just a couple
of minutes. Plus some love for Garrett as Protector of
the Year on a national podcast.

Speaker 4 (16:29):
But Nick, how about those Nuggets last night?

Speaker 1 (16:32):
Man snapping the Celtics five game winning streak, seventeen assists,
a career high from Jamal Murray and all without the
MVP Nick Lee Jokic. I think they're finding ways to
win and interesting ways. P Watt having a heck of
a what five game stretch he scored over twenty he
got thirty points last night. I think this is a
blessing in disguise for the Nuggets that the injuries happened

(16:54):
early on in the year and we're building that depth
that has worried us the last couple of postseason runs.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
Yeah, it's definitely important this time of the year, and
knowing with Jokish being out, I guess the question was
how is his team going to keep you know, solid footing,
especially in the West where the teams are more competitive.
But David Allenman just finding ways to get it done
and Baydon Washson Man, and I'll stay over the past

(17:20):
couple of years.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
This is a guy that I know.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
Not a lot of fans really talk about him because
we know there's two players who dominate the conversation with
Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokish. But based on what Washson
has been doing in this short period of time, Man,
I would love to see him get more run.

Speaker 4 (17:37):
Yeah. Well, let's see if our next guest agrees with you.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
Were heading out to the koa Common Spirit health hotline
bringing on Brendan vote from.

Speaker 4 (17:44):
D n VR.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
All the guys at DMVR always do a great job. Brendan,
how are you tonight?

Speaker 2 (17:49):
Man?

Speaker 6 (17:50):
Hey Fellows, I'm doing well.

Speaker 5 (17:51):
Appreciate you having.

Speaker 4 (17:52):
Me on, Appreciate you joining us.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
Do you agree with Nick Ferguson's sentiment that you'd like
to see p Watt get even more run even when
the Nuggets are back to full strength.

Speaker 5 (18:02):
Well, right off the bat, we're hitting on maybe the
biggest question about the Denver Nuggets right now. Pe want
elevating into a first a starting role, playing really well.
Right when Aaron Gordon was out, Christian Brown was out,
but now even without Jokic, as you guys just mentioned,
taking it to a whole other level, and it does
kind of open up, you know, a whole other box

(18:23):
of questions here. He is a restricted free agent heading
into the summer, so they don't know if they're going
to be able to keep him yet. Right when guys
get healthy, does he slide back to the bench or
do you want to keep him in this starting lineup?
Because this is multiple lineups now that Peyton Watson has
been a part of where you know, they've either managed
to stay afloat or excel offensively. He's showing a lot

(18:46):
more than I think a lot of people thought he had.
And you know, some guys are you trying to fit
him into a narrow role and they struggle to find
their footing and find their confidence. They get a little
opportunity to spread their wings, try to do some new
stuff out there, and you see their confidence just skyrocket.
So right now, Peyton Watson is an essential piece of
this team. With all the injuries, it's a really interesting

(19:08):
question when everyone comes back, do you start him instead
of Christian Brown? Do you kind of just swing back
to your original starting lineup one way or another? I
think you got to get Peyton more minutes and more
minutes alongside Jokic, because he's showing that he has a
lot more offensively than I think his reputation suggested.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
Brandon.

Speaker 3 (19:26):
When we look at this team obviously with no Nicola Jokic,
and I know it's a problem for a lot of
Nuggets fans because they don't want to think of it
a day when Nicola Jokic calls it a career. But
is it a good thing to watch his team once
again go out there with no Nicola Jokic and still
find ways to win. I mean, they went Philly the

(19:47):
other night and he pulled off the overtime win.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
Isn't that stars with no stars? Isn't that kind.

Speaker 3 (19:53):
Of a good look for this organization? As you prepare,
I know is down the line, but prepare for life?

Speaker 5 (20:02):
Sure? I mean, I mean, first and foremost, it's the
confidence of the role players that will still be helping
Yokids try to win titles right now, you know, and
like seeing those guys just kind of reach another level.
Jalen Pickett, who we hadn't seen much of, Zeke Naji,
who I think everyone had sort of decided didn't have
much to offer, but he's really put some nice games together.

(20:23):
So first, the first layer of it is, are these
guys going to be able to maintain that confidence and
contribute even in kind of smaller roles that the team
gets healthy. Because if you do think they're going to
get contributions from Jalen Pickets, Zeke Nagy and Peyton Watson,
you know life with Jokich is even that much easier.
And yeah, I think anytime you get a nice reminder

(20:43):
that these guys are professional basketball players. And obviously everything's
built around Yokich here in Denver and it hopefully will
be that way for a long time. But these guys
are professionals, and it's not entirely hopeless, it's not entirely feudal.
Credit to the guys who stepped up, and credit to
David Adelman, who's done a really really nice job in

(21:04):
any short hitded minutes so far.

Speaker 4 (21:06):
Talking with Brendan vote from DMVR.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
I loved Adamman's comments last night after the game when
he was like, yeah, we went three to four on
this road trip, but it was a successful road trip.
And I think the goal is just to hover around
five hundred until you get Joker back. Well, we're seeing
the best of Jamal Murray this year. Is this the
year that he is finally an All Star? I think
last time I checked, he was like fifteenth in All
Star voting.

Speaker 4 (21:27):
Do you think he gets the nod this year?

Speaker 5 (21:30):
I think he should. We'll find out if he does.
I think he should. I think he might. Yeah, he's
really elevated his game to another level. And I think
over the years there were some I think fair and
reasonable questions about Murray's conditioning and just how prepared he
was to get every little last bit out of his
talent right playing alongside Yo. Because he's come into camping
in the best shape of his career, and he's healthy,

(21:51):
as he's mentioned, and it is manifesting in the best
basketball he's ever played. I mean, right now, he's on
pace to set a career high in points per gamebame
a sisper game, three throw attempts per game, three point
attempts per game, and three point percentage. So this is
a really well rounded kind of bump and ascension for
a guy who has already shown at his very best

(22:12):
in the playoffs. You know he can be at robin
a high level one on a championship level team. But
this is the best he's ever been in the regular season,
so I think he did he put the work in
this summer to really be this best version of himself.
The Nuggets have needed it with all these injuries, and
I think the level he's playing at without Yo kitch
As these last five games should cement the fact that,

(22:32):
I mean, this guy is an All Star caliber player,
and I think this is the year he gets in.
It should be the year he gets in.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
So Brendon last one for me.

Speaker 3 (22:40):
When we look at the Denver Nuggets, they are third
in the West right now, and I was looking at
some power rankings in the Association and they have the
Nuggets seven and they're behind OK see at one, Detroit
Pistons at two, Spurs at three, Boston would he just
beat at four, Houston at at and the New York

(23:01):
Knicks right above the Nuggets.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
Let's just say, you.

Speaker 3 (23:05):
Know, by seasons in or let's just say about All
Star break, do you expect for these rankings to change
In order for them to change.

Speaker 2 (23:14):
What would the Nuggets have to do?

Speaker 5 (23:17):
First of all, get healthy. I think they showed when
they were healthy. They probably are in that top five.
They've been very competitive against Houston. You know, I think
that the Spurs Spurs are the interesting groups to me.
I think everyone thought they'd be a little better. I
don't know if so many folks expected them to be
this good already in the early goings of the season,
looking like potentially contenders or at least kind of challengers

(23:39):
out West. I do think the Nuggets are one of
the four or five best teams in the NBA went healthy.
I do think that's where they would end up in
those power rankings with enough time. But you know, they're
not out of the woods here yet, in the non
Jokic of the Yokic list games, even if we hear
the good news he might be back into January, got
some games to go here, so they got to keep
their heads above water in the meantime. But I think

(24:00):
most people are buying that if this team is healthy,
one of the teams that can give Okac trouble. The
Spurs are another. And you know, those three teams right now,
with Houston in there as well, I should say, are
the class of the West, and I think the Nuggets
belong in that conversation.

Speaker 1 (24:14):
Brendan, appreciate your time to man, we'll check back in
a couple of weeks, probably after this Broncos playoff run
and get deep dive into the Nuggets season and their
championship aspirations.

Speaker 4 (24:25):
Appreciate the time tonight.

Speaker 5 (24:27):
Mike Slasher, Guyst'll do it again soon.

Speaker 1 (24:29):
Brendan vote with d n v R championship aspirations for
all the teams in Colorado. We've got the Nuggets, we
got the Avs, and we've got the Broncos with the
first round by waiting to see who they will play
after wild Card weekend. We had Garrett Bowles on KOA
Sports earlier this week, and you know, for guys like
Garrett and Court who have been here through the down
times with the Broncos ever since Super Bowl fifty, would

(24:52):
they asked him about how special it is to finally
be AFC West champions and clenching that division for the
first time in a decade.

Speaker 6 (25:00):
Listen, it's special, man. I mean, I love these fans here.
I mean, one thing about Broncos Country is they're the
most loyal fans in the world, but they're also going
to tell you straight up what's going on, and they're not
afraid to beat abound the bush and and you know,
boo you and get after you and tell you to
you know, get your mind right because obviously, you know,
there's a winning tradition here and it started way before

(25:22):
I even got here. It's a it's a dynasty that
these fans have embraced and you know, having one hundred
year old fans to little kid fans to you know,
generations that are generations having season tickets. Like our fan
base is so deep and it's so ritual, and it's
so rich, and you know and truly understanding that. Like

(25:43):
you know, when you get drafted here, it's like, oh yeah,
fan base is cool. But like as I got to
know fans, as I got to do my foundation here
and I've launched my foundation, I got to know these
fans and interact with these businesses and people get to
talk to you guys, like I'm being grateful. I'm blessed
to be at them with Bronco. I'm so thankful for
our fans and what that atmosphere that they make a

(26:04):
mile high is truly electrifying and can definitely fill the juice.
And I remember walking off the field with me and Cortland,
you know, after we won that game, and you know,
we just hugged each other. It was like, man, we've
play him so long as to get to this point,
and we've seen the ups and downs and the hula
hoops and ben In circles and ben In storms and
then seeing this all come together is truly a special

(26:26):
moment for both of us, and I tend to be
more proud to represent the state this. You know, this
this team, this organization that we have in this playoffs
and you know our team is ready to roll and
I can't wait to see what happens.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
Garrett Bowles on KOA Sports every Tuesday at three o'clock,
and man, you got to feel so happy for him
and guys like Court who have put in the work,
then the examples you've wanted to lead your franchise, and
now they're seeing the fruits of their labor payoff with
an AFC West Division title and first round by in
the in the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (26:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
Man, I'll tell you this as a person who won
the AFC Division and represented the AFC and when we
played Pittsburgh Steelers, man, and that's a big accomplishment. So
first of all, to win your division or even have
the ability to play in a conference title game, and

(27:22):
there's a lot of work and sacrifice that goes into it.
And sometimes you can take it for granted that you
only have a short amount of time in this league,
and the fact that Garrett has been playing as long
as he's played, and this is the first time he
gets a chance to feel what this feels like.

Speaker 2 (27:41):
He's going to.

Speaker 3 (27:41):
The Pro Bowl for the first time in his career,
so he's experiencing a lot of first and it's got
to be really exciting for both him and his family
because I remember when Garrett first came into this league,
people said a lot of negative things about Garrett and
his ability, you know, both on and off the field,
and I didn't really like that. I got mad with

(28:03):
some of the local media people who were saying those
types of things, because until you get a chance to
know someone, you really.

Speaker 2 (28:10):
Don't know them. And Garrett is a downer earth guy.

Speaker 3 (28:13):
He's really cool, even though he gives me a lot
of flag every time he sees me. Well, if you
deliver the goods. Once again, that's not my faults. I
call on people to come through. If they don't come through, man,
then that's on them now.

Speaker 2 (28:30):
Are they making me look bad? Absolutely?

Speaker 3 (28:32):
But that shows you how great of a guy that
Garrett is, that you can have fun like that and
just poke fun and you know, at one another. But
I am proud of what he's become because I remember
that one year man where it just seemed as though
the refs.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
Had his number. It's almost like just like that. It's
just like.

Speaker 3 (28:53):
Every time a piece of orange, i mean yellow laundry
was on the field, you were thinking.

Speaker 4 (28:58):
Like noy man.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
And he's come a long way to know this though.

Speaker 3 (29:04):
He is one of the top left tackles, if not
lineman in this league.

Speaker 4 (29:07):
Well, here's a stat to back that up.

Speaker 1 (29:09):
Offensive tackles with zero sacks allowed in the regular season,
minimum two hundred pass block snaps. He's got six hundred
and seventy four pass snaps without allowing a single sack.
That's incredible. The next highest number is three hundred and
eighty four. He's almost three hundred snaps higher without allowing

(29:29):
a single sack.

Speaker 4 (29:30):
I mean that's protecting your quarterback.

Speaker 1 (29:32):
I mean that's all pro level right there, first team
all Pro right for Garrett this year.

Speaker 3 (29:36):
It is and it's a testament of the work that
he's definitely put in over the years.

Speaker 2 (29:42):
Just think about that.

Speaker 3 (29:43):
You go from fans every time a piece of yellow
lungs on the field looking to see if it's you,
to a guy that man, you know what, We're not
even worrying about that left side. It's almost like, well
we look at PS two right, We're like, okay, well
we oh, that sign is gonna.

Speaker 2 (30:01):
Be shut down.

Speaker 3 (30:02):
And when you're an offensive lineman, no one really talks
about you. No one elevates you or validates you unless
you have an issue where you have penalties of some sort.
But I mean, great, great job by Garrett bos being
who he is both on and off the field.

Speaker 1 (30:17):
Yeah, he's doing some great work with his foundation as well.
And there's a new award in the NFL this year,
Protector of the Year award. In the Athletic Football podcast
was talking about why Garrett Bowles should win that I'm
thinking about like the story of the season and how
did we get here and what matters?

Speaker 8 (30:34):
And I landed on the fact that the Denver Broncos
are the number one seed in the AFC.

Speaker 4 (30:41):
We don't really like their quarterback that much.

Speaker 8 (30:44):
What enabled bo Knicks to play well enough to lead
the Denver Broncos to the number one seed in the AFC.
And you look at it and you say, Garrett Bowles
is one of eight offensive tackles in the NFL who
played four hundred or more pass blocking slat snaps and
allowed fewer than twenty pressures. He's the only one of
those eight who played all seventeen games and the only

(31:06):
one who didn't allow a sack. He's one of three
offensive tackles to play eighty percent or more of his
team's pass blocking snaps and not surrender sack. And at
the end of the day, when we're when it's razor thin,
I think it matters that he was one of the
anchors of an offensive line that helped the Denver Broncos
be the best team in the AFC.

Speaker 4 (31:24):
So I picked Garrett.

Speaker 1 (31:25):
Pulls the Athletics Football Show, not fans of bow Knicks,
but apparently fans of Garrett Bowles. You had something you
wanted to do address in those comments, Nick about what
has allowed bow Knicks to win so many games to
get the Broncos the number one seed.

Speaker 3 (31:39):
Well, obviously, yeah, you talk about the long arm or
the lawn, and I would say that is Garrett Bowles,
but it is something that benefits modern day quarterbacks, quarterbacks
that played in years pass and that's carrying a defense
that gets turnovers, gets stops, and even though the Bronco

(32:00):
don't have a large amount of turnovers, those third down
plays and getting teams off the field, that's kind of
of a turnover, even though it doesn't end up on
the stat sheet. So, you know, a big shout out
to Garret bos but also big shout out to Vance
Joseph In that defense man, because man, where would things
be from organization to standpoint if you didn't have those

(32:22):
guys playing at a high level on defense.

Speaker 2 (32:26):
I didn't even say it.

Speaker 1 (32:27):
Some may even call them.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
Yes, Luckily, I'll say wet blanket.

Speaker 3 (32:35):
Comrade Edwards is not sitting here because he doesn't want
to say it, because he Ryan Edwards doesn't want to
give Vance Joseph In a defense credit.

Speaker 1 (32:44):
We'll give him the credit tonight on Broncos Country. Tonight
we got bremays. When we come back on KOA
