Speaker 1 (00:00):
You guys were watching the game last night as intent
ills I was. There were some running wagers going on.
I was with a crowd of people. I was surrounded
by a crowd of old Knits fans. I was the
only person who had Miami in the crowd. I feared
for my life at various points, but I still struggle
Shawn Miami, but I stood strong.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
YEA, our own.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Boss, Jojo Turbo, by the way, roly last night decided
to start tweeting at me, laughing at me for picking
Miami and saying, thankfully I kept my money in my wallet,
and then Miami covered ten minutes later.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
That's fact. I mean it was three and a half, right, yeah, yeah,
so they still covered it.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
Here is a question, because I know you you love
to respond to people on social media with things like
this happened. Was there any type of I don't know
retort to Jojo after.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
The game and if he may have deleted his tweets.
I just quote tweeted and said, you know when your
ball is roasting you. And then ten minutes later, I
just propped my feet up, put a drink, lifted my
pinky up, and uh finished my googleizer, which I don't
know this or not. It is a is it a
Denver beer? Is an Apricot sour called a you googleizer?
(01:14):
It does have been Stiller with the on the you know.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Given the googly on the remember who makes it? I don't,
but give me a second. I'll tell you. Go ahead.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
What were you saying, Nick, No, when you first opened
it up, when you said you were sitting around and
you started off with oh, I thought you said you
were sitting around with some old maids.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
That's what I thought you were going to say.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Oh no, no, no, no, no, it's a young maid, our
good buddy, our good buddy, Brad.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
From uh from sales. Yeah, you know some other people. Yeah,
they were.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
They were all on old miss and uh our friend
uh Robert Carlo used to work from my eye sports,
was there. There was a there was a lot of
uh yeah, a lot of old mislove going on there.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Well, if the rafts would have pulled the whistle out
of there, well grant, well, see this that was pass
interference on the last play. Was it Diebolt?
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Die Bolt former iHeart Sales member owns that or as
a part owner.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Yeah, Carl Wolf. Oh okay, I did not know that
the double Goozer. They have hilarious names for a lot
of their beers.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Well, Grant, I am posting something right now at Nick
ferguson Underscore twenty five which kind of breaks down the
play in question of what you saw.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
And why it was past interference. No, oh my god, No,
that is total D nonsense.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
Not dB nonsense. It's listen you would think, no, no, no, no,
no no no. See, once again, we have to know
what the rules dictate. It's like an offensive guy pushing off.
My hand can be on your chest, But did I
push you to gain.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Somewhat of an advantage?
Speaker 4 (02:47):
Now, did a defender put his hands on the V
of the guys jersey.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
And grab a hold of it and yank down. No,
he did not yank down. Brand He did not.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
When the receiver saw the ball out to the back, palalung,
that's when he launched further out to get it. Now,
if the dB was going to pull him, he would
have went down instead of out.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
And that's what people are not understanding. And I'm not
saying that just because I'm a dB. You know what
I do.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
No, No, I'm not, No, I'm not. I even have
called on the knowledge of my referee friends to either
correct me or validate what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
So, but your referee friends, so I can agree with
what you say because the refs always agree.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Whenever you go to TV to the other day, you
always agree with what the reft do.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
Hey, however you want to see it. I asked a
legitimate question. Here's what I got, and I explained to
him what I saw. And I asked him, what do
you have on this if you were officiating this side
judged back judge and it was the same identical thing.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Once again.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
You get two players looking back for the ball, fighting
for a position, right, did one gain an advantage?
Speaker 2 (04:03):
No? Like I said, you're looking at the level of intent. Now.
Did did he have his hand on the jersey? Yes?
Did he pull him down? No? Because his body jumped
out to catch the ball, Miami native former DD, I
mean that's all. What else are you going to say?
I didn't go to um AC punk Oh wow.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
I mean you had to have somebody from the ACC
get it done because he knew Georgia Tech was sure
as how we're gonna do it.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Whoa, whoa.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
Wow wow.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Mister.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
I ask you this though, like as a player, because
it does seem like refs, whether you agree or not,
that that was past interference, which it was.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
On that final play.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Do you know as a player like refs are gonna
let you go a little bit more in those final plays,
and do you adjust how you're playing that final play
of the game.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
Well, if you know how, if you know the rules
themselves and how the rules are written.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Yes you don't.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Nobody's calling anything on a hail Mary plan. Is he
watch people bring a gun onto the fence?
Speaker 2 (05:02):
It was that play college football or the pros. It
never happens. I agree with that.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
Find a play over the past twenty to thirty years
on a hell Mary. Now Lewis Reddick, who I respect
so a lot in the game, he said today when
he was on with Mike Greenberg that that wasn't a
hell Mary play, and I'm like, uh, there was only
six seconds.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
In the game. It was the final player.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
And I understand why why he was trying to articulate
why it wasn't because usually when teams set up for
the hell Mary play, they usually put one guy on
the opposite side and three to four guys on another side.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
But it was an empty formation, so there was a
play of desperation. He also did say it was past interference.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
Well, listen, man, yes, because in his mind DV himself
that's right, because he's looking at saying okay, well the
dB has hands on the wide receiver. Yes, that is true.
The receiver has hands on the dB. Yes that is true.
Where both players looking back playing the ball. Yes, they
(06:08):
were right. And like you say, in a situation like that,
Hall Murray, passing affairs is not called there's no OPI,
there's no DPI, so you allowed to play to play out.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Best man wins. Jump ball didn't happen, and.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
More importantly, the damn game shouldn't come out come down
to it in the first place.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
The party lessons to be learned from that game.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
Yeah, score more points if you're Ole Miss. How about
that the run? Well yeah, you got to be able
to stop the run.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
You've got to turn The objective in these games has
got to be to turn a team one dimensional so
you could take your best shot at them.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
Now, I also throw this in there too.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
This may piss some Ole Miss fans out, but hey,
this is just what I'm thinking. Do you think if
Lane Kiffin was there in the closing minutes of that game,
the outcome would have been different because would have been
a lot better.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
I do not and I always and it's always bleep
Lane Kiffin. Wow, Why he ain't no Lane kiffing like
that because it's always bleep Lane Kiffin. What did he
do to you? David? I know dating? What are the
dudes that that played for him? And multiplay?
Speaker 1 (07:17):
I know guys that played for him the USC, I
know guys that played for him Tennessee. And Lane Kiffin
is out for Lane Kiffin and Lane Kiffin only and
he does not care about anyone else.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
Well, I mean, there are a lot of coaches who
are out for themselves, but they're also like Brian the
players too as well.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
It's fitting that Lane Kiffin is the successor to Brian
Kelly because they're the same guy without a fake, losing accent.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Ow, Man, you got no love for a dude who
was trying to make more money? Hey, secure the bag,
but I'm still calling you what you are?
Speaker 3 (07:47):
Hey, listen, man, that do you think has to do
with him and the way he got fired by Al
Davis with the Raiders back in the day, Lane, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
He was that dude before that Okay, I would think
he was an entitled You know what, who's daddy? Who
wrote dad's coattails?
Speaker 4 (08:06):
Okay, Okay, Now we're talking about nepotism, right. Nepotism runs
rampant in everything that we do. Right, I've experienced it
from a player standpoint. Right, I've experiented experienced it from
a radio standpoint. Nepotism that that that happens, yeah, right
here that I'm a fan of it. I'm waving a
(08:27):
banner for it. Right, it absolutely stinks.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
You know where you gotta start? Why where? And he
guesses it's a grant assist of Colorado State. Okay, Thank
Kiffin was nineteen ninety nine.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
He was graticist to Colorado State before he before he
took there. He took it the next year. He went
to Jacksonville, where his dad worked, and got a defensive
quality control.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Job that because his dad was down there. And then
he went to USC and we you know, we also
what happened.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
Well, at some point, you know, maybe you get the
homeboy hook up. But then you have to give Lane
some credit for some of the things that he did,
even though his dad might have helped him kind of
get on if you had a kid, you help your
kid get on too, would you wouldn't you do that?
Speaker 2 (09:08):
I'm not saying that I wouldn't.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
But what I am saying is that Lane Kiffin has
failed upwards his entire life. That Old Miss was the
first real successful story that he had.
Speaker 4 (09:17):
Okay, let's just say that that was the case.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
He showed his those I guess Florida Atlantic. Okay, you know,
I'll be honest.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
I mean because I know why you're.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
Saying that, because where Ole Miss ended up being in
the college football playoffs.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Yeah, they start.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
When Lane got there, they were five and five and
by the time he left there were eleven and one
in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
I will absolutely get always credit for that. However, that's
how are you gonna throw however on that he was.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
Terrible at Oakland with the Raiders, he was terrible at Tennessee,
he was terrible in USC They left him on the
tarmac that that's in the past.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
I'm just saying, you got to live in the US.
But they're like, you know what, I got failed up
to the next job.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
But now you know, And then he gets said, this
is the first time he hasn't failed upwards.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
That I who was the guy that shook over for
Lane Kiffin after he left the defensive coordinated.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
What's his name?
Speaker 4 (10:05):
Okay, So Golden was in this position that he would
have never been in had Lane Kiffen not left, and
he was able, he was able to win the game
with Lane Kiffin's roster and some of Lane Kiffin's coaches.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
Well, I mean he was part of responsible that to
he's the defensive courd there, some of were his guys.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
I get that, I get that, But I'm saying, don't
just move all the chips to the table for Golden
and say, well, here's what he did, Like like you said,
when when Lane first got to Old Miss, I mean,
they were not even bleep on the radar in the SEC.
So give him credit for what he did to lead
them up to the point. Yes he left, so what
(10:46):
But at the same time, he put Ole Miss in
a position that.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
They had not been in in years.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
Eli Manning didn't do that for him, So you got yeah, no,
Eli never had.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Off back then.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
But I'm saying, like Elements has only really been relevant
in spurts, and that that was this time back when
Houston Nut was there for a minute, and and uh,
what you like before.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
That is a response to before Lane Kiffin. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
So even though he was he's at L s U.
A lot of omens fans, they don't like how he departed.
The players don't like it. So be it. That's just
kind of where the landscape of college football has been
and will be moving forward. But you got to give
him credit for getting that team to where they were entering.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
The college football playoffs. You got to give him credit.
I give Lane Kiffin credit for that. And it's still
bleep lane Kiffin, wow man, And it will always be
that way, just because I'd like, I know people that
were that dealt with him.
Speaker 4 (11:44):
Do you have I had I hate Christian Layton the
shirt too. Do you have one of those shirts? I
don't hate Christian Later. Well, I'm just saying, because you're
saying bleep, you know, lane Ki worked it all together.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
I can't say the words that you sometimes. I have
no idea what's talking about earlier this week?
Speaker 2 (12:04):
Wait?
Speaker 4 (12:05):
Wait if I don't know what evidence that you guys
have laying around here something?
Speaker 2 (12:10):
Wait, Hey, hey checked the take ay and mother we
know voice my voice.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
It's like Mike McDaniel driving around after they got that.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
Web there you go. Yeah, yeah, it's like from Dinosaurs
and Jurassic Park.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
Man c.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
I yes, I.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Didn't know people that know Lane Kiff and I'm I'll
just say this personally, I'm not a fan. If you
like the guy, fine, that's cool. I gave him his props.
He did turn around Florida Atlantic and put them on
the map. Yes, he turn around, give him his flowers,
preserves them for and then I'll say kiffer for everything
else he doesn't you.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
And everyone that's uh oh miss. There's a part of
me watching the game wondering if Blaane Kiffin. Obviously he
was rooting for his team to be successful and going
to be successful, but there were other financial incentives attached
to this.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
Came up with the package. It was right on the
border what l SU was offering. Yes, I know this
from behind the scenes. LSU had a package. Was right
on the border what ls is offering.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
L s U say, whatever, the bonus that you were
going to receive.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
Keet Golding's wins got Lane Kiff another half million dollars.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
You know how boss? Is that? How petty?
Speaker 1 (13:29):
I still hate l SU right now, but I respect
the petty yes, say they're not gonna pay it to you.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
I always respect the petty as far as as they say,
don't hate to play hit the game.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
But I'm just saying, like you know now that Lane's
gonna be over there at ls who and you know
and all that kind of stuff, So we'll see, we'll
see what he's able to do there.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
That's gonna make UH.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
I haven't looked at the schedule to see if and
when or when l SU is gonna play O Mess
and if it's home or a way, that's gonna be
really interesting.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
And I'm smart it's gonna be at all Mess. Yes,
it is in Oxford. It is Saturday, September nineteenth.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
In case you were wondering, Yes, sir Lane Kiff, it's
return to UH to Oxford will be September nineties.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
The game. I'm gonna circle all my calendar for the game.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
You know, college game is gonna be there some day.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Lost college game is it's gonna be like Week three,
Week four. College game is so gonna be.
Speaker 4 (14:26):
There's about to admit though, whether you you love or
like what Lane Kiffin did or whatever, you have to
say that this is made college football that much better
but also anticified the rivalry within the sec LS.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
You could have a loss by that time. They played
two games before that. They opened the season against Clemson.
Now it's at Death Valley, it's at it's at LSU.
But they opened the season with Clemson. Then they played
La Tag. They'll win that one. So they could be
one in one or I think either one on one
or two and all when they when they play all
miss it's.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
Best for college football if they are too and oh well,
I mean you know, I think we're all. We're all
in the anticipation schedules.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
As far as that kind of goes, I don't know
O miss the schedule, but I'm looking it up here,
give you a second real quick.
Speaker 2 (15:11):
For sure we hit the brake here.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
Why did the old mess quarterback get to get denied
for a six year?
Speaker 2 (15:17):
Because this is sixth year? So what you only have
so many years? Man? The matter in NCAA football anymore.
They're fighting in the court. We'll see, we'll see it
goes on.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
This opens UH they play a neutral site game against
Louisville and then they are playing Charlotte the University of Shane.
Watch out for Louisville UH and then uh and then
the playoff's use. So both those team stands a good
shot to be a two and OHO and have you
know in college game the rules in the.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
NFL six pack, we come back, it's time. It's time
for the NFL sixth pad.
Speaker 5 (15:48):
I'm going to them out yere insight and inside information
you can't find anywhere else.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
No.
Speaker 5 (15:54):
Six the top six NFL headline. What the Tampa Bay
Bucket years are going to interview? Falcons ocs Zach Robinson recently.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
Let go the Buccaneers gonna.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
Rick Stroud of Tampa Bay Times reports Robinson served the
Falcons offensive quartered in the past two seasons. Falcons fired
head coach Hie Morris early this week, denied the Cowboys
permission to interview defensive court to Jeff Ulbridge for the
same position they are letting Robinson interview. The Bucks completed
the interview with former Titan said coach Brian Callahan as
they seek to replace Josh Grizzard, whom they fired early
(16:26):
this week. Robinson spent five seeds with the Rams, rising
from assistant QB coach to pass the game coordinator and
quarterbacks coach under Sean McVay. After previously working for website
Pro Football Focus.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
What do we think about Zach Robinson and the Bucks job?
I thought he was bad in Atlanta. I don't know,
and certainly the Bucks saw him twice a year. I
don't know why you bring that in.
Speaker 4 (16:48):
Well, they said the Bucks stop here, and I guess
it does, because when you think about Robinson, they did
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night football and the
game that the Bucks really needed. And just think about
how many offensive coordinators that Todd Bowles has actually gone
through his office of coordinators have gone on to be
(17:09):
head coaches, Dave Canellas being one, and you have me
and Colin being the other. So this would be a
great opportunity because Robinson would know the personnel of the
Atlanta Falcons.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
Yeah, I mean, I guess maybe that's what you're doing here,
is getting intel on personnel.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
Maybe.
Speaker 1 (17:25):
I don't know, because this seems like a weird situation
with a battle see that you probably have no.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
Intention of hiring.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
I'm just surprised Todd Bowle still has his job. Honestly,
after that collass.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
Oh hold on, now, man, get off my boy, Todd.
Hold now, what are you gonna do. Wouldn't you the
DC when you were what was he with the Jets
when you were?
Speaker 2 (17:42):
He was he was my dB coach. Okay, like I
knew he was telling this, my DD coch Yes, that's
say look at him. Look it out for the dB coach.
No pass interference on Miami. Look out for Todd Bowles.
Guy's got it.
Speaker 4 (17:54):
He's on the field with a machete. You have no
pass interference. Say hey, man, listen, I'm awful. People keeping
their jobs.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
That's that part, I guess, yeah, because that's the part
I think that gets lost in all this is there's
real people with real families.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
In these jobs and all that.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
Carolina Panthers are the fifth team in NFL history to
make the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
Are they losing record? The twenty five Carolina Panthers making
history not the good kind?
Speaker 1 (18:16):
NBC Sports research the Panthers are the fiftheam to make
the losing make the players with a losing record a
non strike short season. Carolina won the NFC South, winning eight,
losing nine. Atlanta's win over the Saints triggered to three
way tie. Panthers win the tiebreaker with the best record
in the six game round robin between the other three teams.
Other teams make the playoffs despite a losing record. The
twenty twenty two Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the twenty twenty Washington
(18:40):
football team. Remember the twenty fourteen Carolina Panthers twenty ten Seahawks.
Speaker 2 (18:45):
Those teams were twenty two. They were, Yeah, that is
that game.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
The teams were two and two in the wildcard round.
The twenty ten Seahawks beat the Saints of the Beasquake Game.
Twenty fourteen Panthers beat the Arizona Cardinals. The Panthers are
ten and a half point underdogs at home.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
Against the Rams.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
The Panthers beat the Rams in Charlotte last time despite
being out a nine and a half point underdog.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
So apparently Vegas things adding a point to it. Is
us going to do something here? I don't know what
don't we think about losing teams making the playoffs. I
think it's really tough.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
It puts a lot of tremendous train on the other
teams because someone can actually win their division and have
a worse record than someone in another division. That person
that team got to go on the row. And I
think a couple of years ago with the whole beast
quake thing, right, That's what happened to New Orleans Saints.
I think they went on a row. They had a
(19:37):
better record than Seattle.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
And he ran all over. Yeah he did that. That
that he did. Yeah, But I really don't like it
put some teams at are disadvantage.
Speaker 4 (19:47):
It should be a way to reward those teams who
are second runner ups in their in their divisions and
they have quality records opposed to them teams going on
on the road.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
See. I like them getting into the playoffs because I
think divisions are in the NFL, but I would don't
like them getting the number four seed. I think you
put them all the way at the bottom.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
Dude, one through seven, best record, but if you win
your division, you're guaranteed a playoff spot.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
That might be the compromise I might be able to
get behind because all of these other you know things
about just giving the seven best records and I'm not
into that division shit batter So three the Broncos special
teams coordinator Darren Rizzy.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
He's gonna interview with the Giants on Saturday.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
The Giants gonnaicks guy gonna interview the Rizzler for their
head coaching job our career reporting.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
Rizzy is a New Jersey native.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
Giants have interviewed or will interview former Browns head coach
Kevin Stefanski, current Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph coach defensive
coordinator Lou and A Rumo, Seahawks OC Klik Kubiak, former
Cowboys Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, their own internim head
coach by Kafka, former Falcons head coach Rahie Morris had
former Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce. Pierce is making the
(20:56):
circuit right now and is available for hire, fulfilling a
lot of the Rooney rules, and people are kind of
side eyeing the way he's getting dragged into stuff right now.
Rizzy is his first season on Denver's staff, but he's
worked with Sean Payton New Orleans before. When Dennis Allen
was the head coach, Rizzy was the interim when Allen
was fired. He went three and five in that role.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
Rizzy is an.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
Assistant special teams coach the Dolphins back in two thousand
and nine when Joe Shane was there. They spent nine
years after that as their team special team's coach Rizzy
not considered at all the favorite for this, and in fact, many.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
People think that this is simply an interview to get
additional information on Vance Joseph and Davids Webb.
Speaker 4 (21:33):
I can easily see that being the case, because how
many times that we've seen teams bring players in of
other teams they're going to play a couple of weeks
out or that week of, only to siphon all the
information from them and then kick them to the curb.
So hey, look, I say this is great that the
Broncos coaches are getting interviews, but some of these interviews
(21:55):
are finding missions and quite frivolous.
Speaker 3 (21:59):
Ye Jackson Dart talking on the sideline of that O
Mess Miami game last night, I think it's say there's
Stefan scare Harbaugh in New York.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
I think those are their preferences.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
But if they don't land either one of those two,
I believe Vance Joseph is the third in line there,
So something.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
To keep your eye on.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
Four. The Washington Commanders are promoting David Bloud offensive coordinator.
According to multiple reports, Blow spent the last two seasons
as the team's assistant quarterbacks coach.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
Lions had showed interest in. Blouse served as a.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
Backup quarterback for Detroit for four seasons, played under Ben Johnson,
Kevin O'Connell, and Cliff Kingsbury. After he finished his playing
career to twenty three, Blow immediately stepped into coaching with
the Commanders, and he replaces Cliff Kingsbury. With the team
fired despite the support of quarterback Chayton Daniels, the Commanders
had already lost quarterbacks coach ta Vita Pritchard, who left
during the season to become the head coach at Stanford University.
(22:49):
The team also fired defensive coordinator Joe Witt Junior and
offensive line coach Bobby Johnson. The Commanders also interviewed Cowboys
tight end coach London Wells Cardinals passing game Cordnor Drew
Terrell for the job.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Many people were saying that Mike McDaniel might get this job.
It ultimately goes to David Blau.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
That's very interesting and I'm happy for for Blow, but uh,
it was only a couple of years ago when Blou
was the backup quarterback for the Lions.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
There.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
Now hard knocks. Yes, now he's being asked to spearhead.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
I guess the comeback or triumphant comeback for one Jay
and Daniels. So I'm interested to see how that's gonna go.
After Cliff Kingbury, you know, I guess was he fired
or did he It was a useful parting of ways,
sure was.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
It definitely was not the front office that was tired
of him playing zach Ertz over Bensona.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
I'm surprised Mike McDaniel didn't get that job, honestly, with
all the things you're like, there was that big story
that came out during the year about how much he
respected Dan Quinn and how he helped him during his sobriety.
Speaker 2 (23:55):
I thought, I thought that would be a perfect fit man.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
There were a lot of people thought that direction was
gonna go. Mike'll have options. They're interviewed him for head
coach in Tennessee and Cleveland. I don't think hes can
getting the job OC for the Lions, oh C for Tampa.
That's that's considered the leader in the clubhouse. So we'll
see how it works out for him. But right now,
that's that's kind of how that goes.
Speaker 2 (24:13):
What if Robert Salah gets one of these head coach jobs,
he could be his OC sala see that's the thing.
Sala's got some interviews, but I don't think he's gonna
take the jobs this cycle. If Sala played under a coach,
under a bat order.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
And Woody Johnson, why would he take the Michael Bidwell job?
You know?
Speaker 2 (24:28):
Why would he go work for Amy Adams drunk?
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Lots of money, I think, and he switched agents to
go with flosser Man after after I havn't been with
the keepy collected the Richmond flowers.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
But shaking his head, there's jobs next year.
Speaker 3 (24:40):
Hey, that paycheck is a whole lot sweeter in you're
a head coach.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
There's there's gonna be paycheck, head coach, paycheck next year too,
just saying five.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
The commanders also interviewed Chiefs defensive line coach Joe Cullen
for their vacant defensive coordinator job. Chief Star defensive lineman
Chris Jones reacted to the news on social media, replying,
oh bleep award that Nick Ferguson is familiar with. Cullen
entered the NFL's consistence.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
Sorry, I couldn't resist the business two thousand and six.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
With the Lions, he returned to the college ranks at
OH nine before the Jags hired him as their defensive
line coach a year later. He was a defensive line
coach for the Browns in twenty thirteen, the Bucks from
fourteen and fifteen, the Ravens in sixteen through twenty, and
then joined the Chiefs in that role.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
In twenty twenty two. He was the defensive coordinator for
the Jacks.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
The Commanders are seeking to replace defensive quarders Joe with
Junior they fired earlier this week. Chiefs have already lost
defensive line coach Alex Whittingham to the University of Michigan,
and then they fired wide receivers coach Connor Pembury. The
Commander's defense, I mean, dan Quinn, is it took over
after you know they relieved Joe wit last year. I
don't know that he's gonna stick with it. And obviously
(25:47):
they're interviewing guys for the job. They got an in
house guy and one John Pagano they could look at.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
I'm just saying, give it to coach Pegano.
Speaker 4 (25:54):
Come on, that is definitely one direction and that you
can go in, especially like he always looks to or
I would think that you would like to look from
within to promote opposed to going outside. So hopefully man
our guy uh Bugano gets aside at this.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
We need to reach out to him.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
Yeah, we do pull for We're gonna start the Twitter campaign,
give PAGs the bags, PAGs the bags, just saying do.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
You think this is like?
Speaker 3 (26:21):
This feels like the moves that you make when you're
worried about your job as a head coach.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
You fire your OC and your DC. He wasn't. He wasn't.
I mean he was safe, right, you know? Now, the
OC thing that came from the front office, there was
a there was a thing.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
Because Cliff kept playing his dude zach Ertz instead of
you know that down the stretch with nothing, there was
nothing on the line, and they wanted to play the
rookies that they drafted, get them some experience and see
where there so they could do evaluations.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
Cliff would do it, and that that became a problem
down the stretch. Six oh mikes McDaniel.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
Speaking of lighting up interviews, he looks for the next
stop for Tom Pelissero of NFL Media. The Titans will
interview McDaniel for their head coaching vacancy, next to Windy mcdangel.
Of course, just fired by the Dolphins on Thursday after
going thirty five and thirty three in the regular season
over the last couple of years, oh and two in
the postseason. Brown's are also poorly interested in speaking with
McDaniel about their head coaching vacancy. Tennessee's cast are pretty
(27:13):
wide net when it comes to candidates, with interviews scheduled
from ranging from Kevin Stefanski, Rahie Morris, Matt Naggie, Arthur Smith,
and yeah, Arthur Smith.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
So they've got a wide range.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
Now.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
Smith and Naggie are considered to be the leaders in
the clubhouse on that one, but knows, Mike McDaniel could
be somebody that could convince there.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
I doubt it, though. We'll see.
Speaker 1 (27:35):
What do we think about the Browns or the Titans
from Mike McDaniel's a head coach.
Speaker 4 (27:40):
I like the Titans of a lot better than I
like Cleveland, and the reason I say that just kind
of the uncertainty of the organization in the direction they're
going to go in. I mean, I think he would
be a good fit because some of the concepts that
he brings along, but I don't know that maybe the
ownership would just kind of settle with Mike McDaniels. But
(28:04):
Tennessee that seems like it's a better spot for him,
younger quarterback. They have a lot of money to spend,
and when you're trying to rebuild the offense, you're gonna need.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
Some key pieces. And one thing I can tell you about.
Speaker 4 (28:16):
McDaniel's he's a smart guy and may not be you know,
you may figures though he's not a great head coach material,
but when it comes to downland up those plays, man
and constructing some things, that's your due.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
Well.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
And that's why I think he's just one of those
guys like I never never take it, you know, like
if he wants to be a head coach, be a
head coach, and if you're gonna get that opportunity to
do it. But he's just one of those guys in
my mind that is better as a as a coordinator
than he is as a head coach. And can you
imagine if he moves to Cleveland from Miami, Like we
were talking about the families being involved with all these
(28:49):
coaches and the real people and all this, imagine that
lifestyle change from Mi Miami to Cleveland, Ohio, Like, well,
you know what.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
Really quickly how much further your dollar goes. Yes, that's true.
Speaker 4 (29:02):
But if I'm not mistaken, I think when Kyle was
with the Cleveland Browns when they had Johnny Manziel was
their quarterback, I think Mike mcdaine's was on that coach
he was.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
So the question is what would he wants.
Speaker 4 (29:13):
To trade the beauty of Miami for the shores of Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
Beautiful shores of Lake Erie. He was the wide receivers
coach that year, which was twenty fourteen. Okay, so there
you go. Do you think he gets a head coaching
job that's like McDaniel? Yeah, no, No, I don't think
he go back coach rehab. I mean within that'll be
that ja.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
For him.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
But you know what I mean, he goes, he goes
back in the car, walks back. I'd love to I'd
love to see him in Detroit. I think that would
be a good Detroit. Yeah, that would be a departure
from what they do on offense.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
They need to.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
That would make them really explosive, because did you mention
Jim gives from that offense.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
In Montgomery wook all the quarter tight end. I'm on
ros saying Jamis and Williams oh, well, Williams would be
a stud in that.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
Saint Brown would probably see a step back in productivity
in that offen just based on what he does.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
But he seems like a wide receiver that would block
for his running back, right, yeah, no block, no rock.
Speaker 4 (30:14):
That would be great because now within that division you
would have similar offensive play callers. You have Kevin O'Connell
with the Minnesota Vikings, you would have Matt Lafleur and
h Adam Steadovich with the Green Bay Packers, and they
even have Mike mcdaie's all three guys from the same
(30:35):
coaching tree of Mike Shanahan.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
How about that? How about that? That would be really interesting.
I'm I'm I'm definitely here for it. And of course
Mike McDaniel from you know, from here, so we're all
rooting for.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
Him, always rooting for Mike McDaniel, just saying I love
the meme going around of him where it was like
he went in as a choir boy to Miami Miami
drug peng.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
He looks at it, he's saying, he waited there looking
like yeah, and he comes out looking like Al Davis
the glasses that I was like, Matt, dude, how much swag. Yeah,
I think the problem for Mike is that Mike is
not authoritative or assertive enough as a you know, as
a person like he's he's a player's coach, but he
gets he's a little bit of a pushover when it
comes to that.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
They did not have that kind of.
Speaker 4 (31:21):
Guy that that had that that sort of pibility. Yeah,
you know, and you know what I mean by that.
I mean, I understand what you're saying, and it is
a great thing about it. Like in life, we all
make mistakes and you hope to learn from those mistakes
so you don't repeat that same behavior.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
So I would like to think that if Mike mcdamee's.
Speaker 4 (31:41):
Goes to another team, that team has a great year
statistically offensively, and he'd be back.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
In that conversation.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
One thing I will say is that if there's any
news to break on Mike McDaniel, the person to look
for to break that news is Katie Nolan.
Speaker 2 (31:56):
Why is that? Do you guys know why?
Speaker 1 (31:58):
Because Colorado comedian Soda is Mike McDaniel's best friend and
his partner is Katie no One.
Speaker 2 (32:07):
Okay, keep an eye out on her time. There very
interesting list.
Speaker 1 (32:12):
I'm just saying, uh, if you guys ever watched the
Showtime series Billions.
Speaker 2 (32:17):
No, no, I've never gotten into it.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
Dan played Mafi on on bill But yeah, that's the
moment we will pauge your money.
Speaker 2 (32:24):
Right. Uh yeah, what you McCall? Its Damien whatever his
name lewis, Damian Lewis guy. I don't know why. I
kind of get that in succession. I've seen succession.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Yes, okay, you know this is Billions, is the yellow one. Yeah,
he's he's on that show. He's Mafi or whatever.
Speaker 4 (32:40):
Okay, well listen, man, so all the coach is out
there searching for new homes or whatever. I hope you
get the right fit and you can stay in there
as long as Harbass day.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
With the with the Ravens.
Speaker 1 (32:50):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
So he too on this job, this partnership with you
and Grant progress country night. But now, like the next
couple of days, there's gonna be a little dimpter to everybody. Bro,
have you ever tried carrot cake?
