Speaker 1 (00:00):
I talked for the break about why I think the
the odds on this thing.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Are a little out of whack.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
As you've got the Patriots getting five and a half
or four and a half depending on where you look,
it's got that was high six. This defense is too
good and and I think the offense under Jared Stidiam,
I think it's gonna be better than people are thinking.
And it's it's weird to me how people push back
against that.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Last night.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
I called a hater last night for saying that Jared
Stidham is going to be better than people think he is.
And I'm like, well, wait a minute, you guys don't
ever get to call me a wet blanket again. If
I'm sitting here being the voice of optimism about Jared
Stidham and you guys are sitting here calling me still
calling me a hater.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
What am I hating on? They hit the hit the
mic button.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
There all fairness, been your previous work, uh leaves a
lot to uh be discovered because some things that you
said in the past, you know, make make a little
some people a little questionable as far as what is
your intention, because we know, like with your scores this season,
(01:02):
you found ways to play both sides of the fence.
So I understand if the audience is thinking that Ben
is trying to do it again.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
How would I be playing both sides of the fence
by saying Stidham is better than people think.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
I don't know what is the other side of the fence.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
But there's I think you guys start seeing conspiracies here
about me where they're doing none exist.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
It was like a walking conspiracy.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Though I'm not I'm not though, I'm just giving you
guys opinion, like I think that Jared Sidam's gonna better
than people think. See that's not a slight at bo Nick's.
That is saying I think Jared Stidham is better than
people think.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
But when you say things like that, based on some
of the things you've said in the past, it could
lead people to believe, like m Ben is up to something.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
He's trying to do something I hadn't think of trying.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
To reassure Bronco's country that Jared Stidham is better than
people think. They can't trust you, well they should by
now you should know to. I like to have some
fun just like the next guy. But at this point,
if you're if you're thinking of putting my name on
something like that and then watching it blow up in
my face. I think he has no way better than that.
I'm not the other guy in town that does the
contrarian stuff. Just Sam, expect.
Speaker 5 (02:09):
It's time for the NFL six Pat, I'm gonna trade
the last year an insight did inside information you can't
find anywhere else. No the top six NFL headlines.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
What this was something I suggested mid season.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
On this very show with both of you gentlemen in
the room. The Chiefs are set to make a change
an offensive coordinator and they are hiring and bringing back
Eric B. Enemy is the offensive coordinator. What are their
interest first surface this morning? But Enemy was the team's
offensive coordinator from twenty eighteen to twenty twenty two, left
to call place the Commanders in twenty three. Matt Naggie
(02:49):
began his second stint when Viennemy left the team, but
he is on an expiring contract and expected to be
a finalist for the Titans head coaching job. The Enemy
stint in washing and then ended aunt for one season.
Of course, they hired Kingsbury and Quinn. He spent twenty
twenty four at UCLA before joining the Bear staff as
the running backs coach this past year.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
What do we think about Eric b.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Enemy he back as the offensive coordinator of the Kansas
City Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
I'm not a Chiefs fan, but I like the idea
in the concept because what I've heard for so many
years was that Eric B. Enemy is unhirable. Right, he
doesn't do a great job in interviews on the East.
There's no truth to this, but this is all rumors
in hyperbole. But I like the fact that he's going back.
I remember when Eric Benemy was trying to get hired
(03:36):
and he was going through the interview process. I remember
Patrick Mahomes coming to his age talking about how much
he learned under b and me.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
Now he is an acquired taste.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
He's going to push guys to be better than they
feel as though they are, and some players are not
really ready for that. But I'm glad he's getting another opportunity.
But you said something else, Matt Nagy could become the
head coach of the Tennessee Titans. How many times you
gotta get an opportunity?
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Well this would be a second.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
But you know, Matt NAGGIEZ Like I said, how many times.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Matt Naggie is a winning record as a head coach.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
You know, many people don't realize that he is a
winning record as a head coach despite Justin Fields and
Mitch Trubisky being his quarterback.
Speaker 6 (04:13):
So does this mean that even if Naggie doesn't get
one of these head coaching gigs, his time is done.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
And the end of city just it does Matt Naggi
is hold on just a second, trying to pull it up.
Thirty four and thirty one is a head coach and
he is. He has two playoff appearances in four seasons.
Like like our our revisioned his history on matnet. Now,
some of that you could say is Vic Fangio because
Vic was the defensive coordinator for the first couple of years.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
There some of that you could say with Vic, but he.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Was twelve and four, eight, eight and eight, six and
eleven with Justin Fields.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Matt, Now you may not be as bad as people. Remember,
I'm just saying.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Kaylin Williams said, the Rams loss is a lesson in
the importance of being on the same page. Couldn't pull
a second rabbit out of his hat In overtime, wediam
set the game to overtime with a miracul touchdown pass
to Tydan Cole Kmett late in the fourth quarter, but
the final pass was a deep throw for wide receiver
DJ Moore that was intercepted by Rams safety Cam curl.
Williams said after the game the pick was caused by
miscommunication between him and more about which way the receiver
(05:12):
will run the route today. He Williams reiterated that while
saying the team need to be buttoned up on every
play of the season and that'll be a lasting lesson
of the twenty to seventeen loss.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Williams made great strides from his rookie season.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Under Ben Johnson, show a flair for late games, theatrics
long before the touchdown pass that reminded many of Russell Wilson.
But that is an identity, an identified area of need.
It needs to improve for the Bears to rise higher
next season. What do we think of the Bears this year?
What do we think of Caleb Williams In the season
two they were impressive.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
There were a lot of negative naysayers when evalue waiting
CAYLEB Williams, and he proved a lot of those naysayers wrong.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Is that let the naysayers.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
Know you're saying, yeah, he let know.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
I was abouwed to say what this proves that coach
ain't actually matters, which is talking about Matt Naggie. I
believe if Justin Fields had a guy like Ben Johnson,
that would have improved his career as well.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Wouldn't have turned him into Caleb william You.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Know, it wouldn't have turned him into Kila Williams, but
you would have been to sea, been able to see
the better side of the skill set that Justin Phils
brings to the party.
Speaker 4 (06:21):
But this is why, once again, coaching matters.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
Yeah, we saw Matt.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
Naggie, we saw Mike Tomlin, and we saw Aaron Glenn.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
With Justin Fields, and it got progressively worse.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
I just think that you just don't like him, so
let's just be y.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
I think he would make a phenomenal running back a receiver.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
See no one's say that about Tim Tebow.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
His internal clock is a sun dial. I said Tim
Tebo would make a great fullback. Three Packer's gonna.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
Interview Eagles DB's coach and passing game coordinator Christian Parker
for their vacant defensive coordinator position. Green Bay has an
opening after Jeff Hapley agreed to a five year deal
become the Dolphins head coach. Parker and in person an
interview with the Cowboys on Tuesday, and then it's going
to head to Green Bay for their.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Job as well.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Parkers spent the past two season in Philly working under
defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, and obviously previously Parker was on
the staff here with the Denver Broncos. What do we
think about Christian Parker possibly finally getting a defensive coordinator job.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
That'd be good for Christian And I got a chance
to know Christian just a little when he was here
with Denver Broncos. Smart guy knows the game, been around
Vig Fangio, and it's time to see more defensive guys
get received more opportunities because I know this is a passive.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
League and we often hear.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
About head coaching hand coaching interviews is all offensive guys.
So it'd be grateful CHRISTA. Parker to finally get an
opportunity to kind of run a defense the way that
he's learning how to do it.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Yeah, I mean, I think it'll be interesting.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
I think he's probably has a pretty good chance at
getting that job.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
To be honest with you, we'll see how that goes.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Speaking of half Lee, Dolphins of an else, the Jeff
Afley Hiry making it official twelveth full time head coach
in franchise history. Athlete was a favorite for the job,
and the Dolphins hired a John Eerick Sullivan as our
general manager ten days ago. Sullivan and Halfley spent the
past two seasons together in Green Bay. Athlete has twenty
five years coaching experience, nine in the NFL, four as
head coach at the collegiate level at Boston College.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
What do we think of Miami hiring Jeff.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
Hafley and making me three for three out of head
coaching predictions before any interview was even announced.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
I like coach Hafley.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
I had a chance to work on the coach Hafley
when I was coaching with the forty nine ers. Good guy,
he knows ball and his biggest thing is trying to
make sure he sets players up. We had both on
and off the field, and that's a huge part that
some coaches actually missed that connection and building that connection
and the fact that he coached on the collegiate level
(08:48):
at Boston College.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
He had an opportunity to work on it.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
From a professional standpoint as far as the league is
Gazaarre and the collegiate level, so he would no doubt
be a good coach.
Speaker 4 (08:59):
The problem is sure for him is finding his next
don quarterback.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
Yeah, because Tua won't be there. That's gonna be interesting
to see where he winds up. A lot of people
speculating New York will see time and hey, the mullet,
the mullet is.
Speaker 7 (09:09):
Back, right.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
I remember when he first got to college up there,
I think is Ohio State or whatever, and I was
talking about that mullet, tweeted about it or whatever, and
he and I got into a protracted conversation. It's about
seven or eight tweets deep about his mullet, and you know,
and different things like that. It's there's a whole mullet
culture thread out there somewhere.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
You gotta find it.
Speaker 6 (09:27):
Five.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Hey, go Ryans, what's CJ stroud to flush Sunday's performance
against the Patriots And be honest, that's probably a good idea.
It was kind of a turd uh Dimiko Ryan said
yesterday didn't consider making a quarterback change and the loss
of the Patriots despite four first half interceptions from Stroud.
Ryan's was asked to provide a big picture assessment of
Stroud's play during the season. He said, the quarterback position
(09:50):
gonna get the most eyes and attention. We understand that
in this league. That is what it is. CJ understands
that as well. I thought he did a really nice
job coming in and learning a new offense, new scheme.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Thought he picked it up well.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
We got better as the season went along, and he
made plays to allow us to win a lot of
football games as well.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
So is Ryan's want to.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
See Stroud improve off for twenty twenty six. He said,
I talk with CJ today and my message is the same.
Right now, it's about him flushing this one. It's gonna
be a lot of negative talk attention on him. He
can't listen to it. He's got to go back to
work in the off season. The Texans will probably pick
up his fifth year option because that's just smart. But
the question is whether it'll be willing to give him
a second contract before he has a chance to show
him that he can respond a bounts back from this.
(10:27):
After not one but two horrific games to end the
twenty twenty five playoffs. Bryan's declined to get into the
question of a contract extension. Last week, it was five
fumbles in an interception. This week it was four interceptions.
That's seven turnovers in two games. I don't even I
can't even begin to fathom how bad those two performances
(10:49):
were for a defense that was elite caliber in Houston.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
Yeah, yeah, I think it's time for CJ.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
Shroud to get to know the tidy bowl man and
definitely a flow this one with flavor and watched this
out of his mind and get away from football for
a bit because his last two performances were not that
great and this was a great time for the Texans
to take that step forward as an organization and him
to take that.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
Step forward as a quarterback. Didn't happen.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
You can't turn that ball over as many times as
he did in two weeks. And once again just wondering,
did Demico Ryans consider pulling CJ. Stroud at one particular
point And they're gonna have to do some deep soul
searching to figure out what's going on with his development.
But he has regressed since a year one for sure.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Yeah, it's you know, Bobby Sloweck got all the blame
and got fired for it. But you know, CJ. Stroud
has never returned to that rookie year forward. And he
looked a little shell shocked out there to me. I mean,
you just looked like a guy that was, especially that
first half, that was just searching for answers that just
didn't They did not have answers. And I don't know
if that's not confidence of what you're seeing after seeing
the tape all week, or your offensive line, whatever it was,
but he looked like a guy that just not have
(12:00):
any How about.
Speaker 6 (12:01):
The conditions, I feel like those had a pretty big
factor on both teams at the beginning of the game.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
Little bit. I mean maybe, but you know, and there
are a Dome team, so you know whatever.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
But still, man, I mean some of those interceptions were
just you're just like, what were you even where were
you throwing?
Speaker 3 (12:13):
So for him, is his decision making, his decision making
some somehow is taken the slide and they had to
find a way to fix that.
Speaker 5 (12:21):
Six s.
Speaker 7 (12:23):
The brown has kicked.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
Off their second round of head coaching interviews and Jim
Schwartz is the first candidate to meet with.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
A team a second time.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
Schwartz has already their defensive coordinator since twenty twenty three. Obviously,
they spent more time getting to know him than any
of the candidate for the job. Schwartz also worked for
the Browns back in the mid nineties. His head coaching
experience was stint with the Lions. Of course, he went
twenty eight and fifty one while working for the Lions.
The Browns are going to get second interviews with Mike McDaniel,
Todd Munkin, Brett Didnski, Jesse Minter.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
And Nate Schielhass.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
She'll also not be able to meet with the team
until after the NFC Championship game.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
The Didnski and.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
Schwartz are considered the favorites for the job. If you
were the Brown out of this group, who would you
be favoring.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
Well, not be favoring.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
Schwartz right now, because he's been in the building. Yes,
he's familiar with the organization. They're familiar with him. But
at some point you have to turn things over, you
have to try to do something different, bring in some
fresh views and go outside of the building. I mean,
you still have Brian Flores, who is out there. He
(13:28):
wants coach within the division to sell part time with
the Steelers, So that may be another direction, because once
again it's fresh ideas, fresh viewpoint, something that you can
throw out there to the owner Haslam and Andrew Berry
that would give them a new course of action, a
new pad, something different than they received before.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
Gret, you're the Ohio man. You have a preference on
who the Browns take.
Speaker 6 (13:55):
Is the division rival to WOS, Any chance to get
a Grant as a head coach in the NFL off taken.
But I think for the benefit of the Bengals, you
go with Jim Schwartz as the next coach for the
Browns and they'll suck again.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
Wait wait, you want that because you want to get
those easy wins, right and.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Those doves we count on those. We need those.
Speaker 4 (14:16):
So you started off every season two and oh.
Speaker 6 (14:18):
Grant Dinsky's gotten a lot of high praise from former
coaches that he's worked with. I mean, Kevin O'Connell, I
love this quote said interviewing Grant was like interviewing a
guy who could build a car from scratch for a
job at the car wash when he was their assistant onoffense.
So yeah, I think he's going to be head coach
somewhere sooner rather than later.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
I agree with that.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
The problem is, I don't think he can build a
staff right now. I don't think he This is kind
of the Davis Web problem, right you know at Nate
shieldhas problem. It's like all three of those guys are
up and comers that people view as future head coaches,
but right now they don't even have the connections to
build a staff.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
Like, who are you going to get to fill out
all these coaching staffs for them?
Speaker 7 (14:50):
Well?
Speaker 4 (14:51):
What you do?
Speaker 3 (14:51):
You just lean on individuals who you know. And because
these guys are fielding these questions and getting these interviews,
you you start putting shrews out. You call guys that
you know, that you play with, who've coached wherever they coach.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
I mean Davis Web has this staff and Brian Dable, well.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
Once again you start calling people like every coach, whether
on the Broncos staff or individuals you know like Brian Dabele,
everyone knows someone else, right, there's only like what five
sixty degrees of separation? You know someone else who knows
someone else and say, look, I might be in a
running for this job.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
I don't know if I'm gonna get it.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
But right now there's a lot of conversation and my
name has come up. If I were to get to
this job, would you be interested? Right and now, once again,
there might be some guys who are currently on staffs already,
so you have those conversations.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
But here's what I know.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
Sometimes when you're working within an organization, some coaches don't
want you looking for another job while you have a
job already. But isn't that the goal to try to
move up and get better as a coach.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
Yeah, there's a real scenario here where we lose Jim, Leonard, Vance,
Joseph and Davis web All next year and could be
all the different places.
Speaker 7 (16:06):
You know.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
That's one of those things.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
Like Davis Webb looks like he's going to get a
serious look by the Raiders, and that's going to be
interesting because again, the only two coaches that he really
knows in terms of staffs would be Brian Dable, well
you know, Sean Payton and then Cliff Kingsbury.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
We played Foreign College, Okay, then he would have the
Lino Sean Payton to kind of fill this coaching staff.
Was if you were to go to the Raiders, then
Sean would have insight on the guys that That's what I'm.
Speaker 1 (16:28):
Saying, like, are you are you letting your guys go
across the you know, are you going across the division?
I don't know, Nick Cosmader, we come back text line
three point five said, Hey, I'm just tuning in, so
if you already answered, this isn't Jim Leonard, the guy
you said would previously probably take over for Vance Joseph
if we lose him, what do you see the Broncos
finding to fill the defensive coordinator position. Well, there is
a scenario here which Broncos could lose both. You know,
(16:51):
if fans Joseph takes a head coaching gig, Jim Letards
in play in several defensive coordinator spots and I think
the favorite in Dallas.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
We'll see, you know how that winds up. But yeah,
as it hits.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
That's why I floated to what was it last week
before last when I talked about the possibility of uh
of us having a look at maybe trading a draft
pick or or trying to get the Bears to release
Dennis Allen. You know, we'll have to look around some
of the other names that would be out there, but
that's the one that's commonly connected with with Sean Payton,
So we'll see how it goes. Scott the game, it
comes from the hot line and bring on a guy
nicked Cosmidor from the athletic Nick.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
How you do, buddy, I'm great.
Speaker 7 (17:25):
How are you guys doing? Oh, you know, just.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
Riding the wave?
Speaker 8 (17:27):
I mean you you know, you come off the the
highs of winning and headed to the AFC Championship to
to only experience the lows of of bow Knicks being
out four to six months with that uh.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
That ankle injury.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
You know, as it sits right now, where are you
on the uh on the surf that has been the
the Broncos last twenty four hours?
Speaker 9 (17:47):
Yeah, you know, it's it's funny, as you guys know,
like a lot of times, the day after a game,
usually on Monday, you're you're just a little hazy from
from all that happens. After you're done covering game, right,
you know, you're you're watching.
Speaker 7 (18:00):
It, you're in the middle of it.
Speaker 9 (18:00):
You have to then kind of go back and watch
it again, and by the time Monday's done, you just
feel like totally wrecked that that has carried into the
second day this week, like which happens to be Monday
because they played on Saturday. But it really I told
my wife, I felt like you were covering two games
like that. That's what it felt like to me, because
you have this just game in its own standing that was.
Speaker 7 (18:23):
Remarkable for its it's it's.
Speaker 9 (18:25):
Swings of emotion and momentum and all those other things,
and the Broncos come out on top of that, and
then you just have this completely surreal, largely unprecedented situation
where a guy that you see do the broadcast interview
talking about, you know, play next week. You know, you
see the teammate celebrating in the locker room, to then
have the coach walk in fully dressed and be like,
(18:48):
what's happening, and then have Sean Payte deliver that news.
It's it's just been you know, a whirlwind, and then
you're you're trying to trying to catch up and and
and kind of turn your Okay, what does this look
like now here in a game that's you know, inside
of six days away. So yeah, it's just been quite
quite the seventy two hours or so.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
Well, it's been quite the seventy two hours and a
gut punch for Broncos Country. But it seems as though
the Broncos have a little good news with the Broncos
opening the practice window for JK.
Speaker 4 (19:19):
Dobbins.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
What do you think that news actually does for the
team as far as both the confidence known as though
bo is going to be out for significant amount of time.
Speaker 9 (19:29):
Yeah, I mean just to kind of see him have
that window open. It typically, once it opens, you.
Speaker 7 (19:35):
See that player practicing that week. So even if he's
practicing in some.
Speaker 9 (19:41):
Fashion with his team, I think you're gonna have some
juice to that, right, Like JK. Mike McGlinchey said it today,
Like JK Dobbins is like an energy multiplier for this.
Speaker 7 (19:52):
Team, and you guys have been around him, You see
that in the locker room.
Speaker 9 (19:55):
He just has this this personality that's really pretty contagious,
and so I think that is part of it.
Speaker 7 (20:01):
The other thing, though, of course, is if he actually.
Speaker 9 (20:04):
Can play, you know, this week, I'm sure that it
would not It certainly would not be in some sort
of you know, full carry load like.
Speaker 7 (20:11):
We saw him around week eight or week nine before
he got hurt. But even just just having him in
some fashion, giving new England something.
Speaker 9 (20:19):
Else to think about, and just maybe finding a few
plays for him that that work if he is able
to go again. We don't know, We'll have to see
what this week looks like. But I think certainly, you know,
the vibe that that creates for for guys in the
locker room is is probably a good one.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
What is your level of optimism on some of these
I mean, obviously Pat Bryan had a second concussion, but
Troy Franklin, JK.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
Dobbins, So what is your level of optimism on some
of these guys?
Speaker 9 (20:45):
Yeah, you know, it's it's interesting, like you know, kind
of going back and looking at some of the preseason
highlights with with Jared Stidham, You're like, Okay, well, these
are some of the guys that he might be might
be thrown to, like the guys that he was in there,
and then of course guys that weren't even with him
in the preseason. Like to me, Pat Bryant, you know,
when you're talking about a guy who's now had a
second concussion within the last you know, three four weeks,
(21:08):
like you have to obviously be.
Speaker 7 (21:10):
Careful with that, and he'll go through all the protocol.
Speaker 9 (21:13):
And everything, like that, but you know, that's a tough
one when you're talking about consecutive concussion.
Speaker 7 (21:18):
So you know, with his health and mind, I'm sure
that they will be cautious there.
Speaker 9 (21:23):
And then you know, we don't know the severity of
the hamstring, but you know, usually, as you know Ben
having covered this a long time and Unich, of course,
those things linger, and so they could very well be
down those two guys are we're talking about Elijah Moore
who's been on the practice squad, was promoted from the
practice squad but not active against the Bills. You know,
certainly he's a guy that's now had you know, a
(21:44):
couple of months working in this system behind the scenes.
But yeah, it's it's gonna have to be a patchwork situation,
like they had to switch on the fly in that game.
And it reminded me a little bit when when Nathaniel
Hackett was here and there were two different games where
Jerry Judy went out. One was on I think the
first drive and another one was maybe on the second drive,
(22:06):
and their whole plan that clearly centered a lot around
Jerry Judy just completely went out the window and they
had nothing. So I give Sean Payton a lot of
credit that they were able after having lost two receivers.
Speaker 7 (22:16):
Who are clearly going to be especially.
Speaker 9 (22:18):
Brian caught the first three passes of the game, you know,
then to switch midstream and be able to find still
the plays that you needed to have, I thought was
pretty remarkable.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
Nick speaking of a switching mid stream. Obviously, now Jerry
Stidham is going to be front and center for one
of the more important games in Bronco's history, but more
important game for him.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
There's been a lot of.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
Question marks around Jervis Stidham, and you know, Ben was
just talking about he said how he believes in jared'stidam
when you talk to individuals, and I know you talked
to a lot, what's kind of the vibe that you've
been receiving as it pertains to Jared's sidam and the
possibility of uplifting the Broncos to San Francisco and Levi Stadium.
Speaker 9 (23:05):
Yeah, I thought it was funny. I don't know if
you guys caught this, but Mike Rabel was talking today
in New England about how they spoke with Jared Stidham's
agent before the season. You know, they were discussing you
know the opportunity that might have been there in New
England and his as just said, if you want your
starter to be healthy, you signed Jared Stidham. Like, it
is pretty remarkable when you look at it. Every quarterback
(23:27):
that he has played behind in his entire career has
played at least fifteen games in a season, and usually
it's been seventeen.
Speaker 7 (23:35):
So like he just simply hasn't had a chance.
Speaker 9 (23:38):
But there is a reason that even though he has
not played, he is still each time he's up for
a new contract, he is signing for you know, top
backup money.
Speaker 7 (23:47):
Essentially because he's that revered. I mean, this is a
guy who in college and back to back weeks or
two out of three weeks, beat two of the number
one teams in.
Speaker 9 (23:57):
The country Georgia and then Alabama, Number one Alabama and
the Iron Bowl. So he's played in huge games before,
but but certainly nothing like an NFL playoff game. I
think the confidence just derives from him having been around
for three years with all these guys.
Speaker 7 (24:14):
That he's going to be playing next to.
Speaker 9 (24:15):
This is not this is not Philip Rivers getting called
in and you're kind of like meeting your teammates like
he has been a part of this thing from the
very start, since Sean Payton got here, and they've started
building it. So he is not in any way an
unknown to those who are gonna be on the field
with him. And and I think that part of it
can't be discounted. He's he's been truly.
Speaker 7 (24:35):
Waiting for this for a long time, and in modern.
Speaker 9 (24:39):
NFL, like it's not often that a guy sits this
long and still keeps getting signed. But I think that
speaks to what they believe that he's going to be
able to deliver when.
Speaker 7 (24:46):
It's his time.
Speaker 1 (24:47):
Would Nick Cosmodos the Athletic and I said on Twitter
that I don't think it's a precipitous drop off for
a huge drop off from from bodist him and called
a little flak for that, but you know, I'll eat it.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
It's fine. I believe that.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
I think if you go back to the quarter competition
between him and Bo after Bo was drafted, if all
things were equal and Bou wasn't you know, a first
round rookie with way more upside and all that kind
of stuff, I'm not sure this student didn't win that
competition outright, and leads in terms of performance, but Bou
showed enough that you know you wanted to run him
and get him to you know, get him in there
and be the upside guy. I think Jared's Didham can
(25:18):
cook in this offense?
Speaker 7 (25:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (25:20):
Absolutely, And I mean again, look, I'm knowing I'm not
coming on here to tell you guys that preseason is
the same as AFC Championship game. We all know that,
But like this, the seamlessness with which and the like.
To me, the way this I described it to somebody
I was talking to today was like when you watched
him in the preseason, he was just like completely unbothered.
(25:42):
Like that's how just like smooth it was for him.
And I thought it really spoke to like where he's
at in this offense, like when.
Speaker 7 (25:50):
He first got here with Sean Payton, Like just like.
Speaker 9 (25:52):
Russell Wilson, he was kind of learning this thing in
twenty twenty three. And then to your point, Ben, I
thought there was a huge jump the way that he
performed in camp when he was competing for the job.
Speaker 7 (26:01):
And I would agree.
Speaker 9 (26:02):
I think if you, if you had it just a
purely objective view of like whoever is the better quarterback?
Speaker 7 (26:08):
In training camp is going to start.
Speaker 9 (26:10):
I think it would have been him, but that's not
how you can judge that competition. There's so much more
at play there. But but he was and then this
this year, this was the best.
Speaker 7 (26:20):
This was his best summer as a pro. Like the
way that he played in training camp. You talk to
anybody and just every single day you're like, this guy
could easily.
Speaker 9 (26:29):
Be starting in this league. And so what that will
mean comes Sunday. The one thing that like is tough
is like that you're just not in the rhythm. I
think with bo like you're you're just you're in a
rhythm and you just kind of start to feel this thing.
There's gonna have to be this ability this week to
kind of simulate as best you can, allowing him to
kind of get into that thing. It's great for him
(26:51):
that this game is at home, you know, having to
deal with a fan factor. The other way that would
be that would be a difficult part to add in
the mix. But they get it at home, while Drake
may is playing a road playoff game for the first
time in his career, so he has to deal with
something new. So I think there's a lot of factors
where you're this is not just like we're throwing out
that we're confident in this guy because that's what you
just have to say. There's, of course some of that
(27:13):
you have to get people believing. I think that's why
Sean just came right in and said it right away,
because hey, this is going to be Jared this We're
going to.
Speaker 7 (27:20):
Be behind him.
Speaker 9 (27:21):
But I think there's some real, like valid reasons that
that that that confidence is comes from a real authentic place.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
OHI Nigel, let's talk about some real confidence.
Speaker 4 (27:31):
And I'm glad that you brought that word up.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
Confidence. Broncos defense five turnovers? What do you say about
vance Joseph and his defense that, to be totally honest,
really hasn't been said thus far.
Speaker 7 (27:46):
Yeah. I mean that's the thing. It's like they they are.
I think they're kind of.
Speaker 9 (27:50):
The epitome of this team is that you you you
do what you have to do to get the job done.
Like right they you know you we knew that they
weren't going to be able to shut down Josh Allen
like that you're not they keep him off the scoreboard.
Speaker 3 (28:02):
You know.
Speaker 9 (28:02):
Again, I had a feeling that James Cook, after being
kind of disappointed with the way the running game went
against Jacksonville that he that he was going to come
out hungary and and he did. But but you know
what they found, They found a way. I thought one
of the things that kind of got lost in the
shuffle was, you know, the last the last play, I'm sorry,
the last play of Buffalo's second to last drive in regulation.
(28:26):
They're they're forced to settle for a field goal because
Denver comes up with a hole in the red zone.
So that so that the Denver is able to go
down then and score a touchdown and take the lead.
That I thought was was huge and it was kind
of I thought, a microcosm of them in that game,
whatever it took.
Speaker 7 (28:44):
I mean, you talked about Alex Singleton's hit that forced
the fumble on James Cook in the second quarter. If
Buffalo goes.
Speaker 9 (28:51):
Down and scores as they were, I mean that drive,
they had all the momentum in the world, was going
to be fourteen to three, and and that that completely
with the game. So I think it's you know, Sunday
or Saturday, it was turnovers. A lot of other times
in this week it's just been you know, uh, forcing,
you know, forcing them to have to settle for Fielbos
in the red zone. Whatever the case is. They just
(29:13):
they just come up with a formula to win and
do enough to carry carry the day most of the time.
Speaker 7 (29:19):
And that's it's gonna have to be no different on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
Nick Cosmoner, the Athletic We we appreciate the time as always, Nick,
Before we let you go, let me let me bring
you in on something really quickly.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
Uh, since the very beginning of the season, I've started
calling the Broncos mcgiver defense and they have not proven
me wrong thus far.
Speaker 4 (29:37):
So if you want to.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
Throw that in an article, hey listen, I'm not mad
answer you to do it.
Speaker 7 (29:43):
Okay, you might see that in there.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
Appreciate you absolutely, Nick, Take care.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
Well, I'll tell you what man advance Joseph comes out
with like a mcguiver hairpiece, you know what I'm talking about,
advances the weak, but it orders that up, It just
comes out.
Speaker 4 (29:59):
I just say, you know, you know what, that would
be sweet.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
But I think this is more of something that the
fan base should definitely embrace because this defense man, regardless
of what some individuals who.
Speaker 4 (30:11):
Said then the e P A I P A.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
This defense has definitely showed up pretty well for this
team where you needed them the most.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
Ep A, c P A, b PA doesn't matter. Yeah,
oh my godness.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
That's right, my god.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
Ever, like it's just the most run mcgiver's had since
it was on the air. I'm Richard Anderson was.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
Waking up, like how much royalties am I getting for
grant using the.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
FEME music at least once a week?
Speaker 3 (30:41):
Hey, hey, don't be surprised if Richard Dean Anderson shows
them at the game on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (30:46):
Don't be surprised.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
You know what, dude, if we could, if that happened,
that would be the coolest moment of my life. Yeah, okay,
you guys have never seen me fan girl. That'd be
the one that would be real. That would be dude, Wow,
that would be one that I would be like.
Speaker 4 (30:58):
Wow, I mean I need to start a work you
know that one? Right now?
Speaker 2 (31:01):
We get Richard and Anderson to make an appearance. Can
you make that happen? Nick, Let's make that happen this Sunday.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
Listen, man, So on as we get off, I'm gonna
start to punch us some numbers and call.
Speaker 6 (31:09):
Us a people not like Garrett Bowles is apparel, you know,
because he's still looking for that.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
Well, I guess actually happened.
Speaker 4 (31:16):
Okay, so really quickly.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
So when I was at practice on Thursday and Dave
Logan was sitting there waiting for coach to do the
coach's corner, you know who happened to be right there
when I turned around. Oh, GB seventy two, right, and
great conversation, great dude, and he just he just leaned
into me.
Speaker 4 (31:37):
There's nothing I can do.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
To talk to him again tomorrow on K Sports.
Speaker 4 (31:41):
Oh, here we go again. Here we go again.
Speaker 6 (31:45):
Do you know what.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
Here's what I'm gonna do. Right, this always seems to work.
I'm just gonna blame Ben. I'm gonna put it on Ben.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
That doesn't work anymore. No, it doesn't work. It still works.
Probably does. I gotta find so I've got a number
for his agent.
Speaker 1 (32:01):
Oh, the fee range is a little high, but I've
got a I've got a number for his agent.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
Well, this this would be great for him.
Speaker 2 (32:07):
For Richard Anderson. So he's got back the guy, yes exactly,
just said I don't think we could afford him. This
is this should be a free promotion, free promotion.
Speaker 6 (32:16):
He could be in the face of Broncos Country, Broncos Defense.
Speaker 4 (32:20):
Yeah, Broadcos making to the Super Bowl. He shows up
with Evia Stadium.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
All right, let me see what I can do. Like
I said, I've got a number for you know, we'll see.
I'll see what I can do. Let's get him on
the show too.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
While we're at it. Well, I mean that would be
a gifne you know, especially if I'm paying for this.
Speaker 4 (32:33):
Dude, that that would be so dope. That would be
so dope.
Speaker 2 (32:37):
Get Richard Dean Anderson on.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
Yes, he down there, you know, before the game on
the sideline.
Speaker 2 (32:42):
Let me see what I can do. I got no promises,
but let me see what I can do.
Speaker 4 (32:45):
No promises, no nothing.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
I do have a number for for his agent, So
that would be dope.
Speaker 7 (32:50):
I will love.
Speaker 4 (32:51):
I'ld be hilarious if I got you.
Speaker 7 (32:54):
I need you here.
Speaker 2 (32:55):
I need you to put on the Murdoch leather jacket
and the classes.
Speaker 3 (32:58):
How do you go out and get off of Amazon,
the wings of the glasses, off of Amazon.
Speaker 2 (33:05):
Don't see what I could do. Don'll promise this, but
I'll see what. I will keep you updated throughout the week.
Fronco's country. Tonight's get about pride.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
Time keep it. Next, Denvers go to their Sea Championship
game boy but feely eyes
