Speaker 1 (00:00):
For one on let us know, we'll ever see at
Perry at wide receiver. Perry a favorite of quite a
few Broncos fans. I guess because of the size, uh,
six foot five, you know whatever.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
He's still on the practice squad. But obviously the Broncos
have you know.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
I have not felt that they needed to elevate him
for anything.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Brandon.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
They just signed Brandon Johnson the practice squad. They elevated
Elijah Moore previously, they've elevated Michael Bandy before. Uh, and
they have Kyrie's rolling on that practice squad as well.
So I don't think so, I don't think. You know, Sean,
Sean Payton's typically a guy who adds guys the practice squad.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Then you never see him again. Everybody gets excited, then
you just don't receive him again.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
But we'll see, you know, he Maybe we'll see a
small ledge of more in this coming game, especially if
Pat and and Troy are you know, struggling the way
that they the way they are due to concussion of
hamstring issues.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
So could be a big day for Bandy on Sunday.
It might be a Michael Bandy day.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Who knows.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
The thing I know is it forced Marvin Mims in action.
Look what happened? Little like I've been backing the table
for this all year. We finally get some off that.
So anyway, let's go out to the KWAI cosper the
hotline though, and bring on our guy Lance Sanderson from
my eye, Lance, how you doing.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
Buddy, Ben Good to hear your voice, Buddy, I'm doing
really good. Although I need to bleach my eyes after
watching that what I thought was supposed to be a
football game, uh with the Houston Texans and New England Patriots. Yeah,
that really was more of like watching the uh the
Cooking Channel, because it was turnovers on turnovers, on turnovers,

(01:35):
and even more turnovers and more turnovers and what should
have been more turnovers. It was horrible to rewatch that game, dude,
yead It was just terrible.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Yeah, that was that was not the most enjoyable watch
out there.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Certainly you got the announcers exciting with the balls bouncing
all over the place and everything else. But as we
headed to this thing, we had the high of making
the se Championship of the low of losing Boat Nicks
for four to six months due to the injury that
he had. Jared still I feel like I'm the one
that's weirdly bullish on him all of a sudden, in
a role reversal, I'm no longer the wet blanket.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
I'm the driest towel you can find. As I think
that Jared.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Stidham can lead the Broncos to a win.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Over his former team, What say you, sir?

Speaker 4 (02:17):
You know, I actually just got done watching the game
that he had with the Las Vegas Raiders against the
San Francisco forty nine ers, And you know what, then,
I'm actually right there with you, Like this is going
to come off as like bone nick slander, and people
are gonna hate me for what I'm saying, But I
actually trust Jared sidhim to be able to go and
win this game. I mean, watching that game back, he

(02:38):
had several throws over the middle of the field, attacked
deep a handful of different times. Sure, there were some
mistakes and he put the ball in arm's way a
couple of different times, but you know what, going back
and watching that game, going back and watching some of
the preseason action that he was in, this dude plays
on time. He has a good arm, He's fairly accurate,

(02:59):
put the ball in the right places for his receivers
to go and make plays, and I mean get some
yards after the catch, like this dude is Is he
starter material? I don't necessarily think so. But based on
the way that this Broncos team has played, you know,
with the defense that they have and getting after the
quarterback and just keeping games close and tight as long

(03:20):
as you take care of the football, I think Jared
Sidham can actually make some plays for this offense and
take advantage of some of the weaknesses of this New
England Patriots defense. Like I really do think the Broncos
have a really good shot of winning the AFC Championship
Game and going to the Super Bowl next in a
couple of weeks.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Yeah, I do too. Look at it this thing, you know,
you lose a little bit with with STI.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
You lose a little bit of mobility, you lose you're
gonna take some sacks, you know, that kind of thing.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
But I also think you gain some things too.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Stidham will hang in there, He'll step up in the pocket,
he let's plays develop.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
He's willing to push the ball down the field a
little bit more.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
And I do believe you're going to see more explosive
plays out of the Broncos in this game.

Speaker 4 (03:59):
I don't disagree with you. And one of the biggest
things that I noticed in not only the preseason, but
watching this game back against the forty nine Ers a
handful of years ago, that was the one thing that
Jared Sidham did that boon Knicks doesn't typically do. And
again this is going to sound like bo Nick slander.
And don't get me wrong, I think the Broncos have
a definitely better chance if boonix is on the field

(04:20):
over Jared's Didham. But I mean the deep digs, the
deep crossing routes, taking shots down the field and exploiting
the scenes. Based on what I've just watched over the
last hour and a half or two hours or so,
is like you could actually kind of open up this
offense a little bit and just watch Jared did him

(04:40):
play on time. That's the big thing is He's not
going to scramble around and be like a super creator
behind the line of scrimmage when the pocket breaks down.
He's not going to escape and take off with the football,
although he did against the forty nine Ers a couple
of years ago. He's just going to hit his back foot,
take what's given to him, find the primary target in
the route, and deliver the football with timing and accuracy.

(05:03):
And I think that, quite honestly, it may take the
offense to a different bar. If you really want to
call it the city bar, then you could do that.
But it's gonna.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Be a lot of fun watching him, I think, well, yeah,
I think so too, Lance sad or some huddle joining this.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
I think the other part of this is the other
component of this.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
I think it'll force Sean Payton to do something he
probably should be doing more of, and that's hand the
ball off to the running backs. You're not going to
get the You're not gonna have twelve carries out of
Jared Stitum, certainly not by design in forty six dropbacks.
Is it probably going to be a more even distribution
of the football, taking some of the pressure off of
the quarterback position, and maybe we will, finally, additionally see

(05:39):
a little bit more carries out of Julia.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
McLoughlin if JK.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
Dobbins is not able to go and right now there's
there's some cautionus optimism, I would say about that, but
we need to see how he practices and recovers and
go from there. I put it forty sixty doesn't play,
but you know, we'll see, We'll see how that goes.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
You just answered my direct question. And again, going back
to that game against the forty nine Ers a couple
of years ago, they did hand the football off to
Brandon Bolden several different times. Josh Jacobs had a really
good game, so to me, I think that it really
is kind of one of those games where Sean Payton
needs to kind of dial back this hyperactive passing game.
Hand the football off, whether it's to Julu mcglothin or

(06:19):
r J. Harvey, try to just exploit the edges against
this New England Patriots defense because there's places you can
exploit it. You can actually run against this Patriots defense
a fairly decent amount. Christian Barmore is really the one
player you really need to watch out for along that
defensive line. Caleb and Chase on it in terms of
pass rush. But if the Broncos really want to sustain

(06:43):
a possible chance of winning this game, they need to
lean into the running game because it makes it so
much easier when you have a solid running game, when
you take advantage of the matchups that you have. It
opens up the play action passing game and the play
action passing game with a guy like Jared sid where
he can turn around, get his eyes back to the

(07:03):
to the middle of the field and explicit some crossing routes.
You have some opportunities here. He gives this Patriots deference
to really kind of get this offense clicking a little bit.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
That you do.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
And you know, the Patriots didn't exactly play a bunch
of world beaters on on offense this season, but you
go back and look, they did give up over one
hundred rushing yards several times, most of which came later
in the year. You look at that the Giants in December.
You had the Bengals back there in November, the Jets
in November, Jets again in December, the Bills in December,
the Ravens in December.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
It felt like that that defense kind of.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
Leaked oyle a little bit as the season went A
long stime I've talked about, but some you know, the
Broncos and how difficult it can be defended later on
the season, but you see that with the Patriots as well.
The Pagans have only given up over three hundred passing
yards however, one time on the season, and that was
all the way back in Week one against the Raiders.

Speaker 4 (07:51):
Yeah. A big part of that is they're so good
on the back end. I mean, Carlton Davis, Christian Christian Gonzal,
those two guys on the outside are absolutely fantastic. They
do a great job in disguising their coverages. I mean,
what looks like cover one is cover four, what looks
like cover two is cover zero. Like, they do such
a great job of just rotating their secondary and they've

(08:15):
got great flow with their linebackers. They are a really
really fun defense to watch. But again, though you establish
the running game, you allow Jared sit him to just
kind of pick apart the middle of the field, which
is where they seem to be the most vulnerable is
over the middle of the field. So that's what he
does best, That's what they do worst. Try to figure

(08:36):
out where to attack that.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Sean Payton, Yeah, and that's going to be the challenge
the special teams. The Patriots special team has had a
liability in a couple of games this year, so that's
going to be something else to keep our eye on
as well.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
The third phase often gets ignored in this one.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
I'm fairly confident about the Broncos chances of this one.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
I am.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
I do believe that, you know, advance and the defense
will be a lot better not having to deal with
the physics of the oversized offense have line a buffalo
coming at him. In this one, I believe the offense
is going to be better than people think with Jared Stidham,
and they'll run the ball more, which will make him
that much more effective. And you know, like I said,
the special teams competitor to this, I think the Broncos

(09:13):
have the edge here. I feel like that, you know,
we're looking at this thing of the line is what
five and a half By my math, it should be
one and a half, And I feel like the Broncos
have a.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
Really good shot at this.

Speaker 4 (09:25):
The lines at five and a half right now because
bot Nix isn't playing. And that's that's the point blank
periods fact, because nobody knows what Jared Siddam's like actually
capable of doing, because they don't want to go back
and do the research on it, like Stidham's one and
four and it is only five starts. I believe like
that that to me is the biggest separator. But when
you when you look at this like matchup by matchup,

(09:48):
whether it's the Broncos offensive line versus the Patriots defensive line,
the Broncos defensive line versus Patriots offensive line, the Patriots
weapons against the Broncos secondary, there's a bunch of different
matchups that you can point and exploit that the Broncos
had a direct advantage of. Sure, the Patriots have the
better quarterback right now, at least in terms of Drake

(10:10):
May being an MVP candidate and Jari Sidham being the
starting quarterback here, that's a distinct advantage that the Patriots
can try to explain here. But when you go down
and get it to the brass tax everything, the Broncos
have the best pass rush in the NFL. The Patriots
have allowed the fourth most sacks. And I've got a
crazy stat for you, then, since two thousand, since your

(10:34):
two thousand, there have been two players in postseason history
to have three sacks and two fourth fungles in the
same playoff game. Those two players are odatee Oway, who
plays for the Los Angeles Chargers. That was nine days
ago against the Patriots. The other player is Will Anderson,
who plays for the Houston Texans, who have played against

(10:56):
the New England Patriots two days ago. You've got a
pass rush right now that is leading the league in
sacks as a borderline on like a historic pass rush.
They can get after Drake May and force a whole
bunch of fumbles. Going back to that game against the
Texans two days ago, Drake ny fumbled the ball four times.

(11:18):
They recovered to of them. Yeah, like, there's there's an
opportunity here for this Broncos defense to really kind of
grind down against this Patriots offensive line and shut the
game down in a big way. And if Jaris didn't,
doesn't turn the football over, take care of the take
care of the ball, find the plays that when you
need him, hit a couple of steam shots, hit a
couple of crossing roads. Denver absolutely has a chance to

(11:41):
win this game with a backup quarterback that.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
I believe that they do.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
You go back and look, there's a there's a list
of quarterbacks that have been backups that have won the
Super Bowl or Morale. Of course, way back in the day,
Jim Plunkage of Hosteler, Doug Williams, Trent Gopher, he came
off for Tony Banks.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
A lot of people forget that. You know, Tom Brady was.

Speaker 4 (11:58):
A backup Frank right of Act thirty five points down
in the in the fourth quarter against the Houston Oilers
back in nineteen ninety two.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Tom brakf you're forget Tom Brady was
a backup Nick Foles of course recently, So there's a
lot of that going on.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
I think there's a lot of optimism.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
Lance.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
We got we gotta hit it here, we gotta hit
on out of here. Tom always goes too quick. Appreciate
you jumping on tonight and let's go Broncos.

Speaker 4 (12:19):
Yeah. Absolutely, man, thanks for having me on. Appreciate it.
Check out Valley Deep Divers on Mile High Huddle's YouTube page.
We go live on at seven o'clock every Friday night.
Come check us out. Thanks for having me, Ben, appreciate
We'll talk to you later.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
Yeah, looking forward to doing that. Lance Anderson from Mile
High Huddle, you guys go check check that out. Of course,
we've got Ceu Bussman's basketball coming up here bottom of
the hour right here on KOA, So we have to
get to that here in just a few and that's
why we've got the abbreviated show this evening.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
The big news of the day. Of course, Mike McDaniel is.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
Going to be the next offensive coordinator for the Los
Angeles Chargers.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
That one. I you know, this division's already tough.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
I don't like the idea of Mike McDaniel going over there,
lining up with Jim Harball and getting those two backs
going over there in LA.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
What a dream scenario for Harball though. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
I mean, you got the quarterback, you invested in your
offensive line. Unfortunately they were all hurt during the stretch
run of the season, Vega additions, but you get done
offensive line, back, running backs, You got McConkey.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
I mean, I don't know who else will be back.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
I'd say maybe Keenan Allen, But man, Mike McDaniel back
is in oc in our division.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
We better win the whole damn thing this year. Yeah,
that is the potential to be rough.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
So coming up next year, we've got the Colorado Buffalo's
taking on the Kids Jayhawks right here on k Away.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
It's Kansas Jayhawks ranked nineteenth.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
They are thirteen and five, the Buffs, of course, twelve
and six. The Buffs averaging eighty three point two points
per game, Jayhawks averaging seventy eight points per game. Bucks
better from the field, Buffs better from the field forty
eight point four percent to forty seven point two for
the Jayhawks free throw percentage the Uh, the Buffs are
a little bit better.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
The Jayhawks.

Speaker 1 (14:07):
You a little bit better from the arc thirty five
point nine percent to thirty five point five and they
make eight three pointers a game. The Buffs better on
the assist count fifteen point nine to fifteen point one.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
The Jayhawks better rebounding team. Buff's better. Uh, not turning
the not turning it over.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
This is also going to be without their head coach tonight. Yeah,
Bill self is out. It'll be Jacques Vaughan. I think
it'll be uh intering erect in that one. So good
test for the bus tonight. Yeah, get an opportunity to
really make something happen. You gotta watch out.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
They do have a pretty good shot blocker there, uh
in Bedunga, and then Tiller does a pretty good job
as well. Uh. They get a lot of shot blocks,
they alter a lot of shots there. So that's something
to keep your your eye on if you're a you're
a Buffs fan. But we will be a picture of
that next see you Busts men's basketball taking all the
Kansas Jayhawks. Right here on KOA eight fifty ninety four
