Speaker 1 (00:00):
Joining us.
Speaker 2 (00:00):
Now we've got on the ka Common Spirit Health Hotline,
We've got Patrick keyote of belief in Broncos and let's
talk Broncos Altitude Adjument podcast.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
Kat.
Speaker 4 (00:12):
How are you doing tonight? Thanks for joining us.
Speaker 5 (00:14):
Oh, you know, I'm doing fantastic. You know, kids are
finally getting over the sickness. So just in time for
the AFC Championship game. Life is good, man, Life is good.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Pat.
Speaker 4 (00:27):
How are you feeling?
Speaker 2 (00:28):
You know, it was took the wind out of the
collective sales of Broncos country when the Bow Knicks news
came out in Jared Sidham starting.
Speaker 4 (00:35):
And now we've got the fan base and including.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Yourself, embracing Jared's Diidham and making him their profile picture
and everything. How confident are you about this Jared Sidham
led Broncos team pulling off the upset in this massive game.
Speaker 5 (00:51):
Well, I think, you know the biggest part of my
feelings for this game is just kind of understanding where
you know, Coach Peyton is coming from with the you know,
next man up mentality. Yeah, it's it's really really awful
what happened with Bow and you know, I literally could
(01:11):
not help but get emotional night of that game, just
thinking about you know, all the all the feelings and
the roller coaster that he himself is going through and
the coaching staff is going through.
Speaker 6 (01:24):
But you know, the job, job is not.
Speaker 5 (01:26):
Done yet, and in order for that to happen, the
next man up has to be able to do the job.
And everything that we've seen from Sean Payton over his career, uh,
you know, coaching quarterbacks, you know, Yeah, Drew Brees was
an All timer, Hall of Famer, you know, very talented quarterback.
(01:47):
But the work that Sean Payton has done.
Speaker 7 (01:49):
With backup quarterbacks in the past, you know, Taysom.
Speaker 5 (01:52):
Hill, Teddy Bridgewater, Jamis Winston, Trevor Simian.
Speaker 6 (01:58):
He has this ability.
Speaker 5 (02:00):
To see something in these guys and just let like
get them.
Speaker 6 (02:05):
Prepared to take over. Is this the same you know,
is this.
Speaker 5 (02:10):
Situation the same as like Jameis Winston coming up and
having to play, or Teddy Bridgewater having to fill in
for Drew Brees. No, this is the conference championship game.
But in my eyes, you know, Teyton and Stidham are
kind of treating this like it is literally just any
any other Sunday.
Speaker 6 (02:28):
You know.
Speaker 5 (02:28):
The preparation is the same. You know, your your walkthroughs
are the same. Everything is is identical. There's nothing different
about this. So my confidence level with bo would probably
be a little bit higher. Uh, you know, considering who
we're playing against. This is still a very good defense.
Speaker 7 (02:48):
But you know, you we're not going to see the
backup quarterback go out.
Speaker 5 (02:52):
There and crap the bed like he's going to be ready.
He's going to be prepared. So confidence level is still
probably where it was, maybe just a little lower than
where it was after the Buffalo game.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
All right, Patrick, you brought it up and you started
talking about the Patris defense. Well, what are your overall
thoughts on that Pat's defense, Because they've done a great
job against the run, and the Brocos have not done
a great job running the ball because over the past
two weeks their leading rusher was number ten and he's
(03:24):
not going to be in the lineup on Sunday. So
what are you expecting, Mike, we're able to do to
kind of I guess slow down a guy like Jars didn't.
Speaker 5 (03:33):
Yeah, that's that's a great question. Because I went back
and I watched.
Speaker 7 (03:39):
I watched their playoff games.
Speaker 5 (03:41):
You know, I watched their run defense in their first
two playoff games, and many they are really good. It's
like they are really good, really tough up front. They
do a lot of really good things, you know. It's
one thing that I noticed was that they fell really well,
especially from from the secondary. Their safeties can come downhill
(04:04):
and fill in those run lanes pretty well. Linebackers do
a great job of scraping across and reading and reacting.
I mean, they were beating Houston to their spots before
they were even getting there. So this is a very
tough run defense, you know, before what it was after
the buy, they had three straight games where they gave
(04:24):
up one hundred and fifty rushing yards, and then Milton
Williams came back for Week eighteen against the Dolphins. They
haven't given up one hundred rushing yards since. They haven't
given up more than two hundred passing yards since November ninth.
Speaker 6 (04:37):
Against the Buccaneers. So this is a very stout group.
Speaker 5 (04:40):
And I'm not surprised at all. Like Mike Rabel, one
of my favorite coaches throughout his tenure, he always coaches
really really good defenses, and he doesn't necessarily need the
star power to do it either, Like he has a
really good system, and the way these guys played the
run is very good. Now, I will say, you know,
(05:01):
watching back, watching back the Jets game where they gave
up one hundred and sixty some yards, the Buffalo game,
the Baltimore game where they gave up one seventy or
one eighty or something. The counterplays, misdirection plays, those can
tend to gash them pretty well, and they're definitely susceptible
(05:21):
to it. Now in the playoff games, Houston didn't get what.
They had two rushes in that game for more than
five yards. The rest were sub five or negative. And
the only person in the Chargers game you know that
had consistent runs over five yards was Justin Herbert. So
(05:42):
this is going to be a very tough assignment. But
I think the key is, you know, if Sean has JK.
Dobbins back, it should be noted they played the Texans
and they played the Chargers, who, when I watched back,
probably two of the worst offensive line groups that I
have watched in recent years. But the Jets were able
to move those guys around. So I think that there's
(06:04):
still going to be some remnants there, but they've got
to be able to execute on the blocking assignments. JK
Dobbins coming back is awesome, But like you said, man
Boonix was the leading rusher for this team. I wouldn't
be surprised if we still see some like Reid option
stuff with Jared Sidam. He's got some sneaky athleticism there,
but I don't think he'll be the leading rusher. And
it really just comes down to execution for these guys.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
If you were the offensive play caller, the offensive coordinator
getting ready for this game against the Patriots with your
backup quarterback, specifically Jared Stidham in the lineup, how are
you altering or tinkering with this offensive identity to get
the best version of Jared Sidham and hopefully reach the
Super Bowl.
Speaker 5 (06:47):
Man, it's really just got to come down to, you know,
short and intermediate passes and.
Speaker 6 (06:55):
Just getting those completions and getting.
Speaker 5 (06:56):
The ball into our playmakers hands. If you try to
throw the ball downfield against this team, they've got physical
corners of physical dbs that that will shut your receivers down.
There's got a couple of really good corners that you know.
I'm excited to see Christian Gonzales versus Courtland Sutton.
Speaker 6 (07:13):
I'm excited to.
Speaker 5 (07:13):
See Pat Bryant versus Marcus Jones. But there there's gonna
be times where they can go for the shot. Play right,
You're not gonna be able to gash this team. You
have to just take the underneath stuff. Maybe you know
crossing routes, a lot of crossing routes, and just tell
City you've got to take what's there. We can't I
(07:36):
can't try to force anything. We can't always be looking
for the deep ball. But those those shots will come right.
They they are an aggressive defense, and sometimes you can
take advantage of an aggressive defense if you get the
right looks. So if they can get the run going
and Nick brought it up, you know, if they can
get the run going any like at any level, the
(07:57):
play action stuff will be there.
Speaker 6 (07:59):
Uh I am.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
I am praying, Sean, if you're listening, let's let's slow
down on the screen game, because please, they will. They
will sniff it out so quickly and they rally to
the football.
Speaker 6 (08:13):
So just take what's in front of you.
Speaker 5 (08:15):
Breathe, be patient, and let's just methodically move the ball
down the field, keep stacking first downs until we get.
Speaker 6 (08:23):
Into the red zone.
Speaker 5 (08:24):
And I know he he mentioned in himself. You know,
red zone execution has to be better, you know, going into.
Speaker 7 (08:31):
The playoffs, and maybe that's an area that they've.
Speaker 5 (08:33):
Been working on for the last couple of weeks. So yeah,
I would say, just stack those first downs, get into
the red zone, and let's punch this thing in.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
Well, well, Pat, you know what you're asking for is
a lot, because when you think about the screen game,
that was one of the things that Sean Payne was
known for back in the Wallace because you were mentioning
guys like Teddy Bridgewater and Jameis Winston and how many
games that they one.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
They utilize the spring game a lot.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
And when you're at when you're at the game, you
know the crowd, they they feel just like you. They
know when those screenplays are coming and they're not too
happy about them. So you tell me how many yards
you think that you would be comfortable with the Broncos
actually end in the game with to give them an
opportunity to win this game and put it on ice
(09:25):
against the Pats.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
Yeah, I think, you know, again, looking back over those
games and I and I specifically looked, so I looked
at the playoff games against Houston and the charters.
Speaker 6 (09:37):
And then I went back.
Speaker 5 (09:38):
And I watched the games against Buffalo and Baltimore, and
the big things that you know, led Baltimore and Buffalo
to have success was being able to sustain the run
game consistently. And so as far as yardage goes, I mean,
you're gonna have to get at least three hundred total
(09:58):
yards U in order to beat this team. If you
want to sustain drives, you want to keep Drake Man
in that offense off the field, you have.
Speaker 6 (10:05):
To be able to control the ball.
Speaker 5 (10:07):
I was a little bit shocked when I went back
and I looked at the box score and I saw
that Buffalo had the ball for like eleven more minutes
than we did in that game.
Speaker 6 (10:13):
Because it sure didn't feel like it.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
But you're gonna have to play one of those games,
and fans in Broncos Country and around the league, you know,
they might say this offense is just so boring. They're
just getting first downs and run short pass, run first down.
But that is what you have to do in order
to keep that opposing offense off the field. You have
(10:37):
to keep the Patriots defense on the field for as
long as possible. That altitude.
Speaker 7 (10:42):
Sickness is going to kick in.
Speaker 5 (10:43):
At some point man and third fourth you know, late
third quarter, fourth quarter, when the game is really on
the line. That's when we're going to see those guys
get tired, and you know Sean is gonna is going
to look over there and say, look their gas.
Speaker 7 (10:58):
You know, now's the time where we like So I
think all in all, if you can.
Speaker 5 (11:03):
Get three hundred plus on these guys, you know, one
hundred and twenty, one hundred and twenty rushing yards and
one hundred and eighty passing yards, I think you're in
a good position.
Speaker 6 (11:13):
To win the game.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
Optimism, what's a lot of numbers.
Speaker 7 (11:20):
Numbers, nick, I want. I want to say I.
Speaker 5 (11:22):
Want to touch on the screen part because I think
it's it's not like for me personally, Like I like
I love the screen game right and like I.
Speaker 7 (11:30):
Think there's a there's a right time in the right place,
and like the.
Speaker 5 (11:34):
Designs are are normally pretty good.
Speaker 6 (11:36):
What it comes down to is execution.
Speaker 5 (11:38):
And the Broncos just have struggled at times with executing
those screens.
Speaker 6 (11:43):
Blockers are slow.
Speaker 5 (11:44):
To get up field and get to their assignment. You know,
we're not letting things develop, there's too much pressure and
so the screen.
Speaker 6 (11:52):
Can't really develop.
Speaker 7 (11:53):
I hope that.
Speaker 5 (11:54):
Sean has some things in mind where.
Speaker 7 (11:56):
He can kind of attack this is This is a
team that.
Speaker 5 (11:59):
Is going to blitz a lot, right. They've been blitzing
on thirty six percent of their snaps in the postseason,
which is second highest behind Houston, right above Denver. So
if you can find some screens in your playbook that
I can attack the blitz, I think they'll be in
a good spot. Utilize Marvin Mims on some of these screens. Man,
(12:20):
you brought back Brandon Johnson. Pat Bryant's going to be
playing in this game. You've got blockers, Let's utilize mems
in the screen game. Let's get that going. Attack the blitz,
attack them where they're rushing, and I think they'll have
some success there.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
We're talking with Patrick Keyoty of Believe in Broncos. Last
one for me here, Patrick, when the Broncos defense is
going up against this Patriots offense, they're going to have
quite a test for themselves, and they've struggled a bit
down the stretch here, do you have more faith in
the Broncos offense led by Jared Sidham going up against
(12:54):
this Patriots defense or the Broncos defense trying to stop a.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
Top n DP candidate.
Speaker 5 (13:01):
M that's a good question, you know, based on how
based on how Drake May played, you know, in in
both of these In both these games, I think that
the Broncos have an opportunity to put pressure on him.
We know that he can turn the ball over. Uh,
he has the most fumbles in the postseason so far,
(13:23):
and and he's had a really bad case of the
fumbles throughout the year. So I think there's gonna be
some opportunities.
Speaker 6 (13:29):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (13:30):
You know, poor Will Campbell loved him coming out, but
those t Rex arms are coming back to haunt him.
And Nick Benito and Jonathan Cooper got to be licking
their chops, just ready and rearing to go. But I
will say, don't sleep on Drake May's athleticism either. That
guy has some sneaky.
Speaker 6 (13:47):
Good wheels too.
Speaker 7 (13:49):
I think, honestly, for.
Speaker 5 (13:50):
Me, I'm gonna put more of my my trust and
my faith in this Broncos defense. They really wowed me
against against Buffalo Many, they really wowed me.
Speaker 7 (13:59):
I thought that they did a fantastic job.
Speaker 5 (14:03):
Ja Kwon McMillan with the play of the Year, the
saving the season. Nick Bonito just was having a great
game against Dean Dawkins, which what's surprising for me because
normally he doesn't do super well against bigger offensive linemen.
But they were doing a great job.
Speaker 6 (14:20):
Pushing the pocket. Shout out to Malcolm roach Man.
Speaker 5 (14:23):
That guy was fighting through everything, and just the whole
defense really came together. I felt throughout that game to
bottle up Josh Allen at times and force him into
some really bad situations. So they can just take that
performance and take that mentality and really put it towards
this game, especially with all of the extra you.
Speaker 7 (14:43):
Know, Bo Nick stuff, and you know, we're.
Speaker 6 (14:45):
Playing for bo, we're playing for Stity.
Speaker 5 (14:48):
That is just that is just enough motivation for them
to come out and pin those ears back. I mean,
we all remember, we all remember twenty fifteen, twenty sixteen,
when the Patriots were in this building and and Peyton
is just limping by, and.
Speaker 6 (15:03):
And they're doing everything they can.
Speaker 5 (15:05):
To get the you know, get him to the super
Bowl one last time, and that defense had an amazing performance.
I see another amazing performance by this defense against the
Patriots this year.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
Hey, Pat, that's very interesting because before you joined, because
Zach Seeger had a different opinion on the Broncos on
the defense.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
That's in the group chat. He's he's heard me defense.
Speaker 6 (15:28):
I know he said how.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
The Broncos offense carried them. So I just wanted to
give you the last word to.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
Comment on that.
Speaker 5 (15:36):
Well, I I think I think that this the Buffalo
game was a very complete game in my eyes. The
offense stuttered, uh for a little bit. They they had
some trouble getting going, but you know when the when
the run game quote unquote faltered.
Speaker 6 (15:56):
Really it was just it was just.
Speaker 5 (15:57):
Bad execution on on our end.
Speaker 3 (15:59):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (16:00):
Yeah, I think that the defense stepped up when they
needed to, and then bo Nicks literally just put the
game on his shoulders. Yes, the defense forcing five turnovers
was great, but like they were on the field a
long time in that game, they gave up some massive
chunk plays. It got really close towards the end.
Speaker 7 (16:21):
But the offense also has to be able.
Speaker 5 (16:23):
To take advantage of those situations. I could see it
going either way, honestly, but for me, it was a
complete team win. I really really liked how the defense
performed in that game. Obviously there's things that they can
do better, but there's a lot of things that the
offense could have done better as well. So let's just
hope and pray that both sides listen to mister Seegers
(16:46):
and say, we have to play it. We have to
play for each other, and we have to go out
there and we got to play for ten man like
they got to win for him.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
Great stuff.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
As always, Pat, everyone make sure you're checking out the
Believe In Broncos podcast Altitude Adjustment. Thanks so much for
the time, Pat. Till next time, everyone, stay tuned. We're
coming up with more Broncos Country tonight after the break.
For some more Broncos Country tonight.
Speaker 4 (17:16):
Pulling it down, it's.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
Zack Steegers and Nick Ferguson.
Speaker 4 (17:20):
It's time Nick for an NFL six pack.
Speaker 6 (17:23):
It's time for the NFL sick path.
Speaker 8 (17:26):
Not gonna bring insight and insight information you can't find
anywhere else I know. The top six NFL headline was.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
With the Denver Broncos starting Jared stead Of in this game.
Some media figures and Patriots players are currently overlooking the Broncos.
There's been a pretty honestly crazy array of comments made
I think most notably this one from WEEI's Handy Hart.
Speaker 9 (17:57):
The Denver Broncos are not the number one seed in
the American Football Conference. They get to play the AFC
Championship at home, but the number one seed went down
when Bo Nicks went down and had surgery. They're now
the Jarrett Stidham led Broncos. Where would they have finished?
Some people think outside the playoff picture if he had
(18:18):
to start all seventeen games during the regular season. And
I want you to remind you of something in the
recent football landscape that proves my point. Do you guys
remember the two thousand and twenty three college football Playoff?
Speaker 6 (18:31):
If not, I'll remind you it.
Speaker 9 (18:33):
Was Michigan, Washington, Texas, and Alabama in the final year
of the four team playoff. You know who was not
included FSU. You know their record during the season thirteen
wins and zero losses.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
Well, how the hell can they not be in the playoff? Simple?
Speaker 9 (18:49):
Jordan Travis, their quarterback, was injured two weeks prior to
the committee meeting, and the committee said, you're not FSU,
you don't have your quarterback, You're not worthy of being
one of the final four teams in the country. The
Denver Broncos don't have their quarterback. They're not worthy of
being one of the final four teams.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
In the NFL.
Speaker 9 (19:08):
And if the NFL could do what the College Committee did,
they'd remove them from this game. You got a preseason
layup on the way to the Super Bowl. Patriots fans
because you don't have to face the number one seed.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
They're calling them a layup. They're saying they're not even
the number one seed. They deserve to be booted out
of the playoffs if we had a college like voting system. Nick,
what do you make of those comments from Boston radio?
Speaker 3 (19:32):
Well, it is Boston Radio, so you had to expect
that something like this was going to be said as
you started to break down and evaluate the game, and
knowing as though Joe Sidham doesn't have a lot of starts,
I mean, you're going to start right there with the.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
Level of criticism.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
But here's what I heard, and all of that that
was being said, there was some respect paid to bo
Nigs that many national radio and even those local media
individuals care not to do. Because what he is suggesting,
if bo Nicks did not routed his ankle, then the
(20:13):
Broncos would have a legitimate shot at winning at all.
Speaker 4 (20:17):
So for me, there's two sides of it.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
Medical criticism far for the course coming out of Boston,
but also a little slight splash of bo Nicks dash
for the record.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
I think that's a great point, because Bonix has been
wildly underrated nationally and I think at times even locally.
And you know, it's kind of a contradiction to say
bo Nicks is some system quarterback, he's mid, he's a
checkdown merchant, whatever, and then say the Broncos are now
a meaningfully worse team that he's out of the lineup.
Speaker 4 (20:50):
If you think that the Broncos chances took a.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Big hit with Boenix getting an injury, I think that
means you must at least view him as a top
fifteen quarterback in the league.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
I'm just saying, but that's mean, Nick Ferguson, I'm a
very optimistic person by nature.
Speaker 4 (21:05):
Two, that's a good drop.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Might I might have to go back and clip that
one once we're done. According to Jordan Schultz, the Las
Vegas Raiders are reportedly eyeing an offensive coach for Fernando
Mendoza and are comfortable waiting until after the Super Bowl
if they have to to hire their guy.
Speaker 4 (21:25):
Who do you think the Raiders are currently eyeing?
Speaker 2 (21:29):
And would you be scared to see Davis Webb go
across the division to lead Vegas because the implication of
this report is it's a guy still coaching.
Speaker 4 (21:37):
That's why they might have to wait.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
Well, obviously, that's what it seems like.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
And they've already interviewed Davis Webb already, So you're looking
at Davis Webb and now and I paid closest to
what you said, it wasn't head coach is looking for
someone to call plays for Fernando Mendoza.
Speaker 5 (21:57):
And it was.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
Already believed that the fact that the interview both Vance
Joseph and Davis Webb, maybe they were doing it just
to get a little insight on the chemistry that could
take place between the two. And that would make things
really interesting within a division if Davis Webb went to
join the Raiders, or if it was Vance Joseph going along.
(22:19):
Either way, it would make things that much more interesting
within a division.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
They would be a fascinating storyline to watch. I'll say, though,
bring it on. I am totally down if they want
to make Davis Webb sas you You.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
Don't have to go out there and play, so you
just sitting there and stance and watch.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
Okay, now see that's true. But also the Davis Webb,
I think he's going to be a great coach at
some point. He started his coaching career not even.
Speaker 4 (22:47):
Three full years ago.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
He's well right off the field, right into.
Speaker 4 (22:52):
The coaching and it seems to be incredible at it. Again,
the reviews are amazing.
Speaker 2 (22:57):
There's a reason he's gotten so many head coaching interview opportunities,
offensive coordinator interview opportunities this cycle. It seems almost certain
he's gonna leave for a promotion this year, and then
that's a credit to the job he's done. But if
you want to make this guy a head coach, he's
only coached football for three years of his life. And
you're gonna make him an NFL head coach responsible for
turning around but one of the most moribund franchises in
(23:19):
the last twenty years, good luck.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
I think that's a near impossible task for Davis Webb.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
Well, once again, it's an offensive coordinator for Fernando Mendoza,
not head coach.
Speaker 4 (23:31):
But they've interviewed him for that head coach.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
I'm now, if it's to assist vance Jose, if that
could be a little scary, But I'm I'm holding out hope. Please,
I'm telling you, please, Las Vegas. I mean, hire this
guy with no.
Speaker 4 (23:44):
Head coaching experience.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
I don't know who he'd hired to build out his
staff and everything. I think it would be a calamity.
And I want to see the Broncos division rivals suffer.
Three the Kansas City Chiefs. Speaking about those divisional rivals, Nick,
they've replayed based offensive coordinator Matt Naggy with Eric Beenemy
a bit of a shell game. Everyone was watching Matt
(24:05):
and n Aggie go around for head coaching interviews. They
missed the Chiefs firing him and replacing him with Eric
b Enemy. The Enemy, notably was Casey's offensive coordinator during
their best offensive seasons of the Mahomes. There at these
last two years where they've slid back, those were both
under Naggy. So what do you make of this, higher
and do you think the enemy will return the Chiefs
to their are former offensive dominance.
Speaker 4 (24:27):
I like this, and yes I do believe so.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Obviously you can see that the connection was in there
with Matt Naggy. Even when the enemy was gone doing
his whole cycle as far as trying to be hired
as a head coach, and people were saying negative things
about him, it was Patrick Mahomes who and Tyreek Hill
who came out to his defense and talked about how
good of a coach he was, how he pushed their butts.
(24:52):
He pushed them past the threshold. And that's what you
need as a player. Someone's gonna hold you accountable. Who's
someone's going to push you beyond what you think you
can't reach from an athletic standpoint, and eb is that
type of coach. And this might be an opportunity for
him to either take over for Andy Reeve when Andy reestabisade,
because who better to hire someone than hire one of
(25:14):
your own.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
Yeah, and Andy Reid's getting up there obviously. I think
there's some health concerns maybe as he keeps coaching long term,
where yeah, Eric the enemy could be that name in waiting.
He's been waiting for that head coaching job forever. I
think he's an upgrade on Matt Naggie, and I think
that'll make the Chiefs more threatening in the division for sure.
That said, I feel like they're kind of falling victim
(25:36):
to what Bill Belichick fell victim to at the end
of the New England days, where there just was never
an infusion of fresh ideas.
Speaker 4 (25:42):
He just kept going back to the will.
Speaker 2 (25:44):
Hey, let's bring back that Patricia, Let's bring back Joe Judge,
let's bring back Josh McDaniels, And there wasn't you know, Hey,
let's get a guy from that Sean McVay tree, so
we can get some hot new offensive ideas in this building.
Or let's go over to San France and get one
of the Vico's top guys and get some of those
chans that are building.
Speaker 3 (26:04):
You said that like it was Friday night on a
college campus and guys were going out trying to go
bag a hot shake.
Speaker 1 (26:10):
Gotta go get a hot coach.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
Hey, look at it there, But look at what the
Rams did.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
You know?
Speaker 2 (26:15):
They were having their own offensive funk for a second,
and then they bring in Nick Kyley from the Patriots. Hey,
let's get some of those Josh McDaniel's ideas in there.
Then it's worked runters for their offense.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
We'll just wait and see.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
For next up here, the La Chargers have agreed to
terms with Mike McDaniel that will make him the team's
offensive coordinator, assuming he doesn't get the Raiders or Ravens
head coaching job. He withdrew his name from the Browns
head coaching job consideration. He's still in the running for
(26:49):
either the Raiders or Ravens, though Ben said on KA
Sports earlier that neither of those will happen, so he
will be the Chargers offensive coordinator. Nick, what do you
make of this move the Bolts and are you scared
about having to now face McDaniel twice a year. McDaniel
famously the architect of the offense that drops seventy on
the Broncos.
Speaker 3 (27:09):
Yes, I am, because I know Michael McDaniels. I coach
with him in San Francisco. I know what he's capable
of and with the ability to just kind of think
about the offense only and that's the only way that
he kind of deal with his mind. Yeah, I think
there's a lot of things that he can do damage
with Amari and Hampton would be in.
Speaker 4 (27:30):
His second year.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
I mean, justin Herbert, you figured that he would be
much better and that offensive line would be and tagged.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
So yeah, it's problematic him.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
I mean we just talked about, you know, if McDaniels
were to come to the AFC West and AB's going
back to the Chiefs, it makes things relatively easy.
Speaker 4 (27:49):
And then consider the fact that if the Broncos.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
Were to lose vance Joseph and no matter where he goes,
that puts a large amount of pressure on whomever takes over,
whether it's Jim Leonard or someone else.
Speaker 4 (28:01):
I fully agree.
Speaker 2 (28:02):
And the Chargers, now they're coaching on either side of
the ball is very, very scary. Mike McDaniel incredibly accomplished
offensive mind, a genius in terms of run scheme and
all that stuff. And then on the defensive side of
the ball you got Jesse Minter. Now hopefully Vinter gets
hired away.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
So are you hoping for that as a brush?
Speaker 2 (28:21):
Oh yeah, man, I think If not, let's say he's
not hired away, I think you could make a strong
argument that the Chargers have the best DC and the
best OC in the sport. Five This week, the Tennessee
Titans and Miami Dolphins have hired Robert Salah and Jeff
Hafley to be their head coaches. What do you make
(28:42):
of these hires, and which do you like better?
Speaker 1 (28:46):
Well, I like.
Speaker 4 (28:47):
Both of them.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
Both guys I worked under highly enough in San Francisco,
and it's well deservant, especially after what happened with Robert
Sadad with the New York Jesse get the chance to
start over and Mode. By the way, he does have
a young quarterback who's really capable in cam Ward. As
far as Jeff Halfley, he's been a head coach and
on a college football level, he actually helped pioneer that
(29:12):
Ohio State defense.
Speaker 4 (29:14):
So both of these guys are qualified.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
And I truly believe in.
Speaker 3 (29:18):
Him because I've been around him and they always put
the players first. It's all about going out being accountable,
and they're going to force both of those organizations from
a personnel standpoint, in the front office standpoint to be
held accountable and try to establish a new culture. And
I can tell you this, I haven't spoke to my
father yet, who is a Diehart Dolphins fan, but I'm
(29:39):
gonna call him to see what he thinks of this
head coach selection.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
Interesting, I didn't know you knew Jeff Hafley. Well, he's
risen through the ranks, so quickly or become a hot
name so quickly, I should say, because he's done such
a great job leading that defense and is so beloved
by the players. Excited to see what he could do
in Miami. But I think I'm with you. I think
Robert Saal is my preferred higher of these two.
Speaker 4 (30:01):
I thought he kind of got a raw.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
Deal in New York with the whole Aaron Rodgers drama,
couldn't figure out the quarterback position. I think it might
already be figured out for him there in Tennessee.
Speaker 7 (30:11):
Six.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Finally, the Buffalo Bills are also now in the coaching
market as they look for a replacement for Sean McDermott.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
Nick.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
Who should they hire and how appealing of a job
are the Bills considering you're gonna have a GM who's
your boss and this is a championship or bus deal.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
Hey, Buffalo is still appealing because James Cook and Josh Allen.
They're moving into a new stadium, and I think the
Pagoulas wanted to kind of kick things off with a
new face because they said, well, well, christening a new building,
so we need someone else to do it. Hopefully, whomever
that person is, they're able to handle it. But I'm
sure they're going to look in their own backyard. Joe
(30:50):
Brady and Brian Dable would be good choices because once
you want someone more familiar with Josh Hallen than We've
seen it so many times where after you see a
defensive minded coach the hate coach, they go to opposite
way and try to get an officive mind to hate coach.
Speaker 1 (31:06):
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
Yeah, this might be the wrong type of opening up
that stadium with a bang if they hired the wrong
head coach. You know, everyone hopes you wind up with
an option better than Sean McDermott. What if you wind
up with the next Nate Hacket, you know, and then
you got some real a you really hating the Buffalo?
I love the Buffalo A bunch of son that you
heard that Terry Pagula press conference. You trust him to
be making a decisions for your franchise.
Speaker 4 (31:30):
Hey, look, man assist at organization.
Speaker 3 (31:34):
His money on the line, not mine, So do what
you want, even though I disagree with the firing or
Sean McDermott.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
That was an answer everybody that was He said it
without saying is it no answer to answer? He two
for more Broncos, Gudury tonight, come it up after this,
No Rocks
