Speaker 1 (00:00):
Come into it Broncos Country tonight. No, this is not
your wet blankets. I'm Grant Smith filling in for Benjamin
Albright while he is still out a little sick.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Do you want to get involved in the show?
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Hit us up on the Kawa Common Spirit helped text
line five six six nine zero, joined in the studio
by the one and only Nick Ferguson and the Hall
of Famer Steve Attwater.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
How are you guys doing great?
Speaker 3 (00:21):
When you said you weren't the wed blanket, I thought
you were saying that.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Somebody else was the web blanket. That's not here. You
are you? You are correct?
Speaker 1 (00:32):
No, the best best wishes to Benjamin Albright as he's
a little under the weather.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
I believe he'll be back tomorrow. But as you say,
we'll see come great cracking Nick, I see you got
your Georgia Tech gear on. Then they lose today right
in their ACC tournament game. Rick coming in hot today?
Speaker 4 (00:57):
Man, I mean man, I mean I didn't get a
chance even warm up, and.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
He got the snipers. Are he shouldn't be worrying that today?
Speaker 1 (01:07):
No, he still always got to represent. I just was
pointing out and that's that's a great sweatshirt. By the way,
I've never seen that one in particular.
Speaker 5 (01:14):
I appreciate it. Man, Look, come rain slee to snow.
You have to support your team.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Trust me.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
I grew up a Cleveland Browns fan. Yeah, I know
how it was. I had to transfer over to the
Bengals and the Broncos get some winners on my side.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
There we go Broncos.
Speaker 5 (01:30):
Now, No, he's like it. I haven't really figured it out.
I don't know if it's seventy thirty sixty forty.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
I was gonna say sixty forty. Okay, which way do
you think I'm leaning though? Bingles Bengals. Of course, yes,
you can't just.
Speaker 6 (01:44):
Run out on Joe Joe Burrow in Skyland chilling like that.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
That's my guy, man, He's from my hometown of Athens, Ohio.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
I got to always represent Joe Burr.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
And you know what, wherever he goes next, because the
Bengals are just screwing things up left and right like
they normally do. So wherever he goes next, I'll be
a fan of their team.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Dang. He said he hasn't had very good luck though there.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Well, they went to that Super Bowl, should have won
that Super Bowl if they could have blocked Aaron Donald
But easier said than.
Speaker 7 (02:12):
Done, right, Yeah, who can't block?
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Before we get into the big Broncos news of the day,
I do want to give a shout out to my grandpa.
I was gone the last couple of days. He passed away,
and he was the person that really ingrained my love
of sports. So I wanted to give a shout out
to my grandpa.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Max Carzy.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
All right, Max Carzy, and yeah, I had.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
This great memory that popped up over the weekend of
him almost seventy years old at one of my high
school baseball games, and the ball got stuck in the
backstop and no one could get it down. You know,
we were throwing our gloves up trying to get it down.
He spider monkeyed up the backstops forty years old. Spider
monkeys like literally just got to grind fifteen feet up
(02:57):
the backstop. Years old, seventy years old, got the ball,
I'll tossed back down.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
To the ump and play continued. Wow. Man, the bigger
question though, did you guys only have one ball? Yeah? Wow,
that that's just fairs to talk about.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Where I grew up and Southeast Ohio, but uh yeah,
but yeah, so if you have any memories you want
to share, because that one thought up for one, brought
it up for me.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Yeah, five six, six nine.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Oh, if you want to share some memory of someone
that maybe you lost and brought up a good memory
for you. So just wanted to get.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
That out of the way.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
But the big news of the Broncos today Evan ingram Ooh.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Plate maker, playmaker, play maker. Man deal officially done, the
numbers have come out. What do you make of this move?
Steve Man?
Speaker 3 (03:42):
I man, when I saw it, I heard some rumblings
about it. I heard some rumblings, but then to see
it actually happened. Man, this guy I really liked him
when he was coming out of Mississippi and you know,
had some few big years there with the Giants. Then
he went down there to Jacksonville. Still play Dcent still
played pretty good. But he's a playing He's a player, man,
(04:04):
He's a playmaker.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
This is a weapon you think they need right.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Now again again, I thought our tight ends last year,
we hey, we were just t the ball.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
They could have they could have done hold something.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Yeah, we underutilized that best player on our roster, Lucas
croll right, Hey, man, look nice man who said that?
Speaker 2 (04:24):
You know who said that? Yeah? I do know you
know that, man, Well I do.
Speaker 5 (04:29):
I'm not gonna put anyone on blast, but they know
that that didn't come through. Yes, the Broncos had on
half tight ends on their roster. We saw them utilized
on National tight End.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Day and that was it. That was the brand over
the lead close.
Speaker 5 (04:48):
Stuck up r himself, put him on the shelf. But
here's the thing with Evan Ingram, He's not gonna be
able to put him on the show. My biggest question is,
and you have to figure the guy as are sitting
home wherever they are on vacation. They're watching their team
add guys to the room. In the case of this
tight end room, you got to figure when Evan first
(05:10):
came in and had the interview with the team and
he left.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
You know, they bought big brown like whoa redds the bullets.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
The players come.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
On, Steve, let's keep it real.
Speaker 5 (05:22):
You know, the tight end room was like they were
happy for twenty four hours and then it all changed
when Evan said, you know what, yeah, this thing get
with the charges.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Not gonna won't think.
Speaker 5 (05:35):
That's they are Hey, they want to win, bro guess
what players want to win.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
But they want to play too as well. So that
mean they're not going to play. You're not gonna be
only tight end on the team.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
Well, he's gonna be the guy getting the bulk of
the passes from both Knicks based on the team paying
and what he what he made. Like when you think
about Adam Trumpman, Lucas Crowe, and you think about Nate
as of the three players that I gave you that
were Curly and the Broncos Russell last year, once y'all
have more touchdowns, Uh, you got it.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
I don't know. I hate Adkins and here he's a
full bat who wanted to be labeled this year if
the ball.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
What does he have like seven catches on the year
and five of them more touchdowns or.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
Something like that.
Speaker 5 (06:22):
But I bet you now acts like, yeah, you know what,
last year I said, I want to be labored to
tight end, not so much.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
This year? Fullback so bad. I don't think. I don't
think he never thought like that.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Free agency in the draft came along, you were like, man,
I'm glad they didn't bring in any safeties.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
No, they bring a sat to come on. They're gonna
be another position, was he said? First of all, I
wasn't here that they're gonna be the Trump.
Speaker 5 (06:47):
How he.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
Knew that if they would bring somebody in, everybody they
Broughty in sac too. It's all good if he beats
me out, hey, he deserves what he deserved to play.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
With all due respect, Nick, and I mean this with
all due respect, Steve was in a much safer position
during his playing career because of you know, his name
and what he did on the Absolutely, were you worried
when the free agency and the draft rolled round of like, man,
I hope they don't bring in another Saty.
Speaker 6 (07:15):
No, to be totally honest, no, I wasn't worried.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
You just said.
Speaker 6 (07:20):
I didn't say no, no, no, no.
Speaker 5 (07:21):
I said, the tide is the tight the current tight
end is for the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Would be worried.
Speaker 6 (07:27):
I didn't say anything about me because.
Speaker 5 (07:29):
My philosophy was, you know what you bring him in,
stand them up, I knock him down.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
Why did not the same thing I just said?
Speaker 5 (07:39):
But I was saying in regard that the tight end,
the tighte is, that's my thing.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
The Broncos tight is.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
Are thinking that way because guess what, when you were
playing with the Broncos, you had skin in the game
based on how much you played and how much you contributed.
Speaker 6 (07:54):
When I play, even though I was an undrafted player, I.
Speaker 5 (07:57):
Had worked my way into that road playing along saw Conoy,
Kennedy and John Lynch with the Curral Broncos.
Speaker 6 (08:03):
Right now, the only one that has a massive amount
of skin.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
In the game is Nate Atkins.
Speaker 5 (08:08):
You can say Adam Truman because he spent time with Sean.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Paynon down in the Wallace, But that's all water under.
Speaker 5 (08:14):
The bridge because you paid a guy in every ingram
an annoyous amount of money to do what to play,
to convert first downs and to catch touchdowns. So that's
what I'm saying someone, maybe not everyone, but are those
three guys someone is thinking looking around the room like
they're county like one of us.
Speaker 6 (08:31):
Ay, not gonna make it.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
By the way, Nate Atkins last year fourteen catches three touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
There we go. That's that's high percentage right there. That's
not bad. That's not bad. We just got to get
them to bore. Yeah, what do.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
You think of Since we haven't had a chance to
pick pick your brain about the forty nine ers safety
that we picked up.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
I can't what's it? How do you say?
Speaker 6 (08:53):
His name's Come on, Tyleno, I mean.
Speaker 5 (09:04):
That man?
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Let me see. Yeah, I think that's right.
Speaker 6 (09:13):
You were there? No, No, he wasn't there when when
I was there. But I love the way that he
plays the game.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
And let's just keep it one hundred.
Speaker 5 (09:22):
When you have an opportunity to step into a roll
at any position, you have to.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
Seize that moment.
Speaker 5 (09:28):
The reason the Broncos went out and made this move
was because they fell opposite of Brandon Jones. They needed
to make an upgrade. They needed someone who was solid,
someone who was going to be a playmaker, and the
funger Is is definitely that guy.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
So, okay, he can go. Now, he can play some ball.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
Are you worried about his uh injury, his injuries over
the years, Well.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
I think one. I trust that the Broncos have done
their research.
Speaker 4 (09:56):
That hey, he's he's helped en up off.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
He's not.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
They don't get him right. They're gonna get him right.
If he can be gotten right, he's going to get right.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
So I'm not. I'm I'm truly not even worried about it.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
Well, statistically, since Sean Payton has been the head coach,
they've been one of the healthy, healthiest teams in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Yeah, so, I mean you're right. If they can get
him right, they'll get him right.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
Yeah, if he's still if he's still hobbled a little bit,
you know. But that was the first thing I thought about. Oh, man,
I remember, you know, he got injured.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
But but man, when he's on the field, he is
a playmaker.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
Yeah, I'm sure if at some point Dave Logan's gonna
sit down with him with exclusive nasty that question and
he's going to say he's tried to pat in his game.
After Troy Paulamalo, you can tell he's got to hear
coming out of the back of his helmet, and he
plays with that reckless abandonment that you want with the
(10:55):
guy playing that position. The reason I love it because
now you have a guy that's interchangement with Randon Jones.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
There's so many things you could do defensively.
Speaker 5 (11:02):
If you advanced Joseph, you can blitz, you can cut
short crossers.
Speaker 6 (11:07):
I mean, you got guys who both can make plays.
Speaker 5 (11:10):
And the biggest thing for me, yes, you have to
be able to tackle in space. So that's kind of
the big biggest thing for me. So I like it,
and I know, Steve, you and I had a lot
of conversations about, you know, the safety play, how could
it improve? Could you know, maybe PJ Lock improve over
(11:31):
the season as the season went on, and he did
show some improvement. But every team is trying to get better.
But the one thing I like about these two editions
of you know, Hufunga and green Law is the fact
that I mean, you now become more aggressive, become more physical,
And for me, that's.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
That's what you were preaching about all last year.
Speaker 5 (11:51):
Yes, physical. I'm all about that physicality and smacking people
in the.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
Face, helping them up. And these guys they've been used
to winning. I know last year, hey, well it's kind
of an outlier, but they they've been used to winning.
They've won a lot of football games there in San Francisco,
and I think that they'll help with that winning mentality
as well.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
You think this is just another stepping stone in the
culture that Sean Payton, that Sean Payton is buildings bringing
in winners. Yeah, you know, you got to have the
first round of the playoffs was great, but now we
want to get to the championship games. We want to
get back to the super Bowl. And you're bringing in
guys that have been.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
There yep, yep, and good leaders too. Uh you know
Multafanga and Drake greenlaw man. Those guys not only can
play some ball, but uh you know they'll they'll be
leading the.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Guys, uh the proper way as well.
Speaker 5 (12:38):
The biggest thing for me is looking at why this
team was successful last year? Why right we we We
could talk about emergence and boat Nicks and is maturation
as a quarterback that has something to do with it.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
It has something to do with it.
Speaker 6 (12:54):
But for me in this I might be biased, so
correct me from wrong.
Speaker 5 (12:59):
But I look at the Broncos defense, the record number
of sex and they were able to get your point right,
the turnovers, the key turnovers. You go back to the
Cleveland game, you even go back to the Coast game.
The defense put points on the board. And sometimes we
know in the NFL your offense is going to have
a bad day.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
So when they having a bad day, to know that
your defense can score, that's huge. And then to know.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
That you're getting better, yes with already what a Top
five by all categories. Last year top five defense in
the NFL, and you just you haven't really lost. I mean,
we've lost a couple of players in pre agency, but
you've added players at those same positions that seem.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
To be an upgrade. So I mean, you've got to
think the sky's the limit with these with this defense
in this upcoming season. What what the Beyonce say?
Speaker 6 (13:47):
You got to upgrade me?
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Next? Will be putting the ring on it.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
But I also like going back to that role that
he was so good in the previous year before last year,
where he was just coming in and making plays, you know,
just subbing in for guys and being able to be
that playmaker off the bench in rotation and not have
the whole weight of being out there the whole time.
Speaker 7 (14:16):
And yeah, I think I thinkj was hobbleto a little
bit injury. So yeah, yeah, but you know he's a
playmaker too. He has a guy who has a knack
for the ball and you know, a kN act for turnovers.
And I think he's going to contribute next year as well.
I mean, you know there's gonna be some nice competition
there too.
Speaker 5 (14:35):
If I were talking to PJ right now, here's what
I would tell him because I've been where he's at,
like like starting with Kenoy Kennedy, with Sam Brandon, with Down,
I ended the season being the starter. The off season,
I meant, Georgia, take finishing my degree. I get a
phone call, so I have to walk out of class.
(14:56):
Is David Gibs, my dB coach, right, and he's telling me,
you know, if you get enough of these phone calls,
you know what's coming in because he was nice and pleasant,
which Gibbs knowing David Gibbs, that's not how hey, that's
going on?
Speaker 2 (15:10):
What are you doing right now? I mean class? Okay?
Speaker 6 (15:12):
Cool man, I hope everything is going well. How you doing?
How would you work out?
Speaker 2 (15:17):
And immediately I was like, what you want? What you want?
Speaker 5 (15:22):
Cut to the chase, And eventually I told him to
cut to the chase, only to have him tell me, hey, man,
I just want to make you aware of what the
team is about to do.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
I was like, what do you mean.
Speaker 5 (15:32):
They said, well, they're about to sign John Lynch, right,
and then he went on to tell me, but you
guys will have an opportunity to compete. I almost told
him so because we don't. We're not going to have
an opportunity to compete. You're telling me that, why make
me feel good?
Speaker 6 (15:48):
But we're not.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
Well, just John get hurt or something.
Speaker 6 (15:52):
Yeah, so that's where PJ is right now.
Speaker 5 (15:54):
They brought in the guy right to put in your
your position, who was a freaking playmaker. So it's gonna
be and I'm gonna pay attention to this to see
how PJ responds to this, because PJ has to continue
to compete.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
He has to.
Speaker 5 (16:08):
Allow this to light a fire onto his backside that's
never been lit before.
Speaker 6 (16:13):
Because if he looks at it, go you know what,
I had my shot?
Speaker 2 (16:16):
That was it?
Speaker 5 (16:17):
Then that is exactly where he's going to be viewed.
A guy who's just a special teams player, who's a
solid backup, and he's got to get out of that mode. Yeah,
I just I said, I think that he was a
bit hobble last year. That's that's it, because he's a locker.
He's a playmaker too well.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
And also this is a f you view it the
right way, right, This is another learning experience for him.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
He's still a very young player.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
I mean, if you can learn from guys like Brandon
Jones and Halfonga and pick up little tadbits of their
game that you didn't have in your game before.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
You're just going to be better for it. And guess what,
the coach is gonna put the best players on the field.
Speaker 4 (16:52):
Even if you're safety, if you can do everything, if
you're a playmaker, hey, they may take a corner off off,
they may.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
Put it another safe in versus a linebacker in certain
nicro dam situations. Exactly.
Speaker 5 (17:04):
But once again, I look at this similar to my situation,
and PJ has to look at it from this standpoint.
It's you're still on a roster. You're still competing for
a job. You showed that you could be as started
for seventeen games, right, and there were some growth and
there were some setbacks all at the same time. But
you still have an opportunity to contribute on special teams.
(17:27):
And if you're looking at how the Broncos or any
team for that matter, look at their roster when they
make additions like that, they want to see how other
players react to it, because that's the biggest tail for me.
Are you going to continue to fight for your spot
on this field and let people know you might have
(17:48):
made this decision, but I'm gonna let you know I'm
still a round the way.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
I love that we're off and rolling on Broncos Country
to Night. I'm Grant Smith filling in for Benjamin Albright
in studio with the Hall of Famers Steve Atwater and
I'm my personal Hall of Famer Nick Ferguson. We'll be
right back on Broncos Country Night on KOA A fifty
AM ninety four one FM.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
Broncos Country Tonight. Great song choice there, Zach Seekers. He's
doing a great job producing the show tonight.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
Yeah, Bronco's spending some money in NFL free agency this year.
I'm your guest host, Grant Smith filling in for Benjamin
Albright in here with Steve Atwater and Nick Ferguson.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
Well, we've seen those moves they've made.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
Are there in many moves that you want them to
still make in free agency? Or maybe what they're looking
at to acquire in the draft?
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Yes, that's a good question.
Speaker 3 (18:43):
I think the primary I mean, I would say probably
maybe running back.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
Yeah, that's where I'm at. We saw Javonte go.
Speaker 3 (18:49):
To the yeahboy, Yeah, Javonte's out.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
Yeah. I'd like to see them as someone there. I'd
like to see one of those draft. You know, hey,
I'm thinking, I'm thinking running.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
Back in the draft, get that guy locked up on
a rookie deal.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
For three or four years.
Speaker 5 (19:04):
That's why the decisions that the Broncos made and free
agency sets everything up, right.
Speaker 6 (19:10):
Because everyone's one that it's gonna be a tight end.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
Down and running back. Yes to word, we keep everybody
off balanced, so right, draft, But I'm glad they don't
have to look for a quarterback. Yeah, right, for the
last couple of years. I'm happy that they don't.
Speaker 5 (19:27):
But based on the moves, they're setting themselves up in
a position where they can either get the best player
available or decide if they don't like the way the
draft is falling, they can exercise right to kind of
move back because they've addressed certain issues on the defensive.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
Side of the ball.
Speaker 5 (19:44):
Right, as far as the run game is concerned, they
got three guys on all three levels.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
They brought back.
Speaker 6 (19:51):
DJ they got and they got right.
Speaker 5 (19:54):
So you you went out and got your tight end, right,
But unlike you two guys, I still think the bronc
go out and get a tight end. And the draft
and the draft. What you're talking about, Listen to what
I just said. I did not say first of early.
I said go in the draft and.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
Get one, come on, round. I mean, just makes different.
Speaker 5 (20:16):
You can get you can get one third round or
the Broncos got three six round picks.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
Three okay, Nick, But if we get one in the
first round, that means a little bit more.
Speaker 5 (20:27):
I'm not suggesting that, no, I'm just saying, based on
what they did defensively and getting a tight end, they
now have options and going through.
Speaker 6 (20:35):
The draft, yes, you're gonna need to get another.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Say that they're gonna get a tight end. You gotta
you gotta get more context.
Speaker 6 (20:42):
With that, Okay, I mean, okay, I'll get more context
with it in this draft.
Speaker 5 (20:46):
The Broncos out the first round, they're gonna need another
tight end.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
What if Tyler warrens there in the first round with
the Broncos pick, You're taking him in the first round,
even though you just paid all this money to George,
paying to Nick Ferguson, You Nick Ferguson. Yeah, hell yeah, yeah,
see I would too. I don't think he's gonna be there.
It's funny, but if you can warn you could go
to twelve personnel.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
All day long, people crazy. Yeah, I'd be down for that.
Speaker 5 (21:14):
Okay, look at it this way, Steve, you play safety.
So I'm thinking about old throwback Pittsburgh Steelers that they
would get in twelve and thirteen personnel, and teams are
trying to figure out, well, should we be in subpackage
or should we be in base package?
Speaker 2 (21:28):
Okay, now they gonna have an opportunity because they're.
Speaker 5 (21:30):
Playing thirteen personnel twelve paper boys. Yes, they got big
boys that can run, that can threaten the vertical scene.
So now they in a position where they can run
or pass. That's options. Yeah, that's that's the way that
I'm looking at. Let's get a little news school and
that little old school too. That's all I'm saying, Ronnie.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
That's that's as possible it's possible. I don't see us
going tight end first round. No, no, tight end that
first round. No, No, it's just war. He's a exception
to the rope. Yes, if he's there, But you're not
taking Colston Loveland pick twenty. No, I'm getting back. I'll
move back. Yeah, I think so too. I'll move back
(22:11):
at that point.
Speaker 5 (22:12):
But I will say the Broncos are in need of
a running back and adding a wide receiver to the
mix only spices it up.
Speaker 6 (22:19):
I know they got Trey shefrew right.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
They asked a question, Okay, in this day and age,
would you draft a running back in the first round?
Speaker 8 (22:26):
Yes, it depends here, depends on who he is Hampton, Yes, yes,
Ohio saying he's a first.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
Rounder for you too. Yes, not for me? Why not
not a pick twenty you, Ohio guy. I'm not say
I'm a higher university. That's why he does.
Speaker 6 (22:50):
I'm meaning you know, I do like him, Ohio, Yes,
and I.
Speaker 1 (22:54):
Do like him as a player, but I don't think
he's a He's a top twenty, top twenty first round pick.
Speaker 5 (22:58):
He could be this year's for any team. Zamior Gibbs
from the Detroit.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Lions and what they took him like ten or something. Yeah,
they took him early. Yeah, and everyone was like, oh,
you don't take it running back that high.
Speaker 5 (23:11):
I mean, don't you know the state of the NFL? Well,
I guess what. You look at his stats off the charts.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
And hasn't that narrative completely shifted after the last year's
free agency moves with Derrick Henry and Taquan No.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
Not for a lot of people.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
No, Nope, as Joe said, well, talk about outliers and
the nextceptions to a role.
Speaker 2 (23:32):
That's bad. What an idiot? That guy still have a job.
I don't understand it.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
Like as quick as the NFL is to fire people nowadays,
especially front office head coaches and gms, after all that
ghosts public.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
How does he keep his job? And John maher.
Speaker 5 (23:48):
Said, hey, look, Manquan is one of our most important players,
fan favorite.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
He didn't say one off, he said to the Yeah,
he's like.
Speaker 5 (23:57):
I would lose sleep if he ends up went to Philadelphia. Say,
Quan not only winning Philadelphia, he won a super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
And he got paid more money. How about that, man?
How about when they didn't even have.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
To pay him and they just are like, hey, we're
gonna make you the most the best, most well paid
running back of all time in the NFL running an organization.
Speaker 5 (24:18):
Yeah, so you how if you are Joe Shane, how
would that first draft meeting goes with John Marr?
Speaker 2 (24:26):
How did that go? Ractice manage? Like, my credibility is
in there? Yeah, like.
Speaker 6 (24:34):
You have to because you let a guy go.
Speaker 5 (24:36):
He wons the Super Bowl and Joel mar is probably
thinking that could have been us.
Speaker 1 (24:41):
And not just won a super Bowl, But what's the
reason that team. He's the reason that team won the
Super Bowl. Like Bay, I don't think the Eagles are
making that run.
Speaker 4 (24:52):
Yeah, he was a missing piece, right, He's a missing
peace for the Eagles.
Speaker 5 (24:56):
So what we have definitely agreed to collect is that
run recolition is important, exactly exactly. Unfortunately, the thirty two
teams and not even one things to same.
Speaker 6 (25:10):
We know Philly thinks the same, we know Baltimore things
the same. How many of the teams things the same way?
Speaker 1 (25:16):
Well, if the running back usage last year was any
indication for the Broncos, just you know, from an outside
perspective thirty thousand foot view, does not seem that they
feel that way.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
I bet they feel that way now because of what
happened around the league.
Speaker 6 (25:32):
You bet your backside.
Speaker 1 (25:33):
So you think they would realistically take one of those
three running backs in the first round if they're there.
Speaker 8 (25:38):
You always put the necessary pieces in place, and that
could be our messing piece.
Speaker 5 (25:43):
That could be the missing piece right right there, because
think about what is really the only.
Speaker 2 (25:47):
Thing we're missing?
Speaker 1 (25:48):
Yes, which is so crazy because two years ago we
had a lot of holes in the Yeah, we had
we did, and now we have working depth.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
Our line is straight, old line is nice, and that's man.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
He took a lot of he took a lot of
heat for a couple of years, but he is damn
good at his job.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (26:08):
Yeah, he's one of those guys right as we had
these conversations that would never gets his props as though
others are being provided.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
Well, it doesn't seek out the lot in the limelight ever.
Speaker 6 (26:20):
Oh that's not who he is.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
He's fine with being behind the scenes. He's like, let Sean.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
Payton take the credit and I'll keep building this roster
from from behind the behind the main screen.
Speaker 5 (26:29):
Like the guy from a Wizard of ooss right, the
guy behind the curve.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
He just put it all together.
Speaker 6 (26:38):
And the Broncos now are on their yellow brick road.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
Follow the yellow brick. They're trying to get the odds
to see Wicked. I haven't seen it yet. Worth the watch.
I'm not a big musical guy, but very entertaining.
Speaker 6 (26:54):
He's not like a long movie.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
It's as long as hell. Oh yeah, I know, I'm
not watching.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
That studio along with Nick Ferguson kaa common spirit held
text line five six six nine zero A couple of
people weighing in on the tight end position from the seven.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
To one nine.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
This draft is so deep with tight ends and running backs.
You gotta take at least one of each.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
M See, I don't know who that Texan is, but
they think it just like me Texan earlier.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Yeah, that's.
Speaker 6 (27:30):
Here Texan is.
Speaker 4 (27:31):
You agree with this?
Speaker 5 (27:32):
But hold on, man, that's something about Benjamin Oldbridy Ryan
and Day.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
Also for the seven, one nine, what type of running
back to Sean Payton?
Speaker 5 (27:43):
Like?
Speaker 1 (27:44):
Is there anyone in this draft comparable to TD? Number
thirties running stock?
Speaker 5 (27:49):
Mmmm?
Speaker 2 (27:51):
Comparable? What's crazy is what TD? What wasn't draft? Sixth rounder,
six round.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
Great running? We saw it right right when he was
in training camp. Man his rookie year, Like, man, what's
this guy here? This guy can run the round?
Speaker 5 (28:08):
And you know what the biggest thing too, it's it's
not when you go where you go. And even though
TD was a sixth rounder and he took that short
career became a Hall of famer. Just imagine if TD
went to Dallas, right, it doesn't work out being in
that outside inside zone. You know, scheme helped him out
(28:29):
because TD was really patient. He allowed his blocks to
set themselves up. And when you think about young running backs,
that's the biggest problem running back coaches have is because
as soon as you hand it off to him, get
ready to go, but they now have to wait. And
for me, it was the crow hop. And basically what
the crow hop is, it's just kind of like a
(28:50):
two step in the dance and you're allowing that guard
to pull and get around in front of.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
You and then you go. So I mean you do
have some balance. T was a nice round he went.
Man TV was the real thing.
Speaker 6 (29:01):
But I'm not saying that he wouldn't have been nice
wherever he went.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
But he was in the perfect fit here, Yes it was.
It's about the perfect fit, because no, I think.
Speaker 4 (29:09):
It's about the opportunity that the coaches will the coaches
give you a legitimate opportunity or not.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
I think he could have played any offense. So let
me ask you this then, because of come on, I mean.
Speaker 5 (29:21):
He could Okay, he could have played in any offense.
But the question is what the numbers he put in
of Famer with what they have been the same games
where he runs for two thousand yards.
Speaker 6 (29:32):
I don't I don't think so he was in.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
The perfect system. He disagrees Steve Man TD was dope.
I turned on the games.
Speaker 4 (29:42):
I'm like, damn, what the t TV was the real
deal man. I don't care what system you put him in.
He's gonna make He's gonna get those yards. Man, I'm
telling you, man.
Speaker 6 (29:51):
He gets those yards.
Speaker 5 (29:53):
But but I don't think he gets in two thousand
because think about it, what we're talking about, Steve is
what the Broncos wished for and they haven't had for
the past couple of years since Mike.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
Shanahan was the head coach. And that means because when we.
Speaker 5 (30:07):
Said, well the running backs have success because last year
everyone blamed the running backs, but it is everyone doing
their job, from the play calling to the offensive line,
but more importantly, the wide receivers. When you when you
when you played and TV was here, you had Rod
and you had EMM McCaffrey who were willing to go
down the field and block. It's the same reason why
(30:27):
the Broncos went out and got Trent Shirfield because it's like, well,
he could be our special team's ace and then also
maybe he.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
Can block more so you're gonna have to. Well that's
their philosophy. Come on, man, that's gonna be the philosophy.
Speaker 9 (30:41):
The receivers they obviously a big, big part, you know,
massive part.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
But if you.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
Don't have that dog in you and you can't run
through tackles and have it doing defensive back don't want
to tackle you, you're not gonna get a yards.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
This stat from Zach Seegers, our producer, TD third and
rushing yards per game in NFL history.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
Come on, man, behind Barry Sanders and Jim Brown. It
ain't the system. Bro help BROA.
Speaker 9 (31:08):
The system helps the system.
Speaker 5 (31:12):
I'm not saying that the system was the only thing
that helped t d TD's.
Speaker 6 (31:16):
Visions, his patience, his explosion.
Speaker 9 (31:19):
But being able to outland this dude used to be
on Wednesdays because he wrest so hard he even have headaches.
He'd be in the training room and we'll be walking
by like a TV aday.
Speaker 2 (31:33):
You don't need you need to right be ready for
game day.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
Well maybe we'll that Nick be more wrong on this
topic after the break, but we.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
Gotta hit break, Steve. This was a lot of fun, man.
It's always be here with you, tal Man. I'm not
saying he's not any office. I'm just saying Slex.
Speaker 5 (31:50):
Gives Mike, saying him with the perfect fit for him.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
That's all I'm saying, like a glove, we'll be right
back after this break. Broncors during n K A n
