Speaker 1 (00:00):
Robb Dawson back there behind the glass to it. Something
looks like he's up to something.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Then rob always looked like he's like investigating something at
all times.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
That's because he is our investigative journal he is. He's
a great he's great at it.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
I'm just worried I messed up my taxes or something.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
He's about the bust being for it.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
We're doing some investigation on a March Madness story that
is going to be very cool.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
That we're now.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
I was worried I was gonna get Jimmy Carter out
here or whatever. But uh, and there's like three people
listening to get that reference. But you guys know who
Jimmy Carr is, the British comedian.
Speaker 4 (00:25):
No thought, for a second, I thought you said, Jimmy Carter.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
I'm not like I know Jimmy Carter.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
No, I give up my peanut farm. But you know no,
it's uh, no, I have started Jimmy Carr the comedian. Wait,
Jimmy Carter did die right, yes?
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Yes, okay, yeah, I didn't want to kill him before he.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Right right now he risted beat. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
There was five six sixth ninth serials. The text line
my goodness, we're terrible. I I'll get text coming in here.
Let's see you're three or three says I've been listen
to the show every night from Fort Mills, South Carolina. Mills,
shout out Fort Mill. I was down there, South Carolina
once at Fort Jackson, So.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
Thank you for all your insight.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Do you guys think the Broncos will have a running
back and free agency or double different the draft?
Speaker 1 (01:06):
If so, could you see them pursuing JK. Dobbins. I
like it. I'm not opposed to it.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
I think I don't think i'd say priority for them,
but I think that falls in their lap on a
super middleum tight deal, like I could see them absolutely
snapping JK up.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
I can see that happening if JK is still out
there as a free agent as the Broncos get closer
to the draft, because now what that number was going
to be at the start of free agency its drastically
gone down tremendously, so the Broncos can definitely kick the
tires on it if the price is right.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Okay, is the price right? One dollar? Bob oh wait,
I said.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
Who is this still Drew carrying the prices Drew carry
carry it is true Carry and the actual retail Prices Crack.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Research team back there you a plank oman. Grant looks
like he's a planko.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:55):
I do what I can for the show SHOWK showed
up the price is wrong. Do you know the guy
who played Jesse Pinkmin on Breaking Bad? Was it contestant?
Was it contestant on the Prices?
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Right? That? What's up? Like back in the day, he
was all baby faced into the short haired it.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
I remember watching that show as a kid and being like,
who in the hell would want to win an appliance?
Speaker 1 (02:15):
Now I'm an adult and I'm like, give me that Mike.
Speaker 6 (02:17):
Way right now?
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Well, apparently so my grandma used to babysit me a
lot when I was very young, right, and apparently my
first like actual phrase was come on down. That was
like the first phrase that I said I could say
as as a baby cold because my grandma watched a
whole lot of Prices, right, Apparently.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
That's all you could watch back in the day if
you had the day off school.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
It was like mariy Povich and Prices. I'm talking about
I was super tighty, Like, I was like very very
young at this point. I weren't finding out who the
dad was. I wasn't in school now, I wasn't. Maury
Povich came after that. You're you're younger. Maury Povitch was
not around. I didn't think Phil no I went around
at that point like Phil Donna. He wasn't around at
that point. I don't even know who Phil Donahue is.
Oh my god, Rob, get that there. Stop you're investigating
(02:57):
right now to investigator. This man doesn't know who Phil dotted.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
He would.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Yes, who, Oh my god, I'm old. What are you
gonna do with you?
Speaker 3 (03:08):
Man?
Speaker 1 (03:08):
How do you know Phil Donahue is. I'm not an old.
I'm sorry, guys. Rob donn the dad of Iron Man.
Oh oh my god. Oh I hated Morton Downy Morton Donnie.
(03:30):
You know I'm talking about Morton.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
You know, if they go screaming television. He pioneered like
the trash TV format. Come on, Grant Man, he watched
so Maury could swim.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
I'm just run. I'm just saying say right it was man.
Those are the shows back in the day. That was
back when Oprah would have like some crazy you know,
before the Oprah like tried decided to class up Oprah.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
Yes, she used to have some trashy guests back in
the day to see see the show for me was
back in the day? Was h Chuck will Oh you're
back getting.
Speaker 7 (04:03):
Man?
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Gret tell me you know who woo is?
Speaker 3 (04:08):
Sorry to disappointment man. Sounds like he had a good catchphrase. Yes,
the Dating Game, Man Love Connection.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Rob Dawson said, man, yeah, dating Game, same same game,
all those shows. Yes, you probably don't even remember the
MTV rip.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Offs of those shows like Singled Out sing I remember
the one on the bus.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
What was that where they brought the three people out
on the bus or the bus? Yeah, I think I
think that's an adult yeah something. I don't know what
that is. I'm pretty sure that's about was that taxicab
from Confessions that look it up Jason hip Bell spoofing that?
Speaker 2 (04:49):
But yes, over here, Oh, we're way off, way off
topic as far as the stuff goes.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
You're supposed to be talking about CEU.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
And you bone it for the spring game, and we
talked that. We touched on a little bit earlier in
the show. The text rolling in I missed our City all.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
Yes, yes, don my god, you know what really quickly
see that's where classic TV was classic, and kids growing
up today they have no idea how great that was
going on.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
There playing the saxophone or whatever that might have won
him the presidency.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
To the only reason that was those are classics is
because that was the only option you had was to
watch those shows. You literally had zero other options we did,
so you had to watch. Cable had been invented at
that point. Of course, she's got cable TV. I don't
(05:49):
know who you said, Donahue.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Like he was like he was like going politics. It
was like red face and screaming it him and more
just screaming at people.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
Yes, oh my god, we got ex during the break.
You got to watch some more. Do just to you
so you can understand just how awful that stuff was.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Oh that he was loud too and over the screaming at.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
People, absolutely ridiculous. Anyway, See, you try to get to this, Gola.
You you liked the idea of having to spring opponent.
This is this is pioneering something.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
Here, it is and I love it because it gives
you more opportunity to evaluate talent. Because when we think
about what college football is now with the nil being
able to evaluate the talent that you have coming in
that's interestant and valuation, and you can say, hey, look
after the spring game of this joint practice, if you
(06:49):
want some guys to pack it up, pack it in,
let us begin. Then that is a perfect way to
kind of move those guys out and bring more guys in.
So it gives you more film to evaluate against real
competition that you're going to play against.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
Is there any downside of this, like, because this is
the first thing I'm thinking of, like when they started them,
Like why hasn't somebody.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
Done this before? But because most teams save the spring game.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
As something they were doing for their own individual team
and then bite the alumni out and fans and all
of that. But this is a way to take it
to a whole different lover like last year, like Prim's
first year, that was the first time they sold out
somewhat of a spring game.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
You remember it was Cole espnkame.
Speaker 4 (07:37):
So with a lot of college teams doing your way
with the spring game, this is a better way to
enhance it.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Right, so you get butts in the seats, so you
preview your team. I see the upside, right, I totally
see the upside. But I'm saying, it's like, why has
no one done this before, because.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
It feels like a no downside move that does nothing
but improves you know what it is that you're doing
during the spring. You know, you a chance to kind
of cross compete and shake things up a little bit,
probably a chance to raise more money. You could probably
get more people to the spring game and charge for
it than you would have been able to if it's
just your guys exactly.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
But I think from a collegiate standpoint, teams have been
opposed to the one because it had never been done before,
and then also wanting to step away as far as
you can from things that the NFL are doing. And
obviously you think about the element of injury, but that's
always something that's prevalent.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
But there's a way you can do it.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
You have you control the scrimmages, you control nine o seven,
You control team and situation of football. Third down, here's
your third down pier, here's our fourth down pier. Here's
your goal line pier. Just think about how well Shadors
Sanders might have played behind that CuO lin had this
been done for him in the two years he was there.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Got Rubby Bean coming abom and they will get a
chance to talk to her about that. Did Coach Prime
have to be the one to introduce this? Like at
this point, whatever you think of his coaching acumen, whatever
you think of where the program stands, whatever, it feels
like he's the guy who keeps bringing innovation to college football.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
Well, this is why I call it the Coach Prime effect.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
This is why some collegiate coaches don't like coach Prime because.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
There may be an idea that may not necessarily come
from Prime himself.
Speaker 4 (09:21):
It may be come from in the framework of his
coaching staff, but now he is the mouthpiece four. And
then teams of coaches get upset because they go, damn,
we didn't think of that.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
And that's the thing, because I literally sat there today
like why has no one thought of this before? How
did I not think of this before? Like why why
has nobody brought this up? And I mean nobody because.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
We were so glued to the old traditional way of
doing it, the fifteen practice, the crescendo, the celebrate that.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
On that Saturday. It is a spring game, so we
couldn't see it's.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
A great white game what they call, you know gold
whatever you know I'm sure they was a Golden Black
game whatever you know exactly.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
So this, once again, this is a controlled environment. You
can make sure, to the best of your knowledge, players
don't get hurt because now you can blow the whistle.
You may not have players tackled to the ground, but
you just want to see the offensive lineman and defensive
lineman have an opportunity to get after one another.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
So so I love the concept. I love the idea.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
I wish it would have been this would have taken
place when I played, because once again we're talking about
how can you speed up the maturation process for your players.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Well that was my next question is as a as
a former college football player, was this a ya or
name for you?
Speaker 1 (10:36):
This would be a yeah, hell yay, yeah, okay, hell yeah,
yea yeah, hell yeah, yeah, yeah yeah okay. I mean
I'm looking at this and.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
I'm just like, there's not It's bizarre to me if
there's anything anymore that can be presented that has no downside,
that hasn't been done and yet here we are.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Okay, think about it.
Speaker 4 (10:55):
I mean every year there is the East West Shrine
Game and the aims on and mobile, right, and what
do we.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Hear every single time.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
The practices are more competitive and more valuable than the
game because leave before the game even happens, exactly there
for the practice. So now you give scouts an opportunity
to go on out and see something.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
Go, Okay, there you go. I mean, I'm I'm with it.
I'm one hundred percent with it.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
It's just it's just it's absolutely in the In the
moment that I was reading this is this was sort
of the story sort of breaking today and I'm reading
this and I'm like, I'm floored by the fact that
nobody's thought of this before, because this is ridiculously simple.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
It doesn't take much.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
I mean, you could do a home at home, you know,
kind of we're gonna do a spring game home and
home kind of thing, and uh and and that way,
you know, we get to be paid for.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
And now you make it a big thing. That's what
I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
It becomes an event and you can charge for this
and you're gonna I mean, it's it's it's a money
maker that costs you nothing to put on someone's don't
want to put it on television.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Yeah, well yes, then two is put this game on television.
God there to go there. It is right there.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
So I'm just saying like I'm not I'm not trying
to sit here and uh, you know and Genu the
altar of it. You know, I'm just like, this is
a great idea that should have already been done. And
how did Nick Saban not think of this year's ago?
Speaker 4 (12:06):
Because Nick Saban was so in to think of it,
thinking Okay, well we're Bama.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
We don't have to you don't need that, Okay, I
mean I don't have to recruit.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
I think that that's a thing like like the smaller
schools will be the ones or I say smaller schools,
but see here's not you know, they're not a blue blood.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
Do you think that the innovation has to occur at those.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
Universities because the others are so entrenched in the identity
of I am who I am the Ohio states.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
Like, we don't have to do that. Well, well, there
are going to be some blue bloods and some.
Speaker 4 (12:34):
Coaches that say, well, we don't really need to do
that because our program is where it is. But looking
at it from a player evaluation standpoint, in the NFL standpoint,
coaches and scouts should love this. They should love this
because how many times do we hear about a guy
coming into the league. We hear two things, either he
doesn't have enough tread on the tire or all the
(12:57):
tread is gone right right.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
So it gives you an opportunity.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
To see these guys actually work and see how they
are improving. So when you go back to your clubs,
you can start that early evaluation and you can critique
them from this particular standpoint, like what we saw in
the spring game and the joint practices versus an Alabama.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
Well, I just think it's inherently more valuable to have
tape of people throwing things at you that you don't
you haven't seen from guys you haven't seen, because you're
going to be more reactive, and that's going to that's
that's a greater tell tale of who and what you
are than going up against the same guy for twenty
straight days and just you know, Okay, I know how
this guy runs, I know how he gets off the line,
I know how you know that kind of stuff. Like,
I just feel like it's I feel like it's better
(13:37):
all the way around in terms of being able to assess.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
So now some players may not like it, because like
in my time, you sign a scholarship, you've got four years.
But now the landscape has changed. So now that player
who would normally be able to stash himself on the
roster and hide.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
Four years, you can't hide any more and more. No, no, no,
now we know what you are. Right.
Speaker 4 (13:58):
You're playing against elite competition outside SEC big big, Big twelve,
big ten. Now we get a chance to really see
you before we ever lace them up for opening day kickoff.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
Like the Boozy used to hide when Jerry Judy first
got here.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
Yes, we're going through the corner and the wide receive
rotation that we say count and hey, go ahead real quick,
I have time my shoe.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
It's like yes, yes, yeah, now you avoid all of that.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
You could see it happened to practice because there used
to be the uh they were all the horizonal feels
before and you see it rap it right in front
of your dude.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
It's be like, oh, I gotta uh, I gotta fix
my pad here real quick.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
Yes, all that stuff is very true, but here's a slight.
There's some pros and and cars to it. Because guys
who may have marginal n IO deals, haven't I opportunity
to escimate their deal.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
Based on that joint practical right, But then you've got
guys with full on an aisle deals. How many of
them dudes are really going to go all out there
you go to spring.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
I'm not trying to mess up up process of elimination
fair enough.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
I like the idea. Roby Bean's gonna join us here
in just a few after we back from break.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
A couple of texts here on the text line love connection,
not the dating game.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
There's two one forces. I remember when MTV actually showed
music videos me too.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
I remember that to see four or four eighty truth
that Broncos could double dip it running back in the draft.
Ohio State's Henderson and Judkins would be a great duo.
Maybe trade back in the first they give a couple
of scenarios there.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
That's a great room. I mean it's possible.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
I don't know that they're gonna double dip in the
draft per se, but maybe Draft plus eight.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
And undrafted free agent could I think could be more likely. Yeah,
I like that concept because it's all about adding depth.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
Like, if you think that the Broncos have enough to
get through an obdurous season.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
You got another thing coming to you. All you have
to do.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
Look at how San Francisco in the time that they
made to Super Bowl and playoffs, they had multiple running backs.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
Just look at Detroit.
Speaker 4 (15:49):
You're gonna need multiple running backs to get through the season.
And oh, by the way, there is doubt that well,
we don't even you know, there's certain people, not me
with that concept that well, the Broncos really don't have
the stable of running backs. They get them where they
need to. So bring you more competition, which I think
they will do. Uh Ruby b when we come back.
Broncos Country Night KAWE five.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
Six, six nine yearls in text Line had a bunch
of hilarious texts come in on various different topics. One
of the best ones here, though, was from the three
H three sos. Back on the Dave, Rick and Kathy
Afternoon Show. They interviewed our Senio Hall and it turns
out he's a huge Dave Logan fan from his playing days.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
No look that, yeah, really, and you didn't share that
with the group. Come on, man, what are you doingers?
Speaker 3 (16:34):
We're talking about some ancient guy named Bill Donahue, Phil Donna.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
But I'm our Sinew Hall and Bill Clinton playing the
saxophone and you there.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
That's why we could have on this show at any
point in time, this whole time. He's not a Benjamin
Albright fan. He's a Dave Logan. Look, I'm not a
Benjamin all Right fan either. I have to live with
Benjamin Alright every day. Six text.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
Let's go out to Cary Commas Barrels Hotline and bring on.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
Something we are and that's romy being Roman. How are
you doing this evening?
Speaker 6 (17:03):
You know what?
Speaker 8 (17:04):
I feel really good to jump around pung shout out
to Grant. Great way to intro it. And then we
got our cineo halls.
Speaker 9 (17:09):
Feel like it's gonna be a good tech time.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
I feel about it.
Speaker 4 (17:12):
You know what.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
I'm I'm I'm with you. I'm looking up here.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
We Yeah, we did get into a like a trashy
TV talk show saying do you know who Phil Donahue is?
Speaker 1 (17:24):
She's not an old officially officially, Rome, you are not
an old Nick and I just have to have to
continue being old.
Speaker 8 (17:31):
I think I am an old. I'm just an uneducated old.
Speaker 6 (17:34):
It appears, well, this.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
Would be like trash pop culture. So be thankful that
you're you're not educated at least in this we are
educated on today. Is she us looking to do a.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
Spring game with an opponent? And I feel like this
is like a genius move here.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
We've already had reach out publicly on Twitter from Frank
Brown over there at Sarah Hughes about setting this thing up.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
What do you think about the idea of playing an
opponent for the spring game? And why have we done
this before?
Speaker 4 (17:58):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (17:59):
Then, I mean I am all in. I mean this
is it feels like a no brainer. Spring games are
like they're dying out right.
Speaker 8 (18:05):
Matt wools said, you want to get rich of spring games,
and then Dion has what is really just it makes
sense because he's such a pro focused guy. Right, we
see that's one of the best parts about NFL training camps,
not just for the fans but for the players. They're
so sick and tired of hitting each other. You get
an actual look at what you got in your team.
I mean, this feels brilliant and I think this could
(18:26):
completely resurrect spring games, especially now you can see how
many guys are interested. I loved that Fraan Brown immediately
was like, we're down, We'll come from Xyracuse down and
down the Boulder for a few days.
Speaker 10 (18:36):
So I would love to see this happen.
Speaker 8 (18:38):
And you know, even it seemed like Utah or somewhere close,
you know, Texas Tech would make sense, they're close. I
think this would be brilliant.
Speaker 10 (18:45):
I would love to see this happen.
Speaker 8 (18:47):
So I hope they can make this happen.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
Well, really, how excited are you as an individual who
covers the buff and then buff Alum about the transition
that the Buffs are going through? No more, no more
Travis Hunter. They got two young quarterbacks we got from
from Liberty. You got the transfer, you know, Cadence Alter,
and then you got juju like, how inscided could this be?
(19:12):
As we watched this competition quarterback competition at that unfold.
Speaker 8 (19:17):
Yeah, I think I can't wait.
Speaker 6 (19:19):
I think there's so much, you know, curiosity about what
is this fuss.
Speaker 9 (19:23):
Team gonna look like?
Speaker 8 (19:24):
So interesting? Today Prime said he feels like this is
going to be a better all around team.
Speaker 9 (19:29):
Now, you know, objectively, if you just look.
Speaker 6 (19:32):
At that and you say, a team without Shad or Standers,
without Travis Hunter, without all of those receivers, how is
it going to be.
Speaker 9 (19:37):
A better team? But I think you know, because you don't.
Speaker 6 (19:41):
Have Travis and Chador, there's been a lot of work.
Speaker 9 (19:44):
That's been put into shoring up the lines.
Speaker 8 (19:46):
Bring in Marshall Fault for the first time. I have
a lot of faith that they're gonna run the dang
ball guys, So I think it's gonna look totally different
and I'm really excited to see what this looks like.
You like the coaching guys that brought in. Of course,
Joe's tapeco is such a joy to cover when he
was with the Broncos. I'm excited to see him kind
of elevate into this coaching role. So I just think
(20:06):
it continued the excitement because it's going to be a
totally different.
Speaker 6 (20:11):
Bus team and excited to see what that looks like.
Speaker 8 (20:13):
And of course with Prime now he's just the coach.
Speaker 9 (20:15):
He's not wearing the dad hat as well.
Speaker 6 (20:17):
So I think there's a lot of newness that is
going to come with this season and that makes it
really exciting.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
Thomas Robby Bean from CBS Broncos made some moves.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
Two on the defensive side of the ball, one on
the offense, one on special teams. You know, you got Tofonga,
you got Drake Greenlaw. Both those guys figure to add
and edge or a bite to the defense. You gotta
have an Ingram who people are gushing about probably plays
the big slot there for the Broncos. And then the
move that I thought was the most fascinating is the
one that's the least covered or least talked about is
Trent Sherfield in terms of what he brings the tail.
If you watch this guy on tape, he's an absolute
(20:48):
dog when it comes to blocking people out of the
receiver position, and he plays special teams you know, as
a gunner and all that kind of stuff as well.
Everybody I talked to who used to play with him
calls him a glue guy. Great in the locker room.
What did you think of the Broncos free agent hall
so far?
Speaker 8 (21:01):
Yeah, I mean, you know, I was talking about this today,
but I keep him in a so far. Obviously, you've
got a lot of guys coming.
Speaker 9 (21:07):
Off injury, so that's always a.
Speaker 6 (21:08):
Question mark, you know, and I but if they are healthy,
I think they knocked it out of the park.
Speaker 8 (21:14):
Because free agency is about filling need so that you
can go into the draft and you can get that
player available. And now they're in the position to do that.
And defensively, I'm so excited. I mean, anyone who knows
you knows that I'm a defensive gal.
Speaker 6 (21:28):
Like twenty fifteen was the best year of my life,
you know, being able to watch that defense.
Speaker 10 (21:32):
But I love Dre greenlot.
Speaker 8 (21:35):
Finally feels like, for the first time, honestly, since Danny Travason,
you have got a dog at inside linebacker, and I think,
if healthy, he can be just an absolutely incredible addition.
And I don't think the Broncos have had a linebacker
inside linebacker of that caliber really again since Danny Travason.
So really excited about that. And it's safety as well.
Speaker 6 (21:57):
You know, I heard they call him Huff. Is this true?
Speaker 9 (22:00):
This is my name Huff?
Speaker 1 (22:02):
Yeah, well, yeah, Huff for Huffy. But I don't think.
I don't think fans are gonna be calling hi Huffy
anytime soon.
Speaker 8 (22:08):
But but you know, again, his his style will play
a little bit Polamalu reminiscent.
Speaker 9 (22:14):
And and you know, I love t J. Lockey's a
great guy.
Speaker 6 (22:16):
But I think this is a huge addition in the
safety position. And now you look at at the secondary
and it is just such a rock solid secondary, and they.
Speaker 9 (22:26):
Can't wait to see what they do.
Speaker 8 (22:28):
In terms of locking up receivers, locking up tight ends
back there.
Speaker 6 (22:31):
I think this is going to be such a potent defense.
Speaker 8 (22:34):
And so the question again then lies with the offense.
And you've got Ingram from tight end. I don't think
that means that they're not going to take a tight
end in free agency. Obviously Ingram's a little bit older,
but I think he's.
Speaker 10 (22:45):
A huge addition.
Speaker 9 (22:46):
And you mentioned shirt Fields as well.
Speaker 8 (22:49):
I just feel like they really knocked it out of
the park and it's it's a good time. It feels
like I was saying to somebody, Yeah.
Speaker 10 (22:55):
This this was like, this is the Denver Broncos, right,
we got I'm so used to the Broncos making these
moves in free agency and loading up to make themselves
really contending for playoffs and hopefully to.
Speaker 8 (23:08):
Get to that you know, super Bowl at some point.
Speaker 9 (23:10):
And it feels like, yeah, you know, the Broncos are
all the way back. That's what it feels like.
Speaker 8 (23:15):
I got really excited about this free agency hall.
Speaker 4 (23:17):
So, speaking of dogs Herd, let's talk about Van Joseph
and what he was able to do last year. When
I'm not going to say a limited roster, but he
didn't have these additions that you just spoke about.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
But now you got.
Speaker 4 (23:31):
Guys on the second level in green Law and Ufongo
on the third level.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
What do you think or what do you think that
this defense can actually get to this season?
Speaker 8 (23:40):
I mean when I look at this defense now that
I don't see any holes in this defense. Personally, I
think that they've they really kind of checked all of
the boxes and.
Speaker 10 (23:50):
I think this can be the interesting thing the past.
Speaker 6 (23:53):
Two seasons with Shallot Vans Joseph, but.
Speaker 8 (23:56):
With his defenses, they've had a great ties where they've been,
you know, top five in all these categories, and then
they've had dips. It was kind of the opposite, right
that two years ago it was the really rough start
and then they picked it up. And then last year
towards the end of the season, we saw a drop
off in certain areas. So now they've got all the
pieces and refinding DJ Jones I think was huge continuity
(24:18):
up front, it was just enormous, absolutely.
Speaker 6 (24:21):
Enormous, and of course those.
Speaker 9 (24:22):
Guys to allow the d rushers to do their thing.
Speaker 8 (24:25):
Now, I think my expectations is that this defense will
carry this team in many games.
Speaker 6 (24:31):
I don't expect both to have a sophomore slump.
Speaker 8 (24:34):
But you know, the NFL is a tough game and
teams get tape on you and who knows.
Speaker 10 (24:39):
I didn't really expect MEJ.
Speaker 9 (24:40):
Shroud to have a softmore slump, right so, but I
think this is going.
Speaker 7 (24:43):
To give that breathing room if that does happen, even
though I do think the offense has added some more
pieces as well.
Speaker 8 (24:50):
But I expect this defense to be an incredibly dominant
defense that just is top top five, top ten, no
not top ten, right points, sacked everything, There's no reason
they wouldn't be. I think the secondary is just going
to be an absolute nightmare and that's going to allow
the guys up front, of course, to wreak have it
(25:10):
as well.
Speaker 6 (25:11):
So I'm going in with really high expectations for.
Speaker 8 (25:14):
This unit because I don't see gaps. I don't see
I feel like they've checked every box.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
So yeah, we'll go talking with romy Bean from CBS
for me.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
Obviously they were not in on Cooper Cupp or Deebo
Samuel despite some reports out there, But is there anybody
that you felt like that maybe the Broncos should have
been in on.
Speaker 8 (25:34):
You know, I was completely fine with them not being
in on Cooper Cup. You know, for the money that
didn't that one didn't resonate with me.
Speaker 6 (25:42):
I didn't have I thought the price tag was way
too high for that.
Speaker 8 (25:47):
And to be honest, no, I mean I feel I feel.
Speaker 7 (25:51):
Good about the position they've put themselves in. Of course,
the big one, now, the big that has a circle around.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
It is running back.
Speaker 8 (25:57):
But I think you go into the draft.
Speaker 6 (25:59):
In this is just there's a fantastic there's so many
options and there's you know, everybody's talking about.
Speaker 8 (26:05):
Genti'd be great if he was around, but look they Hampton.
I think, you know, Sampson could be able to just
fit Henderson. I think there's so many options of running.
Speaker 6 (26:13):
Back, and they put themselves in a position to really
get some guys. I think wide receiver get some guys
in that position as well.
Speaker 8 (26:21):
But there's nobody that I was left saying, oh.
Speaker 6 (26:23):
Man, I really wish they got that guy.
Speaker 9 (26:26):
And I think the Evan Ingram deal was was kind
of a big deal in the sense that he went
over to the Chargers basically out for the same amount
of money and said, no, I want to be.
Speaker 8 (26:36):
With the Broncos, right, So that kind of goes back
to what I was saying, where that's that's.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
What the expectation used to be.
Speaker 6 (26:43):
People wanted to come play for the Broncos, and they
do because I think that they're.
Speaker 8 (26:47):
Which is great.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
Right.
Speaker 8 (26:47):
That speaks to the culture and everything.
Speaker 6 (26:49):
And I'm feel good about it. Guys, I got zero complaints.
Speaker 4 (26:53):
Oh, Romie, I have to ask you because we are
in the month of March and everyone is filling out brackets.
Ben has us doing exercise later on where we're filling
out a bracket. I typically don't, but I'm sure that
being as glue as you are, you filled out the
bracket really quickly.
Speaker 1 (27:13):
I mean, do you know who you might have in
your final four?
Speaker 9 (27:18):
You know, guys, I like I like Florida, I like
the Gatis.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
I like Florida, I like.
Speaker 6 (27:23):
I like Houston. I don't have a four yet.
Speaker 9 (27:28):
I haven't made my bracket yet.
Speaker 1 (27:29):
Oh, you have a major bracket.
Speaker 8 (27:32):
But those will be three of my final four.
Speaker 1 (27:35):
Well, what I think you have a shame clip on
stand up there?
Speaker 4 (27:39):
So two of I think two or three of the
teams that you threw out there. Ben is now saying
that you know what, I got those same teams.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
They're literally right here in this finish. I can't see
that it's a finished bracket. Well that's what I was saying.
I just I got my actually texted role Mete got
all her picks and put him down.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
That's that's now it makes sense.
Speaker 4 (27:57):
Now I get it.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
I get it. Now.
Speaker 6 (27:59):
I'm going to do my.
Speaker 8 (28:00):
Bracket this year is I'm gonna go and I'm gonna
just ask people on the street, because those are the
best brackets.
Speaker 6 (28:05):
Yeah, or work you put it into your bracket the
worst it ends up fair point, that's fair.
Speaker 1 (28:10):
It is just facts science.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
You get around that time with romy being here, uh Rommy,
you know Nuggets Nuggets a little short handed today.
Speaker 1 (28:17):
I wish I would have known that we're doing show
the money.
Speaker 6 (28:20):
That's rolling out of light up.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
It doesn't have you'll get your Murray or anybody. Yeah,
how is this Nuggets team gonna hold up down to
stretch here?
Speaker 1 (28:29):
And and it is this cause for concern?
Speaker 6 (28:32):
Well, you know, I feel like at the end of
the day, all that matters is that this team is
healthy when they get to the playoffs.
Speaker 8 (28:39):
I think yo kitchen Murray sitting big picture not a
big deal. It's a little hard coming off as lost
to the Wizards, one of the worst teams in the NBA.
That makes it a little bit harder. But then you
see Christian Brown's also out, and I think big picture helpes,
all that matters when it when it gets the playoffs,
So you know, I think the expectation, But you.
Speaker 7 (29:01):
Know, the Nuggets are funny, like this could be that
this funny game like in Utah when they're like seven guys.
Speaker 8 (29:06):
And they go out and win, and they get up
for this game, and gluten state is red hot right now.
But at the end of the day, the nugget's gotta
be healthy. So if if you got to sit him,
you gotta sit him.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
Rommie, We we appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (29:20):
Got to run here, but we appreciate you joining us
as always and look forward to talking to you again.
Speaker 1 (29:24):
Maybe next week.
Speaker 9 (29:25):
Yeah, I appreciate you guys.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
Absolutely take care romy b. CBS always love having her
on the show.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
Yet now gets a little a little short handed lineup
that they rolled out there to start.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
Not not exactly a murderer's row.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
Obviously Westbrook gonna be starting at the point, but with
Christian Brawn out Jamal Murriott and nicolea Jokic out tonight.
You've got Aaron Gordon manning the center, Porter Junior playing
the four. Tyson I think is starting just not exactly
a murderer's row line up there for the Denver Nuggets.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
You know what, but Rommy Mitch is something that I
remember when the team went up to Utah shorthanded and
they were able to steal the win. And you really
want to press the buns on your team, especially this
time of the year, to see can they.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
Elevate thell liver play.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
If the Nuggets able to pull this one off, a
it's great, but if they're not, once again, you get very,
very unique with your rotation as far as placing guys
in uncomfortable positions. But now, for me, I'm a firm
believer that that may end up helping the Nuggets opposed
to hurting them, because it gives coach Malone different lineups
(30:35):
that he can kind of mix a.
Speaker 2 (30:37):
Match with, maybe some additional minutes to look at a
guy like all right, I can get that guy involved
in the lineup tonight.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
By the way, he is Russell Westbrook.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
You got Tyson at the two card Watson at the
three Porter juniors playing the power forward and Gordon playing
the five.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
That's a small ball lineup if I've ever seen one,
it is.
Speaker 4 (30:54):
But once again, coach Malone is going to have to
at some point switch the small all lining up, especially
when you're seeing Jamal and you're resting the Kolakis.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
Is there anything? Uh?
Speaker 2 (31:06):
Well, As I was looking at this, I'm like, really,
we're starting to Tyson at the end at the Julian Strawther,
We're going a lot of time.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
We have to do the white guy guard thing.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
Hey look, man, you this the one you came with. Man,
you can't just kind of pick someone different.
Speaker 1 (31:22):
This is their roster. This is what you're dealing with.
Speaker 4 (31:24):
But also it gives a little low management, late season
low management, and the Nuggets want to go into the
playoffs making sure that everyone is healthy and everyone has
plenty times of just in case.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
You get in a situation someone gets hurt. You have
an idea of what you got, Yes, you have an idea.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
How to Tyson Averaging two point two points one point
four boards on the season will be interesting to see.
You can change that tonight, you sure again, you pop
those numbers up tonight so I'm talking about five, six, six,
nine zeros. The text line a couple of texts coming in.
Somebody asked to foe, we like one in seven against
ranked appallents. I guess it's referring to see you several
people saying video killed a radio star talking about MTV.
From the conversation from earlier, and the eight of one
(32:04):
is why is the NFL never gone to a farm
team system like baseball?
Speaker 1 (32:07):
It's because they don't have to. Yeah, it, although I
have to spend the money out, they don't have to.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
They got one college football and oh, by the way,
you get these other people trying to send spend money
to start up spring leagues.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
So it'll help you out too, You don't. You don't
have to. Like, if you're in the NFL, why am
I gonna spend the money? I don't have to. You
need a big dog on the block. Right, everyone's trying.
Everyone's trying to get to where you are, right and
let them come. Yeah, what are they saying? The field
the dream? So you build it, they will come. They
will there you go. I don't know. I built a
liquor log cabin. Nobody came. Well, he more about that
when we come back. Broncos Country Tonight
