Speaker 1 (00:00):
I'm Grant Smith filling in for Benjamin Albright. Well, he
is that a concert? That is a band that he
likes and I've never heard of.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Didn he say? The name of the band is like
the Midnight.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
The Midnight, So check that out if you want to
listen to some music that Ben likes.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
We all know he's got a weird taste.

Speaker 4 (00:19):
Well, with that being said, Grant, most people probably will
not research that group because they don't really like Ben.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Yeah, and I haven't wasted my time with it either.
I'll let that live in the dark.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
For me. I have enough new music to be listening to.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
Man, what a beautiful evening, Blue Skies and the Mile
High City. Didn't expect that this morning when I was
shaking off fall the snow off my trees. We talked
a little bit earlier today prepping for the show and
a short show pre Rockies. We've got Them what KWA
coverage at six point thirty, first pitch of seven twenty
long pregame for the fellas out there at Corsfield and

(00:57):
a cold night tonight. But we were talking earlier today
and he said listen to your wife, and literally right
after I got off the phone with you. She was like,
we need to go shake out the trees of the
snow because they are leaning big time.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
And I was like, no, you.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
Gotta let nature take its course. I was watching the
Pat McAfee show, and as soon as those words came
out of my mouth, yes, huge branch snaps off one
of the trees at our backyard, and I'm like, all right,
let me go put off my snow shoes. We'll go
clean off the snow off the trees. But now it's
you couldn't even tell it snowed in Denver today.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
No, no you can't.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
And see, see that is God's way of keeping us
in line.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
It felt like divine intervention in the moment was.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
Because I said to you, listen to your wife. She
made a suggestion. You wanted to wait and pause, and
then divine intervention said, well, gret, you might want to
get your butt out there and sake those that snow
off those trees.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
And that's how I spent the rest of my morning
was shaking the snow off the trees. And she texted
me up make sure a little bit ago and said,
it looks like they're all gonna be just fine except
for that one that snapped before we went outside.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Thanks Grant, appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
So that's my fault that our backyard lost a little
appeal this morning with the heavy snow.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
But a lesson well learned.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
A lesson certainly learned this morning.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
You getting this, young Seegers.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Not a lesson I wanted to learn, yes, but a
lesson I learned.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Always listen, young sears.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
I mean, I know that that mel tustasone that's coursing
through our veins is gonna tell us, Nah, don't listen
to her. What can we learn from her? Trust me,
you can always learn something.

Speaker 5 (02:36):
Thankfully, I'm not in a financially strong enough position to
have a house. I'm in an apartment.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
About worry about those duties. See, that was my thing.
Like I let her sleep in today because she had
the day off. I woke up and fed the cats
and did some stuff around the house, and it.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
Never even crossed my mind.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
I'm a new homeowner, like this happened all in the
past year, So I was like, what, I don't need
to take care of anything outside. Lo and behold, I
need to shake the snow out of my trees. You
learn something new, well, see here's the thing.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Now.

Speaker 4 (03:05):
I know we're in the month of May, and usually
we're thinking that this is the time of the year
around other parts of the country plants start blooming, plants
are budding, and all of those things.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
We're not there yet, but we'll be there.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
But now you're entering in this whole idea of being
a homeowner. Hey man, you got to manicure your lawn.
You got to make sure the thing's on the side
of your home. If you live in a place with
h your way.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
Thank god we don't have an HL, so you don't.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
Need to have to worry about that, Thank God for that.
But you still have to worry about the weeds in
the garden. So you're gonna have to get out there.

Speaker 6 (03:41):
I'll try.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
I've already been pulling plenty of weeds. Yes, but yeah,
I didn't know about the shaking the snow out of
the trees.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
Big night for the Avs. But some Bronco news as well.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
We've got Dollon Bentley signing the seventh round draft pick,
So that means Red Murdoch and Dallon Bentley both signed
for the Broncos.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
Are they going in verse order?

Speaker 1 (04:00):
I think they are right. I mean, that's got to
be the easiest way to do it.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
Yes, well, those are the guys that you know, I
mean that you could sign right away. I mean there's
not a lot of negotiating that's going to take place,
so right, yes, yes, And I.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
Think they both get to go to Disney's Disney World,
they both, I think so.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
I think George Payton said in the exclusive one on
one with Benjamin Albright and Ryan Edwards. How so they're
going to find a way since they just kind of
did a coin flip of who was going to be
mister irrelevant because they had both of the last two picks,
that they're going to find a way to send both
of them to Disney World.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
Well, so that means I guess the Broncos are going
to foot the bill.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
I guess.

Speaker 6 (04:37):
So.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
I mean, we do have the richest owners in the sport.

Speaker 4 (04:40):
Well we do it. I don't want to spend anyone's money,
but if they are willing to throw some more cash around,
let me host some.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Well just ask Ryan Edwards. Disney World pretty expensive these days.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Mmm.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
Wow, God to two players going down.

Speaker 4 (04:56):
I know after the Super Bowl, both Sam Donald and
Kenneth Walker both went, and if I'm Kenneth Walker, I
would have been upset about that. I got to share
my time with the guy who didn't really do a
whole hell of a lot and I did all the
hidy lifted.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
Well, hun, Kenneth Walker's got a new home in Kansas City.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Now. Yeah, we can't let him get back to uh
Disney World.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
No, not anytime soon, at least not here in Broncos Country.
You want to talk about a positional upgrade that could
make the Broncos whole, But first we got to start
with those abs last night.

Speaker 7 (05:26):
Then a little one touch passing played through center but speed.
Here comes mckennant racing down the light windside dropped as
in the slot.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Trumps just carries rooksit on the back end.

Speaker 7 (05:41):
Here's the card to quarterback NHS with room down at
the goal line in fronts shot by Kaudrey on the

(06:02):
flank down to the goal line. Once again, landa Scott
see if he heads back to the buffer.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
There's for what timer they strike again.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Avs winning five to two against the Minnesota Wild last night,
go up two to zero and the series heading to
Minnesota for Game three on Saturday, had a buddy at
the game last night who said it was just absolutely
electric and ball arena playoff hockey, there's nothing like it.
And the Avs a record breaking eleven goal scorers. Eleven
different players have scored a goal for the Avs in

(06:39):
the first two games.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
You know what that tells me, Man, housekilled this.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
Uh Union's roster is And yeah, there's been some turnover
and some little tweaks here and there. But the one
thing they know and they have, they have that chemistry, man.
And the number of shots on goals so important. I mean,
you can look at hockey and you can look at
life at the same way. You miss half of the

(07:03):
shots you don't take exactly right, so you gotta shoot
the shot man.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
And right now the Avs are killing it.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
And I know why it was electric, not just because
the Avs is a dominating team and everyone's expecting them
to go win another Stanley Cup. But you can't play
any Nuggets games at the ball arenas, so yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
Yeah, man, And how about the Tea Wolves going into
San Antonio and stealing game one? We got game two tonight,
but uh yeah, I'm still not over that Nuggets loss.
But the Avs win makes it a little easier to swallow.
And I think this is their Stanley Cup to lose
this year. Like they look like they are clicking on
a whole other level, especially Nathan McKinnon.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
Like we already know he's a great player.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
Yeah, leading point scorer in the NHL this season in
the regular season, but he seems like he's turned it
up even another gear. You heard Jared Bednar post game
we played a little bit of the sound on KOWA Sports,
just talking about how that was the best game he's
ever seen Nathan McKinnon play in the postseason. And then
you heard Nathan McKinnon and Gabe Landiskog talking postgame as well,
and Nathan McKinnon glowing about the return of their captain

(08:07):
and how much that means to him and the camaraderie within.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
That locker room. It just feels like this is their.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
Stanley Cup to lose, and I don't think anyone's going
to take it from him.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
Well, you know what.

Speaker 4 (08:17):
Also, keep this in mind, there's a difference between the
way the Avs players look at themselves they approach the game,
and dare I say the way the Nuggets players look
at themselves and approach the game and they're owned by
the same people, right, It's just like, how on the
hell could something like that actually happen? And listen, man,

(08:39):
I'm not a hockey savant. I'll never claim the b one,
but I could tell you this, Man, I appreciate this
speed and expertise that I see when I watch these guys,
you know, play like my son plays lacrosse. And the
one thing that bothers the hell out of me is
that how slowly they shift getting plays on and off.

(09:01):
And I'm like, dude, let's watch some ABS games. See
how quick the sensive urgency they try to get on
and off the ice. If your team could actually do that, man,
it'll make things so much easier and so hard on
your opponents.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
But man, I can appreciate, you know, the sport itself.

Speaker 4 (09:16):
But I will say, you know, those ABS fans are
rooting extra hard because they are playing against the Minnesota Wild.
And the Minnesota team did eliminate the Denver Nuggets.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
Yeah, and the Minnesota Wild are a great hockey team.
This may be the best team the Avs face the
whole way. I mean, the Carolina Hurricanes look good in
the East. They haven't lost a game as well, and
then ahl playoffs so far. But like I said, I
think this is a year that we're getting. You know,
in Bronco season, towards the end, we were talking about, hey,
maybe three championship parades in Denver this year. I think

(09:47):
the Aves are at least going to bring us one five, six, six,
nine zero the Common Spirit health text line. If you
want to chime in, let us know you think the
Avs are bringing home the Stanley Cup.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
Back to Denver this year.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
Nick switching gears to the Broncos, you wanted to talk
about up a positional upgrade that may make the Broncos
roster hole, maybe them maybe make them the Super Bowl
favorite for next year.

Speaker 4 (10:07):
Well, yeah, and obviously there's been a number of positions.
Then discuss this past offseason from free agency to the draft.
But I still look at the Broncos linebacker position and
look at I would say how thin it is, even
though they have guys on the roster.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
And the reason Grant I say.

Speaker 4 (10:28):
Is stand because you think about the number of guys
who receive live reps and live games. That's so important
because both practice and games are entirely different. I mean,
I can queue the Alan iverson practice, right. But it
is so important to know that you have guys who

(10:49):
can step in in a moment's notice. So here's what
I think the Broncos are going to do. Because everyone's
wondering whether the Broncos are going to add someone else
before we get to training camp, there's always a possibility.
I don't think that addition grant takes place until maybe
some time into training camp because with the Broncos have
already done thus far, they've looked around at the other

(11:11):
thirty one teams, they looked at their depth chart. They
identified a couple of guys based on those particular players
skill set and how they fit into Vance Joseph defense.
All they're waiting for is for the team to cut
bait with him and then add that guy to their roster.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
So there are a number of guys.

Speaker 4 (11:30):
That you can look at and say, well, well, this
guy would fit, this guy will fit for the Denver Broncos.
But I think they're waiting until that moment in training camp,
just when teams start releasing players to add guys, because
you're not looking to add a guy who's going to
be a starter right now, You're looking to add a
guy who has starter potential and if you needed him,

(11:53):
maybe week eight, week nine, they can step in just
in case someone gets injured.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
Yeah, and maybe that person is already on your roster.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
Maybe that's a seventh round mister irrelevant you picked with
the last pick of the draft in Red.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Murdoch, Well, I mean hope you hope.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
I know this is a stretch because you don't expect
mister irrelevant to ever make an impact on your team.
Of course, we've seen some recent examples. You got Brock
Purdy with the San Francisco forty nine ers. But that
dude is a ballhawk, like he was this deal of
the draft. In my opinion, I don't know how or
why he made it to the last pick of the draft,
but he's a real player.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
He's a big time player.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
I think he's going to make a name for himself
in the NFL one way or another.

Speaker 5 (12:38):
I'll say part of the reason he fell was an
ankle injury, but the talent's absolutely there. He was Dane
Brugler a very popular draft nick. He was Dane Brugler's
top available player at the end of the draft. When
he went off the board, had like a fourth fifth
round grade on him. So talents certainly there. He just
has this weird ankle issue that I think teams were
concerned about in that maybe well, the.

Speaker 4 (12:58):
Same thing happened Jonathan Cooper because he felt because of.

Speaker 3 (13:03):
The issue and he was a stud at Ohio State.

Speaker 4 (13:05):
Right, So this is where certain teams get you know,
a llegit draft stills. But it goes back to two things.
That guy staying healthy and then also that team developing
that player now where he can step in with enough
confidence that he can execute whatever they asked him to do.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
Those are the two elements that you're thinking about.

Speaker 4 (13:25):
So, look, I'm root for the kid to make an impact,
But when you look at the size that I guess
in the NFL they have these charts right where they
place guys perennial pro bowler, you know, where's it going
to be a special teams player or whatever. But then
also there's kind of a size metric, and if you

(13:48):
are judging him by the size mesric, he doesn't measure
up because he's on the smaller side of the linebackers.
But there's always one part that you can't measure, right,
It is that person's heart, yea, that person's.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
Drive my chest. I know exactly where you're going.

Speaker 4 (14:04):
With that person's drive that you cannot measure because you
go like, you know, he's not the ideal size and
speed to play in the NFL. All I know is
when you get to stop watch, it may not add up,
but when you put on a game tape, oh, it's
adding a freak up.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
And he's a dude that loves to watch the game
tape and he's got a nose for the football.

Speaker 3 (14:25):
We heard the story Ben.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
Is related a couple of times watching tape on how
people carry the ball and having a way to get
that ball out. Seventeen force fumbles last year at Buffalo
in the MAC, which is an underrated football conference. And
you mentioned his ankle issue, Zach. We know all too
well about ankle issues here in Broncos Country right now.
Ian Rappaport was on KOA Sports earlier today talking about

(14:47):
bo Nix's ankle and if there's any reason for Broncos
Country to worry about it.

Speaker 8 (14:52):
You know, I understand why Bronco's central nervous I understand
why you hear, you know, two surgeries and you say,
oh my god, things are bad. A couple things historically
you know, this is an injury that players do come
back from. Me Remember, you know, for the Broncos, there's
not a contractual decision anytime this offseason. For the Dallas Cowboys,

(15:13):
facing a similar but I think worst injury for Dak Prescott,
they gave him forty million dollars per year, paid him
as the highest paid quarterback in the NFL. So you know,
that was sort of the That was the environment around
Dak's extension. That was the confidence that the Cowboys had,
even though it was actually like you know, just probably

(15:34):
two months after surgery, so not as far along as
Bo is right now. So there is a really good
chance of a full recovery. As far as the second surgery,
My understanding is when they went in originally in January,
When they went in originally in January, they thought, okay,
there's a pretty decent chance they might have to go

(15:55):
in again and clean some stuff up. Could have done
it all at once, decided you know what better just
to wait, let some of the healing happen, and then
go in a second time and you know.

Speaker 9 (16:05):
Make sure that there was nothing else in there that
wou give them problems in the future. I've talked to
plenty of people about this. I do not believe there's
any cause for concern. Obviously, you know you'd like to
have him on the field.

Speaker 8 (16:19):
I guess I don't really think it matters that much.
But I believe he's going to be okay.

Speaker 3 (16:24):
He worried about bow NeXT's ankle at all, because I'm not.

Speaker 4 (16:28):
I am not worried about bo Nix's ankle. That's just me,
but other people are are Guy Benjamin L. Bright, he
is one of those individuals. And I would say that
Ben and any other member of the media here locally
or even fans, right, sometimes there are setbacks when you

(16:49):
cut into the body. Nothing is always perfect. The thing is,
you make sure that there is no scar tissue, there's
no infection, and if that's not the case, then that incision,
that injury is gonna be okay because all you're doing
is you're going to clean it up, right. You just
load device suck the things out that I guess, the

(17:11):
whatever bone spurs or whatever is inside.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
We had Doc Dave Schneider on KOE Sports the other day.
He called it a glob. Okay, shuck out the glob,
suck the glob whatever.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
I don't want to freeze it right, But I don't believe.

Speaker 4 (17:23):
That it's a major issue here for for bon Nicks. Now,
I mean, could there be something that the team is
not divulging to the media. I mean they could be
we see that with everything right, But like I try
to tell Ben, you don't have to tell them.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
They're not obligated to tell us. So I was like,
the hell with you guys, have them kids, and we'll
let you know when we.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
Were ready to let you know from the three or
three on the text line. Some reason for optimism for
US Avs fans. Keep in mind the last time the
Avs won the Stanley Cup? Do you won the Frozen four?
Do you already did their job?

Speaker 6 (18:00):
This year?

Speaker 3 (18:01):
Looking like a Stanley Cup again here in Denver, hopefully
in a couple of weeks. We got Rockies Baseball coming
up next on KOA.

Speaker 1 (18:12):
Welcome into It, Broncos Country. Tonight, I'm Grant Smith filling
in for Benjamin Albright alongside my guy Nick ferguson post
Rockies edition. We're going to head on out to the
Kowa Common Spirit Health Hotline and bring on our good
friend Bree Maastis of The Less Talk Broncos and believe
in the Broncos podcast.

Speaker 6 (18:29):
Bri, how are you doing tonight, No, guys, it's so
good to hear from me. I feel like it's been
a while. I'm doing well. A little cold. I think
it's a little late in the season here for this
kind of snowstorm. But other than that, I'm doing well.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
For you, No kidding, a little late in the season
for the snowstorm.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
I shared a story with Nick earlier today about one
of the trees snapping in my backyard because the snow
was so heavy. Now, I didn't I'm a new homeowner.
I had no idea that I even needed to be
sweeping the snow off of my trees in my backyard.
So I guess I learn something new today.

Speaker 6 (19:02):
Welcome to the league, rookie.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
You know that's funny you breathe lost that out. Welcome
to the league, rookie.

Speaker 4 (19:12):
The Broncos have a couple of new additions that they've
added to the roster, and I'm wondering of the rookies
that were added, which of those guys are you eager
to see kind of like impact the team early?

Speaker 6 (19:29):
Yeah, I think when you put the caveat of impacting
the team early. I think you have to go with
the obvious pick in Jonah Coleman. I don't think it's
particularly close right now because it feels like a definitive
Sean Payton pick for running back, Like that's a playoff
football running back. That's the best way that I can
think to describe it, because when you watch a guy

(19:49):
like Coleman, you see that toughness, you see the I've
seen it turn around like sneaky receiving ability. I think
it's pretty pertinent receiving ability and just the overall passion.
It's been really fun to watch from the moment he
got drafted to him sort of manifesting it and all
the good storylines aside. I think what's exciting is how
the Coleman role is going to specifically grow and change

(20:13):
the texture of this Bronco's offense. You had some hope
with R. J. Harvey bringing a lot of that to
the room, but I think Coleman rounds it all out
and it's kind of what raises that playoff caliber gravity
that you're looking for. I feel like Coleman is one
of those guys who's gonna matter in those late season
games like when you talk about what takes teams from

(20:35):
contenders to really solidifying themselves as super Bowl caliber, this
is the pick that really makes you think that the
Paytons really were looking at what the offense said and
what they needed, and I think that was physical and
I think it was the sustainability of those roles. And
so every playoff team needs that running back who can

(20:56):
stabilize the offense, and I think Coleman really adds to that,
especially you know his comments of protecting the quarterback. He's
built for that role, and I think there's a real
chance by the end of the season we're talking about
the Broncos having one of the deepest and most versatile
running backgrounds in football, and that's a really lovely change
of pace from where they've been at.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
Yeah, we were talking to Justin Mellow earlier in the
week from SI and also had Jed Fish on his
Jonah Coleman's former coach at Washington, and they both talked
about his past protection skills and that's going to be huge.
It seems like he's going to be taking the place
of Tyler Badet on those third down snaps. But man,
what an addition and what a steal in the fourth round.

(21:36):
What did you think of the Broncos draft as a whole.
They got a couple of steals that felt like, in
my opinion, the last two picks of the draft, both
of the rookies that they have now signed, and Dallan
Bentley and Read Murdoch out of Buffalo. What were your
thoughts on the Broncos draft, albeit without picking in the
first two rounds because of that Jayleen Model trade and
trading back in the second round, well, that.

Speaker 6 (21:57):
Really put them in a position where they didn't have
to reach. Broncos drafted like a team that believes the
roster's already there, They're already a playoff caliber team because
they are. They do they did it, and I didn't
think that they needed to be desperate. You really saw
the mentality shifting from not being in a rebuild. There
wasn't any pressure on any decision maker to save a

(22:18):
franchise or swing away on the hopes of, you know,
landing a franchise quarterback. It was more supplemental, like you
get to go after the guys you like and you
get to maybe take some of those late round gems.
And you commented on, you know, the last two picks,
those those sequential picks, the mister irrelevant and the mister

(22:39):
pre real relevant. I don't know how you want to
qualify those, but I think honestly, you get a big
philosophical shift on what we've seen under Sean Payne and
George Payton. I love that they didn't have to worry
about the first round draft pick grades, right like you
get Dalen Waddle, and instead of drafting a developmental rookie

(22:59):
receipt and hoping that like he eventually becomes somewhat of
a Jalen Wattle, you got the proven explosiveness already there.
And I think it's really the idea that they were
able to be purposeful and you got a lot of
physicality and sustainability, and I think sustainability is what's going
to come up a lot during the off season as
we look at what every pick means, but mostly about

(23:21):
what they need to do to really shore up the
rest of that mentality. And I really do love that
you brought up that final overall pick too, because Red Murdoch,
I think, really has a great shot to be a
cult favorite here in Denver. It's written all over him,
and I think Broncos fans love players like this. You
get to have that built in rivalry for the rest

(23:44):
of your career. With Bentley, that's like the same name,
same name, same roster to it at all. But I
loved that pick specifically, not just for the name, because
he's got old Crome cool literally already built in.

Speaker 3 (23:57):
Like Red Murdoch, how believe that?

Speaker 6 (23:59):
But he's also so yeah, like he feels old school
broncos cool. You've got that downhill aggressiveness and he's emotional.
When Nick talked about like what are you most excited about?
I think he's the guy most excited about for a
number of reasons, and I could get into all of them,
but he's probably the guy who is rounding out, you know,

(24:19):
core special teams roles and rotating in at linebacker. But
it's it's a prime position to be in because you
get to fall in love with a guy who is
going to pack in value and it raises the floor
of the roster. He feels like one of those guys.
And a lot of the drafting that was done was
really about solidifying long term future proofing, and you saw

(24:42):
that in the offensive line pick with Cage Casey. You're
not drafting for twenty twenty six alone. That's what you
do when you're in a rebuild. It's like, how do
we make the team better? Now? The Bronco's got the
draft for the foreseeable future, and I think you know,
Sean Pay and George Pay and everyone involved in this
knows that you're developing around a quarterback. I think this
really drove home the point that Bonix is their guy,

(25:05):
and all the outside noises aside the entire office nor
reflects that philosophy. It's developmental and it's organizational, but it's
not just on the individual. That's I feel so good
about it, which I can't wait to be just slapped
across the face with something about it. But I felt
really good about this draft and what it says.

Speaker 4 (25:23):
Well, you know what has slapped people across the face
here in Broncos country is the latest news about Bowl
nakes and this allege cleanup.

Speaker 3 (25:36):
Right cleaning out the glob.

Speaker 4 (25:37):
Yeah, and you know, I don't even know what. I
don't even call it a ledge because apparently it did happen.
So let's talk about the cleanup itself. But more importantly,
if Bowl is expected to miss some time and maybe
miniicabin OTA's Is this the best.

Speaker 2 (25:52):
Time to get Sam Ellinger more reps?

Speaker 6 (25:57):
Hmm, yeah, I could see that. Look, I think the
Broncos and the fans should really take this seriously without
crossing over into full panic mode, which I know is
hard to do. Or you've just established that Nix is
the guy, you just established that you need him long
term in order to not have the collapsing inwards like
a dying star in which happened to kind of cap

(26:20):
the Bronco season. But I think there's a difference from
what we're seeing from this is worth monitoring and this
is a disaster, and I think right now we're all
being torn in between kind of what strategic maintenance is
in like a career threatening injury issue. I have anxiety,
and I'm absolutely the first person who's going to jump

(26:41):
into the like, oh no, this is the end of
times and just when we found our savior. But I
think the reporting has been pretty fair and I think
it's been pretty reassuring. But I do think that it
starts to beg the question, and so I kind of
want to think that the story itself right as we're
talking about it's not just about an ankle. It's not

(27:01):
just about a revision surgery. It's not just about the
blatness of scar tissue coming up to bite someone. It's
this This team is bo Nix's team, and I think
when you start to look at what that means for
the off season, and it doesn't mean he's going to
be slow to come back and doesn't mean that it
was a mistake to be aggressive and trade for Jalen Waddle.

(27:21):
Is it the right time to hand over a play
calling duty is to Davis web Like, there's so many
questions that this is now running through as a symptom
of the ankle injury. But I think every mised rep
will matter quite a bit, and that also includes getting
more reps to as Sam Ellinger, Like, I, yes, wild
Bow is out, Someone's going to have to take those

(27:43):
reps and I think Ellinger is the next guy up.
But I don't think that you can absolutely pour into
the idea that there was an uninterrupted season laying in
the in the wayside for for anybody. The injuries happen
the best availabilities invest abilities that they and I think
that that's where everyone's kind of like, Okay, what now.

(28:03):
I like the contingency that the Broncos have a quarterback
room that they trust in. This web has that chemistry
built in already. I don't see a lot of disruption
when it comes to that, but they're going to have
to have some form of a contingency, and I think
that's why they've worked so much to really keep the
guys that they like in that room. Like the team
can't start, so they can't afford to miss Bonnicks in

(28:24):
the minute he's ready, I know he's going to be
out there. So it really depends on does this become
an issue for the long term, And I guess time
will tell on that facet, because pretending that it was
all perfectly fine that I think that would have been
a lot worse had we not known that there was,
you know, another surgery to clean up scar tissue. I
think this is all smart, and I think that there's

(28:45):
a concern level that's needed, and I just don't want
it to be panic and alarm bells, because I think
the bigger lesson here is exactly as you pointed to Nick,
who's the next guy up? Because we saw that it
wasn't there when he went down after that game, and
so I think that they need a stronger contingency and
a better protection for the quarterback that also includes a

(29:07):
quarterback that's not ready to go.

Speaker 1 (29:09):
Talking with Bree masas here on Broncos Country, a night
host of Let's Talk Broncos and Believe in the Broncos podcast,
always does a great job. Now that the dust has
settled on the draft, and assuming that bon Nix's ankle
is healthy by the start of training camp, there are
any holes that you still want to see the Broncos
fill on this roster? Are you pretty comfortable with how
things sit?

Speaker 6 (29:31):
You know, I'm really happy with where things sit, But
I don't think that it means that you have to
stand pat If if a player were to be available,
if a tight end were out there that ultimately pass
through the premeations that are free agency, I think that
the Broncos would make a move on that if it
made sense from a financial perspective. But I don't think

(29:54):
that there's these glaring needs where I see them reaching,
And I don't think that there's a player out there
that really makes me think that they'll make a leap
for I mean, obviously, I think in the back of
my head I was kind of hoping for an House
and Camara, even though age be set aside as far
as the concern factor there, they already shored up what

(30:15):
I think they needed to along running back, and I
think they did a tremendous job with the tight end
room as well, and so it leaves less of having
to make those decisions and I don't think that they
need to do so, but they still have a lot
to prove and they still have to find how they're
going to manufacture stress late in the season. I think

(30:39):
that's what their offense is missing. So anything that contributes
to that is going to be extremely valuable because otherwise
it's going to be volatile. And I don't think you
want to see that. But you saw how Sean Day
and indeors May went into drafting two tight ends. Now
list Jolie and Bentley, and I think they're fascinating additions.

(31:00):
I think you clearly see a tight end room that
went from we're bringing back to the veterans and we're
just running it back to having receiving options and having
that multiplicity and mismatch of athletes out there. You get
multiple tight end looks and you get those red zone mismatches,
and I feel like the depths and development that they've
now put in for long term sustainability to see you know,

(31:23):
there's that word again. I think it just allows them
to really build up for the future, and I think
that's what they're doing here. I think next season you'll
see what worked and what didn't, and you'll want to
make bigger moves. But I like what the Bronx have
done this this offseason so far. I could see a
sneaky name being in there, but it'll probably be a
tight end from another team. If that's where they're adding,

(31:45):
then it's explosiveness and star power. But I think what
you'll keep hearing from me as this season goes on
and as we talk about it is that they did
a lot of the digging to be contenders and they're
proving why they like what they have. It wasn't just
a way of them gliding past questions and pressers like

(32:06):
they like the rooms and they knew what they wanted
to add, and I think they accomplished that.

Speaker 4 (32:10):
You know, it's interesting that you bring up the position
of tight end and we're wondering what the Broncos or
how that unit is going to really impact to be
impact for this season. They added to young of tight ends.
But I can't help but think that maybe the Bronco

(32:31):
could add maybe another guy, and a guy like Taysom Hill.
And before you start screaming at me, I know he's
thirty five, I know he has a relationship with Sean Payton.
But I'm just looking at him for what he can
bring to the table from an athletic kind of dual threat.
If I can use that terminology to kind of describe

(32:54):
a Taysom Hill, would you be opposed to maybe at
some point, maybe late preseason, in that process, the Broncos
add a guy like Taysom Yale.

Speaker 6 (33:06):
No, I don't think I would be opposed. I think
you kind of instinct people you want to roll your
eyes at it a little bit because you're wondering our
is this just a Sean Payton moved to say, I
still like I still have this control of this offense. Necessarily,
I don't. I don't dislike the situation. I constantly pick
up Taysom Hill in fantasy because I know he's good

(33:29):
for like these crazy runs on points like I think
there's I think it's just an interesting concept because nobody
really has another Taysom Hill. He's such a unique football weapon,
and he was for Peyton in New Orleans for such
a long time that I don't think you would want
to recreate a Taysom Hill, So you have to go
get the original, like you. You can't. You can't just

(33:52):
manufacture a positionless football or ensure that you have that
flexibility just by filling in the gaps. I even point
to the idea Nick you mentioned age. I'm not going
to be against it either. I think that the Broncos
have right now. You get Ingram and you have the
movement and receiving explosiveness that I hope that they target more.

(34:14):
You have the trust and blocking ability and Troutman, You've
got the system familiarity there, and ultimately I think it
would be really interesting. But it would say that you
have uncertainty in what you have already, which goes against
what I've said a little bit earlier. And so I
think that's only where I'm like what they actually do it.

(34:34):
But I think that it would be that extra piece,
and I don't want to go to the joker notion
or the jack of all trades or the Swiss army knife.
But versatility has been the big word used for Sean
Payton since he first got here. And now you want
to be more creative. You want to expand the playbook.
You don't want to compress it down. We've seen that

(34:55):
it doesn't work. And as you start to build that
trust into bo Nicks and his confidence returns and all
of the other things that come into the formula of
a successful offense. You made the moves to push defenses
horizontally with Jalen Waddell, and you have the tight end
stresses for middle of the field at Taysom Hill, just
adds that much more. It's that much more protection for

(35:18):
the quarterback. It's that much more of a structure of
an offense in which really has more to do. And
I think that's what the Broncos have been lacking. If
teams are expecting or knowing where you want to go
with the ball, you're going to be shut down more
often than not. And I think this changes things a
little bit, and I think it fills the need for
you know, Paint and Company to get that gadgety football,

(35:40):
going to have those those fun plays in there and
really stress the abilities of the roster that they presently
have in place. So yeah, Okay, why not, Nick, You've
convinced me, I've convinced myself live why don't we do it?

Speaker 2 (35:55):
I love it, I'm all for it.

Speaker 3 (35:57):
Uh, Brie, We're going to save ourselves a heartache tonight.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
I know you're a huge Nuggets fan like me and
Nick are, but we're going to save ourselves a heartache tonight.
Maybe once the dust has settled a little bit more
on their season, we'll talk about what the possible offseason
moves are for them.

Speaker 3 (36:11):
But we appreciate your time as always, have a great
rest of your.

Speaker 6 (36:13):
Night and appreciate you.

Speaker 3 (36:15):
I'll have a good one Nick.

Speaker 1 (36:17):
That does it for us, man, It's always a blast
sitting then with you. Hopefully we get to do it
again soon and Ben will be back tomorrow after his
amazing concert of the Midnight at Mission Ballroom.

Speaker 3 (36:27):
Hell yeah, appreciate you man. Broncos Country a night on
