Speaker 1 (00:00):
But Broncos Country tonight, Benjamin al Brad Dick Ferguson here
(00:03):
with you five six six nine zero. The text line
as always appreciate you guys being long for a post
Rockies edition. Wele Broncos news Today. Broncos will open the
season on the road at Kansas City. That is interesting.
Is Pat Mahomes going to be ready in time for
that game?
Speaker 2 (00:20):
I'm gonna say no. I know there were some reports that, hey,
well we've seen Patrick Mahomes running at practice. Running at
practice after knee surgery is something that everyone expects for
you to get to at certain point. But that's a
lot different than running to be able to avoid being
(00:40):
sacked by Benito.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
It's entirely different.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
So I am not all in on this idea, And
I wonder why would the league do this? Why would
they make it a Week one game? Because I mean,
I love it, but the football enthusiast in me doesn't
like it because I wanted to see the Broncos versus
Patrick Mahomes and the.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Chiefs at the at the fullest.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
So the Chiefs fans won't get on social media like, well,
you know, our guy wasn't at his uh full potential
he was still laboring with the knee injury. I want
to beat a team when they're at the best. I
don't think this sets up that Week one game uh
to be much of a I.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Guess narrative or something that we can talk about.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Unless unless your guy Justin Fields is starting the quarterback
and he somehow miraculously beats the Broncos.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Oh if he does, I mean my head will explode. Yeah,
because you can't let Justin Fields beat you. You know
he's not a good quarterback. We've were on what team
four or five now.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
And I know you're not a huge fan of one.
Justin Fields.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
You can call them as Christian named Justin Justin field goals.
It's fine because you're lucky if you could field goals.
If he's a quarterback, but he look, I mean for
the Broncos, it could be a free, be easy win
to start for the season against a mounted division opponent
if Pat Mahomes is not one hundred percent ready to go.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
But that would go totally against the narrative what we've
been hearing for so many years as it pertains to
Kansas City and how the league loves him so much
and Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelcey and Mike Tarrico and
the guys talking about you know, Taylor Swift appearances on
NBC Sports. I mean, this would go totally against this
(02:34):
because well the league now go against their golden boy
in that sense, but starting to chiefs off with an
l knowing that these games within an AFC West Division
are going to be.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Very important, especially down the stretch.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Yeah, I don't, I don't know. This one felt weird
to me. I mean, there's been some stuff with the
with the schedule this year that's sort of that's sort
of like they had some problems and so they had
they've they they did not even finish the schedule until today,
the twelfth. They didn't even finish it till today. It
hasn't I'm just telling it because they had some there
(03:11):
was some concert conflicting with something and they had to
move something to Monday, Monday night game, and it was
it was just one of those things that, Uh, in
the end, you had a lot going on and they
didn't have as much flexibility as they usually did, and so, uh,
the schedule was was significantly later than usual. Now, as
(03:33):
far as the rest of that goes, I mean, we'll see. Uh,
we don't have the rest of the schedule yet. I
don't have the rest of the schedule yet. Since it
obviously wasn't finished till this afternoon, I probably won't get
it till late to night or tomorrow. You know, it
used to be done the weekend before, but I guess
they got tired of it getting leaked out so much,
and now they're the ones facilitating the leagues.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
The league is okay, wait, okay, So so this is
the part that disturbs me because the league prides itself
on integrity.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
We have principals, well.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Probably itself on saying.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
That, that's what I'm saying. They probably themselves on saying it.
But we know the league has a lot of partners,
and it's just like, can you not control your own
house where the schedule doesn't get leaked out to someone?
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Well, they're leaking it out.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Okay, well then if that if that's the case, look
it shouldn't have taken this damn long to figure out
the schedule.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
The Super Bowl was over.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Win when was it over what February? Yeah, like February,
February what February.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Or February somewhere there.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
You start right then, right, Yeah, you start right then
to figure this out. You already knew what international games
were going to be played. If you didn't know both opponents,
you at least knew one of the opponents. So it
shouldn't take this long to figure it out.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
I mean again, this is one of those things where
they usually have it done the weekend before, and in
this particular case, now we're looking at it the Wednesday
before the show, Tuesday before the show, and so you know,
I I don't know. There are a lot of people,
I will tell you behind the scenes that are frustrated
that this has taken so long to you know, to
get out there, and then frustrated the league is leaking
(05:08):
it out after being so adamant about people leaking it
out being a problem in previous years.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
But isn't that that goes back to playing both sides
of defense, right, Yeah, we want to keep everything close
to the vest, and we have stringent rules on leaking
information out.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
Oh, by the way, it's okay when we do it
that well.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
I mean there's a lot of that going on in society, right, Yeah,
no matter how you look at it. But as it
pertains to this particular matchup Week one against Kansas City
on Monday Night. To me, without Patrick Mahomes being in
the game, I don't, I don't. I think it lose
a little of its star power. Would you say that
(05:51):
if he's not there?
Speaker 1 (05:52):
Yeah, this is a Monday night football game and you're
gonna have justin fields up against this Broncos defense.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Oh yeah, that that that's kind of that's that's bad.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Even though I know the Chiefs have made some changes
to their offense, they have two good running backs, a
veteran guy and Kenneth Walker and Emmitt Johnson from Nebraska.
I think that's the rookie that they picked up. Yeah,
but do you think that maybe I don't know, there's
(06:22):
some inside information through the league, through their sources that
they figured that Patrick Mahomes will be ready and available
for a Week one matchup.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
That's and that's what I'm thinking. I think they believe
that he's going to be back and ready. They got
to believe. That's why they're putting it in a primetime
game to start the you know, to start this off,
and you're starting off one, I mean because Denver, Kansas
City is a Marquee matchup right, It is the vision game.
That's that's a market. I mean, like any point in
the season, whoever's got the broadcast rights is hanging on
to that when it's not getting flexed. You know, the
only time that's that would ever be get flexed is
(06:54):
if PA Mahomes wasn't playing, So you know, I I
as far as that goes from see seemed a little
weird to me. But we'll have more on that tomorrow,
and we'll have more on that coming out. Netflix, which
is obviously aims to be in the NFL business, but
doesn't want to be all in John around and Netflix
(07:18):
CEO Ted Sarandos sat down had a conversation on Fox Business,
and Ted Sarata said he doesn't want the company to
do a full season of pro football games. Sarando says
Netflix just wants to lean into eventized events and not
bidding on the whole seasons. The NFL had pitched Netflix
on a Sunday morning package of games, which would basically
be you know, the international contests conducive to a global
(07:41):
streaming platform like Netflix. Netflix was not interested. They just
did not have any ambition to buy a full season package.
So the NFL is now shopping that to CBS, Fox, NBC, ABC, ESPN,
Prime Video. They're current partners to see if they want
to pick up that package and go from there. And
(08:01):
this new you know, will offer Sunday morning games as
a package. Could be a thing. When Media Arena goes there,
it renegotiates the deal when the league ops out in
twenty twenty nine for the broadcast rights and those go
back through the roof, So it'll be interesting. Apple YouTube
and theory could could take that. Prime Video could take
a couple more games. With everything pivoting to streaming, where
(08:24):
are you at with I've got to buy fifteen different
services to watch football?
Speaker 2 (08:27):
Man, let me tell you, man, that's a bunch of
donkey pooh and cou chips, man, Because when we grew up,
I mean you had ABC, CBS, NBC, NBC and then
obviously you know you had Fox came along, yeah, and
that's all you needed. You didn't need cable, And I
(08:48):
don't understand things change and people cut the cord and
they start going to streaming services now. But it's a
lot for fans because you got to think about it.
The average ticket price when I was playing for the Broncos,
and we're talking about like maybe fifty yard line maybe
with seventy six dollars, and it jumped up over the years.
(09:09):
So if you have a family of four and you
want to go to a game, that's gonna cost you.
If you want to watch NFL games out of market,
it's gonna cost you. If you want to watch games
on holidays like Thanksgiving, but more importantly Christmas, it's gonna
cost you because that game is either on Netflix or
it's on Peacock. And if you don't have that streaming
(09:30):
service and your team is playing, you're gonna miss out.
So something has to happen about this. And I understand
everyone wants to make money, but fans are the oil
that greases the engines. And if fans get to a
point and fans haven't done this yet where they said, well,
we're frustrated and we're gonna do it in droves, We're
(09:50):
just not gonna watch, we're not gonna pay, then that's
going to force individuals to change your mind as far
as how much you're willing play, you're willing to pay,
but for this Netflix thing, really quickly, I mean, I
think this is a good idea by Netflix not wanting
to be all in, because if you go all in
on having a lot of these football packages, then the
(10:14):
league is going to have you. By then, I say
the gonads, you don't want that, and you want to
be able to operate your organization with the movies and
all the other things that you're able to do. You
get in bed with the NFL, you better be careful because,
as my mother would say, you lay down with dogs,
(10:35):
you wake up with.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Fee's and that's generally how it goes. It's interesting because
the broadcast rights and the gambling revenue is what has
propelled the NFL in recent years, over the last five
six years, that's the money that's carrying the league. And
as it sits right now, you're getting to the breaking
point with fans in terms of, hey, I don't want
to have fifteen different streaming services just to be able
(10:58):
to watch stuff around the league like that's you know,
it's getting to the point where they're about to get
the breaking point with that.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
Yeah, it is.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
And then some places they're blackouts, so they so they
force you to right and if you can't watch the
game in your area, you might go to your local
bar or your pub to watch it. But guess what,
they too have that expense where they have to pay
for that streaming service because they can't stream it illegally,
(11:25):
because that's going to be very costly for them. So things,
the ability to watch professional football is becoming really expensive.
And there are a lot of fans I know, and
I'm sure you know some of them yourself. Man, they
don't have deep pockets. Man, They're trying to make ends meet, right.
They love the game, but the game is becoming too
(11:46):
expensive to watch.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
Yeah, you gotta buy groceries, man, I can't. You know,
I got groceries. I gotta buy before I'm buying, you know, A.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Hey, you may have to tell your kid, Hey, I'm sorry,
I got dad had a lot of money on the line.
The Bills are playing at home against Detroit Lions and
the new stadium. Yeah, and I needed to watch it.
So you're not gonna be able to eat lunch for
two days.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
As I said, the bills are piling up. While the
bills are piling up, Yeah, you know exactly. So it's
it's yeah, it's one of those things I am I'm
getting it's getting to the breaking point with that kind
of stuff. And uh, that's one of those things that
I think, you know, end of the day, we're probably
going to see this, This next bargeting agreement is going
to be astronomical in terms of prices, and then you're
going to see a pivot back the other way as
fans are like, Okay, we're not paying this.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
To get into that game. The Bills hosting the Detroit Lions.
You know, whether the tickets starting at I don't six
hundred and thirty six.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
DoD nose bleeders for the for the opening of the stadium.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Man to get in. Well, yes, you got to think
about it. That's a massive stadium. They didn't just build
that just to say, well, we're just going to give
away money. No, no, no, you have to come paid
to see these Bills.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
That is uh yeah, you don't be.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
To pay your bill.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
I sort of get the history of their opening the
new stadium, and you know, I get that. I think
if you're a Bills fan, that might be cool, but
like for me, I'm not paying six hundred dollars to
watch the Bills play the Lions.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
Well see, you don't care, but if you die hard
hot wing eating Tills jumping.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
Yeah right, you know, fan from Buffalo, you're gonna pay that.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
If they told you Ben it was gonna cost you,
we're gonna charge you less than nine less than one
thousand dollars. It's gonna be nine hundred and ninety nine.
Someone's gonna pay that vice.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
No, something will. I'm not gonna, but somebody will. Somebody
else stepped in to do it. The other big thing
a bunch of international games.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
This year.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
We have nine international games. That's up from five last year.
You've got, uh what three in London, won in Paris,
won in Madrid, when in Melbourne, won in Germany, when
in Rio. One in Mexico City. We already know some
of the opponents there. In fact, we learned today that
it's gonna be the Steelers and the Saints in Paris.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Okay, well, are the Broncos still playing in Mexico because
I know that.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
No, I don't think they're playing in Mexico. So that
was the one the Niners when they were supposed to
play the Niners in Mexico City, but the Niners vetoed
dead because they thought that Broncos would have an advantage
being at altitude all the time. And going and playing
there where the Niners are at sea level, so they
wanted they wanted a sea level team to play them
at you know, up at that altitude.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
So okay, just even the playing field.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
So they vetoed the Broncos on that one, and they'll
get to they'll get Denver at home or whatever as
far as that kind of stuff goes.
Speaker 3 (14:19):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
But yeah, the Saints and and the Steelers are going
to square off October twenty fifth in Paris. That has
been confirmed as a new schedule drop leak as well.
Haven't had too many Broncos schedule leaks come out yet.
Like I said, you know, the schedule was only finished today,
so you know, people who are saying they had it
before today were lying to you. I know, I saw
(14:41):
some of that out there, people saying they've had it
all the weekend or whatever. Absolute malarkey. If they had it,
they didn't have it, They couldn't have well, they couldn't
have had it, It's right, you know, It's just it's
it's people lying for attention. That's that's what you get.
One of the things I want to talk about real
quick it is, you know, we talk sometimes about how
people are online right online. Vitrio Bengals wide receiver Andrey
(15:01):
Yashovich was struggling to deal with a lot of that
online invective last year. He was credited me with five
drop passes during the regular season. He said today that
they triggered a lot of vitriol out of social media accounts,
and the messages made him angry and he had a
difficult time compartmentalizing those emotions, he said. Talking to ESPN,
he said, I feel like last year I was in
(15:22):
my head a little bit. I had those drops in
those games, and people were telling me to kill myself
and all that kind of stuff. I never had that
stuff happen to me before, so I got in my
head when your dms are flooded with people telling you
to kill yourself. Yosovich finished the year with thirty three
catches four to thirty five yards two touchdowns. He said
he's shifted his mindset to prepare this year, just not
letting outside noise get to him circumstances get to him.
(15:44):
He is obviously the Mangos third white Aubehnja mar Chase
and T Higgins. The last couple of seasons, you know,
I know you've dealt You've probably you came up a
little bit before the explosion of the social media era,
but you still came up with the social media era
a little bit. You know, how is it? It's how
difficult is it these days to tune out all the
noise from these people that are sitting there saying stuff
(16:06):
like that to you?
Speaker 3 (16:07):
It is hard.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
And Ben, as one of the individuals who love to
tweet and engage yourself, you used to be well aware
of this because you're in a situation where you're constantly
in m mom where someone is evaluating, criticizing you. So
it's it's very tough man. You have tried, you have
to try to lock out the noise, but it's very
(16:30):
difficult because it seemed like someone's screaming up with a bullhorn.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
Yeah, it's it's it does in these days. I mean
that social media pressure makes it that much louder because
it is so prevalent and everything else. So I just
thought that that was an interesting one. You got to
be awesome that you're getting kill yourself emails whatever. Broncos
Country and I get in a break quieback right after this,
Welcome back to it, Broncos Country Tonight post Rockies Pirates
(16:58):
edition ball Skiens struck out ten but lost. There's no
hit bid in the seventh inning against the Rockies, and
we'll we'll obviously get more into that here a little bit.
We're talking before a break. Bengals wide receiver on Andrey
Yosovich got a bunch of messages last year when you
would drop the ball, you'd get kill yourself messages on
social media, direct messages, things like that. I want to
(17:20):
get more into it because we only in a few
minutes to at that the end of the segment. It really,
you know, with social media as ubiquitous as it is
these days, it's everywhere. It's the Twitter, the Facebook, to
the TikTok to you know whatever that whatever the things are,
it gives you more as an athlete. It can give
you a bigger platform and a closer relationship with the fans,
(17:41):
but that's not always a good thing because they have
more access to you now. I don't like, for instance,
in order to keep people from doing that stuff to me,
I have my direct messages turned off. If I don't
follow you, you can't message me, so I don't have
to worry about it, which I would advise any athlete
to do. But you know whatever, Yosovich obviously doesn't subscribe
to that. You know, do you like, how would you
(18:01):
handle going about social media this day and age as
a player.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
Well, Ben, I would say I would approach it as
cautiously as possible because I would be.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
Lying to you if I were to tell.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
You that on a given day or after a game,
my emotions would not be charged, because that's what we're
dealing with. We're dealing with players in vulnerable positions. Because
everyone has a phone, everyone thinks that their scout, everyone
thinks that they work for the four Lettle network, and
because they have a voice, great thing about this country,
(18:41):
free speech, that they are open to criticize you even
though they couldn't actually do what you do. So I'm
sure that there would have been a moment that I
would have lost control, someone would have said something to.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
Me, and.
Speaker 2 (18:56):
Well, you know what, it would have went from flipping
over a gatoray table on the field to really flipping
someone probably off verbally on social media. And then you
walk right into it. You give them exactly what they want.
Everyone is looking for their vibral moment. But then that
person who's the antagonist now they get their moment too
as well.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
Look at what DK Metcalf and the Lions, you know,
and all that kind of stuff. And you know, you see,
you see this stuff out there are people trying to
bait and you know players into giving them a payday.
It's just, you know, it's just fascinating. I you know,
one of the things I think a lot of fans
and this is something I realized. I mean I didn't
realize that after I got into this business, but I
really hammered home. After you get into this business. Is
(19:36):
the I mean, athletes are people too. They've got real
stuff going on in their real lives beyond and know
just because you have access to see them play a
game on Sunday, it doesn't mean they're not going through stuff.
And for people to sit there and send messages because
they lost a bet. If losing a BET's gonna make
you mad, don't bet the money.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
Oh see see see that is the framework and the
ideology because we the those commercials. If you have the
gambling problem, please call one one hundred whatever. But we
know individuals are gonna do it anyway. And because they
know that you're a human, they know that you have feelings.
You have family members, you have a wife, you have kids,
(20:14):
you have an uncle, right, you have a mom. So
if they can somehow find a way to attack you
on that level, in that space, they will because once
again they're trying to get their viral moment. Now. The
don't get me wrong, social media is a double ed sword.
It is good because it helps you exceed your brand
and expand your brand, but it's also bad because a
(20:36):
lot of things about you as an individual can be
pushed out there, sometimes false information. So if you're in
a relationship and you happen to be in one of
those types of cities where I don't know, let's say Atlanta,
where you know, there's plenty of attractions with them, people
are always gonna.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
Be watching, and you could get your viral.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
You know, moment life Mike Vrabel and you know Diana
Rossini type of moment and people flourish on it. So
your your relationship not just what you do on the field,
Your relationship is in the spotlight as well.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
Yeah, and that's I mean, uh, there are multiple angles
and that that's the thing. I think there's there's a
danger in people having that much access because then they
have that much access to your family, your loved ones,
your kids. Yeah, you know, things like that. And so
there's you know the social media thing. I it's it's
the worst of the Internet, and we see how that's
manifested itself with players like Yaswitch getting getting threatening messages.
(21:34):
One other scheduling thing that came out today that I
wanted to get to the Weding get a chance to
talk about Colorado. See you opening up at Georgia Tech.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
Yeah, I think I think with that situation, I think
it was always going to be what home and away?
Speaker 1 (21:46):
Yeah, home and away. So this is the way it's
at Georgia Tech. It's eight pm Eastern six Local on
ESPN Thursday, September third, to kick off the college football season.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
What a great way to open up the season. Then
on the flats at Georgia Tech. These two teams played
last year and Georgia Tech I believe won that game
and Haines King was a quarterback. Now it is not
going to be Hanes King is going to be Fernando
Mendoza's younger brother. So I'm looking to see what bran
(22:17):
Key and the boys are going to do against coach
Prime in the Colorado buffs. But once again, man, this
is a great time of the year. We're not totally
at the summer, but we're talking you know, football like
pro football. Is the schedule and then now you're talking
about college football. Looking at the schedule, the matchups. Who
(22:38):
are the proposed Heisman Trophy winners and projected and I'm
giving air quotes here Heisman Trophy front runners?
Speaker 1 (22:46):
Yes, front runners runner. Why don't we just let the
season play out and then we can just vote on it. No,
that's not how that happened. To have a front runner somebody,
you have to throw someone out there. Now, you don't
have to throw somebody at the race hasn't started yet. Yes, well,
Usain Bolt is gonna win.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
But to run the race anyway, well yes, because I
mean you have to watch the race anyway.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
You have to be engaged.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
Right, That's what it is like. When arch Manning was
in high school, he was already being projected before he
even played a college down. Well, he's gonna go as
a first round quarterback in the twenty twenty seven draft, right,
So people were talking about arch Manning, you know, being
in a Heiser mc trophy conversation. He was in a
(23:29):
Heisman Trophy conversation last year, but didn't work out in
his favor, right, I know, I'm just like you, this
pump oar breaks. Let's just kind of play the process out.
But in our industry, that's not how this works. You
gotta have things to talk about.
Speaker 1 (23:42):
Well, I get something else to talk about here. We've
talked about it once before, and I can't believe this
is a real thing. Johnny Manzell is boxing Menory the
guy who does the voice stuff or whatever. This is,
Like this came out today that the poster. It's gonna
happen May twenty three. That's the that's the title match here,
(24:04):
although it's not considered the main event. The main event
is actually down here on the card somebody Sean Garcia
against something called scam likely the undercard.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
Ray J wait wait, brand yes.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
Yes, is fighting something called super Hot Fire. And if
you look at the picture of the guy, this is something.
This is super hot Fire whatever whatever he is. I
got a picture here it is. This is the dumbest
thing I think I've ever seen. What What in the
world are people like Johnny Manziel and Ray J doing?
Speaker 3 (24:39):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (24:40):
The down card? Some of these fights a guy called
Dom the Troll against Tommy Tough Knuckles. What are we doing.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
Tommy Tough Knuckles?
Speaker 2 (24:48):
That sounded like some dude that you went to college
with who would just spend a lot of his time
at the bar.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
I'm looking at some of his undercard. I don't think
it's a heavyweight division. I think it's the overweight division.
Some guy named No Neck Jay again, Shane Chance Litas Claris.
Speaker 3 (25:03):
Yeah, I'm looking at this picture, yo, fam, he doesn't
have a next. It ain't the.
Speaker 1 (25:08):
Heavyweight division, that's the overweight division.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
You know who I blame for this, man? I blame
Jake Paul for this.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
I blame them man, because they made a mockery out
of a sport that I love growing up, which is boxing.
Now you have so many reality TV stars Johnny Manzel,
no neck, What no Neck?
Speaker 1 (25:29):
Jake No Neck j against Shane Chance, and both these
guys look like they just got up off the couch
after polishing, polishing off twenty bags of Dorito's, don't I
don't know.
Speaker 3 (25:40):
You got to think about it.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
I think the company that's putting on this fight, I
think it's called Brand Risk Promotions. I mean, it's kind
of says it in the name itself brand risk promotion.
This is a huge risk. But hey, listen, if these
guys want to jump in the ring and get their
head bashed in, and I don't know how much money
they get paid, probably not as much as Jake Paul.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
I'm not signing up to watch it.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
Oh, I'm not watching this. I know I'm gonna spend
more time talking about this and watching about it than
watching it. I'm just I'm wondering what we're doing here.
I mean this, this seems like the silliest, stupidest thing
I've ever heard. Who's who? What market is there for this?
Speaker 2 (26:17):
Well, apparently once again based on Jake Paul and the
number of people that he has fought, right fighting Mike
Tyson fighting the fight with Floyd Mayweather.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
Yeah he's fighting.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
These guys are like sixty years old.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
Yes, but fans are now looking at this.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
Is now being boxing because boxing kind of fell off.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
Let's be totally honest.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
Well, MMA got you know, MMA out. You know, we
see MMA is entirely different. Yeah, I mean, they're own
a whole different category that's different from this washed up,
water down stuff that's being presented now.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
And some fans want to see it.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
Because these are reality TV stars, guys who you know,
were in different professional occupations. Now they're getting into the ring,
and I think fans want to tune in just for
not to support itself, just for the laugh factor and
just what happens. If it is a good fight, so
be it. But it hasn't really been any good fights.
Speaker 3 (27:09):
As of late.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
Yeah, and that's I think. The other thing is the
lack of star power in boxing, you know, has has
diminished the sport as well. They just they haven't found
a way to market things. You can't you never know
who's a champ because you know, you don't have unified
belts and all this stuff. It's just it's it's annoying,
and it's allowed the sport to come to this where
it's more spectacle than sport anymore. Yeah, I mean, in
more power to you for secure the bag. But I'm
(27:31):
not watching Johnny Manziel take on Bob Menery. I'm just not.
I can't. And I'm not watching ray J fight some
other unknown rapper.
Speaker 2 (27:37):
I mean, real talk, that's funny as hell, Like that's funny.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
Ray J.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
I don't even know the other guy, and he's about
to get you know, and the other guy's about the
stamp ray j That's just it's ridiculous. Iowa is hiring
long time NFL O if it's a coordinator. Tom Moore,
Peyton Manning's offensive coordinator with the Colt said his retirement
apparently not. He is a senior consultant to the head
coach and an offensive advisor.
Speaker 3 (28:02):
More.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
He is eighty seven years old. He played quarterback at
IOWA in the late nineteen fifties.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
Wow, I mean, look, man, I met Tom Moore when
I went down and visited Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year,
and he's a football guy man, through and through. You wonder, Okay, well,
why is it that he's still doing at that age.
It's not just the fact that he's being a football guy.
But here's what we do know. People retire, you know,
(28:33):
we just retire from life. And sometimes when you're that old,
you're so regimented as a person that spent time in
the service. You should understand what that looks like and
why that is so important. Because you retire, you shut
everything down. Then all of a sudden, your body, your mind,
it shuts down too. But still being and what he's
going to be a consultant.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
Yeah, he's a excuse me, he's a senior consultant to
the head coach and offensive advice.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
That means you have some wisdom in the room from
years of football dealing with a guy like maybe Tom Brady,
Baker Mayfield and more importantly paid Manning. I just can't
sit at home. So I'm gonna give you a job.
You're gonna sit here, We're gonna talk ball just a little,
and that's.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
Gonna be fine.
Speaker 1 (29:21):
Years doesn't cover it, though. And this is this is
over half a century. He was playing quarterback at Iowa
in the late nineteen fifties. It's twenty twenty six. This
is seventy six years ago. He was playing quarterback at Iowa.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
Hey, man, they say, Man, it's never too late to
go back home.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
I might be a little too late. I mean a
good congratulations to him eighty seven years young. But my goodness.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
So if there's area lungs and you can still walk
from point A to point B, it's always opportunity to.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
Go home to retire. Man, is he eighty seven?
Speaker 2 (29:50):
Man, there's no such thing as retiring. Look, man, at
his age, when you retire, you really retire.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
Yeah, yeah, you just yes, he's not trying to do that.
This I mean, wow, I mean it's and Tom Moore's
a great guy. But at eighty seven years old, you
played quarterback at IOWA in the late nineteen fifties.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
My goodness, look man, that first of all, it is
a blessing to be above ground and still have some
mental faculties about yourself. So I'm like, man, hell ride
it to the wills fall off and guess what, you're
a senior consultant. You consult does mean you tell throw
the ball here, throw the ball there.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
That's about it.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
Yeah, I don't know what his actual input will be,
but that is it's just fascinating to me that, you know,
a guy is is seventy years or sixty some odd
years later going back to his alma mater as as
an offensives. Not that Iowa's offense has changed that much
in the last sixty years anyway, it's a you know,
it'sigh formation football, but you know, I that's it's just
(30:54):
fascinating to me. I guess I don't know. The Broncos
made a couple of moves today because they added Michael
Woods and Paul Manning from rookie tryout. They released corner
will Wright. Not many people knew who that was. But
the other name they released Adduce Vaughan, the running back
they released Von today.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
Wow, Okay, well, I mean, I'm not gonna say I'm
too shock. We knew that it was gonna happen eventually,
and I guess I was expecting Deuce Van to get
an opportunity so we can see what he can do in.
Speaker 3 (31:19):
The Broncos uniform.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
And maybe when the Broncos tried to get down to
their final roster then that Deuce was going to be
a late cut. But that running back room was packed. Obviously,
the Broncos saw something and some of these young guys
that they decided to create some room, create some opportunity
for them. So I mean, I wish Deuce all the
luck in the world. Hopefully he lands with another team,
(31:41):
maybe he can go back to the Cowboys. But this
is par for the course, man. These are some of
the things that happened. You have to find a way
to make somewhat of an impression, and Deuce was in
a very tough spot because he never got a chance
to really get on the field for an active game.
So it's one of these things. Man, I wish him
the best.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
Yeah, And what a great story it was when Duce
got drafted by the Cowboys. Of course his dad works
in that organization and everything. Got to make the phone
call and you know, that's that was pretty cool. It's
it was one of those feel good stories, although it
is probably you know, it was a marginal NFL kind
of kind of talent as far as that kind of
stuff went.
Speaker 3 (32:17):
Brought him in here to kind of see if it
was he's marginal talent, because is that a shot at
his height?
Speaker 1 (32:23):
No, I would never I would never do something like that.
I you know, I just because Verne Troyer has signed
up for the movie rights to play him doesn't mean that,
you know that we have to say anything about his height.
You know, it was it just was it wasn't feel
good story, and and you know, I hope I hope
he latches on somewhere. I just you know, I mean,
I don't know where that will be. And why what
(32:44):
that would you know what that would be a couple
of the things we saw. The Bengals and Falcons are
getting the international game in Madrid that'll be in week nine,
broadcast on the NFL network. I don't know if if
anybody cares about that one. Romeo Dubbs, who signed with
the Patriots, continues to say that he's open to all
(33:06):
roles if they do bring in A J. Brown, which
seems like a foregone conclusion here next month after the
June first date, that they will ultimately bring in AJ
Brown from the Eagles.
Speaker 3 (33:19):
Hmm, very interesting.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
A J. Brown to the Eagles, no to the Patriots,
from the I mean to the Patriotscuse me. I mean
it seem as though a couple of guys made mention
of that early on in the process during free agency,
and I would like to give them a little credit,
you know, the Dudes on Dudes Podcast, your favorite. Yes,
(33:44):
they brought that up. Yes, yes, to do yeah, little
projecting in prediction they did. I would sign up to
watch Julian that don't have been a Rock Gronkowski fight.
But I'm not here for Johnny Manziel at Ray J.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
That's funny as there.
Speaker 1 (33:59):
I'm just saying. It's just it's one of those things
that I'm like, Man, I still can't get over that.
I don't know what what we're doing. Boxing boxing has
become a joke because it is. It's it's a spectacle now,
and I think you're right, I think, but the Paul
Brothers have turned it into you know, this, this spectacle
instead of the sport, the sweet science that it used
to be, and change the game that I love. Yeah,
and it's it's it's embarrassing, Like I'm not paying for that.
(34:19):
And if it's on something that i'm that I have,
I'm definitely not watching it. So like, what what what
is the desired ALC? What are you watching for? To
watch Johnny Manziel get knocked out by a YouTuber does voiceover.
Speaker 2 (34:29):
It's like a comedy show. Yeah, right, you're there. You're
therefore for the.
Speaker 1 (34:34):
Jokes, then the punchline. Yeah, and there for the punchline.
I guess yeah, I did. I gotta go wash my
ears out with soap now. Broncos Country tonight back after
this
