All Broncos training camp excited. Actually, we got a lot
to talk about.

You know, it's the dead point of the sports calendar,
but especially the sports calendar here in Denver where it's
such a Broncos centric, Broncos focused town, and yet still
we've got loads and loads of stuff to talk about,
some silly stuff, some heavier stuff. I gotta start with
some of the silly stuff. This Broncos boat picture. I

don't know if you've seen this. It's been making the
rounds on social media. I know Zach Stevens posted it,
so if you haven't, you can go find it over there.
But the Broncos offense, I'm Ellener was the one who
planned it as an Austin native, went down to the Austin,
Texas area. I think Lake Travis or Lake Austin, one
of the two voted around, had a fun little summer getaway.

It was a bunch of offensive, skilled players and talent.
In the photo, you've got you know, Bo Nix, Adam Troutman,
Sam Ellinger, Pat Bryant's there. I think Jonah Coleman's the
only one of the running backs oddly actually looking at that.

Maybe that's that's R. J. Harvey.

Hard to tell with the shades, but you've got a
collection of the Broncos skilled position town of course, Cortland
Sutton's there, and I've seen, you know, if one person
was saying it, it'd be pretty easy to dismiss. I've
seen a shocking number of Broncos fans, members of Broncos country,

very worried about this image. And it's not showing oh
Bo's ankle that looks so weird in that photo. There's
no good reason. Well let's just get ahead of that
right now. That people are horribly worried about this image
because the Giants in twenty seventeen took a boat pick

and if you've been following much of the NFL, the
Giants really haven't been good since twenty seventeen. Made the
playoffs just once it got knocked out in the second round.
And you know, outside of that one year, it's been
I think they only have one other season where they've
won five plus games. It's been brutal to be a

Giants fan over this stretch, no doubt about it. One
I think we can all rationally say boat pick probably
doesn't have anything to do with it. Right, ownership hired
a series of awful coaches. Right, there's Ben mcado. That
one didn't really work out. Pat Shermer was that team's
head coach for a little bit. Was it the mysticism

of the boat pick or the fact that Pat Shermer,
a guy who this whole market recoils at the idea
of him being an offensive coordinator at.

Do you think it might be that that guy was
the head coach of the team. Right then they went
to Joe Judge, you know, because all the Bill Belichick
disciples worked so great, they wanted to get Bill Belichick's
special teams coordinator. Right, that one didn't work out. Brian Dable,
that had a moment, that had a year that was fun,

but then you kind of saddled him with a questionable
general manager. And now you find yourself here. Also, once
you moved on from Eli Manning. You couldn't find a quarterback, right,
It's probably more that than the mysticism.

Famously, right after taking that boat Pick, the Giants lost
a playoff game in horrific fashion. That's a problematic time
to be taking a vacation, right. We're talking about a

going somewhere where it's warm enough to be taken an outdoor.

week before their first playoff game in five years, with
a rookie Odell Beckham junior leading the way. That's starkly
different from this is the deadest period of the year.
I kind of opened the show admitting that we don't
got mini camp going on, we don't have training camp

Everyone's on vacation, including coaches, including media members. Right. Reached

are a lot of people in this market right now.
It's okay, right, it seems like the problem is that

It's just it's so odd to me that people are
getting hung up on this.

and this one's just positive, not too heavy. But I
think it's just great to see and great to hear
that they're continuing to invest in this. The Broncos are expanding,
they're all in all covered initiative for there's a default.

I know we've had some Broncos people on the show
before talking about it.

Initiative to fund you know, every high school in the state,
make sure every high school football player in the state
has a quality helmet to work with.

It's been a great initiative.

You know, I used to work at Chassa actually before
I worked here, so I'm familiar somewhat with that side
of things. And you know, there are a lot of
schools all over the state, especially you know Western Range.
There are western slope, excuse me, out on the eastern
plains where they could absolutely use the help, you know,

Southern Colorado, Northern Colorado, and it's great to see the
Broncos do this. This new initiative is going even further though,
beyond the high school field. They're now going to be
helping youth football registration fees an underserved area, helping pay those,
and they're also making sure that youth football, which I

think is honestly maybe even more concerning than the high
school football with the CT and everything.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
They're making sure all.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
These youth football teams and flag teams have quality equipment
to work with. Their hope is to serve seventeen thousand
youth across the state. I don't know how many young
kids in Colorado are playing football, but that's got to
be an overwhelming number of them.

So I think that's tremendous.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
Again, just more evidence I think of this Broncos front
office stepping up and doing the right thing to you know,
make this team or make this city and this region
continue to be Broncos country. You know, they've they've always
this has been a Broncos town since they kind of
ros the prominence in the seventies and you feel that way. Man,

it was as good as the Abs and Nuggets were,
it wasn't a whole lot of fun around the city
of Denver when the Broncos were going through those dark ages.
And now they're back, And even though you know, maybe
the Aves and Nuggets have crested and they're they're cooling
back down, you've got the Broncos rising up and everyone's
getting excited again, and it's just fun time to be

around the city. Those Nuggets, though, I do think we
have to talk about them. I think Grant and I
are hoping to talk to some Nuggets people later in
the week, but with the Nuggets trading out of their
pick last night, tonight kind of kind of had to
pivot on that plan. All all the Nuggets reporters are
now working tonight trying to see who the Nuggets will pick.

And I think it's just the disparity and.

Ownership in moments like this is so stark. You know,
you see the Walton Penner group doing things they don't
have to do, right. I know people are annoyed about PSLs,
I get it, and everyone's seat prices are going to
go up, but that stadium, at least as of now,
sounds like it's going to be funded largely not entirely,

by the Waltons. That's something most of these owners don't do.
They're pouring money into, you know, upgrading that stadium district
around the area. They're pouring money into youth sports in Colorado,
high school sports in Colorado. You know, I'm sure they're
getting some some nice image out of it, but making
sure kids are safe, that's a worthy cause. You know,
shelling out money for Sean Payton, one of the highest

paid coaches in the league. You know, shelling out to
keep George Payton along when you've got the Viking sniffing
around potentially interested a team he has a lot of
history with.

I don't know the specifics, I doubt that was super
cheap so franchise and again you see the.

Free agency spending, the retain of players, comfortability, shelling out money.
It's easy to take that for granted here in Denver,
but players like Khalil Mack, like Jalen Ramsey, you know,
star defenders in their prime have gotten traded by their
teams because ownership didn't want to shell out that type
of money. That's not a problem here with this ownership group.

It might be a problem with the Nuggets ownership group.
And that's the start.

Everyone in regards to the draft keeps talking about how
top priority needs to be keeping Peyton Watson, and I
get that. I would tend to agree that does have
to be the top priority. But they talked about how
well to do that, you might have to trade such
and such. You might have to create, you know, some
trades you might have to ship off Zeke Naugy to

get under the less can the frustrating element of that.

Talked about that with Nick ferguson last night.

It's not necessary, It really isn't They're going to do
it seemingly, but they could go over the luxury tax,
and I'd argue they should. It's easy for me to say,
is a guy who's not the one writing the checks,
but that operation professional sports franchise is in modern America

print money, including the Denver Nuggets, print money. It's a
money machine. So why all these owners want to buy
them for five ten million dollars. It is a golden
goose that lays golden eggs for you. It's it's wonderful
and the idea that a man. I can't shell out
for that golden goose to have a nice bet. I

can't shell out for nikola Jokic, who I think everyone
unanimously agrees as a top fifteen top twenty player all time.
Consider how many of those top fifteen top twenty players
played for the Lakers or the Celtics. About fifteen teams
about half the league has never in the entire history
of basketball had a player on their franchise as good

as Nikolai Jokich. And if you want to consider his selflessness,
you know the way he elevates all the talent around him,
you know, the low drama, the low ego factor. There,
how many more stars have been more conducive to winning
than him in the history of the league. It's maybe ten, right,

and then those ten names are going to be Tim
Duncan and Lebron James and Michael Jordan and Steph Curry.
It's going to be Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Kareem. It's
those guys. And to have that window and the windows
starting to close, we all see it there. They were
closer against the te Wolves, you know, than they were

against the I guess they were closer against the Thunder
the prior year, but if they get past the t Wolves,
they might win the whole thing, same thing with the Thunder,
And then this year they're out in the first round too.
Of Aunt Edwards lists, Dante Devincenzo list T Wolves squad.
You can see the window and I don't think it's closed,
but it is closine. What are you gonna do about that?

Are you just gonna twiddle your thumbs? Because again, odds
are they're not going to get another Jokich. They might,
but if you look at the teams that have repeatedly
had that level of talent, it is the Lakers, it
is the the you know, Boston Celtics.

It's a few rare franchises, not even a market thing.

Look at the Knicks, fifty three years without a championship.
When was the last time they had a player as
good as Yokich? Probably never right, Look at all these teams, it's.

Just look at the Bulls. Michael Jordan.

You would have thought that would have turned the franchise around,
major market.

He turned that culture around.

If you watch Last Dance and he talks about it
was the traveling cocaine circus before I got here, and
he turned it into the most serious, we're about winning
franchise on the planet arguably for a period of the nineties,
and then he leaves and it immediately reverts to one
of the least impressive NBA franchises out there. I don't

think the Nuggets collapse will be, you know, that dreadful.
They've been pretty consistently competitive for the most part for
twenty years now, you know, dating back before Jokich. But
there's no guarantees in this world. And if you were
just a betting man playing the numbers, you're probably never
gonna have it this good, or at the very least,
it's going to be decades until you have it this good.

Who knows if Josh Cronky's running things by the time
the next Nikola Jokic is in Denver, if that ever happens.
So why not push your chips in now. It's not
that if you do so, the franchise isn't going to
make money for you, or it's going to be a
bad investment, or you're suddenly going to be in the
red right, It's none.

Of those things.

You have a chance to And also think about how
much Yokic has done for this franchise in terms of profitability,
but also in terms of just visibility, respectability. I think
about all the Yolkish has done for this franchise, selflessness.
You have a chance to do a solid by that guy,
Do a solid by all your fans, the ones you
deprived of being able to watch your games even and

just try to win, which, by the way, should be
the job. It's not like we're asking him to make
all the beers in the arena free, right, that's not
the solid grass as before. Do everything you can to win,
as is supposed to be the job of a sports
exec right. But they won't do that, And why not.

If the Broncos were in this position, what do you
think happens? I bet they restructure bow Let's just live
in a hypothetical world where oh, man, roster's getting tight
and we got bow Nicks make it. He's got a
fifty million dollars cap hit this year. God, maybe the
windows passed us by. We got that one super Bowl.
We'd love to win another before Peyton calls it quits.

Gosh, what are man? And how can we add talent?
We could get this?

Really, there's moves on the table where we could you know,
add great talent.

But oh it's going to be costly.

It's gonna cost us, you know, tens, maybe fifty plus
million dollars to invest in this thing and make it
the championship contender it could be.

Does anyone think and text ten? If you do, I'd
be curious.

Does anyone think the Walton Penner group in that setting
is dragging their feet for a second, right, the same
people that are pouring I don't know the numbers, but
I'd figure hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not billions
into just making sure the high school kids around the
state have helmets. They're gonna be dragging their feet to

like add a Miles Garrett or you know, again, if
we want to use the Peyton Watson example, if Pat
Bryant becomes, you know, in his final year of his
rookie deal, starts looking like the upcoming superstar receiver or
a borderline star receiver, it's a thousand yards.

Do you think they're letting him walk?

Or do you think they're being creative with the cap
paying a lot of money upfront to make it work,
and then making it work to keep the team talented,
to keep the team good. I would strongly assume the latter,
just because of everything they've demonstrated to this point. Here's

and then we can flip it look at the We
can look at the Nuggets track record and think what
the Broncos would do in that situation. How about the
Broncos track record and what the Nuggets would do in
that situation. Obviously, NBA contracts are guaranteed you can't get
out of them. But let's say the Cronkeys owned the
Denver Broncos. Do you think they're shelling out eighty five
million dollars for Russell Wilson to pay to play elsewhere

when they are struggling to shell out forty billion dollars
for Peyton Watson to play here. I doubt it, And
I think that's so frustrating, because, man, you see the
Broncos in the level of competition they have, everyone understandably
thinks it's Super Bowl or bust. The Broncos have a
great roster, they have a very good coach, They've got

a promising young quarterback. The Nuggets have the best player
in the world who's most conducive to winning in a
sport where that one figure carries more weight than anything else.
Imaginable teams will intentionally lose games for five years straight
hoping they land someone ninety percent as good as Yokich is.

Right now, time to push the chips in, and.

I think it's time for the pressure to heat up
a little on the Denver Nuggets and frankly the Avs too.

As you know, this city isn't championship starved, but it's
the city.

Has high standards, as it should, and some franchises I
think are more in line with those standards than others.
Right now, we'll get more into how that Broncos outlook is,
how how strong it is, is they chase a super
Bowl coming up after this break, and then right around

let this work out, and he's probably gonna land with
the Commanders. It's either going to be this year or
next year, but it's almost certainly gonna happen unless the

his contract for him to not play for them, which

seems incredibly unlikely. That are either be this year or
next year, depending on what worked best for the forty
nine Ers books, and yet still he keeps stirring the pot.

That's typically not the move of a super secure head coach.
The reason he did that he's on the hot seat.
He needs results this season. On one hand, maybe Brandon
Ayusa goes back to being a top ten wide receiver the.

League, and that helped this team get some wins.

But that seems much less likely, especially considering we haven't
seen the guy play football and coming up on two
years now seems much less likely than him being a
horrific distraction like he cannot and I think this situation
evidences that.

Pretty clearly.

He would only be served by just letting this thing die,
hoping the forty nine ers aren't mad at him releasing
him and that way he can play football. The only
way he's able to play football is if the Niners
work with him, and he is pouring all the kerosene
in the world on that bridge and then dancing over
the flames.

I mean, it's maddening to me.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
It doesn't align at all with in theory, what is
his own best interest, what he should be pursuing, and
yet he just continues to double and triple down. And
I only highlight that the aspect of man, this is
in your own best interest, and you still can't keep
your foot out of your own mouth. If I'm dan Quinn,

if I'm the Commanders, why do I think you're gonna
be quiet after our Week four loss where you only
got three targets? You know that's gonna be a big
red flag to be you can't keep your mouth shut
now in the middle of off season, when nothing's going on,
you could just like, nothing's re sparking this.

Except for Brandon Ayuk.

He could just let it die and that'd be best
for him, and he can't even stand that. So once
bullets are actually flying in season, you're gonna be all silent.
That doesn't make sense, that doesn't seem to align with
everything you're showing us. If I was the Commanders, I
kind of hope the forty nine Ers slow play this thing.
At least if I'm a im Peter's maybe dan Quinn

really wants the reinforcements of wide receiver. But if I'm
that GM and probably have another head coach hire to
work with, have a bit of a longer runway.

But let's let him, you know, maybe take some medicine
this season and let that forty nine Ers situation play

and arrow. It reminds me of of I guess Marshawn
Lynch retired for like a year and a half or so,

you know, still had some gas left in the tank.
It wasn't like a late stage retirement comes back for
the Raiders, but he was never the same guy. I
just don't think there's any and if there are, I
think they're very few and far between examples of skill
position players being gone for two years, especially if that
absence is tied.

You know, last year he didn't play at all because
he went MIA on the forty nine ers, but he
was recovering from an ACL tear, a late season ACL taar.
We haven't seen the guy in two almost two years,
and the last time we saw him, he was dealing
with a horrific injury. That's not a gamble a lot

of head coaches want to take, or GM should want
to take, and with good reason. You know, I was
a big ayuk Ayuk saw my Dynasty team.

I'm stuck with the guy. But you know, it's crazy because.

If he could put it all together, we saw it
his last year in San Francisco. He is a top
ten maybe even bordering on top five receiver. A lot
of metrics had him as like the most productive receiver
in the league. He was perfect for that Kyle Shanahan offense.
That Kyle Shanahan offense wants an elite, hyper athletic X receiver.

You know, when has it been at its best When
it had Andre Johnson and Houston, when it had Julio
Jones in Atlanta, right right right? Those are the archetypes,
and branded Ayuk was looking to be that next man up.
And now, you know, I've made it a question in
the six pack multiple times because I think it's a
good question. It's a thing I wonder myself. Now, are

we ever going to see Brandon Ayuk play high end
football again? You know? And with every passing day, I think,
are we going to see you play NFL football again?
Becomes a harder and harder question to answer. Every Instagram
story he uploads, I think it becomes a little less likely,

you know, and again hard to come back and return
to being an elite receiver. That aside, I don't even
know if the guy's going to play anymore. Sure, I'm
sure the UFL or someone will give him a shot,
so we probably play football again.

But I think he's.

Really starting to wear people's patients down on that fl stage.
I just it doesn't make sense to me. It's the
I don't know why. It's always receivers too. It seems
we saw Antonio Brown self destruct like this, trell Owens
and Chidou Chousinko.

It's it's odd.

That that position seems to just again implode like this
in a way that no other position seemingly does. But
thankfully Broncos don't have that problem. They got a lot
of guys with their heads on straight. Though Marvin Vimce
is becoming a squeaky wheel. He might be looking for
some grease. We'll talk about that. It's going right on

down the line to their thirty fifth overall selection in
the twenty twenty sixth NBA Draft. It's going to be
Travon Brazil, I believe, Brazil out of Arkansas. It's going
to be the thirty fifth overall pick. He's coming to
the Bronco or excuse me, coming to the Nuggets from
the San Antonio Spurs. As the Nuggets get on the board,

he's going to be a stretch four out of Arkansas.
You know, again, he's a fifth year senior, so that's
maybe not ideal, But thirty fifth pick in the draft.
You know, we'll see hopefully he can help replace maybe
some of that athleticism they were so sorely missing in
the play without Aaron Gordon and Peyton Watson. You know,
I think that first round really highlighted the need for

more athleticism, and hopefully he can help bring that to
the to the mix.

It sounds like he's a great, you know, dunker lob
threat type, so you know, maybe they can tap into that.
Maybe they can get something out of Darnay Holmes. They
need some of those U three enforcements, especially in the
front court, so hope those come through sooner rather than later.
On a funnier note, I think a lighter note to

you know, send us in to the next hour on
you know, Broncos country hasn't been so thrilled with the
most recent first round pick, jad A Baron, you know,
struggling to get on the field, limited impact, and then
I think some of the frustration is, hey, this is
a team trying to win now, trying to compete for
a Super Bowl. It'd be nice if they had a

first round pick from the twenty twenty five draft class
starting for them, right, I think that's the sentiment. Well,
look on the bright side, at least you're not in
the position the La Rams are in right now where
no team in the NFL really, frankly, no team I
can ever remember, has been more all in than the
twenty twenty six Rams. And they're now in a position

ty Simpson has yet to separate from Stetson Bennett for

National Championship quarterback Stetson Bennett a few years back after
winning that championship for Georgia, and he really has never.

I think he had a terrible preseason a regular season
game where he threw a bevy of interceptions. He was
supposed to be the plan for after Stafford, and the
fact that they took ty Simpson at thirteen demonstrated they

And yet still Simpson has yet to separate from Stenson
Bennett in that race. And this is the guy who's

retired this offseason after being the rams backup quarterback. And
the Rams, despite spending a top fifteen pick on a quarterback,
are sitting here in June soon to be July, not
feeling confident about their backup plan for their forty year

You know, it's the dead point of the sports calendar,
but especially the sports calendar here in Denver where it's
such a Broncos centric, Broncos focused town, and yet still
we've got loads and loads of stuff to talk about,
some silly stuff, some heavier stuff. I gotta start with
some of the silly stuff. This Broncos boat picture. I

don't know if you've seen this. It's been making the
rounds on social media. I know Zach Stevens posted it,
so if you haven't, you can go find it over there.
But the Broncos offense, I'm Ellener was the one who
planned it as an Austin native, went down to the Austin,
Texas area. I think Lake Travis or Lake Austin, one
of the two voted around, had a fun little summer getaway.

It was a bunch of offensive, skilled players and talent.
In the photo, you've got you know, Bo Nix, Adam Troutman,
Sam Ellinger, Pat Bryant's there. I think Jonah Coleman's the
only one of the running backs oddly actually looking at that.

Maybe that's that's R. J. Harvey.

Hard to tell with the shades, but you've got a
collection of the Broncos skilled position town of course, Cortland
Sutton's there, and I've seen, you know, if one person
was saying it, it'd be pretty easy to dismiss. I've
seen a shocking number of Broncos fans, members of Broncos country,

very worried about this image. And it's not showing oh
Bo's ankle that looks so weird in that photo. There's
no good reason. Well let's just get ahead of that
right now. That people are horribly worried about this image
because the Giants in twenty seventeen took a boat pick

and if you've been following much of the NFL, the
Giants really haven't been good since twenty seventeen. Made the
playoffs just once it got knocked out in the second round.
And you know, outside of that one year, it's been
I think they only have one other season where they've
won five plus games. It's been brutal to be a

Giants fan over this stretch, no doubt about it. One
I think we can all rationally say boat pick probably
doesn't have anything to do with it. Right, ownership hired
a series of awful coaches. Right, there's Ben mcado. That
one didn't really work out. Pat Shermer was that team's
head coach for a little bit. Was it the mysticism

of the boat pick or the fact that Pat Shermer,
a guy who this whole market recoils at the idea
of him being an offensive coordinator at.

The pro or college level?

Do you think it might be that that guy was
the head coach of the team. Right then they went
to Joe Judge, you know, because all the Bill Belichick
disciples worked so great, they wanted to get Bill Belichick's
special teams coordinator. Right, that one didn't work out. Brian Dable,
that had a moment, that had a year that was fun,

but then you kind of saddled him with a questionable
general manager. And now you find yourself here. Also, once
you moved on from Eli Manning. You couldn't find a quarterback, right,
It's probably more that than the mysticism.

Famously, right after taking that boat Pick, the Giants lost
a playoff game in horrific fashion. That's a problematic time
to be taking a vacation, right. We're talking about a

We're on the front of the yacht boat Pick, a
week before their first playoff game in five years, with
a rookie Odell Beckham junior leading the way. That's starkly
different from this is the deadest period of the year.

got mini camp going on, we don't have training camp

Initiative to fund you know, every high school in the state,
make sure every high school football player in the state
has a quality helmet to work with.

It's been a great initiative.

You know, I used to work at Chassa actually before
I worked here, so I'm familiar somewhat with that side
of things. And you know, there are a lot of
schools all over the state, especially you know Western Range.
There are western slope, excuse me, out on the eastern
plains where they could absolutely use the help, you know,

Southern Colorado, Northern Colorado, and it's great to see the
Broncos do this. This new initiative is going even further though,
beyond the high school field. They're now going to be
helping youth football registration fees an underserved area, helping pay those,
and they're also making sure that youth football, which I

think is honestly maybe even more concerning than the high
school football with the CT and everything.

They're making sure all.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
These youth football teams and flag teams have quality equipment
to work with. Their hope is to serve seventeen thousand
youth across the state. I don't know how many young
kids in Colorado are playing football, but that's got to
be an overwhelming number of them.

So I think that's tremendous.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
Again, just more evidence I think of this Broncos front
office stepping up and doing the right thing to you know,
make this team or make this city and this region
continue to be Broncos country. You know, they've they've always
this has been a Broncos town since they kind of
ros the prominence in the seventies and you feel that way. Man,

it was as good as the Abs and Nuggets were,
it wasn't a whole lot of fun around the city
of Denver when the Broncos were going through those dark ages.
And now they're back, And even though you know, maybe
the Aves and Nuggets have crested and they're they're cooling
back down, you've got the Broncos rising up and everyone's
getting excited again, and it's just fun time to be

around the city. Those Nuggets, though, I do think we
have to talk about them. I think Grant and I
are hoping to talk to some Nuggets people later in
the week, but with the Nuggets trading out of their
pick last night, tonight kind of kind of had to
pivot on that plan. All all the Nuggets reporters are
now working tonight trying to see who the Nuggets will pick.

And I think it's just the disparity and.

Ownership in moments like this is so stark. You know,
you see the Walton Penner group doing things they don't
have to do, right. I know people are annoyed about PSLs,
I get it, and everyone's seat prices are going to
go up, but that stadium, at least as of now,
sounds like it's going to be funded largely not entirely,

by the Waltons. That's something most of these owners don't do.
They're pouring money into, you know, upgrading that stadium district
around the area. They're pouring money into youth sports in Colorado,
high school sports in Colorado. You know, I'm sure they're
getting some some nice image out of it, but making
sure kids are safe, that's a worthy cause. You know,
shelling out money for Sean Payton, one of the highest

paid coaches in the league. You know, shelling out to
keep George Payton along when you've got the Viking sniffing
around potentially interested a team he has a lot of
history with.

I don't know the specifics, I doubt that was super
cheap so franchise and again you see the.

Free agency spending, the retain of players, comfortability, shelling out money.
It's easy to take that for granted here in Denver,
but players like Khalil Mack, like Jalen Ramsey, you know,
star defenders in their prime have gotten traded by their
teams because ownership didn't want to shell out that type
of money. That's not a problem here with this ownership group.

It might be a problem with the Nuggets ownership group.
And that's the start.

Everyone in regards to the draft keeps talking about how
top priority needs to be keeping Peyton Watson, and I
get that. I would tend to agree that does have
to be the top priority. But they talked about how
well to do that, you might have to trade such
and such. You might have to create, you know, some
trades you might have to ship off Zeke Naugy to

get under the less can the frustrating element of that.

Talked about that with Nick ferguson last night.

It's not necessary, It really isn't They're going to do
it seemingly, but they could go over the luxury tax,
and I'd argue they should. It's easy for me to say,
is a guy who's not the one writing the checks,
but that operation professional sports franchise is in modern America

print money, including the Denver Nuggets, print money. It's a
money machine. So why all these owners want to buy
them for five ten million dollars. It is a golden
goose that lays golden eggs for you. It's it's wonderful
and the idea that a man. I can't shell out
for that golden goose to have a nice bet. I

can't shell out for nikola Jokic, who I think everyone
unanimously agrees as a top fifteen top twenty player all time.
Consider how many of those top fifteen top twenty players
played for the Lakers or the Celtics. About fifteen teams
about half the league has never in the entire history
of basketball had a player on their franchise as good

as Nikolai Jokich. And if you want to consider his selflessness,
you know the way he elevates all the talent around him,
you know, the low drama, the low ego factor. There,
how many more stars have been more conducive to winning
than him in the history of the league. It's maybe ten, right,

and then those ten names are going to be Tim
Duncan and Lebron James and Michael Jordan and Steph Curry.
It's going to be Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Kareem. It's
those guys. And to have that window and the windows
starting to close, we all see it there. They were
closer against the te Wolves, you know, than they were

against the I guess they were closer against the Thunder
the prior year, but if they get past the t Wolves,
they might win the whole thing, same thing with the Thunder,
And then this year they're out in the first round too.
Of Aunt Edwards lists, Dante Devincenzo list T Wolves squad.
You can see the window and I don't think it's closed,
but it is closine. What are you gonna do about that?

Are you just gonna twiddle your thumbs? Because again, odds
are they're not going to get another Jokich. They might,
but if you look at the teams that have repeatedly
had that level of talent, it is the Lakers, it
is the the you know, Boston Celtics.

It's a few rare franchises, not even a market thing.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
Look at the Knicks, fifty three years without a championship.
When was the last time they had a player as
good as Yokich? Probably never right, Look at all these teams, it's.

Just look at the Bulls. Michael Jordan.

You would have thought that would have turned the franchise around,
major market.

He turned that culture around.

If you watch Last Dance and he talks about it
was the traveling cocaine circus before I got here, and
he turned it into the most serious, we're about winning
franchise on the planet arguably for a period of the nineties,
and then he leaves and it immediately reverts to one
of the least impressive NBA franchises out there. I don't

think the Nuggets collapse will be, you know, that dreadful.
They've been pretty consistently competitive for the most part for
twenty years now, you know, dating back before Jokich. But
there's no guarantees in this world. And if you were
just a betting man playing the numbers, you're probably never
gonna have it this good, or at the very least,
it's going to be decades until you have it this good.

Who knows if Josh Cronky's running things by the time
the next Nikola Jokic is in Denver, if that ever happens.
So why not push your chips in now. It's not
that if you do so, the franchise isn't going to
make money for you, or it's going to be a
bad investment, or you're suddenly going to be in the
red right, It's none.

Of those things.

You have a chance to And also think about how
much Yokic has done for this franchise in terms of profitability,
but also in terms of just visibility, respectability. I think
about all the Yolkish has done for this franchise, selflessness.
You have a chance to do a solid by that guy,
Do a solid by all your fans, the ones you
deprived of being able to watch your games even and

just try to win, which, by the way, should be
the job. It's not like we're asking him to make
all the beers in the arena free, right, that's not
the solid grass as before. Do everything you can to win,
as is supposed to be the job of a sports
exec right. But they won't do that, And why not.

If the Broncos were in this position, what do you
think happens? I bet they restructure bow Let's just live
in a hypothetical world where oh, man, roster's getting tight
and we got bow Nicks make it. He's got a
fifty million dollars cap hit this year. God, maybe the
windows passed us by. We got that one super Bowl.
We'd love to win another before Peyton calls it quits.

Gosh, what are man? And how can we add talent?
We could get this?
Speaker 1 (14:59):
Really, there's moves on the table where we could you know,
add great talent.

But oh it's going to be costly.

It's gonna cost us, you know, tens, maybe fifty plus
million dollars to invest in this thing and make it
the championship contender it could be.

Does anyone think and text ten? If you do, I'd
be curious.

Does anyone think the Walton Penner group in that setting
is dragging their feet for a second, right, the same
people that are pouring I don't know the numbers, but
I'd figure hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not billions
into just making sure the high school kids around the
state have helmets. They're gonna be dragging their feet to

like add a Miles Garrett or you know, again, if
we want to use the Peyton Watson example, if Pat
Bryant becomes, you know, in his final year of his
rookie deal, starts looking like the upcoming superstar receiver or
a borderline star receiver, it's a thousand yards.

Do you think they're letting him walk?

Or do you think they're being creative with the cap
paying a lot of money upfront to make it work,
and then making it work to keep the team talented,
to keep the team good. I would strongly assume the latter,
just because of everything they've demonstrated to this point. Here's

and then we can flip it look at the We
can look at the Nuggets track record and think what
the Broncos would do in that situation. How about the
Broncos track record and what the Nuggets would do in
that situation. Obviously, NBA contracts are guaranteed you can't get
out of them. But let's say the Cronkeys owned the
Denver Broncos. Do you think they're shelling out eighty five
million dollars for Russell Wilson to pay to play elsewhere

when they are struggling to shell out forty billion dollars
for Peyton Watson to play here. I doubt it, And
I think that's so frustrating, because, man, you see the
Broncos in the level of competition they have, everyone understandably
thinks it's Super Bowl or bust. The Broncos have a
great roster, they have a very good coach, They've got

a promising young quarterback. The Nuggets have the best player
in the world who's most conducive to winning in a
sport where that one figure carries more weight than anything else.
Imaginable teams will intentionally lose games for five years straight
hoping they land someone ninety percent as good as Yokich is.

I think it's time for the pressure to heat up
a little on the Denver Nuggets and frankly the Avs too.

As you know, this city isn't championship starved, but it's

think are more in line with those standards than others.

That's typically not the move of a super secure head coach.
The reason he did that he's on the hot seat.
He needs results this season. On one hand, maybe Brandon
Ayusa goes back to being a top ten wide receiver the.

League, and that helped this team get some wins.

But that seems much less likely, especially considering we haven't
seen the guy play football and coming up on two
years now seems much less likely than him being a
horrific distraction like he cannot and I think this situation
evidences that.

He would only be served by just letting this thing die,
hoping the forty nine ers aren't mad at him releasing
him and that way he can play football. The only
way he's able to play football is if the Niners
work with him, and he is pouring all the kerosene
in the world on that bridge and then dancing over
the flames.

I mean, it's maddening to me.

It doesn't align at all with in theory, what is
his own best interest, what he should be pursuing, and
yet he just continues to double and triple down. And
I only highlight that the aspect of man, this is
in your own best interest, and you still can't keep
your foot out of your own mouth. If I'm dan Quinn,

if I'm the Commanders, why do I think you're gonna
be quiet after our Week four loss where you only
got three targets? You know that's gonna be a big
red flag to be you can't keep your mouth shut
now in the middle of off season, when nothing's going on,
you could just like, nothing's re sparking this.

He could just let it die and that'd be best
for him, and he can't even stand that. So once
bullets are actually flying in season, you're gonna be all silent.

kind of hope the forty nine Ers slow play this thing.

really wants the reinforcements of wide receiver. But if I'm
that GM and probably have another head coach hire to
work with, have a bit of a longer runway.

this season and let that forty nine Ers situation play

Lynch retired for like a year and a half or so,

It wasn't like a late stage retirement comes back for

just don't think there's any and if there are, I
think they're very few and far between examples of skill
position players being gone for two years, especially if that
absence is tied.

You know, last year he didn't play at all because
he went MIA on the forty nine ers, but he
was recovering from an ACL tear, a late season ACL taar.
We haven't seen the guy in two almost two years,
and the last time we saw him, he was dealing
with a horrific injury. That's not a gamble a lot

of head coaches want to take, or GM should want
to take, and with good reason. You know, I was
a big ayuk Ayuk saw my Dynasty team.

I'm stuck with the guy. But you know, it's crazy because.

If he could put it all together, we saw it
his last year in San Francisco. He is a top
ten maybe even bordering on top five receiver. A lot
of metrics had him as like the most productive receiver
in the league. He was perfect for that Kyle Shanahan offense.
That Kyle Shanahan offense wants an elite, hyper athletic X receiver.

You know, when has it been at its best When
it had Andre Johnson and Houston, when it had Julio
Jones in Atlanta, right right right? Those are the archetypes,
and branded Ayuk was looking to be that next man up.
And now, you know, I've made it a question in
the six pack multiple times because I think it's a
good question. It's a thing I wonder myself. Now, are

we ever going to see Brandon Ayuk play high end
football again? You know? And with every passing day, I think,
are we going to see you play NFL football again?
Becomes a harder and harder question to answer. Every Instagram
story he uploads, I think it becomes a little less likely,

you know, and again hard to come back and return
to being an elite receiver. That aside, I don't even
know if the guy's going to play anymore. Sure, I'm
sure the UFL or someone will give him a shot,
so we probably play football again.

Really starting to wear people's patients down on that fl stage.
I just it doesn't make sense to me. It's the
I don't know why. It's always receivers too. It seems
we saw Antonio Brown self destruct like this, trell Owens

That that position seems to just again implode like this
in a way that no other position seemingly does. But
thankfully Broncos don't have that problem. They got a lot
of guys with their heads on straight. Though Marvin Vimce
is becoming a squeaky wheel. He might be looking for

down the line to their thirty fifth overall selection in
the twenty twenty sixth NBA Draft. It's going to be
Travon Brazil, I believe, Brazil out of Arkansas. It's going
to be the thirty fifth overall pick. He's coming to
the Bronco or excuse me, coming to the Nuggets from
the San Antonio Spurs. As the Nuggets get on the board,

he's going to be a stretch four out of Arkansas.
You know, again, he's a fifth year senior, so that's
maybe not ideal, But thirty fifth pick in the draft.
You know, we'll see hopefully he can help replace maybe
some of that athleticism they were so sorely missing in
the play without Aaron Gordon and Peyton Watson. You know,
I think that first round really highlighted the need for
(27:05):
more athleticism, and hopefully he can help bring that to
the to the mix.

It sounds like he's a great, you know, dunker lob
threat type, so you know, maybe they can tap into that.
Maybe they can get something out of Darnay Holmes. They
need some of those U three enforcements, especially in the
front court, so hope those come through sooner rather than later.
On a funnier note, I think a lighter note to
(27:32):
you know, send us in to the next hour on
you know, Broncos country hasn't been so thrilled with the
most recent first round pick, jad A Baron, you know,
struggling to get on the field, limited impact, and then
I think some of the frustration is, hey, this is
a team trying to win now, trying to compete for
a Super Bowl. It'd be nice if they had a

first round pick from the twenty twenty five draft class
starting for them, right, I think that's the sentiment. Well,
look on the bright side, at least you're not in
the position the La Rams are in right now where
no team in the NFL really, frankly, no team I
can ever remember, has been more all in than the
twenty twenty six Rams. And they're now in a position
(28:16):
where they picked a player top fifteen thanks to a
trade they made with the Falcons the past season. And
according to this latest report from the Athletics Nate Atkins,
ty Simpson has yet to separate from Stetson Bennett for
the QB two race.

For those that don't know, the Rams drafted.
Speaker 1 (28:38):
National Championship quarterback Stetson Bennett a few years back after
winning that championship for Georgia, and he really has never.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Done much of anything for them on the field.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
I think he had a terrible preseason a regular season
game where he threw a bevy of interceptions. He was
supposed to be the plan for after Stafford, and the
fact that they took ty Simpson at thirteen demonstrated they
were I'm.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
So happy with how that plan was looking.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
And yet still Simpson has yet to separate from Stenson
Bennett in that race. And this is the guy who's
there practice Washington play and seeing like, yikes, these guys
look rough, and according to his reporting asking people around
that Rams organization, they currently view quarterback two as a
significant need. And there's some pining for Jimmy Garoppolo, who
(29:30):
retired this offseason after being the rams backup quarterback. And
the Rams, despite spending a top fifteen pick on a quarterback,
are sitting here in June soon to be July, not
feeling confident about their backup plan for their forty year
old quarterback with back issues thirty nine.

Excuse me, that's struggling. That's a lot worse than John A. Baron.

Let me tell you that we'll get more into the Broncos.
This Marvin mim situation is starting to heat up. I
think it's going to be one of the more spicy
situations of training camp this year. All that coming up
