Coming off the final group stage game for the US
and the World Cup tonight, the result it didn't even
matter because they were so dominant in their first two games,
advancing to the knockout stage and winning their group. Looks
like they might play Bosnia Herznagovia. I'm sure I got
that wrong, but it looks like that's who they will
most likely be playing. That could change with the last
couple of group stage games coming up in the next

couple of days. But ma'am, what an exciting time for
the US soccer team to kind of take over the.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
Sports world here in the US.

And usually, you know, this is a downtime of sports
for US, and between the Nuggets and the ABS playoff
runs and Broncos training camp about to start up. But man,
we got something to cheer for this time, we really do.
It's so exciting.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
One of the old sports memories that really sticks with
me is going to some of the public watch parties
for the I would have been the twenty fourteen World Cup.
It must have been in Boulder, like on Pearl Street,
and it was just such a such a fun time,
and that US team wasn't as good as this one.
It was just like, well, I hope they can make
it out of the group of death or whatever. And

they held on and they made it. And I remember,
you know, seeing the parties in Chicago, and it was
a unifying experience I felt for like a lot of
this country and I thought that was really cool. And
this time around, it's like this unifying experience for the world,
at least from the American perspective, and it's been really
cool to experience. And this team is so great. Like
that's the other cool thing. The path is lining up

for him pretty well. Like you said, Bosnia and here's
a Govina is not the and they're not the most
threatening team and their second round opponent, I believe is
shaping up to be not too terrifying as well.

Yeah, and one of my favorite memories I think I
talked about this with Nick ferguson the other night. But
I was in Europe for the twenty fourteen World Cup,
which of course was in Brazil, but I got to
go to all these different watch parties and each country
while their team was playing, So we were in Netherlands
and Belgium.

And France and Germany. Wow.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
And one of my favorite memories from that trip, other
than that solidifying me as a soccer fan because of
how passionate and ravenous all most of the fan base is,
is being in a bar in Paris with a bunch
of other Americans and watching the US team win a
game to make it out of that group stage, and
it was like, Wow, this, I get why people are

obsessed with soccer now, and it's fun for the whole
world to get that feeling and to get to see,
like you said, get to see that different side of
the US than what they just hear through the news, because,
as we know, news is usually negative stories. And when
they get to see some of the better sides of
our country that they don't always come to light in
their newscasts or however they at their news these days,

it's really cool to see them experience things that we
kind of take for granted in our own country.

Now.

Yeah, and there's so many different amazing stories to see.
It seems like even more of a celebration than something
like the Olympics is, you know, every four years. It's
been so cool, and you know, there's a lot of
teams trying to win it all. There's teams just trying
to make it out of the group stage, and then
there's teams like you know, Cape Verde or Kira Style
(03:26):
where it's like, well, they scored their first World Cup
goal ever, where they got a point with a draw
for the first time ever. Watching Ghana hold on for
Dear life against England to pull a tie. I have
a friend who's from Ghana who lives here in Denver now,
and we were all kind.

Of in the groups.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
I worried for them, thinking that's probably going to be
a slaughter, and just watching them hold on for dear
life it was a blast.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
So I'm just loving it. Yeah, man.

And last night I was watching the Mexico game and
a stadio techa with like eighty five thousand people, and
they won, of course, but there was an awesome moment
towards the end of the game. There's this goalkeeper for
Mexico that has been around forever Ochoa and he's in
a six World Cup and he's been replaced. The passing
of the torches happened where a younger, better goal goalkeeper
(04:17):
is in net for them now. But they brought him
in in like the eightieth minute or something, and the
crowd just went insane, like it.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
Was such I got.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
I can getting goosebumps just talking about it right now.
Because even if we're not the biggest soccer fans, especially
here in Broncos country, you know, it's football, then hockey,
then basketball probably and then baseball with the Rockies. But
man like, just as a sports fan, those are the
moments you love to see. Is just these fan bases
absolutely losing their mind for a legend and the sport

and their country. And then he has a deep, long
pass down in the field and it's like one other
pass to another Mexican player and they score a goal
and he's pumping his fist to the crowd and I
was like, this is the beauty of sports right here.
And that's what I think, even if you're not the
biggest soccer fan, you can appreciate this moment that we're
living in and the greatness of.

It, it's it's fantastic.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
And the great thing about the US doing so well
is we get to enjoy a lot more of it hopefully.
You know, I mentioned the path earlier. They get almost
certainly Bosnia in this next round, and then after that
they're likely playing Egypt or South Korea, you know teams
they can be respectable teams but very beautible. After that
it might be Spain. But man, if you got to

the quarter finals, if you get to.

The finals on home soil, like that's going to create
a whole new generation of soccer fans because you're not
just hoping to make it out of the group stage anymore.
Like you said earlier in this segment, like this is
the best team we've probably ever had in the US,
and it's our golden generation.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
It's young.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
I remember the last time they kind of had a
bit of a meaningful team or a bit of a
meaningful push with like Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovo.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
It was Howard and end Goal.

It was the last gasps of those guys where they
were still the best, but you were definitely on the
back nine there. This is a team that feels like
it's ascending. Yes, Polistic is maybe in his primer on
the back half of it. This is probably his last
great World Cup or at the height of his powers,
but you've got so many other great talents coming up.

I think it's really exciting. Yeah, and man, I just
I love it.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
I'm glad that everyone else that normally doesn't want watch
soccer is getting a taste of it. And of course
you'll hear the rest of however many games the US
team has left right here on KOA eight fifty AM
and ninety four to one FM. Someone who just seems
to be reaching his peak or his prime as a player,
the Broncos, Marvin Mims, and he had an interesting quote
(06:41):
that is making the rounds here in Denver about how
he's in a contract year and he wants to be
with the Broncos, but they can't keep everyone.

Yeah, i'd be sweet.
Speaker 4 (06:51):
I think it'd be a huge like peace of mind
for me, just like situation wise. But all right, also,
you know, with me being Shawn's first draft class and
my contract here, you know it's gonna be me. Riley,
Drew Sanders, Jale Skinner, you know, Alex forside that whole
draft class and undrafted guys, you know, Julil, Nate Atkins.
So it's, uh, yeah, I'm kind of getting to the
point where it's like you can't keep everybody, you know,

and I feel like especially as a draft class, you know,
and the classes after us have performed really well, and
that's how you know you have really good scouts and
a really good front office. So we'll see what happens
if they want to retain who they want to keep.
But at the end of the day, I mean us
as players, fans, you guys know, they can't really keep everybody,
So we'll see what happens. And but I mean, if
this is my last year, I'll look forward to it
with these guys because I've had a great time here

in Denver past few years.

Man, I hope it is not his last year. He's
one of my favorite Broncos. I've loved his attitude throughout
his couple of years here, especially when I think, and
I'm sure he thinks as well, that he should be
on the field more when they're on the offensive side
of the ball. But such a game changer on special teams.
All Pro Pro bowler A couple of years and that respect.
Is this the last go round for Marvin mems as

the Denver Bronco. I, man, that's one of the greatest
mysteries of the season.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
I kind of fear so, in part because of what
you said. He understandably should have some confidence in himself that. Man,
if I get more opportunities, I could do a whole
lot more with this.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
I mean, he tore up my Cincinnati Bengals a couple
of years ago. Towards the end of the season, I
was like, Okay, he's definitely gonna be a staple of
the offense next year. And then it seemed like he
couldn't get on the field until injuries made him get
on the field last year, and then he made some
marks then as well.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
I talked about it last night.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
I think on a per target basis, he was the
best receiver the Broncos had last year. I think there's
maybe some other areas where you wish you were getting
more out of him, and maybe that's why he's not
getting as many targets as a Sutton or you know
whoever else, But on a per target basis, when the

ball did get thrown his way, I think you had
a positive outcome at a higher rate more than anyone else,
and a lot of tough catches, a lot of like
q huch plays.

That's the thing with him.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
He creates explosives NonStop and such a dynamic player with
the ball in his hands, and then he's one of
the most dynamic special teamers in the league. This was
the first year he didn't make All Pro, but it
wasn't like he took a big step as a returner.
He was still outstanding. Just some other guys had slightly
better years. It's going to be tough to keep him
(09:22):
because I think he's going to look at himself and go,
I should get paid like a legit starting receiver, you know,
ten to fifteen, maybe even plus million dollars a year,
and the Broncos right now only have twelve million to
work with. They got to resign Jaquon, they got to
resign Riley Matt all the guys he just rattled off.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
It's going to be tough, yeah, And I just don't
understand why he's not more involved. And then you see,
I mean, obviously we're all excited about the addition of
Jalen Wattle, but that kind of takes away what limited
role he had on that offense, because you got to
think Jalen Wattle is going to be out there on
the field as long as he's healthy ninety nine percent
of the time for the Broncos on offense. Let me
(10:05):
pose this question to you, if you had to choose
right now, would you rather keep Troy Franklin or Marvin Mims.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
Marvin Mims me, I think by far, and it's unfortunate
those contract situations maybe aren't reversed where you have the
longer runway with Mims than Franklin. I just think he
offers so much more utility. Now again, I don't know
if you'll ever take that leap as a receiver, because
it feels like we keep waiting for it to happen
and it just hasn't clicked yet. Now again, maybe that
(10:32):
is just situation, and once he gets elsewhere, you'll have
that like Shack Beart ascension. But he's at the very
least very useful even if he never takes another major
leap or another big stride in development. He's an extremely
explosive weapon, which is at a premium right now. He's
a guy where you can just give him the ball
and go. You can just drop designer place wherehim, give
(10:54):
him the ball in the short area and let him
pick up ten yards for you an easy first down.
He's amazing with the bon in his hands, and then
he's going to give you a lot of valuable special
teams contribution in a time where with the new return rules,
it's becoming more prevalent than ever. So I think someone
will get a great player, whether it's the Broncos or
someone else. But it's just it's this messy situation because
(11:17):
it seems like the Broncos, for whatever reason, don't trust
him as a legit wide receiver, and Mims is probably
going to want to get paid like a legit wide receiver,
and I don't know how you square that.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
And I think someone else will pay him, And who knows,
maybe this year and Davis Webb's offense. You know, we've
heard that it'll still mostly be Sean Payton's offense with
Davis Webb calling the plays, but maybe he'll draw up
a couple more plays for Marvin Mims and give him
another chance to prove himself as a legit wide receiver.
Here was Marvin Mems on thoughts of him already believing

he's proven himself.

You know, I think I've proved it, you know, time
and time again, you know, just in different stretches, you know,
different opportunities.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
Come and seek.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
I mean, I feel as if the coach chak kind
of knows what they're going to get for me. You know,
I love MAGA players. I love being out there doing
the things that I can do. And really it's just
wherever the team meets from me, you know. And yeah,
sometimes I'm not in the most fortunate situation. Sometimes I
am a little irritated with my situation. By the end
of the day, I'm blessed to me why I am today,
you were saying, right here where I am. And I
love him for I loved the city, I love the
(12:14):
fans of that to real, let my teammates, let my coaches,
So you know, with this possibly be in my last year,
I'm just Georgia the full less going to it, you know,
care free and just play my hardest because we have
a real chance to do something extremely specialized.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
And I think that's an important point he added in
there at the end, was that they do have a
real chance to do something special. They are a Super
Bowl contender. So even if he is a little bit
unhappy with his role, I mean, that's what you play
the game for. That's what you grow up as a
kid dreaming of, is your chance to make an impact
in a Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
And I think he realizes that.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
Like you can tell, he's clearly frustrated with the situation,
but he's still saying all the right things, which may
lead to maybe some possible way of them being able
to keep him around after this season.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
Yeah, and one's hopeful, right, because you really loves Denver.
He's saying the right things. I definitely think that speaks
to a maturity. It just seems like, again, you haven't
been able to square the thing on the field with
getting him more opportunities for whatever reason. Right, every week
we're hearing Sean Payton say, oh, we got to get
him more reps and then it doesn't happen.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
Yeah, And it's like Ben says all the time, like,
aren't you Sean Payton the guy that's in charge of
getting him more reps?
Speaker 3 (13:25):
And so here's the thing. I don't think Sean Payton's
that forgetful. No, I think he's smart enough to not
throw Marvin Mims under the bus to the media, and
there's some reason. We don't know what it is from
our outside perspective, but there's probably some reason inside that
building he's not getting those opportunities. Marvin Mims very understandably
thinks he is deserving of those opportunities.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
Wants him.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
I think unless you square that, and hey, we got
seventeen plus games, you very well could this year. Unless
you square that, I don't know how he stays in Denver.
Like here, you asked me a question. Let me throw
one back at you, right, Laza Rique, Marvin Mims, Jaquan McMillan,
Brandon Jones, and shoot throw Ben Powers in there. All
(14:10):
upcoming free agents this year, Like where how high up
on that priority list is Marvin Mims.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
Yeah, that's a good point.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
I mean we saw Cage Casey get drafted out of
Boise State. You think that could be a replacement for
Ben Powers on the offensive line. We've got jad a
bear and he's gonna take He can take either of
those roll We talked about his versatility when he was drafted.
I think he can plug him either to safety or corner,
depending on what your need is coming up next year,
whether you're moving on from Brandon Jones or moving on
(14:40):
from Riley Moss. I think Marvin Mimmes is near the
top of that list, just behind Jaquan McMillan, because I
think Jaquan proved last year that he needs to be
a part of this defense as long as Vance Joseph
is running this defense. He's an important cog in the
wheel that makes this defense run the way it does,
and he just has a way a knack of finding
(15:02):
the ball in the most important moments. So I think
it'd go j Mack one, and then Marvin Mems right
underneath that at number two because of what he does
on special teams. We saw the Broncos go out and
sign some UFL players after their season rapped, and one
of them, sean fresh Junior, was like the best rated
return guy in the UFL, and people were talking about, Oh,
this is a clear sign that they're going to move
(15:24):
on from Marvin Mims. I think it's a way that
Marvin Mims is able to touch the ball more in
those return situations because we saw last year when he
was back there paired up with Bidet or whoever it was,
they were just kicking to the other guy every time
to keep the ball out of Marvin's hands. So I
think this actually helps Marvin get some more touches on
that kickoff return aspect of the game. And I think
(15:45):
he's the number two free agent on your team going
into next season.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
And it helps you know if you had you could argue, hey,
if he gets injured on offense, now we're losing this
all pro level returner. If you have that fee, you
know now Sean Fresh mitigates that. So it's exciting. I
can't wait to see how training camp plays out. It's
good problems to have for the Broncos. We have so
much depth that we don't know who we're going to keep.
What a change of pace from a couple of years ago,
(16:11):
and hopefully hoping to repeat the magic of last season
and get one step further to the Super Bowl this year.
We'll have to wait and see training camp coming up
in about a month.

Some big news in the NBA the last couple of days,
of course, we saw LaMelo Ball get traded to the
Minnesota Timberwolves, pairing him with Aunt after the Julius Randall trade.
What did you think about the addition of LaMelo Ball
to the Tea Wolves. Does that make them better after
losing Julius Randall or does it seem like maybe they're
(17:30):
hedging their bets and maybe if Ant moves on, they've
at least got another superstar to sell to their fan base.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
Ooh that's a great perspective. I actually hadn't even considered.
I've gone back and forth on this trade. When it
first went down, I was kind of like, I love
this As a Nuggets fan, I don't really view LaMelo
Ball as like.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
A winning player. Yeah, and.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
You know, I just I kind of you do view
nos Reed as a winning player. I think LaMelo Ball's
better than nas Reid, but he's kind of one of
those guys. I know Bill Simmons has talked about them before.
But you know, sometimes you see a player put up
thirty on a bad team, like Jordan Poole with the Wizards.
I don't think Amelo Ball is that bad, but it's
you know, it's I wonder if he's actually that conducive

to winning basketball well.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
And like on an up and coming Charlotte Hornet's team
that made the playoffs for the first time in a
number of years, especially with LaMelo Ball, I mean, they're
ready to move on from him as they're building up
this young, up and coming team. I mean that gives
me a little trepidation as well. Is that Okay? Why
were the Hornets willing to give up LaMelo Ball for

nos Reed, who is a great.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
I mean, we've seen him.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Tey a part the Nuggets a couple of times in
the playoffs, but you would think if LaMelo Ball is
who we think he could be and the Hornets believe that,
they would have asked for more or not moved on
from him exactly.

Because that's the other thing, the reason I ultimately land
on thinking this is a win for the Timberwolves, even
if I could see it blowing up in their face.
They gave up so little. They give up ostensibly one
first round pick. There's three first round pick swaps in there,
but they're very unlikely to convey unless you think Charlotte's
(19:11):
going to be a whole lot better than Minnesota in
the cum of years, which maybe if they trade ann
and aunt Demand's out, that could happen, but it seems
like that that isn't going to do anything for Charlotte,
so they're probably getting nasried in a first round pick.
For again, this what seemed like the central pillar of
their franchise. Like, yes, they've got a nipple coming up,
(19:32):
and they've got Brandon Miller, but LaMelo Ball was you know,
he's obviously not Yoka's level, but the Jokic of that offense.
He was the engine of the offense. And I mean,
the streets of Charlotte are now safer, But I don't
get what else they're getting out of it.

Maybe that's all they needed was just to get them
off the roadways in Charlotte, North Carolina.

We'll see Minneapolis residents look out, Jordan Addison and LaMelo Ball.

Another big story that broke the earlier this week out
of the NBA Jannis finally getting his wishes granted and
leaving the Bucks heading to the Miami Heat. Here's Sean
Sharania on Pat McAfee's show. I believe this was two
days ago talking about the trade and how it came
to fruition for a few.
Speaker 5 (20:14):
Different offers that came about.
Speaker 6 (20:16):
You had teams like obviously Boston and Miami with the finalist.
There are other teams Minnesota, Portland, Golden State, Cleveland had interest,
the Lakers at interest, a few other teams at interest.
But at the end of the day, Jannis had one
year left on his contract.
Speaker 5 (20:32):
That meant he had all the power, all.
Speaker 6 (20:34):
The leverage in the second Apron collective bargaining era to
be able to.
Speaker 5 (20:37):
Dictate where he wanted to go.
Speaker 6 (20:39):
And at the end of it, there were two teams
that he was willing to sign a long term contract
extension with. That's the Boston Celtics in the Miami Heat.
And so there were two totally different offers. With the
Celtics it was Jalen Brown and two first round picks.
With Miami it was what we saw Tyler hero Clill
where haw May Hakez as well as Paspers Yaka Shonas
(21:01):
three unprotected first round picks, one pick swap, and one
second round pick. That is a group of cost controlled,
rookie scale contracts, significant draft capital. And that's an admission
from the Bucks that we are now going to take
a step back.

We're going to evaluate this team.

We are not in this win now contention state because
you're not in win now contention to state with Giannis.
Jayalen Brown is one of the best players in the world,
but the Celtics were willing to offer multiple first round.

Picks with him to go get Yannis.

So they had made the calculation that we would rather
have Giannis than Jalen Brown.

The Bucks felt the same way.

So if you're going to try to compete and contend,
you want to do with the honest. Otherwise you take
a step back, collect the different cost control players.

And move forward and move on.

And then obviously Miami now pat Riley. He gets his
big fish, his white whale to pair with Bam out
of iron.

This is a history.

Pat Riley has a history of doing deal where he
goes out and he gets the best players in the world.
Lebron James went there, Chris Bosh went there, Alonzo Morning
went there, Shaq went there.

Jimmy now Jannis.

Now Jannis pat Riley adding another superstar to the team.
He is a general manager of Who do you think
won that trade? I mean, obviously, in the short term,
it looks like the Miami Heat, because you're getting one
of the best power forwards in NBA history. But the
Bucks got a haulback along with some decent young players.
I mean, Haimi Hakes and Tyler Hero are legit NBA players.

They're obviously not on the level of Jannis, but they're
quality players. And you saw them take a couple of
great picks in the draft the other night that I
think add to that nice young nucleus they're going to
start having up there in Milwaukee. So I think it's
a win win for both sides. Since Jannis clearly wanted
out of Milwaukee, I.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
Think it ultimately is a win for Milwaukee. I wonder
how long Giannis is going to be happy in Miami.
You know, it's a nice low coal certainly, and no
state income tax will help, but if that Mightami Heat
roster looks a lot like the Bucks roster he was
unhappy with. You know, you get one other star, you know,
(23:08):
maybe not super starbuck Star, you know, bam as opposed
to Miles Turner or Dame Lillard, where Chris Middleton, and
then beyond that, there's not a lot of great depth.

And so if he felt he had.

To get out of Milwaukee because he couldn't contend there,
I think Miami the clock's already ticking to do some
really clever stuff with this roster because Norm Powell's extensibly
going to be out, Andrew Wiggins is starting to get
up there. He's probably, you know, their third best option
and a critical one. Now they're going to be leaning
hard on Bobby Portis, who they also get in this deal.

I just I wonder how long that works out. Meanwhile,
I think you were dead on the Heat get or
the Bucks rather from the Heat, get a bunch of

draft pick. We saw his reaction on Draft Night. I
wouldn't be surprised to see Ty Simpson starts as the

This week, the NFL announced that they wouldn't be holding
a supplemental draft, preventing Brendan Soresby from entering the league
until the twenty twenty seven draft. What do you make
of this move by the league and do you think
this is fair to Soresby.

I think it is fair because I think he would
have got a year long ban probably if he would
have been drafted this year in the supplemental draft. I
think this is their way, the NFL, that is, of
saving face and just saying, hey, if he wasn't allowed
to play in college football or gambling on the game
that he plays, we're not going to let him play
in the NFL this year as well.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
He's going to hold out.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
He's still going to get drafted, probably not as high
next year after not playing and playing the game at
any level next season, unless he somehow makes it to
the UFL for a season.

But I think it's a smart move.

It's a good look for the NFL, and I think
he'll still be drafted in the top three rounds of
next year's draft. But I think it was smart on
their part to not have that supplemental draft.

I think this is maintaining a smart pattern for the
NFL where you're not allowing the players to skirt the rules.
Treill Pryor when he entered the supplemental Draft, the NFL
suspended him because they didn't want teams or players rather
just skirting the rules and entering the NFL. This is
a good way to keep that precedent. And man, he
broke the sacred rule. He certainly did.

I mean, and it wasn't just like once or twice
like we saw it with the Justo Rique on the
Broncos who got in trouble. But his track record was
nothing like Brendan Sorosby's with the number of bets he
placed over multiple years.

Yesterday, the d one Cabinet approved a new eligibility rule
that will now give college players a hard five years
to play five seasons. That clock will start when the

Do you like this new rule by the NCAAA, And
I got asked, does it even matter considering they couldn't

enforce their own gambling policies against Brendan Sorosby.

You know, that's a great part that you brought up
there at the end. Does it even matter if they
can enforce it, because it seems like the NCAA is
just losing its power left and right. But if they
can enforce it, I like this rule a lot. And
it's not because of I was worried about the older
players sticking around longer. I mean this all started in
COVID when they got that free year and you saw

six seven year players that were still at the college level,
older than some of their peers at the pro level.

But I like this for high school athletes, Like I.

Feel like this reinstills, reinvigorates high school recruiting in college football,
in college basketball, and even college baseball because a lot
of those guys were getting left out because players were
hanging around so long in their respective sports at the
college level. So I think this is good news for
high school athletes that were maybe getting overlooked these last
couple of years because of those older players in each sport.

I think it's really good for them, and I think
it's good for also just guys development. Now with NIL
there's more reason for guys to stay in school, you know,
get their degrees further develop as athletes, and now doesn't
matter if you have an injury waiver or not, or
you got a red shirt or not. You get five
seasons to play. I think that's a positive.

Yesterd or Sorry, Lions starting cornerback and PS two's podcast
co host Terry On Arnold was arrested last night in
connection to an alleged armed robbery and kidnapping. Life in

football side of things, Assuming he misses a significant amount

of time this season, can the Lions still challenge for
an NFC North title and can they return to contender
status without Arnold?

Yeah? I don't know, man. I mean, he's a great player,
and what is he doing?

Like I'll obviously wait to see how all of this
plays out in the court of law, but it looks
bad just being attached to something like this, Like you're
a multi millionaire live in your dream playing the NFL.
And from the clips I've seen of him with PS
two on the podcast, he seemed like a pretty stand
up guy. But obviously you don't know what goes on

behind closed doors. And when the cameras aren't on, this
looks really bad. I think the Lions they're going to
have to add some depth somewhere if this story is
as serious as it sounds. But who else is out
there to replace someone of that skill level. You really
can't find another player like that just coming off the street.
So this is a big year for the Lions. They
disappointed last year with high expectations. They got to do something.

I think maybe one positive for the Lions in this

With him remaining a free agent, DeAndre Hopkins told the
media this week that he doesn't want to force his
signing and that he wishes to ideally wait for a

Yeah, where there was there a list of teams that
may have interest in him. Did you see any of that?
Because I'm trying to think of what contenders may want
to bring him in. I mean, obviously he's been one
of the best receivers of his generation, but it seems
like the last couple of years he's kind of been
a forgotten commodity on the teams he's been on. I
think he's still a very capable player. He's obviously lost

a step or two, but I think he could still
make an impact. So maybe he's just waiting for maybe
a training camp injury on one of these these contending
teams and they need a veteran wide receiver in their
room and that's when he'll sign.

taking this Eagles defense to the next level this year,

this year is at the Seahawks, the Eagles, the Texans,
the Broncos, someone else.

No, it's the Broncos. H's the Broncos. They're going to
be the best defense in the league this year. I
think all those other teams you mentioned will still have
great defenses, but I think another year in Vance, Joseph System,
a couple of more young guys making impacts, I think
the Broncos defense is going to be legit and I
think they will be the top defense in the NFL
this year. How do you think they can take things

to that next level. I think it's just continuing what
they're doing. Honestly, Like I just think Vance is gonna
get a little more creative, I think in some of
his schemes this year, because he's had such a core
nucleus of the same guys returning, and I think you
just keep plugging and playing because there's so much depth.

the sky's the limit for them, especially on the defensive

Yeah, they're a very talented team and I think there's
a good chance they get some luck regression there. They
had really bad turnover luck last year. That's like rocket
fuel for a defense. I think they get better luck
there and maybe that is enough to catapult them into

most likely be playing. That could change with the last
couple of group stage games coming up in the next

couple of days. But ma'am, what an exciting time for
the US soccer team to kind of take over the.

And usually, you know, this is a downtime of sports
for US, and between the Nuggets and the ABS playoff
runs and Broncos training camp about to start up. But man,
we got something to cheer for this time, we really do.

One of the old sports memories that really sticks with
me is going to some of the public watch parties
for the I would have been the twenty fourteen World Cup.
It must have been in Boulder, like on Pearl Street,
and it was just such a such a fun time,
and that US team wasn't as good as this one.
It was just like, well, I hope they can make
it out of the group of death or whatever. And

they held on and they made it. And I remember,
you know, seeing the parties in Chicago, and it was
a unifying experience I felt for like a lot of
this country and I thought that was really cool. And
this time around, it's like this unifying experience for the world,
at least from the American perspective, and it's been really
cool to experience. And this team is so great. Like
that's the other cool thing. The path is lining up

for him pretty well. Like you said, Bosnia and here's
a Govina is not the and they're not the most
threatening team and their second round opponent, I believe is
shaping up to be not too terrifying as well.

Yeah, and one of my favorite memories I think I
talked about this with Nick ferguson the other night. But
I was in Europe for the twenty fourteen World Cup,
which of course was in Brazil, but I got to
go to all these different watch parties and each country
while their team was playing, So we were in Netherlands
and Belgium.

And France and Germany. Wow.

And one of my favorite memories from that trip, other
than that solidifying me as a soccer fan because of
how passionate and ravenous all most of the fan base is,
is being in a bar in Paris with a bunch
of other Americans and watching the US team win a
game to make it out of that group stage, and
it was like, Wow, this, I get why people are

obsessed with soccer now, and it's fun for the whole
world to get that feeling and to get to see,
like you said, get to see that different side of
the US than what they just hear through the news, because,
as we know, news is usually negative stories. And when
they get to see some of the better sides of
our country that they don't always come to light in
their newscasts or however they at their news these days,

it's really cool to see them experience things that we
kind of take for granted in our own country.

Yeah, and there's so many different amazing stories to see.
It seems like even more of a celebration than something
like the Olympics is, you know, every four years. It's
been so cool, and you know, there's a lot of
teams trying to win it all. There's teams just trying
to make it out of the group stage, and then
there's teams like you know, Cape Verde or Kira Style
(03:26):
where it's like, well, they scored their first World Cup
goal ever, where they got a point with a draw
for the first time ever. Watching Ghana hold on for
Dear life against England to pull a tie. I have
a friend who's from Ghana who lives here in Denver now,
and we were all kind.

Of in the groups.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
I worried for them, thinking that's probably going to be
a slaughter, and just watching them hold on for dear
life it was a blast.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
So I'm just loving it. Yeah, man.

And last night I was watching the Mexico game and
a stadio techa with like eighty five thousand people, and
they won, of course, but there was an awesome moment
towards the end of the game. There's this goalkeeper for
Mexico that has been around forever Ochoa and he's in
a six World Cup and he's been replaced. The passing
of the torches happened where a younger, better goal goalkeeper
(04:17):
is in net for them now. But they brought him
in in like the eightieth minute or something, and the
crowd just went insane, like it.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
Was such I got.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
I can getting goosebumps just talking about it right now.
Because even if we're not the biggest soccer fans, especially
here in Broncos country, you know, it's football, then hockey,
then basketball probably and then baseball with the Rockies. But
man like, just as a sports fan, those are the
moments you love to see. Is just these fan bases
absolutely losing their mind for a legend and the sport

and their country. And then he has a deep, long
pass down in the field and it's like one other
pass to another Mexican player and they score a goal
and he's pumping his fist to the crowd and I
was like, this is the beauty of sports right here.
And that's what I think, even if you're not the
biggest soccer fan, you can appreciate this moment that we're
living in and the greatness of.

It, it's it's fantastic.

And the great thing about the US doing so well
is we get to enjoy a lot more of it hopefully.
You know, I mentioned the path earlier. They get almost
certainly Bosnia in this next round, and then after that
they're likely playing Egypt or South Korea, you know teams
they can be respectable teams but very beautible. After that
it might be Spain. But man, if you got to

the quarter finals, if you get to.

The finals on home soil, like that's going to create
a whole new generation of soccer fans because you're not
just hoping to make it out of the group stage anymore.
Like you said earlier in this segment, like this is
the best team we've probably ever had in the US,
and it's our golden generation.

I remember the last time they kind of had a
bit of a meaningful team or a bit of a
meaningful push with like Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovo.

It was the last gasps of those guys where they
were still the best, but you were definitely on the
back nine there. This is a team that feels like
it's ascending. Yes, Polistic is maybe in his primer on
the back half of it. This is probably his last
great World Cup or at the height of his powers,
but you've got so many other great talents coming up.

I think it's really exciting. Yeah, and man, I just

soccer is getting a taste of it. And of course

to be reaching his peak or his prime as a player,
the Broncos, Marvin Mims, and he had an interesting quote

that is making the rounds here in Denver about how
he's in a contract year and he wants to be
with the Broncos, but they can't keep everyone.

I think it'd be a huge like peace of mind
for me, just like situation wise. But all right, also,
you know, with me being Shawn's first draft class and
my contract here, you know it's gonna be me. Riley,
Drew Sanders, Jale Skinner, you know, Alex forside that whole
draft class and undrafted guys, you know, Julil, Nate Atkins.
So it's, uh, yeah, I'm kind of getting to the
point where it's like you can't keep everybody, you know,

and I feel like especially as a draft class, you know,
and the classes after us have performed really well, and
that's how you know you have really good scouts and
a really good front office. So we'll see what happens
if they want to retain who they want to keep.
But at the end of the day, I mean us
as players, fans, you guys know, they can't really keep everybody,
So we'll see what happens. And but I mean, if
this is my last year, I'll look forward to it
with these guys because I've had a great time here

one of my favorite Broncos. I've loved his attitude throughout
his couple of years here, especially when I think, and
I'm sure he thinks as well, that he should be

Is this the last go round for Marvin mems as

the Denver Bronco. I, man, that's one of the greatest
mysteries of the season.

I kind of fear so, in part because of what
you said. He understandably should have some confidence in himself that. Man,
if I get more opportunities, I could do a whole
lot more with this.

I mean, he tore up my Cincinnati Bengals a couple
of years ago. Towards the end of the season, I
was like, Okay, he's definitely gonna be a staple of
the offense next year. And then it seemed like he
couldn't get on the field until injuries made him get
on the field last year, and then he made some
marks then as well.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
I talked about it last night.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
I think on a per target basis, he was the
best receiver the Broncos had last year. I think there's
maybe some other areas where you wish you were getting
more out of him, and maybe that's why he's not
getting as many targets as a Sutton or you know
whoever else, But on a per target basis, when the

ball did get thrown his way, I think you had
a positive outcome at a higher rate more than anyone else,
and a lot of tough catches, a lot of like
q huch plays.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
That's the thing with him.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
He creates explosives NonStop and such a dynamic player with
the ball in his hands, and then he's one of
the most dynamic special teamers in the league. This was
the first year he didn't make All Pro, but it
wasn't like he took a big step as a returner.
He was still outstanding. Just some other guys had slightly
better years. It's going to be tough to keep him
(09:22):
because I think he's going to look at himself and go,
I should get paid like a legit starting receiver, you know,
ten to fifteen, maybe even plus million dollars a year,
and the Broncos right now only have twelve million to
work with. They got to resign Jaquon, they got to
resign Riley Matt all the guys he just rattled off.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
It's going to be tough, yeah, And I just don't
understand why he's not more involved. And then you see,
I mean, obviously we're all excited about the addition of
Jalen Wattle, but that kind of takes away what limited
role he had on that offense, because you got to
think Jalen Wattle is going to be out there on
the field as long as he's healthy ninety nine percent
of the time for the Broncos on offense. Let me
(10:05):
pose this question to you, if you had to choose
right now, would you rather keep Troy Franklin or Marvin Mims.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
Marvin Mims me, I think by far, and it's unfortunate
those contract situations maybe aren't reversed where you have the
longer runway with Mims than Franklin. I just think he
offers so much more utility. Now again, I don't know
if you'll ever take that leap as a receiver, because
it feels like we keep waiting for it to happen
and it just hasn't clicked yet. Now again, maybe that
(10:32):
is just situation, and once he gets elsewhere, you'll have
that like Shack Beart ascension. But he's at the very
least very useful even if he never takes another major
leap or another big stride in development. He's an extremely
explosive weapon, which is at a premium right now. He's
a guy where you can just give him the ball
and go. You can just drop designer place wherehim, give
(10:54):
him the ball in the short area and let him
pick up ten yards for you an easy first down.
He's amazing with the bon in his hands, and then
he's going to give you a lot of valuable special
teams contribution in a time where with the new return rules,
it's becoming more prevalent than ever. So I think someone
will get a great player, whether it's the Broncos or
someone else. But it's just it's this messy situation because
(11:17):
it seems like the Broncos, for whatever reason, don't trust
him as a legit wide receiver, and Mims is probably
going to want to get paid like a legit wide receiver,
and I don't know how you square that.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
And I think someone else will pay him, And who knows,
maybe this year and Davis Webb's offense. You know, we've
heard that it'll still mostly be Sean Payton's offense with
Davis Webb calling the plays, but maybe he'll draw up
a couple more plays for Marvin Mims and give him
another chance to prove himself as a legit wide receiver.
Here was Marvin Mems on thoughts of him already believing

he's proven himself.

You know, I think I've proved it, you know, time
and time again, you know, just in different stretches, you know,
different opportunities.

I love MAGA players. I love being out there doing
the things that I can do. And really it's just

am a little irritated with my situation. By the end
of the day, I'm blessed to me why I am today,
you were saying, right here where I am. And I
love him for I loved the city, I love the

So you know, with this possibly be in my last year,
I'm just Georgia the full less going to it, you know,
care free and just play my hardest because we have
a real chance to do something extremely specialized.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
And I think that's an important point he added in
there at the end, was that they do have a
real chance to do something special. They are a Super
Bowl contender. So even if he is a little bit
unhappy with his role, I mean, that's what you play
the game for. That's what you grow up as a
kid dreaming of, is your chance to make an impact
in a Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
And I think he realizes that.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
Like you can tell, he's clearly frustrated with the situation,
but he's still saying all the right things, which may
lead to maybe some possible way of them being able
to keep him around after this season.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
Yeah, and one's hopeful, right, because you really loves Denver.
He's saying the right things. I definitely think that speaks
to a maturity. It just seems like, again, you haven't
been able to square the thing on the field with
getting him more opportunities for whatever reason. Right, every week
we're hearing Sean Payton say, oh, we got to get
him more reps and then it doesn't happen.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
Yeah, And it's like Ben says all the time, like,
aren't you Sean Payton the guy that's in charge of
getting him more reps?
Speaker 3 (13:25):
And so here's the thing. I don't think Sean Payton's
that forgetful. No, I think he's smart enough to not
throw Marvin Mims under the bus to the media, and
there's some reason. We don't know what it is from
our outside perspective, but there's probably some reason inside that
building he's not getting those opportunities. Marvin Mims very understandably
thinks he is deserving of those opportunities.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
Wants him.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
I think unless you square that, and hey, we got
seventeen plus games, you very well could this year. Unless
you square that, I don't know how he stays in Denver.
Like here, you asked me a question. Let me throw
one back at you, right, Laza Rique, Marvin Mims, Jaquan McMillan,
Brandon Jones, and shoot throw Ben Powers in there. All
(14:10):
upcoming free agents this year, Like where how high up
on that priority list is Marvin Mims.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
Yeah, that's a good point.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
I mean we saw Cage Casey get drafted out of
Boise State. You think that could be a replacement for
Ben Powers on the offensive line. We've got jad a
bear and he's gonna take He can take either of
those roll We talked about his versatility when he was drafted.
I think he can plug him either to safety or corner,
depending on what your need is coming up next year,
whether you're moving on from Brandon Jones or moving on
(14:40):
from Riley Moss. I think Marvin Mimmes is near the
top of that list, just behind Jaquan McMillan, because I
think Jaquan proved last year that he needs to be
a part of this defense as long as Vance Joseph
is running this defense. He's an important cog in the
wheel that makes this defense run the way it does,
and he just has a way a knack of finding
(15:02):
the ball in the most important moments. So I think
it'd go j Mack one, and then Marvin Mems right
underneath that at number two because of what he does
on special teams. We saw the Broncos go out and
sign some UFL players after their season rapped, and one
of them, sean fresh Junior, was like the best rated
return guy in the UFL, and people were talking about, Oh,
this is a clear sign that they're going to move
(15:24):
on from Marvin Mims. I think it's a way that
Marvin Mims is able to touch the ball more in
those return situations because we saw last year when he
was back there paired up with Bidet or whoever it was,
they were just kicking to the other guy every time
to keep the ball out of Marvin's hands. So I
think this actually helps Marvin get some more touches on
that kickoff return aspect of the game. And I think
(15:45):
he's the number two free agent on your team going
into next season.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
And it helps you know if you had you could argue, hey,
if he gets injured on offense, now we're losing this
all pro level returner. If you have that fee, you
know now Sean Fresh mitigates that. So it's exciting. I
can't wait to see how training camp plays out. It's
good problems to have for the Broncos. We have so
much depth that we don't know who we're going to keep.
What a change of pace from a couple of years ago,
(16:11):
and hopefully hoping to repeat the magic of last season
and get one step further to the Super Bowl this year.
We'll have to wait and see training camp coming up
in about a month.

Some big news in the NBA the last couple of days,
of course, we saw LaMelo Ball get traded to the
Minnesota Timberwolves, pairing him with Aunt after the Julius Randall trade.
What did you think about the addition of LaMelo Ball
to the Tea Wolves. Does that make them better after
losing Julius Randall or does it seem like maybe they're
(17:30):
hedging their bets and maybe if Ant moves on, they've
at least got another superstar to sell to their fan base.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
Ooh that's a great perspective. I actually hadn't even considered.
I've gone back and forth on this trade. When it
first went down, I was kind of like, I love
this As a Nuggets fan, I don't really view LaMelo
Ball as like.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
A winning player. Yeah, and.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
You know, I just I kind of you do view
nos Reed as a winning player. I think LaMelo Ball's
better than nas Reid, but he's kind of one of
those guys. I know Bill Simmons has talked about them before.
But you know, sometimes you see a player put up
thirty on a bad team, like Jordan Poole with the Wizards.
I don't think Amelo Ball is that bad, but it's
you know, it's I wonder if he's actually that conducive
(18:15):
to winning basketball well.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
And like on an up and coming Charlotte Hornet's team
that made the playoffs for the first time in a
number of years, especially with LaMelo Ball, I mean, they're
ready to move on from him as they're building up
this young, up and coming team. I mean that gives
me a little trepidation as well. Is that Okay? Why
were the Hornets willing to give up LaMelo Ball for
(18:37):
nos Reed, who is a great.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
I mean, we've seen him.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Tey a part the Nuggets a couple of times in
the playoffs, but you would think if LaMelo Ball is
who we think he could be and the Hornets believe that,
they would have asked for more or not moved on
from him exactly.
Speaker 3 (18:49):
Because that's the other thing, the reason I ultimately land
on thinking this is a win for the Timberwolves, even
if I could see it blowing up in their face.
They gave up so little. They give up ostensibly one
first round pick. There's three first round pick swaps in there,
but they're very unlikely to convey unless you think Charlotte's
(19:11):
going to be a whole lot better than Minnesota in
the cum of years, which maybe if they trade ann
and aunt Demand's out, that could happen, but it seems
like that that isn't going to do anything for Charlotte,
so they're probably getting nasried in a first round pick.
For again, this what seemed like the central pillar of
their franchise. Like, yes, they've got a nipple coming up,
(19:32):
and they've got Brandon Miller, but LaMelo Ball was you know,
he's obviously not Yoka's level, but the Jokic of that offense.
He was the engine of the offense. And I mean,
the streets of Charlotte are now safer, But I don't
get what else they're getting out of it.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
Maybe that's all they needed was just to get them
off the roadways in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Speaker 3 (19:51):
We'll see Minneapolis residents look out, Jordan Addison and LaMelo Ball.

Another big story that broke the earlier this week out
of the NBA Jannis finally getting his wishes granted and
leaving the Bucks heading to the Miami Heat. Here's Sean
Sharania on Pat McAfee's show. I believe this was two
days ago talking about the trade and how it came
to fruition for a few.
Speaker 5 (20:14):
Different offers that came about.
Speaker 6 (20:16):
You had teams like obviously Boston and Miami with the finalist.
There are other teams Minnesota, Portland, Golden State, Cleveland had interest,
the Lakers at interest, a few other teams at interest.
But at the end of the day, Jannis had one
year left on his contract.
Speaker 5 (20:32):
That meant he had all the power, all.
Speaker 6 (20:34):
The leverage in the second Apron collective bargaining era to
be able to.
Speaker 5 (20:37):
Dictate where he wanted to go.
Speaker 6 (20:39):
And at the end of it, there were two teams
that he was willing to sign a long term contract
extension with. That's the Boston Celtics in the Miami Heat.
And so there were two totally different offers. With the
Celtics it was Jalen Brown and two first round picks.
With Miami it was what we saw Tyler hero Clill
where haw May Hakez as well as Paspers Yaka Shonas
(21:01):
three unprotected first round picks, one pick swap, and one
second round pick. That is a group of cost controlled,
rookie scale contracts, significant draft capital. And that's an admission
from the Bucks that we are now going to take
a step back.
Speaker 5 (21:15):
We're going to evaluate this team.
Speaker 6 (21:16):
We are not in this win now contention state because
you're not in win now contention to state with Giannis.
Jayalen Brown is one of the best players in the world,
but the Celtics were willing to offer multiple first round.
Speaker 5 (21:28):
Picks with him to go get Yannis.
Speaker 6 (21:30):
So they had made the calculation that we would rather
have Giannis than Jalen Brown.
Speaker 5 (21:35):
The Bucks felt the same way.
Speaker 6 (21:37):
So if you're going to try to compete and contend,
you want to do with the honest. Otherwise you take
a step back, collect the different cost control players.
Speaker 5 (21:46):
And move forward and move on.
Speaker 6 (21:48):
And then obviously Miami now pat Riley. He gets his
big fish, his white whale to pair with Bam out
of iron.
Speaker 5 (21:55):
This is a history.
Speaker 6 (21:56):
Pat Riley has a history of doing deal where he
goes out and he gets the best players in the world.
Lebron James went there, Chris Bosh went there, Alonzo Morning
went there, Shaq went there.
Speaker 5 (22:06):
Jimmy now Jannis.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
Now Jannis pat Riley adding another superstar to the team.
He is a general manager of Who do you think
won that trade? I mean, obviously, in the short term,
it looks like the Miami Heat, because you're getting one
of the best power forwards in NBA history. But the
Bucks got a haulback along with some decent young players.
I mean, Haimi Hakes and Tyler Hero are legit NBA players.
(22:29):
They're obviously not on the level of Jannis, but they're
quality players. And you saw them take a couple of
great picks in the draft the other night that I
think add to that nice young nucleus they're going to
start having up there in Milwaukee. So I think it's
a win win for both sides. Since Jannis clearly wanted
out of Milwaukee, I.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
Think it ultimately is a win for Milwaukee. I wonder
how long Giannis is going to be happy in Miami.
You know, it's a nice low coal certainly, and no
state income tax will help, but if that Mightami Heat
roster looks a lot like the Bucks roster he was
unhappy with. You know, you get one other star, you know,
(23:08):
maybe not super starbuck Star, you know, bam as opposed
to Miles Turner or Dame Lillard, where Chris Middleton, and
then beyond that, there's not a lot of great depth.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
And so if he felt he had.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
To get out of Milwaukee because he couldn't contend there,
I think Miami the clock's already ticking to do some
really clever stuff with this roster because Norm Powell's extensibly
going to be out, Andrew Wiggins is starting to get
up there. He's probably, you know, their third best option
and a critical one. Now they're going to be leaning
hard on Bobby Portis, who they also get in this deal.
(23:41):
I just I wonder how long that works out. Meanwhile,
I think you were dead on the Heat get or
the Bucks rather from the Heat, get a bunch of
talented young contributors and a pretty good draft haul.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
Yeah, and man, I was somehow in a dream world
hoping that we were going to trade like Jamal Murray
and maybe Christian Brown dream and some and some picks
to the Bucks and get Yannis beside Joker, because what
a duo that would be. I mean, we see the
alley oops from Joker to Ag if we had Ag
and Jannis, which would probably never happen with them together.
(24:15):
But obviously it was a it was a pipe dream,
but I was living in it for a moment. One
more basketball thing here the Nuggets trading out of the
twenty six pick and the NBA Draft, and then the
Spurs selecting who I thought would be a great fit
for the Nuggets and terrorist free junior from Yukon. Like,
what are the Nuggets doing here? I mean, are we
(24:37):
going to see any big moves? Is it going to
be a complete run it back? And they're going to
find a way to keep Peyton Watson? What's happening here
with our Denver Nuggets.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
The lack of commitment from the kronkis just feels very
frustrating to me. We look at how the Kronkys manage
the Rams. You look at how the Walton Penner group
manages the Broncos in the same city, and how they're
all in on weed and competing at theigh level, and
it does not feel like the Nuggets are doing that.
Alex Rodriguez is far from one of the richest owners
(25:06):
in basketball, nowhere near the Kronkys. The Wolves are going
into the luxury tax for the third straight year because
they got aunt and they want to try and win,
and they make this aggressive move with LaMelo ball Grant.
If you were the Hornets GM, would you rather have
nas reed in one first pick or Jamal Murray and
a first round pick? Jamal Murray and hell, I'll throw
in Christian Brown. I'll throw in a lot to make

that happen.

I just it does not. It feels like they're asleep
at the wheel. And I hope I'm wrong.

But and then there's that video that goes viral of
Josh Kronky telling everyone to stop clapping. It just the
vibes coming out of that building feel bizarre.

How times can change so quickly in the NBA and
all professional sports. I mean, we were just celebrating a
championship a couple of years ago, and now it's like
everything's up in the air once again.

According to the Athletics Nate Atkins, not to be confused
with the Broncos tight end Ty Simpson, has failed to
separate from Stetson Bennett in the Rams quarterback two competition.
Atkins is also reporting there's now significant concern inside the
Rams facility about their backup quarterback situation. What do you
make of this report? And will this Ty Simpson pick
(26:29):
live an infamy if the Rams fail to win the
Super Bowl during this all in season.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
Yeah, I think it will.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
I mean I think it's a smart move long term
to try and get your guy of the future. We
know Matt Stafford is aging out. This will probably be
his last year, but who knows, if he has another
MVP caliber year, maybe he'll come back and run it
back one more time. If they do follow the step
or two short of winning that Super Bowl. But I
you hear Sean mcvayh talk about Stetson Bennett still all
(26:57):
the time, So I wonder how happy is with this
draft pick. We saw his reaction on Draft Night. I
wouldn't be surprised to see Ty Simpson starts as the
number three guy there for the start of the year,
and it just seems like such a wasted draft pick
in the present moment. It could be great in the
long run, but in the present moment, when you're all
in on this season, going out and getting Miles Garrett
(27:19):
and you've got your MVP quarterback back in the saddle,
I think it was a waste of a pick in
the first round for someone that could impact your team
positively now, but it could be a win in the
long run.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
Reminds me of the Warriors trying to do the two
timeline thing and it just didn't work out. I think
you got to commit to one timeline and hope for
the best.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
Would it helped if I would have played some music
there at the beginning under the six pack. We're doing

This week, the NFL announced that they wouldn't be holding
a supplemental draft, preventing Brendan Soresby from entering the league
until the twenty twenty seven draft. What do you make
of this move by the league and do you think
this is fair to Soresby.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
I think it is fair because I think he would
have got a year long ban probably if he would
have been drafted this year in the supplemental draft. I
think this is their way, the NFL, that is, of
saving face and just saying, hey, if he wasn't allowed
to play in college football or gambling on the game
that he plays, we're not going to let him play
in the NFL this year as well.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
He's going to hold out.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
He's still going to get drafted, probably not as high
next year after not playing and playing the game at
any level next season, unless he somehow makes it to
the UFL for a season.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
But I think it's a smart move.
Speaker 2 (28:33):
It's a good look for the NFL, and I think
he'll still be drafted in the top three rounds of
next year's draft. But I think it was smart on
their part to not have that supplemental draft.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
I fully agree.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
I think this is maintaining a smart pattern for the
NFL where you're not allowing the players to skirt the rules.
Treill Pryor when he entered the supplemental Draft, the NFL
suspended him because they didn't want teams or players rather
just skirting the rules and entering the NFL. This is
a good way to keep that precedent. And man, he
broke the sacred rule. He certainly did.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
I mean, and it wasn't just like once or twice
like we saw it with the Justo Rique on the
Broncos who got in trouble. But his track record was
nothing like Brendan Sorosby's with the number of bets he
placed over multiple years.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (29:19):
Agree, dramatic difference.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
Yesterday, the d one Cabinet approved a new eligibility rule
that will now give college players a hard five years
to play five seasons. That clock will start when the
player either starts school or turns nineteen, whichever comes first.
Do you like this new rule by the NCAAA, And
I got asked, does it even matter considering they couldn't
(29:43):
enforce their own gambling policies against Brendan Sorosby.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
You know, that's a great part that you brought up
there at the end. Does it even matter if they
can enforce it, because it seems like the NCAA is
just losing its power left and right. But if they
can enforce it, I like this rule a lot. And
it's not because of I was worried about the older
players sticking around longer. I mean this all started in
COVID when they got that free year and you saw
(30:06):
six seven year players that were still at the college level,
older than some of their peers at the pro level.
Speaker 1 (30:13):
But I like this for high school athletes, Like I.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
Feel like this reinstills, reinvigorates high school recruiting in college football,
in college basketball, and even college baseball because a lot
of those guys were getting left out because players were
hanging around so long in their respective sports at the
college level. So I think this is good news for
high school athletes that were maybe getting overlooked these last
couple of years because of those older players in each sport.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
That's a great point.
Speaker 3 (30:40):
I think it's really good for them, and I think
it's good for also just guys development. Now with NIL
there's more reason for guys to stay in school, you know,
get their degrees further develop as athletes, and now doesn't
matter if you have an injury waiver or not, or
you got a red shirt or not. You get five
seasons to play. I think that's a positive.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
Ultimately, four.
Speaker 3 (31:01):
Yesterd or Sorry, Lions starting cornerback and PS two's podcast
co host Terry On Arnold was arrested last night in
connection to an alleged armed robbery and kidnapping. Life in
prison is on the table as far as sentencing goes,
So it's a very serious situation, said focusing on the
football side of things, Assuming he misses a significant amount
(31:21):
of time this season, can the Lions still challenge for
an NFC North title and can they return to contender
status without Arnold?
Speaker 1 (31:30):
Yeah? I don't know, man. I mean, he's a great player,
and what is he doing?
Speaker 2 (31:34):
Like I'll obviously wait to see how all of this
plays out in the court of law, but it looks
bad just being attached to something like this, Like you're
a multi millionaire live in your dream playing the NFL.
And from the clips I've seen of him with PS
two on the podcast, he seemed like a pretty stand
up guy. But obviously you don't know what goes on
(31:54):
behind closed doors. And when the cameras aren't on, this
looks really bad. I think the Lions they're going to
have to add some depth somewhere if this story is
as serious as it sounds. But who else is out
there to replace someone of that skill level. You really
can't find another player like that just coming off the street.
So this is a big year for the Lions. They
disappointed last year with high expectations. They got to do something.
Speaker 1 (32:17):

They got to at least make the playoffs, and they're
hoping to come back and win the NFC North again.
So I think it's weird times to be a Lions
fans after so many years of failure and then you
get that taste of success and now it could be
gone just as quick as it came.

So we'll have to see how it all plays out.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
Especially at cornerback. It's going to be really hard to replace.
I think maybe one positive for the Lions in this
is they're used to a lot of injuries in the
secondary and patching stuff together on the fly, so hopefully
that helps.

With him remaining a free agent, DeAndre Hopkins told the
media this week that he doesn't want to force his
signing and that he wishes to ideally wait for a
contender to sign him. Are you surprised he hasn't been
signed yet? And have we seen the last Hopkins in
the NFL?
Speaker 2 (33:01):
Yeah, where there was there a list of teams that
may have interest in him. Did you see any of that?
Because I'm trying to think of what contenders may want
to bring him in. I mean, obviously he's been one
of the best receivers of his generation, but it seems
like the last couple of years he's kind of been
a forgotten commodity on the teams he's been on. I
think he's still a very capable player. He's obviously lost
(33:22):
a step or two, but I think he could still
make an impact. So maybe he's just waiting for maybe
a training camp injury on one of these these contending
teams and they need a veteran wide receiver in their
room and that's when he'll sign.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
Contend he might be debatable this season, but the Chiefs,
you know, they got the Rashi Rice situation.
Speaker 1 (33:39):
Maybe maybe something there.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
It's it's I think he might have to wait till
injury or you know, someone to become desperate.
Speaker 1 (33:45):
But I do feel like he'll get a shot.
Speaker 3 (33:47):
I feel, you know, some contender will have a bad
break and he'll get a shot. But it does seem
like he's on the last legs, six.

Zach Bond said, former Broncos head coach Vic Fangio is
taking this Eagles defense to the next level this year,
which is pretty impressive considering how good the Eagles defense
has already been under Fangio. With that in mind, Grant,
who's going to have the best defense in the NFL
this year is at the Seahawks, the Eagles, the Texans,
the Broncos, someone else.
Speaker 2 (34:17):
No, it's the Broncos. H's the Broncos. They're going to
be the best defense in the league this year. I
think all those other teams you mentioned will still have
great defenses, but I think another year in Vance, Joseph System,
a couple of more young guys making impacts, I think
the Broncos defense is going to be legit and I
think they will be the top defense in the NFL
this year. How do you think they can take things
(34:38):
to that next level. I think it's just continuing what
they're doing. Honestly, Like I just think Vance is gonna
get a little more creative, I think in some of
his schemes this year, because he's had such a core
nucleus of the same guys returning, and I think you
just keep plugging and playing because there's so much depth.
As we mentioned in the last segment on this Broncos team,
the sky's the limit for them, especially on the defensive
(35:00):
the ball.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
Yeah, they're a very talented team and I think there's
a good chance they get some luck regression there. They
had really bad turnover luck last year. That's like rocket
fuel for a defense. I think they get better luck
there and maybe that is enough to catapult them into
that top spot.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
I think so, man, I hope, so we got to
get more turnovers than we did last year. That's your
