Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, good do it. Broncos Country Tonight's short show post Rockies. Addition,
Benjamin all Bright, Nick Ferguson here with you again. We
got a full show on Thursday, right before Fourth of
July weekend. You got any big Fourth of July plans?

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Yeah, big plan to sit on the sofa and do
absolutely nothing. I still haven't watched Spider Noir. I haven't
watched that yet, but I did watch wonder Man.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Okay, wait, wonder Man, Yeah, wonder Man, Yes, okay, yeah,
yeah that was pretty good.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yeah, that was pretty good. But yeah, man, it is
the fourth I'm not doing anything.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
His was crazy? Is that? If I'm not mistaken.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
As it pertains to the Fourth of July, there is
a rule here in Denver about not shooting anything that goes.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
In the air.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
Yeah. They nobody pays attention to that.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Yes, absolutely right, No one pays attention to that at all.
So I'm just going to sit out, pull out a
shair in my driveway and just enjoy the festivities.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Well there's there's that. I Yeah, I'm gonna pretty much
do the same thing and remind or to, uh, if
you have neighbors that are veterans and you're gonna see
setting off fireworks, maybe let them know, just let them know. Yeah,
it's interesting to say that because especially if you're not
gonna do it on the fourth let me know, you know.
Also to dogs. I have a brand new puppy and
I'm yeah, so they.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Get a little skittish when they hit the bang in
a poppet.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
We'll be we'll be indoors with the music turn out.
I gotta I gotta like I finally get moved in
my new place. I got a ton of furniture getting
delivered and everything, so I think I'm just gonna be
doing that this weekend, put a putting all my furniture
up and all that. Yeah, uh so they'll be doing that,
you know, and hopefully that'll that'll tie things over it.
Let's grill and get the new grill in there and everything.
So I'll be doing a little bit of that for myself.
But uh uh, I know they've they get the warnings

(01:40):
out there because the wind and all the fires, yeah,
fires and stuff. So you know, if you're gonna do
that stuff, I mean, don't do it. But if you're
gonna do it, be careful at least and then have
some water on stand by and all that.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Well, usually what we do because usually what goes up
must come down. Uh we usually wed our garden. Yeah,
just just so little so it's not drive something was
to uh jump or fall on the lawn. It won't
really spark any flames, but definitely man, you know, celebrate well,
uh fiftieth of our great country whether you think it

(02:11):
is or not, but still celebrate celebrate h well, responsibly, yes, responsibly,
and also uh be careful which type of pyrotechnics that
you utilize.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
You don't want anyone to come back on Monday morning
minus a finger.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Yeah, you know, we were thinking, let to talk with
this yesterday with a buddy of mine from back in
the day and the dumb stuff that we used to
because we had you know, we had bottle rocket wars
like everybody, and uh we did dumb stuff I had.
We used to have the Roman candles and I would
keep the bottle rockets in my back pocket. Right.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
Well, somebody shot me and got me square left cheek
and with the Roman candle little on fire, shot the
bottle rockets up the back of my shirt and my
shirt looked like somebody had shot me with a machine
gun as they all went popping up the back of
my shirt.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Why the hell will you have that in your back pocket?

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Was we were having a bottle rocket war, we were
without glasses, we were.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
Looking at bottom more but your ema was in your
back pocket.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
Yeah, that was my back pocket, not thinking anybody was gonna,
you know, roman candle me on my you know, my
upper left cheek and they got me good. Yeah, So
then anyway, it was there. He was reminded me because
I forgot about that. Was reminding me about that. Remember
the time you all the bottle rockets on to the
back of your shirt.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
That's a whole new meaning. And putting lighting a fire on.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
The My whole shirt was like shredded. Looked like somebody
shot me with a machine gun.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
It was.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
It was ridiculous. But yeah, be careful, be safe, be
responsible out there. Don't don't go out there and lightens.
Don't be like our promotions person near Miranda Emmons and
just lighting haphazardly lighting off fireworks where she's standing in
the doorway right.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Now, hitting her. I guess the fireworks from across the border.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
Yeah right, she was, Yeah, not even cross that. She
was talking about Guatemalad fire wheks. She hadn't got a
secret fireworks. I've never heard it before. So yeah, you know,
she used to work on a cruise ship. She used
to be, she says, sails the sea. She's got people
at all these ports. Oh got all kinds of gangs
a Central America.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
The fireworks from the same person that Joe dirty guy
his wrom.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Yeah, yeah, well I like her sneaks and sparklers. He mean,
you ain't got no fizz blasters. Hello, I used to
be able to do that whole ramt man that was
with or without a scooter stick. That was so good. Lebron,
let the Lakers know he's coming back, but he's not
coming back to the Lakers. You and I've talked about

(04:21):
this a little bit. I know Golden State is interested
her some rumors, but you know, Cleveland maybe trying to
bring it back one run it back one more time.
If you're Lebron James, where do you go?

Speaker 3 (04:30):
I would have to say I would.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
I would go to Golden State, even though that the
way that everyone's kind of positioned is just like, well,
it's a bunch of old guys getting together to make
one last run. I'd like that a whole lot better
than going back to Cleveland. He's already done the Cleveland
thing in his hometown. He went back, he won a
title there. And I know James Harden has kind of

(04:55):
opted out his contract sort of like Draymond Green, to
kind of free up some other money. But I don't
think that it's a great spot for Lebron James partnering
with Draymond Green Anthony Davis if they able to make
that trade. And Steph Curry, to me, that was a
group that has played together before and Steve curR has
been around that group when you think about the Olympic team,

(05:17):
so they would have instant chemistry. And I know some
people are wondering, like, well, who's going to take the
last shot. We know who's going to take the last shot.
That's Stephan Curry. And the other part about it is like, Okay,
well all these guys have not been oh they have
sustained injuries over their career, so it's going to be tough.
And I'm like, well, here's a great thing about it.

(05:38):
Because you're surrounded by so many pieces, you can deferge
a different guy, so it doesn't have to be one
guy trying to carry the whole low. But I'm i
as a fan, I'm hoping that they're able to make
this happen because I want to see what happens when
Golden State goes to Los Angeles and Lebron makes us return.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
Well, I imagine the team will with all their fresh new
endorsement deals that ta going to get from having those guys,
right metamusil fiber con, reverse mortgages, every other thing you see, yeah,
every other commercial you see while watching the prices, right No,
I mean, yeah, it's just it's interesting to me if

(06:19):
they're able to pull that off and sort of run
that back Davis. Davis isn't as old, he's been hurt
the last couple of years, and so that that'll be interesting.
But you know, the other guy's a little aging, you know,
aging bowl as it were, and so you know, you
go from there. I don't know, I don't know if
it'll work, but we'll see. But the other part of
this that that is fascinating to me is Lebron waited

(06:41):
till today to do it. Yesterday, Brownie James's deal became
fully guaranteed for two point three million for the season.
He waited until the day after his contract got fully
guaranteed so his son could get his money well before
announcing it.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Wait, that is bloody brilliant. I mean, just like having being.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
A dad and playing long enough to have your son
play with you, and even kind of I don't want
to say, muscling the Lakers and Rob Polinka and Jenny
Buss into making this move for for Bronni. Hey, so
many guys I know would love to be in that
particular position. But this is what you do. I mean,
your job isn't as a parent to set your kids

(07:24):
up for success. And by Lebron holding off this to
allow his son to get that guarantee contract, kudos say him. Man,
that's awesome. Man.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
Would you wouldn't you want to do the same thing
for your kid? Would you not? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (07:37):
I mean you know, our own guy Kyle Clark here
in town was like, I aspire to be this good
a father to my children.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
Yes, freaking abso freaking Louie. And have we ever seen
in sports a dad play against his son. We we've
seen King Griffy Jr. And his dad played together the Bonds.
Do they play together the whole time?

Speaker 1 (08:02):
I think so? Barry Bond Senior.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
I don't know, but I don't know if we've ever
seen play against one another.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
You know, Hal McCrae, Brian McCrae, but they were he
managed him. I'm struggling to think of one where they
played against each other.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
Look once again, I mean, it's.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Such a narrow group of people.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Yeah, it is, But think about how spectacular that would be,
not only for the legacy of Lebron, James and Brownie,
but just Adam Sila in the NBA. In this totality,
I mean, I love everything about it. I'm rooting for
the Golden State Warriors to be able to make this move.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
Now.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
In order to do it, you still have this whole
thing with Anthony Davis.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
And Washington, and Lebron is going on a record and say, hey, listen,
he would only be willing to go to Golden State
if they can make their trade for Anthony Davis. Obviously,
because the whole Clutch sports. That would mean that Jimmy
Butler and maybe some other guys would find themselves shipped
off to Washington.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
If you're able to.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
Keep Chris sat Porzingis and add him to Anthony Davis,
that's enough to challenge. Dare I say the young winbyamen
and the Spurs. Okay, see the moves that Minnesota's made
and even rival or challenge the New York Knicks who
just won a title. So this is this would be

(09:23):
great in my opinion. This is just me as as
a basketball fan. I would love to see this as
this one final run, right, the last run for this
group of guys and seeing if they can actually go
back and win a title.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Yeah, I mean, I I don't know if. I mean,
it'll be entertaining. We'll all be tuned in one way
or the other whether they can or can't. But you know,
and I'm gonna obviously make seniors ines and jokes the
entire time, but uh yeah, I mean, at this point,
this has got to be a farewell tour. You would
think for a lot of these guys, maybe maybe all
of them, you know, so that that part it will

(10:00):
be interesting as well. I remember the farewell tour for Kobe,
you know, and and all that. I wonder if this
will be sort of the same thing, because I mean,
at this point, Lebron's going full far with the WILLI
or won't he you know, retire stuff.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
I mean, this would be a perfect way to retire.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
You just add another conversation apiece and that whole you know,
goat debate between Kobe, Michael and Lebron. Lebron has an
attention to get another title and say that he's he's
done it with different teams, right, and we'll be able
to say, as Michael Jordan fans, well, Michael never had

(10:39):
to do that. But kudos to you for winning as
many titles as you did. But this, this is great.
I mean we've seen big threes put together before, right,
but we've never seen a big four put together.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
And this and this should ben.

Speaker 2 (10:56):
And should should tell all other players at any stage
of your career you can actually get together with a
bunch of buddies and form some of what people are
now calling the Avengers.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
Right, you can do that, you get together.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
People have called the show the Avengers before Grants Hawkeye
because he never misses you. You're the incredible Hulk because
you're staying green from flipping over at gate raight table.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
Oh come on, man, let go.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
And I think that makes me Tony Stark because.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
How God get Green's Earth that you keep refer to
yourself as Tony Star.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
All of the reasons. I think we all know that's
a two billionaire playboy flatthropist in his own mind. Anyway, Yeah, now,
I it was I thought that was interesting. I thought
it was fascinating that Lebron waited the course till the
sun got the you know, I just just I was like, Okay, cool,

(11:48):
good on you. That's that's you know, take care of
family and all that kind of stuff. That's whether or
not I can drag Brodny with me. I got him
taken care of. At least that's two point three million
in his pocket.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
Well, very true.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Now with the sock of my basketball and talking about
the Western Conference, how do you think the move with
mephis moving John Morant to Portland and put.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
It together with Dame Lillard, how do you think that.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
Is going to work. I'm not sure that's going to work.
I'm not sure that's I'm not sure that's going to
be a final look of that backcourt.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
So you think they could move.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
Dame or possibly amongst other things, I think they want
to bring in Jaylen Brown, and I think there's other
moves that could happen there with that Paul Portland situation.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
So all of these moves are being made across the
landscape of the NBA.

Speaker 3 (12:39):
A lot of the moves, big moves are being made in.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
The West, and I can't help but once again think
about the Denver Nuggets.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
Why are they not in on some of these moves.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
Is it just strictly because, hey man, they made some
poor management moves before. As far as money give contracts,
we know Christian Brown had that extensive contract. And is
it because the Nuggets might not be able to move
away from the money? Is that one of the reasons
that the Nuggets are staying fast? And I guess still

(13:15):
in the mindset of running it back.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
Man, I think the Nuggets are trying to figure out
exactly how they're going to move forward here. Because you're
kind of stuck in a rock in our place. You
got to bust it up at least a little bit
in order to make some move. If you do need depth,
you've got to try to pay Peyton Watson. You don't
know you're going to hit the apron if you do, so,
you're going to have to figure out a way because
basically you've got the backside of Nicola Yokicch's window happening.

(13:42):
Now you've probably got two years of prime. Yokic left
and then you're done right, and then you're on the
back side of it. You're already on the backside. You
read two years of prime, and then it starts sipping
in decline. Aaron Gordon, this guy who keeps breaking down
at the end of the year. Jamal Murray has been streaky.
Christian Brown has not been what you needed, and neither
was Cam Johnson. And you've got to figure out a
way to move some of those pieces in order to
be able to get some of these pieces. And I

(14:04):
don't know, if you know, I don't know if they're
going after Jaylen Brown. I when I talked to somebody
over there a couple of weeks ago that didn't think
seem like it was a thing that It doesn't mean
they haven't changed their mind or they weren't just you know,
BS and me, whatever, But I you know, I don't know.
It felt to me like Jamal Murray could could be
on the move in the right situation, but it had
to be the right situation, and they were trying to

(14:25):
figure out a way to get somebody to take that
Brown contract. I'd figure that out from there. I don't know.
I mean, they didn't get their guy in the draft.
They wanted de Lauria. He went to the Mavericks one
pick before they get to pick that would have made
Cam Johnson expendable. So I don't know, but it seems
to me like the Nuggets have got to figure something
out here because they they're not going to change coaches.

(14:45):
They're sticking with Adelman, although they're trying to bring somebody
with some experience in on the staff, and it feels
like you're kind of wasting away the last bit of
nicolea Jokic.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
I feel as though the ass excuse me of Denmer
Nuggets they're trying to figure this out because here's what
they're faced with. Their face with the present and their
face with the future. What do they want those things
to look like? And I have to believe as a
part of them that believe that they can actually wait

(15:18):
this out right, kind of wait this situation out and
they'll still be okay. Now that's their mentality. What I
feel is though their mentality is but looking at how
the NBA continues to show a certain level of evolution,
you can no longer stay the same teams are getting
parting ways with some of their marquee players, Like had

(15:42):
I told you three years ago that Mephis would pard
ways and trade a guy like John Moran, that Giannis
Antekoupo would be with the Miami Heat. That the fact
that Lebron is opting out of the Lakers and he's
looking to join other teams and going to State could
be that team. I mean you probably would say, man,

(16:03):
none of that is foreseeable or what actually happened. But
things are changing in the NBA, and if the Nuggets
don't learn to adjust and adjust right now with the
moving tide of the NBA, they got to find themselves
with a great player in the Kola Jokic who eventually
was going to tap out and say, you know what,
I'm going back to serve your hanging out with my horses.

Speaker 1 (16:24):
Yeah, or are going somewhere else and he hasn't signed
his deal yet, could go somewhere else?

Speaker 2 (16:29):
Come on, I don't believe that Nikola Yokis would go
anywhere else. Is either Denver or nowhere else.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
Nowhere else, Soka, I had, you know some team that
they feel like they can put the right guys around,
maybe he goes and joins Lebron and the Avenging Options.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
Nah, he wouldn't do that.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
We got to uh, we had hit a break here.
Broncos Country Tonight will be back credit for this. Welcome
back to it, Broncos Country Tonight's short show post Rockies edition,
Bright Aedick Ferguson here with you and of course we
appreciate you guys along for the ride Thursday, full show,
full live show, so looking forward to that. The Broncos,

(17:05):
by the way, send out the release today for twenty
twenty six training camp. The dates available. I think there
are fourteen dates available. You got to go to a ticketmaster.
You can do it tomorrow Wednesday morning, ten am Mountain
Standard time to get tickets. Now. Tickets are free, but
you have to have them, so you got to go
to Ticketmaster. It'll start first practice each July thirty. First,
it's a Friday at ten am. The Saturday training camp

(17:28):
back together weekend starts August first. That's Saturday at ten am,
and then Monday, August third, Tuesday, August fourth, Wednesday, August fifth, Thursday,
August sixth, Friday, August seventh, Saturday August eighth, you'll miss
that Sunday and then Monday the tenth, eleventh, twelfth, they're
off again until the seventeen, eighteen and nineteen. All those

(17:48):
are ten am practices. But if you want to go
on a Saturday or on a weekend, you really have
the thirty first first that Friday Saturday or the August eighth,
the only weekend practices that are out. The rest of
these are gonna be weekday practices, but everything's gonna be
a ten am. There's like fourteen of them, So you
gotta go to ticket Master tomorrow starting at ten am

(18:10):
Mountain standard time to be able to get those. They
are free, but you got a tickets to get in.
So there is that Nick speaking of the Broncos and
running back room, think I need to milk the most
out of this running back room. I have my own
thoughts on it, and it's maybe, you know, leaving running
backs in for drives and letting them be multifaceted rather
than putting them in on specific downs like Sean Payton does.

(18:32):
I know that it has been a complaint of running
backs playing for Shampaete in the past. They can't get
into a rhythm because they get you know, you shuffled
in and out. What do you say about that.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Well, I don't like the idea of shuffling in and out,
and the obfice is great to have a stable of
different running backs with complimentary skills. But I'm a firm
believer whomever you have out there in that one position,
you let that guy work that possession.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
Now.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
I mean, you could make some subtle changes on third down,
but not enough, as though we've seen in years past
where it slows down the momentum that the offense is generated.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
And I would agree with the running backs.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
It's hard to get into a rhythm when you're constantly
taking out you don't know how many reps you're going
to get. And I'll say this playing for Mike Shenahan,
I know he would tell the running backs say, listen,
you can expect to get this amount of touches or
targets if you will. And he had a strong tendency,
Mike Shenahan that is is to stay with that particular runner.

Speaker 3 (19:37):
And there are people who may be.

Speaker 2 (19:40):
Of the belief that you're not going to be as
successful if you have more than two running backs that
you are featuring in your offense. And I say, man,
I beg to differ being around Mike Shenahan as a
player being around Kyle Shanahan. From a coaching standpoint, the
idea is, you add to your weaponry, you add to

(20:01):
your arsenal, and if you have a multitude of different
running backs that you can deploy against any defense, that's
what I thought you did, because you're trying to win.

Speaker 1 (20:11):
The freaking game, right. I am of the opinion that
if you've got a hot hand, you're right it at
the running back position. I've always been that way. And
you got a guy who's doing and I feel like
that there are situations where you could get JK. Dobbins
six seven plays in a row and then pull him
out and put RJ in there. There there are situations,
but the way that they do it is so so rigid.
It's like, it's JK on first down, it's RJ on

(20:32):
second down, it's time of a day on third down,
Well that'll be John Coleman. But yeah, you know, I mean,
and I just I don't I mean, that doesn't make
a whole lot of sense to me. I don't get that.
There were times JK got second down stuff. You know,
there were there were times that bled over a little bit,
but really you just don't let a guy get into
a rhythm. We've talked to guys before TV's come in here,
talked about it before. You need to get in that rhythm,

(20:52):
start feeling it. You know, you get a couple of
looks and you start feeling. And I don't know if
that contributes to how much Sean Payton passes the football
boat Nicks let the NFL asking attempts last year. I
don't know if it's just a bypridt to the way
he does things, because I don't remember Parcels doing that
back in the day.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
No, I mean Parcelles wanted to run the ball, right.
I go back to watching the Buffalo Bills and the
New York Giants in the Super Bowl. I think with
Scott Norman, who missed the game win the field goal
for the Buffalo Bills. But otis Anderson, an older running
back at that who was that Bail Coyle running back

(21:28):
at that time? Because there's so many intricate parts of
this game, and we've seen over the years of running
back position become so devalued. As a guy that coached
and played on the defensive side of the ball, to me,
that's one of the intricate parts to the success of
any offense. I know so much relies heavily on or

(21:49):
just put on the quarterbacks. And like you said, both
Knicks had I mean a number amount of passing attempts,
ridiculous amount of passing attempts. And it's just like, Okay,
well you doing that because your passing game is so
explosive and efficient. It's like, no, you're doing it because
it gives appearance that the running game is deficient, but

(22:09):
it's not. It can't get on track because you keep
throwing the ball. And if this Broncos or there I say,
this iteration of the Broncos with Davis Webb is to succeed,
you have to run the ball at a higher clip
than you did over the probably a couple of years
on the Sean Payne, Yeah, I.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
Mean, and I wonder, I mean, if you've talked about
Davis Webb and what he could bring, and you could
see more checks to runs simply by if Web does
bring air raid type stuff, that's what the air rate
at the quarterback. When you're playing in the air raide,
you got three four plays in your pocket. You walk
up in the line of scrimmage and the first thing
you're doing is a hat count in the box. If

(22:49):
there's a light box you're running, you just go back
to the run. And so there are situations where I
think that could that could work, or that could help.
But I wonder how much of that is Bo wanting
to throw, wanting the ball in his hands. And you know,
being the NFL leader in passing attempts last year, it
feels like that this offense is going to continue to

(23:10):
throw the ball quite a bit. And there is the
way they do things. There's things to that that are okay,
but they're going to have to run more if they
want to be successful in the way that they want
to be successful down the stretch.

Speaker 2 (23:23):
Well, if I am Bo Nicks, I will look at
Sam Donald right and say I look at Sam Donald,
and I will look at another guy that Sean Payton
coast in Dallas, right and say, Okay, well, how well
did Tony Romo do?

Speaker 3 (23:40):
Right?

Speaker 2 (23:41):
Tony Romo put up a lot of gaudy numbers with
the Cowboys, but did he ever make it to the
Super Bowl? And do you consider Tony Romo to be
in that upper echelon of quarterbacks.

Speaker 1 (23:53):
I think he's in the Hall of Good, the Hall
of very Good. I don't think he's you know, I
think he's don't think he's Hall of Fame because he
never got the places he needed to go. And there
were some playoff jokes.

Speaker 2 (24:02):
Right right, But once again that goes back to too
much passing not enough running, because it's just like, I
think I got it this way.

Speaker 3 (24:10):
A surgeon went to school to cut, right.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
He doesn't want to any outpatient stuff and he don't
want to give you a sling or whatever.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
No, he wants to cut.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
And some former quarterbacks heard OC's they have that same philosophy,
and I'm like, man, you have to show that you
have the ability to switch gears just a little bit.
I'm not saying abandoning the passing game. No, I'm not
saying that, but I do know the play pass works

(24:40):
well and allows you to tack down the middle of
the field and even outside the numbers if there's a
threat of running the ball, because you have second level
and even third level defenders thinking about the run. And
when you're thinking so much about the run and your
eyes are not focused.

Speaker 3 (24:57):
On the past, and guess what they get you. That's
what you get.

Speaker 2 (25:01):
And I've seen it so many times where Jake Plummer
on the boot leg fake rollout hitting Ashley Lee or
Rod Smith or a McCaffrey down the field because guess
what the defense thought, They knew the play that was coming,
but guess what it was one of those old Snikey
type of moments.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
And with the.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
Players that the Broncos have now assembling, obviously including James
and Wade in that, think about the number of explosive
plays that.

Speaker 1 (25:26):
They were bad at explosive plays last year Broncos were
the worst in the.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
League, But think about the level of explosive plays that
could be on the horizon if you commit to the
run game, there's some play action and your quarterback.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
Is under center.

Speaker 1 (25:40):
Yeah, I'm I'm here for all of it. I mean,
we saw it last year with well he's in with
the Raiders now, but Kubiak running it up in Seattle,
Sam darl They get him sucked up and get that
Rashid Shaheed over the top, Jackson Smith and Jigba, you know,
you get them, You get those deep plays and you
know you've got waddle here, You've got the speed now
on the outside to be able to do that. Just

(26:01):
suck him up with the run and then hit him
with the deep shot. And that was the I think
that was the biggest thing lacking from the offense last year.
Obviously consistent run game after JK went down to the
other part that was just explosive pass plays, like just
you know, pass plays beyond fifteen yards twenty yards, and
they were not getting them. We saw I remember earlier
in the year, just that Boe would throw the ball

(26:21):
out there down the sideline and whoever it was that
was running down there, usually Troy, but sometimes other people
couldn't catch up with the ball.

Speaker 3 (26:26):
They couldn't.

Speaker 2 (26:27):
Also think about what we sell from Sam Donald in
the Super Bowl, right he said, you know what, I'm
going to be as eficient as I can. I don't
have to have five or six plays where they're explosive
pass plays. What he did was he took what the
defense was giving him with the Patriots, but he also
turned the ball around and him and Kennon Walker, which

(26:47):
made his life so much easier. If the Broncos are
able to do that with JK. Dobbins, RJ. Harvey and
Joanah Cooman, now you got essentially a three headed monster.
Most teams when you look at on the NFL, they
may only go too deep in the running back position
as far as being confident and efficient at that position.

Speaker 3 (27:08):
The Broncos potentially have three running.

Speaker 2 (27:11):
Backs if you do it right, and you can still
keep JK Dobbins healthy for the latter part of the season. So,
I mean, it's gonna be really interesting see how they
look at this situation, how they rotate these guys, how
much they do it, and if they're doing it at
a point where they're allowing each guy to find their

(27:32):
rhythm and then rotating them from a breather standpoint, from
just a breather standpoint, then this run game and the
Broncos will be successful.

Speaker 3 (27:40):
If not, they're gonna have problem that.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
And Jk's got to stay healthy. I mean, RJ unless
he takes a big leap forward. You know, he's he's
kind of a Swiss Army knife back, so he can
do a few things. He can run a little bit,
but it's more of a pass catching back out of
the backfield. And we don't know what Jonah Coleman is yet,
right If so, I you know, you drafted Jonah Coleman
to moving to third down roll and be the JK
Dobbins insurance. But at this point, we don't know what

(28:04):
he is yet. We won't know until we start, you know,
start seeing a little bit, and then that's the part
that's gonna be interesting to me. JK hasn't shown a
propensity to be able to stay healthy. He's very good
when he's healthy, but he hasn't show a propensity to
stay healthy be on eight nine games in a season,
and that presents a bit of a problem. I wonder
if you could see different types of rotations out of
the running back room. Maybe a game where JK is
getting a bulk of the carries and then he's kind

(28:24):
of off for two weeks while you, you know, let
the body recover a little bit while you rotate or
something like that, or give him a sparring number of carries.
I just wonder if there's there's creative ways that you
can do this one to keep JK healthy in two
to find ways to spell these running backs and get
the most out of these guys.

Speaker 2 (28:38):
Well, there's the way you do it, because you can
say you utilize all all back and I know some
teams have their third down specialist. That's what Tyler Braday
was supposed to be, which I don't.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
Think that he is.

Speaker 1 (28:50):
I mean he specialized in being out there on third down.

Speaker 3 (28:52):
Well, he's also specialized in dropping the ball up.

Speaker 1 (28:54):
Way, say he was present on third down for better
or worse?

Speaker 3 (28:58):
Present, he was, definitely, But you're looking for efficiency. So
last year RJ.

Speaker 2 (29:05):
Harvey had seven rushing touchdowns I believe in five receiving touchdowns.
So he became that red zone running back. I mean,
who's to say that in specialized situations you deployed the
backs in that particular way. Right, Hey, our red zone
guys are maybe Jonah Coleman and RJ.

Speaker 3 (29:27):
Harvey.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
The guy that kind of takes the ball from on
your own five to giving you enough confidence and reliability
is JK.

Speaker 3 (29:38):
Dobbins. Now. JK.

Speaker 2 (29:40):
Dobbins might get a little upset if he has incentives
in his contract as far as touchdowns, are concerned about
being pulled out in those situations. But this way, you
allow each guy to get into a groove, and these
guys who were specialized in certain things, you accentuate that
by showcasing them in those particular roles.

Speaker 1 (29:57):
Yeah, I just for me, I think it's going to
take a lot of training camp to sort of figure
out what these guys are. Everybody wanted to make r J.
Harvey a thing right away last year, and I'm like,
I mean, yeah, he catches well out of the backfield
and all that, but I'm not sure when it comes
to running the football what he is just yet. And
we saw what happened when JK went down. He's just
not a natural runner with the football. He wanted to
boat race guys to the edge still, which you know,
I mean, that works in that scheme in college, but

(30:18):
this is the pros and everybody's that fast and you're
not gonna be able to do that. So I'm hoping
RJ takes a step forward and we'll see what we
get out of out of Jonah Coleman. If he's able
to be that guy that can run between the tackles
and find those little creases and then turn that into
into a lot more. We've seen guys do it in
Sean Payton's scheme before it can be done. We've seen
running backs out there able to do it. So I'm
curious to see, you know, at the end of the day,

(30:40):
and then you know the passing number, there's the raw numbers.
I mean we led the NFL in passing attempts last year.
Boat didn't break four thousand yards, but we led the
NFL in passing attempts. We're gonna have to figure this
one out. I don't think Boat should be throwing that much.
I do think that it leads, especially if you got
a guy who's had broken ankles into pass anything that
leads to your quarterback getting hit that much a way
to take about one hundred those passes a tournament of

(31:02):
rushing attempts.

Speaker 3 (31:02):
Well, that's the way that you do it because by.

Speaker 2 (31:05):
Focusing on the run and putting a lot of pressure
and emphasis on them, and more importantly, the Broncos offensive
line and their run game coordinator Zach Streeth to me,
you help Bow out because now Bow doesn't feel as
though he has to put on his Josh Allen ky
and try to do some of these things that he's

(31:26):
been criticized for by making plays outside the pocket. Now,
if your running game is a trusted running game, he
feels really comfortable. Then also it opens opportunities for you know,
when you pick your spots though calculated, you know, risk
designated quarterback runs.

Speaker 1 (31:45):
Yeah, I don't want to see as many of those, though,
I'm gonna go with a few, maybe early in a
game or something to keep a defense, you know, honest,
but I don't want Bow out there running as much
as he has. I mean, I just you know, he
we saw what happens when he goes down. The last
thing you want to do is put him a risk.

Speaker 2 (31:59):
Well I'm not saying put him at risk, but if
you're running the ball at a high clip and as
you're really efficient, you are drawing the eyes of the defense,
where the defensive coordinator to say, okay, well, when they're
in this personnel grouping, here's what they have a tendency
to run. When they come out with this particular running back,
you can expect run eighty five percent of the time
in those types of plays. Then you may run a

(32:20):
design you'd run which may be a naked boot. Yeah, which,
now you got a naked boot. They see you run.
Now you're drawing their attention. Now it's naked boot. Now
you throw the ball down the field.

Speaker 3 (32:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (32:33):
Again, There's there's plenty of ways that they can do
that bait the defense. My thing is is like this year,
my biggest things are establishing the run, explosive plays, and
keeping the quarterback. I don't want to say in bubble wrap,
but keep it for getting hurt. You can't expose him
to what it was a six hundred and twenty passing attempts. However,
any rushing attempts can. You can't be running QB power
in overtime in a game where he's already dropped back

(32:54):
something like fifty times and your running backs have touched
the ball ten times. We got to find better balance
with some of that stuff this season, and that'll open
up all the other stuff. That'll open up the explosive plays.
They'll open up all.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
This well, hand the ball off to the damn running back,
open up play action, expand the field, create spacing, and
take advantage of that shiny new tour called Jalen Wattle.

Speaker 1 (33:17):
All right, Yeah, I'm so here for I'm looking forward
to seeing how they do that. We've seen a few
things in some of the mini camp. They've done a
little jet sweep stuff, that kind of stuff, and not
a lot of the vertical stuff. I think that that
we want to see out of Jalen Wattle this year.
You know, we know how Sean Payton is. He likes
to open things up aggressive. You likes to open the
season up with a deep shot, open up a game
with a deep shot. That kind of stuff. I'm looking

(33:38):
forward to, you know, to seeing some of the verticality
of that and that Jayleen Wattle is not gonna you know,
he's so fast, he's not going to let balls get
beyond him. You know, we saw some of that last year.
Like I talked about Colcordland Troy the deep ball down
the sideline that couldn't catch up to it. Uh, Jayla
Wattle that had that problem. He's got that kind of
speed that he's going to catch up to it.

Speaker 2 (33:55):
No, he doesn't have that that that that issue. But
once again, it's about using your whole arsenal. If you
spend all this off season coming up with these elaborate plays,
why not run all of it.

Speaker 3 (34:09):
I mean, don't don't shortsight you're smpty.

Speaker 2 (34:11):
The club the player. Yes, empty the clip, but make
sure you're not doing that for the July weekend. We
don't want you to do that. But yeah, no, no,
be safe for the Broncos A concern empty the clip.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
Yeah, we want you all to be saved. Fourth of
July weekend, Like I said, we got full show uh
coming up on Thursday, and then we're all for the
holiday weekend, so we hope you guys enjoy it just
as much as we are about to. That'll do it
for Broncos Country tonight tonight. We'll see kids tomorrow
