people discuss this on social media, and you're right when
it comes to bow.

gonna lay it out to let you know how some
of these executives and this Jeremy Fowler report, why they
decided to do what they decided to do as far
as the rankings are concerned. And here's what you need

to know, Broncos Country, right off the bat, A lot
of this is not really on bon Nicks. Some of
it it is, some of it is not in its totality.
Here's what I mean by that when we look at

he dropped to Marvin Mahms for touchdowns against a Grant Smith.
That's a Cincinnati Bengals. Yes, that's who Day was really
love there. But some of these quarterbacks on this list,
they have a lot of explosive plays down the field.

Looking at this situation over these these executives are looking
at it how we may look at baseball.

once again, those passes that he threw down the field,
some of them were Bow's fault based on being able

But at the same time, what about all those drops?

home runs of the season, but he puts the ball

And then you got these other guys that can hit
the long ball, like Kyle Schwarber.

But he's also got a two fifty four batting average,
and I mean he's twenty. He's only getting on base
twenty five percent of the time and so at the
end of the day, like it's it's contrasting styles. As
far as that goes, Alex Smith would have been more
in the bow Knicks mold right, put the ball in play,
my guy. Now that you've got a Jalen waddle, I
think this changes the calculus a little bit because we
had guys who couldn't catch up to the ball.

We saw that, right, Tory Franken couldn't catch up to
the ball or couldn't catch it. Uh, he had the
one play against the Colts, but by and large it
was it was it was pretty bad, which is why
Julea models here. Now Courtland Sudden, you had a miscast
going for those long balls like that. You want him
on the on the the deep comeback, you want him
on the outside of the the jump ball to contest
to catch stuff. He's miscast running a fly out down
the sideline, trying to beat people. That's that's not his game.

So you know, I think that bow does need to
take steps forward and some things like if you got
criticisms of bo Nicks the first I started asking people
and Nick will Who's uh he had all these passive

criticism of Bonnicks. That's the criticism of a box score.

you want to say he doesn't attempt to throw the

that makes fans of fantasy owners jump out of the seats,
and I know Sean Payton's not calling plays to suit
fantasy owners, but that's.

That's why I gave the comparison to when we are
looking at quarterbacks and how well they're doing in the
passing game to home runs in baseball, because everyone loves
to ooh and ah on explosive type of play and
you're looking for those home run type balls and last season,
how many times, I mean, we've seen videos and you
watch games where Josh Allen is rolling out and a

defense starts to come close to him and then he
launched that sucker down the field or he sees the
pass rush coming and then there's a hole that opens,
he takes it off and he run like he rushed
from on the left hand side. Snow game where Cincinnati
was playing Buffalo, he ran like a thirty yard tests sound.
So he was doing it both on the ground and

in the air. And we've seen it with Ba being
able to skate with his feet and extending drives, but
not in a Josh Allen type way. I feel, just
like you just said, with the addition of Jalen Waddle,
those numbers are those types of wow or impressive type plays.
We should see more of those this season and then

come next season.

I predict that bow Nick should be higher on these.

win games? And the answer to that is a resounding yes.
Bo Nicks led the NFL in game winning drives. He
had five fourth quarter comebacks. He had seven game winning
drives last year.

quarterbacks on this list, they give you that and they
got the clutch gene. When you think about Kayla Waives,

that in the second year with the new OC and
the head coach, that he can do it. Joe Burrow
has been doing it ever since he was at LSU.

though he can't run, he relies heavily on his arm,
which reminds me of a lot of those nineties quarterbacks

that I grew up watching.

He embodies that true gunslinger mentality.

For Bow to be viewed in this upper echelon of quarterbacks,
people want to see him do it on a consistent basis,
from from the beginning of the kick to the end
of the whistle.

But I'm not sure a whole lot of that's on Bow.

We had the same problem with the offense being sluggish
for three quarters when.

just kind of run its course. I mean, you want
to have your hands in everything, and trying to manipulate

Like, okay, yes, but they were not it was It
wasn't a massive amount of those on a consistent basis.
This is why he's been looking. He's being viewed in
under this lens. But here's a great thing about it.
He has an opportunity to break through all of this.
And if he's looking at or anyone around him, the

Broncos like, man, we got two fingers for you, right,
and they're saying you're number one technically speaking Hawaiian style
Hawaiian style. But it's just like Bo has a lot
of potential and the first thing he has to come
back from is this whole foot injury. Show that he
can get back out there on the horse and play

better young quarterbacks in this league in my opinion, as

the pocket, and he was forced to do that because
pressure kind of seep into his lap, so he was

you know plays that I think that Sean Payton gets
away from sometimes because that was an obscene amount of
screen attempts last year, and everyone on Earth knew when

because we didn't have the consistency to get right there
you go. And so I think I think hevin Davis
Webbin there to put some other concepts in there and
execute on those and as well as trying to get
that run game a little bit more stable. I think
that'll help solidify that. But you know, at the end
of the day, if the rest of the world thinks
that bon Nick is Andy Dalton, then we know he's you know,
Alex Smith plus plus.

people discuss this on social media, and you're right when
it comes to bow.

Absolutely, but this gives him room for improvement. And it's
not going to make sense to Broncos Country, But I'm
gonna lay it out to let you know how some
of these executives and this Jeremy Fowler report, why they
decided to do what they decided to do as far
as the rankings are concerned. And here's what you need

to know, Broncos Country, right off the bat, A lot
of this is not really on bon Nicks. Some of
it it is, some of it is not in its totality.
Here's what I mean by that when we look at
what you just talked about, Ben, and that's something I
know Ryan Air was always talking about right. Hey, the
fourth quarter comebacks all being so great. With the fourth

quarter comebacks, let's look at why those comebacks are so
Once again, the defense kept you in the game to
give you that ability to make those comebacks, for one,
And everyone is looking at okay, well, what did you
do in the first three quarters? What did you do
in the first half where you could have helped your defense.

So some of these executives are in quarterback comparison looking
at things in that way. Now, if you put CJ.
Stroud on that list and you say that, did you
have c J. Stroud listed higher than bau or below
bow on that list?

Stroud as Joe's were listed all over.

Stroud are in the same tier. And when you look

Patrick Mahome is, because Mahomes.

Didn't have a Mahomes statistical type of year, but he's
still freaking Patrick Mahomes. But I think one of the
guys that everyone is little shocked is Caleb Williams being
on this list and where he is.

And I would say, you.

Know, Caleb Williams made a lot of those jaw dropping
throws multiple and I think the things that count against
both Nicks is we didn't really see Bowl push the
ball down the field a lot, you know, in his
second year, as though we saw in his first year.
Obviously we know the past or two passes he of dimes,

he dropped to Marvin Mahms for touchdowns against a Grant Smith.
That's a Cincinnati Bengals. Yes, that's who Day was really
love there. But some of these quarterbacks on this list,
they have a lot of explosive plays down the field.

We don't see that from Bowl. So so we're.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
Looking at this situation over these these executives are looking
at it how we may look at baseball.

Right, it's about the long ball?

What was the drop?

Uh? Grant Chicks, Dick belong Longo.

And that's how we look at exposive plays, and that's
how we for the most part evaluate quarterbacks fair or not.
But that's how some of these executives look at Sometimes.

You can hit the long ball and not be efficient
enough with the other stuff to where it's not you.

Know, people but fans don't care about.

Here's the other part of that the long ball.

Botnicks led the NFL and twenty plus yard touchdowns last
year with thirteen of them.

He was tied with Caleb Williams, they had the most.
But he may consistent enough.

So there's a difference between Miguel Tolia and Echiro the
long ball.

But each row was putting the ball in players. That's right.

It's consistency and BOE's ability to do it a lot.
And once again, to be fair to both, this is
not me getting down on both, but trying to explain
to you why the evaluators have looked to put these
rankers in this particular way. Bo was put in very
difficult spots last year, and which we're talking about a
number of passing attempts, so almost I.

Think he was second, first and back.

So because he didn't really have that help where he
could turn the ball, turn around and hand the ball
off to someone and run a lot of play passes,
he was subjected to throwing a lot of passes down
the field and some of those ended up incomplete. Now,
once again, those passes that he threw down the field,
some of them were Bow's fault based on being able

to set his feet squares show to make accurate throws.
But at the same time, what about all those drops?

This this report, this rankings, this rate. They don't account
for that. But that's what we need to add.

As far as why Bow is perceived as being as
low as he is, because I was a number of

a team that Broncos were behind the Jags. I yeah,
that's the thing. I mean, Bow is to put it
in modern parla, I said eachier Row. I don't know,
some of the kids aren't gonna get that. Bow is
Otto Lopez. Right, Otto Lopez leads, he leads Major League
Baseball in batting average.

Right, he puts the ball play.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
Didn't need a lot of home runs, only get nine
home runs of the season, but he puts the ball
in play.

Right, He's got a three thirty four batting average. Uh.

And then you got these other guys that can hit
the long ball, like Kyle Schwarber.

He leads the Major he's got thirty two thirty two holds.

But he's also got a two fifty four batting average,
and I mean he's twenty. He's only getting on base
twenty five percent of the time and so at the
end of the day, like it's it's contrasting styles. As
far as that goes, Alex Smith would have been more
in the bow Knicks mold right, put the ball in play,
my guy. Now that you've got a Jalen waddle, I
think this changes the calculus a little bit because we
had guys who couldn't catch up to the ball.

We saw that, right, Tory Franken couldn't catch up to
the ball or couldn't catch it. Uh, he had the
one play against the Colts, but by and large it
was it was it was pretty bad, which is why
Julea models here. Now Courtland Sudden, you had a miscast
going for those long balls like that. You want him
on the on the the deep comeback, you want him
on the outside of the the jump ball to contest
to catch stuff. He's miscast running a fly out down
the sideline, trying to beat people. That's that's not his game.

So you know, I think that bow does need to
take steps forward and some things like if you got
criticisms of bo Nicks the first I started asking people
and Nick will Who's uh he had all these passive
attepts but didn't have four thousand yards. That's not a
criticism of Bonnicks. That's the criticism of a box score.
What's your criticism of bone Nicks? And I'm like, if
you want to say he doesn't attempt to throw the
ball in the deep third, okay, I'm here for that,
because he doesn't throw the ball between the hash and

this or are you reading the numbers off a chart

crossing routes. Right, All crossing routes, albeit are explosive plays,

but they're not one of those those types of plays
that makes fans of fantasy owners jump out of the seats,
and I know Sean Payton's not calling plays to suit
fantasy owners, but that's.

That's why I gave the comparison to when we are
looking at quarterbacks and how well they're doing in the
passing game to home runs in baseball, because everyone loves
to ooh and ah on explosive type of play and
you're looking for those home run type balls and last season,
how many times, I mean, we've seen videos and you
watch games where Josh Allen is rolling out and a

defense starts to come close to him and then he
launched that sucker down the field or he sees the
pass rush coming and then there's a hole that opens,
he takes it off and he run like he rushed
from on the left hand side. Snow game where Cincinnati
was playing Buffalo, he ran like a thirty yard tests sound.
So he was doing it both on the ground and

in the air. And we've seen it with Ba being
able to skate with his feet and extending drives, but
not in a Josh Allen type way. I feel, just
like you just said, with the addition of Jalen Waddle,
those numbers are those types of wow or impressive type plays.
We should see more of those this season and then

come next season.

Bo Nicks led the NFL in game winning drives. He

drives last year.

To lead the NFL. Right that that answers the question.

There's three tiers of quarterbacks in the NFL, right, there's three. Okay,
we win because of this guy. We win with this guy,
and we're crying tears. The third tier, we're crying teers
looking for a new one. Actually, okay, four tiers. There's
a rookie we don't know yet.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
I mean, hey, guys, Grant, you can chime in here
if you want to. Well, I'll say this all being
in impressive. This is what we saw from bow Knicks
in the fourth quarter. Can't take that back. You need
a guy who can serve it up when you need
it the most. But I think more people want to
see the Broncos and more or less bow Knicks give

you that same energy for four quarters. Some of these
quarterbacks on this list, they give you that and they
got the clutch gene. When you think about Kayla Waives,
he had that coming out out of USC.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
A lot of people were down on him.
Speaker 4 (13:29):
They were not really trusting of it, but he showed
that in the second year with the new OC and
the head coach, that he can do it. Joe Burrow
has been doing it ever since he was at LSU.
Matthew Stafford a veteran on this list. I mean, even
though he can't run, he relies heavily on his arm,
which reminds me of a lot of those nineties quarterbacks
(13:52):
that I grew up watching.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Right, We all saw Dan Marino, Yes, so.
Speaker 5 (13:56):
He embodies that true gunslinger mentality.
Speaker 4 (13:59):
For Bow to be viewed in this upper echelon of quarterbacks,
people want to see him do it on a consistent basis,
from from the beginning of the kick to the end
of the whistle.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
But I'm not sure a whole lot of that's on Bow.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
We had the same problem with the offense being sluggish
for three quarters when.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
Russell Wilson was here with Sean Payton.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Russell Wilson led the NFL in fourth quarter comebacks when
he was here.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
So really, I think, and.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
This is part of the reason I think Shawn's no
longer the play caller is because you had you had
three quarters of man, I don't know, and then you
turn the quarterback loose and the quarterback carried you. And
I think Sean Payton is one of the best play
designers in NFL history. I noticed you gonna say, but
I think his situational play.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
You've seen me on Twitter, You've seen me. You that
next to me at games. You and I have both
had the same foot What are we doing?
Speaker 1 (14:50):
You know there are moments in situational football where you know,
Sean Payton, I think he's a culture builder.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
I think he's a great play designer.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
But this is the problem that I've had since he
got here is the same in that I think his
ego gets in the way and I think he, in
his mad genius moments and I'm using that air quotes,
gets into these situations where he wants the stage dial
up the pass to set up more passing, and I'm like, bro,
just put the ball in the running back's hand and
let him punch it in.
Speaker 5 (15:14):
It isn't that the issue with And we've seen it.
Speaker 4 (15:17):
And I've seen it with players that I've played against
in my era where guys were given these so called
genius titles as quarterbacks or coordinators, and sometimes because of that,
you're trying to live up to that legacy so much.
You have a tendency to overthink things and the small
things become so much larger than what they truly are
(15:40):
because you're not really willing to allow certain things to
just kind of run its course. I mean, you want
to have your hands in everything, and trying to manipulate
everything is like, sometimes that's not what it calls for, right,
Give the power to your players to be able to
diagnose players.
Speaker 5 (15:57):
And for the first two years.
Speaker 4 (15:59):
Of bo Nick's career, that's kind of been the case.
It's time in this third season to take the damn
training wheels off, right. I know the Bronco is gonna
have a lot of these training camp type of taglines,
but here's.

That's always been a thing for I love. Yeah, doubt me.
Put the chip on my shoulder, give me the give
me the fire of the motivation. Tell me I'm not good.
And this goes back to like some of the bets

that we have around here. Tell me I can't do something,
and I promise you I'm going to deliver on it.
We see, like my dad used to talk about fairs.

He's like, the only fair he wants to go to,
it's one that have ride and knows hues.

be fair. I've been drinking a few of those. Yeah,

always love trying to figure this stuff.

is an art quarterback ranked higher? And all that kind
of stuff, and You're people do want to see it,
they want to see it more consistently. But at the
same time, like I've adopted an attitude for years like
who cares. Underestimate me at your peril, yeap, underestimate my quarterback.

You know what I'm doing scoreboard, Look at where do
we go last year ANFC championship game.
Speaker 4 (21:20):
Yeah, that's something that fans always or were you in
that type of situation, You're always going to point to
the scoreboard when someone is chirping. But in this case,
it's some of these guys on this list are seasoned veterans.
Other guys in the case of Caleb Williams, no, he's not.
If I'm not mistaken, Caleb Williams, he was in the
same draft as Boat, right.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
Yeah, Caleb was the first quarterback tak and then Jayden,
then Drake May, then Michael Pennix, then JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Right, yeah, but.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
Me to Caleb Williams, credit to me, he dispelled a
lot of the negative rumors about him as a player.
Both he and bow Nicks have a similar skill set, right,
And once again I go back to it's it's those
those plays that make you go ooh and ah did.

To see that.
Speaker 5 (22:08):
Fans are looking for more of that.
Speaker 4 (22:10):
These individuals who were ranking bow Nick sail looking for
more of that. So when you look at some of
these quarterbacks on the top portion of this.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
List, they give you those o moments. Think about Matthew
Stafford with the no look throw. Right. We always talk
about the no look yeah, but he didn't have many.
He also had the Colts game, or was the one
where he rolled to the left and fired it down.
Me Bo had some. Bo had some money throws that
you were.
Speaker 4 (22:34):
Like, okay, yes, but they were not it was It
wasn't a massive amount of those on a consistent basis.
This is why he's been looking. He's being viewed in
under this lens. But here's a great thing about it.
He has an opportunity to break through all of this.
And if he's looking at or anyone around him, the
(22:55):
Broncos like, man, we got two fingers for you, right,
and they're saying you're number one technically speaking Hawaiian style
Hawaiian style. But it's just like Bo has a lot
of potential and the first thing he has to come
back from is this whole foot injury. Show that he
can get back out there on the horse and play
like he's played thus far. He's still one of the
better young quarterbacks in this league in my opinion, as
(23:17):
far as being able to make those throws outside of
the pocket, and he was forced to do that because
pressure kind of seep into his lap, so he was
able to.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
Make those types of plays.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
I hope that the offense is so stable this season
based on having a consistent run game.
Speaker 5 (23:33):
We see more play action pass and more shot down
the field that blows all of this crap.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
Out of the water. Yeah, I mean that's then, that
is part of it.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
If the run game is more consistent, you're gonna be
able to see them open it up and do more things.
I think Davis Webb's going to incorporate some things that
Sean Payton seems to forget. I think you're gonna see
more why stick, white cross. You're gonna see dual drags.
You know, you're gonna see shallow cross, air raid staple type,
you know plays that I think that Sean Payton gets
away from sometimes because that was an obscene amount of
screen attempts last year, and everyone on Earth knew when
(24:02):
we were throwing them. You could see them called wow
because we didn't have the consistency to get right there
you go. And so I think I think hevin Davis
Webbin there to put some other concepts in there and
execute on those and as well as trying to get
that run game a little bit more stable. I think
that'll help solidify that. But you know, at the end
of the day, if the rest of the world thinks
that bon Nick is Andy Dalton, then we know he's you know,
Alex Smith plus plus.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
Then what are we worried about? Why do we care
what other people think? Why do we care with it?
Speaker 1 (24:27):
Because Ryan and I used to get in this conversation
all the time, like, why do you care what national
people who peek in on the Broncos once a season,
twice a season, why do you care what they think?
Speaker 2 (24:34):
They don't know? Well, the reason.
Speaker 4 (24:36):
Fans care because unlike Cleveland who had a laundry list
of quarterbacks, the Broncos have had quarterbacks. You know they
They've had their fair share of quarterbacks you don't want
to mention, but for the most part, they have quarterbacks
who put up numbers, quarterbacks who were mainstays and either
the playoffs or take a trip to the super Bowl.

So that's what you're constantly comparing too. And that's a
different position to play here and demer you could play
outside pass rush.

Yeah, would you ever live up to DeMarcus where von Miller?
Probably not.

But Keth Robinson is not going to have the same
level of pressure that bow Nicks has at the quarterback
position because you got Jake Plumber, you have Peyton Manning,
and you have John Elway.

Well, I mean you can have Tim Tebow to that.

small little run at one point that.

Was like three games and then somebody suggested they pay
him and then he laid you know, like.

And after that, you know, it was like, yeah, don't

You said you asking for guys who had small little runs.

Yeah, but like that cop, you were like the hottest
thing a lot. Because Jeremy Lynn's run was insane and
so was Tim Tebow.

then you had to like the Flacco super.

Bowl run like where he got as hot as he
ever was in his career for like four games. The
t Bow run where he got him the playoffs and
won a playoff game like that.

I mean I would have to look at Joe Flacco
because Flacco has had a lot of those types of moments,
like when he when he left Cleveland and he went
to Cincinnati.

He had a couple of games where people were.

Like, oh my god, Joe was beat Yeah he hit
the fountain of youth and he was like, uh.

Yeah, Joe Blanco's got four games in him every year, Like.

That's you bet a pick and shooes where those four games?
So at the beginning the inn or in the middle.

Yeahs I just I was trying because that was I'm
trying to think what year was that Flacco was like
twenty twelve right where he went four to Oh he
did he had like twelve hundred yards, eleven touchdowns, no
interceptions and got paid Yeah.

I got paid off that he was a Super Bowl MVP.
I think there was anything like lynd sanity though the
Jeremy Lindey, I mean, that was that was pretty I.

Took over the biggest market in sports well a long time.

There was a reason it took over a big market
because he was unexpected to do what he was doing.
And then you add the demographic portion of it right
then that helped push him forward.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
So and think about it, he inspired so.
Speaker 4 (28:23):
Many kids who were I guess overlooked, and it made
a lot of those kids think like, hey, man, if
he can.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
Do it, I could do it too. Yeah, And I
mean he had a pretty decent career off that. I mean,
it wasn't it was a great career after that, but
he had a pretty decent career off that. He wound
up playing the league almost ten years.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
That's that's a damn good career, Ben. I like, he
didn't make.
Speaker 4 (28:47):
Any All Stars, but no, that's a good ten year run, right,
because he came in.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
Who is it that got hurt that he came in
for that year? I'm not sure, because he was he
had the previous year. He was a rookie. He'd been
a Golden State, right, he was.
Speaker 1 (28:59):
He played college ball to her, didn't get he went
to Golden State and he did almost nothing at Golden State.
He got he was to get in like thirty games,
average like three points a game, whatever. And then so
he went to the Knicks the next year, and I'm
trying he came in far that's right, Baron Davis. Yeah,
because Baron Davis went down and everybody's like, oh, it's over, and.

Then it was not over.
Speaker 4 (29:16):
So, so Ben, what's to be the more of the
story From a positive standpoint, I know that's something I'm
really stressing you on this one. But from a positive standpoint,
what's the people look really take away from.

This, you know, insanity thing?

What did they take away that when Chris Draftrey's saying
it's not over, he meant it.
Speaker 4 (29:41):

Now, I'm just saying because it is true though, right,
someone gets injured and we've heard the saying, you know,
another man's trash is another man's trying, and all that
equates to is opportunity. Someone goes down, you step in
and here's another one for you. Next man up right,
and you have to be willing to step into those shoes.
He stepped in those shoes.

He didn't step into those shoes. He took those shoes,
he put them on, He made them his own, and he,
like you know it, got a big contract off of it.

And you too can do that. Kids. Just know that yes,
you two can do it.
