Speaker 1 (00:00):
You can see this on Twitter, this video yesterday, this
(00:02):
bear stealing a man's golf clubs like his young bear,
and it steals his bag, his old bag and clubs
just runs off with it. Looks like it's like a
dog that found something, just because bears are kind of
like dog like in their mentality. And he just steals
the band's called and there's a like it's got a
brother bear like is running up trying to get him
from or whatever. Can you imagine that guy's wife's face
when he tells her he needs new clubs because a
(00:23):
bear stole them.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Buy all new clubs in a bag. Honey, a bear
stole my clubs?
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Do you name this bear? Yogi bear?
Speaker 4 (00:32):
Well?
Speaker 2 (00:33):
I mean at least he's got it on video. Yeah,
I would leave this if it wasn't on video. But
I'm just saying, like you a man like you know,
I mean, if you play golf, you know, expensive clubs
in a bag?
Speaker 5 (00:44):
Are?
Speaker 3 (00:44):
You know?
Speaker 2 (00:45):
All the good clubs in a bag are? So that's
that was fun. We got Cody Roar who.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
Hats to the ko Cospro Health hotline and bring on
our guy Cody Rourke from My Life Sports.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Cody, how you doing stee me.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
I'm good.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
It sounds like this has been a week where animals
are fighting back.
Speaker 5 (00:59):
First of Buffalo, and uh, I believe it's wyoming. The
guy went flying in the air and now they're still
in golf clubs. What's next?
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Yeah, I know.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
I think I told your story last night. I'll tell
it again. It is not meant to be political at all.
But I saw the like because I first saw the
announcement that Lindsay Graham had died and that buffalo video
like back to back, and I thought Lindsey Graham. I
thought he was the guy in the video at first,
Like there was this brief moment where I.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Thought he ducked it for the buffalo. It was Yeah,
there was a moment for me there.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
I was like, oh my god, really wow, that's uh
that was what it was saying.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
That buffalo video.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
I mean, it's funny, but it's also not funny, Like,
don't go disturbing bison.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
They will throw you all over the place.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
They're huge animals and they will absolutely clobber you, and
they are faster than you.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Like, what was that guy doing? Like you man had
a kid with him. I think at the beginning of
the video.
Speaker 5 (01:45):
Right Yeah, brutal, brutal, and luckily the kid got away.
I mean, I think maybe the next thing you got
to watch out for is the chad can't leave vacuum.
You gotta be careful that it's hot tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
We're starting this, starting this one off, right.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
A lot a lot going on around the league right now.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
I mean it's it's the dead season, but you still
got to you know, all the all the jockeying and
everything else for some of these some of these guys,
do we think that that I used the five days
and these guys are gonna get signed anytime soon?
Speaker 6 (02:13):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (02:14):
I mean it's hard. It's hard to tell. I mean
guys like you, guys like von miller Is, it's just
hard to tell right now. Depending on the circumstances around
the league. I mean, I think Bond's been more public
clamoring for every team you could think of, Denver, Dallas,
you name it. Uh, it just it depends on what
teams want. I don't see Ayuk leaving anytime soon. I
(02:34):
think the forty nine ers are are kind of stick
with their their notion of you know, you're not going
to show up you're not gonna be around well, okay,
we're not going to let you out of your contract.
I mean that situations obviously turned pretty ugly from their standpoint.
I just don't see it happening well.
Speaker 6 (02:49):
Cody, you know, Ben and I don't like a lot
of these lists, even though I know that they're put
out there for this time of the year. But I
will say one that a lot of you pay at
ten is the NFL.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Top one hundred players.
Speaker 6 (03:03):
There were Broncos own Cortland sudden comes in at sixty eight.
Do you feel as though that is a proper spot
for him or should he be a little higher.
Speaker 5 (03:15):
I feel like that's a good spot for him. I
believe this is his first time in his career ever
making the NFL UP one Hunters, so obviously his peers
around him have a lot of respect for him. Other
wide receivers, I'm sure there are other cornerbacks that will
also go through and tell you what pay experience going
against Courtland. I mean, when you look at his numbers
on third and fourth down, he was I believe he
let all receivers in terms of the yards on those
(03:36):
two downs combined. This past season, also on top of that,
I think he had four total catches three or four
total catches on fourth down ninety nine yards, one touchdown.
I mean, he's just been mister reliable in those money downs.
You want to see maybe some more consistency. I know
he dealt with some drops this past season, led the
team with eight, so you want to see that become
(03:57):
a little bit more of an area where he doesn't
have those focus or those constant tration drops. And he
even had a couple of drop touchdowns this past season,
so you want to see that area of his game goal.
But I think having Jalen Waddle in the mix around him,
I think Cotland, you and I Nick, actually we talked
about this on a squad show recently. I think Cortland
could be in line for a twenty nineteen like season
(04:17):
that we saw from him, and I called him bro
Flacco back in the day there. I just think that
Jalen Waddle is going to open up so much he
might not see as much bracket coverage its upcoming season.
And if he does, well, guess what. That's why Jalen
Waddele is also there because he will make them pay.
And I think Cortland's just been a realm of consistency.
He has kind of been quarterback proof for O his
entire Broncos career. I think this's gonna be a big
(04:38):
season for him.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
I tend to agree with that, especially early.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
I think the Wattle is going to be the guy
teams pay attention to early and try to take away
roll coverage, over the top or whether they're playing too high, whatever.
But I believe that that's who they're going to try
and take away first. And I believe that there's beneficiaries
there that could.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Be Ingram in Courtland Sun.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
You could see with Davis Weber on the show, could
see some of the the air raid stuff getting corporated
some why sticks why you know, things like that to
get that that why go on and get him an
Ingram going as well? What do you think about Davis
web taking over and what do you think about the
idea that that just him Waddle being there on the
field may open things up for other guys to be
more productive early.
Speaker 5 (05:14):
Yeah, No, I agree. I'm excited to see. I mean,
right now, Davis is an unknown, but I think there's
a lot of excitement. I think he'll bring a little
bit more of a modernized touch to Sean Payn's offense,
or Sean says the Broncos offense now in terms of
how they're calling it. But you know, you mentioned Ingram.
I think Evan's going to benefit a lot from this
as well, not only just because he's former teammates with
(05:34):
Davis Webb. I think Davis is probably looking at what
happened last year on film saying, you know what, Evan
played a career low went overall snaps last season. We've
got to find a way to get them on the
field morning. When we get on the field, that can't
be an indicator that we're just going to pass the football.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Right.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
There's gonna have to be balances where he's on the
field and run situations. But you never's got to get
away from giving away their tendencies based on their personnel here,
and I think maybe that's where Davis can come in
and help. Certainly, I think the rotations are going to
be a lot faster in terms of getting the personnel
in and out in a quickly manner. But more importantly,
I also think too Davis is going to open things
up like have him Jalen there. You mentioned it, Elp.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
It's up Evan.
Speaker 5 (06:08):
I also think it's gonna remove a couple of defenders
out of the box that you know they last year
they tried to stack the box against Denver in the
run game.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
I mean, JK.
Speaker 5 (06:16):
Dobbins saw so many different seven.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
Eight nine man boxes last season.
Speaker 5 (06:20):
He's still produced, but now you take one or two
of those defenders out of the way, and maybe Davis's
touch is going to be a little bit more motion.
I know in OTA's in Bani camp, we saw, you know,
a little bit of motion with Jalen, with Marvin, with Troy.
Ei're gonna bring a lot more motion to the forefront
than what we've seen the last couple of years since
Sean has been the play caller. And I don't know
how Sean feels about that, but I think it's necessary
(06:40):
at times. So I'm very curious see how it all
opens things up here. And also for Davis, will Sean
be patient enough to let him make mistakes, struggle, you know,
even gets stuck from time to time. He's gonna need
that in order to figure out how to get out
of those situations. But Shawn is obviously the fall back
guy that can help Davis. I think in this situation.
You know, if he does get stumped, Sean's going to
(07:01):
see certain things. But let Davis be Davis and let
him put his touch on this offense.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
Well, Cody.
Speaker 6 (07:07):
There are several players on this Broncos roster, more importantly.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
On the defensi side of the ball, who I think.
Speaker 6 (07:12):
Are highly disrespected because they don't get the narratives of
people talking about them locally and nationally. And two of
those guys won Zach Allen and the other guy Ja
Kwan McMillan. And I think of the two because Zach
Allen was honored by making the top one hundred in
the NFL. But do you feel just like I do
that Ja Kwa McMillan, hell of a player, j mc
(07:33):
and Cheese I like the call him, but that he
is one of the guys in the defense side of
the ball that's highly underrated, a.
Speaker 5 (07:41):
Huge I mean, he's the most clutch player outside of
Nick Benito on Denver's defense. I mean, you need a
big play from him, He's going to bring it to you,
whether it's a pass breakup, whether it's an interception. He
obviously tied with the team lead last year in I
iNTS with Andre Tillman, you need more interceptions collectively as
a unit going into twenty twenty six. But he also
I believe he had what four sacks as well from
the nickel position. I think he's one of the best
(08:02):
nickel defenders right now in the NFL. He's not getting
talked about a lot. I think if the Broncos, if
they were to get in this game where they had
to pay one guy or the other. I know a
lot of people are talking about that right now. We'll
see what ultimately happens. But if they truly get in
that situation where if they have to pay Riley or
have to pay Ja.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
Kwon, I think they pay Ja Kwon Jake.
Speaker 5 (08:19):
I think having a really good nickel in today's game,
I think is paramount with how the offenses have evolved,
and I think that Denver's got confidence in guys like
Juday and I think even Chris Abrams drained that if
you can't pay both and you let Riley walk, well,
now you've got two guys that you feel like can
be confident enough to step in and get those snaps
on the outside opposite of the PS two. Plus you
get the flex versatility where Jay can play inside outside.
(08:41):
That's obviously great. Abrams drains more of an outside guy,
but I think that's maybe what the Broncos do to
mitigate some of their Champagne problems at that position. I
think j Quon is very, very valuable to this unit.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
I agree, and I think that of the two, that's
the one you keep. You know, to me, that's what
makes the most sense to me.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
But as you look at this thing on the offensive
side of ball, there's been some bonds of contention about
maybe the Broncos should get into training camp and look
at dealing a receiver or offensive lineman, maybe have Ben
Powers or a Troy Franklin obviously bought Jaylen Waddle in
that's a direct repudiation of the season Troy Franklin had
last year. You know, if you thought he was the guy,
then you would have traded a first and a third
(09:19):
and taken on all.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
That money to do it.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
So, you know, I think there are options here. Do
you foresee the Broncos maybe making any move, especially if
a certain edge player is not available.
Speaker 5 (09:30):
Yeah, I think that's a great question. I think a
lot of it depends on that, but I don't think
that necessarily takes place in training camp. I think maybe
in those final two weeks of the preseason. I think
that's where you start to evaluate things a little bit.
And obviously we've seen Denver in the past. You know,
they've had guys that they've to release, but you know,
Devon Mayley was never a release guy. He was like, Hey,
we're going to find a way to trade this guy.
(09:50):
Years past you had Albert Okuwabunham who was initially going
to be waived, but then are like, hey, you know,
we found a trade candidate. I think that's we could
see if potential around that realm. I'm very curious to
especially if in fact the whole cooper situation. I still
think they have to operate on the assumption that he's
not going to be available, regardless of what happens, even
if it goes to a trial in twenty twenty seven.
(10:11):
I think you have to operate that Jonah Ellis and
Nick Need are going to be your two guys on
the outside primarily, and then you like Hugh Robinson, Dondering Tillman.
Is there an edge rusher out there right now that
you've got to trade four? I can see that if
Dever's going to carry five. And if it's not Drew
Sanders or even Johnny Walker Junior or Deshaun McColough, those
guys have such a tough path right now, I think
(10:31):
you do trade for a fifth guy, you know, in
terms of that position, specifically towards the end of training
camp or even obviously preseason.
Speaker 6 (10:39):
Well, Cody, we're only kind of I guess, days away
from the rookies reporting to Bronco's training camp to finally
kick off what I would consider to be regular seasons.
So I know, as a former player, this time of
the year becomes very difficult for me because I go
right back in a way back machine and think them
(10:59):
up play. But for you, how do you prepare for
what's coming up this?
Speaker 3 (11:04):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (11:05):
I guess in a couple of weeks for the Broncos reporting,
is there something unique, as something special you do as
you're prepared to get this thing started?
Speaker 4 (11:13):
Rah, bring along a lot of long sleeve hoodies in sunscreen.
Speaker 5 (11:16):
You know, me, I burn, I don't tan, Irish blood
and me never takes care of me.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
But I just I try to reset, you know, I think.
Speaker 5 (11:21):
My regiment changes up. You know, I try to prepare
for what the day is going to look like from
a coverage standpoint. But more importantly, I just like to
I like to get steps in, I like to hit
a morning work out. But more importantly, I just love
the smell of fresh cut grass. In terms of training,
cat I have a losing facility, but there's nothing that
beats the sun, the sound of paths pop and the
whistles blown, but also the smell of that freshly cut grass.
(11:43):
That's always something I just think brings me back to
when I played, When I coach, it just kind of
tells you football's here.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
And more importantly, I think we can.
Speaker 5 (11:51):
All look forward to the who won the Day recaps
that all of us media guys have to play in
this game.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
That's gonna be a lot of fun.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Yeah, you don't go full less miles and get you,
you know, get you a handful of grass to start
chewing on it to you.
Speaker 4 (12:05):
No, no, no, no, you know, actually nothing I would do.
Speaker 5 (12:08):
You pick a couple of pieces, you hold it up,
and then you see which way the wind's blowing, how
they fall, so uh man, just nothing beats it. It's
honestly one of the I'm supposed they haven't made a
candle I mean, my wife likes candle. I'm surprised they
haven't made a candle of football field.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
They do, Actually, they have one. You can you can
get that. I will tell you could google that. It's
made with a vetaver and you can you can actually
get that.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
That is a thing, I promise. All right, So there
you go.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
Now you know, yeah, uh, the wind is blowing. The
wind seems to be blowing the Broncos way. They're getting
a lot of uh favorable coverage.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
Going to the season.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
They seem like they could be potential Super Bowl contenders.
The interesting thing for me is how different people look
at the AFC West. I've been adamant for months that
I think the Chargers are.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
The team to beat in the AFC West. The Broncos.
That's gonna be the biggest competition.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
I know people have a spot for the Chiefs, and
obviously with Mahomes they're going to be competitive, but that
that the team's gotten older, that roster's gotten worse, and
that defense has got worse. And I I look at
this and I think the Chargers are the Broncos' biggest
headache in the AFC West.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
What's say you, sir?
Speaker 5 (13:05):
Yeah, well, I agree with you completely, and it's the
one team that you know, for since Bo has been
drafted head to head, he has not won against the
charters against justin Herbert specifically there. So that's something you
want to see. You know, Herbert versus Nick, the former
two Oregon quarterbacks, and obviously these guys played each other
once upon a time when Herbert was at Oregon and
Bo Nicks was at Auburn. I was obviously, you know,
(13:27):
an exciting thing. But it's a nice call back there.
But you want to see them.
Speaker 4 (13:30):
I think the Chargers and Mike McDaniel coming.
Speaker 5 (13:32):
Over there is the offensive coordinator. I think it's going
to play a lot into what Harbaugh wants to do
with running the football, but I think it's going to
set up the play action game a lot more. The
offensive line in LA.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
You got to wonder about that.
Speaker 5 (13:42):
The defensively, I mean two Ley Twoy below two. They
obviously added an edge rusher here in the NFL Draft
in Round one. Khalil Mack is back for yet another year.
You still have Diane Henley and Derwin James. That's a
very good defense that they have right there in Los Angeles.
Speaker 4 (13:55):
So I think they are the team to be.
Speaker 5 (13:57):
You know, I think you have to respect Kansas City,
but I don't think anybody shares them anymore, right, which
is not a shot at Casey. You know, Mahomes is
always going to be this guy that commands attention and respect,
but you fear the Chiefs as a whole anymore. That
time I think has passed and now is the Broncos,
and I think the Chargers opportunity to go on to
run in the division, and hopefully the Broncos can keep
maintaining that and taking care of business.
Speaker 3 (14:19):
Cody, what does number eighteen mean to you?
Speaker 6 (14:22):
And what I mean by that is the Jeremy Fowler
ranking of one Bow Nicks.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
I'll let you take the floor.
Speaker 5 (14:28):
Well, you know that's very interesting, said it because eighteen
was my number when I played, So I was like, hey,
I love the number eighteam, But when it comes to
the quarterback rankings, I don't like it. I think Bow
deserves to be high, especially considering they got guys like
Drake may Taylor Williams up top. I think Bow's numbers
his first two seasons have obviously been better from a
touchdown and overall yards efficiency standpoint here I even think
(14:49):
the wins to twenty four wins in their first two seasons.
A lot of people want to talk about the defense.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
The defense has been such.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
A strong suit of Denver. I mean that helps. That
helps a young quarterback no matter what.
Speaker 4 (14:57):
But one thing that Bow has not had in his.
Speaker 5 (15:00):
First two seasons is a consistent run game to help
him out, to take the pressure off of him.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
I think that maybe changes a little bit this year.
Speaker 5 (15:07):
I would say arguably when you look at Chicago, Chicago
and Caleb Williams, they've had a better situation than bo has,
especially with the run game that they had last year.
Of the defense, even the weapons that Caleb Williams had
last season, and bow Nick still outperformed him in some areas. Obviously,
I think Caleb had eleven more passing yards than him,
I think two more touchdown passes. But I'm excited to
(15:28):
see what bow can continue to do at the end
of the day. You know, rankings, there are a lot
of people that want to hold onto their pre draft
narratives about Bow. There's a lot of areas that Bow
still needs to improve on in terms of consistency with
his footwork in the pocket. You know, staging in the
pocket a little bit more, staying patient there and obviously
using his legs when it matters. That's one thing that
he's done well. But being a little bit more patient
(15:48):
and obviously the accuracy. But also Denver's had wide receiver
drops forty three last year. So there's just more around
Bow I think where other guys have to step up
to help Bow out versus Bow having to do anything extra.
But there are obviously evident areas of his game. He's
gotta be better. I think that the conversation around bow
Nix is such a polarizing topic on the cesspool that
we know is Twitter. Unfortunately you can't talk logic on
(16:09):
that app anymore. But I just think that Bo's in
a good position. He's proved a lot of people wrong.
In Hey, another year he gets a chance to do
just that.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
Yeah, and I think that he will.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
Cody, we appreciate the time has always got to run,
but appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
Look forward to seeing you here out there camp here
in a couple of weeks.
Speaker 5 (16:23):
Absolutely look forward to it. Appreciate you guys.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
All right, take care, Cody rock my life sports. We
got a break. We'll be back. Lots of good comment, Sarah,
the text like it's simous here in a minute. I
appreciate Cody Roarck joining us.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
He is a part of that.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
You've got to Brocos Country Night dot Com, slash podcast
or brokas podcast, Apple iTunes, Spotify.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
The free iHeartRadio app did not nail it. What happened
did not nail it. What happened he didn't nail it.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
I said, free iHeartRadio a free and redesign stutt But
that's been going on for like a.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
Year, so it's no longer redesigned. That is the design.
So I trimmed down the statement nailed it. Does that
nail it.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
Where you could get to take you for granted podcast
archives as well, maybe sweat the guy into doing, uh,
you know, a podcast about.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
The I actually have been debating it again.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
The things going on in his life and maybe maybe
maybe almost like an audio diary of what that's like.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
Maybe we'll see there to dream.
Speaker 6 (17:22):
Well, I'll tell you what the conversation we had on
last night show when the mics were off.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
We can't do that podcast new podcast work news that's
not taking it for granted material.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
Yeah, what kind of material would you say? That's a
podcasts health conversation. That's what we'll talk at content.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Yes, that was We'll call that Immen's health conversation and
leave it at that because there are people.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
Listening and I that conversation gosh educational.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
Look just because I was handing out some tips, I
can't even please change the subjects.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
We're gonna get out in here in a minute.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
Broncos didn't add a whole lot to sufseason, obviously added
Jayalen Waddell's that's the big addition basically kept the band
together lost John Franklin Myers, who's needs to take the
biggest leap forward in order to push the Broncos from
the AFC Championship Game into the Super Bowl.
Speaker 6 (18:24):
I would say that that would be an overall overall
scheme standpoint.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
I mean, am I allowed.
Speaker 6 (18:29):
To look at that and not just break it down
to one so.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
Individual this is our show.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
We could do whatever we want to get.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
Well, I just did that.
Speaker 6 (18:36):
I mean, you need things to change more from a
schematic standpoint, and that is kind of the idea and
why I guess Davis Webb was handed the keys to
the car and now he would be the fisherw driver
of whatever this office looks like in twenty twenty six.
Because here's what we know, and Cody, our last guest,
(18:57):
you know, mention it we need offense that's a little
sped up, right, And once again I get a whole
idea because as a former defender, I know the idea
is having an interchangeable offense where you can speed things
up when you need to right, but also have an
ability to throw things down, settle things down. And this
(19:20):
offense needs to be a little more dynamic. And the
fact that we live in Denverer, Colorado, we are at
fifty to eighty and it is posted outside of the
defensive locker room, so they see it. Every time an
opponent goes into the locker room, it comes out. It's
time to use that strength to the Broncos offense to
(19:42):
really help them out. And if you do that, then
you're not only making this offense in my mind, more efficient,
because you're forcing Bonnicks, You're forcing all the players to
make quick snap judgments right now, see it, throw it,
get in.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
And out of your break.
Speaker 6 (19:58):
But also force is the person calling plays to be
really quit with their cause. And we've seen it before.
We've seen bo on the field, give me the call.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
Yeah, they call in I'm trying to Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
And I think that's one of the things I think
and I hope this season the play calling will be smoother,
get in there much more quickly. Uh, And that will
allow him more time at the line, because I will
tell you, being at the line as a quarterback, the
more time you have, the more the defense is gonna
tip you off to something. They're gonna somebody's gonna line
their hips before they move them back. Somebody's gonna sit,
they're gonna cheat a little bit one foot forth. They're
(20:32):
going to tip you off. The longer you're there, the
more you can survey, the more somebody is going to
drop their poker face for a fraction of a second
and give you that. And I if you don't believe me,
then believe Peyton Manning because he said the same thing.
Speaker 6 (20:44):
Well. The reason why I can say that everything that
you said is so true because there's a clot behind
the office and the defense.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
And in my years playing Peyton Manning, we were so.
Speaker 6 (20:58):
Enthralled in everything that he was doing for Majester standpoint,
we were not paying attention to the clod that was
right behind him, so in his way, he was able
to speed us up.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
And usually when you do.
Speaker 6 (21:10):
That, there is someone you're gonna find on the field
on the second level, the third level of the defense
that was going to give the coverage away.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
And I know that sounds crazy.
Speaker 6 (21:19):
He's like, well, the defenders can only run, but so
many coverages and at this point of his career he
would have seen everything. But sometunds it's like, hey, hold
your water, sit in there. Force him to make somewhat
of a decision on the run. But it was always
one guy just a little antsy, and he would give
it away. And Peyton knew exactly where to go with
(21:39):
the ball. So if you were to do that same
thing with Bo, give him some time to get to
the line of scrimmage process it. He already knows where
his progressions are, but if he wanted to check right.
And also there's another part that I hope give him
the authority freedom and the freedom to be able to
do that at scrimmage.
Speaker 1 (21:59):
I despise offenses that do not allow the quarterback to
change things up at the line.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
I despise that. And there are I get.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
It if it's a first year player, but you're talking
about a third year player at this point who's been
to the you know, who got his team the AFC
Championship game. It's time to let him dictate at the
line of scrimmage based on what he sees. And I
think that that's one of those things that will help
speed this thing up a little bit as well. I think,
you know, if he's got that freedom and that authority
(22:27):
to make those calls at the line, I think that's
going to make that off of this offense that much
more dangerous than going in there with a static set
of calls. And this is what we're doing, and you know,
and that kind of thing.
Speaker 6 (22:37):
Well, the reason too, because some quote, you want quarterbacks
to be able to play in structure.
Speaker 3 (22:43):
That's what everyone likes to have when.
Speaker 6 (22:45):
They evaluate quarterbacks coming out of college, even when guys
get to the pros.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
But you still want to have.
Speaker 6 (22:50):
A guy who can play outside of structure just a
little and this is where you would have the relationship.
Just for example, vot Nick's working with Jalen Wattle, and
it may be something that they're working on in practice,
just fooling around, and he said, you know what, man,
let's run that in the game.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
And there was a game last season, I.
Speaker 6 (23:11):
Think it was Pittsburgh Steelers, they might have been playing
against the Colts, and Aaron Rodgers told the running back
it wasn't even what he.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
Was supposed to do.
Speaker 6 (23:21):
He said, I want you to motion out to the
right side and run a goat the running backs looking
at him like I'm sorry, what and he runs the
go route And guess where Aaron Rodgers throws the ball
to the go route right because it wasn't anticipated and
seeing Baul have the ability to do that based on
certain things that he's done in practice, working on chemistry
(23:43):
with some of the wide receivers, not just jaylen Watta,
maybe even a tight end Evan Ingram right, which Evan Ingram,
you know, he needs to have a great year because
last year wasn't what we anticipated. So allowing bow to
see things at the line of scrimmage. And even though
he has a play that star already called checking to
something else because when when Aaron Rodgers was with Green Bay,
(24:07):
he used to do the same thing with Devonte Adams. Right,
he would look at the defense, it would be a
run play, but then all of a sudden he checks
to a pass and maybe it's a quick slant or
maybe it's a double. Getting both to that particular level.
Not only would show Vo's growth, it would show both
Champagne Davis Webb's confidence in bow knicks, but it also
(24:29):
en lists like this Jeremy follower list. It would elevate
Bo higher on the list because now he is now
being pressed to do more right and then they're giving
him more to do.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
Yeah, and I think that's you know, I think Bo
could handle it.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
You know, I think Davis Webb getting things in quicker
and being more you know, being more in tune. Because
Davis Webb has been a quarterback more recently than Sean Bage.
Jean Dayton was a replacement player quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 5 (24:55):
You know that.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
And and so it's been a while since he's played
the position. He's kind of gotten into that coaching side.
Davis Webb is a coach, but he's still got that
player's mentality.
Speaker 6 (25:04):
And that's the one thing that Jayalen Wadu said, and
I paid attention to her. I was standing right there
in front of the podium when he said. He talked about,
you know the fact that Davis Webb not being too
far removed from the game where he is still he
still has that same energy like he's still a player, right,
And sometimes.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
You don't really see that. And some of the coaches also,
even with some of the younger.
Speaker 6 (25:27):
Coaches who are now head coaches, they don't have that
same vibe because they didn't play themselves.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
But this is where Davis Webb.
Speaker 6 (25:36):
Has the propensity to take this offense and Bow's game
to the next level because he's been there before.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
Now, he hasn't been a starter, but he's been a backup.
Speaker 6 (25:46):
And usually it's that backup guy who knows the offense
in and out because he has no choice.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
Right And so that's I think that's gonna be the
biggest way. You want to talk about the phases, the
three phases of the Broncos offense.
Speaker 6 (26:00):
Yeah, when you think about the three phases, you always
think about how a team plans on attacking opposing defense.
And I always say, looking at it this way, you
want to be able to attack both vertically and horizontally.
That which in your passing game, in your run game.
So when I started to look at the Broncos coming
into this season, I started looking at, you know, three
(26:21):
players not to say that you can't plug you know,
Pat Bryant or Troy Franklin into this model. But I
started thinking about it in the layers because that's what
I would like to see this Broncos. The offense run
more layer type browns. So you have Carla Sudden, Marvin Mams,
and Jaylen Waddell. So the way that I look at
(26:42):
I say, well, when you look at your length or
vertical as far as going down the field, that guy
would be Jaylen waddle on the go routes because that's
what he's anticipated to do in this Broncos offense given
more explosive plays. Now, when we started to look for
width right from sideline to as Marvin Mims he has speed.
He's showing it that he can do that with the
(27:04):
ball in his hands on special teams. Now we're talking
about shallow cross the crossing routes.
Speaker 3 (27:09):
Right the deep over routes, that's where he comes in.
Speaker 6 (27:11):
Now when we're talking about death, now, this is where
Courtland Sutton can eat because this is where the team
looks to put the ball in court, call the Suddon's hand,
especially last season on third down, those in breaking routes,
those deg routes So if the Broncos were able to
use each one of those players, like I said, it's
a plan that you can throw Pat.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
Brian or Troy Franklin.
Speaker 6 (27:32):
This now adds the pun intended multiple layers to their offense.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
And then the fourth part of it, if you want to,
it's the running backs. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
I think it's interesting because it is the first year
that you have every archetype from the Sean Payton offense covered.
Sean Payton likes to have that slant god at the EX.
We got that Courtland Suddon. He likes to have that
burner at the Z. We got Jaylen Waddell. I mean
you go back and you look, he's had Brandon Cooks
to every Henderson ted Gin.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
You know guys back there who could take the top off.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
And now you can put Mims or Franklin or Little
Jordan or whomever in that slot position and work those
third downs. You've got an athletic tight end in Ingram
that can play that off the line. Why you've got
in line, You've got an inline guy and troutman that
knows the offense.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
You've got multiple running backs.
Speaker 1 (28:17):
You've got you've got a guy and who can move
the pile in Dobbins, you've got a receiver in R. J.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
Harvey.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
You've got kind of a hybrid, a little bit, you know,
in Coleman. You've got a little bit of every And
that's what Sean Payton likes. He loves to have all
those different pieces that he can move around. Well, you
got them all now. So it will create opportunities for
them to be able to layer the concepts and do
different things.
Speaker 6 (28:38):
So is it safe to say that this year with
the offense knowing as though Sean Payton said it himself
his words now, even though.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
I've said him before that the strength of this team
is the defense.
Speaker 6 (28:51):
Is this in a year from an offensive standpoint, based
on what you just said about the Broncos offensively having
whatever pieces that they need and running it back with
a lot of the guys on offense in side of
the ball, that no excuses.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
Oh, absolutely, you cannot be a liability this year.
Speaker 1 (29:07):
The offense cannot be a liability this year because this
is an indictment on Sean Payton. This is a year
where you're in year three of bow Knicks. You got
your hand pick guy, You've got your hand picked players,
your you know, the system and the scheme are in place.
They've been installed for years. All these players now, it's
not like you've got a bunch of new players. You
got Jaalen Waddle. All these players know it all right.
(29:29):
The defense has carried this team for three seasons, well
more than that, but you got that heavy But Saint
Sean Payton's been here. The defense has carried the team. Yes,
it is time for the offense to start picking up
this leg. You cannot be a fourteen and seventeen point
a game offense. This offense needs to be a twenty
one to twenty four point a game a lot more
of those twenty four's point a game offense. You don't
(29:50):
need bo Knicks trying to bring you back from down
seventeen to fourteen in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 6 (29:55):
I think this is one of the reasons why, whether
you like the list or not, why some of these
executives that Jeremy Fowler spoke to probably looked at bo
Nix in this particular way. Even though you can say, well,
he's at the fourth quarter comeback, but it's like you
shouldn't be in that situation all the time. You need
to show a little more fluidity in the offense and
a little more consistency. So yes, this is bonafide hashtag
(30:19):
no excuses training camp season twenty twenty six for sure.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
Yeah, one hundred percent. A little bit of news I'm
going to share with you, guys. I got a text
message from somebody earlier today and they just he just
confirmed it.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
Sidney's winning.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
No, no, no, no, he said, he just confirmed.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
John Gruden is going to be doing play by play
on a preseason game on TV this year.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
How do we feel about that?
Speaker 3 (30:49):
I like it?
Speaker 6 (30:50):
Listen, man, I have nothing against John Grewd and I
love his his his breakdowns.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
I mean, obviously he's a football guy.
Speaker 6 (30:59):
You love football, and is what what what do you
have before the fired Football Coaches Association?
Speaker 2 (31:05):
Yeah, the FC football coach.
Speaker 6 (31:06):
So I've never got a chance to but that was
a guy that would be a guy I would love
to sit down and just talk ball with.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
Right.
Speaker 6 (31:15):
So, but I'm glad that he is getting back involved
in some capacity. Right And you know, obviously we know
about what happened, and the league was investigating the Commanders
and somehow we got John Gruden.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
Yes, we've had Jay on the show a few times.
I'm still working on getting John on the show. There's
some legal wrangling as far as that goes, but we're
still working on that.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
You think, however, coach in the league again, that was quick.
I think he now could he coach collegeball?
Speaker 3 (31:49):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (31:50):
Maybe?
Speaker 1 (31:50):
Yes, I believe I believe that's if if he gets
back in. I believe it'll be Don't you think.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
That there's so much time has already passed already?
Speaker 2 (32:00):
What I'll tell you, I know a little something.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
There was an SEC school that was closer to hiring him,
I think than.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
People realize now.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
They went ultimately in a different direction because some things
and him wanted to get some stuff together and do
some other things. And I take a shot at the school, sure, lsu,
oh there was You get the right, it's SEC West.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
There was an SEC school that was a lot closer
to hiring him.
Speaker 1 (32:24):
I think that people think, and I would suggest if
their coach doesn't work out in like two years, that
it would be very.
Speaker 2 (32:30):
Possible that they would pivot back to that.
Speaker 6 (32:32):
You know, I think it's only fair that you know,
a college team gives John Gruden an opportunity to coach.
I mean, because he's a he's a wealth of knowledge, obviously,
like you know, getting back on the NFL level.
Speaker 3 (32:44):
Yeah, I don't see that happen.
Speaker 6 (32:46):
But in college football, a lot of his knowledge and
his services would be duly needed.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
Little pig there you go. Somebody knew it. Somebody knew it.
Speaker 6 (32:55):
I was I was thinking that only based on their
private history, the controversy coaches, but I wasn't quite sure.
Speaker 2 (33:03):
But I think his energy would be great for college football.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
And now with the NIL and all that kind of
stuff in the way things are done, it's yeah, I
think he would be a much better fit for them.
He has active civil litigation against the NFL, and he's
certainly not coaching as long as that active civil litigation is.
How the preseason games because it's it's a contract through
the broadcast partner.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
It has nothing to do. It's like, you know, so
he's like, we do. It's a contract with a broadcast partners.
Speaker 6 (33:25):
Not interesting what Grant brings up because the NFL has
a lot of these broadcast partners for say, right and
if you have some, they make.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
The decision issues. They make the decisions on who they
hire the lead.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
The league does not dictate who you who you do,
who you hire as as far as the commentator skill.
Speaker 5 (33:41):
Might come up in those next contract negotiations, so when
they're trying to get the TV rights to whatever games, Well.
Speaker 1 (33:49):
From what I understand, he's going to get a shot
at a preseason game this year to do that. Now,
he's done radio before he does. He's done preseason radio
on Bucks games with Ronde Barber, but this will be
his first TV play by play gigs.
Speaker 6 (33:58):
So I don't know why I thought for some reason
when he was on the Full Letter Network he actually
called the game or two.
Speaker 3 (34:04):
Am I wrong in that?
Speaker 2 (34:06):
Yeah? I don't remember that at all. I think he
did a color.
Speaker 1 (34:08):
I think he might have might extend in the booth
and did some color or something, but he did never
call the call the game that I'm playing weight.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
Rocos Country netback for this
