Nick Ferguson Short show post Rockies edition and Nick, it
was the first day I think of what I think
of is real camp. It wasn't really an acclamation period.
Fans were out there.

Now.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Of course it was short, so it wasn't full pads
and you know and all that kind of stuff. But
what I call the first real day of practice, which
wasn't just stretching in routes on air and all that
kind of stuff. We saw some seven on so, we
saw some team, We saw some move the ball, we
saw some some hurry up stuff. It was, you know, overall,
I think a pretty good day for both sides the ball.
I the one thing I will say is that the
offense looks like Jayalen Waddell and properly utilizing Evan Ingram

(00:36):
and Marvin Mims looked like the missing pieces because the
offense was was kind of.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Having a little bit of a day. Well the ideas
of missing pieces. Two of those guys were a part
of the team last season, and Evan Ingram and Marvin
Mems Yep, now they were not utilized as much.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
As they can't see the facial expression.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
I'm making right now your face, but it is a
face of eye validated, and I agree with you. And
maybe this is the early introduction. And granted I'm saying
early because I still look at this as a ramp
up period. Davis Web is still trying to find even footing,
So it's going to be a case of filling out

(01:18):
from a play calling standpoint, scheme standpoint, but also the
players themselves. But yeah, maybe this is what we saw
today's small sample size of what the offense could look
like with Davis Web now scheming the calls.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
So yeah, we saw Ingram get a big play on
that deep crosser. Yep, we saw Marvin Midhams get a
couple of big plays out there. It looks like, I mean,
we'll see if this continues on into the actual season,
but right now, what they're practicing looks pretty explosive.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
It does look explosive, and that's the operative word because
the Broadcos haven't had a lot of explosive plays consistently
right now. Have they had a couple explosive plays here
and there, absolutely, but it hasn't been consistent where you
will look at this team and say, well, they are
a bona fide threat every time they're on the field,

(02:15):
because we've seen this offense struggle and find themselves in
a lot of thirty long situations. And the Marvin Maham's conversation,
that's going to be one of the conversations that permeate
throughout training camp, especially on the sideline amongst media members,
because what I noticed today with Marvin, Marvin has now

(02:37):
stepped into a role where he has been or he's
showing more expression right because he knows what this means
for him potentially. And he had a couple of good
catches today, like you said, and you can see Marvin
doing something I hadn't seen him do in the practice,
not the game. In practice, he pointed to the sky.

(02:58):
He pointed to the sky to thank the almighty, you know,
Lord for giving him another date, but also showing this
team what he's capable of doing.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
I think there was an interesting part on top of that.
The entire team came up and like was gassing him up.
After he was making play. The entire team rushed up
to like, you know, anytime Marvin Mims may play, They
were loving him up. And I think you and I
I don't know if the fans know, but you and
I obviously know Marvin's a little irritated. I think that's
that's putting it mildly. Yeah, I'm trying to be trying

(03:30):
to tap dance here. He's a little irked that, you know,
no contract extension, all that kind of stuff that we
go out they pay all this freight for Jaylen Waddle.
You know, we've talked about it on the show numerous times.
You know, if you're mar Mims, You're get in that car,
you're asking you what else I got to do?

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Man? Every time I go out there, I just make
plays like what else I got to do?

Speaker 3 (03:50):
Yeah, you can see it, not the frustration at practice today,
but the jubilation. And I'm glad you missing the fact
that his teammates are coming up to him. They understand
what this means. And that's not to say that there
is kind of this fracture locker room. No, the players

(04:11):
know what Marvin has done and they're doing their part
to kind of help propel him forward, to really plant
that flag and say, listen, look at what Marvin's doing,
look at how much he means to this team. And
I love the guys on the offense for being able
to do that, and I know it's the first day.
Everyone's going to be real excited or not, not the

(04:32):
first day of practice, but the first day of real practice,
as we call it. And it was great to see
everyone running up to him because here's what was happening
in practice. Every time I'm an offensive player called a pass,
there was a round of applause. Every time Jalen Wattle,
it was really loud. And if you're Marvin Mahams and

(04:54):
you've heard all the conversation and talk, you got to
figure that impacted him. And he was like, look, I'm
gonna go out here some plays and he did just that.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
Yeah, And I think there was another phenomenon o. SA.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
You were talking to Nate Jackson for a while, I
was talking to a for a while, and that was
one of the things I noticed. I was like, Man,
this crowd really loves it when the offense and only
the offense, makes plays.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
Well, let's be totally honest. The NFL has definitely transitioned
into a much larger offensive driven league. Everything is about
the offense. Everything is about the quarterback position because that's
the oil that greases the engine and the defense. Somehow
you know what, they played a role of this redhead

(05:38):
step stepchild, if you will, and watching the offense make
plays you applaud that you definitely do. But there were
no applauses for bad at balls. There was one pass
that I thought Cortland was going to haul in. He
was hugging the sideline. It was broke up and I

(05:58):
think it was broken up by Raleigh Mass. There there
were no thunders applause from the hordes of fans that
had to come from a defensive side of the ball,
right right, So we're going we're probably we're going to
see a lot this training camp where it's going to
be lopsided, where the fans support is going to be
leaning heavily towards the office side of the ball.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
One thing I will say is that the offense to
the first couple of days has looked like a unit
that is finally capable of carrying its own freight, which
it has not done the last couple of years. The
defense has had to bail them out time and time again.
Now you know, you could point to the fourth quarter
comebacks and say when it mattered, they got it done,
fair point. But what I will say is that the
defense put them in position to be able to make

(06:40):
those there.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
Yeah, those those kinds of comebacks. So but I will
say the offensive.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
I mean, man, I'm telling you, I don't know if
it's web but I don't know if they're just practicing
this stuff. I don't know if it's it's something they're
gonna put in the games. But what they're doing right
now looks explosive. It looks capable of, you know, beating,
beating other teams, and so you know, anytime you get
an anger them and getting him where he should be
on the thing, like I said on the Deep Crossers,
anytime you're getting Mims on those explosive plays like that,

(07:08):
we're not running sideline flies for Troy Franklin a hundred times,
you know that that kind of stuff. It looks better.
The eye test has passed. Now we'll see him put
the pads on and execute all that kind of stuff.
We'll have to see it in games and you know,
those kinds of things. But right now it looks pretty smooth.
Our early standouts. I know I've mentioned Ingram a few times.
Mims has looked real sharp out there. Wattle looks like

everything that was advertised on the defensive side. The first
half of today, Roylean Mouss was having himself kind of
a day. Now, he gave up an explosive to Mims late,
but he was having himself a little bit of a day.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
Okay, Well, let's be fair. You're not going to stop everything, right,
And we were just talking about how Mims was kind
of lighting it up. It was really electric, exciting, and
the team ran over to him. So, I mean, on occasion,
that is going to happen to you, and I would
rather happen in a game than practice. So it's gonna

(08:05):
teach Riley Moss how to be better prepared to defend
up downfield routes. But here's a great thing. I'm glad
we didn't see.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Yeah, right, we didn't.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
See Raleigh Moss reaching grabbing for claw where he's normally
called for a passing affairs to give the opposition exposed.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Yeah, and that's I think that's a good sign there
as well. I'm not like just sitting here lamb basing
you know, a lamb basing Riley for giving up a play.
You're gonna give some plays out. That stuff happens. But
I will say like for those like because I tweeted
about midway through practice he was kind of having himself
a day, and then twenty minutes later he gave up
a single play and then people are all in my
mentions like.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
What are you talking about?

Speaker 1 (08:45):
You just gave up, and I'm like, it happened, you
know anyway, whatever.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
One of the guys, I think that's been a little
bit of star through three days of camp is Udfa
Brent Austin, Okay, playing corner He played cornerball at cal
He's ufa here and and he's just getting his hands
active hands in there, making PBUs just get his name
on the board every day. But he's had a player
two every day where he's done that and kind of
put his name on the board. It kind of makes

(09:10):
you raise an eyebrow a little bit, like, Okay, all right,
I see you, young man, I see you. That's what
you wanted to And as a guy who had to,
you know, come in, Udfa put his name on the board.
Nick ferguson how exciting is it to see a udfad
be like that, come out there and every day just
making another play, keeping his name in the conversation.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
It's great because that's what it comes down to ben.
It is every time you're on the field, you have
to make a play. And we know as camp goes on,
the reps are going to start to diminish as the
team starts to get ready for the regular season. But
this is the time that you show up because after
every single practice, the coaches get together and they go

(09:48):
over that day's practice. They review it, so they want
to know who stood out. They also want to know
who didn't stand out. And the guy that constantly make plays,
you make it difficult for them to release you. Now
it's not a guarantee that they're going to keep you,
but you want to continue to make plays. So if
you want of those last cuts, a guy they're trying

(10:09):
to figure out, Okay, you know we need another dB.
Can we develop him and keep him on the practice
squad because we don't We don't want to to play
that well in game because other teams to see you, yeah,
and they try to pick you off off of the roster.
But that's one of the things. It's about being solid
on your assignment and showing as though you can heavy

(10:31):
handle the pressure and the weight that they put you in,
especially if you're now going against the first team offense.
That's when you can really jump out and really show
who you are as a player.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
And he hasn't got too many of those reps yet,
but you know, he went from the you know, the
third and second team and he was still making those plays.
So she just wanted to keep an eye on baby.
Maybe Brent Austin, somebody that we keep an eye on
that's its name, has been a bit unherlded around here.
Just want to when I happened to notice a couple
of you know, news and notes today. Obviously we at
the corner that hurt his ankle. You get let go

(11:03):
with the injury. But Sam Webb is who they've brought
in as a veteran. The restructure been powers deal today,
so he's taken a haircut in terms of overall pay.
There's some incentives to earn it back, but he's getting
more guaranteed than what he had. So now he's got
five million guaranteed, six million dollar number this year with
two million I think in incentives that he could earn back.

(11:23):
They Broncos have freed up a little over thirty million
in cap space and people are starting to ask questions about, okay,
is there another move incoming. I don't know that there's
a major move incoming per se, but they have the
flexibility now for that. Oh, by the way, the larger
move that they need to figure out is this Bonix
contract that's looming, you know, that's looming down the pipeline.
And so this gives you some additional flexibility with some

(11:47):
of these other contracts and extensions and chances to move
money forward and all that kind of stuff. I don't
know that it's necessarily a situation where you look at
this thing saying they're going to make a big outside move.
I don't know where they would make an outside move
at this point. Yes you do, Uh what Taysom Hill.
The thirty million isn't for Tasom Hill?

Speaker 3 (12:07):
No, no, no. See See that's that's the misconception. Not a
thirty million dollar deal. You do it one year or
a two year deal where you can opt out in
the second year.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
Yeah, and an eight or nine million I'm okay with that,
but I'm not at thirty million, of course, not thirty
But on the flip side of that, it does give
you the opportunity to be able to work some other
contracts forward, work the money forward into this year, and
then it allows you to free up it frees up
the cap space in other years. This Bow deal that's
coming down the pipe, it's going to be sixty million
dollars a year plus for multiple years.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
That's that's the going rate for quarterbacks.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
Now, you know, Trevor Lawrence, those guys are all at
fifty five, you've had the sixty million.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Dollar number has already been cracked.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
So I think the Walton Penner group, I think they
would like to get that Bonux contract done early so
that it's it becomes affordable by year two. Like you know,
two years from now, we're talking about what an affordable
content track Bonix is relative to the rest of the
paid quarterback market, rather than kicking the can down the
road on that and then you're paying an eighty million
in three years.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
Well, you know, that's the biggest thing to try to
figure out when to do these particular deals. And it's
proven that it's better to do those deals sooner than later.
Because think about the passer Tandell right, and at first
at the time it was like, oh man, they're paying
him a lot of money, and then you saw Derek
Stingley come along, right and then you saw other corners

(13:30):
come along and look at what Denzel Ward was able
to receive from the Cleveland Browns. So it's best to
get out ahead of these situations. And this is probably
something that the Broncos organization they've been discussing. So they
want to they once again, Bo is coming off of injury. Right,
they love him, but how much do you love him?

(13:52):
We want to see we're going to make a long
time investment. We know what you've done from year one
to year two. You have this foot injury, see how
the season is going, especially at the beginning of the season,
knowing that you're going to play a lot of tough
NFC West teams. You do that. Now you start having
that conversation and who was to say that, by I

(14:13):
don't know, bye week, that could be a deal for
Bo Nicks. Why not.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
It's going to be interesting because, as we've noted several times,
they really run the gauntlet to the first you know,
six eight weeks of the season, right, and so that's
gonna be if Bo comes out of that first six
eight weeks smelling like roses that you got You got
to get that deal in front of him quick because
that price just keeps ticking upwards, you know. And so
that that's I think one of those these, plus you know,
any other deals that get done in between now and

(14:41):
then also raise the price, you know what I mean,
Like it's that's that's one of those things. Like we
go back to the Russell Wilson deal and why that
was done and when that was done, and that was
done because you had to pay him, and and so
you know, the incoming ownership was like, well, let's do
this now rather than wait for at the time Lamar,
Josh Allen and Justin Herbert Toll get paid and jack

(15:03):
up the price of quarterbacks, uh to to the point
where we're paying you know, russ an absolutely filthy amount
of money which they paid him a lot.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
But it could have been could have been worse, much more.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
And so yeah, and so I think that's the thing
with the with the bo situation here is like you
want to get the Bonux deal done as soon as possible,
because the minute you get it done, then the market's
reset and everybody following behind is going to reset the
market and in a year your deal is actually fairly affordable.

Speaker 3 (15:26):
Well, this is the situation that the Broncos are going
to have to deal with because it's not just bo.
I mean, you have Marvin right, you have Ja Kwan,
Riley have Riley right, and you have some other guys
like you know, being powers. You know took that haircut,
like you said, good for him. I mean, he's got
some some early money that he didn't think he would have.

(15:50):
But the Broncos is gonna make some tough decisions from
a roster standpoint. I don't I don't, I don't end it.
But here's what we know they're gonna do. First, they
want to make sure that the solidify the quarterback position
and then pretty much go go from there. But if
things continue to trend in the right way and they
get out of this training camp healthy and he stayed

(16:11):
competitive in those first six to eight games, then the
Broncos would be able to say, you know, what you
guys thought last year was a flute, We're here to
tell you it's not. And no, by the way, our
offense has just improved.

Dobbins today, I don't know if he caught his pressure.
He made a pinky promise that he will be available
for all seventeen games and he's trying to get the
rushing title. He made a pinky pro double pinky promise.

He pinky double pinky promise. Excuse me, double pinky promised
that he was going to be available for all seventeen
games and that he was after the rushing title.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
Well, listen, I admire him from one of the say
ownership and say, well, I want to go after the
rushing title. I don't know about the pinky promise saying
that you're going to be ready and available for all
seventeen games. That's a tall task because we know injuries

(17:49):
happened from a toe to an ankle, to soft tissue
to a shoulder. So listen. I wish him and I
pray that he's able to hit that mark. But at
the same time, the Russian title, I'm not really sure.
And the reason I'm not sure is because my lack
of confidence that the team is going to stick to

the run game. They haven't really done that in years past.
Now I'm open to the idea of changing that and
changing my mind. But also I throw this in too.
I think Jonah Coleman is gonna have something to say
about that, and I think R. J. Harvey is gonna
have something to say about that. Now, maybe JK. Dobbins
gets close to it, but I don't think he actually

eclipsed that record because you have two other capable running
backs who I think, if all things go well, that
they're going to demand their touches as well.

Are we are we writing off Jalia McLoughlin at this point,
Tyler Biday, somebody's not gonna be here, might be both
of them. But are we writing him off? He did
get some snaps today. Looks look look pretty, uh look
pretty Juweel's McLoughlin.

I don't think it's it's a matter of writing him off.
It's just a matter of being realistic where this team is. Yeah,
and with the mindset of the team, because when we
look when we talk running backs, you talk to them,
who are the three backs they're.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
Talking about, it's definitely JK. Dobbins and then Jodah Coleman
and R JRV.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
Exactly, So Talibraday and j Willis McLoughlin, they are just
I hate to say this, but it's like they're on
the team, but for the moment, they're afterthoughts. They don't
become somewhat of a topic until someone gets injured. And

(19:38):
we know that's how this thing works. Someone gets injured,
it's the next man up. And I would say this
talib Day and Joel McLoughlin if that wasn't happened that
someone with the stumble get injured, I think the first
back that comes in is Jelil McLoughlin over Talibaday.

Okay, all right, I always I don't think he's going
to be here. Okay, I don't think it's even gonna
be an option. I don't think he's gonna be here.
I mean, it was just disappointing as hell last year.
Whatever they gave Hi an opportunity, and it just felt
weird that he was eating up snaps that could have
gone to other guys that were obviously more productive.

Well, I mean, obviously that happened because someone likes him
in the building.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
The same thing with little Jordan Humphrey.

Speaker 3 (20:20):
Right, Well, that can be said. But when does your
affinity for a player trump's the idea of an impact
from another player.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
You tell me, I I know, I don't want to
get ino this because I've already done this a million times.
All I'm gonna say is, if guys are productive, you
probably want them in there more. If they're being productive,
put them, continue to put them in there. And I've
seen enough over the last three years of there are
moments where there are sort of favorites that are played
despite other guys being clearly more productive.

Speaker 3 (20:57):
Listen, I get it. I get the whole idea that
you may have a favor you may have affinity for
a particular player because your prior relationship something they did
off the field. I get it, But at the end
of the day, what are we trying to do. You're
trying to win games, and it's all about moving the
team forward, continuing the legacy of the head coach, also

(21:23):
continue to expand on the legacy of bow knicks. And
at the end of the day, obviously with it being
an offensive quarterback driven league, how can you put him
in a more advantageous position. So that means that you
put the offensive players on the field that are reliable, right,
because isn't that what it is. I have confidence in

(21:47):
your ability to do your job. Now, I may have
confidence since other guys to show up every at once
in a while, but we're not looking for every once
in a while team. We're looking for a team that
can get it done on a consistent base. This is
every single possession. So I don't care if it was
the guy who was cleaning toilets and the team facility.

(22:08):
If he can get out there and he can run
routes and move the chains, put him on the field.

Speaker 2 (22:12):
That's what I'm saying for me at the end of
the day, like who's out there producing? You know, you
can have your favorites you can have your boys. You
have your guys, but a the end of the day,
who's producing. And it looks like Davis Webb has kind
of got an eyeball on that a little bit because he,
you know, he continues to go to playmakers out there.
First couple of days. Now, again, we'll see if that translates.
It's three days in shorts, whatever. We'll see if that

(22:32):
translates down the stretch. But the early returns are you know,
we're going with guys that can make place. This is
going to be an explosive offense that makes place. And
I kind of have liked what I've seen so far.
This is the first time, gosh, ten years, first time
in ten years, I felt like the offense can carry
their freight with this defense.

Speaker 3 (22:51):
Well, I'm gonna say, pumpy brakes. Remember it's only the
first day, right, Gotta dropped the bread crumbs. We got
to see how this thing starts to progress. But what
we can say is that it seems as though there
was consertive effort. I don't know if it was because
the fans were out there, but they made a consert
of effort to get Evan Ingram the ball. Now, unless

(23:15):
I miss something. And I know Jolly had his attempts
and some of the other guys, but I didn't see
them going to Adam Trupman a lot. I didn't see
them going to Nate Akins. It's early.

Speaker 2 (23:26):
I did see Lucas kroll reception out there. So the
Hall of Fame campaign is still alive.

Speaker 3 (23:30):
Still alive, yep. But you can see it's trying to
build a rapport with Evan Ingram, getting him out there.
We know what he can do when you flex him out.
That's his wheelhouse. These are the things that he does well.
So they were trying to get some of the fans
in the media a little inside of what this could
be with the relationship between Davis Webb, the quarterbacks, and

Evan Ingram, and that.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
Will be will be a big thing because I think
if Ingram is the guy that they had hoped he
was going to be last year in this offense this year,
I think that opens up a ton for everybody else,
including in the run game.

Speaker 3 (24:09):
It does because if defensive units feel as though there's
a thread at the tight end position every time that
guy lines up, guess where you're looking. You're trying to
find where he is and sometimes that can take your
vision off of where you need to be as far
as your run keys. Then you mix it in with

(24:30):
a little delayed tight end slides where the tight end
leaks out and you dump it off, even if it's
a five yard catch. Once again, you now grab the
attention of the defense so they're thinking about that tight end.
It allows maybe that guard that tackle to climb to
the second level grab a hold of him, or maybe

(24:52):
a Sainetan who's in coverage. It puts him out of
a position where now you can run the ball.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
Yeah, a couple other the news and notes around the
league here. Tony Romo will go and leave from CBS
for an undetermined amount of time following his arrest for
suspected operating while intoxicating. Romo was arrested in Milwaukee on
July twenty third for suspicion of operating while intoxicated. I
think everybody's seen the bodycam footage at this point, which
surfaced on Thursday. Police reports note an open container of

alcohol inside the vehicle when he was stopped. He said
he was on his way to visit Grandma and grandpa
when he was pulled over. He's due back in court
on September twenty first. CBS is saying that JJ Watt
will take Romo's place on broadcast, teaming with Jim Nance
and Tracy Wolfson. Unclear if or when Romo will turn
to CBS. It's interesting to me because Tony Romeo was

such a thing when that first happened, when he first
became a commentator, was such a thing. And the shine
has really come off if you read Twitter at all,
like it's almost like he doesn't prepare anymore. You know,
it's just wildly different than when it was that first year,
when he was like a kid in a candy store
with football energy and just seems kind of kind of
out of it the last couple of years. I'm not
the biggest fan, you know. The first year I liked

his energy, but you know, I'm not the biggest fan
of what he brings to the table. I think other
guys that are better and got pushed aside to prop
him up. What do you think about CBS effectively benching
Tony Romo for JJ Watt after the DWI.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
I didn't think they were going to do anything to him.

Speaker 3 (26:14):
Well, I figure that they needed to, Like you, I
wasn't certain whether they were going to do it or not,
but they needed to send a message. And I know
there's been back and forth conversations on social media that hey,
Romo didn't look like he was drunk. He was following
everything they asked him to do. But I would have
people to look a lot closer and I look, I

could be wrong, but he's even though he was communicating,
it was a very slow communicating and with the cops
saying there was something in his bag, there was open container. Right.
You had to figure that they were going to do something,
and you are in the public eye and you have
to make sure you don't put yourself in these types

(26:57):
of situations or better yet, put the network in a
situation where they have to make a judgment call on you.
But this wasn't one of those situations they were gonna
let slide because in the week that Tony Romo kicked off,
there were several incidents, right with NFL coaches.

Kyle Shanahan, the Ben Steele from the Commanders, Yeah.

And you know the coach for the Minnesota Viking.

Yeah.

So it was just too much, too fast. So they say, okay, well,
let's let's go ahead and slow this thing down. We
have someone in waiting and JJ Watt, we can just
fill in that. Tony have a couple of weeks off,
let this thing die down, and when he comes back,
the season was being full of swing and no one
would freaking care.

Speaker 2 (27:40):
Yeah, I wonder, you know, I mean, maybe, you know,
maybe if he drives out a little bit, maybe that
becomes maybe he gets back to the form that he
had when he was initially CBS has kind of been
regretting the extension they signed him to just because like
the backlash of how ill prepared he has seen. Tony
Romo has seemed four games at times last year talking
about players no longer on the rock stir and just

I mean it really was. It really was kind of
awkward at times some of his color commentary last year.
And so maybe maybe, yep, maybe we get back to
something else. Another story I wanted to get to, not
NFL related, but the City of Saint Louis is letting
it be known they are open to a potential relocation
acquisition of the Portland Trail Blazers UH Saints. Mary kar

(28:24):
Spencer said acquiring an NBA team is on the city's radar.
Richard Chafitz, who is a minor minority owner in Tom
Dundan's group of the Trailblazers. There is a huge nil
donor for the Saint Louis University Billikins. Saint Louis has
been trying to get a professional sports team besides the Cardinals,
back into Saint Louis after the Rams left for Los Angeles.

(28:46):
I think that'd be a heck of a destination for
the Trail Blazers. I wonder you know the city of Portland, Uh,
it's kind of weird as a sports town. What do
you think about the idea of the Trail Blazers leaving
blazing a trail of their own out of Portland and
into Saint Louis.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
Well, if that would be interesting. I know Saint Louis
has been starved for a professional sports team. My only
issue with that is Tom Dundan. I think he is
the owner, the new owner of the Trail Blazers. I mean,
the stories coming out of Portland is how cheap he
is or Betty, let me rephrase that cost effective. He

(29:29):
will go brug there you go even better word when
it comes to doing things around the organization and coach's
salary because there's an idea that the lease or whatever
on the stadium is up, and he's thinking, like, look,
we could use a new one. I'm not using my money, right.

(29:49):
He wants to kind of get the people of Portland
to somewhat kick in it. That's been the case for
years when teams have won a new stadium. Instead of
the billionaire owners footing the bill, they want the fan
base to kick in. And there's no like discounts on
concessions and parkings for fans yep. So so why would

(30:11):
I do it? Like, think about Steve Boemer, the owner
of the Clippers, right right, I mean, they got a
beautiful arena and you think, okay, well we want you
to pay for it. Don't ask us to pay for it,
and you're not helping us out. So it's gonna be
interesting to see how this plays out. I know the
league doesn't like this because it is somewhat of a
black eye. But how do you deal with the owner

(30:33):
a new owner that the league had to agree on.
But he is cheap is hell? Yes?

Speaker 2 (30:41):
And like I don't And this is interesting because, like
I said, Saint Louis is a good sports town.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
I was born in Saint Louis.

Speaker 2 (30:45):
In the interest full disclosure, I think it's a good
sports town, you know, and the Rams were there, they
were certainly supportive and all that. He's just the kronky
saw more money in Los Angeles and went for it.
Not that I blame him. The Cardinals obviously are a brand,
and they do they do well, you know, as far
as that kind of stuff goes. I think basketball would
do well in Saint Louis. And like I said, Portland's

(31:07):
such a weird sports town, like it just is, like
that's the only pro sports team they have, right It's
it's just an odd, an odd town. And so I
started to get the idea there if they think they
can make more money. I don't know at the end
of the day if that move will actually will actually occur,
actually happen, but I thought that was one of those
ones that kind of piqued my interests as I was
coming through some.

Speaker 1 (31:25):
Of the some of the stories out there today.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
As far as the rest of it from training camp, obviously, everybody,
we have a special broadcast tomorrow morning, nine am to
noon camp broadcast myself, Nick Ryan Edwards as well. That'll
be a lot of fun we do those on Saturdays,
first two Saturdays every year. That's always a lot of
fun for us to do and so looking forward to
having you guys join us for that one tomorrow. With

with regard to training camp and the way that it's
going so far, the new Broncos facility, by the way,
super nice as we've seen it, I think there's a
just there's just a palpable sense of optimism about this
team that really is like the fant the way the
fans were interacting, uh with everything today. I just think
that there's a sense of optimism based on what this

(32:11):
team did last year, that fans are believers. State they
believe that this is a potential Super Bowl caliber football team.
They laughed last year when Sean Payton said it, but
they believe this year.

Speaker 3 (32:22):
I believe in miracles.

I really thought you were going with I believe I
can fly for a minute there no, no, no, I
really thought you were going there.

Speaker 3 (32:29):
No no, uh. There is a belief and you know
with anything new, shinning, new toy some cases quarterbacks, the
belief is that the expectations now go up. And having
a new facility as great as it is one I'm
jealous for sure, just keep it for you know, no

(32:52):
cap for transparency. But I think this will elevate things
for the players and increase still amount of pressure on them.
And you think, well, they got a new facility. Why
would that do that? Because when something happens in your
life and it's a change for the better, the expectations
that you know better, you do better. So some fans

(33:13):
are going to look at it in that way and
this is exactly where you want to be. Pressure is
the privilege, as they would say. And now it is
up to the Broncos to now come through because from
a progression standpoint, they've shown from year one to year
two on the bow things have gotten better. And no
one anticipated that we would see what we saw last year.

(33:34):
But it was a breath for a share and we
all loved it. Now it's like what do you have
for your second at.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
Yeah, and now it's time to the promise has been percolating.
Now it's time to deliver.

Right.

Yes, I do believe, like a lot of fans that
the Broncos probably would have made the Super Bowl last
year if bo had been healthy for that Patriots game.
I'm not sure they would have beat Seattle, but I
do believe they would have made the game, and so
I think that's that's the thing. I think this season
is one of those things where everybody's looking at health.
Does Bo's ankle hold up?

Dobbins stay healthy for entire season with his with his
pinky promise that he will? You know, what is it
that Jalen Waddell actually adds to the table in terms
of opening all this stuff up? Can Ingram be the
guy that was promised? And these are all questions on
the offensive side of the ball.

Speaker 3 (34:22):
Well, yeah, there are more questions on the office side
of the ball than there is on a defensive side
of the ball. One of the bigger questions on defenses
Jonathan Cooper. Is he going to be Is he going
to be readily available? But this is a training camp
that you need to see. We all need to see
the offense take that next step. And I'm not talking

(34:43):
about in practice, man, we can be ood and odd
in practice. It is let's see what happens even in
the preseason games, even though we're not going to see
a lot, but just give us some signs that the
offense is moving in the right direction. If we don't
get that if we don't get that Ben, there be
some problems, some serious problems.
