Harvey just had a nice touchdown from bow Nicks and
then also a nice catch and run from Evan Ingram
against seven O seven is h Welton. It's a trills
designed for the offense. The offense really needs to win
those if the offense is struggling in sevens and well
it's very telling. But in this case yesterday during sevens

they had some really big moments. First play was a
deep and cut to Cortlan Sutton and then a deep
crosser from Pat Bryant and I mean you they got
They got off on a roll yesterday and kind of
kept going, you know, Susie, yesterday was it was a
big day for the offense.

Certainly nice to see that on day one of training camp.

Speaker 4 (00:59):
I know it definitely you know what's interesting as we
look at this, and it was touched on yesterday. I
think Alex Singleton talked about it and about how interesting
it is that you come back with almost the exact
same team, and like Alex said, we're not having to
learn anything new. Nobody's having to learn anything, and so
I think it's really cool that they can come in

Be able to go.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
I feel like we're just extending where we left off
in January basically, and there's only you know, your new
rookies that have to learn new things. And they did
so much in Ota, so it's really fun to watch
how they're just already clicking. And I feel like that
has not happened well. Hast a couple camps where we're
sitting here and go ooh, we got some work to
do in some places.

But it's really clicking. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:40):
I think, like I said, we open the show observations
as the offenses look smoother than we've previously seen it
at this point in camp for quite a few years. Yes,
and that's I think a telling sign. Ryan was asking, well,
is at an indictment of the defense, I don't think so.
I think the defense is still a defense. I just
think the offense is finally you know, it's finally finally clicking.

I think Havevid Dave web in there and updating some things.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
You know, we got motion going on, tempo going on now,
where we're sending the you know, the tight end down
the field vertically. I think there's I think there's some
things that we're doing that are adding to this offense.

Yeah, good to see Evan Ingram.

I was just watching me when you guys were on
with Rick doing quite a bit here, and it's it's
good to see that. I think that's something that everybody
is really watching for this year, is to see how
much more he gets involved and when he does get involved,
does he do what he needs to do, which, you
know what, I would have to think that the more
he's involved, the more the better he's going to be,
because last year it was just so happenstance when he

would be a part of the game, and then sometimes
he dropped the ball and things just wouldn't happen I
you'd expect with him.

So I'm looking for good things from Evan this year.

I completely agree. And yesterday we did see that.

I mean it was when they got into the team,
he was heavily targeted. Yeah, I expect that to be
continue to be the case because of what the mismatch
is there. You brought up the continuity stuff there. You're right,
we talked. We talked about that a lot. On the defense,
we don't really talk about a ton of the office.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
You bring in Jalen Waddle. That's about all the only
change that you had there too, along with all your rookies. So,
I mean, it's it's one of those things where I'm
just like, when and you guys have been around this
game for a long time, have you ever seen a
team come in with practically the exact same team as
the year before, especially in this day and age of
free agency In the seventies and eighties, you saw because
guys were stuck forever.

But you never see that now.

For turnover minimum on most of these teams.

Speaker 5 (03:21):
Yeah, so you know, sometimes up to forty forty five percent,
and you know, look at this, I mean the John
Franklin Myers thing.

But it's other than that, that's it. It's I mean
your influx a rookies. But other than that, explain come

And I'm like, man, I actually know everybody's names and numbers.

The training camp rule, I call everybody the number until

have to do that.

I would do that too, where I'm like, I really,
I'm not going to spend a lot of time learning
these because I don't.

I only have so much brain capacity and half of
them won't be here. So but now this year.

It's way easier. Yeah, learned out there. I still look
at eighty seven.

I think Travis McGriff and I just can't get that.

receivers outside of Wattle and Sutton, what are your expectations
I'm hoping.

Speaker 4 (08:50):
For, Well, obviously big things from Pat Bryan and also
Troy Franklin too, and I just I really want to
see both those guys, and I like both of them
a lot. I got to Troy even more this past year.
He did a lot of my pregame pieces with me,
and he's just they're they're both really really good guys.
They're both quiet, but they can do such great things
on the field. So I think seeing you know, the

two of them, I think it's going to be interesting.
I know Sean doesn't have a depth chart and he
made that, he said that yesterday. He will remind you,
yeah that, and I think he's introducing Drew Brees.

Yeah, anyway, but that there's no number, you know, as

How much rotation they used to do last year.

And I would sit there on the sidelines and anybody
can see that that's watching the game that you know
is in the stands and you can see the sidelines. Well,
just I mean it's it's constantly there was constant change
and and sometimes not really under knowoing, you know, and
somebody's going in late and the clock's ticking down. And
so I think that as these guys get better and
and hopefully with Davis Webb, things will change a little

bit with that too, where I think they'll become and
I could see, you know, you could see frustration with
them sometimes of trying to figure out who's going in
and what are we doing and why am I coming
out right now when I should be staying in and
if something happens, keep them in, like you had said earlier.
So I think I'm really looking forward to seeing what
Troy and Pat do this year.

Is that Courtland Sutton's successor, So yeah, there's there's I
think there's a lot writing on his development this year.

the thing that we know about training camp.

The idea is that if you're gonna have a.

Healthy competition, you have to give an equal balance of
plays to each guy so you can actually go out
and evaluate. So tomorrow, whomever you're seeing now being the
backup and tomorrow's practice, the opposite guy is going to
get more reps.

Speaker 3 (11:20):

I feel like that's happened before.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
I remember that from years past, where the two and
three quarterback were every other day, one was two, one
was three. Yeah, Ryan, I remember that when you played
like that was and I can't remember what coach it
was that did that that specifically mentioned that that that's
the way they were doing.

Speaker 7 (11:39):
The reason why you'd have been back, Yeah, the reason
why you do that because you know, if you put
the backup quarterback in with the starters, you're going to
see great production, right, but you want to see that
player's leadership when he's in with the guys on the
third and fourteenth.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
Yes, that's how you can really.

Pull that true leadership because now you have to work
a lot harder. Because it's easy to go in and
work with the starting team.

Because we know that wide receiver room is still pat well,

I think they're gonna hang on to everybody. I mean
may maybe there's old Jordan. Yeah, even if they get wild.

I mean that's that that can always happen, right, I mean,
if if suddenly somebody's going to offer you a third
for Troy Franklin, it is what it is, right, But
I would say this case, they're pretty happy with their room.

You get the sense from.

Sean the way he talks about some of these players,
there's always that fear of a guy going somewhere and
just going bananas right and going off. I think that
they had a belief in what Devon Bailey was. He's
a good player, he's a solid player, reliable hands, good blocker,
all those kinds of things. But they felt like they
probably got a lot of those things with other players.
And when they saw Pat Bryant take the step forward
in camp last year, I think they felt more comfortable

moving on this case.

I think Troy.

Franklin, because I remember the draft day story from Seawan,
how he called George at six o'clock in the morning,
said we got to get Troy frank We have to
trade up and get this guy.

That for me keeps ringing around in the back of
my head on why they wouldn't trade He'd be the
only one. I don't think they're gonna trade Marko Mims
because he's two players for you.

Thing they take in consideration, the same thing the players
need to look at. Just because you're on this roster
doesn't mean that you make go open to day Ross
because guess what, there's thirty one other teams that have
a group of wide receivers, so.

They've already had it on their board.

Not well, this building, not this building anymore, as far
as which teams are heavy at that wide receiver position,
and if they release this player, which player would you
like to bring in? Because you're not just competing against
guys on this field, you're competing against guys on all
the thirty one teams at your position one hundred percent.

And so to say that they won't trade anybody, I mean,
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
We talked about it right at the beginning, Susie.

They a lot of death that this team is checked
full ninety returning right, But that's by design. And and
to Shoosi's pointed right off the top of the show,
I'm glat you brought it up. Is some of the
reasons why we saw some of the fireworks we saw
yesterday is in part because these guys know each other.

in there and take a look at it. I just
his history to me sort of suggests that that's that's
not a guy.

game without pads, But I'm curious how Jonah Coleman has
looked out there, loved his patience and vision as a runner,
and would like some insight on how that has translated
to this point. Well, your first point is exactly right.
I wouldn't say we've borned much, if anything, so far

about the running game. Both all running backs have shown
ability to catch passes out of the backfield and have
been utilizing that. We haven't we haven't done a ton
of running drill stuff yet, but when we get the
pads on, we will see some of that.

Speaker 7 (32:15):
Well, you know what, Ryan, I don't want to sound
like they'd be down here. But I just want to
be realistic about I just want to be realistic and
paint the picture. Even when they do get the pads on,
there is still going to be the coaching philosophy, keep.

Everyone up, you don't want anyone on the ground.

Speaker 7 (32:33):
So we're not really going to get a true test
unless this team has an in the squad sam scrimmage,
which I hope they do, because it's about allowing the
running back to run. Once he runs through the hole,
maybe tag him up, but let him let him get through.
So even though the pads are going to be on,
we're not really going to see exactly what each one
of these running backs actually brings to the table, which

is why I'm a little disappointed because I was looking
forward to the Broncos having joint practice.

least you're gonna see some of the lanes that could
potentially open up. Right, And you see also, certainly from
the offensive line if they're getting leaned on a bit
by the defensive line. Right, there's some some battles in
the trenches. You a chance to watch a lot. You know,
I canna see everything. And certainly there are moments since
you're not trackling to the ground, Hey would he have
broken that tackle and taken it for a long run

or would.

He go down on contact? Right there?

You're right, there's not you're gonna learn everything, But there
are certain things because you run some nine on seven, right,
and then those are like, hey, we're running, we're not
throwing the ball, We're only running, And then you're gonna.

See a little bit of that as well.

So in that drill you'll be able to see the vision,
the balance, all of those things should be able to
see during that period all the things that when we
look at this three hundred months or backs that the
Broncos have, we'll get somewhat of an idea, but not
a true idea of it. And the reason I'm saying
what I'm saying because playing here for Mike Shanahan and

when Alex Gibs was here. The idea is that we
want to make sure we build callus and Cam and
the only way, like Bill Parcell said, the the way
you get better football is pice to the football, so
it would be thought up. And what that means that
that you're going to tackle a guy from the waist up,
not hitting him below his legs, keeping your teammates up.
Sometimes that you may fall to the ground if it's

a young Nick Ferguson in the play.

But the idea is that you're able to teach tackling
throughout practice.

I mean, I know you did play some teams.

These are always interesting drills.

I think a lot of times for the media and fans,
you don't even always really know what you're looking at us, right,
I mean you'll see some you'll see some angles on
some pott return stuff. But even then sometimes it won't
even be with the defenders out there, right, you won't
see gunners necessarily coming down n till was we get
closer to game. So right now we're seeing guys fielding,
you know, punts. But I think it's even it's not

on jugs, so it's not even like any kind of
game simulation.

Speaker 3 (35:52):
What do we wing?

Speaker 7 (35:53):
Well, I mean for them, it is kind of game simulation,
even though it's coming off the jugs. Can't you read
the ball in fly? Because the hardest ones are the
end over end balls where you're trying to hold them in.
And now since you have no one around you, can
you track the ball? Can you use proper technique as
far as getting your elbows together so the ball doesn't

drop through your arms? But just like the tackling thing,
like Marvin Man's and all these guys who are fielding
these punts. At some point you need to have all
your players run down the ideas you're not going to
hit them, but you want to put bodies around them,
so once they get in the game and bodies are
around them, they could catch the ball. Now, I would

tell you this, I'm gonna be totally honest. I've never
really excelled well in these types of drills because in
my mind, once they punted.

Speaker 3 (36:44):
The ball, it was all live to me. So my
natural instinct with kick in and.

Speaker 7 (36:49):
Oh, by the way, this was one of those drills
when I was with the Jets that Santana Bass ended
up getting injured.

Speaker 1 (36:56):
Yes, that makes sense. You almost kind of need the
game or the live.

It's it's it's a it's just trying to simulate live reps.

But you can't do that here.

the returners an opportunity to feel that heat and that
pressure around it.

Players in the NFL is running downfield on the punt team,
and that guy doesn't call the fair catch, and you
and you're getting closer and closer to him, and then
you get to him, he doesn't wave, and you go,
