into the Hall of Fame later this week, Larry Fitzgerald,
this surprised me, still hasn't officially retired from the NFL.
Fitzgerald explained his choice to not officially retire earlier this week,
telling the media quote, I remember them talking about retirement

killing more people in our country than anything. So that
always stuck with me. And so I don't believe in retirement.
I just think you transition into different phases, especially as
an athlete. I'm curious, what do you make of that
response from Fitzgerald and what's your favorite memory of that
Hall of Fame receiver's career.

Like I could just say that I don't believe in
getting older, but I you know, I'm just transitioning into

Well, you know, I liked all three of those guys,
and they are just kind of impact players when it
comes to their teams, and they're game breakers. They're not
just running backs. And when you put the ball in
the hands. They are exceptional running the ball and passing
the ball. But you have to say, well it has
to be bjon because Bijeon has the longest deal, does

I get I would say looking at this, I would
say Jonathan Taylor at the better of the deal because
his deal isn't that long and he can go back
to the table.

anytime you can go back and get more money, to
me that that scale tips in your favor.

think I you know, I tend to agree with Dick
on that, you know, Bijon Robinson. If I had to
pick one of these three guys, Bijeon's the guy would take.
But as far as the rest of it goes, I mean,

good for them for secure the bag.

I think Bijeon's the bargain I like the best, and
I agree all these guys here. If you're shopping in
the expensive aisle, But I think you're getting the best
running back out of the bunch. He's, you know, now
making slightly less than Jamier Gibbs for whatever that's worth.
And Taylor, as good as he is, he is a
little cheaper. That's also his third deal, whereas it's just
the second deal for Bijon, So you're maybe getting a
little more tread on those tires. Three up and coming

Falcons edge rusher Jalen Walker towards ACL and practice this
week and will miss the entirety of twenty twenty six.
How big of a loss is that for the Falcons end?
Are they just better off taking like the Cardinals or
Dolphins at this point instead of trying to contend for
the NFC South title in a playoff spot?

I mean I kind of made that point. They're already
going to be miss James Pierce on a suspension. Now
you've got Jalen Walker that's out. You got two quarterbacks
don't look like they're any good in Tua and Michael Pennix.
You're in a division where I think the other teams
have laughed you, and I wouldn't be surprised if the
Saints set up being the best team in the division,
but they got you. The Bucks are decent and Carolina

made playoffs last year actually taken mely won the division.
So you know, I think I'm not saying anybody should tank,
because I'll never say that, but but you're thinking it though,
I am thinking it.

Jakobe Lane to Michael Thomas earlier this week for his
size and strong hands. What do you make of that comparison,
and what do you think about coaches making these lofty
comparisons in general? Do you think it's kind of good

to build that confidence for these players or is it
setting the expectations too high?

It does both, it said.

The expectation is pretty high, but it tells that particular
player that you are comparing what you expect of them
and some of the attributes you see in that player
to development player that you are comparing him to.

Like you mentioned size.

Like like Michael was like a big wide receiver, and
that size might be there, But now the production has
to be equivalent to the comparison. But that's the way
we live in. We always compare one thing to another.

guy didn't produce, or he's fifth on the depth chart

kid down.

it gives that kid an opportunity to say, well, this
is the way they see me. They see me in
the light of this player, so it forces player to
step that game up to as well.

a quote like that gets out in media, and then
media holds that player to that standard, and I'm like,
you know, maybe he's got the traits or whatever, but
this is I mean, he's obviously not Michael Thomas, so
what are we doing here?

an actual comp There's been a couple of coaches over
the years that have said some stuff and I'm like, man,
that that's stupid, Like, don't don't do that, because now
you place this expectation. You get every writer in town
when he doesn't meet that, you know, blasting the kid.

And it's through no fault of his own with his
long reach and supple hands five every time.

Aaron Donald officially worked out for the Los Angeles Rams,
this as he continues to eye a potential return. Will
Donald returned to the field this season end. If he does,
when will we know and when will he start playing?

What will that role look like?

Well, first of all, I broke this story that he
was coming back back when the day of Miles Garrett
trade right here on KAAWI Sports that this was something
that Aaron Donald was eyeballing in terms of coming back
and the Rams were very up to it. He in
order to practice with a helmet on and team gear.
He had to do an official workout at the facility.
So that's why this went the way that it did.
That's just NFL CBA rules. I do believe he's coming back.

I think he's coming back. I think he wants to
try everything out and be one hundred percent. I know
that he was leaning towards coming back the day that
the Garrett trade went down, if that happened, and so
I still believe he's on course for that, even though
he's trying to like figure out if the body's you know,
going to be good enough to hold up way, why.

Go through all of this and jumping through all these
hoops if you're not going to come back, and this
this is just part of the process, part of his
comeback story, if you will. And even Sean McVay, you know,
every time you watch him and he talks.

About this, his face lights up.

It's just a matter of when Aaron Donald feels as
though he is ready to come back. I feel Aaron
Donald is probably going to come back, maybe that last
preseason game for the Rams, or maybe after the last
preseason game. But because none of us are expecting realistically,
speaking Aaron Donald to freaking play in the preseason game.

I think it would have to follow at the earliest
some post preseason thing. I've heard some talk or speculation
about maybe he even waits until mid season or whatever
so he can come in for the home stretch and
you know, stay fresh that way. I think, you know,
you get him fairly close to the start of the
season and he just plays a rotational role. You know,
they've got Braydon Fisk and Kobe Turner where you know,

obviously Aaron Donald, at the height of his.

Powers, was much better than those guys.

But now you can ask him to play, you know,
twenty thirty percent of snaps and hopefully keep them at
an especially high level for the whole season.

I think this is trending in the right direction for
Aaron Donald to come back.

I'll just say that six Vita.

Vea's agent, Colin Roberts, told the Tampa Bay Times this
week that he doesn't see it ending in anything but
a trade at this point, it being the standoff between
Vea and the Bucks. However, Bucks GM today responded via
the Tampa Bay Times saying that he has no plans
of trading Vita Vea. How do you think this situation
(13:39):
ends end? Will MESSI contract disputes with Vea and Mayfield
impact the Bucks playoff or NFC South hopes.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
Yeah, I think it definitely will because other players on
the team are looking at this as well.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
And if you are players on.

Different teams and expiring deal's and you were hoping to
go to Tampa for one reason or another, you're seeing
things play out. And this happens with every team from
a contractional standpoint, and you want to see that. Hey, look,
guys who do well by you, you take care of them.
But if you don't, I mean, guys have social media,
they can display they have this grunted they are. And

Baker Mayfield did that already. You know, I think with
Jeremy Fowlers saying, hey, listen, I don't like exactly what
took place here. I did everything that I was supposed
to do and now I'm showing up. But I'm going
out play this contract and really stick it to them.
But you got two of your marquee players. One is
your quarterback, one is Vita Vea. And when Veta's not

on the field, I mean you can just run through
like a hot knife through butter with a Tampa Bay defense.
So the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are going to have to
figure out something or they run the risk of losing
two players. Yeah.

I believe that they will get something double Vita Vail.

I don't believe they get traded. I do believe it'll
be long term contract. But these are the things you
say right now as you're at that point. As far
as Baker Mayfield, I believe the organization not want to
pay him long term because they don't believe Todd Bowles
is going to be there after this year.

Want to tie quarterback into multiple years and put off
a head coach that doesn't want to be working with
Baker Mayfield because there are guys that don't want that
personality at the quarterback position. I think it will motivate Baker.

I think it motivates Baker. I think he plays the
chip on his shoulder and go goes the balls out.

Yeah. I want to see the Oklahoma bringing that guy.

Back, and it seems like that is when we get
the best version of Baker. But I will say, if
you're the Bucks and that's your plan, and I think
it's a sensible plan to an extent, why not trade
via right, we're gonna move off the head coach after
this year. Again, if that's the plan, we're moving off
the quarterback after this year, we may be headed towards
a bit of a rebuildvea is you know, nearing thirty,

if not past thirty, to where a year from now
his trade value will be lesser than what it is
right now, why.

So if we're going to be moving on from quarterback

Yeah, he certainly has. He's been a big target for them.
And you just look at their receiving corps and I mean,
top to bottom, could this be the best receiving corps
in the NFL? I mean it's probably not the best
one two. You got the guys in Cincinnati, obviously, but
how about one through five? You know, you obviously have

Courland Sutton and Jalen Waddle and Troy Franklin and Marvin
Mims Junior and even our old friend little Jordan Humphrey
is looking great in practice. Sean Payne said the other
day he's defining human life in that at the age
of twenty eight, he's gotten faster.

Chris, how much of that defining human life has a
lot to do with Maje and Humphrey being quite familiar
with this offense as the key to I guess his
longevity and stamp the Denver Broncos.
Speaker 6 (19:02):
Yeah, I mean, boy, is he familiar with him? I
mean he's spent He's in his ninth season, and he
spent every season of his career except one that he
was with the Patriots when Peyton didn't coach in two
thousand and twenty two, and then half a season he
spent with the Giants last year. But other than that,
he's been with Sean Payton the entire time, and he's

got some good intangibles. I mean, I talked to him
last year and he's not a braggadocious guy, but he said,
I'm the best blocking wide receiver in the NFL. So
maybe we need to create a blocking award for receivers.

And here I was thinking it was maybe that dossier
of photos he had on Sean Payton or something yeah,
I talk with Chris Thomas about Chris. You know, as
we look at the defensive side of things, you.

Know, there's there's been some sort of rumblings, I guess say.

You know, you see in the Twitter sphere of people
maybe talking about Johnny Baron being a bust because he
hasn't cracked the starting lineup yet. What do you say
to people who try to run that maybe sort of
narrative out there.

Sean Payton came out and said, flat out, I mean,
I don't know who wrote it. It wasn't anybody legitimate.
They wrote that john Ay Barron was moving to safety,
and he flat out said that wasn't the case. But
it is interesting. I mean, Jay Kwan McMillan, who I
wrote a big story on and posted a few hours ago,

is unequivocally the slot cornerback, and we've talked about this
before that they need to re sign him. And Riley
Moss is having a really nice camp. I mean, we
talked to see weeks ago about I'm saying that maybe
Baron should treat challenge Riley Moss. Well, at this point,
he would lose such a challenge because Moss is looking

really good, you know, I think for now there needs
to be some patients. I'd be surprised if has a
huge role this season. I mean he'll playing nickel, dying packages,
what have you. But you know, down the road, if
they give both Jay Mack and Riley Moss an extension,

I mean, where does that put barn then it gets
real interesting and then things will really light up on Twitter.

Well, let's stick on j Max for just a second.

And j Meg was one of those under the radar players,
like under the radar players, but he's actually played himself
into a marquee role and people have knowledge of him
being one of the better nickel corners in the NFL.

And I know you've spoken to him, What do you
think has been his motivation every time he gets up
in the morning.

You know, for me today I asked him about his
work at think. He said it started when he was
five years old and he did little workouts as he
called it, with his father. His father unfortunately passed away
and December of twenty twenty two, and he says everything
he does is kind of in the memory of his father.
And Riley Moss today talked about Jay Mack and just

talked about his tremendous work ethic. I mean, he was
undrafted in twenty twenty two out of East Carolina, and
by the next season, week four, he was the primary
nickel guy. And he just has this knack of always
been around the football. And I asked Sean Payton about
that today and he certainly agreed and said that j

Mack can be you know, others can emulate him just
the way that he's around the football with interceptions and
fumbles and even sacks he had four last year.

Telly Chris Thomason at Chris Thomason on Twitter. He covers
the Broncos obviously for the Dever Gazette. Chris, it's there's
a lot of expectation on this team this year, and
you know, obviously they've set the bar high for themselves.

They believe they're a Super Bowl contender.

They were game away last year, probably would have got
there if bo had been healthy. What do you think
is the biggest thing? Is it keeping Boonick healthy? Is
that the biggest thing they need for a return to
the AC Championship game and to get over the hump
of the Super Bowl.

Yeah. I actually did a story leading into training camp
where I listed seven things in honor of John l Way,
seven of the most interesting number in Maroco's history. Seven
things they needed to do to win the Super Bowl,
And of course that was at the top of the
list right there. And you know some others obviously were

improved the running game, which looks like they're doing a
good job of but JK. Dobbins needs to stay healthy,
and you know, they obviously need to replace John Franklin
Myers on defense. The Jonathan Cooper situation can't become a distraction.
But you know, one thing I didn't put it in,

but I think they need to. I mean, they did
a good job last year, but they did lose in
Indianapolis and the Chargers. They need to show their ability
to win on the road because this year's schedule is

have to go on the road in the playoffs next

whole John Dean Cooper situation, but from a different perspective,
we know, the legal issues in that process is going

Benito laboring with somewhat of a minor issue, I just

Q Robinson an opportunity to really showcase what they can do.

In your mind, if whatever happens with John de Cooper,
whether it's a two games to bench six game suspension,
what is your belief that either of these guys, Jona
Allis and Q Robins can step in and the Broncos
edge rush doesn't miss.

A be Yeah. I think they certainly can. I was
talking to John Alisoi this week. He said they have
one of the deepest outside linebacker corps in the NFL,
and I think from top to bottom. I mean we
talked about receiver being the deepest. They might have the
deepest outside linebacker edge rusher with those five guys, and

you didn't even mention Dondre Tillman, who's another guy who,
in j Mac fashion, has kind of emerged from nowhere
to be a solid pro. So yeah, and Keth Robinson
is having a solid camp and he's a guy when
you unleash him, I mean, you know, he might end

up being the top reserve. It's not out of the question.

Talking with Chris Thomason from The Gaze, Chris, Who's Who's
somebody he noticed out there at camp that it might
be impossible to ignore when it comes down to start
trimming this this roster down. I know, you know, I've
seen Brent Austin out there making making plays. Put his
name up on the board, and he's a he's a
depth corner. Who else have you noticed out there is
somebody that is just kind of making it impossible to ignore.

Well, Peyton said the other day when he was asked
about guys who've been pleasant surprises. I mean the first
guy mentioned was Jonah Coleman. I mean, obviously he's going
to make the team, he's a lock. But he also
talked about the young linebackers and I think they did
really well there late in the draft. I mean, mister
irrelevant getting read Murdoch and then in undrafted guy Tory
(26:26):
in York who was I mean, Murdoch is seventeen forced
fumbles in college in his career, which is a NCAA record,
And Peyton keeps talking about emphasizing turnovers takeaways this year,
So he's probably a good guy to stick around. And
Tory York kind of has been overlooked as an undersized guy,

but he was a tackling machine and did a great
job at Texas A and M. So I think those
inside linebacker rookies are worth keeping an eye on.

You come down on this backup quarterback battle because as
coach Payton, there's no such thing as a quarterback backup battle.

But we all know different. So what do you follow
on this? Are you team Steady or more team Sam Ellinger?
Speaker 6 (27:17):
Well, I kind of chuckled what he said there was
no official battle because I actually asked Peyton at the
owners meetings March thirty first and seenexis there was competition
for backup quarterback and he said there was, and then
he reiterated it last week, and then all of a
sudden he says there's no official battle. So I guess
(27:37):
if Allinger looks good in the preseason, I'll have to
ask him if the battles become official. But you know,
I think I think Ellinger's got a great shot at
getting the number two position. I mean, they really liked
the guy and he's been loyal and he stayed there
and I think he's had a lot of conversations with
(27:59):
him past year, and if he didn't think he had
a good chance to with this franchise, he wouldn't have
stuck around because other teams wanted him. And then you
have to look at the salaries. I mean, you know,
stead I'm making about a much higher salary than Ellinger does.
So if it's close, you know, you might give the
nod to Allan. Then on that factor, talk with Chris.

Thomas and the Denver Gazette. Chris, Uh, you know, it
looks like they've got the the Burnham Yard stuff pretty
much settled here. You've seen an outpouring of of people
that are adamantly against PSLs. Not the pumpkin spices lattes,
although people should be against those anyway, those are disgusting,
but the personal seat licenses in the in the stadium.
There's been some outcry about the you know, not close

parking and the transit and things like that. What have
you what have you noticed about that? And and do
you feel the same way as some of these Internet
people that are saying that the way they're doing this

Well, that's the way of the world. These days. I
Actually I'm old enough to have a covering some Carolina
Panther's way back when they were the first NFL team
in nineteen ninety five and started PFL. Actually they didn't
start it till the next year because they didn't move
into their stadium. They play it Clemson in ninety five
and moved into their new place in ninety six. And
it's become the way of the world since then. And

there'll be somebody who will pay it. I mean, there'll
be people who complain, but a lot of those people
that complain, if they have the money, they will pay
the PSL. If they don't have the money, they'll be
somebody else who does.

Well, you know, I liked all three of those guys,
and they are just kind of impact players when it
comes to their teams, and they're game breakers. They're not
just running backs. And when you put the ball in
the hands. They are exceptional running the ball and passing
the ball. But you have to say, well it has
to be bjon because Bijeon has the longest deal, does

I get I would say looking at this, I would
say Jonathan Taylor at the better of the deal because
his deal isn't that long and he can go back

anytime you can go back and get more money, to
me that that scale tips in your favor.

think I you know, I tend to agree with Dick
on that, you know, Bijon Robinson. If I had to
pick one of these three guys, Bijeon's the guy would take.
But as far as the rest of it goes, I mean,

I think Bijeon's the bargain I like the best, and
I agree all these guys here. If you're shopping in
the expensive aisle, But I think you're getting the best
running back out of the bunch. He's, you know, now
making slightly less than Jamier Gibbs for whatever that's worth.
And Taylor, as good as he is, he is a
little cheaper. That's also his third deal, whereas it's just
the second deal for Bijon, So you're maybe getting a
little more tread on those tires. Three up and coming

Falcons edge rusher Jalen Walker towards ACL and practice this
week and will miss the entirety of twenty twenty six.
How big of a loss is that for the Falcons end?
Are they just better off taking like the Cardinals or
Dolphins at this point instead of trying to contend for
the NFC South title in a playoff spot?

I mean I kind of made that point. They're already
going to be miss James Pierce on a suspension. Now
you've got Jalen Walker that's out. You got two quarterbacks
don't look like they're any good in Tua and Michael Pennix.
You're in a division where I think the other teams
have laughed you, and I wouldn't be surprised if the
Saints set up being the best team in the division,
but they got you. The Bucks are decent and Carolina

and what do you think about coaches making these lofty
comparisons in general? Do you think it's kind of good

to build that confidence for these players or is it
setting the expectations too high?

It does both, it said.

The expectation is pretty high, but it tells that particular
player that you are comparing what you expect of them
and some of the attributes you see in that player
to development player that you are comparing him to.

Like you mentioned size.

Like like Michael was like a big wide receiver, and
that size might be there, But now the production has
to be equivalent to the comparison. But that's the way
we live in. We always compare one thing to another.
Then and I comparing groupier floats the coke floats.

a quote like that gets out in media, and then
media holds that player to that standard, and I'm like,
you know, maybe he's got the traits or whatever, but

you place this expectation. You get every writer in town

long reach and supple hands five every time.

Aaron Donald officially worked out for the Los Angeles Rams,
this as he continues to eye a potential return. Will
Donald returned to the field this season end. If he does,
when will we know and when will he start playing?

What will that role look like?

Well, first of all, I broke this story that he
was coming back back when the day of Miles Garrett
trade right here on KAAWI Sports that this was something
that Aaron Donald was eyeballing in terms of coming back
and the Rams were very up to it. He in
order to practice with a helmet on and team gear.
He had to do an official workout at the facility.
So that's why this went the way that it did.
That's just NFL CBA rules. I do believe he's coming back.

I think he's coming back. I think he wants to
try everything out and be one hundred percent. I know
that he was leaning towards coming back the day that
the Garrett trade went down, if that happened, and so
I still believe he's on course for that, even though
he's trying to like figure out if the body's you know,
going to be good enough to hold up way, why.

Go through all of this and jumping through all these
hoops if you're not going to come back, and this
this is just part of the process, part of his
comeback story, if you will. And even Sean McVay, you know,
every time you watch him and he talks.

It's just a matter of when Aaron Donald feels as
though he is ready to come back. I feel Aaron
Donald is probably going to come back, maybe that last

a trade at this point, it being the standoff between

the Tampa Bay Times saying that he has no plans
of trading Vita Vea. How do you think this situation

ends end? Will MESSI contract disputes with Vea and Mayfield
impact the Bucks playoff or NFC South hopes.

Yeah, I think it definitely will because other players on
the team are looking at this as well.

Different teams and expiring deal's and you were hoping to
go to Tampa for one reason or another, you're seeing
things play out. And this happens with every team from
a contractional standpoint, and you want to see that. Hey, look,

out play this contract and really stick it to them.
But you got two of your marquee players. One is
your quarterback, one is Vita Vea. And when Veta's not

on the field, I mean you can just run through
like a hot knife through butter with a Tampa Bay defense.
So the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are going to have to
figure out something or they run the risk of losing
two players. Yeah.

I believe that they will get something double Vita Vail.

I don't believe they get traded. I do believe it'll
be long term contract. But these are the things you
say right now as you're at that point. As far
as Baker Mayfield, I believe the organization not want to
pay him long term because they don't believe Todd Bowles
is going to be there after this year.

Want to tie quarterback into multiple years and put off
a head coach that doesn't want to be working with
Baker Mayfield because there are guys that don't want that
personality at the quarterback position. I think it will motivate Baker.

I think it motivates Baker. I think he plays the
chip on his shoulder and go goes the balls out.

Yeah. I want to see the Oklahoma bringing that guy.

Back, and it seems like that is when we get
the best version of Baker. But I will say, if
you're the Bucks and that's your plan, and I think
it's a sensible plan to an extent, why not trade
via right, we're gonna move off the head coach after
this year. Again, if that's the plan, we're moving off
the quarterback after this year, we may be headed towards
a bit of a rebuildvea is you know, nearing thirty,

if not past thirty, to where a year from now
his trade value will be lesser than what it is
right now, why.

I talked to various different media people, always trying to
get their opinions on various different things, get those those
contrasting sets of eyes on things. But I think we're
all pretty much in agreement that did Pat Brian has
really come alive in this training camp?
Speaker 6 (18:03):
Yeah, he certainly has. He's been a big target for them.
And you just look at their receiving corps and I mean,
top to bottom, could this be the best receiving corps
in the NFL? I mean it's probably not the best
one two. You got the guys in Cincinnati, obviously, but
how about one through five? You know, you obviously have
(18:26):
Courland Sutton and Jalen Waddle and Troy Franklin and Marvin
Mims Junior and even our old friend little Jordan Humphrey
is looking great in practice. Sean Payne said the other
day he's defining human life in that at the age
of twenty eight, he's gotten faster.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
Chris, how much of that defining human life has a
lot to do with Maje and Humphrey being quite familiar
with this offense as the key to I guess his
longevity and stamp the Denver Broncos.
Speaker 6 (19:02):
Yeah, I mean, boy, is he familiar with him? I
mean he's spent He's in his ninth season, and he
spent every season of his career except one that he
was with the Patriots when Peyton didn't coach in two
thousand and twenty two, and then half a season he
spent with the Giants last year. But other than that,
he's been with Sean Payton the entire time, and he's
(19:26):
got some good intangibles. I mean, I talked to him
last year and he's not a braggadocious guy, but he said,
I'm the best blocking wide receiver in the NFL. So
maybe we need to create a blocking award for receivers.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
And here I was thinking it was maybe that dossier
of photos he had on Sean Payton or something yeah,
I talk with Chris Thomas about Chris. You know, as
we look at the defensive side of things, you.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Know, there's there's been some sort of rumblings, I guess say.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
You know, you see in the Twitter sphere of people
maybe talking about Johnny Baron being a bust because he
hasn't cracked the starting lineup yet. What do you say
to people who try to run that maybe sort of
narrative out there.
Speaker 6 (20:11):
Sean Payton came out and said, flat out, I mean,
I don't know who wrote it. It wasn't anybody legitimate.
They wrote that john Ay Barron was moving to safety,
and he flat out said that wasn't the case. But
it is interesting. I mean, Jay Kwan McMillan, who I
wrote a big story on and posted a few hours ago,
(20:33):
is unequivocally the slot cornerback, and we've talked about this
before that they need to re sign him. And Riley
Moss is having a really nice camp. I mean, we
talked to see weeks ago about I'm saying that maybe
Baron should treat challenge Riley Moss. Well, at this point,
he would lose such a challenge because Moss is looking
(20:53):
really good, you know, I think for now there needs
to be some patients. I'd be surprised if has a
huge role this season. I mean he'll playing nickel, dying packages,
what have you. But you know, down the road, if
they give both Jay Mack and Riley Moss an extension,
(21:14):
I mean, where does that put barn then it gets
real interesting and then things will really light up on Twitter.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
Well, let's stick on j Max for just a second.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
And j Meg was one of those under the radar players,
like under the radar players, but he's actually played himself
into a marquee role and people have knowledge of him
being one of the better nickel corners in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (21:39):
What do you think?
Speaker 1 (21:40):
And I know you've spoken to him, What do you
think has been his motivation every time he gets up
in the morning.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (21:47):
You know, for me today I asked him about his
work at think. He said it started when he was
five years old and he did little workouts as he
called it, with his father. His father unfortunately passed away
and December of twenty twenty two, and he says everything
he does is kind of in the memory of his father.
And Riley Moss today talked about Jay Mack and just
(22:09):
talked about his tremendous work ethic. I mean, he was
undrafted in twenty twenty two out of East Carolina, and
by the next season, week four, he was the primary
nickel guy. And he just has this knack of always
been around the football. And I asked Sean Payton about
that today and he certainly agreed and said that j
(22:30):
Mack can be you know, others can emulate him just
the way that he's around the football with interceptions and
fumbles and even sacks he had four last year.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
Telly Chris Thomason at Chris Thomason on Twitter. He covers
the Broncos obviously for the Dever Gazette. Chris, it's there's
a lot of expectation on this team this year, and
you know, obviously they've set the bar high for themselves.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
They believe they're a Super Bowl contender.
Speaker 3 (22:56):
They were game away last year, probably would have got
there if bo had been healthy. What do you think
is the biggest thing? Is it keeping Boonick healthy? Is
that the biggest thing they need for a return to
the AC Championship game and to get over the hump
of the Super Bowl.
Speaker 6 (23:08):
Yeah. I actually did a story leading into training camp
where I listed seven things in honor of John l Way,
seven of the most interesting number in Maroco's history. Seven
things they needed to do to win the Super Bowl,
And of course that was at the top of the
list right there. And you know some others obviously were
(23:29):
improved the running game, which looks like they're doing a
good job of but JK. Dobbins needs to stay healthy,
and you know, they obviously need to replace John Franklin
Myers on defense. The Jonathan Cooper situation can't become a distraction.
But you know, one thing I didn't put it in,
(23:51):
but I think they need to. I mean, they did
a good job last year, but they did lose in
Indianapolis and the Chargers. They need to show their ability
to win on the road because this year's schedule is
much tougher, and you could see perhaps the Broncos might
have to go on the road in the playoffs next
year against some team that may be as a way
(24:13):
easier schedule that gets home field, so they'll have to
prove their metal on the road.
Speaker 1 (24:19):
Well, Chris, I want to talk to you about that
whole John Dean Cooper situation, but from a different perspective,
we know, the legal issues in that process is going
to handle itself. But with him being out and Nick
Benito laboring with somewhat of a minor issue, I just
call it that, it's given, you know, Jona Ella's and
Q Robinson an opportunity to really showcase what they can do.
(24:41):
In your mind, if whatever happens with John de Cooper,
whether it's a two games to bench six game suspension,
what is your belief that either of these guys, Jona
Allis and Q Robins can step in and the Broncos
edge rush doesn't miss.
Speaker 6 (24:54):
A be Yeah. I think they certainly can. I was
talking to John Alisoi this week. He said they have
one of the deepest outside linebacker corps in the NFL,
and I think from top to bottom. I mean we
talked about receiver being the deepest. They might have the
deepest outside linebacker edge rusher with those five guys, and
(25:17):
you didn't even mention Dondre Tillman, who's another guy who,
in j Mac fashion, has kind of emerged from nowhere
to be a solid pro. So yeah, and Keth Robinson
is having a solid camp and he's a guy when
you unleash him, I mean, you know, he might end
(25:37):
up being the top reserve. It's not out of the question.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
Talking with Chris Thomason from The Gaze, Chris, Who's Who's
somebody he noticed out there at camp that it might
be impossible to ignore when it comes down to start
trimming this this roster down. I know, you know, I've
seen Brent Austin out there making making plays. Put his
name up on the board, and he's a he's a
depth corner. Who else have you noticed out there is
somebody that is just kind of making it impossible to ignore.
Speaker 6 (26:00):
Well, Peyton said the other day when he was asked
about guys who've been pleasant surprises. I mean the first
guy mentioned was Jonah Coleman. I mean, obviously he's going
to make the team, he's a lock. But he also
talked about the young linebackers and I think they did
really well there late in the draft. I mean, mister
irrelevant getting read Murdoch and then in undrafted guy Tory
(26:26):
in York who was I mean, Murdoch is seventeen forced
fumbles in college in his career, which is a NCAA record,
And Peyton keeps talking about emphasizing turnovers takeaways this year,
So he's probably a good guy to stick around. And
Tory York kind of has been overlooked as an undersized guy,
(26:49):
but he was a tackling machine and did a great
job at Texas A and M. So I think those
inside linebacker rookies are worth keeping an eye on.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
You come down on this backup quarterback battle because as
coach Payton, there's no such thing as a quarterback backup battle.
Speaker 4 (27:08):
But we all know different. So what do you follow
on this? Are you team Steady or more team Sam Ellinger?
Speaker 6 (27:17):
Well, I kind of chuckled what he said there was
no official battle because I actually asked Peyton at the
owners meetings March thirty first and seenexis there was competition
for backup quarterback and he said there was, and then
he reiterated it last week, and then all of a
sudden he says there's no official battle. So I guess
(27:37):
if Allinger looks good in the preseason, I'll have to
ask him if the battles become official. But you know,
I think I think Ellinger's got a great shot at
getting the number two position. I mean, they really liked
the guy and he's been loyal and he stayed there
and I think he's had a lot of conversations with
(27:59):
him past year, and if he didn't think he had
a good chance to with this franchise, he wouldn't have
stuck around because other teams wanted him. And then you
have to look at the salaries. I mean, you know,
stead I'm making about a much higher salary than Ellinger does.
So if it's close, you know, you might give the
nod to Allan. Then on that factor, talk with Chris.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
Thomas and the Denver Gazette. Chris, Uh, you know, it
looks like they've got the the Burnham Yard stuff pretty
much settled here. You've seen an outpouring of of people
that are adamantly against PSLs. Not the pumpkin spices lattes,
although people should be against those anyway, those are disgusting,
but the personal seat licenses in the in the stadium.
There's been some outcry about the you know, not close
(28:44):
parking and the transit and things like that. What have
you what have you noticed about that? And and do
you feel the same way as some of these Internet
people that are saying that the way they're doing this
might be a mistake.
Speaker 6 (28:56):
Well, that's the way of the world. These days. I
Actually I'm old enough to have a covering some Carolina
Panther's way back when they were the first NFL team
in nineteen ninety five and started PFL. Actually they didn't
start it till the next year because they didn't move
into their stadium. They play it Clemson in ninety five
and moved into their new place in ninety six. And
it's become the way of the world since then. And
(29:20):
there'll be somebody who will pay it. I mean, there'll
be people who complain, but a lot of those people
that complain, if they have the money, they will pay
the PSL. If they don't have the money, they'll be
somebody else who does.
Speaker 3 (29:34):
That's that is the way of the world.

the flight from Centennial in the head.

No, I guess will Lots be on that flight too?

you know, some of those guys who knew Drew and
and all that kind of stuff, So that'll be that'll
be good for them. I look foreseeing that we had
Richard Rosis on the show this week, and he talked
about that. He said, because they preview, you know, they
get advanced copy of all the stuff, the speeches and
all that kind of stuff. And he said that the
Sean Payton presentation for Drew Brees is really going to

be something fun, something special for the fans to tune into.
So just a heads up, as somebody who's working for
the Hall of Fame made it a point to, you know,
to say that on our program, I would suggest that
probably is something to tune into.
