Speaker 1 (00:00):
If as part powered by Commons Spirits for Day eight
(00:03):
of Broncos Training Camp, a special edition to Broncos Country
Tonight's Ryan Edwards, Benjamin Albright and you will have some
fun guests throughout the next three hours.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
But if you are on your way in, you're in
line right now. You're listening to us. We appreciate that
it ran too.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Quite a few ka listeners Broncos fans on the way
in to the broadcast today. And then of course if
you can't make it down, well, then we'll try to
be your eyes in yours and I'll bring you as
much as though we can out here until Ben has
a heart attack from all these three monsters.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
He's drinking.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Hi, Ben, how's it going good? Wow, that was a
lot of energy for you. I bring the energy, yes
every time. No, that's actually not true. That is the
thing that is true. That is that is facts science.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
I do want to tell the fans as I was
walking through the line on the way out there, and
there is there is no damp blanket promotion, So there
is no damp blanket waiting for you as you as
you walk in.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Yeah, And I.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Wondered, I wondered because we have the koa tenth right
in the fan area.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
If there were so cold towels.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
There is no such promotion, despite uh just despite me
trying to get that across the finish line.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
So that's because nobody likes a wet blanket.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Ben point, the thing gets hot enough out here, they'll
begging for Actually, that's a good point.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
We we keep bringing this up as a thing is
to remind you that nobody likes a wet blanket.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Yet you continue to pursue this path lean all the
way in. That's uh, that's my model leaning.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
But you're right today it's gonna be it's gonna be
a warm one already, what eighty eight degrees, eighty five degrees,
so it's.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
It's gonna it's gonna get up there. But uh, it
should be fun.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
You know, I heard rumors reports that we're gonna have
a bit of a scrimmage today, though Dave yesterday said
he wasn't so sure that was gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
That may have gotten scrapped after a phone call, uh
from you know, after the injury, updated on a phone call,
so that may have got scrapped.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
And otherwise, say a light scrimmage was was intended. Yeah,
I mean it makes sense. Yesterday was brutal. We'll get
into some of some observations from practices over the course
of the week, what we feel like we've learned about
the team over the week. But yeah, yesterday's defically my goodness.
Matt Henningson in the drills earlier, just defensive line drills.
I mean, it wasn't even anything serious at least like
(02:08):
what he wasn't. It wasn't in the middle of practice,
right if you weren't doing anything in the trenches. It
wasn't some kind of got rolled up on situation.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
He was just doing a drill and he tore his achilles.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
The other one quite literally a year before he tore
his achilles out in San Francisco during joint practices. So
just a brutal run. Matt Hendingson was having a nice camp.
He certainly highly respected, highly thought of the defensive line.
I mean, I can't imagine going into the rest of
practice after watching your guy get carted off like that reminds,
(02:37):
you know, the kind of.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
The Tim Patrick back to back injury type stuff.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
What I will say is that I was unaware that
they had built a substation into the building here. What
that's our forty nine ers reference San Francisco injury you
pick up.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
It's a little too early for that kind of joke.
A monster here, there's a strawberry monster.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Okay maybe, although we're already got Christopher Allen and then
orange kool aid thoughts a mile post on Twitter, I'm
worried about you in your heart.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
That's well done from my I post.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
It's so good at all right, NFL being carved off
the field appears to be heart related. Yeah, brother, they listen.
I mean there's gotta be warning labels on these things.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Yeah, not in America.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Yeah, consumer responsibly not recommended for children.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
People sends it to.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
Caffeine and pregnant women, women who are nursing or human beings.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
So there you go, and Ben's got three of them
in front. I am sure I'll come up over the
course of the day. You're not really gonna drink all
three of those. No, you're here for decoration. Well, initially
you were offering him to the group, but I was
offering someone I was trying to be you know me,
I'm a generous man, but it was you know, you
were being communal, which I think is very nice and
(03:49):
and that that is cool. But then you got them
all all three out, and then you've you've wrote them
in front of yourself.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
So now I am wondering if you're gonna drink all three.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Part of it was the photo op for Anthony, for
the for the Twitter, but I will probably drink two
of them and save the there two monsters.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Bro, there's a time, and you have a lot of
quick caffeine.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
You're looking a little more spelled, some down a little bit.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
It's not even just this medium shirts that hug every crevice.
It's it got its fla and if you don't got it,
flow it too. Yeah, but you know what I'm saying,
You do look better. But this, this can't be part
of the diet. I mean, I mean today is this
is the Breakfast Champions. It's two cliff bars and two monsters.
Sometimes I wonder if you still think you're eighteen, You're like,
(04:30):
what do you mean?
Speaker 2 (04:31):
I'm not. All you need is like a box of cheese.
It's here.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
And then like in your video game console, I thought
about breaking the.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
PlayStation into TV. I'm propping it up here. The brakes,
I'm sure you did.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Did you ever get the Benni Hanna the thev told me.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
On that one.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
I can't only imagine why no thing For years Ben
was gonna try to flex on the rest of the
media and have a buying out a.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Hibachi grill and have them make me make me food
for lunch here or whatever, and uh yeah, Patrick was like, Okay,
we're not gonna.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
So somebody told you that there was never gonna. It
got to Patrick and that was you. And then he's like,
all right, we're not gonna. Is this serious because we're
not doing that. Can you imagine that was pre Sean Payton.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Can you imagine, Oh my god, Hacket made Hackett would
have let me do that. You know he will'd Hackett
absolutely would have let me put abatchi grill out here
and make food.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
He thought you were fun and cheeky. He did, for sure,
But then again, he also wasn't a very good coach.
That's bad judge, a character, bad coach, it's you know whatever.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Yeah, there might be been diagrams. The overlap is a
perfect circle.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
Speaking of Shawn yesterday, I told the story on the
air to Dave uh because he came out here for
the first portion of practice and then there's a section
there for the media where we have a little bit
of overhang and some shade, and I don't know, I
I kind of feel weird sitting in practice. I think
for years we weren't allowed We're kind of not allowed to.
It was like frown and pond. But then there's like
(05:50):
an area to sit. So I sat down and I'm
not kidding seconds, Sean Payton starts blining my direction and
I told the story on the I was like my
heart rate went from arresting sixty like a nice you know, Hey,
We're in the shade and I'm feeling comfortable. So I
just slammed two monsters and I just jumped on a
roller coaster and did all the dips at the same time.
(06:11):
And so he's beenlining towards me, and I'm thinking, like
what do I do?
Speaker 2 (06:14):
Do I stand? Do I like? Do I run?
Speaker 3 (06:17):
Like what was picturing Ryan about to pop up into
military parade rest waiting for Sean Payton to come talk
to him.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Honestly, I didn't know what I was supposed to do.
It's the whole I don't know what I'm supposed to
do with my hands. Like I didn't know what I
was supposed to do in general, and so I stayed
my ground though. I sat there and I just said, hey,
good morning, coach, and he said good morning, and he walked,
he ran up the stairs, and it was going to
catch a flight, as I found out later. And but
you know, in the moment, and I was telling Dave
(06:44):
this or a moment there, there was just a kind
of a panic attack, mild panic attack. And he's just
I mean that that's sean nice guy, but also pretty intense.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
He's pretty intense. I agree with that portion of your sex.
A pretty tense guy. So especially if you're in the
practice field.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
He's a bit of a task master, right, I mean,
every single thing is happening the way he wants it
to happen. So you know, you got a media member
some whoever, he doesn't even know me, really sitting over
there in the shade, and you know, I feel like,
and Dave said this, he's like, he wouldn't have come
and addressed you personally. He would have flagged somebody and said, had.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Them come talked to our boss, Dave Tapper, who then
would have you know, Yeah, anyways, we're off rolling here.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
We're gonna be on until noon today and added bonus.
I mean, hopefully guys a chance to listen to us
over the next three hours. But we're gonna give you
a chance to win a pair of preseason tickets to
Broncos Packers and a pair of Broncos Vikings preseason tickets
and in Power Field, a mile high from the official
home of the Broncos k Away. We're gonna give away
(07:44):
that two pairs of tickets today so to both both
preseason games to one lucky listeners. So we'll be listening
for that. I'll let you know. It'll be a cute call.
I'll let let you know how we're gonna do that.
Plus again, they can go to the tent right and
check out with promotional stuff for that too. They can
register for it over to the tent. Okay, so if
you're on your way out here, you can register for
(08:05):
this as well. But we're gonna do that on air
for those listeners. So both Yep, two separate giveaways.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
I thought that was the case, but I'd better check
before I say too much.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
So yes, we have two separate giveaways.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
You can go to both preseason games from KAWA. One's
gonna be on air today and one you can register
four in the tent if you're coming out here to practice,
and good for you.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
They come in that cool little commemorative flannel you know,
gift box.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
So does it?
Speaker 1 (08:30):
Does it bother you that they wouldn't do a wet
blanket wet towel giveaway?
Speaker 2 (08:34):
But I got a flannel thing. Now.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
I don't have that kind of ego like you Afternoon Drive.
You know, guys got steven mentality. I just I'm I'm
an egoist person. Yeah, nobody's ever said that you have ego.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
I mean really, it's just yeah, so humble, really the humblest.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
I like how you say things sometimes and you think
like you think we don't understand you.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
I think you understand me.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
You think your listeners just don't like the world they're
in on the joke, I think they are. Okay what
we say, Dakota, WHYU says one monster is more than enough?
You know a doctor might say zero monsters is more
than enough, and then you of course are gonna tries
with three.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
I mean, is this is this challenge? Are we doing
the challenge here? Well?
Speaker 1 (09:20):
I mean, now I kind of want to see it.
It's like, so I Initially I was worried about your health,
and now I'm on the other.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Side of the grotesque.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
You know, I want to see this guy sprout a
third arm live on the air.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
It's like the people that watch Joey chests that, which
I think is one of the grossest things.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
That disgusting. I can't. But then you're like, but now,
now I gotta Now, I can't watch that sixty five
hot Dogs. I can't watch that. It's a it's a
marvel so here just you know, man, I'm.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
Like, I'm like mister Burns and the Simpsons episodes or whatever, you.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Know, when he finds out he did, and he's like,
I mean mood or whatever. You know, you have every disease.
They're just perfectly imbalanced. The slightest sneeze. That's a good pull.
That's a good poll. Actually, that's a good pull.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
Smith's so back to yesterday for a moment. So Matt henningson,
of course a terrible, terrible news he did.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
Of course, terror's achilles.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
He's going to be out for the remainder of the season,
and honestly, I don't know what this means for his
career beyond that. Then you have Marvin Mims pulling up
with a leg injury. We can't describe too much of
what we ultimately saw, but he pulled up a little
bit on a deep route, and I mean he was open.
An opportunity to catch the ball would have been there,
he would have he would have caught it for sure,
(10:28):
but he pulled up. And then Nate Adkins. We don't
even know for Nate Atkins what that is that you
have you heard anything.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
We're not allowed to.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
Report on the nature of things until coach does, so
I'm not gonna exactly say all that that. I expect
both those guys to be uh to be fine for
you know, a little little short term paying for for
They'll be fine down the deadline.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
Okay, well that's good.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
And and so far over the course of training camp
we already got somebody this okay, yeah, but anyways, I'll yeah,
we'll read that in a second. But you know, so
far are the injuries for training camp have been just that, right?
I mean, Nick Benito Courtland sum were both out there
at practice yesterday, Courtland Sutton doing a little bit more
(11:07):
than Nick Benito. But that's that's a great sign. H
Jalen Waddle we heard his strain four to five days,
although you if you watch him walk, it feels like
maybe you're gonna take that a little slower.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
The thing about Wattle, and I said this when they
acquired Wattle because because it's funny how there's this perception
like the the injury prone thing, and I'm like, but
Jala Wattle doesn't miss games.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
He just missed time in a lot of games.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
Like there there's he has this and if you go
back and you look, his snap percentage can be fairly
low in a lot of games because he'll miss chunks
of time and games for little dings and all that
kind of stuff. But you know, that's the things. He's
usually available for every game. But there are strains and whatever.
And it's the nature of being that quick twitch a
guy that you're you're gonna be susceptible to that kind
of stuff.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
So and but the good news is, and I do
love that they have availability to come out here and
observe practice. Right, same thing with Luke Wattenberg who got
injured on Monday during individual He's fine, Yeah, he seems fine,
and and I meant precautionary thing, Yeah it might as well.
And he had surgery surgically repaired I think shoulder in
the off season, so there's really no reason to push
(12:11):
anything at this point.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
I'm just saying I like that they're out here observing.
I think that that's right. Yeah, right, But it sends
the right.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
Message too, Like it's it's like, hey, this is all
this all matters. We're not excusing anybody from many practices.
If you can be out here, you're out here, even
if it's a leg injury. Jalen Waddle, who didn't get
a lot of reps with with U O Nicks over
the course of the off season, Well, guess what, it
still matters to be out here. And yeah, I mean
you got a muscle something you got to strain. You
(12:37):
can stand on the sideline, you can rehab over on
the side field, and you you get you kind of
get looped in when all the meetings and stuff that's
happening with.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
Your position group, which I think is important. There's just
something being around your guys like that.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
There is, you know, and I think anybody's ever you know,
playing or been in a locker room, you kind of
you kind of understand that there's something about being around
your guys, being a part of your team, even if
you're not able to take every rep or be be
involved in every rep. Just being around that that is
free to core and and continuing to build as a unit.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Text line from Brian BCT is a splendid radio program.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
Congratulations on that.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
Well, you know, the people are spoken, and I'm glad
that our boss is here to hear.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Yeah the throng.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Are you guys gonna talk football or what you're doing now?
We'll probably do a little bit of both. Maybe you
have some caffeine and well, I mean there's no such
all happening right now, so touch some grass, I don't know,
coc and a smile.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
Listen, Yeah, there is no football happening.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
We're we're talking to dragonflies and David Tepper and Anthony
rod Reez. By way, shout out to Anthony rod Reeves
doing a phenomenal job out here with the digital media,
social media stuff. Phenomenal stuff. We've have updates on the hour.
Over the course of training camp. He's been putting out
videos in the morning, putting out videos after practice. We've
been doing interview interview videos, so all sorts of really
(13:55):
cool coverage out here. Shout out to Anthony and of
course shout out to Dave Tepper forgive us the opportunity
to be out here. Hopefully that texture is okay with
me saying things that are not football relayed for a second.
But yeah, I mean listen, Yeah, we're talking to to
grass right now. And I am excited to see kind
of what today's practice looks like in some ways because
after last Saturday, It's funny we did the show with
Nick and I'm effusive in the offensive performance that we
(14:20):
saw on Friday.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Dead Defenderick will let he will never let you.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
And since then it has been much more of the defense,
like all over the course of the week.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
Well, and but Nick's never gonna let you.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
You know, a former defensive player, He's never gonna let
you get away with well, he has.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
A natural inclination to just lean defense anyways. But he
took it like as a personal affront.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
He does that.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
I was saying nice things about the offense, like how
dare you The.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
Only reason the offense did anything is the defense was
taking a break on that play.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
I mean, I'm gonna be Nick today. I'm just gonna
give his bad analogies somebody back. Shannon's got back there.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
You got to make guy or theme music on standby
just to run that NonStop.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
Don't tempt him. He literally he'll troll us both by
doing the new mcguivor theme music for three straight hours. Yeah. Yeah,
let's let's not do that.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
But yeah, man, listen, you know, I'm excited to see
whether it's a scrimmage today or if it's just a
spirited practice. It looks like I think we're getting some
paths today. It looks I don't know, glasses on here,
but is that what you see, Anthony? Yeah, yeah, I
think we're getting another pass practice.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
Yeah. I saw Evan Ingram walking by. He had a
touchdown yesterday doing move the ball. Yep, that was It's remarkable.
There's sometimes where you get into like game situations. And
I'm not saying this is a universal point I'm making here,
but your Bonex is a gamer. I mean it's just
I mean, simply put, like it was a fourth quarter simulation.
(15:42):
In minute twenty one, you're starting from your own thirty
nine yard line, you're down by four, you need a
touchdown to win the game. Bon Nix movement right down
the field to score a touchdown because he did that
all last season, so like it's amazing how you bring
him out here and you're like, all right, hey, first down,
first quarter, we need to get three. You need to
get a first down. And he's like, I don't know
(16:03):
if I can do that. But then when you get hey, bo,
it's the fourth quarter. Somehow, if we could like hypnotize
him into believing every quarter is the fourth quarter, he
might be the best quarterback that ever lived.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Yeah, it's there's a there's a mentality that goes to that.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
I can I could sort of empathize or relate to
to that in you know, in a way like in
my own staggeringly mediocre uh you know, high school athletic career.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
But like you turn there's a point where you.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
Don't want to lose, Like you're so competitive that that
extra ten whatever that is, like you can turn that
on late and laden games, laden matches, And I don't know,
I really don't know how to describe that any better
than that, But there would be times where whatever support
I was playing, like we'll be you know, we down
or something like that late and man, there's something that
wakes up inside you that's like I do not want
to look, I can't lose this thing. We're at crunch time.
(16:48):
It just clicks on. If you could see it Bo
like you could see it Bow last year, bringing those
uh bringing the team back in those games. He is
a competitor, he's a competitive human being and that it
turns that on in those moments.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
And that was that was one of those moments. I
mean that he wants to win the he wants to
win the practice.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
The throat to Courland Sutton the twenty seven yard or
to get him down to the eight yard line was magnificent.
I mean, he put it in a spot where Coreland
Sutton could go up and get it. There was nobody
else that could challenge that throw. And it was the
very next play through it to Evan ingram On on
sort of a touch pass fade, and it was pitch
and catch.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
You know because at that point, I mean.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
We're talking ones versus ones, right, This isn't like some
other camps where you got ones versus twos to give
the offense a little bit of a mental boost or
or feel.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
Better about this.
Speaker 3 (17:32):
Bridgewater looked better than that.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
I know.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
Yeah, you were, well.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
You were bitter about it because you knew what it
was like if you didn't have the insight that you
tend to be plugged into.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
Yeah, if I had known that was.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
A sham, like I would probably Yeah, you're like out
here a practice, Like yeah, they're you know, dialing it up.
And of course he did terrible. Yeah in that drove
like three interceptions from the crowd. Yeah, and I think
that's where you were most lead annoyed by that. But listen,
you stick around this game long enough, you do learn
how the sausage she gets made, and to that point,
you start to learn about how they try to feature guys.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
We've talked We've talked about it for years, even just
on the surface level of preseason games where you feature.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
Guys Albert oku Wabanon, for example, trying to get him traded.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
So trying to get him traded.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
Uh, is there a possibility just for fun for a
few minutes here, could we see that this preseason, like
who would be the Albert oakle waban On that they
might try to feature over the course of the next
three preseasons.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
Well, the problem with that is those guys are on
the defensive side of the ball, right If you're looking
at the it trying to do those kinds of things.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
You're you're you're Brandon Jones or you're you're Riley Moss.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
You know, now you had Benito get dinged up, and
Cooper may have a suspension that he's been facing. Otherwise
you'd be looking at maybe trying to throw one of
those defensive those edge rushers you know out there, as
well as maybe some baits.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
So there really isn't I don't think a guy on
the offensive side of the ball. That guy's try Franklin.
I mean that that that would be that guy was
the first thing.
Speaker 3 (18:59):
That's the odd man, that be the odd man out
because you know, little Jorde Humphrey brings the block into
the table, Mims brings the return ability to the table.
We've all seen Pat Briant vault himself into into third
ride receiver and eventual Courtland Sutton success or conversation. Uh,
they're not gonna move Wattle. So that really just leaves
Troy Franklin and maybe one of those tight ends, you know,
a Hall of Famer like Lucas crowl to a mere
(19:20):
mortal like Adam troupin you know, maybe one of those
guys if you if you haven't I don't think there
you're getting much of a tight end for them.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
I think tight ends another one because it's a pretty
loaded room. You drafted two guys this year. I don't
even know if both of them are gonna make the
fifty three. I think I would probably say Joe Lee's
got the inside track for sure because they traded up
for him.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
But but down Billy, by the way, is showing up
as a blockers to say he's a much better blocker
than Joelee, and that's gotta that's gotta Cara along Way.
The other thing is, I think the other guy that
you would be trying to feature would be Jared Stidham,
except the entire country saw that NFC Championship game, so
you know, but.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
You probably can't trade him, not with an eight million
dollar if somebody was the right.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
You know, if a quarterback goes down, you need a backup.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
You know that kind of thing. Sure, well, I guess,
and injuries aside. I'm just saying, like.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
In general on the Jets, I mean, he's as good
as anything they have on the Jets right now.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
He's better as good as Gino at this point in
his career. Did you see Geno last year.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
Now, I saw him last year, but he had some
moments in Seattle.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
I mean yeah, three years ago. Gino was tearing it
up as a great comeback story.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
But you're forcing me to do something that's very uncomfortable,
which is defending Geno Smith.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
It's very awkward.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
Really.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
I came in here today just to try to can
we get audio ride defending Geno so that I can
have that audio.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
This is literally misery for me. I'm hoping I wake
up right now and say, oh, the show hasn't happened yet.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
It's like trying to pivot me into defending Justin Field goals.
I'm gonna get you on that someday.
Speaker 3 (20:38):
It's a life goal when he eventually scores a touchdown
in his eighth season, It's a life goal of mine
to get you to say nice things about Justin Fields.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
He seems like a nice guy. There you go. You
didn't even believe that. I didn't know you said.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
That with like either fingers crossed or sarcasm dripping.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
From your forehead. That's sweat.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
It's hot outder Yeah, it's excellent.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
Oh yeah, I say, I say, Troy Franklin makes some sense.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
That's if you can find a buyer.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
But I think, yeah, again, we don't know what Marvin
mims right for for a moment, Like, I keep coming
back to something Sean said a while ago. And first
of all, remember reminder they traded up for Troy Franklin
in the fourth round. But he is of this opinion,
in this mindset of I don't want to watch a
guy go somewhere else and go off and at Troy
Franklin kind of fits that bill because there are some traits.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
Now.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
He dropped a gross deep ball yesterday, and that's you know,
I mean.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
There is a trait run there. I know, I know,
but there are also some nice moments for him.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
And I'd like to apologize to Troy Franklin. I did
not need to scream Kennison that loud when he dropped it.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
But yeah, I get that reference. You're one of the
four people who gets that reference. Yeah, I do Eddie
Kennison references. Yeah, old stonehands, Kennison, I.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
Thought you were gonna go, well, stonehands.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
I thought you were going to go to unnecessary roughness
or necessary roughness.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
Don't throw at the stone hands.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
Yeah, yeah, Tennison always looked like great Robert loja. Yeah, yeah,
Kitnison always looked like he was trying to catch the ball.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
Between two frying pans. He looked like he was running
out there with two skillets trying to catch a football.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
A couple of texts here before we hit the break
here at the bottom of the hour, once again, we're
gonna give you a chance to win a pair of
preseason tickets to not only next week, but the week after.
One listener today. I'll keep updating that until you win.
That cute call is uh textter since you have to
in all caps talk about what's going on in front
of you, how hell exactly how fast is the grass growing?
So this is for the texture earlier that was complaining
(22:42):
about free radio in the morning on a Saturday. I mean,
certainly we could have gone back to our paid programming,
which we were thrilled about, but we're trying to bring
you coverage out here at Broncos training camp, and you know,
Ben and I are going to probably talk about monster interurgeernk.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
So the grass is h it's pretty green. There are
some brown patches in spots. But oh, I can't even
I can't, I can't do that. Yeah, I mean it's
held up. Well, they think, all we're.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
Out here with the Scott's turf Builder earlier trying to
get it.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
That's that's Scott's. I'm gonna do the accident, get that promotion.
I'm good. I can't make it through the accent. Feed
your lawn, yeah, feed it. I'm not there a spot.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
Okay, so we're we're not even Oh you are into
the second monster.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
Yeah, I'm already here. I'm a mom third of the
way thro the second one.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
Oh boy, it's gonna get it's gonna get really interesting.
It's gonna get weird, folks. All Right, we're off rolling
here on Saturday morning. Very excited to be with you, Benjamin,
all right, Ryan Edward's Life from Broncos, Part Powered by
Common Spirit Practice will get underway a little after ten o'clock.
Some players are working the way out on the field.
I will update you what everything we're seeing all the
way till twelve o'clock today, and I'll look forward to
hang out with you guys. So U hit us up
(23:47):
on the text line five six six nine zero. Keep
listening for that que to call to win those tickets.
We'll be right back on ka Jam and ol Bright,
Ryan Edwards five six six nine zero is our Kae
common spirital text line. We' getting all sorts of questions
about Bronco's practice training camp over the course of the week.
Will file through those momentarily, fans are filing in. Practice
(24:12):
will be underway here in about twenty five minutes. But
you know, it's a it's a it's a it's a
long ramp up right. I mean, just if you haven't
had a chance to make it out here, and I
hope you get a chance too. There's there's some walkthrough,
there are some individual drills, there's some stretching, and I
wouldn't say I honestly think practice in earnest really doesn't
(24:33):
start until almost eleven.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
Yeah, it's generally the time that the stretching portion is over.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
So just as an FYI, it's not like all of
a sudden at ten o'clock we're gonna be like, all right,
oh my gosh, bo Nix is throwing bombs. I mean,
he might be very funny moment yesterday, by the way,
just for a moment, and I talked about this with
Ave yesterday during the show.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
Just a huge fan of ja Quon McMillan for a
multitude of reasons. Hell of a player.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
But there's you do this kind of walk through where
you're just kind of setting the tone for the day,
setting the you know, you're just guys are quite literally
walking through, right. It's not it's not even half speed.
They uh, you know, it's pitching catch, right, So everybody
goes out and the route, the defenders go and follow them,
and everybody's just kind of getting into the flow of
(25:19):
what the day's supposed to look like. And bo Nick's
goes to just sort of touch pass to uh Pat Bryant,
kind of an outroute.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
You know.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
Again, they're all walking and Jayawan McMillan's like, no, I
don't think so, and he just swatted it away from
him and and Dave said it perfectly. It reminds you
of when you're playing basketball when there's a whistle of
foul away from the ball and the guy with the
ball decides to jack it up for the three, right,
and then you know, somebody jumps up and.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
Swatch the way. He says, Nope, nope, not getting in
for anyone. Nope, not on me, not at my house.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
So anyways, it's great, all right, let's get to the
text line here five six six ninees, y're and again
be listening for those of que to call coming up
here in a little bit, we're gonna give you a
chance to win a pair of prese in tickets for
not only next week, but the week after.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
Also again visit our tent.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
If you're on your way out here, visit our tent
for another chance to register for a pair of preseason
game tickets to both games. And of course you can
only get that right here on the whole of the
broncos Kawa. Let's see here. It Fields is so bad
at scoring touchdowns? How come ben Ozak two stakes? Oh,
that is a good question.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
Because Brian Dable hated Russell Wilson so much that he
refused to put him in the game. Russell Wilson almost
had more touchdowns in no time playing. So your argument
is almost My argument is that Russell Wilson did not
get on the field to have the opportunity. Justin Fields
played three quarters of the season. It stilled like one touchdown,
but he won more games.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
He won a game because he got on the field,
and the Jets actually found a way to just want
to confirm did you lose the bet. I mean in actuality, yes,
but in spirit everyone knows.
Speaker 1 (26:52):
No weird thing to say, but no way ego nowhere
it's whatsoever?
Speaker 2 (27:01):
Uh yeah, of course. Uh.
Speaker 1 (27:03):
Let's see here, what should we expect from Joanah Coleman
this season?
Speaker 2 (27:07):
What are the realistic expectations? These are pretty good at here.
Speaker 3 (27:10):
I would not be surprised if he has the second
most rushing attempts on the team behind JK. Dobbins, is
assuming the health of Dobbins, you know, all that kind
of stuff. If Dobbins were to go down, I think
Colan would leave the team in rushing attempts.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
I R. J.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
Harvey is has carved down a role here, but I
mean it's it's the Reggie Bush roll, right, He's the
pass catcher, mismatch guy.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
You could put him out in the slot. Can you
know you have work out there? If if R. J.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
Harvey has more rushing attempts than than targets this year,
I would be very, very surprised.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
Jonah Coleman has steadily.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
Improved over the course of camp, and actually I thought
yesterday was not only his best day, it's the best
day for the running game. And it's a little bit
difficult to really judge the running game out here in
training camp because you can't tackle to the ground.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
Is it a broken would it? Would it have been
a broken tackle.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
They blow the whistle off the times when there's any
kind of contact. But you know, these guys, especially running backs,
pride themselves on the opportunity to be able to break
out some of these Every one of.
Speaker 3 (28:09):
Those running backs thinks every one of those runs went
for a touchdown by the way they broke out of
every one of those tackles.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
That's that's how that works, right. And then simultaneous and
the defensive players.
Speaker 3 (28:17):
That had him in the backfield every time that it
was actually a sack, that was a CFL, it was
a handoff, it was still a sack.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
It was right.
Speaker 1 (28:24):
So it is difficult. But yesterday you had a couple
of big runs. I thought JK. Dobbins sort of set
the tone early. He had a nice run, and then
a little bit later on RJ. Harvey had one of
his biggest runs at camp. He's been great in the past.
Game gets that in a second, and then again Joe Colan,
he's he's probably straying together some of the better runs
now he gets to go second third team doesn't typically
get a lot of run or as Day would say,
(28:44):
tick with the first team offense, but he does get
out there and he and he has steadily improved.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
He's been working a lot in the pass game too.
Speaker 3 (28:50):
I would not be surprised if if Coleman winds up,
you know, taking the spot that Bidet had last year
and then eating into some of those second down you
know kind of stuff is the you know, split kind
of stuff as you rotate and try to keep Dobbins
uh fresh.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
That said, you see R. J. Harvey a little bit
more on third.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
Down this year than you did last year as a
pass catching option on you know, for third downs. It
was that was one of those things last year you
got this pass catcher, but you left him off because
you had a better pass blocker in the day who
was not a good pass catcher.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
Uh And And so I think you're gonna.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
See Harvey get a little bit more third down work,
and then I see Colebyan get a little boards. So
there will be more of a blending of that kind
of stuff. It won't be as strict a role as
maybe it was when Sean was running everything he seems.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
Pretty excited about this running back room.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
I mean, and maybe there's like not to like, but
I'm just saying, like he went out of his way.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
They're gonna have to cut the room. They're gonna have
to cut guys they don't want to cut, you know.
Speaker 3 (29:44):
I mean, you've gotta you know, you got a five
headed jabberwokie out there right now. It's you're gonna have
to figure out what you're gonna how you're gonna make
that work.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
And he's even said it's hard to even get three
guys to really work into anything.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
I think R J. Harvey.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
I'm not saying that he won't get some opportunities to
to run between the tackles, but I think I really
think he's kind of in for a bit of that
Alvin Kamara passing game role. Yeah, like he might end
up being your Tyler Badet then it was Reggie Bush
before that. Yeah, for Sean, it's the same, it's the
same role. He looks great doing it, so as well
as it's like not even a knock on him. I mean,
(30:17):
you certain don't want tip your hand every time he's
in the on the you know, on the field. But
like you said Reggie Bush was so electric at it,
and I think, I mean he's not.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
Listen, Ergie Harvey's not Richie Bush.
Speaker 1 (30:27):
But I'm just saying like he has been electric in
the passing game out here.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
Yeah, like he can he can play that role. And
so that's the thing you can.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
You can you can start off a gun two back
and get that guy out into the slot and.
Speaker 2 (30:37):
Do things with it. It's you know, I think there's
a there's a role certainly for R. J.
Speaker 3 (30:43):
Harvey still not you know, as you look at some things,
still not exactly the world's most natural runner. And I'm
hoping that that will pick up as he continues to
get more and more reps at running back instead of quarterback.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
You know, this this carries on, but for.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
Right now, Dobbins is RB one and Coleman is I
would suggest it's probably RB two in terms of running back.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
But there is definitely a role for Harvey.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
On the text line, isn't your fault for betting on
a quarterback who is obviously gonna be bench to hang
up and listen?
Speaker 2 (31:08):
I mean that is a good point.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
Well he I mean, yeah, you know, I mean the
point here, hatred is so deep, you intentionally sabotage yourself.
You know there's a bigger lesson here, I think for
you and your life. Then we're gonna couch. We got
to couch laid out over here. We can we can
take a nap, right now, we do it.
Speaker 3 (31:26):
Nap after all that, I mean, watch me, That's how
little it affects me's pumpet, right, And I am no.
I mean the thing about that was it was meant
to be a funny bit because we all knew that
Jackson Dart was gonna be the guy at some point,
and so my whole bit was, Russ can score like
five touchdowns in three games and that'll be enough for
the half a season that Justin Fields is going to
(31:47):
be in there. And to be honest with you, if
Russ had played that many games.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
It would have been.
Speaker 1 (31:53):
All I keep hearing is you knew that this was
a reach, but your hatred for Justin Fields sucks.
Speaker 3 (31:59):
He sucks out well here, he sucks out loud.
Speaker 1 (32:05):
You Okay, you just really don't You're not you just
don't get started style.
Speaker 2 (32:09):
I'm sorry. It was just who's he starting for now?
I'm sorry it's starting for Anybody's all right, we might
see him on a football No, I know we're not
gonna see him, but.
Speaker 1 (32:18):
If anybody can rehab him, I mean, you think about
any read.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
I appreciate you guys and your coverage here on a
Saturday morning. Great work, Thank you very much, appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
Uh this one, would you guys consider any O wa
Aser Requez such a breakout candidate this year?
Speaker 2 (32:33):
He missed a year worth of development.
Speaker 1 (32:34):
With the gambling issue and finally seems to have a
chance to get an extended opportunity as a JAFM replacement. Well,
I mean you heard Malcolm Roach talking about he's unblockable. No,
I started as d J. Jones said that he's unblockable.
I'd say that's actually pretty dang accurate. He's looked phenomenal.
Speaker 3 (32:49):
Yeah, I've been talking about a NonStop actually uh he
you know, And I was sort of asking before training
camp started, and I was asking some of these the
coaches on staff, like all right, well with JFM, as
we were looking at a rotation, who's the guy, who's
the guy you're hoping who's the guy that's already the guy?
And uh resoundingly was a Rique is absolutely the big
(33:09):
four in terms of the defensive lineman or Zach Allen,
DJ Jones, Uh, Malcolm Roach and it Waza Rique and
and so you know that that was the thing that
everybody else there's a gap between them and everybody else.
And so, uh, he's come out here and certainly proven that.
What what a sort of redemption story there, I think too,
you know, the guy who was on the cusp maybe
getting cut because of the gambling stuff, you know, doing
bets from the parking lot on the app or whatever.
(33:30):
And then you know, now he's you know, he's back
out here. It's cementing himself and you know, he could
be a household name by the end of the year
with the you know, if he winds up being the
starter out there.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
I'm with you on that.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
And it also goes to show you what they thought
and not to be down on JFM, because they actually
thought very highly of him. Well, they thought about their
death right like they they believed, these are the guys
we have to keep, we gotta keep Zack Gallan. Obviously
they felt like they needed to keep DJ Jones. I
think going into last year's free agency most of us
didn't think he was and back yeah, they kept they
kept him and then they paid Malcolm Roach as well.
(34:03):
They said, these are the guys that we're gonna go
ahead and pay. And we think the depth with Savian
Jones was just a draft picked last year in wiser
Rique who's currently out here, and then they dropped to
Tyler and yet I think he's made some nice plays
as well.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
Has But I mean that's I think because I think
DJ be going after.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
This year, and I think, you know, then you'll have
Alan Roach and Lazo Rique and then you got you're
trying to work savy on Jones.
Speaker 2 (34:24):
And Alan I tell you that that was my accident.
Put it all together right then, you this is we
got layers shout out.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
You know.
Speaker 3 (34:32):
I think that that positions them nicely as kind of
a next man up.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
Keep the turner Berg going.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
But it cost controlled options because you're gonna have to
pay bo here soon.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
Let's see here there's a lot of texts. Ben.
Speaker 1 (34:45):
Can you talk about cap space. Can they roll all
the money forward?
Speaker 2 (34:49):
What's the plan? I think they have about thirty seven
million right now. They can roll it all for it.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
So with the cap the thing about it, you have
to have a five year rolling average of ninety three
percent of cap, so they have to the some numbers
that you have to hit in terms of your actual
spend every year, which is why you see some of
these weird bonus roll you know, not just for the
Broncos but other teams, like all of a sudden, they'll
just accelerate a bonus or something in order to make.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
That work the money work.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
So yeah, you have to do that, but for for
without getting into the minutia, for practical purposes, they can
roll the cap space forward and they likely will. Now
there's one signing and we've been waiting on it for
a while. I think everybody knows now with the Taysom
Hill thing that if he comes out here and gets
gets checked out and all that, there's there's one signing
that could could occur. But the rest of that is
pretty much done. And this is really maneuvering to make
(35:37):
sure that you can either extend guys by moving bonus
money into this year or roll that cap forward for
next year. Because Bonex is going to cost you fifty
five plus million per year, probably sixty plus million per
year on that contract, and they're going to have to
get that done.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
It's just the cost to do business.
Speaker 3 (35:54):
Yeah, I mean Trevor Lawrence, and and and you know
Purdy and those guys, you know Jordan law those guys
are all making fifty five million dollars a year.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
That's that's the cost of doing business. Now next next
quarterback contracts are all going to be sixty million per
I don't have a problem with that.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
Well, it's gonna tell it if it puts a hamper
in well, a lot of teams, it puts a hamper
in your ability to construct a roster. However, the Broncos
have a lot of talented depth. It's on with the deals. Oh,
by the way, you got the wealthiest owners in football,
so that if you can do, if you can do
bonuses to use cash to circumvent the cap, the Broncos
in a very advantageous position, which is exactly.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
What they're going to do. So that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
What I was trying to say is I don't have
a problem with it because of the way this team
is designed constructed and the ownership you have in place.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
And also again, if.
Speaker 1 (36:36):
He plays to the level that you feel good about
giving him that contract, what's the difference.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
Anyways, until the.
Speaker 1 (36:42):
League decides to pop the bubble on quarterback contracts because
it doesn't seem like that's happening anytime soon. Then you
just you just know that this is part of the
deal and you want to get it done as soon
as possible. Whatever people think about, well, wouldn't it be
great to see one more year, Well yeah, if he
has like a CJ. Stroud kind of close out to
his season where he falls apart the playoffs, and maybe
there's a little bit of discussion there. That's why they're
(37:03):
waiting there in Houston. But here in Denver, if he
plays like he's been playing by the week, by the
way kyries Rowan out here, the locks man that is,
that is outstanding.
Speaker 2 (37:13):
That is a that is a walking plus. It's good
to have the hairback.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
But the one is if he plays a commission to
the level of getting that contract, and nobody should bet
an eye. I mean, people will have whatever feeling they
have about contracts being able to pay out the quarterbacks
in that kind of mine.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
And in two years it'll be cost effective.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
Anyway, get it done now two years, it'll be lapped
by the next year.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
Five contracts.
Speaker 1 (37:33):
Don't wait like that's the dumbest thing that people think
is like, well, let's wait.
Speaker 2 (37:37):
C J.
Speaker 1 (37:37):
Stroud has kind of forced them in a position to
want to wait because they don't know if they have
the guy.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
They'll say they have the guy, but let's be honest,
if they.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
Had the guy, they pay him, they would already paid
him because by next year, when you're thinking about doing this,
how many other contracts have happened? And listen for for Bonix,
he's in a draft class with Caleb Williams, Drake May,
Jayde Daniels, who are all.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
Going to get paid.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
You're going to get both contract done before those accelerate
the process.
Speaker 2 (38:03):
And you know, Bow of course wants to sit back
and be like, no, let's let those contracts get done.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
And every baby so you know, you know, you jump
on it as fast as possible, right, I mean the
day after the season.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
But that's obviously cost only goes up, that's right.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
So I imagine we'll get some hot takes between now and
then and then towards the end of the season. I mean,
even on Broncos reacting on people having different opinions about
bon Nicks, Bonex is a winner. I mean until proven otherwise.
I don't have to entertain other takes well wins and the.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
The rubric by which you look the lens which you
look through quarterbacks through is uh. You know, rookie, I'm
not sure about this guy. Uh, I think we can
win with this guy. We win because of this guy,
and bo Nix has proven that he's in that in
that last category, which is where you.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
Want to be. That's the the we win because of
this guy, not you know, we can win with this guy.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
And we saw that with all the fourth quarter comebacks
and bow digga deep and and bringing the team back. Now,
was he aided by the fact that they had a
good defense and kept the score low.
Speaker 2 (39:04):
Sure, but when it came down to it, he made
the plays.
Speaker 1 (39:07):
He did consistency. Oh my god, what that Jonah Coleman
trying to kick a field goal? Hilarious?
Speaker 2 (39:14):
Well, yeah, coach, there was Yeah, it was like walking
up through a.
Speaker 1 (39:18):
Technique and yeah, Jodah Coleman, the more he can do, right, Yeah,
it's like I'm gonna be on every team on the backup.
Speaker 2 (39:24):
All right, hold on, we the you had the safety.
Speaker 1 (39:27):
I can't get played by play, but yeah, Jonah Coleman
is is attempting field goals.
Speaker 2 (39:31):
Oh yeah, oh that one is good. That's good. Oh
yeah yeah the first one, first one he topped.
Speaker 1 (39:37):
Yep, it was like reminds me of like my first
swing out of the range. And then the next one. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (39:41):
Here having a good time out there though. That was good. Yeah.
The more he can do kicking him from the ten
yard line, right, all right, I have a teen yard
field goal. Jonah Coleman. H right, Jordah Coleman, I'm here
for it.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
We need if we need a backup extra point guy,
if will Let's goes down.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
I mean, the problem is that that's not even uh
because extra points or I mean, yeah, that's I'm.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
Just saying that would have cleared an extra point.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
Yeah, but you know, you know the pass rush it Wait,
it doesn't matter a couple of texts here.
Speaker 2 (40:09):
The Broncos d is the winner.
Speaker 1 (40:11):
They are, and listen they are, but you still have
i mean, the score backs.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
Just because another team holds you down, you still got
to score.
Speaker 1 (40:17):
And the compliment too, right, I mean the Broncos we
were kind of bottom tier and takeaways, but the Broncos
offense still scored like pretty effectively off of those takeaways.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
Last year, and.
Speaker 1 (40:31):
Your said, are right, you got to get the stop,
But then the offense has got to go back out
there and they've got to close as well.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
So we listen for that. Texter.
Speaker 1 (40:40):
If you watch Broncos football over the last decade or so,
you know what it looks like when the Broncos defense
is elite and the offense can't do anything.
Speaker 2 (40:48):
Hey, it'd be great if the.
Speaker 1 (40:49):
Defense could hold them to fifteen points, because that's all
I think the offense is capable of scoring. We lift
through that era. We're beyond that now. So now you
have this belief that the defense knows, hey, we do
get a stop, us what the offense they're gonna they're
gonna back us up. Yeah, so it works hand in hand.
But to the Texas point, to other people's point, this
gets held against bone Nicks all the time.
Speaker 2 (41:09):
Yeah, and it's I mean, you know, last year you
had the defense is holding teams to eighteen or less.
You know, the majority of it.
Speaker 3 (41:15):
I had a couple of games where they didn't have
but most of the time, and so your your question
for your offense is can we score twenty one? Well,
you know the bar has been cleared on that and
this year, the internal challenges twenty four game. Anything less
than that, you know, like twenty four a game, the
offense needs to hold whatever the defense is doing. We
still got to get to twenty four plus a game.
So that that's their internal like you know kind of thing,
(41:35):
and that obviously they'd like to get to thirty game,
you know, all that kind of stuff, but internally, that's
the way they look at this. It's like, if we
get if we get twenty four point, we should never
lose if we get twenty four points.
Speaker 2 (41:44):
And they were right around that last year. I think,
uh what I mean last year the internal number was
like twenty one because the defense was doing eighteen.
Speaker 1 (41:49):
But yeah, yeah, they averaged twenty three point six. Yeah,
but it'd be some of those, some of those that's
fourteenth in the league. Some of those were pouring on,
you know points in Yeah. And then you have the
Raiders Thursday Night gear which was a ten to seven game.
I mean that that those games, Cha Jets, the Jets
game which was brutal.
Speaker 2 (42:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (42:07):
Yeah, And that's the thing, like the consistency, like I'm
not gonna debate or or I won't tell you you're
wrong about needing Bonus to be more consistent, like I
mean leading the league in three and outs, Yeah, being
the fourth worst offense in the league in three and
out in punts as a percentage of plays, Like one
out of four times you.
Speaker 2 (42:28):
Took the field, you had a three and out in
a punt. No. No, I mean that's not good enough.
Speaker 1 (42:33):
So if Bonus can improve some of those numbers, improve
some of his consistency, I mean, certainly, Like I just
I'm wondering, who's gonna have problems then with what we're
doing here? And if you want to try to measure
him against some of the elite quarterbacks in the league
as far as like what Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes
or Lamar Jackson or Joe Burrow end up doing, I mean,
(42:53):
that's up to you. But the fact is that there's
only one of those each individual players, and and the
rest of the league would love to have one of
those guys. But if you can get somebody in the
top sixteen, like legitimately somebody in the top sixteen, you
have a chance to win.
Speaker 3 (43:07):
A Super Bowl, right You just gotta you know, you
need to be top half of the league in terms
of productivity but there's also like with bo, it's situational,
like like we talked about earlier, with that gamer, you said,
you call it a gamer, and that's whatever the term
you want to use is like when the when you
absolutely gotta have it, he makes those plays, you know,
And and yes, we would love to see them start hotter.
(43:28):
We would love to see more consistency early Shirt certainly,
but when they absolutely gotta have it, he was making plays.
Speaker 2 (43:35):
So he says, fifty five million for the seventeenth ranked quarterback.
Speaker 3 (43:38):
Well, you know you're salty ranked by whom? Those ranking stuff.
That's all subjective nonsense.
Speaker 2 (43:43):
I don't you know. I'm not I don't get concerned
with that. Like can you do you do you? Can
you win games with the guy? Or do you win
games because of the guy? And we win games because
of the guy?
Speaker 3 (43:52):
Now, yes, you win games because of the bedp defense too,
but at the quarterback position, that's the question. And if
you win games because of the guy, you pay him.
Speaker 2 (43:59):
No text here, how do players practice tackling? Does that
not matter? At this level?
Speaker 1 (44:03):
Coaches sometimes say we need to tackle better? No, I
mean they do practice.
Speaker 3 (44:06):
It's tough to it's tough to really get as much
tackling practice you want with modern CBA. So you know,
they hit the dummies and they try to do technique
work and stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (44:14):
You just you just do what you can. You do
what you can as best you can.
Speaker 3 (44:17):
And and and try to you know, emphasize that in
the spots that.
Speaker 1 (44:20):
You're available to do those things because you can't tackle
to the ground out here here. It's your own teammates.
That's that's how some invies are gonna happen. But yeah,
there there's tackling dummies. As you said, there's there's definitely
drills you could do, and that's why, hey, in the preseason,
some defensive players want to get out there and get
a chance to sharpen those tools because yes, absolutely, you
see the teams that don't get that the first few
(44:42):
games of the season, they're they're building those taluses.
Speaker 2 (44:44):
They're they're trying to figure out how.
Speaker 1 (44:46):
To do some fundamentals and take better angles and tackle
better and and you guys know, if you watch football
at all, you know that a team that as bad
as tackling is gonna lose some heartbreaking games.
Speaker 2 (44:57):
Yep, all right, we're uh kind of scanning field we
got some of that. By the way, I saw my
guy at Keen Butler moments ago. That is a that's
a man right there. He's so awesome. Dude, tell me
we got that that drop. Just hang on to that
one now and I'm gonna we're gonna put that in
the BCT folder for later. Yeah. That guy, that guy,
I guess a rock star.
Speaker 1 (45:16):
I'm hoping I'm homb he shows out in the preseason
forced the Broncos to make a decision there, Okay, yeah.
Speaker 2 (45:24):
Really this is like you're yeah, okay, let's say wait,
we all we all have our guys.
Speaker 1 (45:28):
You do.
Speaker 3 (45:28):
You are very much like when you when you go
to bed at night, is the heikeem Butler poster? Is
it on the wall or is it on the ceiling?
You can lay on your back and look up and
you know that the stars.
Speaker 1 (45:40):
You know.
Speaker 2 (45:40):
You just do this to me like you had like
the low door thing.
Speaker 1 (45:44):
Well you took you were the one that took the
two mental health days after he got traded. I did
not that that was coincidental. Looks like we kind of
Anthony you got in my eyes here, we're looking at
that kind of the same cast of like is.
Speaker 2 (45:59):
Luke Wattenberg bowls over there. Ye see the offense of
its line, I said mcglinchee. Whoa yep. Do you see
Luke Wattenberg yet? I do not see Wattenberg either.
Speaker 3 (46:12):
That doesn't mean we'll get a chance to we'll get
this count numbers here to the break.
Speaker 2 (46:15):
Yeah, I want to see Oh yeah, now I see him.
Yeah yeah, no helmet okay. And then Jalen Waddle have
you seen him yet? I'm guessing. I mean we're still
inside the four or five days, so it's not like
he's no.
Speaker 3 (46:28):
He's not scheduled to practice day all.
Speaker 1 (46:32):
Right, five six, six, nine zeros or KWA Commas Spirit

our tent our tent here at Broncos Park powered by
Common Spirit. I haven't a chance to the fan area.
Dave said, it's pretty cool, though it's been watered through there. Yeah,
I've been through there a couple times. It's fun, a
little fun.
Speaker 2 (47:31):
Are you. What's what's over there besides our tent. Well,
I mean they've got they got a little info tent.
They got our tent, they get they had another I've
not seen it today.
Speaker 3 (47:40):
They had another tent over there that was off to
the right during the week, but I'm not seeing it
over there right now.
Speaker 2 (47:45):
That was like a one of the cell phone sponsored things,
and we're doing some some fun.
Speaker 3 (47:49):
Stuff with that, like a food trucks over there. I
haven't seen a food truck over there. Doesn't mean there's not.
Speaker 2 (47:56):
By that time, you told Michael Cooper to produce you
some food.
Speaker 3 (47:59):
That was, uh, that might have been my most jerk line,
but also hilarious because he did.
Speaker 2 (48:04):
You're so proud of yourself. He did.
Speaker 3 (48:06):
He said, he said something and he's like, I was like,
what do you what do you do here? He's like,
I'm a producer. Why didn't you go produce me a sandwich?
Speaker 2 (48:11):
And he he did, actually did. The humblest guy ever. Yeah,
well I was, you know, I mean we were pantering,
but it was he actually did.
Speaker 3 (48:19):
He actually did. He walked over there and then I
felt like a you know, like a jerk. So you
were a jerk.
Speaker 1 (48:25):
I couldn't believe the audacity of you saying that. Somebody
asked any updates of Marvims. I see Marvin Mims, no pads,
no helmet, So he is not practicing it.
Speaker 3 (48:36):
He's not walking with any sort of noticeable limp or
g is uh you know, is this normal?
Speaker 1 (48:41):
So that's a fantastic news because sometimes with the soft
tissue stuff, you just don't know. Yeah, like you just
I mean, it could be any range of things. Now again,
you don't want to aggrevate. I now see Jaylen Wattle
out here. He doesn't have the uh, by the way,
not doesn't have the sleeve today on the left leg.
So and look at his gate, I mean he looks.
We're not doctors. We can't tell you orthopedic.
Speaker 2 (49:01):
Surgeon, doctor Ryan Edwards.
Speaker 1 (49:03):
No, it's not that, but I'm you know, we're just
trying to tell you what we're seeing. Two days ago
with Jalen Waddle, it was it was pretty pronounced. Let's
just say that. Yeah, And we were the only ones
saying that there's videos you can see. All right, one
hour down, we have two hours to go with you. You
keep sending texts in here five six six nine zero.
Ben is halfway through one point five monsters in one
(49:26):
point five monsters in. I mean, at this pace, you're
gonna be done, you know, but by eleven and then
you'll be a sleep by eleven thirty.
Speaker 2 (49:36):
I have to have you do like a lap. That'll
be good.
Speaker 3 (49:38):
Okay, I can't go to sleep yet. I gotta listen
back to myself to put myself to wait.
Speaker 2 (49:42):
No, that's not all right.
Speaker 1 (49:45):
We're live with Broncos Park powered by Commas Spirit for
day eight of Broncos training camp, Ryan which Benjamin, all right,
this is Kowa
