Speaker 1 (00:00):
Shouldn't.
Speaker 2 (00:00):
Benjamin Albright, Nick Ferguson, Zach Seger's here with you. Nick
is back from your vacation. I think it was Poconos. No, no, no,
it was anything but a vacation. Really quickly, really quickly.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
I would be.
Speaker 4 (00:17):
Remiss if I didn't mention anything about this big shout
out to my.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Father in law, Carl Thompson.
Speaker 4 (00:25):
Uh. And he passed away and we had a chance
to have a celebration of life.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (00:32):
Yes, And he was a great dude, great great man,
a great father figure to kind of emulate and try
to do the same thing with my kids as he's
done with my wife or something, and so it was.
It was great, great celebration. But glad to be back
here and the Manahai City and we have football coming
(00:55):
out of this weekend.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
We do have football coming up this week as the
Broncos will travel to take on the Atlanta Falcons. Right now,
the Broncos both teams dealing with a little bit of
injury issues. The Falcons can't seem to find an edge rusher.
The Broncos are running out of safety. So as Michael
Dieter was carted off today, Wattenburg's been hurt, his backup's
been hurt. You're getting down to it. If you're the
Denver Broncs. Now they do expect Wattenburg to be fine,
(01:18):
but they're running out of bodies for practice at this point.
And you can't have meaningful practice if you're watching the
center quarterback exchanges or saled the ball over the punter's head.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
But see, there's the biggest butt when it comes to
training kit. And it is often described as war of attrition, right,
but usually that's utilized for the military, right, But it
is kind of survival of the fittest, and it's very
difficult to get through a training can, right. And I
(01:47):
realized that just kind of watching how many guys were
getting injured, and it made me reflect on my career,
how blessed and lucky I was to play ten years,
even though I had my injuries in the latter part
of my career. But it made me think about that
whole concept of injury pro because people use that and
toss it out as player, Oh, he's his injury pro,
(02:08):
and I'm like, no player wants to get injured. And
so we've seen of the thirty two teams, guys get
injured and The Broncos were great last year. The medical staff,
the bubble you want to say they were in, or
the four leaf clover, whatever it was that gave them
that much luck. You have to think at some point
it runs out and you're seeing guys with just minor
(02:28):
injuries and we're talking about soft tissue injuries.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
So the injury bug is hitting the Denver Broncos right now.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
And like you said, it's it's hard to fill a
competitive team and you want to be able to do
that because a lot of these guys are competing for
jobs starting Thursday night, I mean Friday night.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Well, I mean they've already been competing for jobs, but
they're line like really really Yeah. I guess according to
you then that this has been the cert makes the
lot's favorite part of camp.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Yes, you said it was the biggest put I've already
got a head.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
Hey, I like big Bucks and I don't do not lie,
So that's the way to look at it, and.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
That's the biggest But yeah, I don't want to get
back into that a second. It's something weird today, do
you guys? Okay you is there a thing like with
adults eating baby food? You like to mashed up peas
and carrots and stuff like that. First of all, Zach
just shaking his head. I'm gonna say yes. And the
(03:31):
reason I'm gonna say yes, I did not. I did
not do all my kids were born. But when I
was in high school, my sister was with child and
she would have Gerber bananas and theirs. Okay, I would
eat them. I did not know this was a thing.
But apparently adults eat eat baby food sometimes.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
I had no cluse.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
Okay, well are we talking about like this split peas because.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Of it? Even the babies smoot peas.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
I'm not eating anyone.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
But I found out today that that adults do get
like the Gerber fruit stuff and you.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Just like randomly buy and then eat it.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Apparently it's delicious.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
I know, I know it's delicious, but I mean I
was eating because my sister.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
I would just get a pair.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
Well, but you you would actually go to supermarket and
just buy Gerber just to eat.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
I'm not buying that, but I've learned that there are
people that do.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
Interesting Now.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
I've never gone out and purchased the single jar myself
for me to.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Eat, but you have eaten the jar if it was around,
if it.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Was in the cupboard. It's fair game, yes, exactly, It's
fair day.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Learn something new every day.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Okay, that was what Sorry, I had to ask you
guys because it was a blowing my mind today as
far as the injury thing goes, like this is getting
to the point where it's going to be an issue.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
I mean, if, what if? What what do you do
about it?
Speaker 2 (04:51):
You gotta find a body, man, you gotta find bodies.
You're down three centers. You're you're already running throck boarting
in there right now as a center because Ortega couldn't
do it, the rookie couldn't do it.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
What else are you gonna do? Put cage Casey in there.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
College if not, If I'm not mistaken, and I think
cage Casey might have.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
Play the little played a little center Sody Quinn minors
Yes at this point, Like, I mean, you know, but
cage Casey's a guy you're looking to develop as a
guard for Ben Powers for the next few years.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Okay, you want to stunt that.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
You're not stunting a guy who already has the versatility.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
All all you're doing. You've ever seen that game?
Speaker 4 (05:27):
They do it all the time in New York that
they had there the three cups and they put a
ball or whatever it is, and they just shuffled around.
That's all le Broncos are doing. They're just shuffling things around.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
It too.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
There's some sense of normalcy when guys get healthy. So
you know kge Casey has the ability to do it.
It's in preseason, and if he fails, so what this preseason,
But at least he received the reps in a live
game situation, it's something that you can't replicate because there's
no joint practices. So this is the best opportunity for
him to get in there to show what he can do,
(05:59):
make the mistake, learn from them, and get better just
in case something happens.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Down the line.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
And at some point in the season. You know he
already has that experiency. You don't have to go outside
the building to get another guy to bring him in
and bring him up to speed.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
On a system.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
But they need to do that. I mean, they're out
of bodies.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
You've got Wattenberg, who we expect that, you have Forsyth
who's hurt, Eeter got carted off.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
Today or Tega couldn't do it. The rest of the
guys you have.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
Throck Morton's in there right now, but the rest of
the guys you have are basically offensive tackles, like almost
everybody you've got. Matt Perk's playing land left tackle. He
can't play center. You can't put a guy that tall
as center. Frank Crum can't play center. They can't Tashowsky.
I don't think he could play center. So you've got
basically your options are throck Morton and Casey because Carjulio
is hurt, and that's it.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
You really don't have any right now, hold on, now,
hold on, now, I know this sounds crazy.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Move minus the center, put Casey in right guard.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
I mean you could do that if you if you
wanted to. That's the strong possibility. Now.
Speaker 4 (06:58):
Now, Nate Atkins is not a big body, right, but
he's used to blocking.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
You can't put Nate.
Speaker 4 (07:05):
I'm just saying that we're thinking of like the emergency,
emergency situations, and that in that situation when you put
Mitchell Ferboni in there, at least lost but if you
feel as though he can do that. But I at
this point, and we're talking about the worst of the
worst situations for the Denver Broncos in a live game situation,
I would trust Nate Atkins a little more because he's
(07:27):
used to blocking.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
Right.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
He's not a massive body, but the idea is that
you have pounds. I get it right, small job to
be fair and.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
To be fair.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Mitchell Ferboni's not a big guy either, He's like two
undred and thirty exactly.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
So so what we're suggesting is the worst case scenario
for the Denver Broncos.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
But there are several.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
Guys who they have who are healthy that they need
to throw in at the center position. They may be
these guys may not be used to playing the center position,
but this is the best time.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
Then it's a pre season.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
We haven't got to the regular season where every single
game matters.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
You can waste a couple of these games, a couple.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
Of these performances just to get a guy out there
on the field, to give him the live in game reps. Well,
he can call out plays, he can learn to call
out blitzes, even though we're not going to see that
many and the preseason. But I would say, with the
situation being what it is, I'm damn sure not putting
bow knicks out there. You got those two other quarterbacks,
(08:29):
Sam Ellinger and Jared Sinam. Let them those guys be
the test subjects. We're not putting both voe in that situation.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Doesn't that hampers or hinders what it is you're trying
to do because you literally cannot run your offense with
those guys out there.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
You can't risk boll getting hurt, which means you can't
run your office.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
You can't get meetingful reps in practice because you can't
you know, you can't do that with a guy who's
who's watching quarterback hold.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
If I'm not mistaken, they have The Broncos are paying
someone as a quarterback. They're paying someone that's an officer
as office a line coach. Right, your job is to
get them prepared, That's what That's what you know. Bill
Parcells would say, Mike Shenahan would say, Way Phillis would say, your.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Job is to get them prepared.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Well, I mean, okay, but if there's no body to
get prepared, what are you doing?
Speaker 1 (09:19):
Okay, So we're talking about Nate Adkins and Mitchell for Bony.
Speaker 4 (09:22):
I know that's kind of ten to four a hat,
you know, worst case scenario situations. But the Broncos are
in preseason. Their first preseason game is not until Friday
against the Falcons.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
Like I said, you have time. You can go out
and look on other rosters, other.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
Guys that may have been in the system before that
may have been released by other teams. Try to bring
those guys in. But this is a situation that every
team is dealing with when it comes to this point
of the season. Now, at some point a couple of
weeks from now, all the NFL rosters is gonna have
to be trimmed down. They have to be trimmed down,
(10:00):
and they're always going to escalate the situation that the
Broncos have. So why not do it now when you
know what's gonna happen, right, Do it now?
Speaker 2 (10:09):
I mean frock Morton played as a red shirt junior.
He played I think two games, et cetera. That's experience,
is it not? He was He's the only FBS player
to make a start at four different offensive line positions
in the same season.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Okay, versatility and.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
I don't I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
To me, I just like the thing I start worrying
about is, Okay, are we getting quality reps in are
we losing the ability to practice because we can't then.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
But then if you don't put these guys in, you're
not get you're not getting in quality practice or.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
Look anyway, that's what I'm getting. But if you have
them in and the you're not getting the rep, then
what are we doing?
Speaker 3 (10:45):
Look what you can do. You can change up your
practice schedule.
Speaker 4 (10:50):
Because your centers may not have as much experience with
the system on on the NFL level. In this particular scheme,
you can do a lot of seven oh seven work
because within that you're still working on quarterback center exchange.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
I guess, but I mean no, no, no, get no,
it's I guess you all. I'm just saying, long term,
if Wattenburg gets hurt, I don't know, like the for
ninth injury, we don't know how long that's gonna go on.
If Watburg gets hurt in a meaningful way, you're you're in.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
A bad way. We're looking at a bad way.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
And so like that, that's the question for me now
is like should we bring in an extra because so
much of the bodies that we have are guys that
are designed to be offensive tackle backups that can play
a little guard right, so many so much of the
depth of the offensive line on this team.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
That's what they are, that's what they are been.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
But you have no choice at this point.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Now you can sit here or the Broncos self loath
and cry about the injuries what you don't have, or
you can be proactive and trying to make something happen.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
Well again, that's what I'm saying, be proactive and bring
a body in.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
Well, yes, you want to bring a body in, but
start with the guys that you have in your building.
And the Broncos know well which of their guys are
currently sitting at the guard position. Maybe the guy may
even play tackle. Say okay, well, if you had any
experiences in this position being a center. If so, let's
get you out there. Let's start working with you with
(12:20):
the quarterbacks, because you need an emergency center. And the
Broncos have never been in this situation where you've had
this many guys injured at that one particular position.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
So you just need guys waiting in the wings.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
It's no different than you would do with any other
position on the field. And by the way, I would say,
when it comes to the offensive side of the ball,
I know everyone always looks at the starting quarterback as
being one of the more important guys, and yes, he
is important, he has significant amount of value. But the center,
the backup center, the backup quarterback, those are valuable positions,
(12:53):
and you don't really find out how valuable they are.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
So you find yourself in a situation.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
You can cross your fingers, leave cob in your pocket,
you know, knock on wooll. You can do all that,
but guess what injuries are gonna happen and you have
to be.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
A beer yeah, And they're just there aren't that many
bodies out there. Ryan Kelly, who I believe retired, dude injury.
You got Liam Eichenberg, I guess out there he's still
a free agent. Will Clapp who played for the Saints.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
That's about it.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
There's really not a whole lot of guys out there
that have much experience. Ricky Stromberg maybe play for the Bears.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
That's it.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
But you can go, I think, bring one of those
guys in, let them work through the process as the
Broncos go through the preseason. Meanwhile, some of the guys
who have already been there, you put them in that position.
And and here's the crazy thing about the game. Sometimes
you never find out what your true your true spot
is until you push to the break.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
Because I was a corner in college.
Speaker 4 (13:59):
I played corner in safety and even in high school. Right,
But the idea was that, well, Nick, you're too aggressive
at the corner position and then you probably run into
some issues where some of these receivers will be a
lot faster than when you faced on a collegiate level.
So guess what, against my better judgment, I didn't want
to do it, right. I thought it was kind of
(14:20):
a disrespect to stop and face to me. But a
switch position, it was the best thing that ever happened
to me. So there could be some value that comes
out of the situation for either of these guys on
the Broncos roster, who can show that they are mister
versatility that keeps you in the league a long time.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
If there's somebody, Yeah, if there's somebody there. As far
as that kind of stuff cool, I just don't know.
I mean, I'm look looking and I'm like Cage Casey
played a few games, Collin Throckmorton played a few games,
that's right, And minors had a couple of games. That's it,
And I'm not sure you want to move minors from
his old pro right guard spot in the center cage
Casey who you're developing to replacement powers next year. So
(14:59):
Throckmorton is the right now and he was the guy
in practice, but none of these guys has looked like
they're ready to play that position, and there have been
issues with the exchange, which means you're messing up the
reps that everybody's getting in practice.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
Yeah, but here's the thing, Ben, You're not looking for
these guys to be long term solutions and being your starter.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
You're looking for a spot duty.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
Can you come in in this moment of desperation and
fill in the gap until these other guys Wattenberg is back.
That's all we need you to do. Right, center quarterback
has changed? Master that first preseason. We're gonna set you up.
Why we're gonna work through some plays in practice.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
Right, give you.
Speaker 4 (15:41):
Easy blocking the arms, because we know most teams when
you start this thing off called preseason, they're not going
to want to show anything that they've done or they
plan on doing, the regular season.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
Right, You're that's gonna make things easier for you.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
You can't do that, But I'm saying, like the basics
are struggled like I'm seeing it, like the center exchange,
center quarterback exchange the problem and if that's a problem,
that messes up the rest.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
Of the rent.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
Man. Look, we got to deal with what we have
to deal with, right.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
You have an opportunity to take lemons and make lemonade.
Because this is not a seven o seven tournament. The
Broncos can't get out there against the Falcons on Friday
and said, well, we got some injuries, so uh hey,
can we.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
Go seven o seven? Can we turn this into flag football?
Hell no, it's a game of football, man, and.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
They're gonna have to figure that out.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
And that that, unfortunately, is the reality that we live in.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
Now.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
You're looking at a football team that has Super Bowl
aspirations and all of a sudden they shipped away.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
Now.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
JK Dobbins back out there today, looks just fine.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
Jaylen Waddle has been kind of you know on the
sideline o practice, but he looks fine. You know, most
of these other things look fine. We got a gaping
hole here at the center position. All three guys are
hurt right now, and I don't know what the Ben
okay and Deeter's not Deeterer got cart it off. He's
gonna be done.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
I get it.
Speaker 4 (16:57):
But this is the stuff that dre are made of.
How many teams that we've seen that made championship runs
had experienced some form of adversity. They had to overcome
all of them, right, all of it. The Broncos didn't
really experience a lot of it last year. They were blessed.
So now they're getting in at the beginning, and it's
only going to make the team better. You know why,
(17:20):
because it builds caraderie. It forces players to get outside
of their conference zone and be better than what they are.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
And also, here's the art of the word. I know
Coach Payton loves it.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
It builds callous I'm here for camaraderie. I'm here for confidence,
I'm here for next. Massage is not a believer.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
If you have someone with my talent level to the
center position, it doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (17:40):
You're going to lose.
Speaker 4 (17:42):
That's been It's okay. If the Broncos were to lose
every single game. No, okay, I know, Zach, Zach, you
love stats. I'm sure you got there's a stat you
can pull up on the computer. We've seen over the years,
even when I play, we've seen teams go undefeated in
the preseason and what the band and the regular season.
(18:03):
We've seen teams not win a game in the preseason
and guess what, they go on a playoff run. Right,
So if the Broncos were to lose every single preseason game,
I'm not worried about it's about it's about development, So
who cares. It's about surviving and getting to that first
gautlet of games.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
But the Bronco I'm here for that. I'm not saying.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
And to be honest with you, the final score in
the preseason game doesn't matter or never has. The The
question is more about what's this team, the health of
this team at the center position throughout the season. If
already all three of them are hurt, Now you expect
your starter back before the start of the season, But
if all three of them are hurt and the third
stringer's done, and he's gonna be done for the year,
(18:44):
so you're gonna have to figure something out because people
are gonna pick up over a season two.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
That's gonna happen. This is where depth comes in. This
is where George Peyton and his scouting apartment have to
go to work do their job. It's the next man
up mentality. You do whatever you can and to fill
that void. But it's about surviving to get to the
regular season and surviving that that is the point of emphasis.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
Well, we survived our first segment BCT. We'll be back
after this. Welcome back to a Rockles Country.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
Tonight ends with already Nick Ferguson short show pre Rockies
Edition Rockies coming up top of the hour, Chicato on
the bump fow of the Rockies.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
Brat will be throwing.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
For the d back Spratt three ninety one, one twenty
one K's Chicao has been the bright spot on the
Rockies pitching staffour to five one eleven and five sixty
one K's on the season.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
We'll see how that one comes out.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
Five six, six times zero of the text line the
six two Ben's been chomping at the bit, it's actually
champion at the bit.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
Guys.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
Uh for this situation to arise, calm down, will be okay.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
Talk about the center position.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
I'm not I'm not eager for that to happen, but
I did suggest that you know, when Forsyth went down, like, hey,
we may have a little bit of a depth issue here.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
Well, what Deeter went down today.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
We definitely have a depth issue now, and it's something
I want to see addressed and know what the plan
is for this team going forward. This is a Super
Bowl aspirant, this is a a you know, a championship
caliber football team, and we've got a serious problem right
there at the heart and soul of the offensive line.
So that's where that comes from. And I promise you guys,
(20:20):
it is champing at the bit, not chomping at the bit.
Although although that idiom has become a saying just by
popular demand, because so much, so much that.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
It became a thing, it is a thing.
Speaker 4 (20:33):
Well, what's not a thing, Benjamin, is the fact of
this issue with the center position and quarterback to center
exchange is so valuable and so important. And I'm going
to say, if there was any position that you feel
as though that I feel personally that was easibly easily replaceable,
(20:53):
it would be the center position.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
Right.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
That's not saying that we can just get some any
guy off to street to play that position, but it's
not one of those positions where you say, okay, well,
it's like losing Courtland's son, It's like losing bo Nix.
If you will, because that center is blanked by two
(21:16):
guards on either side. And this is why it's important
for the quarterback to understand pressure and how the defense
is trying to attack, because the center has to point
it out himself. But also is important for the quarterback
to understand where pressure is coming from because he too
can check a play, go out of one play into
(21:36):
another play, so he can eliminate the pressure off of
that center.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
But I don't look at it as dire as maybe
you look at it.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
I'm not trying to freak out like some other radio
people in town. I'm just saying there's a glaring hole
here and I don't know what the plan is. And
to me, you know, we talked about this all summer.
The one thing that could derail this thing is probably injury,
and we're sorting we're sort of seeing quite a few
injuries here in the in the preseason now. They haven't
been by and large serious, but we've seen guys get
(22:09):
dinged up that are that we don't want to see
get dinged Yeah.
Speaker 4 (22:12):
But Ben, did you have guys that you can put
in like stop gaps? I mean, we just talked about
case Casey can go into that position. Maybe Quinn Quinn
minus could go, you can put in that position. If
the Broncos didn't have any guys, I would be right
there on the ledge with you. But I'm not because
I know you can mix and mingle in and put
(22:34):
guys in different positions.
Speaker 2 (22:35):
I'm not out on the ledge, but I'm at the
window looking at the ledge.
Speaker 1 (22:38):
That's where I'm at.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
Well, I'm in the room looking at you.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
I'm not Zach Segers. I'm not down in a gallu
of bleach right now. You know, like the meme, I.
Speaker 4 (22:47):
Don't even believe Zach. Don't you see how you t
to pull trying to show you right into that crazy
crazy I'm not. It's not wet blanket Seegers.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
No, it's not.
Speaker 4 (23:03):
You know what.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
That's the thing about spleach trink excuse.
Speaker 4 (23:06):
That's the one thing about someone going crazy. They want
to pull someone else in there because they don't be
crazy by themselves. And that's exactly what Ben is trying
to do. He's trying to pull you into this theory that,
oh my god, this guy is falling.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
No, the hell's not.
Speaker 5 (23:19):
And I'll say, big picture, I do think there's some
reason for concern. Obviously, it's not ideal. I think this
offensive line can hold up for a week or two
or three in case of emergency, with Quinn Miners at
center and cage Casey at guard. They're planning on having
cage case start for you twelve months from now. Anyways,
he's going to be one of those top backup swing
(23:42):
guard options. Anyways this year, I think that's viable. Or
even Pauchow inside and you're bumping Quinn Miners into center.
He talked today about how regularly he works at improving
that center craft just so it's there in case the
Broncos need to lean on it. I'd put it to
the test if if push came to shove.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
Interesting, I won't panic on that too much more, but
I did want to address the texture there and get
to that.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
I don't know if you guys saw this story.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
A high school football player Maumel, Arkansas, practiced last Thursday
for nearly an hour with a cottonmouth snake in his helmet.
The Associated Press and local KATV report on the incident. Today,
local Animal Services shared a video of the viper's capture
from the helmet the player foot long. The player escaped
being bitten and is apparently fine outside of what was
(24:31):
surely unexpected scare.
Speaker 1 (24:34):
Part of the associated press.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
Mammel High School student felt movement inside his helmet during
practice and alerted an assistant coach.
Speaker 1 (24:40):
That's so, the two foot snake was.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
Discovered hiding out beneath the padding inside the helmet.
Speaker 1 (24:45):
Police were called to the scene too.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
Address was an initial report of a copper head inside
the helmet, but it was not a copper head.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
It was a cotton mouth, both snakes or venomous.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
Good an effort to force the snake out of the helmet,
they submerged it in a tub of water, but the
cotton mouth, also known as a water moccasin, as a
semi aquatic snake and was in no hurry to leave
its cozy cone fines. It eventually poked its head out
of the water and officer captured it with a grabber tool.
All Melanimal Services, which also called the scene, posted a
video of the capture. You could see that on social
media that the ABC News affiliate has there as well.
(25:17):
The on the scene Chris Davis, who's the director of
all Mal Animal Services, said if the snake would have
bit him, it probably would have been fatal cotton mouse
and the second most venomous of the six venomous snake
species found in Arkansas. The others are include the copperhead
and three species of rattlesnakes, as well as the Texas
Gulf Coast coral snake sometimes found in southern Arkansas.
Speaker 1 (25:41):
Davia said, you'd never seen anything like it.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
I removed a snake out of a car vent in
the engine pursu's backpacks, but a football helmet.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
Never.
Speaker 2 (25:47):
You had to be there and take pictures to believe
it for yourself. What would you do if you had
a water market you had a cotton mouth in your
football helmet.
Speaker 5 (25:54):
I don't know how he practiced or warmed up with
it on his head for like you said, nearly an hour.
I read that story too. It's crazy.
Speaker 4 (26:02):
Wait wait, snakes are warm blooded animals.
Speaker 3 (26:06):
Sold blood are the cold blooded.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (26:09):
So I was thinking at first, maybe because the snake
was in the helmet and things were, you know, heating up,
maybe impacted to the snake where.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
It was starting to way. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
It obviously fit in between the padding inside the helmet,
wrapped up in top. So when you put the helmet
on it probably like just fit flushed or he couldn't
really get down to that portion of it.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
That's a fair man.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
As the snake was trying, you know, warming up as
it got hotter and hotter, the snake was probably trying
to figure out a way out and started moving, and
the players feeling something going on at his scalp up
there and freaking out, like, am I you know what's
going on?
Speaker 1 (26:42):
It's terrified.
Speaker 5 (26:43):
I can't imagine because that's a big snake and and
a really deadly one too.
Speaker 1 (26:48):
If that did go wrong, it could have gone real,
real wrong.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
Yeah, we we used to have like out where I
lived at arts, we had water boxes all the time.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
We have to we have to kill them and shoot them.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
Well, that gives a whole different meaning for you know
when people used to say if it were a snake,
it was yes, it was.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
Didn't buy it was just it was crazy.
Speaker 4 (27:07):
Man.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
I was like, I'm watching this video, I'm like, this
is insane that this thing was in there.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
For an hour.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
You know what it reminds me of.
Speaker 4 (27:13):
I don't know if you guys seen this movie back
in the nineties, movie called a rich Inophobia. Oh yeah,
where with the spiders, and the spiders were climbing into everything,
and there was a scene.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
They could like fly Man, they jump across the room.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
They would jump and then and it was scene in
the movie where the spider had crawled into a player's
helmet and it bit him and he passed away on
the field. So the whole idea is you want to
make sure that you actually look at your equipment and
you're careful where you place it because most people, I mean,
you know, you don't expect something hanging up.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
With the locker, you know, but those snakes they can climb,
so you know they in fact, the water boxes will
get up in trees and sunbathe.
Speaker 1 (27:53):
You gotta watch out sometimes.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
Low low hanging branches if you're out on the if
you're out of the lake around and the buyo or something,
you got to watch out with the low hanging branches.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
We'll have see now.
Speaker 4 (28:01):
I'm checking everything. This is why when you go commando,
you don't have to worry about any of that stuff.
YEA worry about snake's calling it.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
I think you do have to worry about that.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
You have to be more.
Speaker 5 (28:11):
I feel like you've you're using protection, you're losing h
layer of protection.
Speaker 4 (28:17):
Yeah, it's the thidd layer of gabbered in between you
and you see then you you know what layer is
between you and everything else? Why your under layers between
me and you right now?
Speaker 1 (28:29):
And I'm not commando.
Speaker 4 (28:31):
I'm just saying, man, hey, live wow, live free. That's
all I'm saying. Freedom to fifty?
Speaker 1 (28:38):
How are you saying? I'm just saying checking the traveling
with Christopfen What about Trembroco's country Tonight?
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Taking it up to the top of the hour for
coverage of Colorado Rockies baseball? Is the Colorado Rockies take
on the Arizona Diamondbacks can be a seven forty first
pitch got against Bratt as the pitchers, and she's been
kind of a bright spot for the Rockies this year
at the ra four or five ones a little high,
but eleven wins, five losses.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
And what an addition he has been for the Rockies
is a pitcher this year.
Speaker 4 (29:15):
Yeah, that's been great to get that type of production
out of him. And I'll say this has been even
though right now, which fans are maybe a little down
on the Rockies right now, I think with deeper Desta
being in the team will find itself in a different
trajectory and time patience. It's something that most fans have
(29:40):
a difficult time dealing with because you watch so many
other teams like the Dodgers, constantly win game after gaming.
You wonder when is your team going to have an
opportunity to turn that corner. But I really believe that
the Rockies organization will do it, will do that. And also,
if I'm not mistaken, I think Veen is back for
(30:02):
the team. I know he was in Triple A with Albuquerque,
but he was one of their top prospects and apparently
he was doing a great job in Triple A and
they decided to kind of bring him up. So it's
gonna be interesting to see, uh, you know, his development,
how things work out with him.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
Yeah, it has been an interesting year for pitchers here
for the Rockies. I mentioned Chicanoh's eleven and five. No
other current Rockies pitcher has more than four wins. Censtello
was the next closest at nine and two on the season.
Felder has four wins. The rest of the team, you
got Freelom with three, Lorenzo with three, Mahio with three,
Bardadino with three, Dollander with three and on down the list.
(30:45):
That's just fascinating to me. You have one player, one pitcher,
that has double digit wins on the season. The next
highest guys at four wins.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
Okay, but how do you fix that? If you're the Rockies,
how do you fix.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
Devilsion hitching talent?
Speaker 2 (30:56):
I mean they went out and got Lorenzen who who
frankly belongs to the bullpen. Kyle Freeland has just never
gotten back.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
To what he was.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Feldler is a four and six and has had some
some some spots where it looked okay, but it's not.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
It's not there.
Speaker 4 (31:10):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
King Tana was on the sixty day DL he went
two and three, So you didn't you know, you haven't
really figured out if he's gonna be he got hurt.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
Yeah, but that's been the biggest issue for the Rockies
for so many years.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
Dolander got hurt, got hurt starting pitching.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
Yeah, you're gonna have to They're gonna have to figure
that out. And that's that's what it's I mean, I trust,
I trust Paul Depodesta. I mean, bringing in Chicago, like
I said, was great, and he's been a bright spot
in that rotation. He's pitching a night, But otherwise it's
been it's been a littered with a lot of Man,
we hoped this was gonna go better.
Speaker 4 (31:39):
Well, the only thing you can do in this situation is, well,
you only have two outcomes. You draft guys and you
trade for guys. That that's the only thing that you
can do. But I think at this point there are
a lot of starting pitchers that when they become free
agents that Denver's not one of those places they want
to come right. Like, I mean, listen, course field, beautiful ballpark,
love the ball park, but the outfielders. So why pitchers like, look, man,
(32:02):
I'm not coming for that.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
I don't want to come out here and ruin my
era and you know all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
Yes, because everyone cares about their legacy and that that's
kind of a big issue. So this has been a
hole that the Rockies have had a difficult time trying
to fill in. Peel and deep Bodessa, bless his heart,
I don't know what he's going to do. The kind
of field is because it looks like you know with
Cole Carrot. They have some players, they have a couple
(32:29):
players here and there, but they need consistent pitching to
help them out. They help them win games, close out games.
They're not getting that from their bullpen.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
Yeah, and that's you know, I mean the Rockies that
that's gonna be a thing. The next two three years
are going to be about finding, developing, doing whatever it
takes to get the pitching, and then developing the hitting
talent that they believe in that they that they already have.
You know they would and they bring instead of trade Maniac,
you bring him back, Hunter Goodman.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
You didn't trade him.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
You got you got a superstar there, and you got
some young guys that look like they might be something
Cole carrig and McCarthy and Kyle Carross.
Speaker 1 (33:03):
If you can develop these guys, you might have a
little something.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
Colorado Rockies forty six and seventy three taken on the
Arizona Diving Back, sixty four and fifty six, Jack and
Zac on the Call nest Here on Ka
