Speaker 1 (00:00):
Mary Football Eve for the Never Broncos.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
It's the Broncos first preseason game tomorrow five pm.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
Kickoff.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Coverage starts right here at KOA at one pm with myself, yourself,
Nick Ferguson Zach Seekers.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Will be involved in multiple ways.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Looking forward to that. It's been an interesting day. By
the way, it is pronounced caramel.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Caramel.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Nope, it is caramel, says the Websters. Who cares what
Webster says? Funking wagonles Merriam Webster, Carlo, caramel, carmel, it's caramel.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
See, I gotta started right away.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
They were I don't know, apparently, I don't know exactly
how I stepped into how that started on the previous
show and what they they.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
Were talking about, how the preseason is going to be
a lot of vanilla luks, and then they're saying, maybe
you see a sprinkle of carmel in there, And then
Nate asked, Ryan, are you a caramel or a camel guy.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
I can't play back because I was like, it's it's caramel.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Well, it all depends on what part of the country.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Right, But the correct pronunciation is saying a caramel guy
or a caramel Oh, that's a great one.

Speaker 5 (01:13):
I would say Carmel, But there was a time in
my life I probably would have said caramel, caramel, Yeah,
but I've advanced beyond that now in my forties, I
feel like I don't have the time to to say
it's right, just get straight to it.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Carmel Ben definitely a caramel guy, right, they already knew.
I don't care what you call it all.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
I know. I'm great, that does.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
I was, Yeah, it was. It was just bappling to me.

Speaker 6 (01:39):
I was.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
I was listening to back and forth. There is some
of the stuff I get stuck on. It's been an
interesting day, A crazy thunderstorm out there.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Hope everybody's driving safe.

Speaker 6 (01:50):
You know what, here's something that was interesting about I
just pulled into the garage just in time, and then
it was this kind of gust of wind, and then
all our her was this teeter tattering on the roof,
and I'm like, uh, it is too early for Christmas.
And I know Sama is not on the roof delivering gifts.
But there were some gifts that Mother Nature gave us,

(02:11):
and those gifts.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
Were not good. They were like golf ball size.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
I didn't see. I didn't well I'm on the I'm
in a park of complex. I didn't see the hail.
I didn't see the hail on the roof. I didn't
see answer. But I certainly rained for quite some time,
and my dog decided she wanted to play in it.
So she went out on the balcony and it was
just playing in the rain, drenched, drenched, and look at it.
Me like, I don't understand the problem here.

Speaker 6 (02:32):
What if you tell you honest, rain has a very
soothing quality to it, more relaxing than sunny days, because.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Usually about everybody loved them rain the rain.

Speaker 6 (02:47):
I can stand the rain. I love the rain. But
here's the thing. You don't want too much of it,
like forty days and forty nights of it. You don't
want that much rain? Well, okay, noah, you don't want
that much rain and forty nights of rain. Actually, I
tell you what there was.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
I believe there was like some flooding back in Arkansas
one of the years I lived here. I think it
rained for like twenty something days straight, and that was insane.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
Someone's found the defends this pop now.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
But I was like, if you're doubling that, I mean,
that's that's ridiculous.

Speaker 6 (03:16):
Yeah, guess anything about living here in Colorado opposed to
living in Texas and New York, even Atlanta and Miami.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
I don't recall getting hall.

Speaker 6 (03:29):
Hall the size of golf balls that comes down like
like rocks, like someone's throwing rocks over a fence at you,
and it's coming down really hard, really fast.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
I I got caught out in a Hale situation one time.

Speaker 6 (03:47):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
It was with this girl and h her apartment and
she loves to go do so she had to run
the grocery store grab something. I don't know anyway, So
I'm down in her pool in the courtyard and the
storm just swept in and pow, this like Hale comes
out and popping guys, guys like bleeding out of his
face or whatever. Because it hit it pretty hard, and
it hit means a shoulder like ow, you know, and
so like I I didn't know what to do because

(04:08):
I think it's called run for cover, but there was
no I mean like I was gonna get machine gunned
down if I if I ran for cover.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
So I just was like trying to stay under as
much as like good.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
It felt like you're in a movie, you know, where
the where the bullets are coming down through the water.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
It felt like that.

Speaker 6 (04:26):
It's just kind of it was just sort of, this
is this is not saving Private Ryan. It's not that
type of movie. But that hell can do a lot
of damage. Because it ripped our screen on our windows.
It's like, dude, it looked like my wife said, you
gotta see this. And what it looked like was like

(04:47):
there was some grizzly bear that came through really angry
and just kind of scratched and clawed the screens. And
I'm like, no, this can't be from the hill. Hell,
yes it was. It was.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Oh well, it's hopefully we're not gonna have Obviously we
won't have any of that. Tomorrow's they'd be indoors in
Atlanta and the Dome Broncos taking on the Atlanta Falcons.
Team traveling today now, the entire team did not travel.
Those not playing didn't go with the team on this one.
They stayed back here in Denver. I thought that was
an interesting decision.

Speaker 6 (05:20):
That is very interesting because in all of my decade
long years playing in the NFL, every player travel. Now
if you had somewhat serious injury, Lord Lake injury and
a didn't once you standing up on the sideline, they
would kind of keep you back here in Denver for
rehab purposes. But everyone often traveled even if you did

(05:42):
not play. Some guys actually dressed up did not play.
But this is kind of uncommon for guys who are
not going to play in the game to leave them
at home because the reason I look at it like this,
you're trying to establish or maintain certain level of team Karateie.
There are a lot of guys who are gonna play

(06:03):
in the game tomorrow. Well, this could be their last opportunity, right,
so I'm like everyone should be there rooting these guys
all that is part of the team spirit.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
I agree. So this was this was interest. I wanted
to pose this question to you.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Did you ever have situations like this where team didn't
travel during the preseason?

Speaker 3 (06:19):
What Parcells traveling everyone?

Speaker 2 (06:24):
You'd figure Parcels did you figure his protege and Sean
Payton would would do that?

Speaker 1 (06:27):
But no, they're they're even guys that.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
Aren't playing or just back here chilling.

Speaker 6 (06:30):
Well, just because you are considered to be a protege
or a particular coach or certain coaches have linked to
you that doesn't necessarily mean that you can't go outside
the norm and do your own thing.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
And Shad Payton is doing his own thing.

Speaker 6 (06:45):
Like, hey, we I asked Nick Cosmido last night about
Sean Payton taking the team to see, you know, the
New Spider Man movie. I mean, none of my coaches
would have done that. I would have loved it, but
none of them have done it. But Sean Payton decided
to do this. Now, last year, the Broncos played a
couple of road games right the.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
Year before that. Unless this is new news to me,
but it seems.

Speaker 6 (07:09):
Like I've never known him to do something like this,
leave maybe the star starters back at home.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
But here's my bigger question.

Speaker 6 (07:17):
We know in the preseason game the schemes are gonna
be vanilla, but we do know injuries can happen. What
happens if someone were to get injured and one of
your starters, God for big You never want to put
a start in that situation, but you don't have enough reserves.
And I know how ridiculous that sounds, but that can
actually put stress on either side of the ball.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
Well that's and that's the next thing I was getting
at this. I mean, You're not gonna roll those guys
out there. You putting bow out there, But.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
You want your quarterback out there.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
You want him on the headset. You want him you know,
going through all that kind of stuff you want to
get Peter. The part of the preseason is to get
your starters ready to play it and then to go
down the roster and find out.

Speaker 6 (07:57):
Who can ball. Well, here's the other thing too. In
the preseason, everyone is going through the gymnastics of relearning
how to ride the bike if you will right, and
within a short period of time it all comes back
because you're dealing with a handset. You now have a
new guy calling plays in Davis Webb. You want your
quarterback there to be able to hear what's being communicated.

(08:18):
So during the regular season or when you come in
that second preseason game, everything is flowing the way that
you need to fall. And I know the pushback would
be well, guess what We've been working on that in
practice with walkie talkie and the green dot on the
quarterback helmet and.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Get in real life opposing stadium.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
That's the difference. You're on the road.

Speaker 6 (08:39):
So even though it's a preseason game, I anticipate the
crowd in Atlanta to be really loud, right.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
This is the start of a new era for Kevin Stefanski.

Speaker 6 (08:49):
They are rolling to a title of a layout, so
fans are gonna be charged up. It may not be
packed at the Mercedes Beans Stadium as it normally would
be on the regular season, but you still do with
crowd knows you want to be able to work out
all the kinks right now.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
So for me, I don't know why these guys are
not there.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Yeah, that's one that it just kind of threw me
and I'm like, I don't know what the impetus is
behind that.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
There wasn't really a follow up question asking about that.
So that's that's one.

Speaker 6 (09:13):
Of those things that that edgent really quickly, like you're
gonna ask me that question, but you're not going to
do a follow up.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
I would have asked that question. I would have.

Speaker 6 (09:25):
I mean, you didn't well well, but with coach, this
is what I'm going to say.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
This is all I'm going to say, And don't need
to ask me another.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
Question, but I need to ask you another question.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
Next question.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
So why are they traveling with the team, What is
the what what is the reasoning behind that?

Speaker 6 (09:43):
He decided to and for for us and his explanation
to everyone else who's not within the team, that's all
you need to know. I made a damn decision, and
that's all you need to know that.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
I take that pull quote because I'll run with that.

Speaker 6 (09:59):
But you know, personally, I would have loved to see
everyone there together.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
You've gone through.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
I just I never understood not taking advantage of any
opportunity you have to get reps, metal, reps, whatever, because
with the CBA and the weight practices and training camp
and all that kind of stuff is it's is gain experience, right,
even if you're getting metals.

Speaker 6 (10:24):
For me, it's bigger than that because it's the caraderie
that you have built.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
I'm with you on that.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
I'm saying in addition to what you're saying, I'm saying
like you're throwing away a chance at mental reps.

Speaker 6 (10:32):
Yes, and for me, you can't say, well, we're one
team when certain guys and I know everybody for everybody equal.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
But at the same time, I need you get guys
there to root these other guys on, cheer them on.

Speaker 6 (10:46):
This may be their only time and there's a lot
of camp battles that have not been decided yet.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
You've been in the room with these guys.

Speaker 6 (10:53):
You've been at practice, OTA's training camp with these guys.
So you're telling me, man, you guys can't be on
the sideline even though you're not playing to root these
guys on. That is the embodiment of teamwork, is it not?
Or are we changing the definition of it?

Speaker 2 (11:07):
I'm with you on that teamwork is team work not
you know, we're taking some of the guys work five
six six.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
Nine zero the text sign and Sep.

Speaker 6 (11:16):
Two.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
Oh maybe they kept them back to keep up their
rehabbing and healing with the training room.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
Oh okay, that's different.

Speaker 6 (11:23):
If if you are an able body individual there are
no injuries that you're dealing with, you can go on
the trip. If you are dealing with injuries, stay here rehab.
We need you for the next couple of games with gold.
The offensive line, the centers for the Broncos a little
dinged up, some of those guys, stay back, fine, right,

(11:43):
We just want you ready for the next two preseason
games and the season opener. But if you are, once
again an able body individual, there are no injuries, why
is it that you can't travel.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
And I know the teams as though. Well, man, you're
splitting hairs here.

Speaker 6 (11:58):
You're making a big deal out of nothing, knowing the
grand scheme of things.

Speaker 3 (12:01):
It's called team team. That's the phrase.

Speaker 6 (12:05):
Teamwork makes the dream work, right, So once again, cheer
these guys on. You know, some of these starters who
are back here in Denver. We know those guys are
gonna make the team fine, but what about these other guys.
Show your support for them, just like when you're in
the game, you want them to show their support. It's
no different than than being a starter, being at a

(12:27):
game knowing as though you're not going to play maybe
the second half.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
I don't want you when a camera passed to.

Speaker 6 (12:32):
The sideline, you eating hot dogs and some flower seeds
and not.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
Really paying attention. I want you to be vested in
the game, locked in the game right, and not talking
about what you're doing that night.

Speaker 6 (12:45):
I want you to be locked into the game as
far as what is actually going on, but not having
the players there. Man, this is different from me. Man,
And this may sound like get off my lawn or whatever,
and if it sounds like that, so be it. But
I'm so used to the team camaraderie team.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
Yeah I I I'm with that too.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
And they're not the only one. There's a couple of
teams that are that have done this.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
One of the texts pointed out that the rams Uh
typically do not have their starters go on away.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
Games in the preseason. Doesn't make a difference. Okay, I
don't like it. I just it's it's antathetical to It's just.

Speaker 7 (13:21):
Antithetical to what I what I you know about the game.
And and maybe it's me being the old school, maybe
it's me being weird. Maybe it's both of us being
old school and being weird. But it's one of those
things that just just rubbed me kind of weird.

Speaker 6 (13:31):
I'm like, I don't I'm gonna go more with the
old school opposed to weird.

Speaker 3 (13:36):
Okay, all right, I'll take the old school, not the weird.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
Well, whichever camp I fall into, depending on your point
of view. But I like, I don't know, I everywhere.
I would want my guys there. I'd want my guys
get the metal reps. I want my team practice. I
want them practicing too, and going through the motions of
doing the things you're gonna be doing on game day.

Speaker 6 (13:54):
It's it's the it's the process, but more or less,
for me, it's the team aspect, right. And I know
within the team there's certain individuals who are highlighted, certain
individuals who are not as ostracized as others, and in
some cases they're glorified. But once again, we're still working

(14:14):
within the confinements of a team.

Speaker 3 (14:16):
How can we build that team.

Speaker 6 (14:18):
Camaraderie where you can say, well, it's a road game,
so you guys don't have to come, you know, don't
worry about you guys. Good. No, these guys have tried
to make this team and this whole In sports, you
always hear the blood, sweat and tears all to me,

(14:39):
you're not abiding by those rules and policies. And I
get it. I get it if you're yelling at me saying, well,
that's coach's decision. He can do whatever you want you.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
Yeah, you're right.

Speaker 6 (14:49):
I'm just telling you that I've never seen it happen
in years that I played with coaches, right, And I
just don't like it because it's just kind of a
divide within the team.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
You want guys together, you want you though, I don't
know anyway. I almost mean to spend this much time
on it, but it was something that perplexed me. Anyways,
Like I understand that one or the two other teams
do it, but it's just I don't know. It just
seems odd to me. I would always keep my guys together.
I would always want them taking the mental reps. I'd
always want my team be at a team that support man.
That's what I'm saying, you know. Anyway, Uh five six

(15:19):
six nine zeros text lines. Somebody asked how we pronounced car.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
We'll there you go.

Speaker 3 (15:23):
That's how I pronounce car. Uh in Boston.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
Well, in Boston, you're looking for your Yeah, if you're
looking for you, look in Boston.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
As somebody says, Kaki's you can't tell.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
If somebody's talking about the thing that you used to
start the car or a pair of tan pants. You
never know what else we got here, see someone night.
Caramel is a candy in its own wrapper. Caramel is
what's in your candy bar? What trying to get? So

(15:52):
Carmel's or the candy and caramel's what's in a candy bar?

Speaker 3 (15:57):
Yeah, I don't know about them. I don't he could.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (16:01):
What do you call an area where you above ground,
your house, below ground where you parked your car.

Speaker 3 (16:09):
What do you call it.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Below ground or like a garage?

Speaker 8 (16:12):
Yes, and London is the garage. The garage the they
spelled the ship. They spelled jail with the chief garage.
You get thrown in jail. It's spelled like goal with O.
A revert here with someone.

Speaker 6 (16:27):
If someone steals something from you, you say, well you
were robbed over there, they say you were burgled.

Speaker 2 (16:34):
Okay, instead of stole something. They nicked it off of Yes,
so it's your name. Your name literally means theft. Oh, yes,
five four one. Does the new facility have a VR
room they can use in real time? It does have
a VR stuff. It's not that you can't sync it
up to what's going on in the game. If that's

(16:55):
what you're asking I'm not sure if that's what you're
asking there, but that's I knows.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
When I was coaching there, they had.

Speaker 6 (17:02):
A room because if you look at how they film
practice now, it's a lot different than they did before.
Because when I play these guys, those scaffolds, those long
Now there's these kind of things.

Speaker 3 (17:15):
That looks like a boat that you can sit.

Speaker 6 (17:18):
In and he has this large camera that you can
extend and you can capture it that way. In San Francisco,
they also had a guy who had a polder like
he was filming for NFL Films. So when you go
back to watch it, you put on a VR goggles.
It puts you right in the seat of the quarterback,
so you can see every little intricate detail from a.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
Guy in motion running routes.

Speaker 6 (17:39):
So I don't know if the Broncos are sophisticated like
in in that way, but I don't have to think.

Speaker 2 (17:46):
They've got but I think that I think the texture
is asking about uh being parallel to the game at
the same time, like put the VR and be it
like you're at the game.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
I don't. I'm not aware that they have that they
have the VR room. I'm not aware they have the you.

Speaker 3 (18:01):
Know who has one Texas Red Raiders.

Speaker 1 (18:04):
I believe that because Campbell.

Speaker 6 (18:06):
Yeah it's the reason why, because Patrick Mahomes donated money.
You can actually stand on the field inside the facility.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
Yeah, yeah, that's well. Yeah, I did a break Broncos
country tonight, off and running. We'll be back after this.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
It's like the Pittsburgh Steelers are up on the Green
Bay Packers seven to three, and I got a few
other games going on here.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
Of course, we got the Titans Niners that believe seven o'clock.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
These Bengals are up ten to three on the Detroit Lions.
In that one, Joe Flacco if they pass to Jack
endres Ver a four yard touchdowns, a long touchdown. And
in that one, Dobbs at Altmeyer passing for the Lions,
they I think somebody threw an interception that was off
the hands of Isaac Tesla. Joe Burrow did play for

(19:00):
of the Bengals in this one, five six thirty nine yards,
took a sack, no touchdowns, no interceptions, nothing big, just
shaking the rust off a little bit in that Chase
had a catcher sixteen yards in that one as well.
The Patriots are up three to nothing on the Colts,
and we've got the cards and the Raiders tied at seven.

(19:21):
Carson Beck not playing in this one, had a bruised
rib injury. Kobe preset five of five forty four yards
and a touchdown. That touchdown was to Marvin Harrison Junior,
a seven yard reception in that one on the Raiders
side of the house. Kirk Cousins five of six fifty
yards and a touchdown. Barnanda midoz A one for three

(19:43):
four nine yards. The touchdown from Kirk Cousins went to
Michael Mayer in that one as well. Jant three carries
sixteen yards like Washington three carries a six yards, so
both those running basket a little a little bit of
tick in that one, but Forananda Mendoza is now in
the game for the Raiders. And then you got the

(20:04):
Texans of the Chargers the other game going on. Texans
up seven to three in that with Davis Mills Jared
Wayne for a five yard touchdown in that when Trey
Lance handling the quarterback duties for the Chargers.

Speaker 6 (20:16):
And these first preseason games, basically what you want to
see is execution. That guys can go out, they can
line up, they know where the spots are on the field,
and then after that point you allow your athleticism to
take over. Everything you worked on you since Pop Warner
football to college to the pro game. You want to

(20:39):
have all of those things on on full display because
everything that you do is being evaluated, right, and some
guys make the team it's based on Hey, the guy
was in the right position. Now, maybe he didn't make
as many plays as this other guy, but you know
that he can file direction, he can put himself in

(21:02):
position to make a play. And that's one thing I
love about the preseason. To the fans, it may be
a little boring because you don't you're not able to
see some of the marquee starters that you're going to
see during the regular season, and you're not seeing an
elaborate schemes because for the most part, teams don't scheme
against other teams, unless like we saw last year when

(21:26):
the Broncos went up to San Francisco and Roberts olav
was a defensive coordinator and.

Speaker 3 (21:31):
The Broncos kind of got the best of them in practice.

Speaker 6 (21:34):
So he said, you know what, I know it's an
unwritten rule where you don't blitz in preseason, but guess what.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
We got to remind him, I'm gonna blitz.

Speaker 6 (21:43):
And there was a there was some upset between the
coaching staff because it's.

Speaker 3 (21:48):
Like, hey, I thought we were not gonna do this.

Speaker 6 (21:51):
Robins Solam like, well, everything is fair game, but anytime
you're out there on the field, sometimes some of these
rules that you want to say that unwritten ruse. These
rule are broken because coaches are trying to evaluate players.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
Yeah, and there's h I happen to know all those
couple of coaches that will talk to the other coach
ahead of time and be like, hey, would you do
this in this particular situation, Maybe throw this, this and this.

Speaker 1 (22:14):
We want to get this look. Anything I can do
for you.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
You know, sometimes they'll they'll throw a look in the
second half like the first.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
You could do those in the joint practices though.

Speaker 2 (22:21):
Yeah, well it makes a lot easier to doing joint
prece ye. But you know, there's there's a little bit
of that going on the preseason sometimes too. And and
obviously wins in the preseason don't don't mean eight of
the fact the expression that I always using Everybody's gonna
get any roll here because they use it every year
is that in the preseason everything matters except the final score,
and the regular season nothing matters but the final score.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
And that's that's.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
How that's how football is because you're evaluating everything, every snap,
every guy, every player, you know, So in the preseason
everything matters except.

Speaker 1 (22:47):
The final score, and the regular season the only thing
that matters, I.

Speaker 6 (22:50):
Know, coaches always says the cliche saying that, oh, you
know what, the wreckers in the preseason don't matter.

Speaker 3 (22:59):
But if you are a competitor, you want to win
at everything you do.

Speaker 6 (23:03):
I mean, if it's flipping coins against the wall, you
want to you want to win. Well, you when you
played uh paper football in grade school?

Speaker 3 (23:12):
Right?

Speaker 1 (23:13):
I want to win getting out of here first every night?

Speaker 3 (23:14):
Yes, and you always win at that.

Speaker 6 (23:16):
Right, you're the first of the elevator, the first one
to the ground floor. I am right, I have no shame.
As soon as I get there. It's like he disappeared
and smoke like batman.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
Right, But that's what happened.

Speaker 6 (23:26):
But the idea is that, yes, you definitely want to compete,
and coaches like to walk away and say, hey, listen,
even though my starters didn't play in these in the game,
I know that my backups were better than yours to
go out there and do work.

Speaker 3 (23:45):
So I would like to think that it counts for
a Brandon not.

Speaker 2 (23:50):
We know John Harbaugh cares because we had that streak
going when he was at the Ravens. Yeah, win in
preseason games. There are some coaches that absolutely care, others
that don't. Like CHOHn Payne does not care. There are
some coaches that very much care though about winning the preseason.

Speaker 6 (24:03):
But I would like to think that you do care
to a certain degree because you want to see the
guys that you coached go out and perform.

Speaker 3 (24:10):
Well.

Speaker 6 (24:11):
I mean, no one is playing because they want to
be a born loser. No one is coaching because they
want to coach a loser. Everyone wants to win, So
why not in the preseason even if you don't win
the game, say okay, my guy won that particular wreck.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
Well, there's something to winning culture too, Like we win everything,
we win the we are inevitable, we win the preseason games.
You know that kind of there's something There is something
to that. I think there's a mindset if you're like
a John Harball where you're actively trying to win preseason
games on top of all that every year. I think
there is something to that if you're trying to establish
a culture as a coach.

Speaker 3 (24:43):
But what did we talk about yesterday, Ben Johnson?

Speaker 6 (24:46):
Ben Johnson said, Look, I want to go far beyond
the usual sayings and pro sports.

Speaker 3 (24:52):
Oh we want to win the championship.

Speaker 6 (24:54):
No, no, no, no, everyone wants to do that every single year,
and that some teams find out once they take the
feel that's not gonna be our type of year. But
you want to win at every single thing that you're doing,
because once again, what type of culture are you establishing?

Speaker 3 (25:12):
And I can tell you this, man, I'm tired of
these darn.

Speaker 6 (25:15):
Participation trophies, right, So build that culture where you want
to win, and winning is a necessity. You have to
want it, ben like it's breathing, right, that's what that's
what it needs to be.

Speaker 1 (25:28):
I mean, you know, I think you don't be well
enough to know.

Speaker 2 (25:29):
I'm I'm a pretty competitive guy, like I want to
win and everything.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
I'm still waiting on Sydney Swing. That's okay, all right?
Are you not? Are you? Are you waiting on it
to I.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
Use that's it bull line like sweat the actually on
that one that I have to wait to look.

Speaker 3 (25:50):
I have to wait till she's out.

Speaker 6 (25:51):
Wait.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
Wait, wait, First of all, can you even answer this question?
I know you have a.

Speaker 1 (25:55):
Oh, I can't answer the question.

Speaker 4 (25:58):
I'm waiting for it in the same way I'm waiting
to win the power ball?

Speaker 1 (26:01):
Man, did you buy a powerball ticket?

Speaker 6 (26:06):
You know? Occasionally, what if you don't buy a ticket,
it's hard to win.

Speaker 1 (26:10):
It's really difficult. The way if you don't buy a ticket.

Speaker 6 (26:13):
Works whether or not I buy a ticket. If you
want to win, you have to buy a ticket. In
this case, agreed to Sandy Sweeney Sweepsteaks. All you have
to do is being in studio whenever Ben allegedly bras
her to the studio.

Speaker 2 (26:27):
I've I've We've been over this one a hundred million times,
and why I'm out to favor there.

Speaker 1 (26:32):
But she has to be out here in order for
me to do that. So listen, I don't control her schedule.

Speaker 3 (26:36):
I know you don't.

Speaker 6 (26:38):
I just want to make sure I'm here when it happens,
so I can say that Ben as we came.

Speaker 1 (26:42):
Through when it happens.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
Believe me, you will know if I have to, if
I have to get an uber to your house. See,
it will absolutely, it'll absolutely happen.

Speaker 1 (26:54):
You guys saw Terry and Arnold signed by the Seahawks today.

Speaker 3 (26:57):
Yeah, I saw that. What he is legal trump or not?

Speaker 2 (27:01):
And I will tell you that the contract has offsets
to get out from under it if he if he's
found guilty, so they won't be on the hook.

Speaker 1 (27:06):
For basically just about anything. So that's the other part
of this.

Speaker 2 (27:10):
Whether he's going on the commission exemple list a lot
of stuff. We get to that here in the middle
and zero the text line. You know, we got Broncos
preseason action tomorrow here on KOA.

Speaker 1 (27:23):
Cover starts at one pm. Myself, Nick Ferguson.

Speaker 2 (27:26):
I think Anthony rodd is with us producing that, okay,
and uh so we'll.

Speaker 1 (27:31):
Start dan kickoff at five o'clock.

Speaker 2 (27:33):
We'll have the usual cast and crew, Ryan Edwards, Dave Logan,
Rick Lewis, Susie Warden, everybody leading all the way up
to the first preseason kickoff as the Broncos take on
the Atlanta Falcons in Atlanta. Kickoff by five pm. To
keep it right here on KOA, looking forward to getting
the preseason started. Man, if you were young Nick Ferguson,

(27:58):
what would you be doing at this point, right before
you're first preseason game? Do you have any any jitters,
any nerves? Was it just trying to get into the mindset?
Was what was young Nick Ferguson doing a prep for
that first preseason game.

Speaker 6 (28:10):
All the idea is that the nerves would be there,
and I know some people would suggest that, well, you've
been doing it for.

Speaker 3 (28:18):
A while, going back to your college days.

Speaker 6 (28:20):
It shouldn't be any different because it should be football.
But it is different because this is the level football
that everyone dreams of getting to, but not everyone actually
makes it through. And preseason is that time of year
for players to kind of fine tune their skill set.

Speaker 3 (28:39):
And it always goes back to do you have the
time or you're giving.

Speaker 6 (28:43):
The reps to fine tune your skill set, because in practice,
a lot of those reps went to the starters. So
a little of the I guess fear anxiety had to
do with now you're going into doing something you know
that only a hand full of individuals have done before,
and only a handful of individuals will make a team.

Speaker 3 (29:06):
And now you're going into that game.

Speaker 6 (29:08):
Known as though you've had very limited reps, and whatever
that game plan is, you.

Speaker 3 (29:12):
Can't make a mistake.

Speaker 6 (29:13):
And oh by the way, oh by the way, you're
gonna have to play every defensive down that is dictated
by wherever they have you play first team, second team,
thirteen and beyond, and every single special teams. So there's
no excuse where a coach you're gonna tap your helmet.

Speaker 3 (29:32):
I need to breathe.

Speaker 2 (29:33):
Oh no, no, no, unless you are Anthony Richardson, in
which case, well, I mean he put the ball on
the turf.

Speaker 3 (29:41):
No, he didn't he do that?

Speaker 6 (29:43):
Was it? He was?

Speaker 2 (29:43):
It wasn't Anthony Richardson the guy that yeah yeah, yeah
the year first Well yeah yeah, yes.

Speaker 6 (29:49):
That was against the Texas if I'm not mistaken where
he bowed out and saying he was tired.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
And I need a coach. I need to blow real quick.
If you'd throw somebody out here.

Speaker 6 (29:57):
So man, look when you and Ethony richards sins defense,
when you are a former first round pick, you can
do that.

Speaker 3 (30:06):
They'll let you get away with it. Right, You got
more leeway.

Speaker 6 (30:09):
You have a longer leash where you are a free
agent guy and you're undrafted.

Speaker 3 (30:14):
Oh no, no, no, then you play every single rep.

Speaker 6 (30:18):
Have you ever been running around as a kid to
play in a sport and you get like a cramp
right in your abs Like for me, I used to
get them right in my abs the same place every
single time, and it seems like someone's.

Speaker 3 (30:31):
Staying at a near elbow right there.

Speaker 6 (30:33):
Guess what you have to play through that you go
to the sideline, you see the starter and you see
his backup.

Speaker 3 (30:42):
And you go over there.

Speaker 6 (30:43):
You have to look on your face like dog, I
need a break.

Speaker 3 (30:47):
They turn around like I don't even know you. You
So you.

Speaker 6 (30:54):
Have to go back out there and you have to
play that game like there's nothing wrong with you.

Speaker 3 (30:59):
And even if you have a so ankle, you still
have to go out there. So there's a lot.

Speaker 6 (31:03):
Of anxiety for a lot of these guys to take
in the field for the first time because since they
were kids, they dreamed at this moment.

Speaker 1 (31:09):
This game could make or break the dream.

Speaker 6 (31:12):
This is your moment and known as there are only
two there are only three preseason games, two after the
one tonight where there were four where you had some
time to work yourself into it, to change the mind
of the coaching staff or your position coach and how
they see you. Now you got three games, and in
some cases you might not even have that. So young

(31:34):
Nick Ferguson in this Today's NFL man, I would have been.

Speaker 3 (31:37):
Freaking the hell out.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
Yeah, what did you do to like calm down and
make sure you got sleep the night before.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
Went to sleep.

Speaker 6 (31:45):
But here's a luxury off it hire hit the or
no no no no no no.

Speaker 3 (31:50):
But but here's the luxury of playing defense.

Speaker 6 (31:53):
Anytime I felt as though I was a little too
nervous and I needed to calm myself down, I ran
into someone.

Speaker 1 (32:00):
Yeah, so you get to go hit somebody hit, and then.

Speaker 6 (32:03):
It's it calms you down, like stay calm Barkley.

Speaker 1 (32:08):
I'm stealing that, by the way.

Speaker 3 (32:10):
The commercial.

Speaker 1 (32:11):
It's in the commercial which one.

Speaker 6 (32:13):
Yes, the one uh when he's sitting on Yes, stay
calmed Barkley.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
My bad. Yeah, I really thought you came. I was
about to call.

Speaker 3 (32:22):
That one.

Speaker 1 (32:23):
All right.

Speaker 2 (32:25):
We have got to hit a break when we come back.
Mark Romani from ESPN down there in Atlanta gonna join us.
Look before talking to him about these Atlanta foul because
