Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Broncos Country Tonight, short show post, Rockies edition,
and we are roster cut down edition as well. A
lot of stuff to get to tonight, so I want
to get to all that, but we'll start with the
Broncos roster moves, roster cut downs, and I think the biggest,
or what appears to be the biggest shocker for most

(00:20):
people was letting Jolie and read murdoch go now murdoch
of course we slipped back through waivers and got him
back to practice squad joe lee of course was claimed
by the miami dolphins uh reese taylor also claimed by
the miami dolphins um there are a lot of people
that were complaining about uh the fact that joe lee

(00:47):
was even waived in the first place why was he
drafted um you know, any of that kind of stuff.
But I, you know, honestly, it was a weak draft class.
The Broncos took some, some flyers on day three. Uh,
I don't care that they traded up to get the guy,
give him a shot, whatever. Um, at the end of
the day, it didn't work out.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
You move on.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
It was a guy, you know, Jolie, I've seen a
lot of fake stuff out there about Jolie, by the way,
on the internet.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
He fumbled in seven on sevens. Um, there, there, no,
people were not celebrating, uh, him getting hit on things.
That was D the defense celebrating the guy making the
hit Torian York. Um, I've just seen a lot of
fake stuff out there about that kind of stuff. The
reality is Jolie didn't pick up the playbook the way
they wanted, didn't run routes the way they wanted, and
didn't block. And at the end of the day, I mean,

(01:31):
you already had a guy in Evan Engram that's better
than him at everything that he does well. So what
are you going to do? It's not a big deal
for me. I know he was a draft crush for
Ryan Edwards, so Ryan was a little disappointed. I was
ambivalent about it. I'm sorry, did you say draft crush?
crush yes draft crushes like a draft that's a that's

(01:52):
a real term.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Really that's a real thing i gotta take the webster
dictionary you got you do it's in the it's in
the merriam and webster's yeah um.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
But i i think uh you know the red murdoch
thing wasn't surprised by because they felt like they could
swing him back through to the practice squad jolie was
not coming back to the practice squad i'll just spoil
the surprise there but um and he got claimed by
miami anyway but I don't know. There's people that are
crapping on George Payton for the draft pick and all
this stuff. I'm like, man, it's a day three draft

(02:19):
pick on a stacked roster.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
What do you want to do?

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Well, you know what, Ben?

Speaker 4 (02:23):
I'm not one of those individuals, but there are a
lot of people out there and the expectation is that
every draft pick, every selection, you have to hit on
every selection. And I don't look at it that way.
Your top picks, of course, you want to hit on those.
Those are guys that are viewed as being guaranteed guys,
even though the only thing that's guaranteed in life is

(02:45):
death and taxes. With that being said, you hope that
some of the later round picks, you hit on those guys,
and those guys have the capability of developing into productive players.
But I look at this situation with Jolie with the
lens of, okay, the team made the decision they felt

(03:05):
was in the best interest of them, especially when you
looked at a crowded.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
tight end room to begin with.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
We knew that everyone was going to make the roster with,
I guess, the massive amount of guys that they had.
But when you think about Joe Lee and you think
about Dallin Bentley, one guy was brought in because he
blocks better than.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
He runs routes. And that's Dallin Bentley.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
The other guy was supposed to run routes better than
he blocked in Justin Joe Lee. Because basically what the
Broncos were telling me during the draft period was that
They don't have a complete tight end.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
They don't. And they still don't.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
They still don't. So they're trying to morph two guys
into being one.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
And with that being said, you knew that it was
going to be really difficult for either Bentley or Jolie
to make the team. Jolie being the fifth round pick
and Bentley being the seventh round pick.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Even with that being said, I wish Jolie.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
I wish that he has a better opportunity down... in
Miami because there's another former Denver Bronco tight end that
did not pan out here.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
Now it's down with the Miami dolphins.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Also couldn't block.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
Well, well, when we think about it, it's a day's game.
You're not having one of those tight ends. That is
your do it all tight end. You're not having that.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
Uh, even Kyle pits coming out of Florida. He was
what you call, uh, Heavy slot? Isn't that what you
called him?

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Kind of.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
I mean, because he's an off-the-line Y. He's not a
tight end. He's an off-the-line Y, and that's really it.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
That's right.

Speaker 4 (04:47):
So when you ask him to block, very difficulty blocking
in those situations. So I wish Joe Lee nothing but,
you know, great praises moving forward, and hopefully that he
can pick up his career with the Miami Dolphins. But
this just only speaks to the fact that The Broncos

(05:07):
still have issues at the tight end position. And I know, Ben,
there are people who yell at me, too, when I
talk about the tight end group. And maybe this is
a little of some of the guys I play with,
some of the guys I play against, and just not
seeing that same level of intentionality when it comes to
the Broncos' tight end position. Because you have a bunch

(05:31):
of guys who are supposed to have an ego. Let
me not say a bunch of guys. Let me put
names on it. Everything past catching tight end. Don't put
him in the line and ask him to block.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
Right.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
Some have argued with me. Well, he's gotten better. And
I was like, yeah, he's gotten better. But what we're
talking about is a level of consistency. And that's still
not there. Adam Trotman was supposed to be your blocking
tight end. But when you watch, he doesn't really do
that on a consistent basis the way you want him to.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
And the thing that pisses me off, Ben, because I
listen to so many people.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
Criticize other players, and on this offense, they criticize the
darn running backs like it's always their fault. You need
guys who can block on the perimeter. Now, in Kansas City,
Monday night, two weeks from now, I'm open to the
tight end room changing my mind, but as it presently
stands right here on August 31st, I haven't seen it.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
If the Broncos sign Taysom Hill, does that change the
calculus for you at all?

Speaker 2 (06:34):
It does, and here's why.

Speaker 4 (06:36):
Because you now have a guy who has... A dynamic
skill set. And when I say the dynamic skill set,
I'm excluding the possibility of putting him in at the
quarterback position.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
No, I'm going to take that out of the equation.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
Please don't do that.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
Yes. Please don't.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Please don't put Taysom Hill in a quarterback. I mean,
unless we're running tush push, don't put him in.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
Right, right.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
Now, there are some design quarterback plays that you can
put him in for that where he can actually throw
the ball, right? Where you can put Bo Nix and
Taysom on the field at the same time. Now, I
know some will criticize saying, well.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
He's washed, he's over.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
No, man.

Speaker 4 (07:19):
The idea is I truly believe in the short intermediate
passing game. A guy like Taysom Hill can cause matchup issues.
We're not looking for him to run 40 yards down
the field and sprint past the guy.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
No.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
It's to run after the catch. People overestimate the yak yards.
Put it in his hands, he can do work. Taysom
Hill is everything that Tim Tebow could have been if
he would have settled into the fact of being somewhat
of an H-back, let him use his size and athleticism
to run guys over. That is something Taysom Hill can
actually bring.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
To the Broncos' offense.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
Yeah, and I think, you know, I do believe the
Broncos still have interest in Taysom Hill. Sean talked to
him up there in Canton when they were out there
at the Hall of Fame thing. Part of that might be,
you know, from what I'm talking to people, it might
be a week two signing, you know, to avoid the
guaranteeing the full deal.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
You know how it is when vets get cut.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
You know exactly what it is.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
Vet gets cut, they miss week one, then they bring
them back week two so they can avoid the, you know,
veteran vested, vested veteran fully guaranteed contract deal.

Speaker 4 (08:24):
Yeah, it's funny that you mentioned that because when I
arrived here in Denver and We had a linebacker by
the name of Keith Burns. Keith Burns played for Tampa Bay,
most notably for the Broncos team. Now he's coaching special
teams up at Howard University.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
And every year, every year when he's on.

Speaker 4 (08:43):
The kickoff team, and I would normally line up close
to him, and when they kick the ball off, here's
what he would say as he's running down the field
with this gleeful laughter and a joy of just like
being a kid.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
Got him.

Speaker 4 (08:58):
That's the first thing he would say. And I was like,
why do you keep saying that? And he was like,
because every year I'm on the team and I'm on
kickoff team to start off the game and I run
down the field, my salary is guaranteed. So to play
these types of games that you're talking about, the Broncos
could play with Taysom Hill, making him a week two
possible signing.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
I totally get it. Sign me up for it.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
By the way, speaking of got him, have you seen
this fake 49ers post? deal this dejan love guy who
faked being a 49ers player scammed 20 plus women out
of a million and a half.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
This is all over the internet the more you saw.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
The more you dive down the rabbit hole in this
dude i'm like the audacity yeah oh my god the
videos he was posting i'm like i i get it
because like some people don't understand it that's like bad
technique and all because that's what it is they just
see the video the dude working out and they don't
think anything about our guy carrying his helmet to the
beach this man does that let's do it well nobody
but they don't know better like people don't know better

(09:56):
than this and this guy's out there air quotes running
routes at.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
The beach.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
It's the stupidest thing.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
He said that he was.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
He was on waivers and you got to clear three
types of waivers, physical, emotional, and mental.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
You know what, Ben? Okay, all right, okay.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
This dude, I mean, the scam hall of fame, this
guy's going to definitely get a Netflix movie made about him, 100%.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
There's no way this guy's not getting a Netflix movie made.

Speaker 4 (10:25):
Oh, I hate to say it, but yeah, that's a
strong possibility because it is so egregious that you laugh,
but you also say how terrible it is to what
he was able to do to certain people. Now, there
are those on, you know, the Twitterverse or whatever you
want to call it, X or whatever, social media, that
there are these back and forth conversation because there's a

(10:46):
sector of the country that feels as though, man, this,
like you said, scam artists of the year war. But
then others are suggesting that, wait a minute, Did he
not do what women do when they date guys? Is
he not doing the same thing and just turning the
tables on women as though those tables have been turned

(11:09):
on men? And there's a lot of stories about things
like this happening to a man, but does this justify
the situation?

Speaker 2 (11:17):
I say no, it does not.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
This is I mean, it's this is this thing is
just hilarious. It's funny because one of the women and
this guy got arrested in Boise, Idaho, with his air
quotes financial manager, who's some 18 year old kid. And
this guy's like 33 years old, by the way. There's
a woman who said she gave him eleven thousand dollars
after he what looked like spent hundreds of thousand dollars

(11:42):
around her. going so far as to buy her a Corvette.
He didn't buy her the Corvette. He was renting it
from this place and just basically gave her the keys
to the Corvette and took her $ 11, 000 and was paying
for it for the couple of days that she had it.
She was supposed to ride with him, but left to
run an errand. That's where he went silent. It turned
out he was getting arrested because he got on a
plane in Boise and he got arrested. Is there anything

(12:05):
more embarrassing than your scam winding up with you getting
arrested in an airport in Boise, Idaho?

Speaker 4 (12:10):
Well, listen, Being arrested in Boise, Idaho, that's bad. But
being the individual that now you have to tell your family,
tell your coworkers that you were the person that was scammed.
And the only thing that you can say, well, he
didn't just do it to me. He did it to
other people. But listen, man, it is wild. People tell

(12:34):
many tales. And sometimes you have to do your research
on individuals to make sure they are who they are.
But as they would say in dating, when you meet someone,
you don't always meet them.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
You always meet their representative.

Speaker 4 (12:49):
In this case, a lot of these women met this
guy's representative and they have paid financially.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
The FBI in Portland says Deja Love ran his fake
49er scam for four plus years straight and was still
running it the day agents arrested him, which was August 24th.
No exit plan, didn't cash out, just LARPed his way
into handcuffs.

Speaker 4 (13:10):
That's still, it's, this is a wild story. And you know,
like at the end of every single year, it's always, Hey,
let's have a look back at the year that was,
this is going to be number one as one of
the biggest stories of 2026.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
This is absolute hilarity. And, uh, this is one of
those things where I was like, man, I, I, I
got sucked in. I kept going down the rabbit hole.
Now some of these people now, and this is kind
of funny because this is what happens on social media is, uh,
You know, this scam artist or whatever. Now you've got
a bunch of people trying to capitalize on it and
they're pretending they got scammed by the guy, even though
they didn't have any connection to him whatsoever.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
So you got a bunch of fake stories out there.
You got that going.

Speaker 4 (13:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
The grift that keeps on giving or however you want to,
you know, you want to look at it.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
But it's it's certainly I don't know. It's one of the.
one of the funniest things I think I've seen.

Speaker 1 (13:59):
It's not funny to people who got defrauded out of
their money, certainly, but it's one of the funniest things
to me. They're like, this is super easy to look up.
You could just look up a roster.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
You could look up the waiver.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
He claimed, he claimed he broke his pinky and he
hadn't passed the physical component of the three tiers of
waivers that you have to pass.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
And so he was stuck with the Niners now. Keep
in mind. This dude's 35 years old, all right? They
don't know this, though.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
He's like, I got all these teams calling me, the Rams,
the Ravens, all of them calling, but I'm choosing to
go the night. It was like he was picking a
college or something. I mean, it is absolutely insane, the audacity.
And they got away with it for four years. You
know what goes back to this?

Speaker 4 (14:39):
Because it just tells you how thirsty some individuals could
be for fame on both sides.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
To be able to say that you're.

Speaker 4 (14:49):
Involved with a player who plays in the NFL. I mean,
you can go to your office and tell your family that.
I mean, that's big news because not everyone can actually
boast that. But this is beyond ridiculous. And look, I
sympathize with individuals who were victims, but this is why

(15:09):
you have to check.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
But I understand.

Speaker 4 (15:12):
When you first meet someone, Ben, You don't want to
think about the negative of that person because you're starting
off a potential relationship with negative thoughts. But from now on,
if you are single out there and you're listening and
you're watching and you've seen the videos of this guy, you.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
May have to check.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
You have to.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
Yeah, this is, I don't know. All I can say
is keep your head on a swivel. Trust, but verify,
verify everything, anything anybody ever tells you. Be like, OK,
but I mean, verify anything anybody ever tells you, because
that was I don't know.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
I just as much as I.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
As much as I want to believe people, this is
one of those things that you just you look at
and you're like, wow. Like, how did this guy get
away with this for that long? Four years of getting
away with it.

Speaker 3 (15:55):
But see, this is going to make people.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
I mean, it'll make people better about being able to
spot scammers now.

Speaker 4 (16:01):
Well, also, there's a negative side of this, too, because
people are already untrustworthy when it comes to relationships. Right.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
Is she going to cheat on me? Is she going
to cheat on me?

Speaker 3 (16:10):
Is he really telling me how many kids he has
or am I going to find out?

Speaker 2 (16:13):
Right. Half a dozen more. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (16:15):
Right.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Right.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
So now this is going to force people to be
a little more skeptical when they meet people.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
Like, can I see your government I.D.? Can I see
your social security card?

Speaker 1 (16:26):
Right.

Speaker 3 (16:26):
Where do you actually live? Do you live with your
mom or what kind of scam?

Speaker 4 (16:31):
So once again, it's just like, it has a potential
to ruin the dating scene, which I'm glad that I'm
not out there anymore.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:39):
Lucky you. Yeah. We got now I'm going to, you know,
are you really a radio host or do I need to?

Speaker 1 (16:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
Then nobody's doing that one.

Speaker 4 (16:47):
All right.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
We got to take a break. We'll be back. Broncos
country tonight. Welcome back to it.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Broncos country tonight. Short show post Rockies edition, Benjamin Albright,
Nick Ferguson here with you. Appreciate you guys being along
for the ride. As always talked a little bit about
a 49er scammer guy in the last segment, as well
as some of the, the Jolie stuff. Um, one of
the other big sort of questions I guess is did
the Broncos make the right move with the running back row? Um,

(17:17):
you know, Jaleel McLaughlin no longer with the Broncos bring
Todd Bidet back. Um, I think everyone is wondering what
blackmail photos little Jordan Humphrey and Tyler Bidet have on
Sean Payton at this point, and if that's a joint
venture or individual, but.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
Did they make the right decision there?

Speaker 1 (17:34):
Jaleel obviously has gotten himself or had gotten himself into
the doghouse of Sean Payton with the fumbles, but clearly
a better runner, more explosive, maybe didn't have that long speed,
but certainly had the short area quicks. Bidet, a better
pass pro guy, but You know, is that worth keeping
somebody around, especially when you've got a roster crunch like

(17:56):
you kind of have this year in a window? So
did the Broncos make the right move keeping Bidet over
Julio McLaughlin?

Speaker 3 (18:05):
I'm going to say no.

Speaker 4 (18:07):
And the reason I'm going to say no is I'm
going to start with the regular season last year. There
were a couple of times where Tyler Bidet was in
a lot of those games. And he was used sort
of like a third-down specialist, Dave Mega type of guy.

Speaker 3 (18:24):
And he had a couple of drops.

Speaker 4 (18:28):
And you can't really turn the ball over in those
situations because now the team now is forced to punt.
And they're obviously in third-and-long situations. So I don't think
he actually performed well. Now I go back maybe, was
it a year or two years, when the Broncos were
playing the Jets at MetLife Stadium.

Speaker 3 (18:47):
I think it was kind of a rainy game.

Speaker 4 (18:49):
And Talibur Day was deemed as being the running back
for that game.

Speaker 3 (18:54):
If I'm not mistaken, I could be wrong. You can
correct me. I think, was Javante still here during that time?

Speaker 4 (19:00):
Because if that was the case, Talibur Day was slated
as being the team's bell cow running back at that time.
And I think it was some of a back injury
early in the game that kind of pulled him out
of the mix. And then you fast forward to what
we've seen this preseason. There wasn't really anything exciting about
Tyler Bidet and some of the, I guess, most impactful

(19:24):
or energetic plays, especially in that fourth preseason game against
the Minnesota Vikings. A lot of those plays came from
Jahlil McLaughlin. And say what you want about Jahlil. When
he was on the field, he played with a certain tenacity.
He's played with a certain level of energy. And it's
funny you mention, talk about, well, if... Bidet or the

(19:44):
Jordan Humphrey has photos on Sean Payton. I can't say
that what I can say. is that it definitely appears
as though there is somewhat of a love affair with
both of these players because, you know, Sean may see
maybe a little of Dave Maggot or Pierre Thomas in

(20:04):
Tyler Bidet.

Speaker 3 (20:05):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (20:07):
And all I can see is that Bidet hasn't, once again,
done anything that you can say, well, he's earned the spot, right?
And for me as a talent evaluator, I want to
be able to look at a guy when I turn
on a film and say, well, you know what? Here
are the set couple of plays that really, using Sean,
I think Sean Payton paraphrasing.

Speaker 3 (20:27):
Here, made me hit the button and turn my chair around.

Speaker 4 (20:30):
There was nothing that I saw with Tyler Bidet that
would indicate that and I'm not trying to throw shade
on him like I dislike the player but it's just
full transparency what are we talking about we're talking about
building a team and I know the idea is that
well Tyler Bidet was better on teams than maybe Jaleel
McLaughlin I'm not even sure that is true Ben.

Speaker 1 (20:54):
I'm not sure that's true either I think what Bidet
brings to the table is the pass block and the
pass bro like he brings that to the table we
got that Beyond that, he doesn't catch the ball appreciably well,
doesn't run the ball appreciably well. And I'm like, is
that a skill set that you, I mean, apparently Sean
Payton felt he needed, but is that a skill set
that you're burning a 53-man roster spot for? Nah, throw

(21:14):
that guy, if you want that, throw it up on
the practice squad and call him up if you need
him that game. We're going to go a lot of gun...
You know, heavy throw in. We need a pass pro
back back there. We'll bring him in for this game.
That's that's a practice squad slot. Not a not burning
a 53 man. And it's not like that Tyler Bidet
was going to sit there and just be, you know,
a sought after.

Speaker 4 (21:32):
Right.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
It's not like there's not a line clamoring to go
claim him. So it just doesn't make a whole heck
of a lot of sense to me.

Speaker 2 (21:38):
Jaleel.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
I think I figured, you know, it just got in
the doghouse. And you know how it is. You get
in Sean Payton's doghouse, it's tough to get out. Ask
Marvin Mims.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
You know?

Speaker 1 (21:46):
Sean, Marvin Mims, as long as he does not lose
97 yards on his next punt return, will be the
NFL's all-time leader in punt return average because he needs
one more punt return to qualify. So he will be
the NFL's all-time leader in punt return average with his
next punt return as long as he doesn't lose 97
or more yards.

Speaker 3 (22:02):
Well, here's what I would say.

Speaker 4 (22:05):
Now, I do feel that Jaleel was the better of
the two backs But the better of the three backs
of Jahliel McLaughlin, Talib Bidet, and Cody Schrader was Cody Schrader.
I thought Cody Schrader did himself well running the ball,
catching the ball as well. And maybe the Broncos thought, well,

(22:26):
Jahliel has been here for a while. Like you said, hey,
they were not sweet on Jahliel. And one could say, well,
maybe it was a fumble play. and the game against
the Falcons. To me, if that is the case, it
started long before that fumble in the Falcons game. The
fumble in the Falcons game didn't help, but for me
it's about can a player actually bounce back from a mistake?

(22:49):
And we've seen Jaleel do that. I can't say that
we've seen Tyler Brede do that. And with a lot
of these decisions, let's be totally transparent, it comes down
to who has the most clout in the room when
it comes to putting a roster together. Usually it is
that guy who wins. And if you are on that

(23:10):
guy's side and he has a leaning favor towards you,
most likely you make the team.

Speaker 1 (23:15):
That's part of the reason Jolie and McLaughlin aren't here anymore.
It's because George has the 90 man, but Sean's got
the 53, right? Like George, George brings all the groceries.
You know, George, George brings it in the 90 man. Uh,
but Sean Payton has, you know, the 53. And so that's, that,
that's part of the thing. And so Sean Payton, you know, I,
With the Jolie situation, I think we've been pretty clear

(23:37):
on why that didn't work. And then, although there is
some stuff out there, like Bo Nix and Jolie did
not get in a fight.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
That's not true. I know I saw that on Twitter.
That's nonsense.

Speaker 4 (23:47):
Is there nothing to say that in this game, you're
going to make a mistake?

Speaker 3 (23:51):
You're not going to.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
You're going to make mistakes.

Speaker 1 (23:54):
I guess it's one of those things where people who
are looking for reasons why guys got cut that they're
surprised by because they don't understand the inner workings of something. Um, they,
they tend to magnify certain things. Well, Jolie fumbled once
in seven on seven. So did a lot of guys.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
Like it's, it's happened.

Speaker 3 (24:09):
In seven on seven?

Speaker 2 (24:10):
Yeah, he fumbled in seven on seven.

Speaker 3 (24:12):
In practice?

Speaker 4 (24:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
And so that.

Speaker 3 (24:13):
Are you freaking kidding me?

Speaker 2 (24:15):
And so like, that's, you know, like that happens. Like it,
it happens.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
Um, there's the practice, it's practice, man. It's, it's bleeping practice.
Jalil fumbled twice in games. Well, one of them was
a preseason game, but you know what I mean? Like
he fumbled in games.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
Once you get in Sean Payton's doghouse, man, it's tough
to get out.

Speaker 4 (24:29):
Okay, but where's the room for a player to make
a mistake and have the ability to bounce back from
said mistake?

Speaker 2 (24:37):
Well, that's what practice is for, right?

Speaker 3 (24:39):
That's what I thought practice was for.

Speaker 1 (24:40):
You know, it's just stacking days, do that kind of stuff.
The problem for Jolie wasn't that he fumbled in sevens
or that he one time there was a fight and
he happened to be in it. And no, he was
not fighting Bo Nix. Like, again, I don't know where
this stuff keeps coming from, but... Like, Jolie didn't pick
up the playbook that well, didn't run the crispest routes
in the world, wasn't as great athletically as people tried
to make him out to be. And, you know, at
the end of the day, if you're an off-the-line Y,

(25:01):
we already got one of those in Evan Ingram. You know,
we're not burning another roster spot in an incomplete tight
end room on a guy who's lesser than the guy
you already have.

Speaker 4 (25:07):
Well, see, the idea was that they wanted Jolie to
be more than that. Yeah. And I'm sure that they're
disappointed because the team... is disappointed in what the level
of production they were getting out of Evan Ingram. This
is why you bring in Bentley. This is why you
bring in Jolie, hoping that these guys will adapt to
the system. You know, rookie's going to struggle, but show

(25:30):
some pass-catching ability, at least in the case of Jolie,
to make the team think about pulling the trigger, going
in a different direction when it's concerned to Evan Ingram.
So that didn't happen. They were hoping it happened. They
were hoping Joe Lee would actually come in and really
compete and really show his skill set that attracted George
Payton and the scouting staff when he was at NC State.

(25:53):
That never came to fruition. So now the team had
to really hunker down and deal with the idea and
the concept like, we don't really have what we want.
Even Sean Payton said himself, he was a little unclear
as far as what they have at the tight end position.
So they tried to make the best out of what
they had. And Jolie, you know, had his opportunities. Like

(26:17):
you say, this happens all the time. If a coach
or someone in personnel is on your side, they're going
to find a way to highlight you or take something
that you did in practice or a game and just
overblow it. And the same can happen for a guy
that's having a rough camp.

Speaker 3 (26:34):
Being a young guy.

Speaker 2 (26:35):
And that's part of it.

Speaker 1 (26:36):
I mean, the thing about Jolie and, you know, especially Jolie,
was it was going to be tough to make this
roster anyway.

Speaker 2 (26:42):
It's a pretty stacked roster.

Speaker 4 (26:45):
Right.

Speaker 3 (26:45):
Especially from the tight end.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
I'm just saying you got it. Well, you got bodies
in that room.

Speaker 4 (26:49):
Right.

Speaker 1 (26:49):
You have to offer something that nobody else offers in
that particular case. And are we pretending that he's better
than Evan Ingram? Because, no, he's not. And so you've
got Troutman, Ingram, Nate Adkins and Dallin Bentley in that room.
Adkins is an H-back. Troutman's in line. Bentley is in
line and can block. You know, and then Evan Ingram
gives you that off the line.

Speaker 4 (27:06):
Why?

Speaker 1 (27:07):
You're already paying him and he's more established and frankly,
he's better. So I like that's that's the thing. It's
like you had a tough road to hoe as far
as that stuff goes anyway. So I don't I don't
understand the uproar, the fur over that. I got it
when people were like, oh, my God, they cut Red Murdoch.
Part of being a front office is doing the calculus
on the guys you can sneak back through to your

(27:28):
practice squad. Right. and an inside linebacker who doesn't play
away from the ball, usually going to be pretty easy
to get back to your practice squad.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
So that was the thing.

Speaker 1 (27:36):
They felt pretty confident with the Red Murdoch thing that
nobody was going to claim him and that they could
bring him back. Because were you going to bring a
downhill thumper into your locker room and teach him your
defense this close to the season?

Speaker 2 (27:45):
Probably not.

Speaker 3 (27:46):
No, no, they probably wouldn't.

Speaker 4 (27:49):
Years ago, when the special teams rule were different as
far as coverage, maybe you can get away with it, right?

Speaker 3 (27:56):
But when you... Take a guy and he's Mr. Irrelevant, right?
Unless you block.

Speaker 2 (28:03):
That means every team had like seven chances at this kid.
And we're like, I'm good.

Speaker 3 (28:07):
And they didn't.

Speaker 4 (28:08):
And it's probably something that they saw. Maybe it was
height related. Well, maybe it was how he played the game,
but they passed on it. And I thought he had a,
you know, Red Murdoch had a decent camp, obviously still
trying to learn the system, has his own challenges as
a player. But here's a positive on the situation. If

(28:29):
you're Red and Murdoch, you are Mr.

Speaker 3 (28:31):
Irrelevant.

Speaker 4 (28:33):
And the Broncos paid you more than what they normally
would pay a guy in the seventh round taking at
that position. And you still have a job, albeit you're
on the practice squad. You still have an opportunity to
really compete, develop, show this team what you can actually
be as a player because here's what we know. There

(28:54):
are a lot of fans who are not really happy
about the Broncos' linebacker depth. There are fans who are
not happy about the two Broncos starting linebackers. I think
both of those guys are adequate for right now for
what the Broncos want to do. But the Broncos will
have to make some changes. And who's to say that

(29:14):
they won't over the next two weeks to maybe bring
in some guys?

Speaker 3 (29:17):
Because just because.

Speaker 4 (29:19):
You were cut, you were added to the practice squad,
that doesn't necessarily mean you're going to make opening day
practice squad come Kansas City week.

Speaker 2 (29:27):
Right.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
Just being on the 53 doesn't mean you're going to
make the 53. There's churn and burn with this stuff.
So a lot of that stuff, I think, there's still
some things procedurally to figure out. But that said, Red
Murdoch stands a pretty good shot at being with his
team this year.

Speaker 2 (29:40):
They like him. They wanted to bring him back. And
there you go.

Speaker 1 (29:44):
Despite all the camp coverage, there are some flaws to
his game. I mean, this is a guy who's struggled
going away from the ball. He's pretty much a downhill,
a sideline to sideline guy only. And so that's one.

Speaker 2 (29:55):
Of those things.

Speaker 1 (29:56):
You can't put a guy out there that's a liability
in coverage. Teams are going to pick up on that
right away. So you've got to find situations. If you're
going to call him up and bring him in, there's
going to be situations. Probably start him off on special teams.
See what you can do about goal line situations or
situations that are short yardage that you can bring him
in and get the use out of him. But he's
a liability in coverage. Like, it's not like he's a,
you know, he was Mr. Irrelevant for a reason.

Speaker 3 (30:17):
But I understand that. And, you know, being Mr.

Speaker 4 (30:22):
Irrelevant would indicate that he did, there was something about
his game, Red Murdoch's game, that really didn't appeal to
all 31 other teams. But if I'm Red Murdoch, I'm
saying to myself, I'm looking at other players, even though
it's hard to make the team and have, sustainability in

(30:42):
the NFL being taken in the seventh round. But there
are other guys, and I've seen this guy, and I
know a guy who fits the mold for a Red Murdoch,
and that's Zach Thomas, who was a Hall of Famer.
So I'm not saying Red Murdoch is going to be
the next Zach Thomas, but what I am saying is
that try to take those negative things that people have

(31:05):
said that you could not do, use them as being
motivated factors that to sharpening the other skill set that
you have because the one thing that we kept hearing
about the number of punch-out turnovers that Red Murdoch has forced,
that is something that has traveled with you from your
collegiate career. Try to now use that and get on

(31:28):
the Broncos practice squad, which he is, and try to
develop and develop.

Speaker 3 (31:31):
Some of the other skills.

Speaker 4 (31:33):
Who's to say, Ben, maybe like Zach did, Zach wasn't
the biggest guy, wasn't the fastest guy, but he studied
like a Luke Keekly study. So even if you're not
fast enough to get to where you need to in
pass coverage, guess what? If you are able to anticipate, right,
based on watching film, maybe you don't have to be

(31:54):
that fast because you put yourself in the place to
make a play because you understand what the office is
trying to do. So maybe Red Murdoch can actually get
to that point. And if I were Red Murdoch, I
will watch a lot of those films and clippings of
a Luke Kuechly and, more importantly, a Zach Thomas for motivation.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
Yeah, and he should.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
I mean, you want to look at the greats and
try to get some motivation out of guys who went
through the same path as you. Rookies that did make
the roster, Tyler O'Nedim. I don't think that was a
surprise to anybody. Savion Jones did make it, as well
as Jordan Jackson.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
They did keep the extra defensive in there.

Speaker 1 (32:32):
I think the one that was a little bit surprising
on the defensive side, both JL Skinner and Tyson Anderson
made the roster immediately.

Speaker 2 (32:38):
Some of that may change because they signed Taylor Rapp back.

Speaker 4 (32:42):
See, that is going to be very interesting. But are
you saying that, wait, they didn't sign Taylor Rapp back yet?
Or are you saying they did?

Speaker 2 (32:51):
They did.

Speaker 3 (32:52):
They did. I haven't seen that just yet. But I'll
say this.

Speaker 4 (32:58):
The Broncos need to definitely improve with that fourth safety position,
considering that that third guy who will probably go in
the game would be Devin key, but don't rest on
your laurels. Do not get comfortable because most of the
time when guys survive that, that those first wave of
cuts and the practice watch is set, they go back

(33:22):
on cruise control.

Speaker 3 (33:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (33:23):
I take that back. They have not signed wrap back
just yet. Okay.

Speaker 4 (33:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (33:27):
That's on the doc.

Speaker 4 (33:28):
Sorry.

Speaker 2 (33:28):
It's I'm, I'm conflating. Okay. I'm, Text messages versus... Anyway.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
That's coming.

Speaker 1 (33:35):
As far as the rest of that goes, yeah. So
there may be some stuff there. But getting Tyson Anderson
and JL Skinner five safeties and only five corners is
certainly interesting to me.

Speaker 3 (33:43):
Well, you know what?

Speaker 4 (33:44):
The fact that you kept five safeties... I've never been
on the NFL roster as a player or a coach
when we kept five. Usually, you may keep four safeties.
and keep five corners. And that extra spot goes to
the opposite side of the ball, maybe a tight end,
a receiver, or offensive lineman. But this is going to

(34:05):
be really interesting. And I think the idea of Myles
Scott is going to play into this at some point.
So adding Myles Scott to the practice squad, let's just
say the Broncos want to bring back Taylor Repp at
some point. This is an opportunity for Myles Scott to
really cement himself because... JL Skinner has the longest tenure

(34:27):
right now as a backup in the Broncos secondary, safety standpoint.
Tyson Anderson is coming over because his familiarity or Robert
Livingston's familiarity with Tyson Anderson.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
Right.

Speaker 4 (34:39):
But we haven't really seen anything productive that you can
kind of wave a banner for for either of those guys.

Speaker 3 (34:47):
Or am I missing something?

Speaker 1 (34:49):
I haven't seen anything on Tyson Anderson that suggests that
he's a guy you need.

Speaker 2 (34:54):
That's a relationship signing. And so far we haven't seen
anything yet.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
In terms of JL Skinner, I mean, you know, Vance
went out of his way to say he'd had a
good camp or whatever. But I don't know, like watching that,
I didn't think it was an appreciably great camp as
far as that goes. Maybe it was stuff that was
happening when media wasn't allowed to watch. But in game
and in those media practices, I didn't see anything.

Speaker 3 (35:14):
But then, see, as a.

Speaker 4 (35:15):
Player, you have to be able to transfer whatever you
did in practice.

Speaker 3 (35:21):
Into the game.

Speaker 4 (35:22):
So now coaches, when they evaluate the film and they're
evaluating you opposed to another guy, they have something to
compare to. Well, this guy was great in practice, but
he also doubled down and he was able to do
these things in a particular game.

Speaker 3 (35:38):
So I'm a little baffled by it.

Speaker 4 (35:41):
I'm interested to see how things change or will change
moving forward, but I know the Broncos cannot be satisfied
with some of their depth and where it sits right now.

Speaker 1 (35:51):
Yeah, and that's where it has to be. Broncos country tonight.

Speaker 2 (35:55):
We'll be back after this.
