Speaker 1 (00:00):
Everybody, welcome back to in Broncos country tonight. Benzman Albright
here with you pre Thanksgiving edition. We're gonna go right
out to the KWA commas Perild hotline and bring on
my guy, Nathan Zigura.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Nate.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
How you doing.
Speaker 4 (00:11):
I'm doing well, man, Good to be talking with you.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
Yeah you as well, man.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Looking forward to seeing you Monday night out here in
Denver for this clash of the sudden Titans, as it were,
wrote off the Broncos early in the season.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
The Browns have been written off of the Watson era, but.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Suddenly researching with with Jamis Winston bo Nick's you know,
a guy a lot of people didn't respect coming out,
but a certainly head so far this season. This is
going to be an interesting matchup because you've got a
couple of former Broncos returning in this game and Jerry
Judy and Shelby Harris. You've got a quarterback who's been
carving up zone but going up against a team that
plays a lot of man. How do you view the
(00:49):
suddenly resurging Browns against the Broncos on Monday Night?
Speaker 4 (00:53):
I think it should be a good game. To get
to I think very good defenses. Obviously, statistically the Broncos
have been elite this year. Number three scoring, number three
in total defense, number one in sacks, number one in
the red zone, number one in goal to go situations.
So they've been They've been very impressive. The Browns offensive
line finally at continuity. It's a shame we lost Towan
Jones for the year. He started to play really well
(01:15):
left backle but Formainafetti has did a good job last
week against the Steelers. Be I say, for one play
with was going sackle out in that game. You know,
Jamis has got a willingness to throw the football, throw
the football in the tight windows and to give his
guys opportunities. And he mentioned he's carving up zone. A
lot of our big plays you know, have been against done,
but against the man he's done a good job as well,
(01:37):
especially last week to see other's played a lot of
man Joey Porter Junior, and he mentioned Jerry Judy. You know,
Jerry Duty gave him on some big, big plays in
that game one on one and so he's great. You know,
Jerry Duty over seventy yards receiving in each of the
four games started by Jamis Winston. He's been kind of
top ten in the league in every metric over those
those four games, so you feel pretty good about what's
(01:57):
going on. Nick Chubb getting back into form. He scored
twice last week. You got David Mijoku who's got at
least five catches in five of his last six games,
and so offensively, the Browns are starting to get it
together a little bit. Now. You botch it if you
just looked at the box score and saw you only scored,
you know, fourteen points down in New Orleans. Well was
a team to put up over four hundred yards of
offense about a turnover. So I'm excited about that. And
(02:18):
then on the flip side, at times, you know, Denver
struggled to run the ball, but Bonnick has been sensational.
It's been fun watching them. Eleven touchdowns one and esteptually
is better with his legs. And you got the big
physical receivers Courtland Sutton playing so well, Melee playing well,
and the Browns have a good secondary. So it's at
the quarterbacks. This mda Emerson after the close starts the season.
He's playing well. He's got a lot of size. Denzel Wold,
(02:38):
I think is playing in an all pro level, and
so it's going to be an interesting kind of of
match in that sense of, you know, what's been really
working for the Broncos against the Browns defense.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Talk about Nathan Gerro, the Colaos, the Cleveland Browns, Nate.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
You know.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
One of the things that I think that has opened
some eyes here at Denver certainly raise some eyebrows is,
as you mentioned, the sudden resurgence of Jerry Judy when
the Broncos moved on from him, he signed a contract
with the Browns.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
That raise some eyebrows. Judy was a guy.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Who here in Denver was viewed as a guy with
all the talent in the world, but could never quite
put it together and had some just crushing drops, you
know for the Broncos to what have you attributed his
growth inside that Brown's offense.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
You know, he's been great and I've actually really enjoyed
getting to know him. I think that he was, you know,
disappointed with how his tenure came to an end and
what it ultimately added up to in Denver and wanted
a fresh start to bound said we're going to bring
in and we're going to give you a contract that
actually and I realized at the time why it kind
of raised some eyebrows, But I think now looks like
a pretty good deal for what Jerry Judy's become. And
(03:40):
following the trade of Amari Cooper, you know, young center
Tillman stepped up, and so was Jerry Judy. He's become
a real number one receiver. And everybody watched that Thursday
night game when the Browns needed to play on third
down or they need to play on fours down, it
was Jerry Judy that they went to and he responded
with big catches. So he's been healthy. I think that
obviously helps. He has not had any of those you know,
crippling drops, and maybe he's had one, a big one
(04:00):
that I can remember over the course of the season.
But he's caught pretty much everything thrown his way. He
gets open, he's good after the catch, He's making big
plays down the field, he's running his routes, his releases
at the line of scrimmage are sensational. I mean, he's
winning a lot of times before the ball has even
been snapped. And you know that's one of the things
with Jameis Winston. He touched the receivers here is you
(04:20):
may be the third option on a play gonna you
are gonna get the ball if you're open. He's gonna
go through his progressions and he's gonna get there. And
you know, in the past, a lot of routes that
were quote unquote clear out routes or decoy routes that
you weren't expecting the ball. And with other quarterbacks, perhaps
he's with them, got them no matter left. With Jamis,
you're getting it in. I think Jerry Judy's capitalizing on it.
They've got a good rhythm, a very good rapport going,
(04:41):
and it's you know, it's fun to see. It's kind
of like last year, you know, in the second half
of the season and Mary Cooper really took off with
Joe Flackgough and we're kind of seeing that right now,
Jerry Judy taking off with Jameis Winston at quarterback.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Tongawan Nathan's a girl from the Cleveland Browns, you know,
Nathan I and Broncos fans certainly remember Jerry with those
releases and the dead leg at the top the stem
and how just how great that was good to see
him putting it all together. I want to talk about
the quarterback situation a little bit here. You know, whatever
you think of the Shawan Watson and whatever, that the
productivity did not match with the Browns outlaid for that.
(05:12):
Now you've got Jameis Winston in there, and the offense
really does seem to have a different energy to what
do you attribute that that differing energy?
Speaker 4 (05:19):
And you saw last year with Jeff Flacco, so kind
of the second year in a row, you're seeing the
exact same thing. And what is it. It's a quarterback
who is willing to throw the football down the field.
And I think one of the things for you know,
with the Shawn that unfortunately kind of went away a
little bit was at times his ability to see the
field and then his times his willingness to throw down
the field into some of those tight windows. So I
think he was almost you know, didn't want to make
(05:41):
any mistakes, and he lost on his deep ball accuracy.
Jamis is very similar to Placco. At times he'll throw
it to the other team, but he's also going to
make a ton of plays for you and and push
the ball down the field. And that's where you've seen
the biggest kind of change for the Browns. Is you know,
the average depth of Parket is up. He's pushing the
ball down the field, giving guys in that kind of
inner beat he had, and then vertical, you know, over
twenty eight yards range opportunities to make place. He hits
(06:05):
guys in stride, so that Jerry duty is actually very
good after the catch. We didn't really see that much
early in the season. You're seeing that if you hit
him in stride, he has the ability to tax it
and separate and gain big yards after the catch. We
saw that on that huge catch and run touchdown the
eighty nine yard or against the New Orleans things. So
I think that's the big difference. You know. Obviously, look,
(06:25):
the future at quarterback is very muddy for the Cleveland bounds.
I think you kind of have an idea of what
it cannot be, but what it will be that remains
to be seen. And I think Jamis Winston is trying
to make a paste. And look, you know, I've learned
a lot in my career. Learned a line and he
was spoked. I don't know if you heard him in
his media availability earlier, spoke effusively in his praise for
Sean Payton from his time with him, But he's a
(06:46):
guy that, you know, perhaps I think he has learned
these things. Obviously, he is such an interesting person. He
is always on. That is not an act. Everybody sees
those pregame interviews. That's not that's just that's who he is.
But he's done a great job of kind of putting
it all together. And I think he's trying to play
his way into, you know, being in the mix to
be the starter next year of the Cleveland drowns and
(07:06):
the part. He's made a pretty good case.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
Yeah, I would tend to agree. I wanted to ask
you a little bit about Cedric Tillman. Not really a
national name, but my fantasy team certainly enjoyed him for
a couple of weeks there. How healthy is is Tilman?
He's UNI, He would be good to go for this game.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
Yeah, the Browns are certainly hopeful. He's in the concussion protocol.
Took kind of a nasty forearm to the head from
Patrick Queen in that Thursday night game. It helps that
it's a little bit later in the week and they
helped so. But Seda Tillman's big, strong, fast, physical receiver
was very good in the SEC where he averaged over
seventeen yards to catch at Tennessee, played invest against you know,
Alabama and Georgia. Those were his biggest games in college.
(07:41):
So he's a guy who just really didn't get many opportunities,
and then following the trade of Amari Cooper, he got
a lot more opportunities and he certainly has made the
very very most of them. He is physical, as I said,
at the point of attack, He's able to get down
the field to get behind the defense. He high points
the ball very well. He's good on kind of those
inward breaking slant and dig and curls. In terms of
(08:01):
using his body to steal defenders and make tough catches,
he drags defenders forward after the catch. I think the
Browns found a good one. The Browns has struggled in
the draft, there's no secret about it at finding wide receivers.
But Cedric Tillman looks to be a guy that you know,
has a lot of few promise here and there's going
to be a starter for the Browns for a while.
And you know, James was talking about him today and
said he's the guy that not only you know when
(08:22):
I know I need a big, tough catch in traffic
I can go to. But he does the thing that
you got to do as a as a wide receiver
in today's NFL, if you want to play on the
field and play all the snaps and that he's a
great run blocker and they can use him. He's physical
and they use him in a lot of different ways.
And so the Browns are very Before he had that
explosion for your fantasy team, had three catches from nine
yards on the season, and then now all of a sudden,
(08:44):
he's playing every snap, he's getting opportunities, and he's been
very good.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Yeah, I was talking with Dathan Segura here data real quick.
Last one on the offensive side the ball. You know
le Broncos, you know, the tight end room has not
been great at Adam Trout and Lucas Croll. They just
moved on for Greg Dulsich. Nay Atkins played out of
an h back that they just have. It's been a
dearth of talent there. I mean, while you look over
here at the Browns, you've got an all world athlete
David and Joku, who you know at times has had
a few drop issues. Brotherwise, it's been a pretty good,
(09:09):
pretty good Titus. So much so that Broncos fans wanted
to trade Buns ever come close to trading and Djoku away.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
And how vital is he to their success on the stretch?
Speaker 4 (09:17):
Yeah, I don't think they even entertained that at all.
In fact, it was shot down right away. He's very
vital because not only is he a very good pass
catch or a seam stretcher, he's good after the catch.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
You know.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
Last year over eighty catches eight hundred yards, and his
Pro Bowl season, he's one of the best blocking tight
ends in the league as well, and so he is
a real complete package and they like him a lot.
The Browns also have Jordan Aikins. They used kind of
as more as a wide receiver in a tight end role,
and he's made some big catches for us. This year,
they got a young guy, Blake Whiteheart, who had an
incredible catch on Thursday night and then had a great
(09:48):
block one on one on Cam Hayward, which I couldn't
believe it when I was watching on the tape of
Mick Chubb's game winning touchdown run. It was Blake Whiteheart
on the back side and that's right where Nick Chubb
went winning one on one with Sam Hayward. So, but
back to your original b. David Ajoku is an essential
part of what the Browns do. He has definitely become
a leader on this football team. His toughness is unmatched.
For those who don't know, he almost had his like
(10:08):
he did it. Literally had his face burned off in
an accident and at home and his hands were burned
and went out and played and cut six passes against
the Ravens two days later. I didn't even like put
a helmet on. So incredibly tough. Now, I think he's
one of those guys that'll be he might be a
lifer with the Browns, kind of like Goolbotonia.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
No, that'd be a be a great story too, because yeah,
I remember that with the burn and then you're right
back out there to play tough. For me, I got
a hangnail it a mom like boss. So I'm not
sure I can do my show. And I said, no,
I'm kidding up. Well, I said last question on the offense,
but a lot. I got one more here. Nick Chubb
coming back off that big time injury. He's the back
last couple of games. How close is he to one
hundred percent?
Speaker 4 (10:45):
You know, I think He's probably on the way there.
But what is one hundred percent going to be relative
to what one hundred percent used to be. This was
a very serious injury. We likely won't know the answer
to that until next season. But you're seeing, though, is
the power is coming back. He doesn't quite have that
kind of first that he used to have in terms
of kind of where he could stop, jump, cut and
(11:06):
accelerate and help run people in addition to run through them.
It's getting better every week, but you know, Nick Chubb
was special. Nick chubbleins, in my opinion, the best if
you're running back in the National Football League. You know,
he and Derreck Henry basically led in every single category
since Nick Chubb had been in the league. I hope
that he can get all the way back. That was
a very very significant injury. But what we're seeing are
(11:29):
very very positive signs. And his story is so good.
And you think about how poetic injured against the Steelers
comes back and gets two touchdowns in the snow against them,
including the game winner. It was it was awesome. He
is beloved. Comes to Fancy said, look, I'm not even
gonna try to hide it. He's my favorite player on
this football team, and he has beloved in the locker room,
beloved in the city, and it's awesome to seed him back.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
And what a high football like Q play there at
the end that first Carrie to make sure that he
got tackled before scoring. You know in that play, you
know the distinguish should have shoved him in the end
zone and they would have had forty more seconds and
maybe come leave the comeback.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
Meanwhile, Nick chob high IQ.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
Guy sort of slows it up a little bit right
before crossing the goal line and they tackle him in bows.
They drain another forty seconds and shut off any chance
at the comeback by the Steelers. I absolutely love that
a story even at the TV or that Steelers defense,
like what are you doing? Look at the defense for
the Browns run by Jim Schwartz. It's not it's not
something that where they disguise a bunch of stuff and
they're gonna fake you out. They're just going to be
very good at exactly what they do. Always respected that
(12:23):
about Jim Schwartz. Tell us a little bit about that
Browns defense, and if you don't mind touching on Shelby
Harris a little bit to former Bronco.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
Yeah, it's an aggressive defense. It's going to be a
lot in the middle of the field, close, single high safety,
man on the outside, Cover three. Cover three, see where
they carry that vertical from the seam spot. That's kind
of who they are. They don't deviate from that at time.
You'll see some quarters, you'll see some Cover two in
kind of where they want to play a real shell
and keep a lid on things.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
But for the most part, this is a team that's going.
Speaker 4 (12:50):
To play a lot of man defenses to cover one
is anybody in an asshole football league, and they're gonna
come after you. And Miles Garrett, you know, Ragning Defensive
Player of the Week, second game this year. He's had
a hat trick of Zach in the first half. He's
a game wrecker. That the same Mike Hall went down
our second rounder. He was really starting to show some flashes.
But you know, we've got a couple of older players
in the middle that are very good. Shelby Harris and
(13:11):
if you watch, you know Miles textra fumble of Russell Wilson.
It was Shelby Harris dominating the guard the left under
the Pittsburgh Steelers and forcing him to step up where
Miles was able to knock that ball out. He's had
a great season, made a lot of plays behind the
line of scrimmage. He's always good, and you know this,
getting his hands up and getting him on the football,
whether that's blocking kicks as he has five in his career,
or getting those mats at the line of scrimmage. He's
(13:32):
been sensationial as that as well. So it's been a
very good year for Shelby Harris. He always excited to
go back to Denver, I know that, and the Browns
are lucky to have him. And you know Dalvin Tomlins
and last week ten pressures most charted by PFS from
an interior defensive lineman in any game this year. You know,
those two together are playing very good football despite being
in this league for a while.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
Yeah, it's fun to see show Shelby was a fan
favored here. It's fun to see him succeeding. Obviously, I
don't really yeah, I don't really want a ton of
success in this one, but overall it's fun for I
would say, if you get a chance talk to Shelby
in that locker room, you need to try to take
him some turkey.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
He hates that.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
He calls it dry bird. It's been a bit uh
here at Denver for the better part of a decade.
So we need to uh, we need to get that
guy converted over and be one of these one of
these turkey eating people instead of an anti turkite.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
No, he's an anti turk kite, and I think there
are many on our football team. It's an overrated person.
At the bottom line, I think you know, Shelby's looking
forward to getting back to Denver and going to Garden Grace.
That's where he's always hold us going.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
So it has been.
Speaker 4 (14:26):
Last year when we were there, it was tremendous.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
So just doing that again, Yeah, real quick, last one
for me here, uh Nate talking again with Nathan Sakura.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
You know last year the Broncos came.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Out and they did they did do that defensive front
what you need to do and let's run that trap game.
That's that's kind of how you beat that, that defensive front.
But this year, the Brown's going to be prepared for it.
It's not catching anybody by surprise. What is what is
maybe your pulse of what they feel like they need
to do to shut this team down and how do
you see this thing going?
Speaker 4 (14:53):
Yeah, kind of always the same thing, and the you know,
the bunkals have struggled at time to run the ball
this year. I know Javonte had a unique line last week,
eight carries for a negative two yards, even though he
had a long run of you know, you got to
you gotta limit the chunk runs with McLoughlin. And then
the thing that's really been an achilles heel for the
Browns this year, no pun intended, is you know, stopping
kind of those jet sweeps or you know, the reverses.
(15:15):
And I've you know, watching Denver against Vegas. You know,
Mims has so much speed. They're going to have to
be really good at containing and setting the edge in
kind of those outside wide runs. And I think their
goal is going to be, look, get bo Nicks into
obvious third and long, obvious passing situations, eliminate the benefit
of play action, and then go get after him, Miles Garrett,
(15:36):
get after him. This line that can get to the quarterback,
generate pressure, play tight man coverage on the outside, and
go to battle with those physical, big receivers of the
Broncos and see if you can't make some plays there.
But Nix as I said, you know that sounds only
one pick in his last five games. He's not really
turning the football over. But that's got to be. The
game plan is make them a one dimensional offense. And
(15:56):
the reality is as we talked about, you know, guys,
not run the ball, eat all year long, but really
be cognizant of you know, not let it in anybody
behind you, not giving up the chunk plates. I think
it's gonna be part of the game.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Planners.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
Make them run a lot of plays to get points,
keep them on the field because long, and keep the
offense on the field. The more plays you run, the
more chance for a mile to be disrupted, more chance
for you to make a play.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
Absolutely, Nathan's a Girl. We appreciate it as always. Look
forward to seeing you Monday night. Brother.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
You got it man.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
Thanks absolutely, take care. Nathan's a Girl. Cleveland Browns color
at us.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
We come back. We got Parker Gabriel right here on
Broncos Country to I all right, welcome back to.

entire holiday season waiting for the next episode to drop.
Grant So, no pressure, no pressure at all. We're gonna
run out to the kn't wait, comes pierreld hot Long.
I had to bring on our guy, Parker Gabriel at
Parker J. Gabriel on the Twitter machine.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
Parker, how you.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Doing, I'm doing great, Ben hi doing?
Speaker 1 (17:07):
Now you are you pro Turkey or anti Turkey? Because
we have a schism in this country. We're divided along
Turkey lines.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
And I gotta know, yeah, I am. I am pro Turkey,
but I'm also pro Ham. So like that's I guess
I'm just easy going? Is is? Uh? Is the bid?
I am? I do like Turkey, but if I were,
I found that Ham is just a lot easier to
deal with. And so like, if I'm making Thanksgiving dinner,
(17:33):
I'm I'm hearing what the guests think in terms of turkey.
But Ham has probably been like the go to.
Speaker 1 (17:40):
Okay, So yeah, for a minute there, I was gonna say,
you're like a galitarian, but really you're just lazy.
Speaker 3 (17:44):
You just Ham's just easier.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
Yeah. Galitarian, that's just like a fancy word for lazy.
Speaker 5 (17:51):
Oh, I love it. Parker Gabriel and Parker J. Gabriel
on Twitter. Man Broncos surprising everybody nationally. We're at to
seven and five. This team is starting to look better
and better as it goes. Bo Nicks is proving a
lot of the pre draft stuff pretty wrong. As we
look ahead to Monday Night Football, a primetime game for
this team to announce that they have in.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
Some way arrived, I feel like, how do you view.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
This one with a Cleveland Browns team that suddenly looks
a lot better with Jameis Winston at the helm?
Speaker 2 (18:20):
Yeah, definitely. I mean it's it's not an easy one, right,
I Mean, Denver is a sizable favorite, and rightfully so,
given what they've done and the issues that Cleveland has had.
But the Browns, you know, they they have some pieces
on defense. Obviously, Jamis has helped some of their receivers,
including Jerry Judy, play a lot better at least put
up quite a bit better numbers over the past few weeks.
(18:41):
Like I don't I don't think it's in a particularly
easy matchup. That doesn't mean that Denver you know, isn't
going to win or shouldn't win, but it's it's going
to be a good one, And I just think it's
like it's such a it's a pivotal moment for the
Broncos in a lot of ways because it's a chance
to get to that three games over five hundred mark,
(19:03):
which you know hasn't been in quite a while, especially
this late in the season. Uh, it's a chance to
really solidify its positioning in the playoff picture, especially depending
on sort of what else happens this weekend in the
NFL slate, And then not only that, but given the
late by week, it's a you know, it's going to
determine the mood with which this team goes into a
(19:27):
Week fourteen by so across the board, it's one of
those where it's just like, if you get a win,
you are in great position. You've announced yourselves to the
league and you've got high spirits for a week off,
and if you lose, you know, it's sort of the
opposite on all of those factors, even though they'd still
be in you know, pretty decent shape at least in
terms of the playoff picture.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
Right, talking with Parker Gabriel, you know, as we as
we look at this matchup, Cleveland as a defense plays
a lot of man coverage, a lot of Millfield closed
type stuff. You know, they've got the obviously the big
time defensive in their mouths Garrett, but Shelby Harris also
loan that defensive line is has been thrust into into
a larger role into playing pretty well there. How do
(20:11):
you view bow Knicks up against his defense.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Yeah, well that's been sort of the I don't know
about the Rubb, but certainly you know bow Nicks the
last few weeks that the times when he looks the
most comfortable has been has been against zone. Obviously, they've
done good things in both the splits were were I
guess particularly Stark you might say this past Sunday and
the win against the Raiders zone versus man. So it's
(20:36):
you know, it's an interesting matchup. Certainly it's going to
be as much of a test that is as I
think for BO. I think it's a test for some
of the other pieces around. It's a good test for
the receivers of like, hey, you know, you're going to
have to create separation and win against man coverage. It's
a really good test for the offensive line, which is
which has played pretty well last year the game that
(20:58):
they beat Cleveland, and you know, Garrett Boles played one
of the best games of his career frankly against Miles
Garrett and held up really well. So the reprisal of
that matchup, obviously, you know, it's not just going to
be one on one the whole game, but the reprisal
of that matchup matters a lot too for Bonix's comfort level.
So I just think it's, you know, it's a it's
(21:18):
a pretty good matchup, and it's one where the Broncos
maybe we'll have to show that they can do some
things that haven't been strong suits necessarily, but it's not
like it's not a challenge that can't be overcome.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
Last year, I thought Sean Payton had maybe his most
brilliant game as a play caller.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
Certainly the way they schemed it up.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
They ran trap game on Cleveland, took that offense of
the defensive line out of what was that they are
most successful at. Obviously, the Browns are going to see
that coming this year. It's going to be interesting to
see what wrinkle Peyton throws at him. I suspect it'll
be in the screen game. Denver's run the second most
screens in the NFL this year, Cleveland twenty fifth and
success rate allowed on screen passes this year. Who does
that tend to benefit? Maybe a Troy Franklin and a
(21:59):
Marvin Mims.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
Yeah, I think so, I think so. I think Marvin
is sort of an interesting figure in this game just
because of the way that his roles sort of evolved.
And you know, there's the sub storyline of part of
the stated justification for trading Jerry Judy as well. You know,
Judy was a big part of the reason why Mims,
you know, played the limited role that he played as
(22:22):
a rookie. Obviously that hasn't carried through this year. Like
Marvin M's role has been much different than just stepping
in and playing sixty percent of the snaps. But yeah,
given what he can do, you know, aligned in the backfield,
aligned in the slot, in the screen game, a little
bit in the rushing game and all of that. He's
(22:42):
one of those guys. I think that if you're looking
for the sort of you know, matchup driven storylines in
this game, like, he's a very interesting one.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
Well, you mentioned Jerry Judy dovetails right next to my
next question here Jerry Judy getting a bit of a
career renaissance here with Jameis Winston at the helm for
the Browns. Whatever you think of Deshaun Watson, they certainly
didn't get the productivity they expected out of him for
the dollars that they spent. That situation looks like it's
done there in Cleveland. Winston making a case for himself
and frankly has a quited himself pretty well of the
(23:14):
last four weeks. Jerry Judy, though, having like I said,
a career renaissance. How big do you think this one
matters to Jerry Judy?
Speaker 2 (23:20):
Oh? I think it matters a lot. I mean, you know,
you always want to play well against the team that
you used to play for and the team that drafted you,
and so I'm sure he'll be I'm sure he'll be
motivated it hasn't always been those games where you know
he's been at his best, but certainly, like it's a
I think you can flip it the other way and
say it's a unique match up there. I mean, the
(23:41):
thing that Jerry's always been, you know, the one thing
he's sort of been exceptional at is he's really good
against man coverage, and oh what do you know? The
Broncos play a ton of man coverage, and so that's
a that's a good on good matchup there. You know,
Jerry has had spurts where he's produced like a number
one receiver in his career. The end of the twenty
twenty two season was that, and so like obviously, you know,
(24:05):
like for the long term Jerry judy career arc, you know,
I think you want to see him carry this on
more than four or five weeks before you say like, yep,
that is yes, you know, Cleveland was right to give
him fifty seven million and all of that stuff. But
like he's rolling right now and they play the Broncos
on Monday, So that's a that's a pretty spicy one,
(24:27):
and I would imagine that that Jerry Judy would be
fired up.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Do you think we'll see Sirtan on Judy as the
matchup in this one. You know, obviously the Browns have
got some of the receivers that are fairly decent. But
it feels to me like that's going to be the
matchup one that obviously both those guys have seen plenty
in practice.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
Yeah, I would think, so, I don't know that, but yeah,
that that tracks to me. And then and then you know,
that leaves you in an interesting situation with the rest
of the secondary given you know, I mean, we'll see
with Riley Masmei Shan, so they thought about putting him
back in the game, you know, will see if they
if he pushes to try to play, or if that's
more of an after the bye week thing. But then yeah,
(25:06):
I mean, they've got other weapons that you have to
deal with. And so you know how Riley Muster, Levi
Wallace and then you know, Jakwan McMillan and the Safeties
sort of like how they piece the rest of the
picture together. If Pat is mostly traveling with Jerry Judy
would be be pretty interesting to watch.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
Talker Parker Gabriel at Parker J. Gabriel on Twitter.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
How surprised were you that the Broncos activated Drew Sanders.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
Not very I just thought, you know, it's like it's
not like we see a lot of practice, but you know,
you see the little viewing periods and all that, and
I just it's he's looked explosive and that's always been
a calling card in those short little windows that we get.
Normally it's just individual work. But I you know, it
didn't and maybe didn't line up ideally from like a
(25:52):
positional standpoint. They have four guys that they have been
playing and that they like, and they clearly were not,
you know, willing subject Andre Tillman to waivers. But if
it's a guy that can help you, and then it's
an athletic, you know, kid who you have high hopes
for for the future. I just always figured that, you know,
(26:14):
different than the Laryn Turner yell. If it's a guy
that you think is going to be potentially you know,
squarely in your defensive rotation, you got to do it.
It's not like they could have done it in three
weeks given when they started his window, it's now or never,
and so you know, I just I pretty much expected
it all along once his window opened, that they knew
he was he was coming back regardless of what the
(26:35):
roster picture looked like. And what will be interesting will
be how quickly and how thoroughly they they put him
into their rotation defensively.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
God, it will be fascinating to watch. As we look
at the schedule, we look at the Broncos at seven
to five, We look at the remaining schedule shaping up
pretty nice over the next few weeks before you hit
the long jam there at the end. What is your
confidence level on this team potentially making the playoffs?
Speaker 2 (27:02):
Yeah? Pretty high, honestly, And I was a skeptic at
the beginning of the season. But at this point, like
it's right in front of you, you know, and you've
got the like, you know, if you're like in the
NCAA tournament, right, if you're a thirteen seed or something,
and and you're hanging in there with a four seed,
and for a while it's just a nice story, and
then there comes a tipping point where it's like, well, okay,
(27:23):
now you actually got to win. They've sort of hit
that point, like they've exceeded expectations, external expectations, but now
it's like, Okay, it's right in front of you, So
now you've got to go do it. You know, you
got you got to finish this off. You got to
make it to the postseason. And I think they're pretty
well equipped to do that. Like they've found a formula
offensively that works. It's not going to result in you know,
(27:45):
thirty eight or twenty nine points every week, but but
it has shown some sustainability. And they're really good on defense,
and you know, defense is portable, and so they've just
and the schedule lines up for them and the number seven,
like the field looks good for them and all that,
Like it's right in front of them, and I think
at this point, you know, it would be a disappointment
to everybody involved if it doesn't happen.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
Well, let's talk about a disappointment a little bit here.
The CEEU buffs lean out. I don't want to say it.
I don't say an egg against Kansas, but all week
I was sitting there saying, hey, I'm worried about these games.
Kansas is a much better football team than the record
they are. They were a team that had won three
of their last four prior to the Buffs, and the
only loss was a two point loss against ranked k
State at k State, the Buffs come out and show
(28:29):
that they just can't handle the run, like they cannot
stop the run. Uhait What does this mean for CU
football down the stretch?
Speaker 3 (28:35):
What does this mean for CU football going forward?
Speaker 2 (28:38):
Yeah, it was. You know, when you don't punt when
another team doesn't punt, I think you can constitute that
as laying an egg, like I think you're on I
think you're on safe ground there. And yeah, I mean, listen,
Lance Leipold is a really good coach at KU and
that's that they they got got and now you know,
I think they need some help to get in and
all of that. I'm not sure, like you know, obvious,
(29:00):
actually you have to be able to do it right.
Like not every team in that conference is built to
line up and run the football at you. Not every
team in the conference has a back like Devin Neil.
And so it's not like I think it could hurt
them obviously down the stretcher in a bowl game. But
in terms of just like you know, generally speaking, it happened,
(29:22):
and now you've got to try to figure out how
to how to deal with it the rest of the way.
And it's like it's like anything in life like you
can have you can have elite talent at quarterback and
at the skilled positions and all of that, but like
at some point, football, you know, is a game about
the trenches, and you know that they're certainly not the
only team that that's that, that's weird, it's ugly head
(29:43):
for but it's one roster building beyond this year and
thinking about a post Shedur and Travis Hunter era like that.
That will be one of the big challenges is to
build a solid core, you know, from the inside out.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
Tygo with Parker, gabro Parker, what was the big you're
disappointment the CU Buffs against Kansas or the distinct lack
of Patriots and by Notre Dame running it up forty
nine to fourteen on my beloved Army.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
Yeah, that's no good. You can't you can't be you
can't be blown out Army that you know, that's not
what we want season. But yeah, it was not a
good weekend for the Buffs or the Black Lives.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
No, it certainly certainly was not batch up here at
the Broncos against the Browns. The Browns are not very
what I would call clever defensively. It's it's, uh, what
you see is.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
What you get.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
They're gonna run to say, they're gonna be running one thing,
and that's what they're gonna be running. There's not a
whole lot of disguise to what they do. Jim Schwartz,
I've always liked that about him and the fact that
he's like, this is what we're gonna do. We're gonna
be very good and we'll dare you to beat us.
As we look at bo in his growth thus far,
there there have been some struggles specifically against teams that
can get pressure on the quarterback and specifically and very
(30:53):
well what is our conference.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
Level that he takes the next step against his defense?
Speaker 2 (30:58):
Yeah, I mean I think I think you'd expect him
still to play well. He's just he's been on a
roll recently, and like he said, I mean, it's not
like he hasn't done everything perfectly and all that. But
one of the things that that we've learned about Bownix
really like from training camp on is after he sees
something for a couple of times, the comfort level comes
pretty quickly. And so obviously he hasn't seen Jim Schwartz
(31:19):
a couple of times, but he's now he's gotten a
little bit more of a rolodex of different things that
teams try to do against them, and like, you know,
you build on that for as long as you play
in the game, Like it could be ten years from now,
and if Boe is still playing, it'll be well, you know, yeah,
you've learned a lot, you know, over the course of
your career. So obviously, like Rolodeck's still small and just
(31:41):
beginning to build, but he's shown that as he puts
things sort of like in his mind, then he's been
able to carry that forward. And so you know, I
wouldn't be surprised if he plays well, but certainly, like
you said, it's a little bit of a different foul
challenge than he's had the past few years.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
Time Parker Gabriel Parker got abou two minutes left or
the run game is gonna have to be a big
factor in taking that defensive line and making it less aggressive,
being able to pin their ears back against ball, which
running back. Am I going to be totally wrong on
getting the workload this week?
Speaker 2 (32:12):
Let's say, you know, last couple of weeks, Davante has
been the main guy. So if we assume that that's
going to carry forward. Then we'll all wake up Tuesday
and be like, Wow, rodri Cessimy got nineteen carries. That's interesting.
So I think you'll see all three. Obviously, last year
against Cleveland was you know, maybe the most dedicated to
(32:33):
the run type of plan that Sean Payton's had in
his time in Denver. Does the game play out exactly
like that? I don't know. I think it'll be a
little different at least, but yeah, it's interesting. They've gotten
some good things from all three of those guys. Maybe
it'll be Julie McLaughlin twenty touches or something like that
that would maybe be a little bit more of a surprise.
(32:54):
But I think, you know, the thing with Davante has
been early in the game, does he look like he's
got juiced? If he us, they roll with them, and
if it's a little bit slow going, then then they
put Addrick Estime in there and let him try to
provide some bursts. So I would say it's a total
coin flip. I'd be a little surprised if Audrick Estimate
(33:15):
played ten snaps and got two carries.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
All right, fair enough, Parker would appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (33:19):
I hope you have a great Thanksgiving and happy Thanksgiving
to you and yours and look forward to seeing you
there Monday night.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
Yep, same to you and yeah we'll see them all right.
Speaker 3 (33:27):
Take care, Parker Gabriel and Parker J. Gabriel on Twitter
