Speaker 1 (00:00):
Video, sixth story, then a few bucks for men's basketball
right here on koa Tall.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
I don't take it on South Dakota State jack Rabbits
Basketball Action.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
I'll be right here with Mark Johnson on the call
right the toy the eyes I tried to get granted.
Did get him to do that on They Take It
for Granted podcast? That's a that's my goal. Mark Johnson
is one of the greatest. I mean, that voice is
in real it is It's phenomenal, it's fantastic. I'm the
world's biggest fan of me. I'm like, it's just one

(00:34):
of those things. I uh, and I always talk about
the story, but there was somebody did. Damian Amadalara from
CBS did a thing about all the announcers over the
court over the country a couple of years ago. And yeah,
he did the one for the Sacramento Kings. Guys like
the most soft spoken announcer, you know, it's like and
he group us up the court with the dipsy doodle
you know, like that, you know, and then uh, and
then the most aggressive one was like Mark Johnson, and

(00:55):
he was like, I forget which one he did, like,
but that was the one I was imitated afterwards, and
it was like, you know, it's so it's so like
when you listen to Mark Johnson called basketball, like you're like,
oh okay, it's not like when you listen to basketball
could be tough because the squeaking on the court from
the shoes and it just sometimes it gets annoying.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
With Mark never gets annoying. I'm gonna be listen to
it tonight. No, it's his call of the Uh. What
was the Ukon upset at the end, there was just amazing.
He's such a fun game.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Yeah, it's you know, I I am uh, I am
a big fan. So I'm looking forward to that. That'll
be coming up here bottom of the hour.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Uh. And then of course West War Broncos Country tonight
after the basketball game, so you guys can stick around
for that.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Five six six nine zero is the text line. You
guys will get involved in the conversation.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Last Night's Ridiculousness drew twelve point twelve nine million to
watch six field goals happen in the rain. That was
that game and everything about that game were utterly ridiculous.
You had fan duel with the props before the game.
They'd got nuked by the betters. Then they pulled them

(02:05):
because they didn't realize that they actually put them out
in the anytime TD props and they had way inflated odds.
They did not mean to put it out there, so
they yank them, and then none of the touchdowns hit. Yeah,
so then you had some betters on Twitter whining, well,
there was no touchdown, so there's.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
No winnable outcomes, so they should have to refund the money.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
And I'm like, bro, they pulled They gave you these
incredible odds, you bet it. Then they took them down
and said they'd honor their part of it, Like it's
rare that you're sitting there caping for the sports book,
but in this particular case, I'm like, man, you guys
are the ones that went out and hammered these things
after they made the mistake.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
Yeah, I mean, there's nothing. It's definitely not a non
winnable outcome. Someone easily could have scored a touchdown in
that game. It just didn't happen. And I wasn't caught
up in the whole FanDuel of it all. But that's
the first time for me personally, I've had a first
time first touchdown that not cash, not because I picked
the wrong guy, but because there just wasn't a touchdown, right,

(02:58):
So there.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
Was there was certainly that, but it got great ratings.
I mean, that's the thing on a bad night, and
normally you'd think a Rams Niners game would be a
pretty compelling, pretty compelling game, but it was really not.
We have two Thursday Night football contests remaining, and Prime
of course will get one of the playoff games. Obviously
Broncos Chargers will be the next Thursday night game.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
We've got the h.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
We've got the Colts game this Sunday, which course you
get right here on ka and then we got the
Thursday night football game, which can also here on KAB,
but it'll be visually on Thursday Night Football. You think
you could use the there's an app and I forgot
what it was now I had a written down that
allows you to sync up the audio from the radio
with the television screen if you're streaming it. So I'll
try to find that out before next Thursday, because I

(03:44):
get asked about that a lot.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
That's a great idea. Yeah, well, it'll sync up the.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Radio broadcast with the TV so you could listen to
your favorite you know KA broadcast and watch it on
TV at the same times. That of having to turn
one down and turn the radio up, and you got
a streaming TV, lets you do the whole thing.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
So I will. I'll get you guys here on that.
I had that. Now I can't seem to find her
up put it. The game was.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
That was just a brutally boring game, first game of
the season, with neither team scoring a touchdown.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
I don't know if people were tuning in or tuning out.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
The twelve point twenty nine was the recorded number at
the end of that, and that is quite a bit.
Also had some interesting drama on the sidelines. I guess
Devondre Campbell, who had been replaced in the starting lineup
by a suddenly returned from injury Drake Greenlaw, decided in

(04:39):
the third quarter even.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Want to play.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
After green Law got banged up, they asked him to
go in and said, now I don't feel like plany today.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
He went off the sideline back to the locker room,
checked out. Today.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
The Niners announced they're gonna get rid of him. He
won't be welcome back with the team now. How they
do that remains a matter of semantics. At this point,
whether they suspend him first or however they do that,
I have a feeling they'll suspend him the remainder of
the year, conduct detrimental, try to take back as much
money as they can, will not offer him the chance
to sign with anyone else. Teams tend to be spiteful

(05:10):
when you do stuff like that. There very many quit
on the side, you know kind of things. I mean,
I think everybody remembers Antonio Brown.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
The one that came to mind to me.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
I have spaced Antonio Brown on Fonte Dante Davis, but
he retired at halftime.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
A little bit different. He did retire. Deontay Johnson refused
to go into the game against the Eagles earlier this year,
and he got suspended one game for conduct detrimental.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
But the other one that I could think of was
Steelers running back Legarrett Blunt. Guys, you remember this one.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
I don't remember that one at all. Blud did what
Campbell did. He walked off the field during a game.
The Steelers cut him the next day. Blouc got the
last laugh, landed with the Patriots and won a Super Bowl.
Ring scored three touchdowns in the deflate Gate game, which
was that forty five seven beat down of the Colts,
and Blout later attributed his behavior to the failure of

(06:05):
then Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley to play him. Wild
said he probably didn't do it the most ethical way,
but everybody gets to a point where respect goes a
long way whenever he respects him.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
When it goes a long way.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
When I'm going to Todd and asking what's going on,
why am I not playing, You're telling me we're going
to make sure we get you in there. We're gonna
make sure we get this together for you. I go
out there and have zero carries. Blow pointed out that
he left the field while the Steelers were in victory formation.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Still he wanted out and got what he wanted. I guess.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
Campbell has refused has yet to give his side of
the story for his refusal to play yet, so I
would like to hear that. But that does seem pretty
bizarre to just, you know, be basically the starter most
of the year.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
And see it almost it comes across like you're sulking.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
You know, it comes across like you'resaulting that you're sulking
that Drake Greenlaw to you know, got to go back
in there to start because of you, well you just
or did you suddenly feel it was unsafe in the rain.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Yeah, you're gonna have to really do some mental gymnastics
to try and make it acceptable. And even if you
could do that in this case, I don't think you
can do that or in some other cases, I don't
think you can do that in this case specifically because
look at the guys on the forty nine ers roster.
Ricky Pearsall is playing after getting shot or in the
chest earlier this year, Trent Williams and Sharvarius Ward. Trem

(07:33):
Williams is working his way back for an injury. But
Tarvarius War one of the guys in that locker room
who said, you know that we should cut this guy.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
He lost a child earlier this year. Same thing with
Trent Williams.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
Like they're playing through they So whatever excuse to Andre
Campbell might be able to come up with, if it
is something away from the football field or whatever, I
think it might fall on deaf ears because Ricky Pearsall
got shot, He's still playing. Trent Williams and Tarvarius Ward
have had family tragedies. They're still showing up for their teammates.
It's of all the team in the league, this is
one where you're not going to get away with us.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
It's funny because Demandra Campbell had a good reputation prior
to this.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
He's a former All Pro player.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
He was Green Bay Packers nominee for Walter Payton Mann
of the Year. He's never had a significant issue that
I can think of, or even a you know, a
small issue that I can think of over the years.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
He was originally drafted by the Falcons back in twenty sixteen.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
But he I mean, he's played for He played for
the Falcons, he played for the Cardinals, I think for
a season, he played for the Packers. He signed a
one year deal this year to play for the Niners.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
But man, it was just yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
It was one of those things that was just absolutely
mind blowing that you just you just told your coach, now, bro,
I'm good not going in.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
You're not getting benched.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
For like I don't know, Jonas Griffith or you know,
some guy being elevated off the practice squader.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
It's straight Greenlow.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
It's the guy who was the order that at the beginning
of the city.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
You are behind him at the beginning of the.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
Year, former All Pro, like our borderline all pro at
the very least, like elite, elite talent.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
I mean, it's not a slight to be behind that guy.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
Yeah, it's yeah. It was just fascinating to me. And
you know, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
Other news the Saints that they did not rule.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
Out Derek Carr for Sunday's game against the Commanders, but
we know he's not going to be starting that our
mead coach Dark Rizzy confirmed that Jake Hayner will start
that game. He did this afternoon's press conference. It will
be Han's first NFL start. Carr has a left hand
injury and a concussion. Rizzy said he still could be

(09:45):
cleared to serve as the team second or third quarterback
on Sunday. If he is the backup, Rookie Spencer Rattler
would be the third quarterback. Ratler will be number two
if Carr isn't able to fill that role. Pavakamara also
returned to practice after missing two days with an illness
no injury designation there is set to join Hayner in
the starting lineup against the Commanders.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
Jake Hayner is.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
Interesting because when Derek Carr went down with injury earlier
this year.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Hayn was the guy who came on for him. But
then they started a Rattler in the next game, which,
of course we got to see Spencer Rattler the Broncos.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
I believe it was Thursday Night game against the Saints
earlier this year, the first of the two now Thursday
night games that they had this year.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
Rattler obviously really wasn't able to do much against.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
The the Broncos, but maybe maybe Hayner will be able
to do a little bit against the.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
Against the Commanders. I don't know.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
That's That's one of those things where I already felt
like Washington was probably gonna win that game, and now
you really feel like Washington probably wins that game. The
quarterbacks that are al Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito, set to
start Sunday against the Raiders. Drew Locke dresses at all.
He's expected to be the emergency third quarterback. Locke is
listed as doubtful with heel and left elbow injuries.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
Giants seventy pretty long list of injuries. Four players rolled.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
Out rakkeeiem Nuniaz, Riches, Bobby Okarerie Corner, Drew Phillips and guard.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
John Runyon all out in that game. Doubtful.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
They got a bunch of doubtful players, including offensive lineman
Austin Schlopman, the Deli Man, former former Denver Bronco. It's
a fibula listen, it's a fibula issue.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
The Devander Campbell thing, though it's still it's still fascinates me.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
Kyle Shanahan said, the team's going to figure out something.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
They're working through the semantics of what to do, but
refusing to play in the game is quote, not something
you can do to your team or teammates and still
be a part of our team. And the fort any
forty nine players are really sticking up for Devondre Campbell
there either you already mentioned Everius Ward. You know there's
a video of him from the locker room and he's
he was calling it stupid and immature.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
So, you know, I don't know what was going on here.
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
When you have other players or like your teammates explicitly
saying this guy needs to get cut, I don't know
if I've ever heard of something like that that feels
like that goes against locker room code or whatever.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
But he broke locker.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
Room code to such an extreme extent that guys like
tur Various Word are comfortable coming forward and saying no,
this guy needs to go.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
Yeah, that's I mean, I just I can't even imagine,
like what is what was going.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
Through his head? Like was he just done? Is he
hanging them up?

Speaker 3 (12:31):
It's one thing if you're going to retire like Fonte Davis,
because it's like you can say your Dante though was
playing Fante Davis is a playing in that game and
realized but in about the second quarter, like I don't
have it anymore and just was.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
Like this is where I bid you farewell. You know.
But that's the other thing.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
If you're just done, then you know you don't have
to worry about whether or not someone's going to hire
you again. Devondre Campbell, if he's not done done, I mean,
I don't know how he thought this was going to
play out for in positively Like the Lagarrett Blunt situation,
at least at that point the game is effectively over.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
It's victory formation.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
This is leaving your team hanging when they need you actually,
like the guy you're behind got injured, it's your time
to step up and you're refusing to.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
I just I don't know what team in the NFL
is going to give him another goal. The Niners had
a lead at that point, I believe didn't.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
They wasn't. Didn't they have a lead in the third quarter.
I'm a mistake.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
It might have been a six to sixth tie, but
they very well could have had a lead.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
Yeah, six three sixty sixth tie, something like that, or
I have to go back and look. But they were, Yeah,
they were definitely in those thing. They were out of
the game. I mean, at twelve six, nobody's out of
the game.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
But yeah, it was.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
Just just yeah, that situation I has me laughing. We
talked a little bit about Hayin being the starter for
the Saints. Another player that'll be back in that game
Corner more Shawn Lattimore in familiar surroundings. Canner's obviously in
New Orleans, and that's Latimore's former team. The Saints dealt
Latimore the Commanders last month. He's been out with a
hamstring injury, but he is ready to go. Says he's

(13:59):
feeling extra juice about making his return to action against
the Saints. So I'd be lying if I said I
didn't via John Kime, they traded me away going back
to show them.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
Well, I shouldn't have if I'm happy where I'm at.
But you know, extra motivation for the game.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said a lot more he's
going to start. You have an apple opportunity to show
the Saints what they are missing.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
One of the you know, the big story of the
week I think is Bill.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Belichick going to North Carolina. Belichick had the introductory press conference,
uh and he says when it comes to moving from
the NFL to college football, he'll have reduced access to players,
but there's a specific way in which college football is
a coach like Belichick more time to his job.

Speaker 2 (14:43):
Belichick said, in.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
Some respects, you had more time with the kids, not
as much meeting time, but more practice time. Certainly more
opportunities to practice the in pads and work on fundamentals
things like that.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
It's a trade off, it's a potential net gain for Belichick.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
In twenty eleven, the new Collective Bargaining Agreement greatly reduced
offseason where got padded practices. College programs have no such limitations. Ultimately,
Belichick's approach is likely to be the same when it
comes to preparing his team to play, says, I want
to be versatile and take advantage of the person that
we have. I believe in attacking a defense and defending
what an offense does well, and that takes a versatility.

(15:16):
All two teams aren't the same, and I think you
have to play them differently from week to week. Challenge
remains getting the best possible players to choose to play
for North Carolina. On that point, former Patriots safety Rodney
Harrison explained on Friday's Pro Football Talk Live his recruitment
to New England by Belichick in two thousand and three.
Ronny also said he's heard from multiple D one college
football players who want to play for Belichick.

Speaker 2 (15:37):
I just my theory was is that the kids who
are graduating high school now, though.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
It won't really affect them one way or the other.
I mean, what nine year old is going to remember
Bill Belichick went in a Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
I mean it's the last time he won one.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
You know, these kids that are graduating now we're nine,
ten years old.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
Yeah, that's the thing for me too.

Speaker 3 (15:57):
I don't know how the recruiting is going to work out,
because beyond that, you know, when you do get to
the kids that do want to be there, I struggle
to find Belichick pining over any you know, like five
star prospect or anything. I don't think he's going to
be making any promises or sweetening any deal. It's it's

(16:17):
let alone. At the end of the season, if those
guys come to him and want a betteranil deal, you know,
Bam is offering the X y Z. You know, I'm
going to go take that unless you can match it.
He's gonna go screw you. Get out of my face.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
M hmm. You don't let the door hit you on
the way out right.

Speaker 3 (16:30):
And I just don't know if you could maintain a
college programmer or build one or even.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
He says he's not even be involved in that, if
that's Michael Lombardi or whatever. But what kid, like Michael,
what is Michael Lombardy going into a living room Michaelambarty And.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
You know, like, what kid, you know what? Five four star?
Five stars? And yeah, and I think that's worse.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
Like I would rather have Belichick be involved because he's
Bill Belichick. Even if it's you know, there's some warts
there then because it's not like he's not going to
be involved. He's still going to be calling all the shots. Now,
it's just your point, Michael Lombardi and whatever other you know,
former New England goons trying to pitch these kids rather
than you know, the greatest coach in NFL history.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
Yeah, and so that's gonna be one aspect of it.
There's just a lot going on with that, and that part,
that thing fascinates you. Bell. All eyes will be on
Chapel Hills. We all watch it.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
We all see what's going on there in the same
way that we the country watches what Deon's doing here
in Colorado. You know, they said it would never work.
It's starting to work. We'll see if it can continue
to work. And then you know the Belichick thing. I'm skeptical,
but I remain interested to see whether or not it
will work. One thing that didn't or Odell Beckham Junior
and the Miami Dolphins. Beckham was waved by the Dolphins today.

(17:43):
At his press conference, he coach Mike McDaniel characterized the
move as a positive for both Beckham and Miami, saying, quote,
it's as simple as what's best for both him and
the team moving forward. We thought it was a good
time to go in that direction. McDaniel said that via
Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald, I know his expectations
when you communicate transparency, transparent leg I know where he's at.
This is best for both parties. Beckham was on the

(18:03):
field for just twenty percent of offensive snaps in games
played and finishes his time in Miami with nine catches
for fifty five yards.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Did anybody expect high productivity out of Beckham?

Speaker 3 (18:16):
I think so, you know, just because there was so
much hype about in this offseason. He got a decent
contract this time around. But I think this is hopefully
the last nail in the coffin. I think it's a
Ryan Rousseillo has a concept about the the Carmelo Anthony factor,
kind of like late stage Mellow. He was more named
than game, like his game just wasn't there, but everyone
still knew who Mellow was. I think, unfortunately we're kind

(18:38):
of at that point now with Odell Beckham.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Well, he will go through waivers.

Speaker 1 (18:43):
If somebody picks him up, they'd be picking up the
remainder of his three million base salary, which is about
five hundred thousand For the remainder of the season. If
he clears waivers and becomes a free agent, it's unclear
if he'd command anything other than the pro rated veteran
minimum of one point two one million at that point.
Playoff teams that could use help at the position include
the Steelers and Chiefs. It'd be interesting to see how

(19:04):
Odell Beckham and Russell Wilson would work out together.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
You know, yeah, you know, best of luck to you.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
But maybe he can pull off another miraculous grab like
he did against the Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
Get some George Pickens in him. There you go.

Speaker 1 (19:19):
Other teams that did need receiver include the Chargers, the
Ravens who played for who he played for, the Rams
where he's also played, the Bucks and Commanders. But it's
you know, questionable, although they're not even even play at
that level anymore. So. We've got CU Buffs men's basketball
coming up next right here on KAA as the Buffalo's
take on South Dakota State. It's the commercials first friggame

(19:43):
after that,
