Okay, Detroit Youth Choir in the building, and mister White,
we got DJ sir, and we got Okay, I'm good,
I'm good, mister White.

Something going on. I know you got some upcoming shows.
What is happening with the Detroit Youth Choir?

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Well, right now we are in production season uh here
in the city of Detroit and actually Metro Detroit. We
have a few things coming up bush We have our
tribute to the music of Beyonce is gonna be May
twenty ninth and thirtieth at the Hawk Theater. And also

(01:11):
following that in June, we are looking to do The
Color Purple, the Broadway musical. Now, this is something new
for us. We've done Broadway in the past, but the
Color Purple I mean, how legendary is that.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
I'm just gonna say this now, Okay, you know what
you're stepping into.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
And this is not the kiddie version. This is the real,
full fledged Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
I've just put it out there. You know what you're
stepping into.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
And these kids already, like we have sincere here. She's
a silly character and DJ he's playing mister. So you
got the silly and the mister right here in the studio.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Y'all up for this? Okay, you gotta be like, yes.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
I am confidence r I'm ready, but the showers back,
go ahead.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
But yeah, I'm excited. I am, to say the least.
I'm really excited. This is definitely it's opening, it's eye opening.
It's definitely a new journey, especially playing the character that
I am playing. And actually she is my silly as well,
so but it's it's really fun though. I'm excited to
continue working. I'm excited.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
Oh yeah, I'm so excited, Like I am so ready
to do this. We actually had a performance with Lashawan's
Lehans was the original Sealy and the Broadway debut of
the color color purple. Excuse me, And I'm just so excited.
To get the opportunity to be able to play a
character where I really get to act from like my
black center, and I don't have to like conform in

(02:44):
a certain way. And these are stories that need to
be told. So I'm really excited to have the opportunity
to play this character.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
I'm excited for both of you guys. This is cool,
very cool, very cool to why look at you.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Look this is these are seniors as well, Yeah, and
I always bring you seniors. Yeah, and you know, it's
just it's amazing to see their growth and where they're going.
I mean, even by doing the color purple. This is
a big part of their resume, right, and that's what

(03:17):
we are doing with these young people. We are resume builders, right,
and that's.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Good man, And especially when you get this chance to
do something that's so iconic like this. Yeah, and you know,
all eyes are gonna be on you guys, and it
definitely looks good on the resume.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
It does, and we we're gonna do it four shows.
So we got June twenty six, like a seven o'clock show.
June twenty seventh, we have a matinee two pm and
six seven thirty. I think that day and then the
last show is Sunday, June twenty eighth and six thirty

(03:56):
and it's gonna be amazing.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Man.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
You know, tickets on sale now. Actually the last day
of the early bird special is tomorrow, Okay, yep, And
that's if you go to the Hawk dot com for
Farmington Hills you can get those tickets early bird and
then the price will go to like thirty five bucks.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Bet get those tickets. Come out and support these kids,
especially these two seniors. Now where are y'all going after
you graduate?

Speaker 4 (04:27):

Yeah, I'm heading to the University of Michigan.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
Yeah, that's good. That's good.

Yes, right now, I am actually in the process of
obtaining my Associates degree in the arts, and then after
I plan to attend either Boston Conservatory, University of Michigan,
or Columbia Chicago.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Not Mad, not Mad. Very proud, very proud of you
got excellent, awesome, awesome, anything else, mister White.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Well, we have for the young people that want to
join our choir. We have a summer camp this summer free,
a free summer camp, and this through the Summer Discovery Program.
Kids grades one through ten free, five days a week
for five weeks, with the show at the end. And
guess what the show is gonna be about. Detroit all

(05:19):
day love it. Yep. So I really want people, if
you see a flyer, please scan the QR code and
join our summer program. But that's about it for us.
We have the Pistons this week. Yep.

We're doing NBA playoffs.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
NBA Playoffs. We're doing the anthem and halftime. Awesome. It's
going to be amazing and I'm proud of you guys.
