Speaker 1 (00:07):
Second hour of the morning show.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
How You Doing.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
It is program fifty five seven in case you missed it.
Last week celebrated our twenty fourth anniversary, which means we
are now in year twenty five of this radio program,
and they said it would never last. Great to be
with you this morning. He is Jose, I am Preston,
and this is the gun writer. He is Lee Williams

(00:34):
gome oning Lee, how are you, sir?

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Good sir? How are you? Congratulations on twenty five years by.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
The way, Yeah, well you know we're just starting now,
You're twenty five. Twenty fifth anniversary will be a year
from now, but I appreciate that, Thank you very much. It's,
as you well know, being a conservative voice anywhere today,
whether it's in print or on podcast or on radio
or television, is not an easy thing. No.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
The left is so so organized against any conservative voice,
and they raised their little finger. And there is a
thousand letters or phone calls that usually are from people
that have never listened to your show or read your stories.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
It's fascinating to me to look at the arc of
your career, Lee, because and just let's just take a
quick second to kind of reset for people that might
have missed the first visitor to that you and I
have had a few years ago. How did the Gun
Writer come to be? What take us through your career
that led us to where we are right now and

(01:39):
what you're doing.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
It was working as an investigative reporter at the Herald
Tribune in Sarasotaett now a Gannette paper. And I've always
been interested in guns because before I became a journalist,
I was in law enforcement for ten years. Before that,
I was in the military. I grew up in Minnesota.
I was always hunting and shooting. So I started writing
a pro gun blog for the newspaper. And then, of

(02:03):
course Gennett bought us about six years ago, and I
was the first one gone, and my editors soon followed that.
We were both both ticked off on the same day.
Thank god, Alan Gottlieb, who runs the Second Amendment Foundation,
waited until the next day. I get a call from
a friend who has another radio show, and he said, Hey,
Alan's gonna call you. Don't hang up on him. He

(02:26):
called and said, Hey, we'd like to like you to
work for us and continue, but more of a national scope.
So I started it around February twenty thirteen, and I've
been running ever since.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
It has been amazing to see the impact that your
articles have. I with you, well, I would imagine that
you know that you've you've seen some legislative wins as
a result of your work.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
We have, and it's it's always gratifying. I mean, here
in Florida, nobody was ready for the open carry and
the constitutional carry. I think that's fantastic. But you know,
we started here with Marion Hammer and concealed carry, so
it's nice that we're finally catching up the rest of

(03:15):
the country.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
You have written a couple of articles of late that
kind of juxtaposed where we are in America, though we're
still fighting for constitutional rights as it relates to the
Second Amendment in particular. But you did a wonderful job
explaining what's been happening in Iran, And if you don't mind,
I like to take a moment to talk about the
first article and then maybe do a little bit of

(03:37):
a deeper dive into the historical context of what we
have here versus Iran. But you pointed out that Iran
has some of the strictest, most repressive gun control laws
in the world, yet they were finding firearms in the
hands of citizens.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Yeah, I mean a gun in Iran, especially now, but
you know, before the current war took off, they weren't
allowed to own them. I mean, you couldn't own pistols,
you couldn't own shotguns. But now you know, they've killed
probably close to forty thousand Iranians been murdered by their
current government because they had no right to defend themselves,

(04:18):
they had no capability of defending themselves. It's just it's
absolutely crazy. I've studied Iran for quite a while once
when I was in the military. It's just it's so sad.
I mean, our Second Amendment protections have been in place
around two hundred and thirty eight years, but our politicians
now don't care. Are the anti gunner politicians? They just
don't care. They treat it with blatant disrespect. I mean,

(04:41):
look at some of these states out east. Look at
Virginia what they're doing. Look at Minnesota, my home state.
It's just it's terrible. And this two hundred and thirty
year protection of the First and Second Amendment, that's what's
kept this country free, I believe, and I think any
one of those forty thousand Iranians would have gladly given

(05:02):
their life if they're if they could arm themselves, but
they can't.

Speaker 1 (05:12):

the articles that come out and again support the work.
We try to link up with people that are like minded.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Lee.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
You you know, I had mentioned that with the best
of intentions, sometimes not with a lot of wisdom. But
we create these vacuums in places around the Middle East
and perhaps even other places. And there's a common rule
that our founders understood two hundred and fifty years ago
as they were crafting this country's constitution, and that is
that an unarmed citizenry is going to have a dictator

(05:49):
over it in one form or fashion. And that's what
we're seeing. What we've seen in Iran, the vacuum is
always filled by the guys with guns.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
One hundred percent. They're shooting people in Iran like it's
cool to make a political point. And I you know,
as an American, I know that everybody in their mind
and everybody and their brothers just tore up about this.
They're going around the streets and gunning down unarmed Iranians
to make a political point. I've never seen anything like it.

(06:20):
It's uh, it's it's mind blowing. Well, which of these
people don't have the ability to shoot back?

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Yeah, that's the thing, and now I have Look, I
want to I want to take advantage of your background
in military and law enforcement. I don't see any way
for this to have a resolution that is going to
be lasting without some form, whether it's Americans, a coalition,
Israeli's boots on the ground, creating space and handing out weaponry.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
You know, they need the Kurds to come in. The
Curds are pretty well armed. But yeah, I mean your
average Iranian going out and trying to take a gun
from a Radian security officer, he's going to get killed. Sure,
there might be one or two that are successful, but
one or two guys does not do anything in this
war against the Iranian regime. So I think we need

(07:11):
we need firearms, we need to train them. I don't
think we need full blown military units there yet. Who knows.
I believe Trump when he says that they are talking,
they're talking about surrendering. It's just a matter of when
and how. I hope that is the case. It would
love to keep us in air war. We don't need
more boots on the ground in than the least I see,
especially in a country like Iran.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Yeah, I one hundred percent agree. I don't want it
to happen, But I'm just trying to think logically. How
do you get such a complete turnover where that military
lays down its arms and they assemble a new military
and you begin to give people a chance at having
freedom in that country.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
Well, you're going to have to force the current regime
to see how badly things are. But these are not
reasonable people. They don't care that they're friends and neighbors
are getting killed by American bombs. They don't care at all.
All they want to to do is hang on to power.
So I mean, they'd sacrifice everybody in the country if

(08:11):
it kept them in power that bad. These guys need
to be taken out.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
And that to me is the lasting lesson for America
as we look at the UK. I look at the
UK right now as they are on their way to
becoming Iran. They've allowed Islam much to come into the country,
They've disarmed their citizenry, and they are ripe for takeover.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
One hundred percent correct. I've never seen anything like it.
I have relatives in Germany. They complain all the time
about parts of their major cities where they can no
longer go because it's not safe for Germans to go
down into their major cities England. I would write it off.
I mean, it's it's.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
Gone back with Lee williamsthgunwriter dot substack dot com is
where you'll find his work and the latest story Lee
touches on. Somebody that has been a friend of this
program and to a lot of gun owners, not just
in Florida, but around the country. Marian Hammer.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
Yeah, I'd say she's been a friend to Florida gun owners,
especially Florida gun owners. Well, she filed a lawsuit. She
no longer works for NRA. She filed a lawsuit against
him last year, alleging they misappropriated her name, image of likeness,
and took a check. But NRA kicked out a kind

(09:36):
of an email story yesterday. They accuse her of using
profanity and being somewhat combative during a hearing. Evidently, she
told the NRA's attorney that he thinks he's got and
that he might be. She believes he's a bad word.
It's sad. Really. They said she threw water from her

(09:58):
glass at the NRA's attorney, which she denied to me.
I called her up and she denied it. Said he
and I claimed she tried to knock over his coffee.
She didn't recall that incident. They said they walked out
of this hearing because of her misconduct. She told me
she never threw water at anybody. She said, and I quote,

(10:19):
they worked me to death and didn't pay me. They
promised to pay me and didn't, so I'm suing for payment.
I have two lawsuits, one in Florida and one in Virginia.
They canceled my non cancellable contract I made seven years old.
About the attorney, who were not going to name. She said,
he's an attorney. You can't make a living, so he
stayed with the NRA all these years. He hates me
and he pushed it. I'm not doing well physically, so

(10:40):
they hope I will die soon and they won't have
to pay me. It's just a no win for anybody involved. Man.
I mean, remember she started Eddie Eagle nationwide gun safety
program for young kids. And if you carry a gun
in your in your pants. She's the reason why she
started Florida's concealed carry licensing and initiative, and she's just

(11:01):
been a tremendous friend to gun owners, especially those of
us here in Florida.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
Lee, let me just look at one specific part of
this that you mentioned in the story. They want the
court to dismiss the lawsuit because they thought she was mean.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
Yeah, that's a great way to put it. That is
that I should have led with that in the story.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
I mean, I'm just like.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Words, she used bad words.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
Man, doesn't that in a way? And again, I don't
know the specifics. I know Marian and I know she's
combative and she's not going to take crap from anybody.
I know that, and you do too. But the fact
of the matter is, doesn't this lend a little credibility
to her claim that they're just trying to outliver?

Speaker 2 (11:48):
Yeah? I she did not. She had. Let me say this,
She has sounded better when I've spoken to her in
the past than she did yesterday. But the mind still there,
and there is no better Second Amendment related mind than hers.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
Well, let me just ask you, as a point of fact,
is the NRA hurting for cash. I mean, is there
some reason why they might not honor an agreement.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
They're always hurting for cash. It's just a matter of
when and how much. And they always they've always claimed
that they need more money. It's part of being the NRA.
I guess I don't know. I don't know how much
he's asking for, quite frankly, but if they want this
to go away, they should pay her and move on.
My humble opinion, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:35):
If nothing else, call it a debt of gratitude and
call it a day. All right, let's just quickly update
everybody snapshot. Who is Patrick Tate a Domiak and what's
going on?

Speaker 2 (12:45):
Well? Tate is a former Navy E six and I
got to tell you he's been charged with a whole
bunch of felonies. He's serving a twenty year sentence in
a federal print in New Jersey. He's completely innocent. I
spoke to he was picked up by the ATF. They
raided his home. They didn't find anything illegal, so they

(13:08):
made everything illegal. This was under Biden and under Biden's
ATF guy. They actually they lied about everything that they
found there. They said a toy machine gun was a
real machine gun. They said some automatic pistols were machine guns.
I mean, I'm surprised they didn't call him a machine gun.
So we're looking right now at trying to spur the

(13:31):
ATF into taking a good look, a new look, a
technical review of the evidence that was seized during there's
the former ATF search warrant. I mean, take anything that
they found there and prove to me that it's actually illegal.
You can't do it because Tate wasn't stupid. He didn't
have machine guns. He had a lot of parts and pieces,

(13:55):
And I think they really need to look at their
technical expert in this because I think he might have
lied under oath about the evidence he examined. I would
also like them to send a letter to the DOJ
regarding the prosecution, which outlines ATF concerned. And I spoke
to their head, guy Robert Cicada. He's the new head
of ATF. Although he hasn't had his comfort he's had

(14:17):
his confirmation, he hasn't been sworn in yet. He seems
a held a lot better than anything else anyone else
that's run that organization under a democrat.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
Is this case on his radar since you talked to him, Yes, Yes,
all right, we'll have to wait and see Lee.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
Thanks.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
As always, we'll get an update. Hopefully we'll talk to
you again next month. Thank you, sir, my pleasure to
take care, all right, Lee williamsthegunwriter dot substack dot com,
twenty seven past the hour
