Speaker 1 (00:04):
There we go Tuesday on the radio program affectionately known
as Common Sense Amplified. How are you, ruminators? Appreciate you
joining us wherever? And however, it's the Morning Show with
Preston Scott Show fifty five fifty four. We're still counting them.
That's Jose. I'm Preston and this is us Congressman Kat
came at Kat, how are you?
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Good morning? We're doing all right? Getting ready to head
back to crazy Washington, DC.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Yeah, let's talk about that first, your reaction to the
events of the weekend.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
This is not a black and white situation. I think
that that's the first thing that needs to be established that.
I know that there's people who have a lot of
very strong opinions, but the reality is is that we're
living in a very complex world. I do have extreme
reservations about the lack of consultation with Congress. I understand
(01:07):
the administration's position that Congress leaks, and that is one
hundred percent true. There are people who are more interested
in furthering their profile than maintaining national security, and that
is unfortunately the reality of what Congress.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Is like today.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
That said, that doesn't give a green light to abdicate
our role in our authority to declare war. And so
while the President has authority for the next sixty days
to take military action to defend against direct and immediate
and eminent threats to the United States, I do worry
significantly about the potential for long a long term conflict
(01:49):
in the region. So something that actually today we will
be in a skiff chatting with Secretary of Rubio and
the CIA and other parts of our government to really
get to the bottom of what the what next steps are.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
We'll say, yeah, we've been talking about that. It is
clear that for right this moment, Iran has chosen to
continue the path the leadership of Iran of radical clerics
running the country. We know about Islamic extremism. We'll get
to unpacking that in future months. I think it's impacting
(02:29):
our country and I think it's a great danger to
our country. But having said that, Kat, what do you
anticipate the America the United States can do to assist
the Iranian people in giving them their best chance at
establishing a legitimate, duly elected government.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
You know, I actually think that the President said it best.
You know, he said, this is this is your once
in a generation, maybe once in a multi generation opportunity
to take their country back. Right. He's saying this to
the Iranian people. I personally and the folks that I represent,
have no interest in nation building. We are not going
(03:11):
to be engaged in that type of activity in Iran.
But I do think that the elements within Iran exist
to re establish a nation that works for them, and
they have seen brutality on a scale that most people
cannot imagine. We all know that the Ayatola crushed just
(03:35):
here recently over thirty thousand, killed thirty thousand of their
own people who were protesting, and so we know that
they've seen and really understand the brutality of that type
of regime and religious extremism. And I think the Iranian
people will reject that. But that comes with the caveat
that we, the United States and the American taxpayers should
(03:59):
not and not be engaged in nation building around the globe.
That is something that I believe many people, Republican and Democrat,
we all kind of share this, these very hard lessons learned,
and you know, that's something that I want to be
super cognizant of. That said, when you look at the
(04:20):
larger geopolitical map. We are seeing how China is going
to be directly impacted by this, which I think is
hugely important to include in this discussion. This isn't just
a singular you know, I ran as the only one
who is taking a hit here. Now China is too,
because China has been getting immense amounts of oil at
(04:44):
a very steep discount of sanctioned oil. And I think
that this is a longer play in curbing China's threat
to not just the United States, but also to the
to the world. So lots of elements here. Like I said,
there's there is no black and white in a situation.
There are varying shades of gray. Dare I say fifty
(05:05):
shades of gray?
Speaker 1 (05:07):
US Congress went cat camick with us this morning for
a few more minutes. What's going on with the Save
Act in the Senate? What are you hearing from your
colleagues over there?
Speaker 2 (05:17):
Oh? God, bless America. Oh you know, there's a saying
that we have in Washington. The Democrats may be the opposition,
but the Senate is the enemy. And that is so
true at surface value. I would say people feel that
the Senate leadership will do anything they can to avoid
(05:38):
bringing this bill to the floor. And I would have
to say that that surface value take is pretty much
what is the truth. I myself have spoken to Leader
Soon and encouraged him to bring this to the floor,
to do the talking filibusters. Yes, it is absolutely ridiculous
(06:00):
that we are even talking about the fact that you
should have to be in the chamber. If you are
objecting to a bill, you should at least have to
show up. And that's really what the zombie filibuster is.
It's that sixty vote threshold that you have to break
in order to advance the bill to a final vote.
And in the zombie filibuster, you don't even have to
(06:21):
be present in the chamber to object. You just have
to make it known that you're not going to vote,
and that's it. At least with the talking filibuster, you
got to show up and you've got to stand your ground.
You got to make your case, and guess what if
you do, great if you don't, then let the bill
move forward, because all they're doing is holding up the
American people's wishes. And it is bizarre to me, absolutely
(06:44):
bizarro Land that the case that the left has staked
on is that this bill is going to disenfranchise women
because in their words, and these are not katcam x words,
these are the left's words, right, this is the Democrats.
They say women are too stupid to figure out if
they get married how to change their name and register
(07:09):
to vote. That is their words. I have never seen
a winning strategy in which you call someone stupid and
expect them to support you. And I, as a woman,
I can say that I am sick and tired of
them treating us like idiots every single time we turn around.
They want to make every issue about one thing, abortion
(07:31):
and then they want to insult us on every other issue.
And I just cannot wrap my head around how they
think that is okay for you to show id to
buy alcohol, cigarettes, to rent a car, to fly on
a plane, to rent an apartment, to buy a house.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
To tickets will call in your.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Life, Yeah, exactly, picking up tickets that a will call.
But when it comes to voting, that's just a bridge
too far. My goodness, kat I'm.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Gonna get to the obvious to me, and because I
have been saying from the get go just what you said.
But also, the American public is one hundred percent okay,
eighty three percent on board with voter ID eighty three percent.
Just make the Democrats talk, do the talking filibuster, because
(08:23):
the ones running for reelection are then going to have
to own it on the campaign trail and then just
pass the thing because Federman changes the math. So in
my mind, there's a reason why Thune won't do this,
and there's something going on that that Republicans need to
press and make him uncomfortable.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Yeah, I really do think, and soon himself. He is
a co sponsor of the Save America Act. That's a
front and he and he I honestly, I do think
he believes that. I think he is trying to keep
his coalition together. And that's where you know Senator McConnell,
(09:03):
who is the chair of the Rules Committee, is being
an obstructionist in this space. That's something that needs to
be called out. And again, I think if you were
to institute the talking philibuster, which doesn't require anything other
than to say we're not going to use a zombie filibuster,
We're just doing the talking philibuster, they have the rules
on the books that right there would be a game changer,
(09:26):
not just on the same of America Act, on so
many other bills because we in the House, we pass
bills all day long, and they just sit on the
doorstep of the Senate collecting dust.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
YEP, the US Senate is very much like the Florida Senate.
That's where good bills go to die. All Right, We've
talked about our utter contempt for what's going on in
the Senate and the unwillingness to bring the Save Act.
But I just kat, I have to ask you about
(09:56):
the selfie that went viral.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
Oh yes, I mean, first of all, before we talk
about the selfie, I have to applaud I had so
many people that were and you got to understand, Okay,
you're not necessarily our congressional representative, but you're ours.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
Okay, you're a friend of everybody on this program. The
number of people that were glowing at your decision to
sit on the Democrat side and to stand and clap,
let's just say it was brilliant and people in this
audience loved it. Tell us what went into that choice.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
I would say it was not super premeditated in the
sense that we had like a day's long strategy going
into this. No, we actually I got to DC, I
ran and changed and started my day and about an
hour before the State of the Union, I looked at
(11:08):
my team and I just had this gut feeling. I said, guys,
I think I want to sit on the Democrat side.
And they hated the idea, absolutely hated it. They were like,
do not do that, ma'am, Please do not sit on
that side.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
But what was them what was their argument?
Speaker 2 (11:25):
They they thought that it would be misconstrued. They thought
that folks would take it as you know, I'm siding
with the Democrats or whatever. And I and to which
I said, you know, list in America has has no
sides per se. You know, you're either for America or
you're not, you know, and everyone knows that I'm going
to stand. I'm going to clap for all the things
that you know, the President was saying. And I said,
(11:49):
and plus, I know what the Democrats are going to do.
They're going to sit on their hands and we're going
to hear some pretty incredible things. And maybe I can
just lead by example and show them how to stand
because clearly they've forgotten. Now when my team was like, oh, no,
you can't do that.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
But weren't their seats available? I mean, some Democrats didn't go, right.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
We had seventy Democrats that didn't go. And so originally
when I got to the chamber, and let me tell
you this is this is high stake stuff. For about
eight hours prior because we had been voting in the
chamber throughout the day, members were taking and duct taping
down their business cards to like mark their territory, and
everyone was, you know, positioning for great you know, all
(12:35):
these seats and all these areas. They wanted to shake
the President's hand and do all this. And I'm like,
you know, I'm just I've never been that type. Like
I just I don't fangirl. Yeah, and that's not me.
And so I said, you know, I think I can.
I think I could do something a little bit more
my my style, which is, you know, kind of rib
(12:55):
the left a little bit. And so I originally sat
down next to Nancy Pelosi and she did not appreciate that.
But it was funny because I was chatting with her
and she did not appreciate the roast that I had
done on her a few weeks prior, and she remembered
(13:17):
that and we were chatting and she said, well, you know,
there's some seats down on the front available and she
pointed out Chuck Schumer, and I said, you know what,
You're right because, as I said earlier, the opposition is
the Democrats in the House, but our true enemy is
the Senate. So I made my way down to the
front and I sat behind the Supreme Court, right next
(13:39):
to Chuck Schumer. And it was great because he is
the perhaps most miserable human being in the Senate. And
talk about an American. When they were pinning, when they
were putting the Medal of Honor on the helicopter pilot
from the Venezuela operation, and you know, the chamber is erupting.
He turns and says, oh, good grief. And so to
(14:03):
be able to hear that his real true disdain not
just for the President, but for all the things that
America stands for, it really was shocking. But it was
good for me to hear that because it really just
kind of lit the fire under me that I'm going
to do everything I possibly can to make life for
(14:24):
him miserable, absolutely miserable.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
Well, you know what's interesting is Chuck Schumer used to
stand for a lot of those things that he now
stands against, and we have the receipts, we have the tape,
we have the speeches on the Senate floor when he
used to oppose illegal immigration, when he used to stand
for things that he now hates and rejects. So good
on you. Kat. I just want to let you know
(14:47):
that the people in this audience were proud. And here's
the thing, not only proud of you, but proud of
the fact that you come on this show. You're a
friend of this program and we appreciate that very much.
And you got a lot of people praying for you
and pulling for you.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
So Hank Tough, I appreciate it. We're going to keep
up the good fight Farmville. This week, big consequences for Florida,
and we're going to fight.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
The good fight.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
So appreciate y'all.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
God blessed. Take care.
