Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, if you love our law enforcement and our first
responders and you also love Polaris's, well, you have a
chance to win one from the one hundred Club. Find
out the details. Leslie is my guest. She landed her
dream job at the one hundred Club and she's my
guest on the Dana Tyson podcast. All right, Leslie, who
is the brains behind the one hundred Club? I mean,
(00:20):
I hate to do that, but actually, Leslie, you call
Leslie if you've ever got a question with the one
hundred Club. Leslie is the lady with all the answers,
and I just wanted to chat with you about the
one hundred Club. You brought up something that is really
cool that they do that could be really cool for
a winner. But let's first talk about how you became
involved with the one hundred Club. Houston.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Yeah, okay, so I'm from Galveston County, but I was
living in Illinois, married my husband there and we were
just ready to move back to be closer to my family.
And I got hired at the YMCA of Houston and
I had one day and then COVID nineteen shut everything down.
(01:03):
So I was at a few different YMCA's doing Essential
Care for emergency personnel, and then I was laid off,
you know, last one in, first one to go, and
I just immediately started looking for other employment here in Houston.
I just moved my entire family here and I found
(01:24):
the one hundred Club and just read through the website
and was like, yes, high mission is high reward all
the time. I applied and I was hired. I started
a month later, and I couldn't believe it. We had
been through so much through that first summer with COVID,
(01:44):
and then the next thing I know, I found my
forever employment and it has been so rewarding, so amazing.
The people who work there are great, the members are great,
the board is great, and I couldn't be more thankful.
It just really was a god move for us to
get here, and then for me to be employed with
the one Hunter.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Oh, I love to hear that story.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Well, William is an angel.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
He really is the CEO. He's the greatest guy. And
then the members and then the board and what are
you learning? Because I know you get to talk with
the members a lot. What are you what's the kind
of the vibe that you're getting from people who we're
you know, put that decal on the back of their cars,
so proudly supporting our law enforcement and first responders.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
I think you nailed it. I mean, they really are proud,
They are thankful. They know that we are a organization
full of integrity and what we say we're going to do,
we're going to do. We provide very real, tangible help
to people in their worst times, and we're in a
(02:50):
really special position to be able to do that. And
it's it's really cool talking to the members. I mean,
even the ones who just call to make a five
donation wish they could do more. They really believe in
the organization. They're proud to have those stickers on their car.
They know that it means so much more than just
the sticker. It's so much more than just supporting law enforcement.
(03:13):
It's supporting the dependents who lose their loved one in
the line of duty. And they really get that, they
grasp that, they love that, they understand the gravity of
what that means. And it's really great getting to talk
to them every day and just hear how much they
love the one hundred club.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
It truly is. Now you've got different levels, Yeah, I
learned about the new levels because usually, you know, you
see all these hundred club decals different colors, and I'm
a life member, so mine is more of a goldish,
but I'm also a board member, so it's even more cool. Yeah,
you've got some new levels. Now, tell us about these listens.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
Yeah, So, for the first time in like sixty years
or something, we launched two new levels. The original ones
are the annual member for one hundred dollars, which is
how the one hundred clubs started. Those are the people
who have the multi colors of decal stacked on their car.
And then there's the Lifetime Member, which is the singular
gold decal. And then now we have a Diamond Life
(04:13):
Member and a Platinum Life Member. The Diamond Life Member
and Platinum Life are a little bit larger of a decal,
kind of similar to the Director one, and they're a
little more expensive, but you do get a little bit
more with that, so you get the more impactful decal,
and then you get a forty eight core customized YETI
(04:33):
cooler with either. With the Diamond one you get two
customized tumblers, with the Platinum you get four, and then
with the Diamond one you get two tickets to our
Heroes banquet, which we've never offered before, and it's so
exciting and impactful. And then with the Platinum you get
four tickets to the banquet. You also can get a
(04:55):
customized Sig Hour pistol with the Platinum membership, but you
have to have your background check cleared in order to
do that.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
That's incredible. I love that. I love that options. Now,
something that you had mentioned to me by and you
sent the most adorable picture of your daughter, who is gorgeous.
I can't believe she's like walking around. She is she
walking down?
Speaker 2 (05:16):
She wants to. She wants to walk really badly, so
we're encouraging it. But also crawling is so important in
the first year, so I'm happy that she's just she's
mobile for sure, however she wants to get around. Yeah,
that's so good.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Well, in addition to that picture, you also mentioned that
the raffle is going on and this is a big
deal that I wanted to let our viewers in on.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
It's a huge deal. Every year we do a raffle
for a UTV Polaris Ranger Crew, but this year, the
man Janardan Takar, he donated three prizes for the first
time that we've been doing this. We have three prizes now,
so we have the Polaris Crew it's a twenty twenty
(06:02):
five valued at about twenty three thousand. He donated a
Evolution D three Maverick it's an electric golf cart and
that's valued at about ten thousand. And then we are
also going to do a third place prize for a
Diamond Life membership, which is valued at five thousand. So
(06:22):
it's really allaying. We've doubled our ticket numbers that we're
selling this year to give more people an opportunity to win,
but we do have three prizes, so we're really excited
about it all.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Right now, how can we buy our tickets? What do
we have to do? And when is the drawing?
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Yes, so the drawing is Halloween, October thirty first, at
twelve pm, and we'll do that on Facebook Live. So
everyone who signs up to buy a ticket will get
an email from me that day saying hey, join us
on Facebook. We're going live for us to choose the winners.
And the way you buy a ticket is used to
visit our website, the one hundred club dot org. A
(07:00):
pop up will come up and we'll direct you to
that page, or you can call the one hundred Club
at seven point three nine five to two zero one
zero zero.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
All right, Now, this money, I know you've got different,
You've got the Survivor's Fund. This money just is going
to support the one hundred Club.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Yeah, so it's going to our general contribution. And because
of the Jennardan Takar Foundation, we are able to apply
one hundred percent of the proceeds straight into the mission
of the one hundred Club, whether that be supporting the
dependence of firefighters and police officers who are killed in
the line of duty, buying protective equipment for local law
(07:38):
enforcement agencies, supporting those law enforcement officers who want to
pursue higher education, and just replacing a K nine. We
do all kinds of stuff that I don't think people
realize we get to do. So that is one hundred
percent to support the mission of the one hundred CLO.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
That is amazing. And you do help out the kids
in what a parent has died in the line of duty. Education,
the canine you mentioned, We even had a canine represented
I think maybe two years in a row at the banquet,
the Heroes banquet, and just incredible things you do. How
much are these Raffle tickets.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
There are one hundred dollars each, so they're the same
as an annual membership. They're only one hundred dollars. We
are at seven hundred and ninety and we have until
October thirty first to go, so we're really hoping to
sell out. We've sold out every year, but we did
double our ticket numbers to sell this year. So we
(08:34):
want more people getting behind the mission and having that
chance to win something.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Really really cool that is incredible. Well, we're always supporting
our law enforcement, our first responders, and if you value
them like we do, you can definitely get involved. Get
some Raffle tickets, yes, and definitely get that decal. Every
time I see that decal, Leslie, you know, I pulled
my money. I remember one. Yeah, I got the one
hundred dollar one and then I thought, you know what,
(09:00):
go for the lifetime. And it was just like my
proudest moment when I did that, because it's a thousand dollars.
But you just you know, and you can call up
Leslie and say my decal's really old? Can you give
me a fresh new one?
Speaker 2 (09:13):
Sure? Can't.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
Yeah, I love that. Well, I'm glad that we got
you on so we could share this incredible raffle opportunity,
because that Polaris is super sweet.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
They're so cool. We have the Polaris ranger in the
golf car in our building, so we get to look
at them every day and we're just like, who's gonna
win that?
Speaker 1 (09:32):
Yep, who's gonna win it? Yeah, that's excellent. And I
like that you've done it on Halloween, so that's a
day we can remember.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Yep, yep. That's all to make sure it's a day
that no one forgets exactly exactly.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
Well, Leslie, I'm glad that you found your forever home
working at the one hundred Club. It's a great organization.
You're the perfect fit for that and the one hundred
Club dot org. If you'd like to get your decal
and get a raffle ticket, and thank you so much.
I'm I mean, I just want to mention and I
don't know if you ever had the honor of doing this.
When an officer or a first responder dies in the
(10:06):
line of duty, the first thing the one hundred Club
does is a needs assessment, going to their home at
the appropriate time and saying, how can we help in
addition to bringing that check that will at least get
them through tough times, you know, as they're trying to
deal with this loss.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Yeah, it's not easy. I have not gone to a
member a person's home who's experienced that, but I have
met some survivors who have come to the office, and
our executive director and board members that partner with him
in that are first class. They know exactly what to do,
how to approach it, and they make it as comfortable
(10:49):
for that survivor as they can. And so it's really
really rewarding to be able to be the one who
enters in all of the nations and see the impact
of our members and donors in real time as the
donations are coming in for those families, and it's something
that I cherish and I never want to see another
(11:12):
survivor fun hit our desk, right, we never want that.
But when they do, our members never fail. They always
show up and always just go above and beyond their
membership dues for those survivors, And it's really really cool
and I'm just I'm blessed every time that I see
that happen.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
The Hero's banquet is pretty impactful too, I mean if
you want to be uplifted, you go to that. You
hear the stories of what these first responders. I mean,
it's like a movie. It's exciting than a movie. And
I'll never forget Mattress. Mac has spoken several times. I mean,
the profound impact on Mac as well, that's why he
feels so powerfully moved to come and speak and say
(11:55):
thank you to all of our first responders.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
Yeah, it's so cool that we have that chance to
honor the bravest people in our area, right and just.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
And suit with them and eat with them and their families.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
Yeah, it's crazy to think that like this person stopped
or like saved a threat from an entire Like we
had that police officer who stopped the potential mass shooting
at the Galleria a few years ago, who had received
a medal of honor from the President. You know, these
(12:33):
there are very real heroes in the greater Houston area
and we get the chance to meet them every year
at our banquet and just be reminded this. You know,
these people really do lay it all on the line,
and these guys survived to tell the tale. And it's cool.
It's really cool to be able to meet them.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
It's not a TV show, it's not one of those TVs.
It's it's real life.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
And they exist in our area.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Leslie. Great to see you and great for you to
bring this information to our viewers. And again it's the
one hundred club dot org and fingers crossed we win.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
Yeah, good luck everybody. Thank you very much, Dana.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
We'll talk to you soon.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
Okay, sounds good.
