Speaker 1 (00:01):
Deeper in the din with dangerous day. Older adults who
tend to see the bright side of life may be
giving their brains a boost to A study led by
Harvard followed more than nine thousand Americans aged seventy and older,
and they found that people with higher levels of optimism
were fifteen percent less likely to develop dementia. The trends

(00:22):
held true regardless of race, health condition, even depression levels.
People are starting to realize that optimism isn't just personality
trade you're born with. It can be strengthened through mental
exercise and therapy. Even people with a more positive outlook
could be protecting your brain health. The study doesn't prove
optimism prevents dementia, helping show how our mindset can influence

(00:45):
how we age. So be hopeful in life. If you're
in a good mood, your brain is too you know,
I shouldn't let my mind wanterer. My brain's too small
to be out on its own deeper in the tea.
You probably heard parents complain about their kids mooching off
them well into adulthood. But we imagine those kids to
be in their twenties, not their fifties. Right. A new
survey asked adults of different ages if they were totally

(01:08):
self sufficient or if they were still financially dependent on
their parents. Seventy two percent of gen Zers twenty ninety
younger said they are still dependent on their parents, which
is a little bit higher than I expected, but really
not that shocking. Fifty three percent of millennials, though, said
they're still dependent on their parents, which is surprising. But
get this, thirty three percent or a third of Gen xers,

(01:28):
which are forty five to sixty one year olds, admit
they still depend on their parents to some degree. They
have gray hair, but they still kind of need mom
and dad to pick up the tab for brunch. That said,
mom and dad probably can swing it. According to the
data from last year, Boomers, those born between nineteen forty
six and nineteen sixty four, holds fifty one percent of
American wealth. It includes a mountain of real estate, stocks,

(01:49):
pension plans, private businesses, and other assets collectively valued at
ninety trillion dollars. But you probably heard of the Great
Wealth Transfer, supposed to exchange one hundred and twenty four
trillion and from older to younger generations. That's expected to
happen by twenty forty eight. The thing is, older folks
are living longer, pushing back inheritance timelines. They're also shelling

(02:09):
out a lot more on assisted living, nursing homes, and
other forms of long term care. So if that money
trickles down, it may take longer or may end up
being less than you anticipated than their wealth. Right now, Hey,
I'm gonna spend mine before I'm gone. So if you're
waiting for something, kids, you're gonna have to wait a
long time. Tune in again for another episode of Deeper
in the Den with Dangerous Dave right here.
